Giant Bombcast XX
[0] Hey everyone, it's Tuesday, November the 30th, 2010, and you're listening to the Giant Bombcast.
[1] I'm your host, Ryan Davis, joined by Vinny Caravella.
[2] Hi, how are you?
[3] Jeff Gerstman.
[4] It's great to be here.
[5] And Brad Shoemaker!
[6] Hi.
[7] You had all that time, you had all that lead up, and all you could think of was hi and hello alternatingly.
[8] They both took mine.
[9] Jeff is looking – Jeff is now incensed looking at his phone in his Soviet Union hockey jersey.
[10] Penny Marshall drank milk and Pepsi in real life and added it to her character.
[11] Oh, it's like ad -libbing.
[12] She just liked doing it and thought that that would be a thing.
[13] I'm going to open this and see if it tastes like – Wait, hold on.
[14] Context.
[15] What?
[16] I got this can of Milkis here that was sent to us from Korea.
[17] And it says – the translation here says, Milk and cola combination that somehow doesn't curdle the milk.
[18] And, of course, I am reminded of Laverne and Shirley.
[19] Right.
[20] And then Vinny and I were looking at you like, I don't.
[21] That's crazy.
[22] That sounds nuts.
[23] I tried it a few times.
[24] I tried drinking milk and Pepsi.
[25] And that worked out.
[26] So the first couple of times I tried it, I was like, this is all right.
[27] And then I had it one more time.
[28] I was like, this is effing terrible.
[29] And then I never tried it again.
[30] Sounds terrible.
[31] I don't like it.
[32] A creamsicle is about as close to that as I would get.
[33] It sounds like a distant relation of a white Russian to me. Oh, man. Does it taste anything like that?
[34] I see that, but I'm also kind of getting root beer float, like a clear, milky beverage in this can.
[35] Sure.
[36] Kind of broken down, right?
[37] I think it would be both clear and milky.
[38] It's cloudy, I guess I should say.
[39] Yeah, like a melted root beer.
[40] It's like some sort of gastronomical thing where it's just the...
[41] And it's kind of like a cream circle.
[42] I'm saying they engaged an air compressor and some liquid nitrogen.
[43] That's exactly what I'm saying.
[44] It's your deconstructed root beer float.
[45] Some kind of molecular.
[46] Milk and Pepsi.
[47] Molecular gastronomy.
[48] It's got a molecular manipulation going on here.
[49] I feel like I'm going to have to try milk and Pepsi again now after this.
[50] This milk is made by Lotte.
[51] Yeah.
[52] We've wanted you to take a classic, a favorite American staple and deconstruct it.
[53] What have you made for us today, Ryan?
[54] I got milk and Pepsi.
[55] I poured milk into this Pepsi.
[56] And it's milk and Pepsi.
[57] I had to spit it out.
[58] You got milk and Pepsi?
[59] I had to.
[60] Is this store -bought Pepsi?
[61] You have to let the milk rest.
[62] Over here we have a delicate candied Pepsi confit.
[63] And on the side we have milk three ways.
[64] Pack your knives and go fuck it.
[65] These milk pearls and an ice cream foam.
[66] Brian has fucking foams.
[67] God, there's foams.
[68] I'm on my face with that.
[69] I still didn't watch any of it last season.
[70] It was not that good.
[71] No, last season was not that good.
[72] I found myself reading the Twitters of the Voltaggio brothers over the weekend, though.
[73] They don't tweet very well.
[74] Maybe they should join the protest or whatever.
[75] Not the protest.
[76] The celebrity.
[77] The celebrity thing.
[78] Thank you, everybody.
[79] How you doing?
[80] Welcome to all your gossiping.
[81] Hey, it's post -American Thanksgiving.
[82] It's true.
[83] And post -Canadian Thanksgiving.
[84] Yeah, it's long been post.
[85] But no, accurate.
[86] Accurate.
[87] I'm just saying.
[88] Striving for accuracy in all ways.
[89] That's what this podcast has always been devoted to is the truth.
[90] I think it's more pre -Canadian Thanksgiving at this point.
[91] You think you're winding back up for the next one?
[92] It's still post.
[93] Right around the corner.
[94] But it's still post.
[95] School starts next week.
[96] Prove me wrong.
[97] Prove me wrong.
[98] Prove me wrong.
[99] This is pre -post.
[100] Bring a coupon.
[101] A what?
[102] A coupon?
[103] I'm sorry.
[104] A coupon?
[105] Oh, a coupon.
[106] A coupon.
[107] A coupon?
[108] A coupon.
[109] Yeah, I left all my coupons in the wash. Can't help you.
[110] Sorry.
[111] Thanksgiving.
[112] Yeah, we did that.
[113] I thought I was going to get way more done on the game front.
[114] And it's just Assassin's Creed, brother.
[115] Just playing that.
[116] I was dead wrong, by the way.
[117] I did not put in 23 hours before when I said I did.
[118] I saw somebody in the comments saying that it was confusing how the game clock works and that you might be reading it wrong.
[119] Yeah, I was reading it wrong.
[120] So I was actually 23.
[121] Apparently I had stopped playing that game around 11 o 'clock.
[122] Yeah, 11 .30 for like a week.
[123] Yeah.
[124] And also was 23 % done with the game.
[125] So getting weird confirmation on that.
[126] So now I am – I was seven hours at that point, so I must be near 23 now.
[127] Have you gotten your guild yet?
[128] Oh, man. They're great.
[129] Those guys.
[130] They are a great bunch of guys.
[131] They're my guys.
[132] They are – oh, man. They are – like – It's such a stupid mechanic because I feel like it is everything that that game shouldn't be, but it's so much fun.
[133] It's like Smart Bomb.
[134] Yeah, it's a new.
[135] Push this button to destroy everything on screen.
[136] Like, all right, cool.
[137] And I love it because it's like every time I just run after a dude.
[138] You know what?
[139] Fuck this.
[140] He never puts his hands on his knees and pants, but that's what I feel like after it's like, oh, I missed the jump.
[141] Just go, just fucking go kill him.
[142] And they just snap your fingers.
[143] Yeah, here's a little eagle caw.
[144] Yeah, and he is down there.
[145] And it's so gratifying.
[146] Like, yeah, you thought you were going to get away?
[147] No, this guy has been tailing me for the last two hours hiding in vents and haystacks.
[148] Hang out in these doorways and haystacks.
[149] And just jumps out.
[150] Waiting.
[151] Just waiting.
[152] See, I didn't use those guys a whole lot because I always had them out in the field doing dirt to level them up.
[153] I would always keep, like, one or two dudes around just in case I wanted to.
[154] to get nasty, but...
[155] Is there any goal to leveling them up out in the field other than to make them better when they...
[156] They become more savage.
[157] But when they're fighting with you, right?
[158] So if you never use them...
[159] Yeah, exactly.
[160] But you can also send them, as they level up for the field stuff, they can take on more responsibility by themselves.
[161] There's a percentage to the win ratio.
[162] But all of the field work is experience and money.
[163] So you get the money.
[164] Which they top out at level 10, so the experience becomes...
[165] useless at some point you don't need money ever yeah so that's so now at this point i'm kind of there i've like turned that corner where now i'm just collecting tons and tons of money so now i just have like three dudes all and that arrow strike it's great it's so it's just so like ah there's definitely like whole missions where i was like man i just don't want to i don't want to sit here and watch this guard pattern and figure out what i just whatever they're all dead uh I especially like it when...
[166] It gives you a satisfying sense of power in that game.
[167] So much, yeah.
[168] Where you're just like...
[169] point at a guy like, I want that guy to be dead now.
[170] And then just out of nowhere comes these, just your savage ass crew of assassins.
[171] Sometimes riding on a horse and just jump off a horse.
[172] Get on the horse and ride away.
[173] Like, alright, I'm out.
[174] And the greatest thing is you don't take any responsibility for it.
[175] You can be standing five feet away and just walk right by.
[176] Or sometimes I'll just walk in and be like, I'm just going to stealth kill one of these guys because they don't even see me. Just like, tink, tink, tink.
[177] And then I I kind of do the walk over and totally role play.
[178] Like, whoa, what happened here?
[179] This is terrible.
[180] Well, I'm just going to check and see if they're still alive because I need some amber green.
[181] You guys okay?
[182] Did you use the crossbow a lot?
[183] I'm starting to now as I'm getting lazier and lazier.
[184] I'm starting to use poison more too.
[185] I didn't use poison at all and I didn't buy the crossbow until after I beat the game.
[186] Yeah, I'm just getting tired of sneaking around.
[187] So now I'm just like as close as I can get without being detected and picking off these.
[188] And the poison's great because it takes them a while to kind of register so you can hit them with poison and kind of run to the other side.
[189] And they flail around and it'll attract the other guys to them.
[190] You get fast poison.
[191] I got it.
[192] Those shop quests are hard.
[193] They must just start dropping stuff later in the game because I spent way too much time.
[194] I did not complete one shop quest.
[195] I got the fast poison.
[196] That's it so far.
[197] I bought all the treasure maps and was looking for stuff.
[198] I know that they give you some stuff from the missions.
[199] I feel like the rare stuff that I needed for the shop quests I was getting from the assassin missions from sending dudes out on that stuff.
[200] Yeah, so there's that.
[201] And then also the couriers, the dudes that just start taking off running now.
[202] I only saw one of those guys through the entire game.
[203] I think it's a late game thing.
[204] I'm starting to get them now.
[205] but now I'm getting them more frequently.
[206] They have really good stuff on them.
[207] And they're also great for your assassins.
[208] Just like, dude, just running, I'll run after them for like, I don't know, 30 seconds and be like, ah, just kill them.
[209] Just kill them.
[210] It's great.
[211] I had trouble just starting between pickpockets and the couriers.
[212] The couriers don't show up on your map.
[213] So there's no – the little pickpocket icon, the little money bag shows up on your map.
[214] Couriers don't show up on your map at all.
[215] So when they just – dude starts running weird.
[216] It takes me a second because sometimes I've done something.
[217] I don't think I ever got pickpocketed.
[218] They don't pickpocket you necessarily.
[219] We'll just see them kind of running rooftops or just...
[220] Those guys, though, it's so fun to watch them because I literally, I just wait for the guards to pick them off the roof because they'll just hit the rooftops and they'll be like, I'm running!
[221] And the guard is just like, what are you doing?
[222] You're not supposed to be up here.
[223] And they just drop to the ground and I just loot them.
[224] Like, I don't even chase them anymore.
[225] That game's fun.
[226] It is.
[227] It is fun.
[228] And I am spending way too much time on it.
