Full Transcription:

[0] You're listening to Draft King's Network.

[1] Now's a good time to remember where the story of tequila started.

[2] In 1795, the first tequila distillery was opened by the Cuervo family.

[3] And 229 years later, Cuervo is still going strong.

[4] Family owned from the start, same family, same land.

[5] Now's a good time to enjoy Cuervo.

[6] The tequila that invented tequila.

[7] Go to Quervo .com to shop tequila or visit a store near you.

[8] Quervo, now's a good time.

[9] owned by Beckley, SAB, the CV.

[10] Copyright 2024.

[11] Proximo.

[12] Jersey City, New Jersey.

[13] Please drink responsibly.

[14] Welcome to the Big Suey.

[15] Presented by Draft Kings.

[16] Why are you listening to this show?

[17] The podcast that seems very similar to the other Dan Lebitard podcast.

[18] I'm sorry, I'm not going to apologize for that.

[19] In fact, the only difference seems to be this imaging.

[20] I have been tempted in restaurants just walking past tables to grab somebody's fries if they're just there.

[21] That hasn't happened to you guys?

[22] I've done it.

[23] And now, here's the marching man to nowhere, fat face, and the habitual liar.

[24] All right, we'll go right now to the phone line.

[25] We've got the one and...

[26] The phone line.

[27] I love that resetting it, baby.

[28] The phone line.

[29] 934, on Monday morning.

[30] That is so good.

[31] 934, it's, what's that, 84 degrees outside, mostly cloudy.

[32] And we go to Matthew Barry.

[33] On the Miller Light hotline.

[34] Rocking with you on a Wednesday.

[35] And Matthew, we just went through our best laughs of the year.

[36] Do you have a good laugh or do you have what your friends would classify as a laugh that should be sent straight to hell?

[37] I think I'm somewhere in the middle.

[38] I definitely don't think I have a great laugh, but I'm also not one of those, you know, snort, you know, disgusting, like what was that kind of laugh?

[39] Somewhere in the middle.

[40] Very mid, I believe, is what the kids say.

[41] Mid is almost bad now.

[42] You know, when you say something...

[43] Mid is bad.

[44] It's not even middle of the road.

[45] It's something less than...

[46] to be desired.

[47] It's not like a, listen, it's not a great laugh.

[48] It's not one that I'm going to sit here and be like, listen, listen, you know who's got to kill a laugh, like with two thumbs, this guy, like, you know, whatever.

[49] It's a laugh.

[50] It's a decent laugh.

[51] I don't know.

[52] If you say something funny, maybe we'll find out.

[53] We'll find out.

[54] Damn, now the pressure's on me. Matthew, how many drafts have you done already?

[55] How many drafts?

[56] Oh, not counting mock drafts, right?

[57] Like actual drafts?

[58] Actual drafts, yes.

[59] I think 20, 21, something like that.

[60] I'm in.

[61] I'm in the middle of six or seven right now.

[62] Like slow drafts.

[63] So how many mock drafts?

[64] You know, hundreds.

[65] You know, I don't know.

[66] Way too many.

[67] Way too many.

[68] Do you ever get tired of it?

[69] Like, do you wake up and you're just like, you know what?

[70] I don't like, no, no one asked me today, you know, Caleb Williams or Brock Purdy.

[71] See, now that's a different question, Stugats.

[72] Like, the part that I don't get, I don't get tired of like drafting, you know, that's, That's always fun.

[73] I do get tired of like, yeah, there are moments where you're just sort of like, yeah, I don't know, man. Figure out your own sleeper.

[74] Like, you know, like, there are, there are times, there are times if I'm like, if I'm, the two things that drive me crazy are, that's excessive, but the two things that are annoying sometimes are number one is like, if I'm like, if I'm out with my kids or I'm trying to do something, there'll be times where like, whatever, like, I'm stuck in traffic and I get to the airport, and I'm like, I got 10 minutes to catch my, you know, get to my gate.

[75] And someone wants to take me through their dynasty team.

[76] That's too God.

[77] It's April.

[78] It's April.

[79] And I'm like, dude, you know, like, they're going to close the gate and I'm, you know, and I don't want to be rude here, but, you know, or like if I'm out with my kids or something like that.

[80] So that happens.

[81] Or the other thing I don't like is, um, uh, is an open ended question.

[82] Which is right.

[83] So, uh, you know, for those are this, uh, uh, ESPN alumni and John Swatski.

[84] Yeah.

[85] Shouted to the great John Swatski and pointed questions, but like, I'll get like, well, who's a sleeper?

[86] And you're just like, I mean, you know, like, I've studied over 400 players at this point in my life, right?

[87] I mean, for this year, right, just for this year.

[88] So the idea of asking that somebody like, hey, who's a sleeper is the question of me saying, like, hey, Stugats, what do you want to eat?

[89] And your answer is to be like, well, is it, is it breakfast?

[90] Is it dinner?

[91] Are we going to a nice restaurant?

[92] We go into a diner.

[93] We go into a, you know, Or are we getting something on the side of the road?

[94] Or we had a stadium?

[95] Like, you know what I mean?

[96] Like, it's just, there's a zillion different ways to answer that question.

[97] And so, you know, give me a late round sleeper.

[98] Give me a sleeper on the Giants.

[99] You know what I mean?

[100] Like, give me a pointed question.

[101] That's what I always prefer.

[102] Matthew, I'll tell you right now, I have a simple formula for this.

[103] Everyone gets one question, right?

[104] One question.

[105] And then that's it.

[106] I'm out.

[107] Unless you're a bartender or a bouncer or someone, the general manager of a restaurant I want to get into, then they get 15 minutes of show.

