Giant Bombcast XX
[0] It is Tuesday, December the 7th, 2010, and you're listening to The Giant Bombcast.
[1] I'm your host, Ryan Davis.
[2] Joined by Vinny Caravella.
[3] Hi.
[4] Jeff Gerstman.
[5] A date that will live in infamy.
[6] And Brad Shoemaker.
[7] Hello.
[8] Gentlemen.
[9] How's it going?
[10] Jeff, how's your shirt?
[11] Picking at your shirt.
[12] What's this?
[13] Fuzz on it from this sweatshirt.
[14] Pills.
[15] It's covered in pills.
[16] It's covered in pills.
[17] I've got to eat the pills.
[18] What are you talking about now?
[19] It's fuzzy.
[20] Oh, okay.
[21] I thought maybe you were experiencing pilling on your shirt.
[22] No, no pilling.
[23] Oh, is that what that's called?
[24] Yeah, when you get that little...
[25] And you take a match to it and it goes whoosh.
[26] Or what?
[27] You lost me. The little balls that show up on sweaters or whatever.
[28] They're stuck on them, right?
[29] You never took a lighter or a match to somebody that was real pilled up and it just erupts into flame?
[30] I have taken a lighter or a match to myself when I've been pilled up and yeah.
[31] I don't feel anything.
[32] Yeah.
[33] It's great.
[34] It's like...
[35] It's like you can tell it's burning, but you just don't care.
[36] Yeah, just pour gasoline on me. That's a fun Martha Stewart -y tip from...
[37] For the holidays.
[38] For the holidays.
[39] When your uncle comes in in his sweater and there's pills on it.
[40] For all you hipsters with your ironic, ugly Christmas sweaters.
[41] Just light it up.
[42] Holiday to remember.
[43] Light it up.
[44] And then also you can use fire to get rid of the pills.
[45] It is true.
[46] Really?
[47] Nobody here?
[48] No?
[49] I don't wear sweaters.
[50] I haven't heard it.
[51] No, it sounds totally like I like it as a tip.
[52] I had never heard it.
[53] Just as Brad had never heard it.
[54] Don't actually try that at home.
[55] YouTube it or something.
[56] I'm sure there's something out there.
[57] Turn safe search off.
[58] Always turn safe search off.
[59] Anyhow you do.
[60] We're doing all right.
[61] Good weekend.
[62] How was your weekend?
[63] It's all right.
[64] I played Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.
[65] Wait, what did you do that wasn't video games this weekend?
[66] Have you been keeping up with your Rosetta Stone?
[67] I did not engage in the Rosetta Stone this weekend.
[68] You know, we've now been invited to another language software demo summit.
[69] The people behind Dragon Naturally Speaking wrote to me this morning.
[70] Those people are still around?
[71] Yeah, apparently.
[72] Holy crap, they've been around for like 15 years, but they're not...
[73] For learning a language, that's for like...
[74] Wait, is it recognition?
[75] Yeah, yeah.
[76] Dude, I had to...
[77] No, it's recognition.
[78] I don't think it's foreign language.
[79] No, but there's no like text speech, no speech synthesis.
[80] Oh, it may have stuff like that.
[81] Maybe, but the shit, man, that's been around since like Dr. Sveto.
[82] Oh, Dr. Sveto.
[83] That's not actually that old, but I totally remember having a copy of that somehow.
[84] Somehow.
[85] And then being like, I found a copy this one time.
[86] Found it in the woods.
[87] And then like, I can't get this to Unrar properly.
[88] Like, oh, this one's passworded.
[89] Fuck.
[90] Only the 14th one too.
[91] Motherfucker.
[92] 52.
[93] Damn near killed him.
[94] And then it totally, if it wasn't for that horse, who knows.
[95] And then it totally never worked properly.
[96] So maybe we should go check in on Dragon, naturally speaking.
[97] See if they've gotten their act together in the last.
[98] I feel like decade and a half.
[99] Well, when we start our linguistic wiki database site, then maybe we can devote a little more resources to this sort of stuff.
[100] I don't know how we're supposed to start our Game of the Year deliberations without the dragon, naturally speaking.
[101] I don't feel comfortable.
[102] The most recent edition of that.
[103] Yeah, so no. My Rosetta did not.
[104] Due diligence, gentlemen.
[105] But in substitution, I played some more Assassin's Creed in Italian.
[106] So you haven't continued to play in Italian?
[107] Yep.
[108] I also went to the house of Prime Rib.
[109] To the Hoppa!
[110] Yeah.
[111] No, the hopper.
[112] The hopper.
[113] Man. I love that place because you go in and then you get the menu.
[114] It's like you're going to get the fucking prime rib, right?
[115] Well, that's all that's on there.
[116] So it's like what size do you want?
[117] That's pretty much it.
[118] All of it.
[119] Yeah.
[120] And so that's what I said.
[121] I said, give me the king cut.
[122] And then I got it.
[123] And Jesse said, why do you do this to yourself?
[124] And I said, I don't know why.
[125] It's insane.
[126] How much of it is fat?
[127] So I've stopped.
[128] Prime rib is typically what I order anywhere at the time I go to any kind of steak thing anywhere.
[129] And I'm trying to move away from it because you always end up with a pile of fat.
[130] A huge pile of fat.
[131] You're just like, man, I'm paying so much for this pile of fat.
[132] Why don't I just get a pile of fat?
[133] A better cut of meat.
[134] Yeah.
[135] I don't know.
[136] I like the fat.
[137] I do like prime rib.
[138] I don't really eat the fat.
[139] It's delicious.
[140] You end up with a little bit of fat when you're cutting it and stuff, but I don't.
[141] So some cream spinach and mashed potatoes.
[142] It's why I always end up ordering, like, just whatever the crazy leanest.
[143] Like, I always just get a filet mignon because, like, I don't fucking hate that pile of fat.
[144] I eat the whole thing, and it was expensive, but it was amazing.
[145] It's like this weird little plug of meat that's perfect.
[146] And you don't have to cut around anything.
[147] Cut around?
[148] What do you – yeah, cut the meat off and then throw that to the dog.
[149] All that gristle, man, that's a choking hazard.
[150] Hey, we went out and got steaks on Friday night with Adam.
[151] No, we didn't.
[152] After the show.
[153] What?
[154] No, he didn't.
[155] No one got steaks.
[156] Well, I got a prime rib.
[157] That's a steak.
[158] Oh, I guess you did get it.
[159] He got the French dip.
[160] I got a chop, man. I got a pork chop.
[161] Nice.
[162] Delicious pork.
[163] Nice, thick pork chop.
[164] God damn.
[165] That was a good -ass pork chop.
[166] It was a great prime rib, but at the end of it, I was left with all this stuff on the plate.
[167] I was like, oh, man. Yeah, that's right.
[168] Yeah, I forgot.
[169] You totally had the leftover pile.
[170] That was good.
[171] I enjoyed that.
[172] That was a nice meal.
[173] So I'm stuffed still.
[174] You're still feeling your house prime rib.
[175] I've only been once and it was pretty good.
[176] It was pretty good.
[177] It's expensive.
[178] But it's also – I don't know.
[179] It's not far from the Ruths in town.
[180] I know.
[181] Ruth's Chris.
[182] And I kind of like the Ruths better.
[183] I don't like Ruths because I feel like it's a little more chain -y.
[184] It absolutely is.
[185] And so like while I'm here, I might as well – Oh, sure.
[186] The house prime rib is a unique thing and absolutely I think you have to go.
[187] But I think I just – You prefer.
[188] I still haven't had a better chop, though, than when we went to the Presidio Social Club that early.
[189] I don't even know where you guys were.
[190] No, you guys weren't even.
[191] You guys weren't even employed here yet.
[192] Oh, no. Yeah.
[193] Was that the first Christmas party?
[194] Before that, I don't even remember what the occasion was.
[195] It was, hey, isn't this awesome?
[196] We're going to do a thing.
[197] Yeah.
[198] But, yeah, pork chop to end all pork chops there.
[199] A good pork chop goes a long way.
[200] And I don't know.
[201] Like it's one of those things where you – like with the steaks, you wonder like where are they getting their meat because I can't find – I can't find pork chops like this.
[202] In like a safe way or something.
[203] You got to cut that manually I think.
[204] That's – yeah.
[205] No butcher is going to cut you that kind of chop.
[206] That's a good chop.
[207] I like pork chops.
[208] I don't like lamb.
[209] You don't like lamb?
[210] A little too gamey for me. I do like lamb.
[211] I'm not huge on lamb.
[212] I'll eat lamb but I'm not – it's not – I don't know.
[213] Well, here's the thing.
[214] You got to cut it with something.
[215] You got to mix it with something.
[216] Yeah, yeah.
[217] The taste is a little like – Yeah, like a – well, and it depends.
[218] Like with the pork chops, like you can't just go to a store and buy their lamb.
[219] Like you need good like proper farm lamb.
[220] You can't just have factory lamb.
[221] It's not going to be any good.
[222] We used to raise lambs, so we used to eat a shitload of lamb.
[223] Take a lot of it and grab it.
[224] Keep the baby lamb in a little dark box.
[225] Grind it up.
[226] No, we weren't making – Become anemic.
[227] We weren't making – Oh, yeah.
[228] It slips right off the bone.
[229] It slips right off the bone no matter how you kill them.
[230] Believe me. Did you ever butcher an animal?
[231] I was there when we were doing it.
[232] But, no, I never had to end one myself.
[233] Yeah, seeing, like, a pile of sheep bleeding out in the pen.
[234] I'll give you some perspective.
[235] Absolutely.
[236] And then, like, the butcher dude rolls up.
[237] Because, you know, we don't actually dress it down ourselves or anything.
[238] We're just raising them and then slaughtering them and taking the meat.
[239] But then when the butcher guy shows up, the guy who has the big fucking sharpest shit knife.
[240] And he walks right up to them and just, like, does his sheep whisperer thing.
[241] And he, like, just, like, gets in their mind.
[242] Then walks up and just pulls out the knife.
[243] And then.
[244] Right at the throat?
[245] Yeah, just right at the throat.
[246] And then you have to hang it upside down?
[247] It opens it right up.
[248] Yeah, and then when you let him kick it out and bleed it out because it's easier to get the blood out that way.
[249] And then he's got his truck and he has a hook that comes out the back of the truck.
[250] Wow, really?
[251] And he dresses it down right there in the field.
[252] Oh, he just peels it right off.
[253] Oh, yeah, so you get to sit there.
[254] That was the most fascinating part of the process.
[255] Where does he put the entrails and stuff?
[256] In a garbage bag.
[257] Takes it with him.
[258] He's got his dog that's there.
[259] He's got a thing that he does with those.
[260] He doesn't like to talk about it.
[261] The happiest dog in the world.
[262] Let me tell you.
[263] The dog that rolls around with the butcher truck.
[264] Oh, I bet.
[265] I don't know.
[266] He would put it all in a big bucket and then it would go in the back of the truck.
[267] Separate from the sheep, obviously.
[268] I feel like they should make people...
[269] Off to the comb hot dogs.
[270] Kill an animal.
[271] If you decide to commit to eating meat, like, you know what?
[272] Everybody, do you have your card this year?
[273] Did you slaughter something?
[274] Did you kill something yourself?
[275] I feel like there's a good perspective.
[276] You've got to be like, I totally agree with eating meat.
[277] I'm down to do it.
[278] I mostly came up around dairy operations, so it wasn't a whole lot of animals getting slaughtered.
[279] It was more just like cows getting milked and that stuff.
[280] But sometimes, yeah, you'd be like, yo.
[281] It's time to kill this thing.
[282] Smoke this thing.
[283] Eat it.
[284] No, like when we first started doing that, it was definitely for me one of those, like, I have to decide, like, am I okay with this?
[285] And I'm like, in fact, I am more okay with it now because I've been there.
[286] I was in the shit.
[287] Yeah.
[288] Slaughter and animals kind of.
[289] Messier than you'd think.
[290] Actually, no. It's about as messy as you think.
[291] Because we had done chickens before that, and that's fun because you get to see them run around afterwards and try and do races.
[292] I think the most savage farm thing I ever encountered personally was the weird little super thick, super tight rubber bands that they used to castrate balls or whatever.
[293] Oh, no. We would use those on the tails for the sheep and also on the balls for the boys.
[294] Just cut circulation off and wither away.
[295] Just seeing how super thick and tight these bands were and imagining that.
[296] process just going like fuck that.
[297] Yeah the device you have to use to get it on there.
[298] Brad you ever butcher something?
[299] Nope.
[300] Nothing?
[301] Squirrel?
[302] Nope.
[303] A lot of hunters in my family.
[304] A lot of?
[305] Yes.
[306] But you yourself never engaged in the practice.
[307] I've definitely enjoyed the spoils.
[308] Oh sure.
[309] There's a lot of deer hunting going on.
[310] I'm not a huge venison guy.
[311] We had venison burgers one time.
[312] Sure.
[313] Speaking of meats, you've got to cut with other meats.
[314] Yeah.
[315] Venison.
[316] Venison alone would not make a good burger.
[317] Definitely got to get it.
[318] But it's one of those things.
[319] You mix it.
[320] So I was having some Turkish food this weekend, getting some wraps on, some donor on, and they do like a beef and lamb mix.
[321] It's really good because you get a little bit of the flavor on the lamb, but cut it with something a little more normal.
[322] Anyway.
[323] Anyway.
[324] Brotherhood's done.
[325] Put her bow on it.
[326] Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.
[327] You put it back in the box, back on the shelf.
[328] I did.
[329] Castrate it and open his throat.
[330] Put the rubber band around his balls.
[331] Great game.
[332] Great experience.
[333] I did a little multiplayer and then I got all the single player achievements and I don't think I will be revisiting it anytime soon.
[334] But you don't know about the DLC plans.
[335] Do I not?
[336] No. Okay.
[337] No, not really.
[338] There's weird unlockables.
[339] I know they're going to release one.
[340] Yeah, there must be some.
[341] Or they're going to release at least two.
[342] Did you know that there are, like, cheats and stuff that you can enable in that game?
[343] I had no idea.
[344] Like, if you 100 % certain sequences, you can get, like, a Desmond skin.
[345] And, like, there's also, like, turning the horses into unicorns or something like that.
[346] Like, weird stuff that I don't know.
[347] Weird.
[348] I hadn't.
[349] No, I hadn't.
[350] No, weird.
[351] But why would you think that would be in that game?
[352] Oh, and Jeff, I figured out you were complaining last week about having the Altair clothes on the entire time.
[353] Yeah, yeah.
[354] There's like an X button for like unequip rather than.
[355] Or you have to like go to that thing and unequip it or something like that.
[356] Yeah, it's like it's not intuitive.
[357] You have to reload it, I think.
[358] When you hit it, it's like, hey, any unsaved progress will be.
[359] Which that game says nonstop.
[360] Like almost everything you do is like, hey, save progress.
[361] I guess this is a good point as any to bring this up.
[362] Like that needs to – They need to give you the option to save it when that stuff happens.
[363] Right.
[364] Because so many games say that.
[365] And you're not really sure what it really means.
[366] Or like, I don't know when the last time to save because you're just an autosave kind of game.
[367] I can't hard save any time.
[368] So just remember last time the little chicken icon appeared and ran around.
[369] So just give me an option that's like, hey, any unsaved progress will not be saved.
[370] The last time Elton John appeared in Breakdance.
[371] I can't really remember when that was, and that's the autosave icon.
[372] You should make that your autosave icon because I will remember that shit.
[373] Every time?
[374] Ah, by like the fifth time.
[375] I'll have a different routine for every time it shows up.
[376] Because then it has to load the thing to save.
[377] It has to load the save icon, and it just slows everything down.
[378] Yeah.
[379] Anyway, Brotherhood.
[380] You want peace of mind.
[381] It's going to cost you, all right?
[382] Fair enough.
[383] Just tell me. Freedomate free.
[384] All right.
[385] These colors don't run.
[386] Just tell me. Assalamualaikum.
[387] I think you got that wrong.
[388] Would you like the save?
[389] Shalom, Peewee.
[390] There does need to be just like the, you know, Fable 3 for all of its other faults.
[391] Whenever you quit, it's like, all right, save and quit.
[392] Yeah.
[393] Just give me one of those.
[394] Borderlands is really good.
[395] It just says, your progress will be saved.
[396] All right, good, great, cool.
[397] You know what?
[398] Having played that game recently, that was so refreshing to see that because every single game, it's always, are you sure you want to quit?
[399] All unsaved progress will be lost.
[400] Why don't you just fucking save it?
[401] To have a game just straight up say, hey, go ahead, everything's fine.
[402] But even if they need to say like, Would you like to save from the last checkpoint or would you like to save from the start of this level?
[403] Because sometimes I just have no idea.
[404] Like, fuck, I don't know.
[405] I collected two flags since I think I saved.
[406] Do you save every – because I don't know when you save.
[407] In Assassin's Creed, I specifically became super aware of whenever the little icon was up because of – Because of those issues.
[408] I never lost any progress.
[409] Neither did I. I think it saves all the time.
[410] But to make sure, I would jump out of the Animus because I'm like, man, the fucker needs to save now, right?
[411] Sometimes I don't know when it's loading or saving because I think it's a similar icon, but maybe I'm wrong.
[412] Anyway, great little title.
[413] When it's loading, you're in alternate space.
[414] It's also a thing, too.
[415] Loading in that game is fun.
[416] I always take out my sword to throw it.
[417] I don't know.
[418] I was throwing my sword.
[419] Do they still do the dick around?
[420] Totally.
[421] All the animations.
[422] Just run around, jump.
[423] You spend more time dicking around in computer land in this game than you do in the other two.
[424] In the loading?
[425] There's whole levels.
[426] There's the whole virtual thing.
[427] They just made levels that exist in computer.
[428] VR missions.
[429] Yes.
[430] So that's the Creed Brotherhood.
[431] Let me ask you, did you say you got all of the multiplayer achievements?
[432] No. You said all the single player.
[433] I accidentally got like one multiplayer achievement, which actually was worse than not getting any of them because it was like...
[434] Now the can of worms has been opened.
[435] No, it's the can of worms out of my 360.
[436] I got the...
[437] You got the haystack achievement for multiplayer, the one that I got on PS3 during TNT last week.
[438] So I was like, fuck.
[439] I finally did the thing and got it, but not on your profile.
[440] Not on my profile.
[441] Not on the system that I have all my points on.
[442] So I was like, shit.
[443] My multiplayer is interesting.
[444] It's interesting.
[445] It is.
[446] It's interesting and it's profoundly flawed.
[447] How profoundly?
[448] It has serious issues with priority about certain actions.
[449] Yes.
[450] And some of those priorities can make it frustrating, can make it seem kind of unfair, like, fuck, I pressed the button, or I was totally getting away.
[451] And it might just be a sense of perception, or it could just be that, yo, it's favoring this act a whole lot more than this other one.
[452] Could be lag, it sounds like.
[453] It could be, yeah, it could be issues.
[454] I mean, I think that's probably what it is, is like, in cases where it doesn't know because of lag, it's favoring one thing more than another.
[455] I'd say it's definitely like Call of Duty knife syndrome or Call of Duty kill cam syndrome of like, dude, that's totally not what I saw when this was happening.
[456] The network saw something different than what one of the clients did.
[457] I kind of do wish that they gave you...
[458] A little bit of an opportunity to escape an assassination once you know the dude is about to assassinate you.
[459] Like if you can get like an X prompt real quick and you hit it and then it might go back and forth for like a second.
[460] Like it does have that whole B button humiliate thing.
[461] But that's tough.
[462] The timing on it is really tough.
[463] Once you get the smoke bomb, I feel like that really opens.
[464] Like I was humiliating a lot of dudes after I unlocked that and started figuring out how to use it.
[465] Yeah, those perks or whatever they call them, those extra abilities.
[466] I think they call them perks.
[467] Yeah, they make a huge difference.
[468] But yeah, I think they could.
[469] I think that the multiplayer is interesting, like you said.
[470] And I think that it has potential to be expanded on in the future.
[471] Yeah, and the way they kind of capture at least some of the single player in that multiplayer, I can't imagine was an easy task.
[472] And I feel like we kind of discussed this some during TNT last week.
[473] It has a tone that no other multiplayer game does as far as – Very deliberate.
[474] Yeah, the kind of tension that it creates and the speed that it operates on and just kind of the circular dynamic of it all.
[475] Like every game is you're hunting someone, who's hunting someone, who's hunting someone, but it's never this specific.
[476] Yeah.
[477] Let me ask you.
[478] Do you guys think this thing has staying power?
[479] The multiplayer?
[480] Or will it be in the next iteration?
[481] Let's say a person were to play through the first two Assassin's Creed games over the next, say, two months.
[482] People will still be playing this.
[483] I think so.
[484] You think so?
[485] I think so.
[486] On the off chance that it's dead, just like you can't even get a game going, if a person were to get Brotherhood and just play the single player and then never touch it again, would that still be a satisfactory experience?