[229] I had a stack of games I was supposed to.
[230] What were you supposed to be playing?
[231] I had the Saboteur.
[232] That's okay.
[233] You're good.
[234] I also had Dante's Inferno.
[235] That's not even a game.
[236] I don't think it's this year.
[237] Saboteur's not even a 10 game.
[238] I can't remember.
[239] We had that conversation last week.
[240] It's definitely 0 -9.
[241] But it's one of those ones I kind of wanted to check out.
[242] It was on sale.
[243] Especially after playing Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.
[244] You extra don't want to play The Saboteur.
[245] I didn't.
[246] And then it worked out that way.
[247] Yeah, so that and Dante's Inferno and Borderlands.
[248] Oh, yeah.
[249] Is that what you were hemming on about?
[250] No, I was just clearing my throat.
[251] Oh, wait, is there something else I'm forgetting?
[252] That seemed like a pretty pregnant little...
[253] We were supposed to play a bunch of Borderlands, and then Vinny didn't play Borderlands.
[254] I did.
[255] I kept missing you, I think, because I saw...
[256] Because you didn't send me a request.
[257] Because you were playing Assassin's Creed the whole time.
[258] I didn't want to interrupt.
[259] I saw you playing Borderlands and thought about jumping in there.
[260] Well, I don't think you get to guilt him, then, if you didn't even send a friend request.
[261] Because if he's knee -deep in it, he's not going to, like, poke his head out and realize, like, oh...
[262] But we had made plans.
[263] We didn't have a date, though.
[264] We had a play date.
[265] Did we?
[266] No. Oh.
[267] We were talking about finishing Borderlands over the break.
[268] I was just sitting there waiting for everything.
[269] I did check you out a couple times and you were like, oh, Brad signed off like nine minutes ago.
[270] I figured you were still going through the stories.
[271] I was.
[272] I have not played any multiplayer in Assassin's Creed.
[273] I don't know if I have an interest in doing it so much.
[274] You'll be able to watch other people play some Assassin's Creed Brotherhood multiplayer this Thursday for a Thursday.
[275] So the Uplay points can unlock the Harlequin.
[276] There's a pun on there somewhere like Heliquin.
[277] There's the Heliquin because the Harlequin was the pre -order bonus.
[278] So the Heliquin is like a weird.
[279] Another Harlequin.
[280] A demonic version of the Harlequin.
[281] So riddle me this, Mr. Davis.
[282] Yeah, there's no functional difference between any of that.
[283] But why would you want to stand out?
[284] You wouldn't stand out.
[285] No, you wouldn't stand out.
[286] Oh, are there other Heliquin in there?
[287] There's eight players, and yeah, there would be other...
[288] Each player looks different, but the world is comprised of those eight models.
[289] And so if you pick Heliquin, it'll make Heliquins around?
[290] Okay, so I didn't realize that.
[291] Can you be a Haystack?
[292] No, that is not one of the playable characters.
[293] You can be Haystack the rapper, though.
[294] I thought that was a wrestler.
[295] No, that's Haystack's Calhoun.
[296] Something.
[297] So, yeah.
[298] Calhoun.
[299] That sounds like a reasonable wrestler last name.
[300] Anyways, TNT.
[301] Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.
[302] Thursday.
[303] You brought a book.
[304] You brought a clip.
[305] GBTNT.
[306] You have a book coming out.
[307] That's it.
[308] Anyways, keep going.
[309] Steam sale.
[310] Nothing.
[311] Nothing.
[312] Goose egg.
[313] Kind of a bust.
[314] All of the...
[315] Jeff, I heard you talking about it a little before, the Black Friday, Cyber Monday stuff.
[316] All of the sales, and I don't know if this is a bigger conversation about the state of this year in video games, but like nothing.
[317] Well, I think there were a ton of great sales happening, but they were all for games that we all already own.
[318] It was like Need for Speed and Fable and Fallout.
[319] They're all in Assassin's Creed.
[320] They're all for sale.
[321] And I'm like, fuck yeah, if this had happened like a month ago.
[322] I would have all these games for super cheap, but I already bought them.
[323] It was all the stuff we were already required to play.
[324] Yeah.
[325] I did miss the Need for Speed one on Amazon, which I thought was just insane.
[326] I mean, it was like $35.
[327] Yeah.
[328] Wow.
[329] For a barely two -week -old game.
[330] Some of these sales are kind of frightening.
[331] Yeah.
[332] Where it's like, what are you trying to recoup?
[333] Wait.
[334] Are these games already dead in the water?
[335] I feel like that soon after release, it has to be more of a loss leader scenario.
[336] I hope that's the case.
[337] Well, I mean, it's no...
[338] Really, the Black Friday thing is some sort of a justification for that.
[339] You do lots of ridiculous sales during that time.
[340] You give away copies of Dance Central at fucking Old Navy.
[341] Is that what happened?
[342] Yeah.
[343] What?
[344] If you bought $25 worth of stuff, you got a copy of Dance Central at Old Navy.
[345] He didn't get a Kinect.
[346] Limited supplies, and he didn't get a Kinect.
[347] But yeah, so that shit happens on Black Friday.
[348] Black Friday's crazy.
[349] It's an aberration.
[350] But what's...
[351] More telling is the way that Amazon is giving out those $10, $15, $20 gift certificates every time you're just buying any random game.
[352] The fact that effectively I had a bunch of games that were brand new that cost me $40 or $50 instead of the requisite $60.
[353] Speaking of buying games, does anyone want to buy a copy of Gran Turismo 5 off of me?
[354] Hey, mine just came today.
[355] Yeah, mine did too, but I bought that collector's edition because I knew it wasn't going to come on time.
[356] Some weather problems or something.
[357] Well, now you've got that limited edition.
[358] Yeah, that sweet keychain.
[359] Dave's got one.
[360] I don't think Drew is so interested.
[361] I'm trying to think of other driving people.
[362] I've got all I need.
[363] $60 flat.
[364] No tax.
[365] Can you drift?
[366] Yeah, there's a whole drift section.
[367] I did put in some time drifting over the break.
[368] I was going to play that as well.
[369] Didn't come.
[370] Just kind of Amazon -ed.
[371] But whatever, it got my $10, $15, whatever they want to throw at me, Amazon.
[372] Just like, hey, I like you for buying games.
[373] Here's another $10.
[374] I also got a copy of Enslaved that showed up today.
[375] Nice.
[376] For $5 or something.
[377] So, yeah, the Gran Turismo stuff I got, and then I really started looking heavily into buying wheels, racing wheels.
[378] Luckily, I think you came over and were like, what are you doing?
[379] Somebody would smack you upside the head.
[380] It's just like seven windows open.
[381] This one from Germany works on everything.
[382] You're like, no, but it's only like $250.
[383] This one's got the fluid ball bearings in it.
[384] It's kind of a lot of money.
[385] I don't know.
[386] I kind of feel like on Gran Turismo.
[387] I haven't played it yet, but I kind of feel like it's almost like Street Fighter where you kind of want the stick, right?
[388] I almost bought another stick.
[389] Those are on sale too.
[390] Those real arcade pros.
[391] Go back and consider how much you've spent on arcade sticks and how much use they get.
[392] Let's talk about the specialized hardware purchases.
[393] Yeah.
[394] Let's talk about it.
[395] But no steering wheel got purchased.
[396] No, but I'm still kind of like, I don't know.
[397] I feel like I'm going to put Gran Turismo on it.
[398] Dave's going to bring his in for the show on Friday, and you can mess with it then and make your decision then.
[399] See, I don't really drive much.
[400] I don't have a car.
[401] Every time I get behind – Yeah, the thought of you behind the wheel of a car is weird to me. I need to practice.
[402] I need to practice on Nuremberg obviously.
[403] Yeah, and Gran Turismo is not the driving teacher that I want you – to warm up on before you start...
[404] Trust me. No, trust me. How was damage unlocked on your car?
[405] Do you unlock damage on this Honda?
[406] How would one prepare for the mean streets of San Francisco?
[407] Crazy taxi, right?
[408] That's the only choice.
[409] Just don't drive a stick.
[410] Yeah.
[411] That'd probably be my first...
[412] Oh, I mean, what video game would prepare you?
[413] Ridge Racer, pretty much.
[414] Vet.
[415] Yes, vet, actually.
[416] Vet would be perfect.
[417] See, I haven't come back to a driving case.
[418] Desert bus.
[419] I vet your selection.
[420] Ladies and gentlemen.
[421] All right, guys.
[422] I'll see you next week.
[423] Give it up.
[424] Nice foley work, Jeff.
[425] I like it?
[426] It sounded like a real door, right?
[427] That was all my fucking mouth.
[428] I like how you let the door handle pop back up and kind of like...
[429] As if you had sort of smacked it and walked out.
[430] It was very convincing.
[431] Thank you.
[432] If only there were some coconut halves that you could use for your footsteps.
[433] That's right.
[434] I'm going to try the door now.
[435] Your podcast sucks.
[436] You're not wrong.
[437] That's what we're talking about.
[438] Driving wheels and arcade stick.
[439] Jeff's outside.
[440] All right.
[441] He's a little drunk.
[442] We'll go collective.
[443] Thank you, Dave.
[444] Again, excellent Dave impression.
[445] Excellent throwing of the boys.
[446] Thank you.
[447] I believed it.
[448] That's what I spent the break today.
[449] I believed.
[450] No games.
[451] Just looking in the mirror, working on your Dave impressions.
[452] Yep.
[453] See, no racing wheel was purchased, but I'm still...
[454] And did you play any Grand?
[455] No, I didn't have the pattern.
[456] That's right, you didn't have it.
[457] I played some Rosetta Stone, did my online interaction.
[458] Tell me about, so I feel like this, let's back this story up a little bit.
[459] Sure.
[460] Drew and I went to, we got contact, you got contact.
[461] We were invited to a Rosetta Stone event.
[462] Last month.
[463] Last month?
[464] No, Adam, it feels like ages ago.
[465] Last month, we were invited to a Rosetta Stone.
[466] How did this happen?
[467] A PR agency that represents certain other game entities.
[468] Okay, all right, okay.
[469] Like people within our business.
[470] Yeah.
[471] I guess we got on the mailing list for Rosetta Stone.
[472] Great.
[473] And the thing was said to me, he said, hey, we're having an event in San Francisco.
[474] And I half -jokingly forwarded it to, I think, to Drew.
[475] Drew, yeah.
[476] Because Drew uses Rosetta Stone.
[477] He's using it to learn German.
[478] He's serious about it.