[108] Then they get to ask, I'll give them the full bells and whistles.

[109] But like if you are a regular bystander on the street, someone at the airport and I don't have a flight to catch in 10 minutes, I will give you one question, I'll answer, and then we keep it moving.

[110] And that's a, that has, you know what, treated me well.

[111] I'm going to, I love that rule.

[112] I'm going to adopt that rule.

[113] I feel like Stu Gatz and I talk about this at the Super Bowl.

[114] but the other rule is and you know who I shout out Gary Delabate you know Baba Bowie from the Howard Stern show is a friend He gave me this rule I thought was really good too Gary was always like the second he's like the key is the second handshake and I'm like really the second handshake and he goes yeah yeah he goes a fan will come up and they'll want to shake your hand so you shake their hand and then to your point like maybe you do one question whatever you know they they say whatever they want to say you respond you talk about he goes and then you give them the second handshake and he's like nine nine times out of a hundred the second hand shake is that indication like okay sign our hey we're you know we've had our moment here and now it's time for me to go on with my life and so I've always remembered that too that that's a that's a strong key is uh is the second handshake so um yeah you know um going forward if you meet me you get one question and a second handshake and then we're done Matthew, what would you say doing all these drafts that you've done is your favorite round?

[115] Is my favorite round?

[116] Yeah.

[117] I think I think like the last couple of rounds.

[118] I mean, like, you know, the first and second round are always fun.

[119] No, no, no, no, no. Matthew, just won, though.

[120] You got to pick a round.

[121] Oh, I mean, like, I don't know, 14, round 14, I guess.

[122] Wow.

[123] There it is.

[124] You get value.

[125] Defense kicker there.

[126] Well, no, I don't even do a kicker, but that's where I, in round 14, That's where my knowledge, you know, like, because at some point, there's, you know, you're going through the, everyone's got, you know, ranks in the room and whatever, but I feel like the deeper you go, that's where my research, my knowledge.

[127] That's where that helps.

[128] So, Matthew, as I said, I give 15 minutes a show to bartenders and bouncers everywhere, but the other people I also give more time to are my celebrity friends.

[129] Sure.

[130] Who is the celebrity friend who pesteres you the most for fantasy advice?

[131] Oh, the pastures me the most.

[132] They're usually No. Yeah, I mean, they're all really, really good, you know?

[133] So like, I mean, there are people in my life that pester the hell out of me that just blow up my phone.

[134] And but no, there's no celebrity that pesteres me the most.

[135] There's not one that I talk to like, you know, every single day or that kind of thing.

[136] There's, you know, there's a bunch of them.

[137] that I talk to once a week for their lineup or they'll want to run a trade by me or like, you know, hey, I need a running back.

[138] Here's three that are in the waiver wire.

[139] Who do you like the most?

[140] That kind of stuff.

[141] But no one ever blows up my phone.

[142] And also, to your point, to your point, like if they do, I don't mind it, right?

[143] You know, they have my phone number for a reason, right?

[144] You know, it's my version of 15 minutes of show, as you said.

[145] So Jay Z's not hitting your help constantly, like just.

[146] No, no. Jay doesn't even need that much.

[147] I mean, like, Jay doesn't need that much help.

[148] Jay will ask me, like, will, you know, he'll, the thing that I do most with him, I think, is sometimes it's like, if he's got a trade, we'll just sort of talk through, you know, here's what happens if you do this.

[149] Here's what happens if you don't like.

[150] And, you know, half the time, I'll be like, I don't like the trade.

[151] It's like, I'm going to do it anyway.

[152] So whatever, you know, like.

[153] I love the idea of calling an expert and then saying, you know what, your advice.

[154] I got this.

[155] Well, let's be clear about this.

[156] You do not get to the level of success that he has had, right?

[157] He is a multi -billionaire.

[158] He is an incredibly successful entrepreneur, singer, producer.

[159] I mean, you know, like, you don't get to the level of success of him without being highly intelligent, very curious, and opinionated.

[160] You know what I mean?

[161] Like, the other thing about him is that, like, there's not an NFL player in the league that he can't text.

[162] Like, who's not taking his call?

[163] You know, so, you know, so sure.

[164] Like, I'm just, I'm one opinion for him, right?

[165] You know, but he's a very good player.

[166] And he doesn't need a lot of help.

[167] All right, Matthew, you need to settle a furious debate we were having here behind the scenes yesterday.

[168] This is actually not fantasy related.

[169] I want you to just put your NFL expert hat on.

[170] One game for your life.

[171] All bias aside.

[172] no injuries don't factor in injuries at all one game for your life DJ Moore or Jalen Waddle one game for my life DJ Moore or Jalen Waddle all bias aside DJ Moore was his answer DJ Moore thank you is it close yeah I think so but I I mean I I think DJ Moore is just a more they're both fantastic but I think he's a more I think he's a more well -rounded wide receiver at this stage of his career.

[173] I think he's more scheme -proof.

[174] He's more quarterback -proof.

[175] So, I mean, you know, DJ Moore, Jalen Waddle's got the speed, and I mean, they're both awesome, right?

[176] But like, if we're playing along with this incredibly stupid premise, then he has to DJ Moore.

[177] Stupid.

[178] Okay, now factor in injuries, though.

[179] Now factor in the injuries.

[180] And biases.

[181] And biases.

[182] Sorry.

[183] If we're, if we're factoring biases, then it's Terry McLaurin of my beloved Washington command.

[184] Ah, the scary, Terry.

[185] You're dead.

[186] Who do you have the most exposure to this year in all your drafts?

[187] Well, I have a ton of obviously Kyla Murray, who I announced as my fantasy football ride or die.