[487] I put about 32 hours into the single player.
[488] So you could pretend this multiplayer is not even there and this game is still awesome.
[489] Absolutely.
[490] That's cool.
[491] That's all I needed to hear.
[492] I don't know if you'd get...
[493] The kind of thing is the multiplayer at a point is like, oh, bonus, because I already got a full -on really good Assassin's Creed game.
[494] I feel like that is a legitimate concern.
[495] It's probably going to take me two or three months to get through that other stuff and get this.
[496] I would also say it's probably in your best interest to take a break after Assassin's Creed 2 before jumping into Brotherhood.
[497] 1 to 2 is such a leap, but 2 to Brotherhood is much more incremental.
[498] Yeah, you might get a little burned out, especially if you're trying to 100 % everything.
[499] Sure, sure.
[500] You have a lot of flags.
[501] Well, I found, like, when I played through Uncharted 2, I hadn't played Uncharted 1, and I was going to review Uncharted 2, so I literally played them back -to -back.
[502] Like, I finished Uncharted 1 on, like, Saturday morning and cracked into 2 in that afternoon.
[503] Like, you can really, really appreciate the contrast and the improvement, like, when you have them run up against each other.
[504] Yeah, so I would love to hear, you know.
[505] Get back to me when you go from Creed 1 to Creed 2.
[506] That's the thing.
[507] You guys keep telling me not to play 1.
[508] That's kind of why I want to.
[509] I want to see in stark relief exactly what the difference is.
[510] I think you should play 1 but not at the cost of never playing Brotherhood.
[511] If you're never going to play 1 because it's so tedious to get through, I feel like you should just jump into 2.
[512] Yeah, I don't think you need to finish Assassin's Creed Brotherhood or the first Assassin's Creed.
[513] Man, I don't think I could go back, and I love that series.
[514] I don't think I could play one again.
[515] Really?
[516] They just add so many things in Brotherhood that make the game just more powerful.
[517] It gets really monotonous.
[518] It's one of the defining characteristics of the first one.
[519] There's like three things to do.
[520] I have a save game like a third of the way through it.
[521] I played that three years ago.
[522] I couldn't get through it.
[523] Then you're good.
[524] It doesn't change.
[525] I can't even remember one, but if you can kind of critical path and strong arm your way to the end of one, just do it.
[526] I wanted to do it just for the story.
[527] Don't do the side missions.
[528] Yeah, I was just going to blaze through the story as fast as possible.
[529] Don't even look at flags.
[530] Just go.
[531] Because, yeah, they made smart moves in the iterations of that series.
[532] The only thing that I feel like they've kind of lost along the way and one of the things that I really enjoyed about the first one, I guess they still kind of have it.
[533] It's just that they've loosened up so many of the restrictions.
[534] They've made that game a lot more stealth optional.
[535] than it initially was.
[536] And I just remember, like, because you had your, like, 10, 15 targets, whoever it was, like, you have to kill these dudes to...
[537] In the first one.
[538] Yeah, in the very first one.
[539] Was it nine, I think?
[540] Was it nine guys?
[541] Nine guys, yeah.
[542] I think so, yeah.
[543] But it's like, they're these specific guys that are, you know, that are relevant to the story or whatever, and each have their stronghold or fucking whatever it was.
[544] I really enjoyed that.
[545] I enjoyed, like, because they had these kind of drawn out...
[546] Like, you know, you would stalk them and find them and then.
[547] But I blew every one of those.
[548] I don't think I ever stealthed, killed a dude.
[549] Something would happen.
[550] Yeah.
[551] Fuck, all right, just get running.
[552] All right, better get him.
[553] Yeah.
[554] Better get out of here.
[555] And I guess, yeah, I guess, like, the elements from that are still in it, but they've made it very commonplace.
[556] Like, now it's just like, oh, there's the messenger, and then go run after him.
[557] Yeah, the kills that you need to do for story purposes, they are not as specific with how they want you to do it.
[558] Like, remember, like, the lengthy conversations that Altair would have with the dying person and all this profound shit that everyone was always...
[559] The two had that.
[560] I guess a little more, yeah.
[561] Some of that.
[562] This one's more just like rest in peace.
[563] Yeah, yeah.
[564] Which is all right because you're killing a lot of dudes in Brotherhood.
[565] What is it?
[566] Rescue it.
[567] Rescue it in Pache.
[568] It's like two – Brotherhood, you're just – you're mowing guys down.
[569] Yeah, I guess Brotherhood is so much more about volume.
[570] Even with the combat.
[571] You've got a gun.
[572] You've got throwing knives.
[573] You've got poison dagger.
[574] You've got a crossbow.
[575] You've got assassins you can call.
[576] You have up to a dozen assassins that you can call.
[577] So you never even have to touch the dude.
[578] You're just like – I was picking off dudes and calling assassins.
[579] By the time I had all my assassins, I was just constantly using them.
[580] So like on my retail playthrough of Brotherhood, as soon as – I basically got just as far in the story stuff as I needed.
[581] needed to to unlock the the guild yeah and then just like paid no attention to story stuff for several hours and it was just like build up uh all the guys just yeah just just build up my guild so that i had nothing but like you know level 10 or whatever level stab assassins i will say this about brotherhood they do a poor job of um isolating you into the areas that only you can um visit Like they show stuff on the map that you can't get to because those areas are locked off.
[582] I really didn't like that.
[583] Like Borgia Towers and stuff.
[584] Oh, yeah.
[585] Like, oh, can I open that up now?
[586] It's weird when – like I thought it was odd because it seems like they are only locking off sections that have Borgia Towers in them.
[587] Yeah.
[588] And I definitely was like of a mindset of like I just want to go through and knock out all these fucking Borgia Towers.
[589] Because I am economically focused.
[590] Kind of a waste of time to go check it out and be like, oh, there's a fucking false wall there.
[591] Yeah, like the last – I only ran into it – like there's the last three of all the Borgia Towers that you can get that are kind of on the outskirts.
[592] There's like on the west and kind of southern sides.
[593] Anyway, I feel like I've talked about Brotherhood a lot.
[594] But you're done with it.
[595] But I am done with it.
[596] Congratulations.
[597] That was a lot of fun.
[598] And I've got a stack of games now that I'm excited to dive into.
[599] You've had a stack of games.
[600] I know.
[601] What's next?
[602] I think I'm going to go through Enslaved and work down the pile.
[603] Enslaved is fairly high in my similar pile.
[604] Yeah.
[605] I don't know.
[606] People talk a lot of good smack about that game.
[607] Yeah.
[608] People say good things.
[609] Positive smack.
[610] Positive smack.
[611] I don't know.
[612] I played a couple hours of it and I thought the controls were a little rough.
[613] They're a little unwieldy.
[614] They're very animation heavy.
[615] Yeah.
[616] They're not what you'd be.
[617] Especially coming out of something like Assassin's Creed where the weird things, like, I don't know, pushing A to drop down ledges and jump off of ledges instead of pushing B, which is like, ah.
[618] Weird things that just seem strange.
[619] I mean, it's not as responsive as some games, but it doesn't have to be.
[620] It doesn't require that of you necessarily.
[621] It's that story people keep saying.
[622] Yeah, it's really the story and the characters.
[623] I'm waiting for it to knock my socks out.
[624] It's really the characters.
[625] I mean, wait for the characters to develop.
[626] That's the strength of that game.
[627] Because the story is an old story.
[628] Monkey.
[629] I mean, I've seen Dragon Ball.
[630] I know where this goes.
[631] Yeah, you know.
[632] Then he's Goku.
[633] You're already there.
[634] This is easy.
[635] Flying Cloud.
[636] The opening sequence is pretty cool.
[637] Nimbus.
[638] Yeah.
[639] That's it.
[640] Brotherhood.
[641] That's kind of it.
[642] Again, a lot of other stuff to play.
[643] Fantastic.
[644] Are you going to finish Dead Rising 2?
[645] Yes.
[646] Ever?
[647] No, totally.
[648] I don't know.
[649] I'm going to finish that stack.
[650] That stack will get finished.
[651] Yeah.
[652] All right.
[653] Saboteur will be done.
[654] Oh, my God.
[655] Wet will get finished.
[656] What are you doing?
[657] Dante's Inferno will go down.
[658] You should at least save the 09 games until after the holidays.
[659] Yeah, save 09 for 11.
[660] Yeah, I don't know what I'm going to play during the winter break.
[661] Cataclysm.
[662] I'm done.
[663] Going to get back into WoW.
[664] I am.
[665] I think I am.
[666] Seriously.
[667] I mean, I was never in too deep, so I'm thinking I might check it out.
[668] What's your guy at?
[669] Do you have a guy?
[670] I don't know.
[671] He's a warlock who's like near 60.
[672] Okay.
[673] Hmm.
[674] But I'm going to start a new character.
[675] I spent a fair amount of time playing WoW, and I never got out of my 50s.
[676] I thought you never got out of, like, your 30s.
[677] No, I did.
[678] Did you get back in?
[679] I did eventually.
[680] I think I quit at 56.
[681] Yes, you did.
[682] I remember.
[683] I have vivid memories of those heady days.
[684] That's probably like where I am.
[685] Right after lunch.
[686] Like, mid -50s, like, closing in on 60s.
[687] Oh, man. I hit the Outlands, and that's as far as I got, like, going through there.
[688] And you have to be 50 to get in there, right?
[689] Expansion?
[690] Yeah.
[691] You have to be 58?
[692] No. Yeah.
[693] You have 58, I think, to get into Burning Crusade.
[694] But that also takes like 10 minutes now apparently.
[695] So yeah, it's worth my money, like the monthly, to just check out the starting zones because those were always super fun.
[696] So I'll pay my, what is it, still 15 bucks a month, right?
[697] Yeah.
[698] And you don't have to pay for the new starting zones or you have to pay for the new characters, right?
[699] The whole world is cataclyzed, right?
[700] Yes.
[701] You have to buy the expansion to make one of the new characters.
[702] I don't know if...
[703] They lock you out of those zones without the expansion, though.
[704] I would hope that you can at least go there.
[705] I bet you can.
[706] I don't know.
[707] Anyway, I want to check it out.
[708] I think Blizzard does a great job with their early game stuff, and a lot of people would argue they do a great job throughout the whole thing, so I've never seen the lake.
[709] Stormwind's got a big, fat fucking hole in the middle of it.
[710] Yeah, I don't know.
[711] I kind of want to see it.
[712] We saw some of that stuff from the beta, and it looked crazy.
[713] It does.
[714] There's monsters in Stormwind.
[715] Yeah.
[716] Like underwater stuff.
[717] Crazy cultists have taken over.
[718] That's no good.
[719] So maybe I'll check that out over winter break.
[720] Fantastic.
[721] Come on.
[722] Dude, what are you doing?
[723] Yeah, well, they're redesigning sector space in Star Trek Online.
[724] Oh, yeah?
[725] How's that going?
[726] I don't know.
[727] I wouldn't believe it if I saw a picture.
[728] I saw a picture.
[729] They're redesigning sector space to look a little bit more like space.
[730] Oh, yeah?
[731] Not so much like a grid.
[732] Yeah, which I don't know.
[733] I kind of liked the grid.
[734] And you can get in there anytime you want.
[735] That's right.
[736] They're waiting for me whenever I need it.
[737] Sector Space is not what was wrong with Star Trek Online.
[738] No. No. That was not the thing.
[739] It was like, oh, okay.
[740] Everything is great.
[741] The stellar cartography section of the game was not the broken part about Star Trek Online.
[742] So how was your weekend rating in Star Trek Online, Jeff?
[743] It was great.
[744] No, I don't know.
[745] I actually don't think I played any games over the last week.
[746] I'm sitting here trying to think.
[747] Played some Nailed for that quick look.
[748] I know you were sick.
[749] That was just over the weekend.
[750] So I definitely did not play any games over the weekend.
[751] Tell me about being sick this weekend.
[752] Did you take some NyQuil?
[753] I did, yeah.
[754] I started feeling bad when we were driving home on Friday night.
[755] And then sure enough, yeah, I don't know.
[756] It's all been sinus stuff.
[757] Nothing really too major beyond that.
[758] Just kind of feeling crappy.
[759] So I've just been laying low, drinking a lot of fluids, soup.
[760] It seemed like it was hitting everyone this weekend.
[761] I was getting scared because I was in close proximity to people who would get sick.
[762] I don't think we're out of the woods yet.
[763] No, definitely not.
[764] As of Sunday, I was convinced that I'm incubating right now.
[765] Maybe in you right now.
[766] I'm pretty sure it's in me. So I'm just waiting for it to expose itself.
[767] And I'm going to be like, oh, I'm sick.
[768] Now it's in here.
[769] All right.
[770] It's tapped.
[771] That's the worst feeling when it dawns on you and there's like 30 minutes of denial.
[772] No, this is not happening.
[773] Maybe if I take some zinc.
[774] But it's even just like it's just that little twinge up in the sinus.
[775] It's like you swallow it once and you go.
[776] That swallow was a little sharp.
[777] Yeah, the scratch in the back was...
[778] I feel a little bit of soreness around there.
[779] I have been fucking exhausted today.
[780] God damn it.
[781] You know when that happened to me last?
[782] On your way to Tokyo?
[783] The day of the GSL finals.
[784] Literally like six hours before the finals, I was like, fuck, I am getting sick.
[785] Perfect storm of factors going on there.
[786] Well, flying to Tokyo, that's a good way to get sick.
[787] Or to Korea.
[788] Indeed.
[789] Whatever.
[790] Tokyo, Korea.
[791] Yeah, I don't know.
[792] I guess I played some of the Marvel pinball tables that are coming out this week.
[793] You guess.
[794] It might have happened.
[795] I know that that happened.
[796] Yeah, we did that quick look.
[797] You have achievements, so it must have happened.
[798] Something happened with that.
[799] Yeah, those are pretty good tables.
[800] It's kind of weird how they're doing that where it's just like it's a download for 360 as a pinball effects to add on, but on.
[801] PSN is going to be its own standalone thing.
[802] Does Pinball Fix exist on platforms other than...
[803] I feel like that's a PC thing too, right?
[804] No?
[805] No, no. It's just 360, huh?
[806] Yeah, they have Zen Pinball on the PlayStation Network.
[807] It's pretty old.
[808] I feel like you should sit someone from Zen down and be like, what the fuck is up with all of your brands?
[809] Because they have like 18 different mini golf things in the same fashion.
[810] They're local.
[811] Zen?
[812] Yeah, we can get...
[813] Is that the name of the company?
[814] Zen Studios.
[815] Yeah, right, right.
[816] Yeah, we can get them in here.
[817] I always assumed they were European.
[818] Yeah, I would make that same assumption.
[819] But no. Especially because some of the voice stuff in some of those tables, those PinballFX1 tables.
[820] I mean, just because they're based here doesn't mean they're not European.
[821] That's a good point.
[822] Maybe I should say some element of their business is based here.
[823] I'm not sure that the whole company is.
[824] How are those tables?
[825] Well, don't start inviting them here, for God's sakes.
[826] They're pretty good.
[827] Yeah, I don't know.
[828] They're pretty good.
[829] The Blade Table, I think, is probably the best of the four.
[830] Because it has a day -night cycle, which is crazy.
[831] What happens at night?
[832] Vampires come out.
[833] Vampires happen.
[834] Dracula.
[835] What do you think happens at night?
[836] Wesley Snipes comes out.
[837] It turns into a discotheque.
[838] Oh, that's pretty cool.
[839] Yeah.
[840] I can see why you might like that.
[841] Big old disco ball just comes down.
[842] Has he been incarcerated yet?
[843] Yes.
[844] I think it's this week or last week or something.
[845] He finally had to report.
[846] Is he?
[847] He's convicted?
[848] Yeah.
[849] He was convicted a lot of appeals and all this stuff.
[850] Oh, no. Wesley Snipes going to law jail.
[851] It's the worst.
[852] Should have paid his taxes.
[853] Did they say what jail he's going to?
[854] Is it like maximum security or something?
[855] Send it over to San Quentin.
[856] No, I don't know.
[857] He knows all that martial arts stuff.
[858] Whatever.
[859] They're not going to put him in general pop.
[860] You don't think so?
[861] No. I mean that's the thing that always annoys me whenever it's like this celebrity is going to jail.
[862] They're not going to like shitty hardcore bad jail.
[863] They're going to like soft ass jail.
[864] I wouldn't make that assumption.
[865] What is it that grants them that accommodation?
[866] A good lawyer.
[867] They don't want him to be killed in jail.
[868] Is that really the concern?
[869] I'm sure it's a big disturbance probably in the general population.
[870] It's going to make everyone act all crazier than they would normally.
[871] Like if you're a convict and you've got your shiv, right?
[872] Because this is jail talk.
[873] And then you see Wesley Snipes there and you go, I'm going to kill Wesley Snipes unless you get me out of here.
[874] Not even that.
[875] Just like, I'm going to kill him to up my stake in this prison so that people don't fuck with me because they know that I murdered Wesley Snipes.
[876] Also, you know how many people want to murder Wesley Snipes?
[877] They call me Passenger 58.
[878] Act now, motherfucker.
[879] Act now.
[880] So, yeah, it's not just for the celebrity's sake, but, you know.
[881] But.
[882] Again, not to say that being incarcerated is anything to scoff at, but still, it's not.
[883] I don't know.
[884] It's not going to be Blood In Blood Out for Wesley Snipes.
[885] I would love to watch Wesley Snipes in a remake of Blood In Blood Out.
[886] You have my honor.
[887] Didn't I read that Lil Wayne went in the hole at one point?
[888] I believe he did.
[889] He ended up in solitary for a week or two.
[890] Sounds like fun.
[891] Solitary?
[892] Yeah.
[893] I always wondered that.
[894] I know it's probably not good.
[895] I've read some first -hand accounts.
[896] It sounds like the worst thing.
[897] Like, is it the sensory deprivation?
[898] Is that the worst part?
[899] I think so, yeah.
[900] Because I don't mind being by myself for long periods of time.
[901] I still find something about sensory deprivation to be really intriguing.
[902] I don't know.
[903] Like, you think you just couldn't sleep it off?
[904] Just like, I don't know, I'm going to sleep for a couple of days.
[905] You think you'd just go crazy?
[906] You'd wake up and not know if it was day or night?
[907] You wouldn't know?
[908] Yeah, I don't know.
[909] You wouldn't know when to sleep.
[910] That's all the time.
[911] But eventually you wake up.
[912] So that's kind of how I was this weekend.
[913] Yeah, I don't know.
[914] Like I spent a lot of time just kind of like on lockdown ripping a bunch of DVDs and TV shows and stuff to watch on my boxy box.
[915] Well, it's been real easy to lose your day night cycle here lately.
[916] Yeah.
[917] Just because of the weather.
[918] Yeah, the weather's been dark all day.
[919] Yeah, rainy.
[920] Yeah, it's been dark.
[921] Brent Shoemaker.
[922] Hey.
[923] Maybe you could save us from this.
[924] The doldrums.
[925] This low -key, down -ass podcast we've got.
[926] You want to know about video games?
[927] Yeah!
[928] I've got a video game for you.
[929] Fucking tell me about it.
[930] Played me some Viva goddamn Panetta.
[931] Oh, you went and got the 99 -cent deal?
[932] 99 cents for the Games for Windows Live version.
[933] That's right.
[934] I bought it.
[935] It was a dollar.
[936] I did, too.
[937] A dollar.
[938] Wait, for the original Viva Panetta?
[939] Not the newer one.
[940] On Games for Windows Live, it was running a weekend deal.
[941] What?
[942] I got it handed to Microsoft.
[943] Like, they...
[944] needed a way to get some eyes on this relaunch of their store.
[945] Yeah.
[946] They figured it out.
[947] Sell games for a dollar.
[948] Well, and yeah, it was like, was it like the original Bioshock was like five bucks a couple weeks ago?
[949] I think that one was a dollar.
[950] I bought that one too.
[951] Bioshock, yeah, Bioshock was a dollar.
[952] Separate achievements for the PC one.
[953] Yeah, that Viva Pinata has separate achievements.
[954] PC version of Blacklight Tango Down.
[955] Yeah, that one was the next day.
[956] So they've been doing it day by day.
[957] It's just like every day a new game for a dollar.
[958] And what's the client?
[959] How do you get the games?
[960] The Games for Windows Live.
[961] It's not even a client.
[962] There is a client.
[963] It's a client for buying stuff, but you don't have to buy stuff.
[964] They've centralized all that stuff.
[965] They finally actually have the standalone Games for Windows client.
[966] Well, they've had that for a while.
[967] But it used to be that it was just built into games.
[968] There was no standalone.
[969] You couldn't just launch a client and check your messages or anything like that.
[970] So transactions happen on the web now.
[971] With this new store.
[972] But then they create a save file that then launches the Games for Windows client.
[973] This is what it did on mine.
[974] Oh, okay.
[975] Yeah, yeah.