[479] So I'm like, hey, if you want to go to this Rosetta Stone event, they're going to show off the new Rosetta Stone.
[480] And then he was like, yeah, I want to go to this.
[481] How do we set this up?
[482] What do we do?
[483] And then I was like, ah.
[484] And then like the week of, he's like, well, are we doing this?
[485] All right, Drew, if you want to go.
[486] Let's go.
[487] And then you tried to get me to go and I said I have zero business going to this thing.
[488] And I've used Rosetta Stone before too.
[489] So Drew and I went and it was great.
[490] I really like the new version of Rosetta Stone.
[491] They showed off that new version of Rosetta Stone?
[492] I'm going to shill right here for Rosetta Stone.
[493] Thank you for inviting us to the event.
[494] And it's a great new product and one of the greatest things about it.
[495] And I tell this because the PR agency wound up contacting us.
[496] I was like, are you going to review Rosetta Stone?
[497] I said, we're not qualified to review Rosetta Stone in any way.
[498] We're using it, and that's great.
[499] And we've got a copy of the Japanese one.
[500] Yeah, yeah.
[501] You got me that copy of the Japanese one, which has been sitting in front of my TV for over a week now.
[502] At some point, we should crack it open and take a look.
[503] I do kind of want to – I've talked a lot of game about like I would love to learn Japanese someday.
[504] I placed that on your desk specifically because I thought you would care to – So that's what we were – that's when we went to the event.
[505] We were like, oh, you know, like we've been talking about maybe learning Japanese or whatever.
[506] And they're great here to learn Japanese.
[507] So – I've been using it for Italian for a while.
[508] And one of the new things that's new to Rosetta Stone.
[509] Wouldn't it be like if I was just using it for English?
[510] No, my Italian is terrible.
[511] It's not good at all.
[512] But you have enough that you're able to critique some of the translations in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.
[513] Yes, like Vive la France is not Montreal, which Montreal is way funnier.
[514] Although I did the legwork.
[515] Montreal did not exist until the mid -1600s.
[516] You looked it up?
[517] I did.
[518] Okay.
[519] What part of France are you from in Assassin's Creed?
[520] And Ezio answers Montreal.
[521] He's posing as a French troupe.
[522] But in the Italian version.
[523] But in my game, he was stuck in Altair's armor, so he was not posing as a French troop.
[524] Really?
[525] He didn't change?
[526] I couldn't turn it off.
[527] Oh, no. You could set it, and I would go back and pick Plane Cape or something like that, but he would never change out of it.
[528] So when I got to the missions where he was supposed to be disguised, the play just was broke.
[529] That's kind of sad.
[530] And I couldn't figure out what was going on for a little while.
[531] I was like, wait, why am I?
[532] That's sad.
[533] Oh, okay.
[534] That's actually a cool part.
[535] So on the Rosetta Stone, the new thing is all this online stuff.
[536] And they showed us a little bit of this at the demo.
[537] But you basically sign up for appointments.
[538] You schedule an appointment with a real teacher, like a teacher that's online.
[539] So they give you a list like when do you want to sign up.
[540] And it's an hour long.
[541] And they have videos.
[542] That sounds horrifying.
[543] It's terrifying, but it's great.
[544] So at the end of like your coursework for like the first chapter or first like unit, let's say, you schedule a thing.
[545] And I'm sitting there.
[546] My wife is sitting next to me. I'm like, I'm going to do it.
[547] She's like, you should totally do it.
[548] I'm going to do it tomorrow morning at 930.
[549] So I did it.
[550] I woke up, and it was about 20 after 9, and I click it.
[551] I'm sitting there in my PJs.
[552] My wife's sitting next to me because she's excited for me. I'm nervous.
[553] She's like, this is going to be awesome.
[554] I don't want to do this.
[555] I'm terrible.
[556] And I put on my headphones.
[557] I put on the headset, and the loading bar starts going because it's getting near.
[558] And this little video pops up of this woman who looks as if she's of, let's say, Middle Eastern descent.
[559] I'm like, oh, this is going to be weird.
[560] She doesn't look Italian at all.
[561] And she goes, hi.
[562] Hi, welcome to Rosetta Stone.
[563] I'm your counselor guide, and we just want to go over a few of the rules for going into this thing.
[564] I'm like, okay, a little prerecorded video you get before it starts.
[565] And she's like, are you going to stay in English the entire time and try not to, if you've got to take a break, use the mute button and stuff like that.
[566] And if there's anybody else with you, please be considerate, because you're supposed to be in groups of other people.
[567] Please be considerate.
[568] And then she goes, did you get all that?
[569] Yes.
[570] She's like, great.
[571] I was like, oh, yeah, you're real.
[572] And then she's like, I'm going to push you through to Maria, your teacher.
[573] And then it goes off for a second.
[574] And then Maria comes up in the corner.
[575] And she's like, Chavinson.
[576] And then I freaked out.
[577] I was just like, ah, couldn't talk.
[578] But it was – so I was the only one in there.
[579] But 50 minutes, one -on -one with Maria.
[580] And it was fantastic.
[581] It was great.
[582] I was super nervous and fidgety, and she couldn't see any of that.
[583] She just heard me in that set.
[584] But, you know, I just have to— Wait, you didn't have a webcam set up as well?
[585] They don't let you.
[586] And we asked about that in the thing.
[587] Like, no webcam.
[588] They're like, no. No. No. So they're just getting the voice.
[589] They're just getting the voice.
[590] I see her, which is important because she's pantomiming a lot of stuff.
[591] Yeah.
[592] But, man, learning a language with human contact is the way to go.
[593] It's the only way.
[594] It's the only way, right.
[595] And the fact that they've added that in, and there's more online stuff like that, is a huge step for that product.
[596] Right.
[597] So I can reschedule.
[598] I can do that every day of the week if I wanted to.
[599] Well, it's crazy that it's just part of the software package, that it's not like a subscription.
[600] It is.
[601] It is.
[602] It is an online.
[603] You can buy just the CDs or you can pay the subscription fee for it.
[604] I think it's like 14 months is like $100.
[605] 150 bucks or something like that.
[606] So after that, I was blown away.
[607] I was like, that was fantastic.
[608] That is, if you're going to learn, it was terrifying, but that's what you have to go to, right?
[609] You have to interact with somebody at some point.
[610] And my wife was like, I want it.
[611] So I was like, great, let's go look.
[612] And yeah, we were going to sign her up for her own because I was like, you do it.
[613] She's like, I can't, I don't want to do it.
[614] I want to take her head and do it.
[615] She just wanted to do it on your account.
[616] Yeah, she was just wanting it.
[617] So is there like persistence with that stuff?
[618] Are they like tracking like level four?
[619] Yeah.
[620] Yeah, well, yeah.
[621] Now I'm on Unity.
[622] Have you unlocked perks?
[623] Is there damage yet?
[624] Did you get the red dot?
[625] No, but they do have little achievements that come up in the corner that are just like Vinny's completed an online lesson.
[626] Like Sherilyn's completed getting started and little things that kind of tick up at the bottom there.
[627] Nice.
[628] So all sorts of weird online stuff that have made the product better, but that one -on -one interaction is freaking terrifying.
[629] And I was doing a language which I'm slightly familiar with.
[630] Like if I were doing the Japanese.
[631] Forget it.
[632] I mean they are patient and everything but like something about second language like as an adult interacting with people scares the crap out of me. I just feel like I'm the worst.
[633] I'm talking like an idiot.
[634] I'm talking like an idiot.
[635] I know you're the most patient person in the world.
[636] I'm sorry.
[637] I'm so sorry.
[638] I can't even imagine what this sounds like to you right now.
[639] Like all my gender agreements.
[640] Is good okay?
[641] Right.
[642] It's like, oh, like, OK, yeah.
[643] All right.
[644] It's good.
[645] Is it going to be OK?
[646] Sure.
[647] Yes.
[648] Use your prepositions.
[649] There you go.
[650] But anyway, yeah, I did.
[651] I did a bunch of that.
[652] And I can barely handle English.
[653] It was a lot of fun.
[654] So there you go.
[655] Think about Rosetta Stone for your second language needs.
[656] If you need terrifying experiences, consider Rosetta Stone.
[657] It's really the only way, though.
[658] Like Brad said, it's the only way.
[659] Because when you do the computer stuff, it's like you're speaking to it and you're saying something that should be that you're like, well, this is right.
[660] And the computer is looking for an exact.
[661] A string of words and stuff.
[662] Whereas with the person, they're like, yeah, okay, I see what you're getting at, but here's how you should really do it.
[663] Yeah, I don't know.
[664] That was probably the most fun game I had.
[665] Brotherhood was great.
[666] Getting my heart rate going.
[667] I was going to say, it sounds like you had a fantastic online experience.
[668] I did.
[669] I don't play online games, but I might go back for more.
[670] But Rosetta Stone.
[671] So that was pretty much my thing.
[672] I did not leave the house.
[673] Do you know if Drew's using the new Rosetta Stone for his German or if he's still rocking the old one?
[674] It's funny.
[675] He's worried that installing a new program will overwrite his progress in his old Rosetta Stone.
[676] Okay.
[677] So he has to see if he can import his save, basically, in the new one because he's pretty far away.
[678] He can import your character and you kind of get all the gold and stuff.
[679] He wants to see if he can import his level because you don't want to grind out the beginning stuff again.
[680] Well, it's like an extra $10 to do a server transfer.
[681] So I guess that's fair.
[682] Change your name.
[683] Yeah.
[684] It was fun.
[685] I don't know.
[686] And, you know, I talked to my mother -in -law, who's actually a second language teacher.
[687] And she's like, Rosetta Stone put us all out of work.
[688] Well, I bet she probably hates that they've added this element to it.
[689] She's super nice.
[690] And she was just kind of, you know, she was like, oh, yeah.
[691] you know i'm glad you're using it because you know it gives me a great perspective on you know what's new in it and like you know i talked to a lot of other teachers because she does like uh like what are those things called like big summits or whatever like that and they talk about you know schools that are shutting down their second language program and they're like well we can buy copies of rosetta stone and give those to the kids and stuff like that and it's like is that a good idea or not and she's like okay interesting interesting chagrin to hear that it's not entirely awful Yeah, well, no, not really.
[692] I mean, she's just curious.
[693] She wants to see what's going on.
[694] Mm -hmm.
[695] Well, if you want to do that, fine.
[696] Jeff Gristin.
[697] Hi.
[698] Hello.
[699] How's it going?
[700] It's going all right.
[701] How was your break?
[702] I don't know.
[703] It was all right.
[704] What did you do?
[705] Nothing, kind of.
[706] I don't really do.