[188] A lot of Kyla Murray, a lot of, let's see, In terms of running backs, I'm trying to think, you know, in terms of the, I like Ken Walker, a good amount, James Cook.

[189] I mean, look, if you just sort of look at my love, hate, you know, that's basically, because those are all guys that I have above consensus.

[190] So I wind up with them quite a bit as well.

[191] A lot of Deonti Johnson, who I think is just going to get a massive target share.

[192] I have a decent amount of Rishie Rice.

[193] I will tell you this, I have a ton, a ton of Isaiah Pacheco, who I think is going to have a monster year.

[194] A lot of Trey McBride this year at Tide End.

[195] And I will tell you that almost every draft I try to leave with Luke McCaffrey, which you're going to call me a homer, but at some point this year, Luke McCaffrey's going to be a thing.

[196] This is what I said, last preseason I said this about Tank Dell.

[197] And we were like, really?

[198] And I said, I'm promising you at some point this season, Tankdale is going to be a thing.

[199] I believe, I don't think he's going to have tanked out like year, but I do believe at some point this year, Luke McCaffrey's going to be a thing.

[200] I like Tyrone Tracy, the backup running back in New York quite a bit as well.

[201] I like him as kind of a late round flyer.

[202] And, you know, in two quarterback leagues, a lot of Jayden Daniels as well.

[203] Again, my commander's homerism, but he's going to run a ton.

[204] Jordan Love would be another guy that I think has a big year.

[205] Matthew, speaking of Luke McCaffrey, there was two live drafts that I was at that they took the wrong sticker number one took Luke McCaffrey in two separate draft because they just saw McCaffrey and they're like oh yeah that's it and then it's like wait a second no that's Luke and then we had to start the whole draft over again they should be stuck with them yeah I was gonna say you're nicer because I've been I've been in I've been in leagues where they're like man sticker sticker you know sticker plays man you know sticker don't lie you stuck it up there dude that's that's who you got I had someone take Glenn Gruncowski in one of my leagues once that way well for a while there this is This is going old school, but for a while there, there was a running back on the Bears named Adrian Peterson.

[206] No way.

[207] That wasn't the Vikings Adrian Peterson.

[208] So there was actually another running back.

[209] It was like Adrian A. Peterson or something like that.

[210] Like he was a third string or practice squad a guy.

[211] But like they, like I've been in, I was in a draft or two where somebody took the wrong Adrian Peterson.

[212] Again, that's going, you know, back in the day.

[213] I have a question for you guys.

[214] Yes.

[215] I know you guys are hardcore fantasy players.

[216] here.

[217] Have you guys ever heard of and or done a guillotine league?

[218] Whoa, what's that?

[219] Never heard of it?

[220] I've never done it.

[221] But I want to do it now.

[222] Okay.

[223] So I am, I want to explain this concept to you and I desperately want you guys to do it.

[224] And I'll explain at the end why I want you guys to do it.

[225] But I think there's be amazing.

[226] So this is a guillotine league.

[227] You have a league like normal.

[228] You draft a team like normal.

[229] The difference is that you don't play head to head.

[230] So you just start a normal lineup at the end of the week the team with the lowest score in the league gets cut yeah forever i like that i love that they're seasons over their seasons over you keep doing that until only one team remains here's the other big twist all the players on the team that got cut go back into the way wow wow oh no so yeah so it's like week six and like chris mcatherine and Patrick Mahomes are on the waiver wire.

[231] Right.

[232] Well, every week, there's a whole new roster that's available on the waiver wire.

[233] I love this.

[234] Yes.

[235] And obviously, every team has star players.

[236] The other fun thing about it is, is that you can do two things.

[237] Number one is obviously, because you're not playing head -to -head, you can have uneven numbers.

[238] You can have a 13 -person league, a 15 -person league.

[239] As long as there is one more member in the league than weeks left in the season, like right now, you could do an 18 -person league.

[240] I'm in a bunch of 18 -person guillotine league drafts right now.

[241] But, like, with four weeks left in the season, you could start a league, and there's five weeks left in the season.

[242] Oh, yeah.

[243] You know, when there's four weeks left in the season, you could start a five -person league, I mean.

[244] So it is, this is a format that just has, the last couple of years has just started really gained steam.

[245] And full disclosure, like, Stu Gats, I love this format so much.

[246] I discovered it three years ago.

[247] I love this format so much.

[248] I literally bought the company.

[249] my my my my my my i swear to god my startup fantasy life yeah we have fired well done what i'm sorry just a sound that we play don't worry about it just you know just work right through it man okay great was that a was that a look at me was it yeah yeah it was a look at me louis yes yes i liked it so much i bought it look at me louis yeah well yeah no but i would argue that i don't know this is the full proper use of the look at me louis Again, I'm certainly not claiming to be an expert in Levitard Sounders, but I would just say, like, this was just me trying to be full disclosure.

[250] So as, like, people aren't like, oh, yeah, Barry's pitching this thing because he owns it because he's got a piece of it.

[251] Like, I was just trying to be more, that wasn't a brag.

[252] It was more of a like, hey, full disclosure.

[253] You're telling us how much you like it.

[254] You liked it so much that you bought it.

[255] I understand.

[256] Number wise, though, how much did you like that?

[257] You're not in the client.

[258] You're also the president.

[259] Yeah, that's exactly right.

[260] It's a little bit of like the, if you remember the old Victor Kayam, like I like the company so much.

[261] I'm just saying I put my money where my mouth is.

[262] That's all.

[263] Billy, are you asking how much he purchased it for?

[264] I mean, if he wants to tell us.

[265] Yeah.

[266] I'm going to, you know, whatever.

[267] Whatever I paid for it was worth every penny.

[268] That's what I'll tell you.

