[3] I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor -in -Chief John Bickley.
[4] It's Wednesday, January 10th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[5] Congress erupted in chaos Wednesday morning when Hunter Biden made a surprise visit to a House Judiciary and Oversight Committee meeting.
[6] That meeting was called to hold him in content.
[7] for refusing to appear for his deposition last month.
[8] Republicans accused the 53 -year -old first son of a PR stunt and for thumbing his nose at lawmakers by showing up unannounced.
[9] Here's South Carolina Congresswoman Nancy Mace.
[10] My first question is who bribed Hunter Biden to be here today?
[11] That's my first question.
[12] Second question, you are the epitome of white privilege, coming into the oversight committee, spitting in our face, ignoring a congressional subpoena to be deposed.
[13] What are you afraid of?
[14] You have no balls to come up here.
[15] Mr. Chairman, point of inquiry.
[16] The lady is recognized.
[17] If the gentle lady wants to hear from Hunter Biden, we can hear from him right now, Mr. Chairman.
[18] Let's take a vote and hear from Hunter Biden.
[19] What are you afraid of?
[20] Hold on.
[21] Hold on.
[22] Order, order.
[23] Are women allowed to speak in here or no?
[24] Are women allowed to speak in here or no?
[25] Do you keep interrupting me?
[26] I'll interrupt the chairman.
[27] I don't know that he's a lady.
[28] I think that Hunter Biden should be arrested right here, right now.
[29] and go straight to jail.
[30] Hunter Biden did not respond to any questions, and when Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green began her line of questioning, he and his attorneys walked out of the hearing, followed by a group of reporters.
[31] Mr. Biden, did you show up to test?
[32] Why did you show up today?
[33] Why did you put your dad on speakerphone?
[34] If he had nothing to do with your business, you put them on speakerphone multiple times to talk to your business partners, why did you Why did you do that?
[35] Georgia District Attorney Fannie Willis, who brought the election interference charges against former President Donald Trump, is accused of being in an improper, romantic relationship with another top prosecutor involved in the case.
[36] Daily Wire reporter Amanda Presta Jocamo has more.
[37] The filing states that Willis hired special prosecutor Nathan Wade, her alleged significant other, as prosecution in the Trump case, and then financially benefited from the relationship through lavish vacations.
[38] Those vacations were allegedly funded using money Wade's firm received from working the case.
[39] Records show that since the beginning of 2022, Wade has received over $650 ,000 in legal fees an amount that either the district attorney or Wade had to authorize.
[40] The motion cite sources close to both the special prosecutor and the district attorney who have confirmed an ongoing relationship between the pair.
[41] It also calls for the disqualification of the district attorney, her office, and Wade from the case.
[42] The motion was filed on behalf of former Trump campaign official Michael Roman, who's a co -defendant in the case.
[43] At least five people have died and hundreds of thousands of Americans remain without power in the wake of extreme weather that spanned much of the country on Tuesday.
[44] As these power storms charged across the U .S., they brought rain, snow, thunder, and even tornadoes in some areas.
[45] Nationwide, over 160 million people were under winter weather advisory from freeze warnings to tornado warnings.
[46] A utility tracker found that over 600 ,000 people between southern Florida and the top of New York State were without power.
[47] Ecuador has declared a state of internal armed conflict after its president ordered the army onto the streets to fight cartel gang members.
[48] Ecuador has seen various chaotic events, from an attack on a university to jail guards being executed by prisoners.
[49] In a now viral clip, hooded gangsters wielding guns and explosives were seen seizing a state TV news studio in the middle of a bruntary.
[50] Here's a bit of that live TV moment.
[51] No one was hurt when the masked men stormed into the TV station and all of the hooded men involved were arrested.
[52] Authorities have not yet said who is behind the TV station takeover or the countless other attacks currently taking place across the South American country.
[53] However, the chaotic events do follow the reported escape of two leaders of Ecuador's most powerful drug gangs.
[54] Currently, a manhunt is underway for both of them.
[55] Peru, which borders Ecuador, has also declared a state of emergency along its northern border due to the unrest.
[56] Attacks by Houthi militants were once again foiled last night, after 18 drones and three missiles launched by the Iran -backed group were shot down by U .S. and UK naval forces in the Red Sea.
[57] Here are the details as Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce.
[58] According to a social media post from CENTCOM, Houthis launched Iranian -designed one -way attack drones, anti -ship cruise missiles, and an anti -ship ballistic missile from Yemen.
[59] CENTCOM says the Houthis were targeting an area where many merchant vessels were passing through the region.
[60] This marks the 26th attack on commercial shipping lines since November.
[61] Last month, the Pentagon announced Operation Prosperity Guardian, a multinational task force that would counter the Houthi attacks.
[62] UK Defense Secretary Grant Shaps says he has no doubt that Iran is pulling the strings.
[63] We call on Tehran, but also directly on the Houthis.
[64] this absolutely must stop.
[65] There will be consequences if it doesn't.
[66] And they have, I'm afraid, failed to heed the warnings issued on the 3rd of January.
[67] We seem to see a drop off after that by a number of different countries, including the UK and the US, for them to stop and to cease its action.
[68] But I'm afraid last night proved they really are not listening.
[69] And the US Coast Card seized over a ton of cocaine Tuesday, estimated to be worth over $32 million on the street.
[70] Officials say the massive cocaine seizure is from two separate incidents which both took place in international waters of the Caribbean Sea and led to the arrest of six smugglers.
[71] The DOJ will be prosecuting the six who were apprehended.