[707] That's the best kind of break.
[708] Hey, Brad.
[709] Hi.
[710] What's up?
[711] I did some stuff.
[712] How you doing?
[713] I'm doing right here.
[714] How was your break?
[715] It was pretty good.
[716] Excellent.
[717] Ate some food.
[718] I was going to do it for this week's edition.
[719] All right.
[720] You showed me a table of food that you ate from this weekend.
[721] That's right.
[722] That sound is appropriate.
[723] Kiss.
[724] It's more of my Foley work.
[725] You like that?
[726] Even just summoning the idea of it has made this room smell like a Chinese restaurant.
[727] That's me. There was a whole pig.
[728] Gross.
[729] There.
[730] So you were there?
[731] Yes.
[732] You ate a whole pig for Thanksgiving?
[733] I did.
[734] How many calories?
[735] It's a turkey holiday.
[736] There was turkey there?
[737] Okay, all right.
[738] There are two turkeys, actually.
[739] Two full turkeys there and entire pigs.
[740] The family Thanksgiving thing that I did not go to was like four turkeys and two pigs.
[741] Wow, really?
[742] It's like 120, 130 people.
[743] Holy crap.
[744] Which is why I don't go.
[745] Oh, wow.
[746] Where does one hold something like that?
[747] It's like a park farm.
[748] Wow.
[749] That's a lot of food, though.
[750] Yeah, and not a lot of leftovers.
[751] Wow.
[752] Well, for that many people.
[753] You've got to fight for it.
[754] How can you pass off a plate like that?
[755] Well, we did just like me and my parents did dinner on Sunday.
[756] You didn't go to the Klan meeting?
[757] Whoa.
[758] No, I did not.
[759] The thing I turned down on Thanksgiving.
[760] There's other reasons.
[761] The food is great, but the conversation just gets real.
[762] It's rough.
[763] You end up leaving with a lot of pamphlets.
[764] All they can do is talk about the 49ers.
[765] I just don't want to.
[766] It's a lot of white knuckle bullshit.
[767] Do not bring up the Raiders.
[768] So true.
[769] So true.
[770] You were not interested in leveling your Grand Wizard.
[771] It's already max leveled.
[772] Oh, my God.
[773] I don't even know what we're talking about.
[774] This is terrible.
[775] Jeff, do you have any games to talk about?
[776] I did.
[777] Yeah.
[778] Yeah, sure.
[779] I did before all this.
[780] Yeah.
[781] Now I have to apparently leave.
[782] No longer welcome in this building.
[783] Change my name.
[784] I played Tron Evolution.
[785] The video game.
[786] The official video game of the movie.
[787] Of the movie Tron Legacy.
[788] Of the brand Synergy.
[789] Yeah.
[790] Jeff, I think we agreed in the car this morning those are both terrible names.
[791] They are.
[792] Tron Evolution and Tron Legacy.
[793] I don't think Tron Legacy is really bad.
[794] Yeah, exactly.
[795] I think in a lot of ways they don't want to call it Tron 2 because they don't want to imply that you should see the first movie because I feel like they're going out of their way to make sure that people don't see the first movie.
[796] So how about Tron 2 .0?
[797] Yeah, that's already taken by something else that was terrible.
[798] Anyway.
[799] Remember when it was supposed to be Tratoon?
[800] I was about to say Tratoon.
[801] Like looking back, maybe that was still the best choice.
[802] Maybe that was still the best option.
[803] Anyway, Tron Evolution is actually set before the movie.
[804] Before Tron Legacy.
[805] Before Tron Legacy.
[806] But after Tron.
[807] So you would say it's like the bridge, the evolving of Tron into the evolution.
[808] How much Tron is in Tron Evolution?
[809] How much actual Tron is in Tron Evolution?
[810] How much is the character Tron?
[811] What's that dude's name?
[812] Tron.
[813] No, the actor.
[814] Bruce Boxleitner.
[815] That is a video game name.
[816] It's a fucking great name.
[817] Bruce Boxleitner.
[818] There's not a lot.
[819] There's not a lot.
[820] But that's not...
[821] I don't think that's because of...
[822] Him not wanting to do it.
[823] They actually got Bruce Boxleitner for it.
[824] Yeah.
[825] But the story is such that I don't think Tron will be in the upcoming Tron legacy.
[826] Tron is not...
[827] Are you saying he's not material to...
[828] I'm saying it's called Tron City now.
[829] Like, it's all Tron.
[830] So you don't need Tron.
[831] Got it.
[832] Got it.
[833] To necessarily...
[834] Tron the character is not what this is about.
[835] I thought you were going to say they pulled a Morpheus in the Matrix online kind of thing.
[836] Anyway.
[837] Moving on.
[838] Yeah, so it's the events that are leading up to the new movie, maybe like five years after the old one.
[839] It's like 89.
[840] Oh, wow.
[841] Like seven years after the old movie or something like that.
[842] So basically 20 years before the new film.
[843] And you kind of, you know, like all the trailers and all the stuff is that, you know, is that Kevin Flynn, Jeff Bridges' character, has disappeared.
[844] He's been gone for 20 years.
[845] His son has grown up without a father and his son.
[846] I'm just going to walk in there and he's going to say, how you doing?
[847] Yeah.
[848] Maybe.
[849] I don't know what the trailer is.
[850] I'm paraphrasing the trailer.
[851] Yeah.
[852] Pretty good.
[853] I believed it.
[854] I was like, yeah, totally.
[855] I was there.
[856] You were both Bruce Boxleitner and Jet Bridges or whatever.
[857] That's right.
[858] That's my fully work.
[859] Jet Bridges.
[860] Jet Bridges.
[861] So his name is Sam, not Jet.
[862] They dumped all of that Tron 2 .0 stuff, thankfully.
[863] Yeah, you know, whatever.
[864] Anyway, but I don't think it was Jet.
[865] But it's funny that it's the same concept, that it's still like fucking son of Jeff Bridges coming back.
[866] I mean, what do you do with that?
[867] I know, I know.
[868] What do you do with that?
[869] And also there's a virus involved, because what do you do with that?
[870] There's a virus in the computer world, look out!
[871] Because, yeah, you have to have simple concepts that can be understood.
[872] Yeah.
[873] It's kind of easy to make fun of the grand sweeping concepts, but I actually found myself really appreciating the story side of Tron Evolution for kind of setting the tone for the upcoming movie, for letting you know why there is – and this is stuff – most of it I'd kind of picked up, but it was nice to see it kind of spelled out a little more explicitly and kind of get the character motivations of why there is young Jeff Bridges and old Jeff Bridges.
[874] Stuff like that.
[875] Where has Kevin Flynn been for all these years?
[876] Stuff like that.
[877] And that is explored in the game?
[878] That is the crux of the game.
[879] That's pretty cool.
[880] The events of the game are all about that stuff.
[881] There's a virus that is set loose.
[882] It's a big race war, really.
[883] The world of Tron is...
[884] Is a race war of the kind of regular programs that are referred to as basics.
[885] Okay.
[886] And ISOs, which are programs that evolved out of the sea of simulation.
[887] Whoa.
[888] Which they don't have any users.
[889] They're userless programs.
[890] What are the purposes they serve?
[891] So you have to kill them all.
[892] ISOs.
[893] Right?
[894] Or study them.
[895] So basically it's like the basics versus the ISOs in a lot of ways.
[896] And, you know, it's racial tensions.
[897] It's basically how this stuff plays out.
[898] And some of the programs, some of the basics don't want the ISOs around.
[899] Are they bad, dude?
[900] No, not necessarily.
[901] But when a virus breaks out, it's very easy for someone to blame the ISOs for it.
[902] Really?
[903] So it ends up being kind of an interesting story.
[904] And it's kind of the sort of thing that now I'm – it left me more interested in seeing the movie.
[905] Tell me more about the sea of simulation.
[906] They don't really get into that.
[907] That's something that's in like one of the files you unlock.
[908] It's not a key.
[909] It seems like it would be important if that's where all of the ISOs are just popping out of.
[910] Well, so by the time you get there, the ISOs thing has already happened.
[911] This isn't like, that's not key to the story.
[912] Okay.
[913] So that happened in something called Tron Betrayal, which was a two -issue comic book series.
[914] That they did that was also leading up to all this stuff.
[915] Okay.
[916] Get the impression that they planned a lot of shit to lead up to the movie.
[917] It was a pan -media event.
[918] Yeah, something like that.
[919] So I ended up ordering a copy of that because they did that over the summer or something, but then they released both the issues in one thing.
[920] It's like, well, I'll just get that.
[921] Can you get it on like your iPhone or something?
[922] No. Digital?
[923] No. At least not that I could see.
[924] Come on, Tron.
[925] Did not work on my Kindle, that's for sure.
[926] So I have a physical copy of that thing coming.
[927] So the story side of it's interesting.
[928] The gameplay side, not as much.
[929] It's kind of split between your kind of traversal sections of wall running and wall climbing and stuff like that.
[930] And the camera work's not always great.
[931] And it's satisfying in parts, but generally just kind of eh.
[932] And then the combat is not all that great either.
[933] It's really defensive.
[934] You kind of have to be blocking all the time.
[935] If you're blocking, you'll block any normal attack with a little bit of block damage, but you can...
[936] always counter or parry off of those attacks.
[937] Like timing -based counters?
[938] It's not even timing -based.
[939] It's like as soon as you get hit with a disc when you're blocking, it goes into slow motion, you just hit X and he'll attack.
[940] Is it some kind of like one -hit kill after that?
[941] It's a more damaging attack than your standard disc toss, so it's beneficial to do it.
[942] And the other thing is that they present you with a lot of different enemies that are weak to different stuff, so they give you these kind of different heavy attacks, like a bomb disc and a heavy disc and a stasis disc.
[943] And then present you with the concept that, like, this guy's weak to the stasis disc.
[944] And they tell you that once.
[945] So then it's like, all right, well, what about, I ran into this guy again.
[946] What's he weak to guess?
[947] I don't even remember.
[948] I don't even remember.
[949] There's no, like, encyclopedia or something?
[950] No, there is.
[951] You mean a Troncyclopedia?
[952] Wow.
[953] Lightcyclopedia.
[954] God damn it!
[955] Yeah, that's right.
[956] So, it's, you know, we're back from break.
[957] I know, I know.
[958] Don't start off.
[959] Man, fuck you guys!
[960] I'm out!
[961] Who's gonna push stop on this podcast now that Ryan's gone?
[962] Guys, I'm still here.
[963] Whoa!
[964] I didn't actually leave the room.
[965] Wow.