[269] No, but listen, get just you, I would, here's why I really want, Billy, this is why I really want you guys to do this, because you know what will happen.

[270] If you guys do this, if you guys do a league, the person in the league that will take it the most serious will be Stu Gauts and the person that will be out week one will be Stu Guts correct they'll be like half the league will like auto -draft it or whatever and like you know Stu Guts but it's it's incredibly fun and intense and I highly recommend trying it and so like whatever you can whatever it's all it's free to play it it's Gatimleaks .com I'm getting a plug in we'll play it I want a piece of the company though okay done done exactly you want to be it's too got you want to be an ambassador yes we'll uh we'll get to an ambassador deal yes please can we get this done all right yeah all right your people talk to my people i don't have people just tell them to call me okay yeah all right uh check out his uh podcast the fantasy football happy hour it's on peacock and on the nfl on mbc youtube channel uh what round did you get jaden daniels what round would you say is too early to take a quarterback matthew what round is too early obviously it depends on your league, like you're in a two -quarterback league, superflex league, or is it a 10 -person, one quarterback league?

[271] Generally speaking, I think I don't want a quarterback before round four unless I'm in a superflex league.

[272] If I'm in a superflex league where you're playing two quarterbacks, take a quarterback in the first round.

[273] I have no problem with that, right?

[274] But otherwise, I think fourth or fifth, somewhere in that four to seven range.

[275] I think it's important this year to get a mobile quarterback.

[276] It's one of the reasons I like Jaden Daniels.

[277] But, like, we've looked at it, and one of the reasons why, like, I have C .J. Stroud outside my top five, and I will love C .J. Stroud.

[278] And C .J. Stroud is awesome.

[279] But since 2020, there have literally been only two quarterbacks, only two quarterbacks in the NFL that have rushed for less than 240 yards and have finished with a top five fantasy quarterback finish.

[280] And that was Tom Brady and Aaron Rogers.

[281] And both those guys threw for over 4 ,400 yards and over 4, 440.

[282] three touchdowns.

[283] And so it's just like there's just a much more narrow path to fantasy success if you only get points with your arm.

[284] And so that's why you see, you see the Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson's, Jalen Hertz, Patron Holmes.

[285] I have Kyler Murray at five.

[286] Why you see these mobile quarterbacks going early and why I would, if I don't get one of those mobile quarterbacks on Anthony Richardson's on that list as well, then I would rather, I'd prefer to wait for a Jordan Love or a Jane Daniels that you can get in the, you know, nine to 11 range of quarterback rather than somebody who's more of a pure pocket passer like a Stroud or a borough who go three to four rounds earlier than those later guys.

[287] All right.

[288] The podcast is Fantasy Football Happy Hours on Peacog and on the NFL on NBC YouTube channel and the website is guillotine leagues with an S at the end .com.

[289] Matthew Barry.

[290] I'm part owner.

[291] There you go.

[292] Ambassador Stugats.

[293] Thank you, Matthew.

[294] Ambassador Stuggets.

[295] Hey, I appreciate you guys.

[296] Always fun.

[297] Thanks, Matt.

[298] Listen up, folks.

[299] The college football landscape has changed a lot.

[300] NIL deals, social media, the transfer portal.

[301] There's never been more distractions for an athlete.

[302] But Powerade knows what's important.

[303] The commitment to the game.

[304] The game is what matters.

[305] With 50 % more electrolytes than Gatorade their squinter.

[306] Powerade hydrates athletes as they block out the noise and put in the work.

[307] Hydrate your grind with PowerAid.

[308] Grab a pack today on Amazon or at a store near you.

[309] See product label for additional details.

[310] It takes more.

[311] Mr. Mr. Shirt, if I may say for a second.

[312] Miami, they were simulating the snap count the entire game, and they were clapping at the line of scrimmage.

[313] And the only thing I want to see clapping are them cheats on Mrs. Met in my face, Mike, sir.

[314] All right, so that's one thing.

[315] Stugats.

[316] They're a bunch of cheaters, Dan, and you know who should be cheating?

[317] Mrs. Met on Mr. Met.

[318] And he can watch if he wants.

[319] This is the Dan Lebatar show with the Stugats.

[320] Stugats, I realize you're probably the worst person I can talk to about this.

[321] All right.

[322] Thank you.

[323] Pronouncing foreign words correctly.

[324] Yeah, tough.

[325] I was watching the Bill Lawrence show that Billy mentioned earlier, Bad Monkey with Vince Vaughn in it.

[326] It's a very funny show.

[327] It's a murder mystery as well, so I love those.

[328] And in the show, he's drinking.

[329] on some rum and his partner, you know, Vince Vaughn plays a cop, his partner walks up and says the name of the rum.

[330] It's a Haitian rum.

[331] The character calls it Barbencourt.

[332] But I was introduced to this rum through my roommate who is Haitian and is a fan of the show Carl.

[333] Carl Claremont.

[334] Carl was the first one introduced me this when we were in college and he, and he pronounces Babancourt.

[335] Baboncourt, if I'm going to be really precise.

[336] So it brought back all these feelings of, am I an asshole when I see it at a bar and I don't call it barbancourt?

[337] Or should I pronounce it basically like an asshole, Babankool?

[338] Or should I pronounce it like an idiot?

[339] Barboncourt.

[340] And I run into this all the time.

[341] As I said to God's, I don't think you have the same sort of dilemma in your life.

[342] I just get to hang it right in tonics.

[343] That's it.

[344] There you go.

[345] Are you with Carl?

[346] No. Like when I'm ordering these drinks?

[347] Yeah.

[348] But you've been given the knowledge, though.

[349] I've been given the knowledge.

[350] So now you can't go back and stray from the knowledge you've been given.