[976] When I clicked download on the receipt page, it literally downloaded the installer for the client.
[977] And I ran that.
[978] Well, actually, I had it installed already, so I just logged into it.
[979] And then it was like, you have Tinker and Viva Pinata.
[980] You can't run the game outside of the client.
[981] You can't.
[982] You run it just from a shortcut.
[983] I think it's DRM -free, actually.
[984] That sounds really weird.
[985] You don't have to pre -launch it, but it's not really DRM -free because it checks back against the game.
[986] That's true.
[987] You do have an activation key and all that stuff.
[988] But you don't have to run the client at all once it's installed.
[989] Not separately, but you are always running the Games for Windows client whenever you are running a Games for Windows game.
[990] I guess I should refer to the download manager.
[991] Yeah, it's not like with Steam where I got to launch Steam and then I got to go to my game.
[992] It's like I just start Viva Pinata and it's from the start.
[993] Like a game before 2008.
[994] Yes.
[995] Like old school.
[996] Yes, before Steam.
[997] Yeah.
[998] When did Steam come out?
[999] A while ago.
[1000] 2004.
[1001] Like it launched with Half -Life 2.
[1002] It's a long time.
[1003] I mean, they were testing it with just Counter -Strike before that, though, weren't they?
[1004] Oh, I think you're right.
[1005] Yeah, I think so.
[1006] Yeah.
[1007] Well, are you sure, actually?
[1008] It was the first thing I ever used before.
[1009] First thing was Counter -Strike.
[1010] Oh, man. Half -Life.
[1011] Yeah, I would swear that it launched, like, the night that Half -Life 2 came out because I remember it didn't work and nobody could play Half -Life 2 and they were going ape fucking shit.
[1012] Maybe it just got really popular for Half -Life 2.
[1013] I think that's when it got good was when Half -Life 2 came out.
[1014] Oh, I distinctly remember it being terrible when Half -Life 2 came out.
[1015] Like in the wake of Half -Life 2, I think it got good.
[1016] But that's when they made it a full thing.
[1017] I think before that, they were like, hey, you can just download Counter -Strike out of this thing and do all this stuff.
[1018] But the community stuff maybe rolled out around the time of Half -Life 2.
[1019] How would I be right?
[1020] Because they didn't have their store up at that point, right?
[1021] Because I remember going like, oh, yeah, I'll try out this Counter -Strike thing.
[1022] Oh, I got to download this fucking whatever.
[1023] I'm not creating some separate crazy account.
[1024] Remember when you didn't like Steam?
[1025] Yeah.
[1026] Yes.
[1027] Now I love Steam.
[1028] Like who doesn't want everything to be on Steam now?
[1029] I don't know.
[1030] Besides Microsoft.
[1031] So how is your Viva Pinata games from Windows?
[1032] Dude, man, I'm playing that again.
[1033] Does it like look better?
[1034] Yeah, just dramatically.
[1035] Like everything's a little higher res?
[1036] Well, yeah, not dramatically.
[1037] It still looks basically the same, just higher res and like a solid 60 frames a second.
[1038] Playing it with a mouse sure is preferable to playing it with a controller.
[1039] I bet.
[1040] That game seems like it would translate well to a mouse.
[1041] But it just makes you sad that that will never happen again, that another one of those will never ever get made.
[1042] That's really sad.
[1043] 2002, the Steam client.
[1044] Really?
[1045] Yeah.
[1046] Oh, wow.
[1047] First made available for download in 2002 during the beta period for Counter -Strike 1 .6.
[1048] Well, here's the thing.
[1049] At the time, I don't think it was recognizable as Steam.
[1050] This was their patch delivery system.
[1051] It was what they used to keep versions.
[1052] Server browser, that sort of stuff.
[1053] It wasn't necessarily even a payment system.
[1054] I don't think they had a store or anything like that.
[1055] It was basically to stop people from hacking Counter -Strike and to deliver patches so that everyone had version control.
[1056] Anything else?
[1057] Bradley?
[1058] Played through the first act of Vanquish.
[1059] How are you feeling about Vanquish?
[1060] I think it was fun.
[1061] It was just fun to play.
[1062] It's a game.
[1063] We have no aspirations to go beyond our format.
[1064] We're just going to be a fun -ass crazy game.
[1065] Want to shoot some robots and occasionally dudes in robot suits?
[1066] Do you kind of want to be a robot?
[1067] Do you want to have rocket legs?
[1068] I'm okay with that.
[1069] Do you like a gun that is all guns?
[1070] Oh, that thing is awesome.
[1071] I wish...
[1072] I really wish that game highlighted your sweet gun more.
[1073] Yeah, I don't know what you can do with it, really, that changes the gameplay, because, like, you can't have an instant weapon switch, you know, like, for balance reasons.
[1074] Well, I mean, I just mean, like...
[1075] I would deliberately swing the camera around to watch the transformation process because it looked so awesome.
[1076] I found myself between battles just switching weapons like crazy.
[1077] But when you're actually playing, you never see it.
[1078] Unless you deliberately go out of your way to switch and look at it and go, oh, this looks awesome.
[1079] That's true.
[1080] But it's such a fast -paced game.
[1081] You know what it should have had?
[1082] It should have had a Michael Bay -style, non -optional...
[1083] Circular camera sweep every time you switched weapons.
[1084] Every time?
[1085] Every time you switched weapons.
[1086] Or just a pop -up window that's a close -up of the gun.
[1087] You could do a comic -style picture -in -picture, like a little frame stamps up.
[1088] Yeah, that's a good idea.
[1089] The thing that Jeff said.
[1090] Sure.
[1091] That's a fun game.
[1092] I'm playing it on hard because so many people harped on it being short and or easy.
[1093] Hard is pretty hard.
[1094] It took me off and on playing it most of the afternoon to get through the first act.
[1095] Nice.
[1096] That you would have been done with the game by then.
[1097] Yeah, yeah.
[1098] Maybe you should have played on normal because you still have a shitload of games to play as well.
[1099] It's true.
[1100] But it's fun on hard.
[1101] It's not like gruelingly, frustratingly hard.
[1102] It's just like a nice, really stiff challenge.
[1103] Yeah.
[1104] It's kind of fun that way, and I'm digging it.
[1105] I felt like it gave a pretty good challenge on normal, too.
[1106] Yeah, yeah.
[1107] I can see it.
[1108] I just didn't want to blaze through it.
[1109] Also, there's a lot more points.
[1110] That's true.
[1111] There's a lot more points.
[1112] But it was one of those things where I played through it on normal, and then I was like, the last thing I want to do right now is boot this thing right back up and start playing it on fucking hard.
[1113] I knew I probably wouldn't go back through it immediately, so it's like 175 extra points.
[1114] Each level's got a...
[1115] Each act or whatever has points associated for each difficulty level.
[1116] Yep.
[1117] I guess that's pretty much it.
[1118] I watched a whole ton of the current GSL season.
[1119] Got all caught up on that.
[1120] There's some exciting stuff going on there.
[1121] Really?
[1122] Are people playing StarCraft?
[1123] Yes.
[1124] They're playing the shit out of it.
[1125] Minor GSL spoilers to follow, I suppose, so skip ahead if you care.
[1126] Okay.
[1127] A foreigner has made it to the top eight.
[1128] That's a big deal.
[1129] What's his name?
[1130] That's a big deal.
[1131] Liquid Genro is one of the guys I interviewed.
[1132] Oh, yeah?
[1133] At the OGS house, yeah.
[1134] In what video?
[1135] in the We Visit the OGS Team Liquid House video.
[1136] You're supposed to plug it.
[1137] Yeah, go watch that video.
[1138] Plug your video.
[1139] I think it's good.
[1140] I haven't watched it.
[1141] I hope it's good.
[1142] You should watch it.
[1143] I know I should.
[1144] Yeah, it's a pretty big deal.
[1145] This is the furthest a foreigner has gotten in any Korean tournament for StarCraft II.
[1146] It's controversial.
[1147] So it's a big deal.
[1148] And he is laying waste.
[1149] He's doing really well.
[1150] What faction does he use?
[1151] Pretty exciting.
[1152] What's that?
[1153] Who does he use?
[1154] He's Terran.
[1155] Terran.
[1156] Build more Marines.
[1157] I'm not thrilled about, but yeah.
[1158] And there's a bunch of ProDOS in the top eight as well, so exciting times for the GSL.
[1159] This guy's playing StarCraft, huh?
[1160] Yeah.
[1161] Imagine that.
[1162] A bunch of Koreans.
[1163] Big patch coming.
[1164] Are you playing on the public test realm?
[1165] No. I'll just play that stuff when it happens, when it will enhance my ladder rank.
[1166] All right, well, let me tell you about a couple games, guys.
[1167] Tell me about video games.
[1168] Let me tell you about Disney Epic Mickey.
[1169] Oh, please do.
[1170] It's not very good.
[1171] That's a shame.
[1172] I agree.
[1173] Where does it fall down?
[1174] It's just not very good.
[1175] It's just not a very good game.
[1176] It is a 3D platformer.
[1177] It is a mascot -driven 3D platformer, the likes of which you're probably already very familiar with.
[1178] You don't necessarily mean that as a compliment.
[1179] Right.
[1180] I'm getting – I don't mean it as one way or the other.
[1181] I'm just saying like – like I think one of the first mistakes they made with that game was making it sound like it was going to be revelatory in any way.
[1182] Like the name Epic Mickey, it just completely oversells that game because it is – There's nothing epic about it?
[1183] Everything about the gameplay – Should they rename it to All Right Mickey?
[1184] They should name it Standard Bearing Mickey because it's just like – Like, yep.
[1185] N64 controller, Mickey.
[1186] Oh, just the – yeah, it has like N64 like camera issues with the platforming where it's like, well, I can't fucking see the thing that I need to jump to and you literally won't let me move the camera in a direction so that I can.
[1187] So I'm just going to have to make these blind jumps.
[1188] Like just a lot of shit like that.
[1189] Both platforms only have one analog stick, right?
[1190] You use the D -pad to move the thing, which again, it's like it's one of those kind of like, well – We didn't really make it for the platform, so here, this is a...
[1191] Use the C button.
[1192] Here's a shitty way to get around that.
[1193] Would it be better on, like, the classic controller or, say, the PS3 or Xbox?
[1194] Sure, sure.
[1195] You can't use it.
[1196] But it still wouldn't be a great game.
[1197] And, like, the whole kind of visual aesthetic of the game, it just feels like third generation Tim Burton, American McGee, right angles are oppressive, kind of.
[1198] Like, everything's dark and dingy.
[1199] Yeah, I don't much care for that game.
[1200] How's the painting and the thinning?
[1201] It's a gameplay mechanic.
[1202] There was one or two occasions where I was like, okay, that's kind of a clever use of that.
[1203] But it's just sort of like, there's not a path there.
[1204] I wonder how I'll get there.
[1205] Oh, look, I made a path there.
[1206] Or there's hidden shit somewhere in this world.
[1207] You've got to thin random spots to try and figure it out.
[1208] Do you feel like it's not?
[1209] They don't commit to that concept as far as how it affects the gameplay.
[1210] You use that in combat as well, but it's just not very compelling.
[1211] I think the only thing about that game that really warrants much attention is its implementation of some of the Disney stuff specifically.
[1212] Like I'm fairly knowledgeable about that and there was some good shouts and kind of like, oh, that's a pretty subtle thing for them to bust out like this.
[1213] But I think you would have to already have that appreciation built in to really get that.
[1214] Is there some kind of morality meter thing going on?
[1215] Kind of.
[1216] Does Mickey grow horns if he played that?
[1217] Lies that buzz around him?
[1218] No, it's – yeah, it's like that stuff doesn't even – Like there is some like if you make the guys good, then people will like you more and Oswald the rabbit will say, hey, you know, good job.
[1219] Oswald doesn't talk, does he?
[1220] No one talks.
[1221] It's just it doesn't have – Vinny, I think you said like I would – the one thing I would expect from this is that Disney level of polish.
[1222] Yeah.
[1223] Like that kind of – It's a Disney game, right?
[1224] It is.
[1225] It's a Disney interactive game.
[1226] On a Nintendo platform, no less.
[1227] Two companies should see my goddamn reflection in that thing.
[1228] It doesn't have any of that.
[1229] That's a shame.
[1230] Yeah.
[1231] That's unfortunate.
[1232] Not the Aladdin I was looking for, huh?
[1233] No. Genesis Aladdin.
[1234] It is not specified.
[1235] This is more Super NES Aladdin than Genesis Aladdin is what you're saying.
[1236] It is Aladdin of no size or shape.
[1237] That's a shame.
[1238] Yeah, it was.
[1239] This is not DuckTales.
[1240] I'm just going to stick to Castle of Illusion then.
[1241] I'm partial to the Magical Quest on the Super NES.
[1242] Yeah, you would.
[1243] Yeah.
[1244] How do we feel about Mickey Mania?
[1245] I don't remember that one.
[1246] It's funny.
[1247] Mickey Mousecapade?
[1248] No, it was for the Genesis.
[1249] Mickey Mania?
[1250] Pretty sure it was.
[1251] It's Castle of Illusion and World of Illusion.
[1252] Mickey Mousecapade.
[1253] Magical Quest.
[1254] Mickey Mania.
[1255] What was that?
[1256] That was for the SES.
[1257] It's a match -three puzzle game.
[1258] I feel like Disney's had some good games.
[1259] Yeah, for sure.
[1260] Also known as Mickey's Wild Adventure on the PlayStation.
[1261] I don't know.
[1262] 2D thing.
[1263] I was actually kind of...
[1264] For some reason, I'm looking forward to it.
[1265] There are moments.
[1266] There are admittedly moments, and they do some stuff thematically that's kind of interesting.
[1267] It's just that playing that game is no kind of fun.
[1268] What is the roster like?
[1269] I mean, is this literally a Kingdom Hearts scenario of, like, every major character of every movie?
[1270] It is no major character.
[1271] It is all minor.
[1272] Well, they squeeze them in there in a weird way.
[1273] Like, even trying to explain what this game is about is just a fucking chore, because it's like...
[1274] Mickey's in his house and then he goes – like a mirror in his house turns – Saw that intro movie.
[1275] Yeah, like watching the intro.
[1276] You remember the intro movie.
[1277] It's like barely.
[1278] Yeah, there's this lengthy thing where there's this – he goes through a mirror and then he ends up in this wizard's house and then this wizard is using paint and thinner to create this world on his art desk or whatever.
[1279] He's basically making like a Warhammer miniatures.
[1280] Yeah, he's making Warhammer miniatures and then he leaves and then Mickey fucks it up and then Mickey goes back and then Mickey gets sucked into the – Like 50 years later or something.
[1281] Yeah, like yeah.
[1282] 50 years in time passes and then Mickey gets sucked back through the mirror and then into the painting.
[1283] So it's – Well, he had fucked it up and like released the shadow or something, right?
[1284] It's a thing from Fable has invaded – Dark Mickey shows up and then – Does he actually show up?
[1285] I wouldn't doubt it.
[1286] Well, like that's why he – that's why Mickey is like drooping stuff the entire time is that he's got some of the thing in him and the thing's got some of it.
[1287] Mickey.
[1288] Mickey goes both ways is what I'm trying to say here.
[1289] Is Minnie in it?
[1290] I would just expect, like, voice work.
[1291] Like, having voice work for the characters.
[1292] How do they not at least get sound alikes?
[1293] If not, I mean, I guess you could see them not getting, like, the actual working actors that usually portray the characters.
[1294] Well, I guess, apparently, and I learned this, and at a certain point, like, I can't hold the game responsible for this, but I also kind of can't excuse it.
[1295] It's not relevant to the product, really.
[1296] The guy who normally does Mickey Mouse died.
[1297] Like, right around the time that they were starting to...
[1298] like do this game so which is a terrible shame but there have to be a lot of that's what i'm saying contingencies yeah there have to be people out there who do good mickey mouse voices or any of the characters in this sure not trying to belittle that man or his death but like i mean they found a good marty mcfly like there's got to be a good mickey mouse i have to assume that guy has not had not been doing mickey mouse up until his death and at some point i'd pass the torch to somebody I'm certain there is a vast network of Mickey Mouses.
[1299] Of Mickey's that Disney has at their employ.
[1300] Or Darth Vader satellites.
[1301] Yeah.
[1302] So it's just – it doesn't have – yeah, the platforming isn't that interesting.
[1303] There's some stuff about the story and how they kind of in a way framed like Mickey Mouse as the bad guy is kind of interesting.
[1304] Which he is, isn't he?
[1305] From that intro movie?
[1306] Yeah.
[1307] He absolutely – He is the bad guy.
[1308] He comes in there and he fucks everything up in this world and he's totally flagrant about his actions and then he wanders off and he is not deliberately – he doesn't know that he's fucking up this whole world and all this bad stuff is happening.
[1309] We rarely do.
[1310] But yeah, no. Everyone is a hero in their own story, right?
[1311] I feel like I need to go watch the Disney Christmas Carol just to wash away this conversation.
[1312] I didn't even play the game and I feel bad.
[1313] So that stuff's kind of – there's like one level that takes place.
[1314] I can't remember what it's called now.
[1315] Mickey Junk Mountain.
[1316] It's nothing – Is that where he discovers the epic Mickey?
[1317] No, it's nothing but like – See if you can get to the top of Mickey Junk Mountain and then slide all the way down.
[1318] I don't want to.
[1319] I don't want to.
[1320] It's all Mickey Mouse trash.
[1321] It's all like detritus from Mickey Mouse from 50 years of Mickey Mouse merchandising.
[1322] Wow, it's like old commentary.
[1323] It's absolutely Warren Spector's commentary on – It sounds kind of dark.
[1324] But it's also – Not a good level.
[1325] Well, it's also bullshit because Epic Mickey is a piece of Mickey Mouse advertising and marketing.
[1326] Is it on there?
[1327] What?
[1328] Is Epic Mickey on the file?
[1329] No, not quite that level of self -awareness.
[1330] But yeah, Epic Mickey.
[1331] Disappointing.
[1332] It's unfortunate.
[1333] Real quick, just – But also I feel like a victim of the PR cycle leading up to it.
[1334] Overpromoted.
[1335] If that game had just come out, it could have been like, oh, there's some interesting stuff that they do here with this.
[1336] Like the gameplay is not great, but there's this part.
[1337] But like saying like War Inspector, classic.
[1338] designer, revered designer coming back after the lengthy absence and here's going to be his...
[1339] Well, it was the dark Mickey, like the adult Mickey Mouse game.
[1340] It's going to be like the serious Mickey Mouse game.
[1341] That's the part that seems disappointing to me. It's like there's nothing there for adults.
[1342] It's not good for kids.
[1343] It's not good enough for adults.
[1344] How's the 2D platforming just because they showed a level of that at E3?
[1345] Increasingly annoying.
[1346] Because it's...
[1347] They use it as...
[1348] as basically the portal between one area and another.
[1349] So the game is basically laid out like Disneyland.
[1350] There's the entrance area, so literally the buildings at Disneyland are there.
[1351] There's the main street, but everything's gone dark.
[1352] So they call it Mean Street.
[1353] Oh, no. And they have alternate names of all of the various discrete lands of Disneyland.
[1354] Tomorrowland.
[1355] And you'll go to...
[1356] Tomorrowland, like Bone Marrow, because Bone Marrow's scary, right?
[1357] Gross.
[1358] Is that what they call it?
[1359] It's not called that.
[1360] It's World of Tomorrow, I think.
[1361] I can't remember.
[1362] A lot of them are super lazy, but they are identifiable.
[1363] Actually, the Tomorrowland level is where one of the cooler things happens involving Tron and Space Mountain.
[1364] Oh, Space Mountain in it?
[1365] Yeah.
[1366] Ever tell you they turn the lights on inside Space Mountain because there was a problem?
[1367] Everyone has told that story, and it looks crazy.
[1368] There's a rail this close to your face.
[1369] If you turn your face slightly to the left, you will lose your nose.
[1370] It was weird because the weird part was the scalp that was just hanging off.
[1371] That kind of freaked me out.
[1372] That's just the janitor's collectos.
[1373] Oh, okay.
[1374] Just pin them up there.
[1375] They never see them.
[1376] Oh, God.
[1377] The lights are on.
[1378] No, the janitors are actually just natives from Jungle Cruise.
[1379] That's offensive.
[1380] They collect scalps.
[1381] So there's like 17 -year -old out -of -work kids from Florida, or I guess California here.
[1382] Not out of work.
[1383] They're janitors.
[1384] Yeah, I guess not.
[1385] Disneyland is weird.
[1386] Disney World is where it's at.
[1387] Yeah.
[1388] Right?
[1389] I've never been to Disneyland.
[1390] I've never been to Disney World.
[1391] Yeah.
[1392] We should cross.
[1393] We should have had this conversation.
[1394] I'm really interested in – Oh, really?
[1395] Isn't there some big soda machine with a bunch of different – Flavors of Soda in Epcot Center.