[966] Yeah, I know.
[967] You of all people should probably not be surprised by that fact.
[968] I'm weirded out over here.
[969] So...
[970] Yeah, so there is some in -game stuff about the enemies and stuff, but you can't actually view it from in the game.
[971] You have to quit all the way out to see it.
[972] Do they explain, like, why there's different discs?
[973] I thought the discs were where your identity live.
[974] I kind of always was confused by the purpose.
[975] Like, they're supposed to be your identity discs, but then you can murder people with them also.
[976] Yeah, well, you know, they're useful as a weapon.
[977] But then why would I have four different identity discs?
[978] You don't.
[979] It's different programming that you encode onto your existing disk.
[980] Do they call it something?
[981] I was going to say, there's programming inside of my program?
[982] Yeah, basically.
[983] Subroutines.
[984] Go back to the original Tron.
[985] Think about when Tron went to go communicate with Alan 1.
[986] Yes.
[987] He got things encoded onto his disk that would help him defeat the MCP.
[988] By a user.
[989] By a user.
[990] This is the same type deal.
[991] So as you play, you level up.
[992] Except for the fact that everything about the...
[993] technology in Tron is kind of horse shit.
[994] Yes.
[995] But putting that aside.
[996] Okay.
[997] Putting that aside and coming with me on this journey.
[998] Just buy into the Tron shit here for a while.
[999] All right.
[1000] All right.
[1001] Fair enough.
[1002] Fair enough.
[1003] You level up, which they call versions.
[1004] So you become like version 16 and version 17 and all that sort of stuff.
[1005] Is there debugging?
[1006] No. There's no hacking minigames, no debugging, nothing like that.
[1007] And you earn megabytes for leveling up.
[1008] That you then spend to upgrade your dude.
[1009] And you get programs like Health Ping 1 .0 that in multiplayer mode will slowly restore your health.
[1010] Megabytes in 89, that's a lot of space.
[1011] Yeah, absolutely.
[1012] I had like a 5 megabyte hard drive.
[1013] Yeah, you're getting like 4 megabytes a level here.
[1014] By the end of it, you are an MFM hard drive full of porno gifts.
[1015] It's the end game.
[1016] That is the end game.
[1017] That's pretty much what happens.
[1018] Yes.
[1019] Dial into a BBS.
[1020] Get a virus.
[1021] Yeah.
[1022] So you're updating your character kind of as you go and buying these upgrades.
[1023] And one of the upgrades you get like pretty late game unless you – well, so it's actually persistent across multiplayer and single player.
[1024] So you would actually probably have a better time playing the single player if you played a ton of multiplayer first and leveled up your dude.
[1025] And went into the single player with that.
[1026] And went into the single player, like level 16 or 17, when you bought the auxiliary power for the stasis disc.
[1027] Oh, because I'm assuming it drains some kind of well of something every time you use it?
[1028] Is that what you're saying?
[1029] Like using, you can't just spam.
[1030] Right, yeah.
[1031] But it's fairly easy to restore that stuff.
[1032] But there are passive powers for each of the discs that you can buy.
[1033] So when I have stasis disc selected now, I turn invisible.
[1034] Oh!
[1035] Which is handy.
[1036] That sounds pretty handy.
[1037] You don't actually turn invisible.
[1038] It's just like all your Tron -ness fades out.
[1039] And they can't see you?
[1040] They can't see you.
[1041] So the awesome and crazy thing about this is you can just do it mid -battle.
[1042] You stop moving and don't get hit for a while.
[1043] They all stop moving.
[1044] Even if they're attacking you?
[1045] Yeah, if they've already seen you.
[1046] It's not like a they see you, they keep attacking.
[1047] You can just stop any fight at any time.
[1048] And what if they just stand there?
[1049] Yeah.
[1050] Some of them will kind of walk around a little bit, but for the most part they just all just freeze.
[1051] But your health doesn't regenerate.
[1052] You have to run over pads or something.
[1053] Right, yeah.
[1054] But you can walk slowly in this state without being visible again.
[1055] So it gives you a chance to kind of punch out of any battle and go refill your health, which there are just some checkpoints in that game that are messed up at lower levels because it doesn't feel like you have enough health.
[1056] to deal with the number of enemies they're throwing you at any given time.
[1057] So it leads to you having to play overly defensively.
[1058] And just sit there and block and block and block and throw the stuff out.
[1059] And it's not.
[1060] So that's a really odd design.
[1061] Well, because the game doesn't scale, right?
[1062] To your level.
[1063] Yeah, I don't think so.
[1064] Opening it up for this online or the multiplayer stuff to come back into the single player must be a weird design issue to deal with.
[1065] Of like, well, some players are going to be level 17 when they come to this.
[1066] And some people are going to be level 2.
[1067] Well, the weird thing is, you know, when you first start the game.
[1068] I don't even think you have any of the secondary disc powers.
[1069] Like, heavy disc is the first one you get, and maybe you do start with that one.
[1070] But I want to say you get that at, like, level two or something like that.
[1071] So you could conceivably start the game with all four disc powers, which you normally, you know, if you just go hit go, you're not going to have.
[1072] So I don't know.
[1073] I don't think they changed the game up for that stuff.
[1074] But I haven't gone back and played more of it after finishing it, so I don't really know how it begins again.
[1075] And there's no kind of, like, Metroid -style.
[1076] You need to use this bomb disc on the linear way through.
[1077] Super linear.
[1078] So there is multiplayer.
[1079] There is multiplayer.
[1080] They are talking about the multiplayer.
[1081] Are you talking about the multiplayer?
[1082] Yeah, I'll talk about the multiplayer.
[1083] You have your persistency that you level up, but then also you kind of build loadout slots like Call of Duty, and you kind of slot these perks.
[1084] Or whatever they call them.
[1085] They're not the perks.
[1086] Disc mods, disc powers.
[1087] And you can slot three of those onto your guy.
[1088] Memory managers.
[1089] Yeah.
[1090] Okay.
[1091] So you put Chem 2.
[1092] DOS 6 .22 on there.
[1093] It's a great game.
[1094] I'm PC DOS man myself.
[1095] Whatever.
[1096] Gross.
[1097] They got weird utilities with that.
[1098] That ain't cool.
[1099] IBM.
[1100] International Business Machines.
[1101] Oh, okay.
[1102] All right, yeah.
[1103] So they've got deathmatch and team deathmatch and zone control modes, and some of the games are big enough maps for you to use the light cycles.
[1104] Oh, yeah, the light cycles.
[1105] Light cycles and tanks.
[1106] Yeah, and there are pads that will spawn tanks, so you can get in the tanks and blow up light cycles.
[1107] Can you pop that light?
[1108] Light tanks.
[1109] Light tanks.
[1110] Can you pop that light cycle anytime you want?
[1111] Not in the single player.
[1112] No, not at all.
[1113] It's like a level thing.
[1114] Yeah, it's like you're in a specific section.
[1115] In the single player, all the light cycle stuff is just set piece racing, get here before time expires type stuff.
[1116] But in the multiplayer, yeah, you can jump out of it at any point.
[1117] You'd want to jump out to control a node and then hop in your light cycle because these maps are really big.
[1118] I think light cycles are great as a thing, but if there's one thing that they've proven time and time again, with all the Tron games they've made over the years and with all the, you know, just fan made light cycle stuff is that you need an overhead view.
[1119] You need an actual tactical view of what the fuck is going on.
[1120] Especially because they're supposed to be really fast.
[1121] Yeah.
[1122] So when you get that behind the back view and you don't really have a view of the map, you have no idea where other people's lines are and you go through your own team's lines, which I think is kind of a weird thing.
[1123] I understand why they would do that, but it just ends up being the situation where I feel like I'm never able to really, actively derez anyone in multiplayer on a light cycle.
[1124] If it does happen, it's because I've been alive for a while, so my line's real long.
[1125] And they just happen to run into it or something like that.
[1126] So that stuff, it's not great.
[1127] The thrill of actually being in a light cycle is still kind of cool.
[1128] And you can use the bumpers to do the 90 degree turns and stuff.
[1129] But you also have analog control?
[1130] Does that mean you can make circles with your line?
[1131] Yep.
[1132] But like the coolest light cycle stuff is actually in the single player game.
[1133] Like there's just one part, like the first part where you get into a light cycle is you racing down a building that is collapsing.
[1134] And it's fucking cool.
[1135] It's like, oh man, this is messed up.
[1136] There's just recognizers everywhere doing bad stuff.
[1137] Recognizers never get used for good.
[1138] Recognizers only ever show up.
[1139] Whenever there's bad things going down, there's a recognizer there.
[1140] Nobody's ever happy to see a recognizer?
[1141] No, no. You're like, oh, thank God the recognizers are here.
[1142] Oh, fuck!
[1143] We gotta get out of here!
[1144] Quick, down this building!
[1145] Yeah, but it's definitely...
[1146] Got its missteps.
[1147] There's some stuff in there that is often baffling.
[1148] I mean a lot of the gameplay stuff that I saw, it seemed very highly derivative of either Assassin's Creed or Prince of Persia.
[1149] I definitely get a lot more Prince of Persia than Assassin's Creed off of it.
[1150] Well, even just the way you were describing the combat of defense -heavy, parry stuff.
[1151] Yeah, now that you mention it.
[1152] That probably sounds more Assassin's Creed.
[1153] But it's not one -hit -kill counter stuff like Assassin's.
[1154] That would actually be – I was going to say that that would make it – if it was more like Assassin's Creed, that would have improved the combat.
[1155] You're probably right.
[1156] But yeah, like the linear nature of the acrobatics and kind of what I've seen of that stuff where it's very level -based, very much like you have to trigger these things before the next door opens, those sorts of – of puzzling elements.
[1157] Yeah, it's got some really cool moments and some moments that I've found to be a total drag.
[1158] Like, I think it ends up being kind of a wash, kind of in the middle.
[1159] If you do really like Tron and care at all about the story of Tron, I think it's pretty cool.
[1160] Worth checking out?
[1161] For that stuff.
[1162] Like, I could see someone checking it out for that stuff.
[1163] But if you're just like, I want an awesome action game, this is not an awesome action game.
[1164] Maybe not the legs on the multiplayer that will keep you coming back.
[1165] I don't necessarily think so.
[1166] That stuff's okay.
[1167] What I saw of it seems sloppy.
[1168] You want a multiplayer experience that's either fucking super precise and high speed like Call of Duty or Battlefield, something like that.
[1169] Or you want something where it just looks cool as shit.
[1170] And I didn't feel like I necessarily got either of those out of the...
[1171] The Tron multiplayer.
