Morning Wire XX
[0] I'm Daily Wire, editor -in -chief John Vickley, with Georgia Howe.
[1] It's Tuesday, December 12th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] It's when that speech crosses into conduct that violates our policies against bullying, harassing, and does that speech not cross that barrier?
[3] Does that speech not call for the genocide of Jews and the elimination of Israel?
[4] Embattled Harvard President Claudine Gay will remain in her position.
[5] That's according to an announcement from the college's board, which unanimously, put their support behind her.
[6] Daily Wire culture reporter Megan Basham has more.
[7] Today's announcement comes after a week of outcry regarding testimony Gay gave before a congressional committee, along with UPenn President Liz McGill and MIT President Sally Cornbluth.
[8] It also comes amid allegations that Gay plagiarized some of her scholarly work during her academic career.
[9] In a statement, the board said that their deliberations have affirmed their confidence that gay is the right leader to, quote, help our community heal and to address the very serious societal issues we are facing.
[10] The statement also went on to say that she had apologized for her controversial testimony and that she has committed to redoubling the university's fight against anti -Semitism.
[11] Meanwhile, critics remain adamant in their calls for her to step down, while alumni and employers who frequently hire from the three elite schools are saying they will no longer do so.
[12] Here's Barstool Sports Dave Portnoy speaking along those lines on Fox business.
[13] It's not only me, I think a lot of leaders have to do it.
[14] It was disgusting what those deans and presidents did under oath.
[15] It makes no sense to me. If you can't condemn genocide, I don't care whether we're talking Jews, Muslims, any group of people, then you don't deserve to be, you know, in a position of power.
[16] You've got to get out.
[17] Consumer prices climbed a bit higher in November, but according to the U .S. government, the pace of inflation is continuing to slow.
[18] The Consumer Price Index released this morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics says that overall consumer prices rose 0 .1 % in November compared to October.
[19] According to the Bureau, gasoline prices fell sharply and overall energy prices are down 9 .8 % over the last year, but they say greater shelter costs canceled out any relief brought on by better gas and energy prices.
[20] Economists had previously projected a little to no change between November and October.
[21] A Norwegian commercial tanker was hit by a Houthi missile in the Red Sea today off the coast of Yemen.
[22] Both Yemen's Houthi rebels and U .S. military authorities have confirmed the attack.
[23] The Iran -backed terrorist organization increased attacks on vessels in major shipping lanes in the area in support of their Palestinian ally Hamas.
[24] The latest assault expands their campaign beyond ships that have direct ties to Israel.
[25] A Houthi military spokesperson said the ship was targeted because they believed it was transporting oil.
[26] to Israel.
[27] The Norwegian vessel was attacked only after its crew turned a deaf ear to all our warnings.
[28] The Yemeni armed forces will not hesitate to attack any vessel that may disobey our earlier statements.
[29] We reiterate that we will continue to prevent all vessels, regardless of their nationalities, headed to the Israeli seaports, from navigating in the Arab or Red Sea, until the necessary food and medical supplies are delivered to our brothers in the Gaza Strip.
[30] This comes two weeks after a U .S. warship rescued a tanker with ties to Israel from fire in the Gulf of Aden.
[31] The attackers were allegedly Houthi rebels.
[32] Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with leadership from the House and Senate today ahead of his meeting with President Joe Biden at the White House.
[33] Zelensky is poised to ask for more aid in his country's war with Russia.
[34] After his meeting with Zelensky, Johnson said that while he and House Republicans stand with Ukraine in the war, they will not agree to aid for Ukraine unless the White House satisfies two conditions.
[35] We needed clarity on what we're doing in Ukraine and how we'll have proper oversight of the spending of precious taxpayer dollars in the American citizens, and we needed a transformative change at the border.
[36] Thus far, we've gotten neither.
[37] The Senate has been MIA on this.
[38] The House passed H .R. 2 more than six months ago.
[39] It's been sitting and collecting dust on Chuck Schumer's desk.
[40] Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called on Speaker Mike Johnson to keep the change in session until border negotiations have been settled.
[41] New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu is poised to endorse Nikki Haley for president at a town hall event later tonight, according to several sources close to the governor.
[42] One member of Sununu's team said the governor has been all in on Haley for some time.
[43] The endorsement is seen as a boost to Haley's campaign, which has garnered some momentum lately.
[44] It also put an end to the idea that Sununu would back Florida Governor Ronda Santis.
[45] 10 Washington, D .C. teens were charged on Monday in association with at least 15 carjackings.
[46] The teens are suspected of being involved in two separate organized carjacking rings.
[47] They allegedly discussed the carjackings in a group chat in which one defendant compared the crimes to grand theft auto in real life.
[48] The victims include a ride share driver who was shot multiple times, a dentist, a mother with children in the car, and an elderly couple among others.
[49] According to authorities, DCSC has seen 932 carjacking so far this year, resulting in 167 arrests.
[50] 62 % of those arrests were juveniles.
[51] U .S. Attorney for the District Matthew Graves is petitioning for these teens to be charged as adults.
[52] These are not the impetuous crimes of a child who temporarily lost control.
[53] They are the calculated crime of someone willing to hold a gun to someone's head for money or property.