[1396] That I would be interested in.
[1397] We could also go to Atlanta and see one of those.
[1398] Let's go to Woodland.
[1399] I also got a lengthy email from someone who lived in Atlanta talking all about the heyday of Freaknik.
[1400] Multiple things to do in Atlanta.
[1401] What's the golf ball at Epcot Center?
[1402] What's the actual name of the ride inside the golf ball?
[1403] Yeah, Epcot Center.
[1404] It's like the history of the world.
[1405] It's the history of the universe.
[1406] Dude, yeah.
[1407] They show the Gutenberg printing press and all that stuff.
[1408] That was my favorite ride at Disney World.
[1409] That's a weird one, too.
[1410] Because you learn stuff.
[1411] Well, because they really take you around way longer than you think you could possibly go inside that little ball.
[1412] Yeah.
[1413] You're on that thing for a long time.
[1414] I don't know how they fit it in there.
[1415] You're basically traveling through the history of information.
[1416] The geodesic dome thing.
[1417] I always liked Epcot Center.
[1418] Not the pavilions, but more like the future stuff, the technology.
[1419] Yeah.
[1420] I've just never been to the state of Florida.
[1421] I consider that a big win.
[1422] But that's the thing.
[1423] They have Waffle House.
[1424] Generally speaking.
[1425] I've been to Waffle House outside of Florida.
[1426] Really, Disney World is the only thing they have in Florida that they don't have.
[1427] And again, even that, I feel like I would rather go to Tokyo to get the...
[1428] Big ass Disney World is not really – it's almost like the Vatican.
[1429] It's like a police state inside of Florida.
[1430] Speaking of which, they just had their first murder in Celebration Florida, which is the Disney -run like fake suburbs.
[1431] You guys know about Celebration Florida?
[1432] Is that where the workers live?
[1433] It's like this 12 ,000 -person community that they built to basically be like 50s idealized suburban America.
[1434] Wait, what?
[1435] For a – What the hell?
[1436] It's like they – it is – the entire thing is owned, lock and key, by Disney.
[1437] Is that how like Irvine is owned by the Irvine Corporation or whatever?
[1438] I think it's like more than that.
[1439] Like they hand – There is not a – like Disney handles the power in the mail and like shit like that.
[1440] Oh, God.
[1441] So it's – yeah, it's crazy.
[1442] Sounds like the worst kind of like – what's it called?
[1443] The planning committee, the – what's the thing you have to agree to before you can put like a basketball – Homeowners Association.
[1444] Yeah, it sounds like – It's like having the worst homeowners association possible.
[1445] Yeah, absolutely.
[1446] Absolutely.
[1447] Apparently, it's been around for 10, 15 years or something.
[1448] They had their first murder.
[1449] Murder?
[1450] They had murder.
[1451] Intent.
[1452] Most foul.
[1453] Yes, murder most foul.
[1454] Sounds like the next game coming out of Disney Interactive.
[1455] I would write a mystery novel about a murder in Celebration.
[1456] Totally.
[1457] Unsolved.
[1458] Oh, no. It's a mystery.
[1459] Did they find a big white glove with four fingers saying there's a killer on the loose?
[1460] I'm saying that a killer walks among us in Celebration, Florida.
[1461] In high school, I wanted to go to Celebration so bad.
[1462] It's been around that long, you said?
[1463] 12 years?
[1464] I remember senior year of high school being completely obsessed with Celebration, Florida.
[1465] And they were like, Opening it up around then.
[1466] I should not make light of murder.
[1467] If somebody really has been killed.
[1468] But we can make a little bit of light of that.
[1469] It's okay.
[1470] It's just Florida.
[1471] I'm just surprised that it got out.
[1472] You've heard about this murder.
[1473] State information control didn't kick in.
[1474] All the witnesses have disappeared and those people never existed.
[1475] We've always been at war with Oceana.
[1476] Disney wants to find the murderer.
[1477] I've gone to Disney World a bunch of times.
[1478] And there was always a separation between Florida and Disney.
[1479] Like you couldn't even tell you're in Florida.
[1480] Except for the heat.
[1481] Like once you enter the Disney, the Orlando zone, it ceases to be Florida.
[1482] Totally.
[1483] Literally like – It's an insane track of land that they own like just smack dab in the middle of Florida.
[1484] There are very few accents.
[1485] You don't like encounter that kind of Floridian like weird accent.
[1486] Like everything is so removed.
[1487] It is like – And that's why I think I kind of enjoyed going there even as I got older.
[1488] It was like, this shouldn't exist anywhere.
[1489] It's like going to space.
[1490] This is as close as I can get to going to space.
[1491] It's kind of...
[1492] It's absurd.
[1493] Everything is so weird here.
[1494] Well, I mean, yeah.
[1495] That whole thing, celebration included, that is just the will of man. That's the only reason this exists is that some guys said, we want to make this happen.
[1496] Cast members got together and made it so.
[1497] I was totally just thinking Rapture.
[1498] This murder is the first of many.
[1499] This is the fall of celebration.
[1500] Somebody got their version of Adam or something or became sentient.
[1501] See, that's how they should set Epic Mickey 2.
[1502] is in the celebration yeah it's all said in celebration there's been a murder it's like they got their hands on caffeine finally and now they're going to ape shit that's right somebody brought in sugar yeah yes exactly um no i i would love to go to for as much as i've heard about i'd love to go to I wanted to say the underground.
[1503] It's just that it's in Florida.
[1504] But, like, you can't think of it like that.
[1505] No, no, I'm just saying, like, it's...
[1506] It's so hot, you have no idea.
[1507] Not even the cultural part of it, because that's not the part.
[1508] It's the fact that it's in Florida.
[1509] Like, it's humid?
[1510] Yeah, it's the climate.
[1511] Did you guys go to the Atlanta E3s?
[1512] Yeah.
[1513] Remember that?
[1514] Yeah.
[1515] It's worse than that.
[1516] I did not.
[1517] What about super humid Tokyo?
[1518] It's kind of like that.
[1519] It can get like that.
[1520] I did go to Atlanta in the summer one time.
[1521] It was like that.
[1522] But you're inside those rides which are like the air conditioning bill alone at Disney World must be ridiculous.
[1523] Between rides.
[1524] There's so many rides.
[1525] It's huge.
[1526] They're just burning corpses to fuel those fires to keep the air conditioning.
[1527] I want to see the secret underground Disney like catacombs because you always hear those weird like they drive many golf carts around there and there and like just kind of like.
[1528] cast members getting changed.
[1529] Nobody can ever see you get changed, right?
[1530] Like the Disney law.
[1531] And you can't wear earrings.
[1532] It's so weird.
[1533] You have to be multicultural.
[1534] You must bow five times to the statue every day.
[1535] They know.
[1536] It's almost one of those things where there are no ex -cast members.
[1537] There's nobody who ever says I used to be a cast member.
[1538] They don't exist.
[1539] You don't retire.
[1540] No, it's like an alcoholic.
[1541] It's like I'm not drinking, but I am always an alcoholic.
[1542] It's like, well, I don't work for Disney anymore, but I'm still a cast member.
[1543] At heart.
[1544] I'm still a part of the family.
[1545] I'm just out here spreading the message.
[1546] I'm on my mission.
[1547] That's right.
[1548] Sleeper agents that will just get triggered.
[1549] Yeah, I don't know.
[1550] Exactly.
[1551] They'll play the Mickey Mouse.
[1552] Club theme song.
[1553] Shoot up.
[1554] M -I -C.
[1555] And then, yeah.
[1556] Tell me what the letters mean.
[1557] What does M -I -C -K -U -I spell?
[1558] Tell me. What the fuck does it mean?
[1559] Their eyes dilate and then they just pull a gun out of nowhere.
[1560] Ozzie Smith in it.
[1561] Anyway.
[1562] How do we...
[1563] Oh, Epic Mickey.
[1564] Epic Mickey.
[1565] Yeah, it's a bummer.
[1566] And it's got some moments, but it's mostly just not very good.
[1567] What I do like, though, is that Need for Speed Hot Pursuit.
[1568] My copy arrived today.
[1569] That game's awesome.
[1570] That game is pretty good.
[1571] You've played a fair amount of it.
[1572] I've played a lot of that.
[1573] I noticed.
[1574] I'm the only one, apparently.
[1575] I've got to the point where even Jeff has not participated in the events that I'm doing now.
[1576] I'm on you.
[1577] I'm on you.
[1578] It's me and you and...
[1579] Justin.
[1580] Justin and Charlie from 2K.
[1581] I don't have Charlie.
[1582] Dude, Charlie's times mock me, man. He is a...
[1583] Jared on the ones that he chooses to play.
[1584] He is my...
[1585] Are you a racer or a cop?
[1586] You know, I was hardcore cop for my first stretch with that game.
[1587] So I'm playing this game pretty well after it came out and after a lot of people have already played.
[1588] A lot of people on my friends list playing that game.
[1589] Playing or have played?
[1590] Or have played.
[1591] Yeah, same with me. Well, it's only been like two specific days that I've actually put that game in and played it.
[1592] But on those two days, I've played it a lot.
[1593] So in both occasions, I don't think there's been anyone actively online.
[1594] But because a bunch of people played it and played it a fair amount, there's my auto log.
[1595] It's all full up, which is awesome.
[1596] Like the way that that thing works when you have – the way that thing works when it works.
[1597] is awesome the the fact that it incorporates you know any sort of progress like because i was just going through just the uh the career mode stuff specifically it's kind of a pain in the ass the way you have to like move around the map and it's like well just give me a big fucking list of this stuff instead of like you have one of two gold medals here it's like well is that because i haven't done the event yet or oh no i've done the event and it's like all right yeah it's just not the clearest and i found that like wait if i just go to the auto log This is the fastest way to just burn through events that I hadn't done yet.
[1598] It'll typically present a couple of events that you haven't done on that list.
[1599] Okay, shit.
[1600] All I would do there is just scroll through.
[1601] Okay, well, here's the top ten players on your friends list.
[1602] I'm like, okay, I'm not on there.
[1603] I haven't done this event yet.
[1604] Go.
[1605] Start doing that.
[1606] And then I eventually started hitting the point where it was like only one or two people had done an event.
[1607] So I'm like, I don't really care so much.
[1608] But by integrating the leaderboard stuff with the campaign stuff, I felt like made both of the ends of it far more compelling because it's like, well, even if I don't beat everyone's score, I'm still getting career progress for it or vice versa.
[1609] So there's like – they've figured out how to just make it like any sort of progress, any sort of – sense of completion that you can get from this, you will.
[1610] It feels meaningful.
[1611] It's just constant feedback, just like you're constantly moving forward.
[1612] Yeah, it's just like you went up, like either you got more points, so your level is going up, or you beat this guy's best time.
[1613] So eat it.
[1614] So eat it.
[1615] Post it on your wall.
[1616] Post everything on your wall.
[1617] Facebook wall?
[1618] No, I turned off all the Facebook.
[1619] Does it have any of that stuff?
[1620] Because I never actually saw any integration.
[1621] Does it have any of that stuff?
[1622] I know I just turned it off on the Twitter Twitter end.
[1623] I just went on to, I don't know if I, I hadn't, I hadn't realized this.
[1624] You can like deny through the Twitter .com interface.
[1625] You can, you can see everything that you have allowed access to your, your Twitter account in the past.
[1626] Some shit on there.
[1627] I don't remember saying okay too.
[1628] So I'm like, all right, time to turn off all of these games that I'm never going to play again, that I don't want to know my Twitter stuff.
[1629] I don't need to, like, now that Bizarre Creations is going down, I don't know that I need it.
[1630] Yeah, exactly.
[1631] I don't need Blurred.
[1632] Uncharted 2.
[1633] Creeping out of the woodwork.
[1634] I don't know if I still suck at racing games.
[1635] Like, I think I'm doing pretty well with this.
[1636] Yeah, you're not doing bad.
[1637] The amount of randomness that you're subjected to in terms of just, like, when passersby will appear and stuff like that.
[1638] Like oncoming traffic?
[1639] Like, yeah, they're just...
[1640] It feels a little more than coincidental sometimes.
[1641] I don't think it's random.
[1642] I was thinking about that.
[1643] They have an algorithm.
[1644] They must have an algorithm that's like, okay, you're going to be sliding around this turn, so we're going to put a bar right here.
[1645] There are specific instances of like, you know, there's a lot of shortcuts off of the courses.
[1646] And the AI, especially in like the, what is it, the single pursuit ones?
[1647] Interceptor?
[1648] Interceptor.
[1649] Yeah, so in the interceptors, the AI loves to just jet off those shortcuts.
[1650] We got a moment's notice.
[1651] I can't remember how many times.
[1652] Like the AI will swerve onto the shortcut.
[1653] I will like bust a slide into the shortcut.
[1654] Some like pickup truck will just happen to be coming around the corner at the exact moment for me to plow like headfirst into it.
[1655] It's always the way it makes it.
[1656] Going into the shortcut.
[1657] Like it just seems to happen.
[1658] They must have developed some kind of science to make that trickier than – Like it's not just me, right?
[1659] Like you guys ran into that too?
[1660] Yeah, but it's – I feel like it's – Burnout Paradise did that.
[1661] I felt like it was doing that.
[1662] They put that truck like where – your unmodified trajectory will put you i feel like they are they are still allowing you enough time to to like move out of that situation but it's sort of like if you don't do anything about the direction that you're moving and you are going to run into this obstacle that ostensibly was not there a few seconds earlier right but you know keep you on your toes man I also moved a lot closer to my TV.
[1663] I moved my couch up.
[1664] I moved my couch up.
[1665] Actually, no, I moved my couch up for, well, just because I was thinking about like, I wonder how far I should be for my TV.
[1666] Let's go ask the internet.
[1667] And it's like, you should be a lot closer.
[1668] I'm like, all right, I'll get up in here.
[1669] So I'm fucking.
[1670] There's like a face full of TV.
[1671] I have a fat, it's a 46 inch TV and I've got a fat face full of TV.
[1672] That's what I've got.
[1673] What's the optimal distance?
[1674] Like five feet.
[1675] What?
[1676] What?
[1677] Oh, my God.
[1678] Crazy close.
[1679] I'm like eight feet from mud.
[1680] I'm like four feet from my 50 inch or whatever it is.
[1681] Yeah, it was 52.
[1682] No, a Kinect is telling you.
[1683] It's 50.
[1684] Yeah, I know.
[1685] I know.
[1686] Well, that was the thing is I had the couch moved like pretty much all the way to the back of the room for Kinect.
[1687] So what have you now realized you're not playing Kinect anymore?
[1688] Well, no, I had moved it specifically to play a Kinect game.
[1689] And you're like, I'm not.
[1690] I played a little Kinect.
[1691] I can move this back now.
[1692] I played a little Kinectimals.
[1693] Yeah.
[1694] I can move my couch back.
[1695] Yeah, yeah.
[1696] And so I was like, I move my couch back and I'm like, is this really where I want my couch?
[1697] Now there's like, now there's literally like between the couch and the coffee table, there's like maybe a foot and then there's like six inches between the coffee table and the entertainment center.
[1698] It is right up on there.
[1699] It does seem incredibly close.
[1700] Although like once I started playing Assassin's Creed again from there, I'm like, whoa!
[1701] Anzio's huge.
[1702] I'd really notice the frame rate problems a lot more easily now.
[1703] Huh.
[1704] Game's a little stuttery.
[1705] You think?
[1706] Assassin's Creed Brotherhood?
[1707] Maybe I should get closer.
[1708] Absolutely.
[1709] Absolutely.
[1710] It's got the crazy constant pop -in thing.
[1711] It does that quite a lot.
[1712] It's okay.
[1713] But it definitely had me thinking more about another generation of hardware as I was playing some Brotherhood this weekend.
[1714] Saying it's time?
[1715] Yeah.
[1716] It's always that question of we're going to start another generation of hardware.
[1717] What is it that we can really improve?
[1718] What is it that we're going to make better with faster hardware?
[1719] And this is one of the cases where it's like, well, I don't need it to necessarily look better.
[1720] It's run smoother.
[1721] But yeah, I'd like it if all the complicated shit this thing is doing would allow it to also still have.
[1722] And I want to reiterate again that Hot Pursuit looks so fucking good.
[1723] It does.
[1724] Hot damn.
[1725] Even if it's not 60 frames.
[1726] What it shows you at 30 is so fucking good.
[1727] You know this because we talked about this recently.
[1728] What's the hardware in that 360 now?
[1729] Oh, man. Is it a generation and a half old or something?
[1730] No, it's older than that.
[1731] It came out in 05, which means that they started speccing it out.
[1732] 9800 or something crazy?
[1733] 203.
[1734] Yeah.
[1735] So you should really just be pissed off at how haphazard your PC games are.
[1736] If this is what three -generation old hardware is.
[1737] It was like the Half -Life 2 Doom card generation, wasn't it?
[1738] Will said it was like a Radeon 9800 -ish, 9700 era.
[1739] That's old.
[1740] Yeah, it is.
[1741] Very old.
[1742] Two megabytes of RAM.
[1743] It's like a DX9 chip, I believe.
[1744] Or is it 8?
[1745] I can't remember.
[1746] So they're doing amazing things on that closed platform.
[1747] Well, it is the closed platform.
[1748] It is being able to write directly to it.
[1749] I just don't want to put all those games once the next generation comes out.
[1750] I'm running out of, like, clean off that shelf and start over.
[1751] It's okay.
[1752] The next one will just all be digital.
[1753] You're not going to need boxes for anything.
[1754] Yeah, that's kind of what I hope with the next platform is that we finally get, like, bigger standard hard drives.
[1755] What do you think?
[1756] Like, 500 out of the box?
[1757] Does that seem realistic?
[1758] I think at this point, yeah, you ship like a 500 with a 1 terabyte model also.
[1759] We've already reached the point where it would probably be more expensive to get the 500 gigabyte hard drive than it would be to get the terabyte.
[1760] Yeah, depending on the size of the drive.
[1761] Your laptop sizes or whatever.
[1762] Yeah, I don't know.
[1763] Maybe you do a 1 terabyte big drive and then a smaller SSD.
[1764] for fast access stuff for faster cash stuff i don't know i would like to see a common base yeah i hope i hope they don't do that because i guess it's one of those you know it's like the optional xbox hard drive which i guess at this point is no longer no longer well you could use a usb device i suppose but Yeah, I hope they don't do that fast.
[1765] I hope it's just a size difference.
[1766] I'd like to see online profiles.
[1767] No, I'm saying both in the same box.
[1768] You're saying the port.
[1769] I'm not saying get a small.
[1770] I'm saying like maybe they put an internal.
[1771] At some point, that's just way too expensive.
[1772] That's crazy.
[1773] They would never do it.
[1774] That is crazy talk.
[1775] Yeah, you know, you get your big drive for your media and you're kind of not in stuff that doesn't necessarily need to be accessed nonstop.
[1776] And then you've got your smaller kind of almost like cash drive or something.
[1777] They're going for an all -digital platform.
[1778] They want to give you the platform to buy as much stuff as possible.
[1779] So they're going to have you running your games off of the mass storage.
[1780] That's how I would expect it to happen.
[1781] Yeah.
[1782] I want to be able to come into the office and download my profile.
[1783] Oh, I want my saves to come with me. In the cloud?
[1784] I want my saves in the cloud.
[1785] I want my saves in the cloud so bad.
[1786] That would be great.
[1787] Because issues with saves moving around is...
[1788] Also, like USB memory cards.
[1789] I adjusted to moving my profile around on a USB stick.
[1790] I don't entirely mind that.
[1791] I think it seems a little archaic to me. I mean, yeah, it's like we've been bringing saves to work forever.
[1792] Right, that's true.
[1793] We always had to have some sort of card of something.
[1794] Microsoft has by far the best implementation of that right now.
[1795] But, yeah, even theirs is...
[1796] It just seems weird.
[1797] There are parts about it that I really like, but then there are times when it's like, oh, I just want to boot up the GBTNT account at home and not have to fucking re -recover it to this console or anything.
[1798] It's just like, I just turn it on and then there is that profile and then I can go in there and I can change stuff.
[1799] I can add friends.
[1800] I can do whatever I need to do.
[1801] I really hope Sony figures that stuff out in the next PlayStation.
[1802] Yeah.
[1803] If there is an Xbox.
[1804] Come on.
[1805] Like just some of the profile and save management in that thing is so inconsistent and hard to keep track of.
[1806] Yeah.
[1807] Like I was trying to review Dead Nation last week and it locks your save file to the device that it's saved on.
[1808] Which meant.
[1809] There's no good reason.
[1810] Which meant that I could have either.
[1811] There's no good reason.
[1812] I could either carry that PS3 home every night to play it or I could just only play it in the office.
[1813] Gran Turismo did the same thing.
[1814] I can understand since that system lets you upload saves to the internet and you can just download saves and use them.
[1815] Yeah, but that's another thing they should have fixed.