[351] So full disclosure, I've been wanting to talk about this for weeks before even that episode of Bad Monkey happened.

[352] The reason why I came up with the topic was because I was on a flight and there was a white lady, like a very, very clearly white lady who was talking to someone sitting next to her.

[353] And she was like, oh, I love Colombia.

[354] My favorite place to go is Madagin.

[355] And she said it like super, yeah, super flavorful.

[356] But like I could tell she's just.

[357] just a run -on -the -mill white lady.

[358] This isn't a a native who appears to be regular Caucasian.

[359] This is as Caucasian as Caucasian gets as she was just flourishing her language and I said to myself, what an asshole.

[360] But then I thought to myself, is she supposed to say it wrong?

[361] Then you sound like an idiot.

[362] So what do you do?

[363] You can't stray from the good light.

[364] I think French words in particular are difficult to know when to pronounce them because there are so many like, should I say, should I order a croissant?

[365] Right.

[366] Or a croissant, right?

[367] I don't know, I mean, because we had this whole conversation with you around the Men's World Cup that was in Qatar because there was a lot of disagreement about how to pronounce that word.

[368] And I feel like you were on the other side of it in that case.

[369] It's Qatar.

[370] Look, it's Qatar.

[371] If I'm going to do it really right, but you guys can't make those noises.

[372] But that makes me want to punch you in the face when you do it that way.

[373] Exactly.

[374] Pardon me, waiter.

[375] I will have the fillette mignon.

[376] mignan you pronounce half of it okay maybe that's what you do pronounce half of it wrong and half of it right there you go it just sound like an asshole is really all you said i'd probably order something else just to avoid the situation entirely to be honest with you like uh sugatz something easier yeah something easy to pronounce you can point at it at the menu and be like this this one right here let me get this and they're like oh excellent choice my dad is obnoxious with that whenever we go to like a Thai restaurant or Italian restaurant like he has to always do do it in the, like, how it would be said.

[377] Of course, yes.

[378] But that's like not really, it's kind of offensive in today society.

[379] Your dad stopped caring, I mean.

[380] Here's a great example in tennis.

[381] The top three players in the world.

[382] Number one is we talked about him yesterday, Yonix Center, even though it's spelled with a J. We all say Yonik Center, right?

[383] Number two is Novak Djokovic.

[384] Even though it ends of the sea, we'd say Novak Djokovic.

[385] Number three, Stugats is from Spain.

[386] What's his name?

[387] Oh, Carlos Alcares Alcaraz.

[388] No, see, I don't like that.

[389] Mike does that all the time.

[390] I hate it.

[391] Carlos.

[392] Do you hate it because Mike does it?

[393] Do you hate it?

[394] You're showing off.

[395] I mean, it's just, it's Carlos Alcaraz.

[396] I mean, that's what it is.

[397] It's Novak Djokovic.

[398] It's, what's the name of your rum?

[399] Bobencourt.

[400] It's Bobbing core.

[401] And just call it the core.

[402] Just give me a glass of the core.

[403] That's what you do.

[404] I mean, and say, listen, the people who really love it, we just call it the core.

[405] What do you mean by that?

[406] You just point to the bottle of rum.

[407] Oh, there you go.

[408] That's the move.

[409] To give things your own nickname, right?

[410] Yes.

[411] Kind of like, what was that?

[412] George W. Bush used to do that, right?

[413] He couldn't remember names.

[414] He just gave people nicknames.

[415] Hey, Pirates hat.

[416] Or like Tim Apple.

[417] He knows me. Tim Apple.

[418] That's one of my favorites.

[419] Oh, good times.

[420] Barbingcore.

[421] Barbing core.

[422] BBC.

[423] Whoa.

[424] What happened?

[425] Pick it easy.

[426] Billy.

[427] I've seen you and Jessica talk about this a lot.

[428] And I don't know what the hell you're talking about.

[429] The BBC?

[430] Close.

[431] Actually, it's the BBS.

[432] So you've heard them talk.

[433] You've watched them talk, but you haven't heard what it is they're saying?

[434] It was on mute.

[435] I don't pay attention to that.

[436] What are we talking about?

[437] We're talking about the BPS.

[438] The billionaire boat saga.

[439] Oh.

[440] You know what?

[441] I was with one of my friends who's from the UK.

[442] He was in town for some like F1 thing and we got drinks with him the other night and so apparently the billionaire.

[443] Yes.

[444] The billionaire who died in this yacht accident is he has been dubbed as like the British Bill Gates and so I asked my friend I was like hey have you been have you heard about this yacht thing like this billionaire died like is he like a sort of a celebrity and he was like no I've never heard of him before I have no idea what you're talking about and I was like I feel like I've been lied to now.

[445] Really?

[446] Yes, I do.

[447] Unknown, huh?

[448] He was like, I don't even know.

[449] Amongst his own people.

[450] I don't even know who that is.

[451] I'm like, you guys don't like celebrate your billionaires in the UK and like turn them into celebrities.

[452] They do.

[453] Just one family, though.

[454] True.

[455] No one could be bigger than that family.

[456] Oh, it's so dumb.

[457] Such a dumb thing.

[458] I know.

[459] Like, how dare they ever speak ill of us?

[460] Right?

[461] Like, oh, don't get me started on them.

[462] Just because of the royal family?

[463] Yeah.

[464] Like, you guys worship the, you give these people your tax money.

[465] to just live in a big house and travel and be rich.

[466] Like, willingly, you cried when, oh, get out of here.

[467] Get out of here.

[468] Stop sitting down with Oprah, too.

[469] Oprah, leave them alone.

[470] You should like them.

[471] They're the ones that defected.

[472] I don't care.

