[2] Five U .S. soldiers were killed over the weekend in a helicopter crash over the Mediterranean Sea between Cyprus and Lebanon.
[3] The Pentagon says the men were killed during a, quote, routine air refueling mission when their MH -60 helicopter went down.
[4] The soldiers were attached to the U .S. Army's 160th Special Operation Aviation Regiment, That unit is often used for insertion and extraction.
[5] The U .S. military has sent several commando teams to Cyprus in preparation for hostage rescue.
[6] Republican Senator Tim Scott suspended his campaign on Sunday after failing to gain traction in the national polls.
[7] The South Carolina Senator made the announcement on the Fox show Sunday Night in America during an interview with Tray Gowdy.
[8] I love America more today than I did on May 22nd.
[9] But when I go back to Iowa, it will not be as a presidential candidate.

[12] Iceland has declared a state of emergency and ordered thousands of people to evacuate their homes after a series of earthquakes amid an impending volcanic eruption.

[14] residents of the town of Grindavik were ordered to leave the area as Icelandic officials warned of a likely eruption on or near the Reykjanez Peninsula.
[15] In the last few weeks, the region has experienced more than 20 ,000 tremors around the Fagradalch Fiatch volcano.
[16] For the first time in six years, Chinese leader Xi Jinping will visit the U .S. And he'll meet with President Biden for the Asia -Pacific Economic Conference.
[17] More than 20 ,000 business leaders and diplomats from 21 countries are expected to meet at the conference.
[18] which is being held in San Francisco.
[19] To prepare for the summit, California Governor Gavin Newsom had the city's homeless population moved and the streets power washed.
[20] That's according to local station KTVU.
[21] The overhaul of the city includes new paving on major roadways, extra security on the public transit system, and decorative landscaping and crosswalks.

[23] I know folks say, oh, they're just cleaning up this place because all those fancy leaders are coming into town.
[24] That's true because it's true.

[26] But it's also true for months and months and months prior to APEC.
[27] We've been having different conversations.
[28] A massive fire in Los Angeles has forced the closure of a critical bridge on interstate 10, a highway that services more than 300 ,000 vehicles a day.
[29] Governor Newsom declared a state of emergency, and Mayor Karen Bass says the roadway will be closed indefinitely.
[30] The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the Santa Monica observer said, quote, the fire started at a homeless encampment.
[31] It quickly engulfed two storage facilities located under the bridge and several cars were also burned.
[32] Everything you can imagine was stored on there.
[33] Car parts, automobiles, pallets, shipping containers.
[34] The homeless people living under the bridge were relocated.
[35] A joint investigation by the Washington Post in Germany's Der Spiegel concluded that a decorated Ukrainian special forces colonel helped orchestrate the bombing of the Nord Stream natural gas pipelines in September 2022.
[36] The joint report claims that Colonel Roman Chervinsky helped coordinate the logistics of the plot, though he did not plan it himself.
[37] The investigation cites several anonymous sources with knowledge of the operation, including officials in Ukraine.
[38] Chavinsky's attorneys say the colonel denies any role in the sabotage operation.
[39] The damage to the gas pipeline between Russia and Germany sparked a surge in energy prices and cut off massive revenues for Russia amid its ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