[1816] Or also, yes, who cares?
[1817] What does it matter if I'm downloading someone else's...
[1818] Even to the trophy system, it doesn't seem like it matters.
[1819] You should always be able to...
[1820] Although, again, there are games on the 360 that do that.
[1821] Randomly, I can never move my dead or alive paradise.
[1822] because those are locked.
[1823] Damn it.
[1824] I know.
[1825] Those are locked to the thing.
[1826] I want to say I think Viva Pinata locks your save file to the device.
[1827] It's baffling.
[1828] It is.
[1829] It's baffling.
[1830] It sucks.
[1831] Diskless.
[1832] Baffled.
[1833] No more disks.
[1834] Who are you calling diskless?
[1835] Diskless.
[1836] All right.
[1837] This man, yes, this man has no disk.
[1838] You don't think it's too small, do you?
[1839] You don't think people are going to drive by and not see the sign?
[1840] She's going to start quoting this.
[1841] You already started.
[1842] I was going to say start.
[1843] You already did.
[1844] All right.
[1845] You guys want to talk about some news?
[1846] Yes.
[1847] A little bit of news?
[1848] Yes.
[1849] Newsy news?
[1850] Guys, they're going to reboot Tomb Raider.
[1851] We're good.
[1852] Reboot.
[1853] Finally.
[1854] How many boots has it gone through?
[1855] I believe three.
[1856] Yeah, that's the thing.
[1857] You contend this has happened before.
[1858] I feel like they've just been making Tomb Raider games.
[1859] When they had that weird urban style game or whatever.
[1860] Was that Angel of Darkness?
[1861] So Angel of Darkness was the last core game and it was the PS2 game and it was awful.
[1862] That's the one that was delayed forever.
[1863] Yeah, that was the one that took forever to come out and came out and was completely busted.
[1864] But that was supposed to be like, it's a new beginning for Lara Croft.
[1865] But it was a miserable failure.
[1866] And then they gave it all to Crystal D. And they said, all right, you guys seem like you know how to make games unlike these core guys.
[1867] Maybe you can help us out.
[1868] And that was Legend?
[1869] The first one was Legend.
[1870] And then they also did Underworld.
[1871] And then they also did...
[1872] which was a remake.
[1873] I thought Underworld was another reboot.
[1874] Am I wrong?
[1875] Was that another, like, we're remet?
[1876] Like, this is...
[1877] Yeah, kind of.
[1878] We're coming back.
[1879] This is Lara Croft.
[1880] I thought it was just another legend.
[1881] I thought they just made more of that.
[1882] I just bought Underworld for $10.
[1883] Should I open it?
[1884] I thought it was another kind of, like, here's another series of Lara Croft game.
[1885] Like, we've gone back and we've...
[1886] This is all new for you.
[1887] See, I thought Legend was that, and then that was mildly successful, so they made more of that.
[1888] I could be wrong.
[1889] I'm not the biggest Lara Croft fan.
[1890] I'm not either.
[1891] I don't know why we're talking about this.
[1892] Guardian is a...
[1893] Does that count as a reboot?
[1894] No. No, because Guardian is kind of using the aesthetic styles that they established.
[1895] Anyway, the Crystal Dynamics style.
[1896] Forget about that.
[1897] They're making a new one, and this one is definitively a reboot.
[1898] You know how you know?
[1899] Because it's just called Tomb Raider.
[1900] This is not just called Tomb Raider.
[1901] It's just called Tomb Raider.
[1902] That's not a definitive reboot.
[1903] A definitive reboot would be the Tomb Raider.
[1904] Yeah.
[1905] All right.
[1906] Well, maybe.
[1907] So when they did the Crystal D reboot, they started – It's part of the Simple 2000 series.
[1908] They started slapping the – like everything was not just Tomb Raider.
[1909] It was Lara Croft, Tomb Raider.
[1910] anniversary like that's the technical name of all those games is the video is Lara Croft Tomb Raider Legend and Lara Croft Tomb Raider anniversary so in the announcement of this reboot which I have not seen anything about or heard it's gonna be on the cover of the January Game Informer so I don't think they've actually even officially oh this is like one of those earlies It's going to have Lara Croft, a pretty brown haired girl, and she's going to go on adventures.
[1911] Size A. That's the reboot.
[1912] But it seems like it looks like they've dispensed with all that like British aristocratic background and all that stuff.
[1913] Really?
[1914] It seemed like that.
[1915] Well, it's like, you know, she'll have that stuff.
[1916] But, you know, she's she's always been a little more rough and tumble than that.
[1917] And they've kind of.
[1918] That's how the movies painted her.
[1919] I thought that was the fun part, though.
[1920] She's this kind of rich girl.
[1921] I don't think they're going to get away from that.
[1922] She's now a black woman from the streets.
[1923] It's Urban Chaos 2, actually.
[1924] Where did the news story come out?
[1925] Came in for her.
[1926] They revealed the cover.
[1927] There was a bunch of leaked stuff kind of a while ago now.
[1928] That was pointing at this being some kind of open world, almost survival based game or something.
[1929] So it might, gameplay wise, it could be fairly different from what you might expect.
[1930] Though at the same time, I would expect that you will see some pistols being shot and perhaps a wall being climbed.
[1931] Perhaps some traversal style gameplay and some shimmying in a sideways fashion.
[1932] Why would you do that?
[1933] Because you have to, until there's room.
[1934] Okay.
[1935] You have to get over it until there's room.
[1936] Suggesting that I should shimmy sideways until there's room.
[1937] That is precisely what I'm suggesting.
[1938] And create pushing in your fever dream of a game?
[1939] No. Okay.
[1940] Rolling?
[1941] Yeah, you will roll out of the way of stuff.
[1942] Any tigers?
[1943] Will you roll out of the way of tigers?
[1944] I hope so.
[1945] You shoot a shark?
[1946] I hope so.
[1947] T -Rex?
[1948] I hope so.
[1949] Maybe it's just me, but I just feel like for the duration of the existence of Tomb Raider, they have been rebooting and reinventing.
[1950] Well, it's like they had those three or however many first batch of very well -liked Tomb Raider games.
[1951] Tomb Raider went two and three, and then there was...
[1952] When they started changing generations, they kind of lost their grip on what the fuck Tomb Raider was.
[1953] They've been struggling to get it back ever since.
[1954] It was by the time they hit three, where it was like, all right, your shit's kind of looking old now.
[1955] Other games...
[1956] There's a snowmobile.
[1957] Other games are doing this better.
[1958] And then they did Chronicles, which is the one that had pre -teen Lara Croft in it.
[1959] There's been a lot of Tomb Raider games.
[1960] Yeah.
[1961] A couple.
[1962] I think the only Tomb Raider game I liked was Legend or Underworld, whichever.
[1963] Legend was the first Crystal D game.
[1964] Yeah, that was good.
[1965] That was good.
[1966] I feel like those guys have been doing a fine job with handling that stuff.
[1967] But at the same time, I wouldn't necessarily want to play another one of those.
[1968] And it still felt like it was like, okay, you've gotten better.
[1969] You've made a competent game, which Core at a certain point had kind of just slipped away from doing.
[1970] Tell it to the life president.
[1971] Life president, these games are all the same.
[1972] So wait, who's doing this one?
[1973] Crystal.
[1974] It's still Crystal D. Jim Raider.
[1975] Yes, it is.
[1976] It's still Crystal Dynamics.
[1977] They lost me. I feel like all this shit is fucking up our database.
[1978] They're like all these reboots and kind of like, we're just going to call it the same name.
[1979] Like, stop.
[1980] No, no, no. That's why I'm asking for just a common courtesy.
[1981] Throw a the on the front of it.
[1982] Yeah, something.
[1983] Makes it easier for us.
[1984] Like poor Dave and Andy and all those guys have to be like, all right, now we've got to fucking do search again because we need to make sure when you type in Tomb Raider, the right one, the most popular one comes up.
[1985] And if you type in Sonic the Hedgehog, this will come up.
[1986] I just feel like it's making things more difficult.
[1987] I feel for you guys.
[1988] I'm rebooting Final Fantasy on my own, by the way.
[1989] Oh, finally.
[1990] The Final Fantasy.
[1991] It's actually called finally.
[1992] Actually, it's just called Final Fantasy, but we italicized final.
[1993] That's right.
[1994] Final Fantasy.
[1995] Final.
[1996] An underlined fantasy.
[1997] Fantasy.
[1998] Twisted Pixel has revealed their next game.
[1999] Comic Jumper.
[2000] No. The Rebooting Comic Jumper.
[2001] It's a sequel to a game that they already made, Splosion Man, called Ms. Splosion Man. All right.
[2002] Now, what's the difference between Splosion Man and Ms. Splosion Man, really?
[2003] She has a bone in her hair.
[2004] Wait.
[2005] She doesn't have hair.
[2006] Is that it?
[2007] That's it?
[2008] I came right out of town.
[2009] Didn't the hair get burned off?
[2010] I don't know if this was a direct quote, but I saw somewhere.
[2011] I think it was in our story that Splosion Man has a penis and Ms. Splosion Man has a vagina.
[2012] Yes, that was one of the interview – Is that a direct quote?
[2013] I believe Josh Baer said that.
[2014] So that is – there you go.
[2015] That is the difference.
[2016] She is pink and has a bow.
[2017] It seems like she has electric powers, too.
[2018] They did say that there would be new gameplay stuff.
[2019] It's not just a level pack.
[2020] Oh, my God.
[2021] I don't know if I can take any more of that game.
[2022] Exposure Man?
[2023] I feel like it's high.
[2024] Just imagine how much better they've gotten at their craft of making weird FMV.
[2025] Oh, jeez, yes.
[2026] But it's their best game.
[2027] Like, purely the game part.
[2028] Yeah, you're right.
[2029] You're right.
[2030] It totally is.
[2031] It's their best game.
[2032] It's a good game.
[2033] It's grueling.
[2034] Yeah.
[2035] Not as hard.
[2036] But it's grueling in a way that they could checkpoint.
[2037] away.
[2038] Yeah, yeah.
[2039] Like, the only time that Explosion Man made me go, like, alright, fuck this, I'm not playing this anymore, was when they would have those big, long, like, kind of escape sequences or something, where it's like, the lava's rising, you gotta get something, water, gotta get out of here.
[2040] There was a fair amount of memorization.
[2041] But there were, like, super long sequences, where if you just threw a checkpoint in, if you cut those in half, no more than that, just split them in half.
[2042] It would be so much less abusive feeling.
[2043] I played a little comic jumper a few, like maybe a month ago or something, and it's not a very good game.
[2044] Not much fun.
[2045] It's not very fun.
[2046] It's awesome, but yeah, the game part's not great.
[2047] No, yeah, the parts that aren't the game are fucking incredible.
[2048] Yep.
[2049] But they make you play their game.
[2050] At the end, you fight the final boss from Explosion Man. Oh.
[2051] Yeah.
[2052] Really?
[2053] Like, same fight.
[2054] You're just like, what?
[2055] I have to finish that game.
[2056] I'm on that last level.
[2057] It's just kind of petered out.
[2058] Ms. Explosion Man is kind of busted.
[2059] Anyways, I'm only critical because I love and I am excited for it.
[2060] I think that the fact that they're making a Ms. Explosion Man is hilarious.
[2061] That's pretty funny.
[2062] That is in and of itself a great gag.
[2063] And, yeah, I think it's their strongest game.
[2064] And to Jeff's point, they have absolutely, they are the best in class at dumb videos in modern videos.
[2065] Maybe they'll get Danny Trejo and really, really make this flourish.
[2066] Don't move your feet.
[2067] Give him the stick.
[2068] Broke the game.
[2069] Now I'll pick your face.
[2070] No, Danny Trejo.
[2071] Now it's just turned into a side of meat and fall out of the sky.
[2072] Please don't kill me. So you're not playing any of the StarCraft II patch beta stuff?
[2073] No. That's something you can opt into?
[2074] Tell me about this.
[2075] Paint me a picture.
[2076] How does this stuff work?
[2077] With World of Warcraft, you can download, you can get into these patched servers and play stuff ahead of time and help them beta test it.
[2078] Just know all your shit will be erased at any time.
[2079] Yeah, exactly.
[2080] With WoW and most other MMOs, they let you just kind of copy your character over to the public test realm.
[2081] Oh, so is that how it works?
[2082] I wasn't sure mechanically how you switch back and forth because you can switch back to the retail game.
[2083] Yeah, so you just kind of create a copy of your character.
[2084] In some cases, you can also just max level them or something like that.
[2085] depending on what they're testing or something.
[2086] I'm sure the pros effing love this because they can get on there and test a bunch of new builds.
[2087] Oh, yeah, before this.
[2088] Because, I mean, some of the changes they made are pretty profound.
[2089] I know you guys don't really care, but, like, a lot of testing goes.
[2090] You hurt me when you say that.
[2091] Observers are now 2575 instead of 50100.
[2092] Does that mean anything?
[2093] Oh, my God.
[2094] Really?
[2095] That is pretty major.
[2096] I can't believe they're doing that.
[2097] That's pretty major.
[2098] I know one of those numbers is different from the other.
[2099] Hallucination research has been reduced by 30 seconds.
[2100] That's pretty big.
[2101] I'm excited.
[2102] 30 seconds is a really long time.
[2103] I know, it usually takes like an hour for it to kick in for me. The Void Ray speed upgrade has been removed, but they now do an extra 20 % damage to massive targets.
[2104] That's a lot of percentage, too.
[2105] That is hot.
[2106] That is hot.
[2107] Anyway, it's cool that people can jump on here and start specking out new builds without actually having to worry about ladder competition and stuff like that.
[2108] Be the first to get on the block.
[2109] The other is all still subject to change.
[2110] In fact, one of the changes is already listed as this change is only for the beta period or something like that.
[2111] They made bunkers build faster, but they were like, this will revert back when it goes live.
[2112] I'm not even sure why.
[2113] That's probably because they just don't feel like patching it out of their public test version.
[2114] Maybe they already decided it's no good.
[2115] Or maybe it's one of those things where we need to do this step before we can get to this next part in this process.
[2116] Maybe.
[2117] So we just want to speed up how fast it takes us to get to this.
[2118] It saves us time.
[2119] It's possible.
[2120] The other big thing that's coming in this patch is like chat channels and stuff.
[2121] Like it's not just game changes here.
[2122] It's all the stuff.
[2123] Like Battle .net changes.
[2124] Yeah, it's all Battle .net stuff.
[2125] All the things that people whined about basically when the game came out.
[2126] They were like, oh, where did our IRC channels go?
[2127] Like they're in this.
[2128] Have there been any queues to play StarCraft 2 or is that strictly WoW?
[2129] Someone sent me a screenshot on Twitter that was of a Battle .net queue.
[2130] That looked all BattleNet -y.
[2131] Or StarCraft?
[2132] It didn't say StarCraft or WarCraft anywhere on it.
[2133] It just said it was a BattleNet -looking thing.
[2134] Fuck that.
[2135] And it just said, 8 hours, 52 minutes.
[2136] I'm like, what the fuck?
[2137] That's crazy talk.
[2138] Come on.
[2139] That's crazy talk.
[2140] That sounds insane.
[2141] I know that with Cataclysm coming out, I'm sure there will be queues again.
[2142] They had queues to reactivate accounts recently where people were waiting on the phone for four hours and stuff like that.
[2143] Like getting accounts up and running was apparently messed up over the weekend or something.
[2144] Do you have to do that over the phone?
[2145] I don't know.
[2146] What the hell?
[2147] I would hope that they would just expand out the servers and then shrink it back.
[2148] They should know they're going to get this big hit.
[2149] I assume that StarCraft and WoW exist on separate infrastructure.
[2150] I would hope so.
[2151] I hope.
[2152] But yeah, like I said, the screenshot was provided without context.
[2153] So I don't know what the person was trying to do.
[2154] Definitely no queue, no wait time, no nothing for StarCraft.
[2155] And every time I go on there, it always says there are at least like a million players on Battle .net at the moment.
[2156] So this is something you could just jump into.
[2157] You don't need to like qualify for a special beta.
[2158] In fact, the accounts have to be created before November 11th.
[2159] I'm not sure what the rationale is behind that.
[2160] So anyone that bought the game late or registered their account late.
[2161] It's not in.
[2162] It's only old players.
[2163] Okay.
[2164] Hmm.
[2165] All right.
[2166] All right.
[2167] That doesn't seem too bad, though.
[2168] Too much of a restriction.
[2169] Moving on, we've got a new Ghostbusters game being announced by Atari through the USA Today.
[2170] It's got a good subtitle, I think.
[2171] I like the subtitle.
[2172] Sanctum of Slime?
[2173] Yeah.
[2174] Is that the subtitle you were talking about?
[2175] That's what it's called.
[2176] That is the subtitle of it.
[2177] I just want to make sure that was the one.
[2178] Sanctum.
[2179] That's a good word.
[2180] So, yeah, they're making a follow -up to Ghostbusters, the video game.
[2181] Is this actually a follow -up to that?
[2182] It's a reboot.
[2183] I think the Ghostbusters.
[2184] The real Ghostbusters.
[2185] I think by follow -up they just mean like another one.
[2186] Also with the same license.
[2187] Yeah, okay.
[2188] Which happens to be Ghostbusters.
[2189] It's not a sequel.
[2190] It's not story consistent.
[2191] Picking up where Ghostbusters, the video game, picked up.
[2192] Yeah, I don't know.
[2193] This is not the fifth movie?
[2194] I don't know.
[2195] Well, I do know that none of the voice actors are returning, but I don't even know if their likenesses are.
[2196] It's downloadable, right?
[2197] It's a downloadable game.
[2198] It's an Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network game, and it's like a top -down dungeon crawler.
[2199] Isn't it like dual joystick?
[2200] Yeah, it looks like a dual joystick.
[2201] Kind of sounds awesome.
[2202] That could be hot.
[2203] That could be hot.
[2204] Like that top -down Ghostbusters arcade game that was garbage.
[2205] Well, not like that.
[2206] Except this could be good.
[2207] So not like that at all, I guess, except for the Ghostbusters part.
[2208] Not an arcade.
[2209] Well, an Xbox arcade.
[2210] You know, having not the voice actors return maybe would have made me sad until I played.
[2211] You're like, yeah, okay.
[2212] All right, let's try something else.
[2213] You know, they weren't terrible, but.
[2214] No. I'm willing to give somebody else a turn at bat at this point.
[2215] I bet there's no voice.
[2216] I'm wagering no, zero voice work.
[2217] You think?
[2218] In this one.
[2219] I bet there aren't even named characters.
[2220] I bet there are no stances or Venkmans in this.
[2221] I mean, when you turn around, it goes, Ghostbusters!
[2222] Jeff has an uncanny knack for being able to vocalize synthesized console game speech.
[2223] I spent a long time playing.
[2224] Your Joe Montana sports talk is pretty right on.
[2225] When you hit the space bar.
[2226] Ghostbusters.
[2227] Ghostbusters.
[2228] If you listen to it a certain way, it sounds aquatic, though.
[2229] I definitely get a little fish man. There's like a murloc thing going on.
[2230] But it's kind of accurate.
[2231] It's hard to emulate static.
[2232] Yeah.
[2233] It's kind of, but it's.
[2234] Oh, no, no. It's good.
[2235] It's good.
[2236] Yeah.
[2237] You know, despite.
[2238] Like, that was kind of the thing was the Ghostbusters game was just pure nostalgia bait.
[2239] Like, that's all that game was for was, you know, you like.
[2240] This movie called Ghostbusters, right?
[2241] And I was like, yeah, I do.
[2242] Here's a video game that's got the guys from Ghostbusters in it.
[2243] I was like, man, that's a bummer because I don't like this game at all.
[2244] Yeah, this is one of those like, okay, well now we have the license.
[2245] This looks like more of just a game.
[2246] Yeah.
[2247] Like a video game.
[2248] Dual joystick ghost catching sounds totally okay to me. Yeah, I feel like for the nature of the Ghostbusters weapons that a dual joystick setup would probably be...
[2249] Feel good?
[2250] It'd probably feel pretty good.
[2251] Feel pretty good?
[2252] Yeah.
[2253] Like the busting, it'll feel pretty good?
[2254] It's been known to make me feel good in the past.
[2255] Do you believe in magic?
[2256] See if it does.
[2257] Do you want a new drug?
[2258] I do.
[2259] I also want to go back in time.
[2260] Hell yeah.
[2261] No, I didn't have a segway.
[2262] I had no segways there.
[2263] Do you want to double back again?
[2264] I thought we were going back to the future.
[2265] And also back to the future is coming out now.
[2266] No. It's coming out in December.
[2267] That's soon.
[2268] It does not have a release date.
[2269] That's now.
[2270] That is now.
[2271] Wait a minute.
[2272] It's out now.
[2273] What?
[2274] That's not true.
[2275] Because it's December.
[2276] I'm going by release date logic of the publisher.
[2277] Did you guys see the new screenshots that came out for that?