[473] They defected.

[474] Oh, oh, they poor defected.

[475] They got $500 million to defect.

[476] Oh, my God, we should feel sorry for them.

[477] Oh, Megan Markle.

[478] trying to win a suey here what's going on what is happening here in the middle i was like oh that's dismissal all right but anyway back to the billionaire boat saga billy that was a that was a tongue twister billy we've been texting back and forth about it texting um and what's i found difficult is that i i've tried to like i've tried to understand boat science science and i don't because like there's some people that are saying like a boat this big should never be able to sing that fast and then there's other people that are like yeah actually like it could happen like that the boat might not have just been that seaworthy but i don't know who to believe i think the problem is is that like the boat physicists that are being turned to are on ticot so like you don't actually know their level of expertise on boat physics here's for those of you who are not familiar with the story for those of you who are not familiar with the story so this is what happened a billionaire uh his boat was capsized and then there were five or six people that went missing uh and it was kind of a mystery.

[479] How did this happen?

[480] Stugats immediately said, something's up.

[481] This is fishy.

[482] Inside job.

[483] That's what he said.

[484] Inside job.

[485] He said, there's no way that this just happened.

[486] A billionaire's boat goes out there and all of a sudden the billionaire is missing.

[487] Something's up.

[488] And at the time, we didn't know because we didn't do any research because apparently this guy's a secret billionaire, even amongst his own people.

[489] The more research we did, the more we found out, oh, this person was like in some crazy lawsuit and had a co -conspirator that was involved and then they got off not too long ago after, I think a length of trial spanned over years, whatever, the co -conspirator got hit by a car while going for a run the day before or a couple days before.

[490] So then we said, okay, it seems like something might actually be up here because why would this person get hit by a car on a run and now this other billionaire has disappeared?

[491] So it turns out a water spout hit this boat, which doesn't seem like something you could fabricate, a water spot just coming out of nowhere and hitting this boat.

[492] How could you create bad weather, right?

[493] But only this one boat got hit.

[494] And other people, that were on this boat that went missing, we're also described as, quote, unquote, bad people.

[495] And I think children passed away as well, unfortunately.

[496] So in the days that have been sued since, we've found out that, you know, they found a number of the bodies of the missing, I believe, including the billionaire, has been found, you know, and passed away.

[497] But the question remains, how did this boat sink?

[498] Because, as Jessus pointed out, a lot of the boat physicists out there have pointed out, this should not have happened this way.

[499] This boat should not have just, capsized because basically a water spout hit it, you know, like essentially a water tornado hit this boat and then all of a sudden just flipped over and then these people disappeared.

[500] But there's counterweights.

[501] There's all kinds of things that go into these mega yachts that should prevent this from ever happening.

[502] And Billy, to your point, I asked boat people, I was in QS this weekend for the barbecue cookoff with Roy, ate a lot of ribs and talked a lot of barbecue shop, but also boat shop.

[503] And I talked to some boat people.

[504] And that is, there's no consensus some boat people are like yeah boat should not sink boat that big should not sink that fast and other boat people were like yeah like some of these boats just aren't made well here's what happens though mean who am I supposed to believe when you don't know what's going on you go to the TikTok and you know what the TikTok tells you may have been involved submarines could have been involved in this situation which are like whoa game changer I thought you would like this so then there's the question of who did this why did this happen were submarines involved then another theory that came out was like well submarines probably practical.

[505] But what if someone was drilling holes in the boat?

[506] And then the question becomes sabotage.

[507] Were they drilling from the inside or the outside?

[508] Whoa.

[509] Inside job.

[510] Inside job.

[511] Or outside job that was an inside job.

[512] Could be.

[513] Yes.

[514] The rare.

[515] All the jobs.

[516] Yes.

[517] Oh, we had the appetizer last week, but now it's time to feast.

[541] This is the Dan Lebatar show with the Stugats.

[542] Speaking of jobs, this guy has one on nothing personal with David Samson.

[543] He has a job.

[544] Yes, he does.

[545] It's David Samson.

[546] He joins us every week.

[547] David, before we get to the Marlins calling up Griffin Conine, a name that may tickle some of you older Marlins fans.

[548] Makes me feel old.

[549] it?

[550] Yes.

[551] It makes me feel young again.

[552] It's all over.

[553] It's starting all over again.

[554] Before we get to that, though, David, a billionaire dies on a yacht in the middle of nowhere.

[555] Do you immediately say inside job?

[556] You know, there's a lot going on with that water spout, but I've been speaking to some people.

[557] Oh, wow.

[558] I got some info here.

[559] Here's the status.

[560] There is virtually no way that a water spout turned up out of nowhere and took down this yacht now I say that knowing that somebody wins the lottery sometimes so there's a scintilla of a chance like being hit by lightning but the odds are way better and I'm not this major conspiracy there is but the odds are way better that somebody like pulled the drain plug as though they were in a bathtub.

[561] When you say you've been talking to someone, do you mean someone named T period talk?

[562] Is that who you've been talking to?

[563] I'm talking about T period M period Z period.

[564] Oh!

[565] But they were wrong about Beyonce performing at the DNZ.

[566] They've been wrong forever now.

[567] Yeah, I don't know how credible they are anymore.

[568] It's so terrible.

[569] I was watching that night of the D &C's.

[570] DNC and people were saying who I was with.

[571] It could be it's going to be Taylor Swift.

[572] I said, no, it's not.

[573] There is no way that her handlers are going to have her appear at the convention.

[574] It's just not going to happen.

[575] All right.

[576] It could be what if it's a major Republican who's going to come out as a Democrat?

[577] This is going to be unbelievable glued to the TV minutes, hours.

[578] And you realize it was nothing.

