[1] It's Monday, June 5th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.

[2] House Oversight Chair James Comer announced today that the FBI has refused to hand over the unclassified record that allegedly links then -VP Joe Biden to a pay -for -play bribery scheme with a foreign national.

[3] Comer announced that Congress will now proceed with contempt of Congress hearings this Thursday.

[4] The confidential human source who provided information about the end -for -played, Vice President Biden being involved in a criminal bribery scheme is a trusted, highly credible informant who has been used by the FBI for over 10 years and has been paid over six figures.

[5] These are facts and no about a spin and frankly lies from the White House or congressional Democrats can change this information.

[6] Former Vice President Mike Pence made his run official after filing FEC paperwork to run in the GOP presidential primary.

[7] Pence is expected to officially announce in Iowa on Wednesday.

[8] Here he is on Sunday at Iowa's Roast and Ride.

[9] And I don't have anything to announce today, but I can tell you, when I got time to announce come this Wednesday, I'm announcing in Iowa.

[10] Meanwhile, New Hampshire GOP Governor Chris Sununu announced in the Washington Post that he would not be running in 2024 because, quote, beating Trump is more important.

[12] If we do what we did in 2016, you're going to have somebody win this nomination with 35 % of the Republican support.

[13] That's not where we should be as a party.

[14] That's not where anybody wants to be.

[15] But it's not just somebody for you.

[16] It's Donald Trump.

[17] Well, it is.

[18] But again, it's somebody who is in the past.

[19] So far, one Major League baseball team, the Texas Rangers, has announced that they will not be holding a Pride Night event.

[20] When asked about their decision, the Rangers released the following statement.

[22] in Rangers baseball.

[23] That means in our ballpark, at every game, and in all we do, for both our fans and our employees.

[25] Three bodies, all adult men over the age of 40 were recovered this weekend at the site of an apartment collapse in Davenport, Iowa.

[26] According to officials, the six -story apartment building collapsed last Tuesday, and a rescue operation has been underway around the clock since then.

[33] Donald Trump's attorneys met with the Justice Department today to discuss complaints about the special counsel investigation into the former president's handling of classified documents.

[35] Trump's legal team arrived at the DOJ this morning weeks after accusing Special Counsel Jack Smith of misconduct.

[36] According to reports, Trump's attorneys were to meet with DOJ officials about those accusations, as well as to get a feel for the state of Smith's investigations.

[37] Signs suggests that Smith is nearing a decision on whether to charge Trump over classified documents recovered from Marlago last year.

[38] No details have yet been released from that Monday meeting.

[39] Over the weekend, Trump attacked the DOJ's treatment of Biden and the myriad of a alleged crimes connected to the current president's family.

[40] Austin, Texas has its first serial killer in more than a century, according to authorities.

[41] Last week, police in Texas announced the arrest of 62 -year -old Raul Meza Jr. in connection with two murders.

[42] Meza turned himself in after a statewide manhunt was launched after the May 20th killing of an 80 -year -old, former probation officer Jesse Fraga.

[43] After turning himself in, police say he admitted to an additional murder of 66 -year -old Gloria Lofton in 2019.

[44] Mesa has been in and out of prison for decades, most notably serving time for the rape and murder of an eight -year -old child in the 1980s.

[45] Police say they do not believe he's responsible for the recent series of deaths at Lady Bird Lake.

[46] Local authorities have jailed a tuberculosis patient in Washington state who refused medical treatment for more than a year.

[47] Daily Wire reporter Brandon Dre has the details.

[48] A Washington judge issued an order in May for the unnamed woman to be involuntarily detained for treatment, which is legal under state law.

[49] Pierce County Sheriff Deputies located and detained the woman Thursday, and she is now being housed in Pierce County Jail.

[50] This is the third time in 20 years that Pierce County officials have had to pursue a court order to force tuberculosis treatment.

[51] Indian authorities are searching for what went wrong in a deadly train crash that killed nearly 300 individuals with more than 1 ,000 injured in the eastern Indian state of Odisha on Friday.

[52] Authorities say initial data shows that an electronic signaling system error is the likely cause of the crash.

[53] It's one of the worst train crashes in the country's history.

[54] And torrential rain in Haiti over the weekend caused catastrophic flooding, leaving at least 42 dead, 85 injured, and nearly 14 ,000 houses damaged and many crops ruined.

[55] More than 13 ,000 people were forced to evacuate their homes in the Caribbean Island.