[2278] No. One of which features match three gameplay.
[2279] Wonderful.
[2280] I don't know how to feel about that.
[2281] Are you matching garbage to put into the infusion?
[2282] You appear to be matching colored jewels, but I may be mistaken.
[2283] Flux capacitor.
[2284] Play some Bejeweled.
[2285] All right.
[2286] What, Marty McFly can't play Bejeweled?
[2287] Maybe Marty McFly invents Bejeweled back in 1950.
[2288] That seems like something that would be okay to insert into an adventure game.
[2289] Yeah, that's probably fine.
[2290] I don't know.
[2291] As long as Christopher Lloyd is there saying with the same piece of voiceover.
[2292] Marty!
[2293] Damn, damn.
[2294] Right.
[2295] Just over and over again.
[2296] Shut up!
[2297] Damn, double damn.
[2298] You guys seen the YouTube video they put up of their Marty McFly?
[2299] Yes.
[2300] It's magic.
[2301] That is a serious Marty McFly voice that I can do.
[2302] It was one of those things I saw that like, because this is before they had shown any gameplay.
[2303] Like, we have some character sketches and yeah, Chris Lloyd's on board and one of the screenwriters is on board.
[2304] The other Bob, not.
[2305] Bob Zemeckis.
[2306] What the hell's Tom F. Wilson doing?
[2307] I was like...
[2308] Maybe Biff is not involved in the storyline.
[2309] Who knows?
[2310] Maybe he is.
[2311] Oh, come now.
[2312] He's doing stand -up, isn't he?
[2313] Yeah, he's probably out with his guitar singing that song about what it's like to have been in Back to the Future and have that be your only recognizable thing.
[2314] Yeah, I don't know when Back to the Future is coming out.
[2315] There, Marty McFly is awesome, and hearing his voice was the first thing that made me go, okay, I'm allowing myself to be excited about this game.
[2316] Because that's a damn, damn good.
[2317] Are you not worried that it's going to end up about the same quality as the cartoon?
[2318] I think it will be remarkably better than the cartoon.
[2319] I have my hopes set at least there, that it will be way better than the cartoon, because the cartoon was pretty bad.
[2320] I'm expecting it to be about the quality of the Teen Wolf cartoon.
[2321] You know, that'll be good.
[2322] I'll be happy with that.
[2323] That wasn't even a news story.
[2324] That was just us talking about Back to the Future.
[2325] You said Back to the Future.
[2326] Actually, I just said I wanted to go back in time, and then you inferred a segue.
[2327] Got my hopes up.
[2328] Yeah, I don't know.
[2329] No release date for Back to the Future.
[2330] Just month.
[2331] Which is, I don't know.
[2332] That seems uncharacteristic for...
[2333] for telltale well usually they're about like here's our release date and then we will always hit that release date on the website they remember they announced the date for poker night like three days before it came out so that's true but that also seemed you're right i mean that still is that's consistent with the letter of the law they did announce a date and hit it um but even even that like tomorrow like like announcing it and then going like that i i have to chalk up to just I don't know.
[2334] Licensing craziness.
[2335] Yeah, possibly.
[2336] I don't know.
[2337] I'm not privy.
[2338] I want to know what's going on with Jurassic Park.
[2339] No, you don't.
[2340] I do.
[2341] I do too.
[2342] Oh, what the hell is that going to be?
[2343] It's a Unix terminal.
[2344] I can't.
[2345] Well, they kept saying when we were talking to the dudes at PAX, they were kind of saying like, yeah, this is going to be more your traditional adventure game like you know from us.
[2346] But Jurassic Park, we're going weird.
[2347] Whoa.
[2348] Oh, man. They're going somewhere outside of their comfort zone.
[2349] So it's a poker game.
[2350] Well, when the Telltale guys were here, they were like, yeah, Jurassic Park's pretty awesome.
[2351] So I'm kind of curious, too.
[2352] I just wonder what it'll look like.
[2353] Yeah.
[2354] Do you play as a dinosaur?
[2355] I hope so.
[2356] Clever girl.
[2357] Yes, you do.
[2358] Hold on to your butts.
[2359] You play as the clever girl.
[2360] You play as the butt.
[2361] You play a Samuel Jackman's butt.
[2362] Yep.
[2363] And you have to turn the generator back on and it's bejeweled.
[2364] With your butt?
[2365] It would be tough.
[2366] All right.
[2367] Let's talk about some new releases.
[2368] Unix.
[2369] I know this.
[2370] Anything else do I have to get here?
[2371] For Jurassic Park?
[2372] I was just waiting for the – what other quotes do we have to – Nature finds a way.
[2373] Nature finds a way.
[2374] Must go faster.
[2375] Must go faster.
[2376] Must go faster.
[2377] God creates man. Poor Jeff Goldblum.
[2378] What's he doing?
[2379] He's yelling at everything, dude.
[2380] Reboot the fly.
[2381] Oh, dude, fuck you.
[2382] Fuck you.
[2383] Fuck that movie.
[2384] The Fly.
[2385] The Fly's great.
[2386] What are you talking about?
[2387] Not when you see it when you're like seven.
[2388] Yeah, no. Yeah, that's exactly what I saw.
[2389] It's fucking great.
[2390] I agree.
[2391] No, I totally agree.
[2392] It's vicious.
[2393] If you're pulling teeth out of your mouth.
[2394] I refused to arm wrestle for like a decade.
[2395] Ah, it's so good.
[2396] After that.
[2397] Oh, and he starts pulling the fingernails off.
[2398] That happens to me. Then definitely don't watch Videodrome.
[2399] What if I wrestle a guy and my arm splits in half, too?
[2400] That could happen.
[2401] That could totally happen.
[2402] Then you have to put a shot into your head.
[2403] As a referee for wrist wrestling, Jeff knows a thing or two.
[2404] I know what he's going to do about the danger of wrist wrestling.
[2405] He's seen so many femurs in his life.
[2406] A femur from arm wrestling?
[2407] What?
[2408] A femur from arm wrestling?
[2409] Oh, yeah.
[2410] Oh, yeah.
[2411] A broken femur?
[2412] Oh, yeah.
[2413] A broken femur all over the place.
[2414] How does that happen?
[2415] You don't want to know.
[2416] It's like ankle wrestling as well?
[2417] It breaks so hard that it pops out of the leg.
[2418] What?
[2419] It's where the tension comes from.
[2420] That's where all of the arm wrestlers' strength actually comes from.
[2421] No, they don't actually.
[2422] From their legs.
[2423] It's all arms.
[2424] No, no, no, no. I mean, it's like that's where it comes out, but it starts at the legs.
[2425] I saw a video of a 14 -year -old girl arm wrestling.
[2426] I saw a video over the weekend.
[2427] I watched that same video.
[2428] I watched that with you.
[2429] I was disappointed by the lack of arm wrestling.
[2430] Was there another video of her brushing her teeth afterwards or something like that?
[2431] That's usually how those go.
[2432] It was on a subscription site.
[2433] It was on Japanese.
[2434] And then she just talked about World of Warcraft for a while.
[2435] You have to see the arm wrestling video that I saw over the weekend.
[2436] Which is?
[2437] The champion German arm wrestler.
[2438] who has got actual Popeye syndrome, where his right arm is, I swear to God, three to four times the size of his arm.
[2439] Is it an actual syndrome?
[2440] It was actually a genetic...
[2441] It began as a genetic condition, but then he just ran with it and became a champion arm wrestler.
[2442] Good on him, then.
[2443] Hey, if you say you have a condition that will make you Popeye, then I'm...
[2444] Point one.
[2445] Spinachitis.
[2446] Fucking stokes.
[2447] But only on one side.
[2448] Yeah, like spindly, like girly arm on the other side.
[2449] Yeah, I'll take half Popeye.
[2450] But the right arm, like, fucking huge.
[2451] Oh, man. Huge.
[2452] Like, especially the forearm.
[2453] I wish I was half Popeye.
[2454] Four arm.
[2455] What's the Popeye doing in your mind right now?
[2456] Robin Williams, though?
[2457] Gouge out one of my eyes like that.
[2458] He is eating spinach through a corncob pipe.
[2459] Oh, just shoving the whole thing in there, the can?
[2460] Yeah.
[2461] Vacuuming it through.
[2462] Did Popeye successfully convince you as a child that spinach tasted good?
[2463] No. Because the spinach he eats always looks disgusting.
[2464] They're boiled.
[2465] Because it's canned spinach.
[2466] Yeah, it's like the worst.
[2467] I like spinach now as an adult, but it has to be prepared in a good way, not just horribly canned.
[2468] Ugh.
[2469] Slimy.
[2470] Yeah, no. Goopy.
[2471] You want to do some greens?
[2472] That's the reaction I probably have.
[2473] The same one that Popeye has.
[2474] If I were to eat a can of raw -ass spinach, like mushy, I'd probably flip out, too.
[2475] My pipe would start flipping over.
[2476] Fuck!
[2477] Bust out of the spring that you've been somehow wrapped up inside of.
[2478] This is disgusting.
[2479] Why would you eat that?
[2480] Go punch a Jeep.
[2481] Our muscles start moving like pistons.
[2482] Yeah, then I turn all red and just start running around the level.
[2483] Don't punch Jeep.
[2484] You're going to need Jeep's help.
[2485] Tattoos start animating on their own.
[2486] Battleships start firing.
[2487] All right, new releases for this week.
[2488] Tron Evolution for the PC, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, Sony PlayStation Portable, and PlayStation 3.
[2489] Also out this week, Tron Evolution Battle Grids for the Nintendo Wii.
[2490] Completely separate game.
[2491] We're going to pick that up.
[2492] I imagine the PSP and the DS games have to be something weird, too.
[2493] Probably.
[2494] We're going to pick up a copy of that Wii game and see what it's all about.
[2495] Because the last time I saw it at E3, it looked interesting.
[2496] I saw it since then.
[2497] And I also thought, hey, that actually looks kind of good.
[2498] Because they just focus just on light cycles it seems.
[2499] Yeah, there's a lot of light cycle stuff.
[2500] Battle Grid.
[2501] Battle Grid.
[2502] Yogi Bear the video game.
[2503] I didn't know this was a movie until about this weekend.
[2504] This is a movie.
[2505] I've known about it for way too long and it's really – Neil Hamburger has had some interesting things to say about Yogi Bear the movie on Twitter.
[2506] I recommend you take a look at it.
[2507] I don't follow him.
[2508] My slow – yeah, known about it for too long.
[2509] Andy Daly is this comedic actor who's like a bit role in the movie.
[2510] Oh, he's been he's been talking about his involvement in it since like March, April, something like that.
[2511] I saw the trailer and I was like this weekend.
[2512] And was floored, amazed they could not find a good Yogi Bear impersonator.
[2513] It's Dan Aykroyd.
[2514] It's Dan Aykroyd.
[2515] It's terrible.
[2516] And Justin Timberlake, right?
[2517] So you don't think Dan Aykroyd's Yogi Bear is any good?
[2518] Not from the trailer.
[2519] Do you like it?
[2520] I think it's okay.
[2521] I think it's all right.
[2522] It does not sound like Yogi Bear.
[2523] I mean, the movie looks like an abortion, but I think that's not the part where they lose it.
[2524] Yeah, yeah, totally.
[2525] It doesn't sound like Yogi Bear.
[2526] He's got the tone, I think.
[2527] Exactly.
[2528] The rest of this looks like...
[2529] Atomic gold.
[2530] Deal breaker.
[2531] Who plays Ranger Smith?
[2532] Completely takes me out of the experience.
[2533] Who plays Ranger Smith?
[2534] Is it like Jason Lee?
[2535] No, no. No, no. It's the guy.
[2536] Oh, God.
[2537] Tip of my tongue.
[2538] Guy who was the main guy in Ed.
[2539] Mario Van Peebles.
[2540] Mario Van Peebles.
[2541] Thank you.
[2542] That would be a way better movie.
[2543] There we go, Ranger.
[2544] Ed?
[2545] I'm just – I'll pull it up here because I know – God damn it.
[2546] Matt LeBlanc.
[2547] It's Matt LeBlanc.
[2548] That's it.
[2549] Is it?
[2550] No. Oh.
[2551] I would probably say, like, you know, the dumb guy from Friends.
[2552] I can't remember which movie Ed was.
[2553] That was a baseball with the monkey, right?
[2554] That's a TV show, as the Ed that I am referring to.
[2555] Oh, all right.
[2556] Okay, by that, okay, your connection wasn't that unknown.
[2557] Isn't Jason Lee's not Ed?
[2558] Jason Lee would have been a great guest for this.
[2559] Wait, you're talking about Ed, the guy with the mustache who goes around with the list, right?
[2560] No, my name is Earl.
[2561] Oh.
[2562] Shit.
[2563] Again.
[2564] Jason Lee.
[2565] Your logic.
[2566] Tom Cavanaugh.
[2567] Thank you.
[2568] I don't know who the fuck that is.
[2569] He was on Ed.
[2570] Oh.
[2571] Ed the horse.
[2572] He was.
[2573] Mr. Ed.
[2574] He was on Scrubs as a guest star occasionally.
[2575] Some other shit.
[2576] Yeah.
[2577] He was the titular Ed.
[2578] 83 episodes.
[2579] Network television.
[2580] Stared in 2004.
[2581] I don't think it sounds like Yogi Bear.
[2582] It's boo -boo.
[2583] Fuck you, then.
[2584] How about that?
[2585] How about that?
[2586] You do a better Yogi Berra.
[2587] That's the thing.
[2588] People have been doing Yogi for years, and I was amazed.
[2589] You should have got Yogi Berra.
[2590] Yes.
[2591] I just can't get past the promotional poster of Good Things Coming Bears.
[2592] Oh, that one.
[2593] That's the reason that people know about that movie, because that ad went.
[2594] I hate to say it, but it went viral.
[2595] It did.
[2596] It did.
[2597] Good things come in bears.
[2598] Good things come in bears.
[2599] And so it's Yogi and Boo Boo.
[2600] And Boo Boo is like a vertically oriented poster.
[2601] Boo Boo's in the lower half smiling and Yogi's behind him.
[2602] That's great.
[2603] Standing there also smiling.
[2604] That's great.
[2605] I think in San Francisco it packed extra punch.
[2606] I was going to say it should have just been grin and bear.
[2607] Do you think somebody at the agency knew what they were doing?
[2608] Or do you think this was the biggest marketing gaffe of all time?
[2609] That movie seems like a pun with wheels.
[2610] I feel like that is not going to have the cultural awareness.
[2611] It's not going to be Pixar with its nudges and winks.
[2612] Do you think somebody lost their job over that ad, though?
[2613] No. That thing was ridiculous.
[2614] It's an agency job.
[2615] Whatever.
[2616] I think the rest of the people lost their job over making a movie of Yogi Bear.
[2617] No, they made it in New Zealand.
[2618] They made it for super cheap.
[2619] Did they?
[2620] Yeah.
[2621] Oh, they filmed it all in New Zealand?
[2622] Yeah.
[2623] Christ.
[2624] Because it's way cheaper.
[2625] Yellowstone, New Zealand.
[2626] All these people had to live in New Zealand for like three months while they made the fucking Yogi Bear movie.
[2627] They should have used the live action bear with like a tie.
[2628] I would have seen that.
[2629] And then Tom Cavanaugh gets eaten by a bear.
[2630] Oh, God!
[2631] The whole movie is like five minutes long.
[2632] Yogi, what do you think?
[2633] Oh!
[2634] Oh, Jesus.
[2635] Just give him the basket.
[2636] But this is my picnic basket.
[2637] The ending is just dude being like...
[2638] I would want to play the whole tapes, but I would like to save you from playing the rest of these tapes.
[2639] I recommend you destroy these tapes.
[2640] Yeah, you should just write.
[2641] Cavanaugh screaming in the background.
[2642] So there's a video game for the DCV coming out based on the Tom Cavanaugh bear murder.
[2643] We should get that.
[2644] The poster I saw said, it's a picnic.
[2645] This is the current ones, yeah.
[2646] Fucking that movie.
[2647] Good things come in bears.
[2648] Great.
[2649] Good things come in bears.
[2650] Great.
[2651] It's fucking amazing.
[2652] Touchmaster Connect for the Nintendo DS.
[2653] What?
[2654] Touchmaster Connect for the Nintendo DS.
[2655] Is this like strip poker?
[2656] Yeah, like Touchmaster.
[2657] Is it really?
[2658] Yeah, but no boobs.
[2659] It's not going to be good.
[2660] The erotic switch turned off.
[2661] Yeah.
[2662] This is like bad basketball.
[2663] Yeah, they've done a few different Touch Master games for the DS already.
[2664] Warner bought it from Midway and they're just keeping up the quality, I'm sure, based on what they did with Game Party.
[2665] And World of Warcraft Cataclysm for the PC.
[2666] It's out this week.
[2667] We have copies in here.
[2668] You guys got deluxo editions.
[2669] Oh, are they selling like big package cloth map style?
[2670] Oh, they always do.
[2671] There's always a soundtrack, behind -the -scenes DVD, some custom icons for your StarCraft 2 account.
[2672] Oh, fucking yes.
[2673] You're going to just go home, punch that code in, and just set it to Goblin and be like, yeah.
[2674] Is there, have you got money on that thing?
[2675] No, but I would save 50 bucks for the standard.
[2676] 50?
[2677] Yeah.
[2678] If I had to guess.
[2679] I'd guess 40.
[2680] The collector's edition was selling on Amazon for $130 today, but I think that's because it ran out.
[2681] Blizzard tends to actually make their collector's editions of a limited amount.
[2682] Didn't you say the original WoW collector's edition is going for like $2 ,000?
[2683] I remember at launch those things were going for like $500 or something.
[2684] And you're just saying that accounts that have all of the collector's editions attached to them are selling for like $3 ,000.
[2685] It doesn't matter about the characters.
[2686] Or the box.
[2687] I don't think you want the physical box.
[2688] They just want the pets that are associated with those keys.
[2689] I just threw out my BlizzCon Murloc card.
[2690] You threw that out?
[2691] I mean, I punched it in.
[2692] Oh, okay.
[2693] Just a card, not the actual murloc.
[2694] I was going to say, a lot of people would love to take that off your hands.
[2695] I had some other one, too, that I threw out.
[2696] I don't even know what was on it.
[2697] But what is probably going to be the biggest game release this week?
[2698] Bejeweled 3 for the PC.
[2699] Whoa.
[2700] The third Bejeweled.
[2701] Whoa.
[2702] It's going to decimate everything else.
[2703] This time you've got to match three gems.
[2704] I thought that was the...
[2705] Shut the fuck up.
[2706] We've been doing that since the first Bejeweled.
[2707] No, you had Bejeweled 1 because the 1, you just match one gem.
[2708] It's really easy.
[2709] And then you just turn it on and it just goes.
[2710] Yeah, that's pretty much the screensaver.
[2711] Why do you think it was such a hit?
[2712] Did you guys see the...
[2713] These jewels falling constantly.
[2714] Did you guys see the press release that PopCap put out?
[2715] It was just like pictures from Bejeweled 3 launch party.
[2716] I did, I did.
[2717] You see those pictures?
[2718] I did, where they staged a little old lady tea party.
[2719] It was awesome.
[2720] It was a bunch of 50 -year -old women.
[2721] That's funny.
[2722] Like having tea.
[2723] And playing on laptops.
[2724] Was Jeff Green with him?
[2725] No, because this was in the UK.
[2726] Oh.
[2727] They wanted to do like the proper British old lady tea party.
[2728] What is Bejeweled 3 adding to the mix?
[2729] It's Bejeweled 3D.
[2730] Watch the quick look to find out.
[2731] All right.
[2732] Twitter integration.
[2733] If only we could get Jeff Green in here this week.
[2734] What platforms can I get Bejeweled 3 on?
[2735] PC.
[2736] Personal computer.
[2737] For now.
[2738] But you know it's going to be.
[2739] Everything.
[2740] Your phone.
[2741] Your headphones are going to play it.
[2742] ColecoVision.
[2743] It's a coffee cup.
[2744] It's going to be a Quake 2 mod.
[2745] Is Jeff Green coming in here?
[2746] He's not.
[2747] Can you still play her?
[2748] No, just not this week.
[2749] He's in Seattle all week.
[2750] For this?
[2751] For what?
[2752] For this.
[2753] Sure.
[2754] I'm sure he would.
[2755] I haven't asked him.
[2756] We should do that.
[2757] Wasn't there a mod for WoW that let you play Bejeweled?
[2758] Yeah, it's still in there.
[2759] Is it licensed?
[2760] Yeah, that's Bejeweled.
[2761] And I believe they're in...
[2762] The process of patching it so that it will work in...
[2763] Or it's already out, so it's like patch up so that when Cataclysm launches, your thing will work with it.
[2764] Yeah, that's still happening.
[2765] That's box games.
[2766] Xbox Live Arcade this week.
[2767] We've got Bomberman Battlefest.