[579] I was despondent because what a waste of time.

[580] It was a little done, right?

[581] no idea.

[582] Samson was part of the beehive.

[583] I mean, I'm just trying to stay hip.

[584] And it's really hard as the years and decades pass to try to evoke hipness.

[585] And so I do what I can.

[586] What do you think happened to that boat then, David?

[587] I think that, listen, strange things happen.

[588] Is it possible the water spout came out of nowhere and took down that yacht with those people on it?

[589] Yeah, but there were some people on there that there were some other people it's sort of like a what's the name a john grishan movie like the firm i kept thinking about the murders that took place on that curbin island with jean hackman and tom cruise and how weird stuff happened when they were out scuba diving that may be a movie that none of you know i've seen no i love it yeah the cayman islands of course the cayman islands of course that's sort of what i envisioned was going on is that it was some nefarious stuff because i want video i want to see what the yacht looks like 150 feet below but by the way it's a tragedy that the daughter died and that anyone died it's that's got to be just a shitty way to go uh david the NFL owners meetings were yesterday and the owners voted to allow private equity to have a stake in NFL teams i think it's up to 10 percent what does this mean for the NFL well this means that your favorite owner is going to take some money off the table and buy some yachts or Picasso's or other businesses they're going to get their own water spout exactly believe me the way NFL teams are worth now the way they're valued these guys can buy their own water spouts and if they can't they'll manufacture them crazy and it's it's a pretty big deal we cover it on the sporting class skipper Pablo and i talked about nothing personal today and let me just give you the summary The NFL is following the lead of the other leagues who have allowed these private equity firms, which is just like a pool of money.

[590] Stu Gods, pretend that you invested money with your friend who took everybody's money and then went out to try to buy parts of different companies, but you've never been able to buy an NFL team before as an investment.

[591] Now it's allowed.

[592] And the reason why the NFL is allowing it is because the teams are worth so much that there's a limit contrary to what many people think at the DNC.

[593] There's a limit to the number of billionaires who can write a check to be a limited partner for an NFL team.

[594] So now this allows a group of people to put money in a fund and have that fund become an investor.

[595] Very common with leagues all around the world, actually.

[596] So, David, explain to me what the downside was.

[597] Why was there a rule against this?

[598] Because there was a view.

[599] There was a rule in the NFL that in order to be an owner, you had to be a natural person, not an entity.

[600] And it made sense when the teams were worth less.

[601] You certainly want a person as the face of the ownership of the franchise, which is why you have something called the control person.

[602] So it's someone you can root against.

[603] It's someone you could boo.

[604] It's someone you can protest against or it's someone you can love.

[605] It's someone to thank the fans when you win a title holding the trophy, getting it for the first time.

[606] And the view was we need someone in our league who represents the team at meetings who can be a part of votes who can be a part of negotiating CBAs we don't want to think about dealing with an entity but then the numbers got so big that all of these teams had a bunch of limited partners and the rule was limited partners had to be people too and then the leagues realized wait a minute we can access way more money which means teams can be worth way more all we have to do is agree that it can be an entity and there are certain teams as you guys know the blue jays the packers the braves are publicly owned but there's someone who's assigned to be the face of that franchise and so really nothing's going to change so there's nothing like nefarious right like because i that's what i got to the NBA uh allowed this a couple of years ago i believe the first example this was the cuttery fund bought into the washington wizards a small percentage and i just i was under the impression that When that rule was basically lifted, and it is the same thing.

[607] It's like 10 % is the max that you can buy into.

[608] There's this, oh, you know, we've lost our innocence sort of thing.

[609] But it just sounds like, hey, here's some money.

[610] Just take it.

[611] And you don't have to worry about this entity being vocal in terms of a meaningful governorship method.

[612] Yeah.

[613] And you're talking about two things, which are interesting, that you're marrying.

[614] And you're talking about sovereign funds and farm.

[615] investment and that's the catari fund is what invested in monumental sports which owns the wizards of course the interesting thing is that a lot of these private equity funds in the NFL approved a group of only eight funds but there is foreign money in these funds so if you really want to be technical and you're really bored and you're trying to just protest for the sake of protesting you could say look my favorite league now is going to allow foreign investment as they try to sports launder and cover up all of the things they do against men, women, and children.

[616] And I get it.

[617] These foreign investment funds are sports laundering.

[618] They are trying to cover up the fact that they do things that are unspeakable.

[619] However, that's sort of the cost of doing business these days.

[620] And all these leagues and all of these individuals have just sort of gotten past it and realized that the amount of money available is simply too great to be ignored.

[621] David one of the things that happened over the last week was Dion Sanders and the University of Colorado basically banning the Denver post columnists who they felt banning him from asking questions from asking questions which is a weird I don't know the whole thing is weird yeah so unacceptable agreed but but who whose place is it to say no no you can't do this is it the AD is it the university president.

[622] Is there a higher authority somewhere that needs to be saying this?

[623] Yeah, I'll give you a higher authority.

[624] His name is Dion Sanders.

[625] Can you imagine that in Dion Sanders contract, there is a provision that says he has the right to agree which media members he talks to.

[626] I've never heard of such a thing.

[627] In all the contracts I've signed with managers, with coaches, with executives, the thought of them thinking they have the power to choose who is silence and who not to.

[628] Do you know how many media members I didn't like because they were mean to me or they were personal or they hated the Marlins?

[629] And we had a guy actually in Miami.

[630] Do you remember Mike Beradino?

[631] Of course.

[632] Yes.

[633] Mike Baradino is an absolute A hat.

[634] And he did stories about us that were so horrible that we did a silent ban of him where I didn't talk to him.