[1172] It's one of those things that we were talking about earlier today.
[1173] It's one of those games that two weeks after this comes out, it's going to be a wasteland.
[1174] Who's going to play?
[1175] This is not an addition to the game that's going to keep people from selling it back or anything like that.
[1176] If that's the business reason.
[1177] I'm definitely curious how to check out that single player.
[1178] I think it's worth seeing.
[1179] Like I said, I kind of had a rough idea of what the movie was about, but coming out of the game, I'm like, oh, okay.
[1180] This is happening, and here's why, and this is all that stuff.
[1181] I found that all to be super interesting.
[1182] I can't wait to talk to you after the movie comes out.
[1183] It'll be my first 3D movie.
[1184] Really?
[1185] Ever?
[1186] I mean, of the modern era.
[1187] Of the non -red -blue glasses.
[1188] Post -Captain EO.
[1189] How does having played this game make you feel about the Pirates of the Caribbean cancellation?
[1190] Since it's the same guys making it.
[1191] Same studio.
[1192] Yeah, same studio.
[1193] But, I mean, there was different people largely.
[1194] Yeah, sure.
[1195] You kind of assume that there is common leadership at the top and common culture to some extent.
[1196] Yeah, I don't know.
[1197] It was funny because going back to E3, when you looked at the two games, you were like, Pirates, yeah.
[1198] Tron, I don't know.
[1199] We'll see about Tron.
[1200] We'll see about Tron.
[1201] Tron could be all right.
[1202] It could be pretty bad.
[1203] And it turns out it's about as in the middle as you could get.
[1204] But Pirates was the game that, like, that demo looked cool.
[1205] You were like, oh, man, okay, this is clearly, if they can make a whole game like this, then it'll be okay.
[1206] But my guess is that the rest of the game was not looking like that or something.
[1207] Unfortunate.
[1208] Yeah, yeah, all that pirate stuff is unfortunate, but, you know.
[1209] Jeff Kirshman, do you have anything non -Tron related to bring?
[1210] I ended up watching Tron.
[1211] I went so far down the fucking Tron hole.
[1212] Buying comic books based on Tron.
[1213] Yeah, at one point I was like, man, I have had, so I think it was like the first week I bought my laptop, someone sent me a page, like an instructables page that said, here's how to make like an EM or like EL, like electroluminescent.
[1214] Clothing.
[1215] Really?
[1216] I'm curious how to put Tron tubes on a jacket.
[1217] Jeez.
[1218] I looked at it and said, that's awesome.
[1219] I should do that.
[1220] And it's been bookmarked ever since, and I've never done it.
[1221] Maybe now's the time.
[1222] Now's the time.
[1223] Now's the time.
[1224] We're going to go to Tron screening.
[1225] Do you have to, like, scratch off a lot of, like, glow -in -the -dark watch hands or something?
[1226] No, I don't know what it is.
[1227] There's, like, specific tubing.
[1228] You know, those are, like, snakes, you know, that you crack in the...
[1229] Yeah.
[1230] We used to have those at the roller rink, man. Snakes that you crack?
[1231] Cracking snakes.
[1232] Is this some sort of Long Island drug reference?
[1233] We're going to go crack some snakes, dog.
[1234] Let's go crack a little snake.
[1235] Bring a coupon.
[1236] Bring a coupon.
[1237] We're going to go crack some snakes.
[1238] We're going to talk to the Invisible Man. Bring a coupon.
[1239] Put it on the pizza.
[1240] Put it on the pizza.
[1241] Pippin.
[1242] What else did I play?
[1243] I don't know.
[1244] I ended up playing a bunch of Black Ops.
[1245] Mm -hmm.
[1246] Shot guys.
[1247] Yeah, that maintained.
[1248] Did you play more Gran Turismo?
[1249] Oh, yeah, I did, actually.
[1250] Yeah, I totally did.
[1251] I did play probably about four hours of Gran Turismo or something like that.
[1252] With kids getting excited about driving?
[1253] Yeah.
[1254] That's always good for America.
[1255] None of us.
[1256] None of us.
[1257] Getting excited?
[1258] About that game, yeah.
[1259] I was excited.
[1260] I still am excited.
[1261] I was excited.
[1262] And then parts of that game look real weird.
[1263] Yeah.
[1264] I don't know what's going on with that music, but...
[1265] Yeah, I don't really like any of the menu music.
[1266] Basically, any part of that game where you're not actually driving seems like it was made by crazy people.
[1267] Like it was made by people that haven't played a game in about six years.
[1268] I don't know what happened with some of that stuff.
[1269] And again, I have a menu.
[1270] At one point, I was looking at my car in my garage.
[1271] It was my sick -ass starter Civic that I had spent a bunch of money on to get it up over 200 horsepower.
[1272] Was it still white?
[1273] It was still white.
[1274] Nice.
[1275] And I made my guy blue again also.
[1276] Good.
[1277] I had to start all over because apparently their online servers were on fire.
[1278] I heard that that was a big part of why we were having so much trouble.
[1279] Our quick look is...
[1280] Well, also your time and date were wrong.
[1281] So obviously you can't play video games.
[1282] Why are you trying to even correct time and date?
[1283] Boot that thing up.
[1284] Anyway, so in the garage there was a button marked share with friends.
[1285] And I thought, well, cool.
[1286] I totally want to show everyone on my friends list my ill -ass civic.
[1287] Yeah.
[1288] And then I hit that.
[1289] I didn't really know what it was going to do.
[1290] It didn't really say anywhere like what this did.
[1291] I was like, sure.
[1292] You're going to share with friends.
[1293] Check out my ill -ass Civic.
[1294] But once it was shared, I could no longer drive it.
[1295] Oh, you gave it to friends.
[1296] No, it's shared.
[1297] I don't know what they were seeing, but I don't know if they could drive it or if they could look at it or what the benefit of sharing actually does.
[1298] That part, I don't know.
[1299] But it deleted the car.
[1300] No, but the car was basically there.
[1301] But it was like it would say share with friends was lit up and I could not get into the car.
[1302] Give somebody else the keys.
[1303] I don't know.
[1304] I don't know.
[1305] So then I was like, well, all my other cars are not good enough to win or even enter these races.
[1306] So I need to get my Civic back.
[1307] So I went back there and hit share with friends again and said, like, do you want to stop sharing with friends?
[1308] I said, yes.
[1309] And it would sit there for about, let's say, 30 seconds, 45 seconds and come back and say, the upload failed.
[1310] Great, thanks.
[1311] Would it say that enthusiastically?
[1312] Hey!
[1313] Hey, buddy!
[1314] The upload failed!
[1315] Like the upload of your preference to stop uploading?
[1316] I don't even know.
[1317] I don't even know.
[1318] It was the most bizarre error.
[1319] And I'm like, what is even happening?
[1320] So I turned it off and then tried it a little bit more the next day and was able to get my fucking Civic back.
[1321] Oh, once you stopped?
[1322] Once I stopped sharing it, I could get into it again and actually drive it.
[1323] And then I unlocked the NASCAR stuff and it's just like this zombie Jeff Gordon.
[1324] It's got NASCAR?
[1325] It's got NASCAR.
[1326] This game has kind of everything in it.
[1327] It's got, like, kart racing.
[1328] It's got NASCAR.
[1329] There's some open -wheel stuff in there, I guess.
[1330] Drifting.
[1331] Yeah, there's drift races.
[1332] There's off -road stuff.
[1333] Snowboarding.
[1334] Yeah.
[1335] There's a 2D fighting game in there somewhere.
[1336] Coopas.
[1337] It's got a biplane.
[1338] Yeah, exactly.
[1339] There's Diddy Kong Racing.
[1340] You actually just unlock Diddy Kong Racing.
[1341] I don't know how they swung that, but it's in there.
[1342] Red dot sights.
[1343] Car zombie mode.
[1344] So it just seems like at some point they just said, let's put everything we can think of in this game.
[1345] Yeah.
[1346] And at one point maybe someone along the way said, shouldn't we make sure it's all awesome?
[1347] They're like, no. But it sounds like the driving stuff is pretty awesome.
[1348] It sounds like the behind the wheel.
[1349] The actual behind the wheel.
[1350] When you're in a premium car.
[1351] The street racing in the premium cars.
[1352] Well, whatever.
[1353] I don't drive from cockpit view.
[1354] I don't like it.
[1355] I did hear that it's kind of...
[1356] Kind of a sad state of affairs for people who, like Davis says, he loves cockpit view, but like on those non -premium cars, that's...
[1357] Yeah.
[1358] It's pointless.
[1359] It's got that kind of shit.
[1360] What do you get?
[1361] You don't get, like, custom cockpit art or something?
[1362] Yeah, you don't get any.
[1363] There's no cockpit view.
[1364] You can't even do it.
[1365] I'm not sure because I haven't played it, but that's what it sounds like.
[1366] Yeah, that Civic that I have does not have a cockpit.
[1367] It's just, like, floating cam.
[1368] It's just, like, bumper cam.
[1369] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1370] They've got, like, bumper cam, hood cam, you know, behind the back, like, chase view or whatever, but you wouldn't want that.
[1371] Yeah, so it's like they don't have that.
[1372] Like, at some point, I guess, I don't know.
[1373] I question the decision to go for quantity over quality because it really seems like that's what they did from looking at all the stuff that's available.
[1374] And you look at it and you're like, it's kind of overwhelming because you're like, man, there's all these menus and there's like five menus too many for every single option that I want to do.
[1375] But man, there's a lot in this game.
[1376] But then you kind of get to it and you're like, well, I don't really want to drive a NASCAR.
[1377] like as a half -assed kind of side thing like people that want nascar will go buy the nascar game and there are games out there that do off -road racing better you know so it's like why would you turn to gran turismo for all these specialty types of racing when you've got like dirt right or when you've got you want you got like that style like like those games dedicated to that style of racing are almost always going to end up being more satisfying, I think, than something that is spreading itself so thin.
[1378] But does anyone ever bring that quite the same level of – like I think a lot of people would argue that stuff like dirt is fairly arcade -y.
[1379] I think – As far as the way that they represent – because the thing about Gran Turismo has always been just like pure simulation.
[1380] Like this is just – this is like driving the car.
[1381] This is flight simulator.
[1382] I feel like it's probably best when you're driving actual cars on the actual courses.
[1383] Yeah.
[1384] Like for that, yeah, it's probably unmatched.
[1385] Well, in terms of console games, like iRacing is probably – It's probably better.
[1386] I don't really know.
[1387] I still agree, though, that for Gran Turismo, what I would want from Gran Turismo is closed course, like fucking high -end cars.