[2768] Now, I'm not sure if this is either a standalone thing or if it's like...
[2769] If they've just changed...
[2770] It's an 8 -player, multiplayer -focused new thing.
[2771] Bomberman...
[2772] But I guess it's based on Bomberman Live, so they just kind of...
[2773] Good things come in Bomberman.
[2774] 800 points.
[2775] More cooperative Bomberman modes, I am told.
[2776] I don't want to play Bomberman anymore.
[2777] Yeah.
[2778] So you're cashing out?
[2779] Just take all my chips?
[2780] As it turns out, I haven't wanted to play Bomberman for a really long time.
[2781] How about some Tetris?
[2782] I could play some good multiplayer Tetris.
[2783] Let me look into that for you.
[2784] Okay.
[2785] Tetris World.
[2786] Or Hattress.
[2787] You got any Hattress?
[2788] I don't have any Hattress.
[2789] I got a floppy in my bag with Tetranet on it.
[2790] All right, cool.
[2791] I was going to say, if we want to play some good multiplayer Tetris, just play Tetranet.
[2792] Tetranet.
[2793] 1 -1 -3, man. Stormcat.
[2794] I got some themes.
[2795] Motherfuckers.
[2796] Tetranet will hold you over.
[2797] But...
[2798] What was the N64 Tetris game?
[2799] Let's talk in a couple weeks.
[2800] Fucking Scott.
[2801] New Tetris.
[2802] Scott would never stop playing?
[2803] The new Tetris.
[2804] The new Tetris?
[2805] Yeah.
[2806] I got something that trumps all of them.
[2807] Yeah.
[2808] Oh, yeah?
[2809] He's going to bring that in.
[2810] We're going to record video of us playing it.
[2811] Is it Tenjin?
[2812] Bring the heat in here.
[2813] Tenjin Tetris?
[2814] Is that what it is?
[2815] He's going to change the world.
[2816] He's going to change the landscape of this office.
[2817] Harm's way!
[2818] We'll talk about Korean Tetris tournaments next week.
[2819] I'm going to be watching Tetris tapes being like, how do you get these new T -spins?
[2820] I'm going to ask you about your opener.
[2821] You're going to say how you're going to go eight long.
[2822] Yeah, five.
[2823] Go four tall.
[2824] Harm's way.
[2825] What's that?
[2826] It's a game for Xbox Live Arcade.
[2827] What do you do in it?
[2828] Eat Doritos.
[2829] Yeah, that's right.
[2830] Is this a Dorito game?
[2831] This is a Dorito game.
[2832] All right.
[2833] I don't know what you're doing in it.
[2834] So you get points?
[2835] Yeah, yeah.
[2836] So it's like here is a free $200.
[2837] Yeah, it is free.
[2838] So get your free points.
[2839] That part's accurate.
[2840] So play it.
[2841] I like Doritos.
[2842] I already like them, so, you know, whatever.
[2843] How great would it be if you fired up the game and there was just, like, a menu option that was just, like, unlock achievements and you just, like, hit the button.
[2844] Only if there was, like, unlock achievements and then a button below it that says, like, push here for Doritos.
[2845] And then Doritos showed up at your house.
[2846] Like, we already have your address.
[2847] We already have that customer relationship.
[2848] Yeah, credit cards over here.
[2849] Opt in for free Doritos.
[2850] Credit cards already in the system.
[2851] Okay.
[2852] That'd be pretty, like, buy Doritos with points.
[2853] Like, you just buy, like, cash 20 bucks.
[2854] And you just pull up the dash and get some Doritos.
[2855] In case of big bags, not this school lunch crap.
[2856] I also have, like, four chips in one of those.
[2857] Come on.
[2858] Did you buy Viva Pinata with your...
[2859] points microsoft points no i bought it with money like actual money i bought it with 99 cents i went to their site and it already had my login and it was like would you like to just use microsoft points i was like sure i had enough but it would have made the amount that i had left over crazy but i'm hoping to get rid of that i'm hoping to someday have zero points on that account so you can put more on there kmart is selling they got a coupon code you can get to 4 000 point cards for $10 off, like $40 for $50 worth of points.
[2860] That's like free money.
[2861] Someone sent that to me today.
[2862] I'll take that.
[2863] Sometimes it's not worth it for the discount difference, but that one is Marvel Pinball.
[2864] Well, the Marvel Pinball tables from Pinball FX 2 are out on the Xbox Live Arcade this week.
[2865] Four new tables, Iron Man, Spider -Man, Blade, and Wolverine.
[2866] Wolverine.
[2867] Wolverine.
[2868] Blade.
[2869] Yeah, these will come out on the PlayStation.
[2870] Those are three separate characters.
[2871] Yeah, nice work.
[2872] Your character work's really getting better.
[2873] Thank you.
[2874] I'm sorry, I didn't mean to step on what you were saying.
[2875] The PSN version's not out until the 14th, but that'll be a standalone game over there because there is no Pinball FX 2 for them to release it for.
[2876] Uh -huh.
[2877] So it'll be its own thing.
[2878] Look out for that.
[2879] Quick look at that.
[2880] Something.
[2881] Quick look at that.
[2882] Recorded.
[2883] Up already.
[2884] Game room.
[2885] What about it?
[2886] What do you mean it's something?
[2887] Some games are going to come out for it.
[2888] I don't know.
[2889] Aren't we nearing the end of this pack?
[2890] Doesn't that mean Sunset Riders must be showing up or this whole thing will collapse?
[2891] Food fight.
[2892] I think Poo Yan was in this pack, right?
[2893] It's near the end, right?
[2894] There could be some bangers, man. Poo Yan is in this one.
[2895] I want to say that they probably have enough left for two more weeks.
[2896] But we only had one of the twin bees out so far, right?
[2897] Yeah, there's another twin bee.
[2898] There's another twin bee.
[2899] The other bee.
[2900] No, there's two Bs in all of them.
[2901] There's one more Atari 2600 game, I think, in this pack also.
[2902] Who fucking cares?
[2903] I do.
[2904] PlayStation Network.
[2905] Kung Fu Lu.
[2906] Kung Fu Live.
[2907] Oh, yeah.
[2908] Kung Fu Live.
[2909] Yeah.
[2910] What were you talking about?
[2911] I was talking about Kung Fu Lu, the star of Off the Wall or whatever the fuck that breakout game was we were playing on.
[2912] Oh, yeah.
[2913] Kung Fu Lu.
[2914] Kung Fu Lu.
[2915] Kung Fu Live is another product that's coming to PlayStation Network this week.
[2916] At first I thought you were giving me some sort of crazy segue.
[2917] I was.
[2918] Oh, okay.
[2919] What do you do with Kung Fu Live?
[2920] Kung Fu?
[2921] Kung Fu Live.
[2922] We played that at PAX.
[2923] Played it at PAX.
[2924] Oh, yeah.
[2925] Me jumping around.
[2926] It's an eye toy.
[2927] It's basically a Kinect game without all that expensive technology.
[2928] More or less.
[2929] It actually maps you into the game, so your little image is running around, scans the background, cuts you out.
[2930] I feel like what's smart about that is by shrinking you down, the issue of the fidelity goes away.
[2931] It's neat for what it is.
[2932] It actually seemed pretty cool.
[2933] It's a little ghetto.
[2934] Like, the tracking is not always awesome.
[2935] Sure.
[2936] And all that.
[2937] But, you know, you're doing backflips and shooting lightning at guys.
[2938] It's ridiculous.
[2939] It's kind of cool.
[2940] We should probably get something going.
[2941] Yeah, we should probably get something going with that.
[2942] Live.
[2943] Some game called QLeon.
[2944] Don QLeon.
[2945] It's Q -L -I -O -N -E.
[2946] It's Q -L -I -O -N -E.
[2947] It's Q -L -I -O -N -E.
[2948] Q -L -I -O -N -E.
[2949] Q -L -I -O -N -E.
[2950] Q -L -I -O -N -E.
[2951] Q -L -I -O -N -E.
[2952] Sure.
[2953] Don Quilione's Cubes is the sequel.
[2954] Q -L -I -O -N -E.
[2955] Q -L -I -N?
[2956] But it's got an E on the end, and there's no hyphen.
[2957] All right.
[2958] What?
[2959] I don't know.
[2960] If I can't say it, I'm not going to buy it.
[2961] Describe it.
[2962] What do you do?
[2963] Simply survive.
[2964] It's heavy.
[2965] It's a super edge, man. Or evolving.
[2966] Or devolving.
[2967] What?
[2968] Is it PlayStation Network?
[2969] Yeah.
[2970] All right, we got to get this.
[2971] I bet it's great.
[2972] Who made it?
[2973] I don't know.
[2974] All right.
[2975] They don't tell me these things.
[2976] How much is it?
[2977] It is $6 .99.
[2978] I know that much.
[2979] How many megabytes is it?
[2980] I don't know that.
[2981] I don't know that.
[2982] I'm pulling this off of the PlayStation blog updates that they put out.
[2983] But those are not details that they give me. All right.
[2984] They also don't tell me how much Kung Fu Live is.
[2985] I think it's $15.
[2986] I could be wrong.
[2987] They do tell me that Alien Breed 2 Assault is out, which I think came out last week on the – or the week before on 360.
[2988] Didn't Alien Breed 3 just come out on 360?
[2989] No, no. That was the next – that was like the third chapter in Alien Breed.
[2990] Because Alien Breed 2 is like a three -part episodic game.
[2991] So it was like we're going to figure out how to charge you $45 for our game even though we're not going to put it out on a disc.
[2992] Right.
[2993] And they did it.
[2994] So good job.
[2995] And Sackboy Prehistoric Moves.
[2996] Yeah.
[2997] Some sort of PSN.
[2998] Move based.
[2999] It is move based.
[3000] I feel like that is like as much as people seem to have, you know, like the conversation seems like it's a lot more about connect than it is about move at this point.
[3001] Although I guess right now no one's really talking about shit because there's no games.
[3002] Yeah.
[3003] One thing that I like about the way Sony has handled the PlayStation move has been putting out downloadable titles to support it.
[3004] And Echo Chrome 2 is out like next week or pretty soon here.
[3005] And I think that actually also has some kind of move supported as well.
[3006] You know why no one talks about Move?
[3007] Why?
[3008] Because it just fucking works.
[3009] There's nothing exciting there.
[3010] It just operates.
[3011] It does as advertised.
[3012] It works as advertised.
[3013] It is quiet about it.
[3014] The games are okay.
[3015] I kind of want to go get one because of that fact.
[3016] I don't have to move furniture around and I know it does what it's supposed to do.
[3017] Unless you move your feet.
[3018] I'll move your feet.
[3019] But also, if you didn't buy a Wii, then don't buy the move.
[3020] The other prerequisite is ship a game that I want to play with it, but as soon as that happens, I'll go pick one up.
[3021] You're right that it does what it's supposed to do.
[3022] Do I care that it does what it does?
[3023] Not a lot is left to interpretation.
[3024] Is your lighting okay?
[3025] Is your far enough away?
[3026] There's some extreme cases that are super messed up and some of the games, but I think a lot of it's been the software's fault.
[3027] Like, the fight is not bad because the move technology is bad.
[3028] The fight is bad because the fight is bad.
[3029] Definitely does seem...
[3030] But I don't know.
[3031] I think that's true of...
[3032] Like, most of the snoozers on Kinect have been like, well, this is just a shitty minivan collection.
[3033] Barely functional.
[3034] Yeah.
[3035] Well, at the same time...
[3036] Even if I had a controller in my hand, this wouldn't be fun.
[3037] At the same time, on the back end, move can do more stuff than those other ones.
[3038] So I think there is more potential to be fulfilled.
[3039] Just from a precision standpoint.
[3040] Kinect has taken the bigger gamble and has the most to gain but also the most to lose.
[3041] When Kinect stuff works as it should, it's still a novel thing.
[3042] When the move stuff works as it should, there's no mystery.
[3043] I get it.
[3044] That's what I'm saying.
[3045] I want to see them do some stuff that nobody's done before with this device that does stuff that no other device does.
[3046] I would love to see that all the time.
[3047] But we'll see.
[3048] With every game.
[3049] I feel like the downloadable, I realize the market they're going for doesn't know what the internet is somehow still.
[3050] But I feel like it would do all of the move and the Kinect so much of a favor to have a very small game where it's like, okay, we have a concept here that can't necessarily carry a $60 or $50 box retail game.
[3051] But it makes good use of the tech, and it's cool.
[3052] Like, I want to see more stuff like that on these platforms for these peripherals.
[3053] What was the one that came out the week the move came out?
[3054] Tumble.
[3055] Topple?
[3056] It was like a Jenga game.
[3057] Timberley, right?
[3058] No, no. Tumble sounds right.
[3059] Timberland.
[3060] Timbo.
[3061] Timbo.
[3062] Timbaland.
[3063] Oh, yes.
[3064] Timba.
[3065] That was pretty cool, right?
[3066] Wasn't that okay?
[3067] It seemed interesting.
[3068] I didn't get deep into it.
[3069] We just did a quick look of it.
[3070] It would be cool to see more stuff like that.
[3071] But it was like one of those proof of concept of here you will see how precise this stuff is and how well it actually works.
[3072] And it was like $10, $15.
[3073] And to have that lower barrier to entry makes that a lot more appealing.
[3074] It lets you make more risks.
[3075] The music game.
[3076] Beat Scratcher.
[3077] Beat Sniffer.
[3078] That was another...
[3079] I guess I should start playing these games if I'm going to say that I want them to be existing.
[3080] Beat Sketcher.
[3081] That's what it was.
[3082] Sure.
[3083] Yes, it was.
[3084] That looks interesting.
[3085] We should probably get a hold of that.
[3086] Jeff, how interesting are Nintendo downloads these days?
[3087] Read those.
[3088] I'm going to go to the bathroom.
[3089] My voice is all jacked up, so this will be...
[3090] I don't know.
[3091] I'm just going to go.
[3092] All right, on WiiWare.
[3093] Fluidity.
[3094] Oh.
[3095] All right, now that fucking asshole is gone.
[3096] Right?
[3097] I mean, seriously.
[3098] Holy shit.
[3099] He's not even recording this.
[3100] Ugh.
[3101] What a pecker.
[3102] Man, I don't hear someone called a pecker very often.
[3103] Yeah.
[3104] And that's how you know I mean it.
[3105] Well, it's good because he's only going to hear this, right?
[3106] When he listens to it.
[3107] He goes ahead of it.
[3108] Yeah.
[3109] And unless he, if he skips over it, then that'll be real fun.
[3110] Yeah.
[3111] Hi, Ryan.
[3112] Piece of shit.
[3113] Damn.
[3114] Fluidity's out this week.
[3115] It's out.
[3116] You may have seen the exclusive video we put up of one of the forums.
[3117] Oh, yeah.
[3118] Yeah.
[3119] Yeah.
[3120] Ran that last week.
[3121] Anyway, 1 ,200 Wii Points.
[3122] There's also a demo available for zero Wii Points.
[3123] They're very...
[3124] I like that they spell it out.
[3125] They don't say also free demo version or just demo version.
[3126] It just says available for zero Wii Points.
[3127] I'm too busy running my balls and Ryan's coughing.
[3128] All right, while you do that, I'll read this.
[3129] A magical illustrated encyclopedia called Aquaticus has been tainted by a vial of evil ink called The Influence.
[3130] Sorry, you sound kind of gross.
[3131] Rub your balls in the evil ink.
[3132] As a pool of water, then put it in scoff.
[3133] Nah, that's better.
[3134] As a pool of water that can take on alternate forms of ice and steam, you must overcome obstacles scattered across the pages of Aquaticus and save it from the corruptive influence.
[3135] Tilt and twist your Wii Remote TM controller to use the various forms and properties of water on your free -flowing journey through Aquaticus, where every page has multiple panels and illustrations that come to life, tackle problems, and defeat enemies to reveal magical rainbow drops, each of which will restore some of Aquaticus' power and allow it to open even more chapters and grant you new powers.
[3136] These additional powers, such as sticking to objects as a block of ice or shooting bolts of lightning as a steam cloud, will be essential to destroying Hey Ryan!
[3137] Now that is how you do foley work.
[3138] Yeah.
[3139] That was good.
[3140] Destroying the influence and its minions.
[3141] Along the way, you can also test your ingenuity and reflexes by finding hidden puzzle pieces.
[3142] These pieces unlock playrooms.
[3143] You still reading fluidity?
[3144] That give you the opportunity to use the skills you've learned and race against the clock to complete as many challenges as possible.
[3145] These challenges won't affect your quest to restore Aquatus' powers, but everyone needs a breakdown again, right?
[3146] You got kind of a late start.
[3147] You guys were talking shit about me while I was gone.
[3148] Fluidity offers a chance to slosh and slide your way.
[3149] Through an imaginative environment filled with challenging adventures, are you ready to dive into this unique experience?
[3150] Doesn't water on a book sound like a bad idea?
[3151] Kind of.
[3152] Unless it's a waterproof book.
[3153] Those exist.
[3154] It's like those kids' books.
[3155] It's like the menu at Applebee's.
[3156] It's a waterproof book.
[3157] That's a good reading.
[3158] The ending fucking sucks.
[3159] The middle part kind of sucks, too.
[3160] Racers Islands Crazy Arenas.
[3161] I actually like the movie better in that case.
[3162] The Applebee's movie?
[3163] Yeah.
[3164] From ZALAG.
[3165] That's all caps.
[3166] What is this called?
[3167] Racers Edge.
[3168] Racers Islands.
[3169] S apostrophe.
[3170] Racers.
[3171] Dash Crazy Arenas.
[3172] Wait, what did who?
[3173] It's the Racers Islands.
[3174] ZALAG.
[3175] You're saying, as a positive, I wasn't sure if it was the Islands or the Racers.
[3176] I'm like, no. What?
[3177] One of four players, 600 Wii points.
[3178] Do you like unusual motorsports challenges?
[3179] That's kind of a loaded question.
[3180] No. No. I guess not.
[3181] Racers Island's crazy arenas includes five wacky activities slash challenges.
[3182] A golden totem to capture in the Lost Temple.
[3183] A wild ascent to an infernal mountain peak.
[3184] An ice hockey tournament between racing cars.
[3185] That's kind of weird.
[3186] A paintball contest powered by engines and a time bomb to toss to your opponents as quickly as possible.
[3187] During these frenzied events, players must drive with one hand while aiming with the other.
[3188] And masturbating with the third.
[3189] I don't have three hands.
[3190] That is a wild event.
[3191] You have to pay more than 600 points.
[3192] Okay.
[3193] Fireplacing from...
[3194] Comair Entertainment.
[3195] Is this like some new thing the kids are doing?
[3196] Yeah, the kids are way into fireplace.
[3197] It's bad.
[3198] It's all rainbow parties, speed stacking, and fireplace.
[3199] Basically breaking into somebody's house and taking a shit in their fireplace and running out.
[3200] We got so many emails from people about speed stacking.
[3201] I'm not going to read any of them, but it was so many people were like, that was like PE in our elementary school.
[3202] Want to go fireplace somebody's house?
[3203] Go fireplacing this weekend?
[3204] Dude.
[3205] I heard Vinny has a fireplace.
[3206] I do have a fireplace.
[3207] Hopefully none of your assholes will go fireplacing.
[3208] Noah's getting out of jail this weekend.
[3209] We should totally go fireplacing.
[3210] They're letting Noah out?
[3211] Yeah.
[3212] Oh, God.
[3213] I know.
[3214] I'm not going fireplacing him.
[3215] Well, technically he's like on house arrest.
[3216] Yeah, yeah.
[3217] You know, whatever.
[3218] We grease up that bracelet and get it off of him.
[3219] Oh, yeah, just slip it off.
[3220] Dude always had like a weak heel.
[3221] He'd slide right over it.
[3222] Exactly.
[3223] Fireplacing.
[3224] 500 weak points from Comer Entertainment.
[3225] K -O -M -E -R.
[3226] I don't know.
[3227] Turn your television into a virtual fireplace equipped with realistic graphics and a fire effect that will almost make you want to warm your hands by it.
[3228] Wait, how much is this?
[3229] 500 Wii points.
[3230] How much is that in dollars?
[3231] It's $5.
[3232] Almost make you want to stick your head directly.
[3233] Almost make you want to get in the mood for the season and just slice up your wrists.
[3234] Wow.
[3235] Prepare the wood, light the fire, and stoke it.
[3236] You know what?
[3237] Or if you prefer...
[3238] Good people come in fireplaces.
[3239] That's what I've heard.
[3240] Choose the automatic option to have the fireplace on your screen while you eat with your family, celebrate with friends, or dine with your partner.
[3241] I'm totally okay with this.
[3242] What's the automatic option?
[3243] You don't have to light the fire?
[3244] There's no gameplay.
[3245] You just turn it on and it's the...
[3246] I'm okay with this because people make the holiday fireplace DVDs and dumb shit like that.
[3247] Why not on the Wii?