[635] made sure that the GMs didn't talk to him, but we definitely weren't going to be very public.

[636] We'd be off the record.

[637] We'd say, by the way, we're never talking to that guy because of how unfair he is.

[638] This Denver post columnist, he had some nicknames for Dion Sanders.

[639] He's tough on D .N. Sanders.

[640] A hat?

[641] There's no question about it.

[642] You don't, do you know what an A hat?

[643] Is that another old word?

[644] I assume it's an ass hat.

[645] I know what an ass hat is.

[646] But I don't know what an A hat is.

[647] It's, I just didn't want to say ass.

[648] You said shit earlier.

[649] Captain Ahat.

[650] Captain A hat.

[651] May have sunk the yacht.

[652] Too soon, David.

[653] Full circle.

[654] Bringing it full circle.

[655] I just can't imagine the Colorado, the AD, how desperate they were that they signed a contract that allows that.

[656] I can't imagine they went public with the fact that they were doing it.

[657] I think it's inexcusable.

[658] If I am the Denver Post, I am not writing one column inch about the Colorado Buffalo's, not one inch.

[659] If I am other members of the media around Denver, let Colorado basically suck it all the way to the side with no press at all.

[660] Make Dion speak into the abyss of nothing.

[661] But, David, you know that's not going to happen because Colorado gets too many clicks.

[662] But David, like, don't you think the move is to, okay, look, the guy's not going to get quotes from Dion or anyone on the staff.

[663] All right, so now I have, instead of me being able to get the other side, I get to go full bias the way you think I really am and just roast because he's a columnist.

[664] He's not a beat writer.

[665] So he gets to roast Colorado even harder now, doesn't he?

[666] He could.

[667] I mean, it depends what the editor wants.

[668] But yes, of course he could.

[669] But then it becomes personal and then you lose credibility as a columnist.

[670] The whole purpose of being a columnist is that your readers look and say, wow, this is a thoughtful approach to the subject matter.

[671] And if he is just going after Dion for the sake of going after him, that eventually will turn.

[672] turn people off.

[673] You need sort of facts behind it and even some circumstances.

[674] So I don't think that he would do that, nor do I think the Denver Post as a publication would want him to do that.

[675] I just don't agree with the ability of Dion Sanders to do that.

[676] However, the other side is interesting, which is he has the contractual right to do what he did so we shouldn't be upset with him.

[677] It's like being upset with players for signing bad contracts, be upset with the owners who agreed to them not the players who took the money what movie are you reviewing for us this week david so you guys already talked about it today but it was on the list that i sent so now i don't know what to do but i watched the told story about the murder of air mcnair and uh i'm not going to in any way impugn netflix nor the way it looks on my tv that said huh this wasn't very good I didn't learn anything.

[678] I don't expect anyone to watch it.

[679] I did a non -scientific poll of people not in my demographic.

[680] I went to five.

[681] I moved my son into college this weekend.

[682] Oh, congratulations.

[683] Did you cry?

[684] And went out, it's the final time.

[685] Final kid, final year.

[686] Final cry?

[687] It's the what?

[688] The final cry.

[689] Did you cry?

[690] He did cry.

[691] Did you cry?

[692] I don't think he cries.

[693] No. I felt nothing actually.

[694] have you ever cried ever ever you leak oil what happens to you uh bridges of madison county oh great movie yeah i cried when she held onto the handle merrill streep obviously one of the best actresses of all time when she holds on to that movies make i listen to the show stew right but not his family yeah not your family but movies make you cry listen i've been working on this spending tens of thousands of hours trying to figure out why commercials why mean joe green gets a tear in my eye and dropping off a child that college does not and all i'm saying is i don't have an answer for you answer is a new therapist i've gone through so many i don't know i i guess 10 000 hours you should be an expert according to gladwell so here's the thing about steve mcnair none of the 22 -year -old seniors in college they did I didn't know who he was.

[695] I asked about the Super Bowl because I thought everyone knew about the yard short Ram's victory over the Titans.

[696] And it turns out it happened before he was born.

[697] Now I feel old.

[698] And that confused me. And then I did the math and I realized, oh yeah, you were born the year the Marlins won the World Series.

[699] And this was three years prior to that.

[700] Oh, God.

[701] So to me, it's like someone asking me, do you remember the play from the 1965 Super Bowl?

[702] My answer would be, I don't even know who played in the 1965 Super Bowl.

[703] So, of course, they wouldn't know.

[704] And this documentary did nothing that would even garner anybody's interest in the murder.

[705] Here's what happened.

[706] Married, a fair, oh my God, girl goes crazy, shoot some kills herself.

[707] Story at 11.

[708] It's like a Tuesday.

[709] If they rename the series retold, do you think that you'd have a different perspective on it?

[710] Because to Jeremy's point, like maybe their target audience are people that don't actually know the stories to begin with.

[711] And they're just sort of rehashing things that most sports fans are already aware of.

[712] But by naming it untold, they're implying that they're doing like additional reporting that I have not found to be true in any of these.

[713] Well, there's definitely no additional reporting.

[714] And my thing is that if there's a documentary that is a running time below 16.

[715] minutes, I have the feeling that there's nothing good happening.

[716] Now, there are great shorts, but this is sort of the tweener.

[717] And I think that if, I think it has to be 80 minutes or more for someone to say, hey, this is going to go deep.

[718] This is going to give you information you didn't have.

[719] Or this is a compelling story.

[720] And I just don't view the Steve McNair story as compelling.

[721] I didn't when I first knew about it, and I certainly didn't after this document.

[722] There was no Super Bowl in 1965.

[723] Know your Super Bowls, David.

[724] David Sampson, nothing personal.

[725] David Sampson is a show.

[726] NFL championship.