[1388] Yeah.
[1389] Those are the factors.
[1390] Well, from what I saw when you guys were playing in the snow, it's like if you compare that to something like dirt, right?
[1391] It's like those guys understand that they want to get their cars dirty.
[1392] There's going to be mud flying everywhere.
[1393] There's going to be stuff on your windshield, all sorts of – all the stuff you want from – Track deformation.
[1394] Yeah, and like when you guys were on the snow, it really did look like – hey, we're making a sim here, like Flight Simulator, and we're not really worried about that stuff.
[1395] We're less concerned about what it looks like, and we're more concerned about putting time -lapse on or something like that.
[1396] We understand that you're going to be basically getting too...
[1397] If you get too close to the ground texture, it's going to look weird, and we never expect you to do that.
[1398] And the puffs of snow that were coming out from the car just looked...
[1399] Like you said, other games that focus on that stuff...
[1400] are going to model that stuff, and that's all we're going to do.
[1401] We have to make the dirt and mud look great.
[1402] Our game is called Dirt.
[1403] Yeah.
[1404] We can't not have good dirt.
[1405] And that stuff looks great.
[1406] And even stuff like Motorstorm.
[1407] That stuff, that's super arcadey.
[1408] You're going through mud and stuff.
[1409] That looks great.
[1410] It means storms.
[1411] Motorized storms.
[1412] I don't know how the handling was, but it looked weird.
[1413] It looked like something.
[1414] It didn't necessarily feel like I was driving on snow.
[1415] It did.
[1416] It was a little slippier, a little looser or something like that, but it didn't feel like a true.
[1417] Off -road racing game.
[1418] I don't know.
[1419] Dave's been playing the shit out of it for review purposes.
[1420] It sounds like he's really enjoying that.
[1421] It sounds like he's really enjoying the part where you drive the cars, but not so much.
[1422] And I've got my copy, and I'm going to jump into it soon, but it's kind of one of the reasons why I'm still on the fence for that wheel.
[1423] And maybe this is idiotic of me, but I kind of feel like I'm just not going to get the proper experience if I don't for some reason.
[1424] They're forcing me to be like, no, this is a sim game.
[1425] Like this isn't, you want to enjoy this properly.
[1426] I still have always just felt like wheels don't go far enough.
[1427] Like they don't feel like in games like that, when I've driven with a wheel, I feel more detached from it than I would with a controller because it's like they get some of the feedback in there, but it's too, you know, then, then all of a sudden it's like, well now I don't have any inertia, you know, now, you know, I'm not in a moving car and, and this, I don't, I don't feel.
[1428] I'm not getting the feedback through the pedals and the wheel and stuff that I would necessarily get out of a real car to the extent that I would get it out of a real car.
[1429] So it doesn't feel like it's enough.
[1430] It's like an uncanny valley of driving controllers or something.
[1431] The closer they get, the more you just notice it doesn't feel right.
[1432] Then you're just noticing the interface.
[1433] With a controller, it's kind of more invisible.
[1434] Right.
[1435] You use a controller to play everything.
[1436] It's more abstracted, but that doesn't...
[1437] I saw, when I was looking about getting the wheel stuff, I saw somebody who had said they had mapped the gear shift onto the right analog stick for Gran Turismo.
[1438] And I thought, that's pretty genius.
[1439] That sounds like a great idea.
[1440] Because that's the thing, like, with a...
[1441] I hate shifting on the shoulders.
[1442] Like, kind of climbing up, climbing up.
[1443] Yeah.
[1444] But maybe on the thumbstick it'll be fun.
[1445] I don't know.
[1446] I think different people are going to want different things out of a racing game.
[1447] And I think there's a real specific crowd of people that...
[1448] Gran Turismo is exactly what they want, but that seems like, now more than ever, that seems like a narrow group.
[1449] I think that UI stuff is a real turnoff.
[1450] It's crazy.
[1451] Yeah.
[1452] It's crazy.
[1453] It is baffling, like just nested menus and just like the layout of menus on a screen.
[1454] Try going to the options menu sometime and look at all the wheel stuff.
[1455] Yeah.
[1456] And look at how they set it up.
[1457] It's like there are different options on just like main menu for controllers or whatever for every type of wheel they officially support, player one and player two.
[1458] So it's like I need to set player two's Logitech G25 settings.
[1459] And that's in there as a separate whole menu.
[1460] It's like why not just have like wheel settings and then go in there and pick which type of wheel you have.
[1461] They bury stuff when they shouldn't and they expose it when they shouldn't.
[1462] It's very weird.
[1463] It's weird installing.
[1464] A weird thing to critique a game on, but something that was, I think, pretty noticeable.
[1465] Yeah.
[1466] I'm just like, I don't know where to go.
[1467] And also the installing.
[1468] I'm installing.
[1469] When you start the install, it says, this will take about 20 minutes.
[1470] Yeah.
[1471] And it says that for about 30 minutes.
[1472] Well, then the fact that it never loads, it just installs.
[1473] I think it's kind of funny.
[1474] Like watching that quickly, the feedback is...
[1475] Even after you do that install, like every loading screen still just says installing.
[1476] Right.
[1477] So it's like installing more after that.
[1478] It's like they never wanted to say loading.
[1479] It's a trick of the mind.
[1480] Just never say loading.
[1481] They never can complain about load times.
[1482] It's just installing.
[1483] Solid snake standing there smoking a cigarette.
[1484] You don't even know what's happening.
[1485] If they had done that, if they just had solid snake standing there smoking a cigarette, that would be all for it.
[1486] If they'd just been in a car spinning donuts.
[1487] But sometimes it seems like the screen just hangs.
[1488] Yeah.
[1489] And it's just like, well, I assume this is loading.
[1490] Probably kind of the major loads.
[1491] It'll fade out to that, like, transparent GT logo.
[1492] But no progress bar, right?
[1493] No progress bar, nothing like that.
[1494] It just kind of sits there for a bit.
[1495] It's just like, hang out.
[1496] Listen to this smooth jazz.
[1497] I've got some bossa nova for you coming up later.
[1498] That's probably the thing that bums me out the most about the jazz.
[1499] Jazz is great.
[1500] This is bad jazz.
[1501] You don't like smooth jazz?
[1502] No, not at all.
[1503] There's really great jazz.
[1504] I like J -jazz.
[1505] It's my favorite jazz.
[1506] Japanese jazz.
[1507] Smooth J -jazz.
[1508] Smooth J -jazz.
[1509] J -smooth J -jazz.
[1510] It's Japanese smooth and it's Japanese jazz.
[1511] It's like the worst.
[1512] Yeah, J -Smooth Jazz, isn't that the new cartoon cat that Paul Abdul's rapping with?
[1513] MC Scat Cat's out.
[1514] Yeah, he got arrested for that time.
[1515] J -Smooth Jazz is in.
[1516] But I like to smoke!
[1517] It's just like really elevator music.
[1518] It just sounds like the dentist office elevator.
[1519] I will say this.
[1520] I think it sounds like what I would expect to hear in the lobby of a high -end car dealership.
[1521] I don't even like it.
[1522] If I walked into the Jaguar dealership in San Francisco, it's kind of what I would expect to hear.
[1523] So I think that it matches that.
[1524] It fits the car catalog vibe that they kind of want that whole game to give off.
[1525] That doesn't make it not.
[1526] Fucking really terrible.
[1527] But it seems to me appropriate.
[1528] Some of this stuff has been in previous Gran Turismo games, but I feel like even with Prologue, they rein it in.
[1529] They rein a lot of that stuff in and make it relatively easy to get around and relatively easy to...
[1530] The car catalog thing I think worked a lot better even in Prologue than it does here.
[1531] Here it just doesn't...
[1532] It's like the car models just take so much time to appear and all that stuff.
[1533] It's hard not to just sit there and notice every little thing because it gives you plenty of time to notice it.
[1534] You can't stream any music off your hard drive or didn't seem like it?
[1535] I don't know.
[1536] I don't know if the PS3 can do that.
[1537] Certain specific games can.
[1538] Do they even let you play music while you're driving?
[1539] I think they actually do let you pull your own music for the game.
[1540] I want to say I saw that.
[1541] You have to unlock that.
[1542] That's level 40.
[1543] I've heard some stuff about the Japanese version having also completely different music in it.
[1544] That's par for the course.
[1545] It's got metal.
[1546] The best music that Gran Turismo's ever had has been the car wash music in the Japanese version of, I want to say, the first Gran Turismo.
[1547] That's been the best.
[1548] They have car washing in this, but they need to bring back the original car wash music.
[1549] I'm unfamiliar with this, too.
[1550] What do you do during a car wash part?
[1551] It's been...
[1552] Well, actually, in the first...
[1553] Car wash?
[1554] No, that'd be good.
[1555] But no, they just have their own little car wash theme.
[1556] Do you sit inside the car during the car wash?
[1557] No, you do not.
[1558] This is not a first -person car wash. In this, they actually show dudes wiping your car down real quick.
[1559] You can also change the oil.
[1560] They show a guy changing oil?
[1561] I don't know.
[1562] I didn't change the oil.
[1563] It should always change the oil.
[1564] It costs money.
[1565] It costs money to wash the car, too.
[1566] Any headway on the head tracking stuff?
[1567] It's in there.
[1568] You didn't get to mess with any of that?
[1569] No, I didn't.
[1570] Turn it on.
[1571] Online reports from people say it's not so hot.
[1572] But I don't know.
[1573] I haven't tried that stuff since E3 where I didn't necessarily think it was all that cool.
[1574] I can't wait to dig in.
[1575] I want to check it out.
[1576] You can't turn with a move controller?
[1577] No. No. Strapped to the top of your head?
[1578] God, no. Why don't you even just turn?
[1579] I'm holding a steering wheel.
[1580] But I've got two move controllers in my hands.
[1581] Don't move your feet.
[1582] Just punch.
[1583] Danny Trejo's going to drive this car.
[1584] Yeah.
[1585] I don't know.
[1586] I'm still very curious about it.
[1587] About Gran Turismo 5.
[1588] Do you think they'll make another one?
[1589] Yeah.
[1590] They have to, right?
[1591] I don't know.
[1592] Do you think they'll make another one?
[1593] Yeah.
[1594] I don't know.
[1595] There's some quote like the week before that this had actually shipped where a dude from Polyphony was saying, yeah, we're thinking about Gran Turismo 6.
[1596] Like, no, you're not.
[1597] I bet this game sells well.
[1598] Again, I have my copy sitting there ready to go.
[1599] Hell, I bought two of them.