[3248] Why not on the Wii?
[3249] I can name a couple of reasons, but why not on the Wii?
[3250] Because I want a higher resolution fireplace than the Wii can handle.
[3251] That's right.
[3252] Unless it crackles from the Wiimote.
[3253] Oh, that'd be good.
[3254] Or we have to rub two Wiimotes together to start it.
[3255] Read the last line.
[3256] There are fireplaces for every occasion.
[3257] I love it.
[3258] I'm going to go buy this.
[3259] I am totally going to go buy this.
[3260] I'm going to turn on the 4th of July fireplace.
[3261] I'm going to go home, turn on that Wii, and I'm going to Totally buy the shit out of this.
[3262] We should definitely do a fireplace.
[3263] I don't think there is a fireplace for every occasion.
[3264] Or a hold it in reserve for the holiday spectacular.
[3265] Oh, yeah?
[3266] Yeah.
[3267] Challenge accepted.
[3268] I don't know.
[3269] It's like, welcome to the first day of Lent.
[3270] It's Vinny's Briss.
[3271] Yeah, light a fire.
[3272] My uncle died.
[3273] Where's the fireplace for that?
[3274] Actually, he was my great uncle, technically.
[3275] There's no fireplace for that.
[3276] Any occasion, Vinny.
[3277] No, I don't think there is.
[3278] Graduations.
[3279] Fireplace.
[3280] Dads and grads.
[3281] Fireplace, light it.
[3282] Fourth of July.
[3283] Stoke it.
[3284] That's that Hallmark thing, right?
[3285] Fireplace.
[3286] Got you a fireplace.
[3287] That's right.
[3288] National Arbor Day.
[3289] I heard you were burned in a fire.
[3290] Here's a fireplace.
[3291] Arbor Day is a great fireplace holiday.
[3292] Absolutely.
[3293] Two virtual console games this week.
[3294] Mmm.
[3295] Wolf of the Battlefield.
[3296] Commando.
[3297] Or as you know it.
[3298] Commando.
[3299] We only added this here.
[3300] Wait, I forget why we added this here.
[3301] So we screwed up and didn't secure the rights to just the name Commando.
[3302] And then all these other games came out called Commando.
[3303] So how about Wolf of the Battlefield Commando, which is directly translated from the Japanese version, which is called like Senjo Nobukami, which I think is Wolf of the Battlefield.
[3304] 800 Wii points.
[3305] What?
[3306] That's 300 more than my damn fireplace.
[3307] Wait, isn't that an NES game?
[3308] Yeah.
[3309] Aren't those supposed to be $5?
[3310] I believe they adjust based on popularity.
[3311] Experience the Capcom arcade game that spawned a multitude of clones as the original Commando comes to your living room.
[3312] Lowercase C on Commando, by the way.
[3313] Comes to your living room courtesy of the Virtual Console service.
[3314] Take control of Super Joe and shoot your way upwards into enemy territory using grenades to wreak havoc with enemy placements in this seminal genre creator.
[3315] Yeah.
[3316] Commando is a classic.
[3317] And the NES version, it doesn't actually say which version this is.
[3318] It would have to be the NES.
[3319] It said arcade.
[3320] It is.
[3321] Oh, oh, oh.
[3322] Yeah.
[3323] Capcom arcade game.
[3324] Yeah.
[3325] I guess that's why it is 800 points.
[3326] All right.
[3327] That's a good version too.
[3328] The NES version, they added a bunch of bonus rooms and weird shit too.
[3329] Made it a crazy game.
[3330] Yeah.
[3331] Underground stuff was not in the arcade.
[3332] It's Commando for every occasion.
[3333] Yeah.
[3334] It's Commando the one where there were fucking tanks you could hop into at certain points.
[3335] No, that's Sicari Warriors.
[3336] Commando was the one where the helicopter would come down and blink because there were too many things on screen or something like that.
[3337] That's also Akari Warriors.
[3338] I'm pretty sure Commando.
[3339] Oh, there was a helicopter that dropped you off.
[3340] Yeah, it dropped you off.
[3341] Was Akari Warriors in the arcade a single player?
[3342] No, it was a two -player rotating joystick.
[3343] I mean, I played the shit out of Akari Warriors.
[3344] I know Akari Warriors.
[3345] I don't know if I ever played Akari Warriors.
[3346] Oh, I did play the arcade.
[3347] There's some other fucking like...
[3348] Frontline?
[3349] Like, style.
[3350] I'll have to go.
[3351] Frontline had a rotating paddle -like controller that would control your name.
[3352] It was sticking buttons, but it wasn't rotating.
[3353] It was, like, nothing odd about the controls.
[3354] But it was, like, jungle vertical scrolling.
[3355] You would get into tanks and shit like that.
[3356] Sticking buttons.
[3357] Oh, that's P .O .W. Like Frankenbeats.
[3358] Maybe it was P .O .W. No, not P .O .W. Maybe it was a side -scroller.
[3359] Get kicked into sticking buttons.
[3360] Twig and berries.
[3361] Commander was the one that eventually would go da -da -da -da -da -da -da -da -da -da -da -da -da -da -da -da -da -da -da -da.
[3362] What else you got?
[3363] Sun Sun.
[3364] What else are you selling?
[3365] Sun Sun.
[3366] So two Suns.
[3367] Sun 2.
[3368] Also from Capcom.
[3369] Also 800 Wii points.
[3370] Experience the original adventures of the Monkey King.
[3371] In this action -packed side -scrolling adventure, rapidly switch between different levels of play to shoot dangerous enemies in the face.
[3372] Does it really say that?
[3373] It really says that.
[3374] It's a fucking A. All right.
[3375] It really says that because whoever wrote this listens to this book.
[3376] You know that we like it when stuff happens in faces.
[3377] I'm very happy about that.
[3378] A truly original concept, this quirky old school arcade classic has been hard to find in the West since its arcade debut in 1984.
[3379] Until now.
[3380] Oh!
[3381] Yeah, Sun Sun is kind of a cool game.
[3382] It's no Commando.
[3383] No. You mean Wolf of the Battlefield Commando?
[3384] No, I just mean Commando.
[3385] So it's not anything like the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie?
[3386] Commandos.
[3387] Turn -based strategy.
[3388] Oh, yeah.
[3389] Those are games.
[3390] DSiWare.
[3391] Dairojo!
[3392] Samurai Defenders.
[3393] From Abolite, one to two players, 800 Nintendo DSi points.
[3394] This is a terror defense game.
[3395] On the awakening of the Edo period, shoguns fight ferocious battles to win over the land of the rising sun.
[3396] From Kumamoto to Tsuruga.
[3397] Six emblematic castles are under siege by implacable ninjas attacking from land and air.
[3398] Strategically position your spears, archers, gunners, generals, and ninjas.
[3399] No, I looped back to the wrong line.
[3400] Strategically position your spears, archers, gunners, generals, and cannons.
[3401] Promote their ranks and wisely employ the smoke bombs and rice balls to your advantage.
[3402] So there's no enemy ninjas.
[3403] It's just ninjas versus non -ninjas.
[3404] But don't get overly confident.
[3405] The art of war of Hana, the geisha, is a reminder that appearances can be deceptive.
[3406] Four gameplay modes include score attack, normal mode, random mode, and versus via DS download play.
[3407] The game also includes a fast -forward function and several degrees of difficulty.
[3408] After this, Jeff's going to pass out.
[3409] I'm getting...
[3410] This is...
[3411] It's too unpleasant for me. This is actually...
[3412] Brad just doesn't take over.
[3413] Does that say what I think it says?
[3414] Space Ace!
[3415] What?
[3416] Yay!
[3417] Registered trademark.
[3418] Wait.
[3419] For DSiWare?
[3420] Yeah.
[3421] Yeah.
[3422] That's what I said.
[3423] Seriously, my throat is too messed up.
[3424] Someone else needs to read this.
[3425] Brad, tell me about Space Ace.
[3426] I don't want to read this right.
[3427] Nope.
[3428] You noticed that I did not reach out to take it.
[3429] Hot potato.
[3430] One player.
[3431] Wait, no. We just have to read Space Ace.
[3432] Space Ace.
[3433] Okay.
[3434] Digital Leisure Incorporated.
[3435] One player.
[3436] E10+.
[3437] This is 800 points.
[3438] Play as the heroic ace and stop the evil commander Borf from taking over the earth.
[3439] Worf plans to reduce all of humankind to infants and take over the planet.
[3440] Is that accurate?
[3441] Yeah.
[3442] Really?
[3443] The Infanto Ray.
[3444] Only two people have.
[3445] He knows this because he has played it like a dozen times on his fucking phone.
[3446] And strength to stop Worf and save Earth.
[3447] Are you going to save Earth?
[3448] I've saved it like Ryan said a dozen times.
[3449] Is his name Ace?
[3450] Space Ace.
[3451] His full name is Space Ace?
[3452] Well, those only two people I was talking about are the beautiful Kimberly and the heroic Ace.
[3453] All right.
[3454] But as they approach Borf Stronghold, Ace is changed into a child by the Infanto Ray and Kimberly is kidnapped by the evil Madman.
[3455] Kimberly's pretty hot.
[3456] She is.
[3457] She's pretty hot.
[3458] Do you have red hair?
[3459] I think they all do.
[3460] She and Daphne.
[3461] Daphne.
[3462] No, Daphne's blonde.
[3463] Space Ace is a fully animated arcade classic from legendary animator Don Bluth.
[3464] You'll make your way through bizarre new worlds by using your Nintendo DSi system to move and fire your laser gun.
[3465] Beware of your foes as they are numerous.
[3466] The fate of Earth is in your hands.
[3467] More than anything, I'd like to know what the size of this is.
[3468] Right, how many blocks?
[3469] No, I'd actually like to know what the size of it is.
[3470] I don't want an intermediary.
[3471] Because that's FMV, as all that game is.
[3472] So how much compression do they have to put on it to fit it onto the DSi, let alone DSiWare?
[3473] On that little screen, it might be really hard to tap the right spot or whatever.
[3474] You might not tap.
[3475] D -pads.
[3476] Yeah, just D -pads.
[3477] That's what I'd do.
[3478] Since that's how it controlled originally.
[3479] I don't know.
[3480] Tap might be fun.
[3481] Tap on the...
[3482] But that would take them to do more than just port the version that they've been busting out for every other platform.
[3483] DVD.
[3484] I believe I have that on DVD.
[3485] Whatever.
[3486] It's fine.
[3487] It's great.
[3488] Don't lock it.
[3489] Brad, no, it's not fine.
[3490] Brad would not read this last one.
[3491] He is in protest.
[3492] Refuses to read this last one.
[3493] So I will try and read this Rytmik Rock Edition.
[3494] Rytmik is spelled R -Y -T -M -I -K.
[3495] From Publisher Cinemax.
[3496] What?
[3497] From Publisher Cinemax.
[3498] Rated one player.
[3499] Rated E for everyone.
[3500] 200 DSI points.
[3501] Rhythmic Rock Edition is an application for creating rhythmic and melodic themes and composing full songs.
[3502] Contains more than 130 carefully selected sound samples of drums, keyboards, bass, lead, and rhythm guitars.
[3503] With Rhythmic Rock Edition, you can quickly and easily create the basic building block, an audio clip.
[3504] Did I read that right?
[3505] That seems like it made no sense.
[3506] Yeah, okay.
[3507] It consists of musical notations for up to four instruments that you may transpose, select their location in the stereo field, and modify their volume, polyphony, and echo.
[3508] You may arbitrarily combine up to 128 such clips in four tracks and create complex pieces of music.
[3509] Well, it's not really arbitrary if you're making music.
[3510] It's rhythmic.
[3511] You editorializing on the reading?
[3512] Uh -huh.
[3513] This stuff gets handed to me, man. Read it like it's on the page.
[3514] No one said read it like it's on the page.
[3515] Read it like it is.
[3516] Read it as it is.
[3517] Oh, you also have a rhythm library and a varied collection of 10 pre -made compositions at your disposal for the best musical experience.
[3518] Listen using headphones or a quality speaker system.
[3519] Not included.
[3520] Oh, you can't download those?
[3521] Not included.
[3522] You want to download some speakers?
[3523] Speakers?
[3524] I got speakers.
[3525] That's it for downloadables.
[3526] Let's talk a little bit about email.
[3527] I just want to take some reader, listener, user.
[3528] I can't hear anything.
[3529] E -mails.
[3530] E -mails.
[3531] Yeah.
[3532] Yes.
[3533] All right.
[3534] Now.
[3535] Yes.
[3536] Yes.
[3537] We need to record Brad saying emails backwards so then he can figure out how to say emails backwards forwards so then we can reverse that and have a weird sounding email.
[3538] Explain me. I wanted to sound like that, but I wanted to be honest.
[3539] Bombcast at giant bomb .com is the email address.
[3540] Uh, we talked a little bit about, uh, last week about the, the involvement of dice in the creation of.
[3541] Need for Speed, Hot Pursuit, and stuff they did for the world.
[3542] And we all acted like idiots that didn't know that DICE made a bunch of driving games before.
[3543] Oh, that's right.
[3544] I somehow completely forgot that.
[3545] Didn't we talk about this last week?
[3546] No, we didn't talk about it.
[3547] No, we didn't talk about this part.
[3548] But Rally Sport, yes, Rally Sport Challenge, Midtown Madness, they made those.
[3549] We're aware.
[3550] Thank you.
[3551] Oh, yeah.
[3552] We're aware now.
[3553] But, yeah, we got a fair amount of emails about that.
[3554] So, Daniel Morton, thanks for writing in about that.
[3555] Dear Drew M. from Oloth, Kansas.
[3556] Hey, Bombcast.
[3557] I was wondering what you guys would think of a Robin Hood game using all of the existing technology in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.
[3558] The player as Robin could scale the castle walls to steal money for the poor people of Nottingham.
[3559] And if he got in trouble, the Merry Men were just a whistle away.
[3560] What do you think?
[3561] I should note that he titles this.
[3562] The subject line for this email is the pallet swap to end all pallet swaps.
[3563] Robin Hood game.
[3564] Good idea or bad idea?
[3565] Vinny.
[3566] Oh, isn't that just Assassin's Creed?
[3567] But it's rated E for everyone.
[3568] No, because what are we going to do?
[3569] Kiss people to death?
[3570] He's a fox.
[3571] That also would not be rated E for everyone.
[3572] Kiss people to death.
[3573] That's a different rated M game.
[3574] Actually, that one's AO.
[3575] To the trees!
[3576] And I'll play a Robin Hood game.
[3577] Okay, again, requiring a little bit of prefacing here.
[3578] Last week we were talking about the interrogation flashbacks.
[3579] And Sean Conn has a thing or two to say about that.
[3580] Hey, Bombcast.
[3581] Hey.
[3582] This whole discussion in your recent episode about interrogation flashbacks has me up in arms.
[3583] In arms, I say!
[3584] In the case of Splinter Cell Conviction, the story being told isn't necessarily that of the guy being interrogated, although he plays a part.
[3585] He's not flashing back.
[3586] There is no zooming into his face as he looks thoughtfully off camera.
[3587] There's only one level where there is a flashback, but that's it.
[3588] He is telling a story within a story.
[3589] He is simply narrating Sam Fisher's actions.
[3590] So with that story within a story framework, add in the interrogation and boom, you have an interrogation story within a story.
[3591] I'd say interrogational, but that's not a word.
[3592] Sure, it's a flashback in the case of Black Ops, but story within a story is broad enough that you'd cover both games to the point where it matters.
[3593] Sean Conn. Maybe we just call it interrogation story instead of interrogation flashback or interrogation story sequences.
[3594] It just makes me want to not talk about it at all.
[3595] Yeah, that's also...
[3596] Audi Cruz, Bronx.
[3597] What's worse, starting things with X or ending them with Z?
[3598] Starting them with X. When I first read this email, because it's super, it's very brief, I thought it might have been like a math equation.
[3599] I think that was Zia's way worse.
[3600] You think I think that was Zia's way worse?
[3601] Brad?
[3602] Oh, man. I can't think of a good example of something started with X. Xylophone.
[3603] X -ray.
[3604] X -rays are pretty cool.
[3605] The extreme games.
[3606] You know, extreme sports.
[3607] The club scene in like 2000.
[3608] Pretty much everything started with X. What about like XX Smoke Dog 420 XX?
[3609] That's pretty bad.
[3610] That's a good example.
[3611] That begins and ends with X. Well, we're not talking about ending with X. Stuff that ends with X is awesome.
[3612] Yeah.
[3613] Xanax.
[3614] Oh, man. That's a good point.
[3615] That also begins with X. So that's the wheel.
[3616] Oh, man. Right there.
[3617] I'll go with the Z as well.
[3618] You're upset at the beginning of the Xanax, but by the end of it, you just don't care anymore.
[3619] Like, oh, it's got an X on the front of it.
[3620] You're like, fucking, I'm going to go take a nap, guys.
[3621] I'll see you later.
[3622] In light of this new information, I'm going to go with C. Balls.
[3623] Well, in light of this new information, I'm going with starting with X. All right.
[3624] David from Detroit.
[3625] A Bombcast folks.
[3626] Fokers.
[3627] I have been having this argument with my girlfriend for a long time, and maybe you guys can settle it for us.
[3628] On a controller, I say that the face buttons are configured in two rows.
[3629] Bottom row is AB.
[3630] Top row is XY.
[3631] She says that in a cross configuration, the top Y and...
[3632] It's a cross.
[3633] Y and B?
[3634] Yeah, it's Y and B and A and X. He should or we should specify that it sounds like he's talking about an Xbox controller.
[3635] It does sound like he's talking about an Xbox controller.
[3636] I am operating under that assumption.
[3637] If Y is at the top, then it's an Xbox controller.
[3638] Yeah, those four letters have very different positions on a Super NES controller.
[3639] Yeah, it sounds like he's talking about the Xbox.
[3640] I agree with his lady.
[3641] I agree with the lady as well.
[3642] That's how your thumb lays.
[3643] Your thumb lays across the X and the A or the Y and the B. It's a cross.
[3644] Well, she's not saying that it's one way.
[3645] She's saying that it's just a cross configuration.
[3646] He is saying it's two rows.
[3647] So I'm sorry.
[3648] My initial reading of this was incorrect.
[3649] I thought it was like rows in one way or rows in another.
[3650] He says rows.
[3651] She says cross.
[3652] I always thought it was an analog for the D -pad on the other side.
[3653] I think he has the rows backwards, though.
[3654] He's saying X and Y, B and A, right?
[3655] That's like counter to how your thumb goes on the pad.
[3656] He's saying like fighting game style, punches on top, kicks on the bottom.
[3657] Right.
[3658] Which I think for that style of game, it is Rose.
[3659] Sure.
[3660] If you're going to go there.
[3661] Yeah.
[3662] I can see that.
[3663] Well, I've got another pickler for you guys.
[3664] Another melon scratcher.
[3665] Yeah.
[3666] Another rib tickler.
[3667] Uh -huh.
[3668] It's not going to be that one.
[3669] Probably.
[3670] Jarrett Heather in Sacramento, California.
[3671] Last week's bomb catch reminded me of something that has always bugged me about arcade hardware naming conventions.
[3672] Unlike two, four, and eight -way joysticks, the 49 -way joystick is the only style that counts the center position as one of its ways.
[3673] Is it too late to correct this discrepancy?
[3674] Would it make more sense to start calling these 48 -way joysticks or to start calling others three, five, and nine -way joysticks?
[3675] Jeff, your thoughts?
[3676] I want to die.
[3677] We're stuck with it because people that make arcade hardware are crazy.
[3678] Like, people from that era are all insane.
[3679] And also very set in their ways at this point.
[3680] Yeah.
[3681] And also not into standards.
[3682] Yeah.
[3683] Yeah.
[3684] You're saying the octagonal gate was not ratified by the International Standards and Measures Committee?
[3685] Yeah.
[3686] I have an octagonal gate.
[3687] It comes in from Cody.
[3688] Dear Giant Bombcast, how do I explain to my wife when I start – how do I explain to my wife why I start whistling Rilo Kylie every time she wears track pants?
[3689] Jeff.
[3690] There's really no easy way to – there's really no easy way to do that.
[3691] That's it for emails.
[3692] I wish I could help.
[3693] That's it for emails.
[3694] Thanks to everyone who wrote in.
[3695] Once again, you want to have your question read and then – Hastily dismissed here on our podcast.
[3696] Bombcast at GiantBomb .com is the address.
[3697] All right, we have to get out of here before the garage closes.
[3698] Sweet.
[3699] Oh, God.
[3700] That must mean it's late.
[3701] We have to get out of here.
[3702] Thanks, everyone, for listening.
[3703] We'll be back next week.
[3704] There's also going to be a ton of Game of the Year shenanigans coming up on GiantBomb .com soon.
[3705] Not just yet, but we're talking about it.
[3706] Yeah.
[3707] Heads up.
[3708] on the BombCast.