[1600] Yeah, and it's huge in Europe.
[1601] You guys are all part of the problem.
[1602] I bet it's really big in Japan.
[1603] I'm sure it's huge in Europe, and I bet it'll sell decently in the States.
[1604] It probably has the best name recognition of any.
[1605] Yeah.
[1606] racing game out there for video games yes it's not like there's a ton of competition for serious racing games either so you know if you're any kind of racing games that's true yeah if you're like sitting there going like well i don't really care about need for speed because it's for kids yeah then this is kind of it this and forza and They're all you get, so pick one or the other.
[1607] My wonder is, will it sell what they think it will sell?
[1608] I think it'll do fine, but I wonder if it'll sell.
[1609] I don't even know what they would think that that game should sell at this point, considering how much time has gone.
[1610] What kind of costs are there to recoup after six years of development?
[1611] I don't know.
[1612] I don't know.
[1613] It kind of doesn't matter.
[1614] I don't think that you can...
[1615] I don't know.
[1616] I don't think you can think that way.
[1617] I think when you're talking about, you know, kind of a prestige title like this, this isn't.
[1618] And how long have they actually been working on it?
[1619] Like, it's been six years since the last game, but it doesn't mean they just, like, one week later went like, all right, let's go.
[1620] That's not, like, full team ramp up for six years.
[1621] I'm sure there's probably, like, some dudes sitting around thinking about, like, when this PlayStation 3 comes out, we're going to want to do this.
[1622] You know what I like are BMWs.
[1623] I like BMWs, too.
[1624] You guys want to take some microphones out and put them under BMWs?
[1625] Let's go to BMW town.
[1626] All right.
[1627] No, I also like Audis.
[1628] Do you want to take some microphones out and put them under an Audi?
[1629] Yeah, let's do that.
[1630] Let's go buy some Audis.
[1631] We got all that GT4 money.
[1632] Yeah, we got the GT4 cash.
[1633] Let's go buy some Audis.
[1634] And some really good microphones.
[1635] We need new microphones.
[1636] Those last microphones we used are shut.
[1637] And then it was like a year ago.
[1638] They were like.
[1639] We can't record all these cars.
[1640] We recorded as many cars as we could already.
[1641] We recorded a bunch of cars with our old microphones.
[1642] We'll just use those.
[1643] How about we just bring those in?
[1644] And how's our cockpit guy doing?
[1645] No, seriously, how's he doing?
[1646] How many cars has he done?
[1647] Five, six?
[1648] We've only got the one guy.
[1649] All right, so we should have a meeting.
[1650] We can't put cockpits into all these games.
[1651] I think it's okay if the car logo license plate on this car looks like it fell out of a PlayStation 2.
[1652] Who's going to fight me on this?
[1653] You guys want to ship this game, right?
[1654] Let's go with it.
[1655] Listen, we can do these cars.
[1656] We can ship this game with a decent amount of cars.
[1657] Or watch this.
[1658] Do the import thing.
[1659] We import all the old cars from all the old games.
[1660] Boom.
[1661] Done.
[1662] Or we can do that.
[1663] What do you think?
[1664] Do it.
[1665] Go, go, go, go, go, go.
[1666] Want to go test out for some more Audis?
[1667] Absolutely.
[1668] Get the microphones.
[1669] GG6.
[1670] And scene.
[1671] Our little playlist on the development of Gran Turismo 5.
[1672] Thank you for joining us.
[1673] The preceding was a work of fiction.
[1674] Created by people with multiple religious beliefs.
[1675] Brett Shoemaker.
[1676] Borderlands.
[1677] Borderlands?
[1678] What?
[1679] Now you're talking.
[1680] More like mortar.
[1681] I got nothing.
[1682] What's up with Borderlands?
[1683] My girlfriend calls it Boringlands.
[1684] Ouch.
[1685] She hates it.
[1686] Really?
[1687] She does not.
[1688] It doesn't seem like a game to watch.
[1689] It can't be a pleasant game to watch at all.
[1690] It is a punishing game to watch.
[1691] It's a pretty awesome game to play until the end when it...
[1692] fucking sucks.
[1693] Yeah, you've now experienced the full arc. Now I know why it got the score that it got.
[1694] Like, man, I love this game, but oh, it's...
[1695] Now I agree with everything you said about that game a year ago.
[1696] Yeah, dude.
[1697] The Rack Hive and that final boss fight.
[1698] Yeah, so I had left off somewhere in New Haven, like, Rest Commons, a couple hours before the Rack Hive.
[1699] No thanks to Vinny.
[1700] Dude, I could not have been more online.
[1701] I made it through the end of the game.
[1702] You could have said anything.
[1703] I could have.
[1704] Me?
[1705] No, he could have said anything.
[1706] I didn't want to interrupt your plowing through the story of that game.
[1707] Yeah, me and a buddy from back home played through the end of the regular game.
[1708] Yeah.
[1709] Who?
[1710] Mark?
[1711] Yes.
[1712] Okay.
[1713] Opened the vault.
[1714] Yep.
[1715] Man. Yeah, the giant alien vagina that you fight at the end of that game is pretty terrible.
[1716] If I had been you, if I had bought that game when it came out and played all the way through it and that's all there was, I've got four DLC packs to play.
[1717] Right, yeah.
[1718] But when that game was new...
[1719] When that game was new, if you got to that point and that was all there was and it was either play through all of it again...
[1720] I bought the archive by standing still.
[1721] By standing still and pushing the trigger over and over again.
[1722] Two consecutive bosses at the end of the game.
[1723] That's all you do.
[1724] Yeah, just so much room for improvement.
[1725] Yeah.
[1726] So you still have all the DLC.
[1727] Yeah, yeah.
[1728] So make me feel good about playing DLC.
[1729] Well, you're like level 12 or something.
[1730] Let's do it.
[1731] Bring me up.
[1732] All right.
[1733] I don't even know if I'm level 12.
[1734] You want me to power level you?
[1735] Can you do that?
[1736] I'm pretty low too.
[1737] Hey, you want to finish the game?
[1738] Yeah, let's go.
[1739] Let's go finish the game.
[1740] Let's make an appointment.
[1741] Okay.
[1742] Message me. I will.
[1743] Okay.
[1744] I'll send you an invite.
[1745] You can play through.
[1746] I still need to finish Borderlands.
[1747] Man, me too.
[1748] I heard that game's pretty good.
[1749] It's not bad.
[1750] There's a lot of room for improvement should they make a sequel.
[1751] Were you playing solo?
[1752] No, it was me. I'm sorry, you already answered that question.
[1753] I have a soldier.
[1754] Soldier?
[1755] Friend had a hunter.
[1756] The bird.
[1757] Everyone has a soldier.
[1758] I've got a soldier.
[1759] I've got a soldier.
[1760] I think, yeah, Drew's got a soldier.
[1761] You've got a soldier.
[1762] Jeff's definitely got a soldier.
[1763] Jeff's got like eight soldiers.
[1764] Lots of soldiering here.
[1765] So, yeah, I mean, I guess since that...
[1766] My speaker's going hammer.
[1767] Great.
[1768] Since that Game of the Year edition is new -ish, I guess, like, how to play the DLC is kind of a pertinent topic.
[1769] And also, I need to know, so tell me. Well, you mean like what order to play?
[1770] I think you could totally just jump into it now and play through one if you want to.
[1771] Yeah, any order you want.
[1772] It's not like General Knox is right after the end of the main game.
[1773] Right, it sort of doesn't matter.
[1774] It's all separate enough to where you could play General Knox without having finished the main game.
[1775] But General Knox was the last one that came out.
[1776] Well, Claptrap was the last one.
[1777] Oh, Claptrap, Claptrap, right, right, right.
[1778] But General Knox is the one they positioned as kind of like the continuation of the main game.
[1779] That was the one that had the level cap raised and all that stuff.
[1780] Yeah, but at the same time, that stuff scales, so you could kind of play it whenever.
[1781] And in addition to that, the way they've written it, all those things kind of take place slightly out of fiction or something like that.
[1782] They're all set as goofy stories that you're not really sure where they take place or when they take place.
[1783] I guess they do kind of mention it's after the vault has been opened.
[1784] But the Zombie Island stuff seems like a complete fucking fictional sidebar.
[1785] It's like they kind of have story.
[1786] Yeah.
[1787] None of the story stuff matters in any of that stuff for the most part.
[1788] Say that about the main game as well.
[1789] Yeah.
[1790] It's kind of just like level up, quest, shoot.
[1791] Level up.
[1792] Now that you finish the main game, you're fine to play any of that DLC in any order.
[1793] But if someone said, I didn't want to finish the main game, but I wouldn't play all this stuff, I wouldn't go like, oh, you did it wrong.
[1794] It's fine.
[1795] But some references to late game main quest stuff are made in some of those DLC packs, but not references that actually matter.
[1796] All right.
[1797] So that was your whole break?
[1798] No, I played other stuff, but it's all stuff that's been discussed ad nauseum.
[1799] Tell me. Need for Speed, Hot for Spursuit.
[1800] Yeah, you like it?
[1801] Thanks for teaching me how to drift.
[1802] Oh, did you figure it out?
[1803] Man, I can totally play that game now.
[1804] It's awesome.
[1805] I beat some of Jeff's times.
[1806] I was so excited.
[1807] Great.
[1808] Oh, man. And also, there's, like, you and maybe two other people on my entire friends list who are still doing the events that I'm doing now.
[1809] Oh.
[1810] Like, I would love to see, I'm sure EA's got their internal data of, like, here's all the people that started the game.
[1811] It's like, what is the number of people that completed this event?
[1812] Yeah, because I checked.
[1813] I've got, like, close to 30 people on my friends list playing that game.
[1814] Wow.
[1815] I'm like level seven as a cop, and it's you, Justin, like maybe one other dude, and Rich, on the leaderboards, and me, and that's it.
[1816] At level seven, that's not even like halfway through one half of the progression.
[1817] That's crazy.
[1818] I think it's, you know, hopefully it's because people are just really digging the online, because the online is really good.
[1819] It is, it is fun.
[1820] Well, it's also like that single player is structured in such a way, like I've only played a couple hours of it, but...
[1821] between the cop progression and the racer progression, it would be easy for you to get half a level up in cop stuff and decide, all right, I'm just going to go and do some racer stuff for a while.
[1822] That's fair.
[1823] Yeah, I'm level 10 in both, I think.
[1824] Oh, really?
[1825] I decided to just min -max.
[1826] I'm just playing straight cop right now.
[1827] I found the cops way more fun to play as.
[1828] I did too.
[1829] At least right off the bat.
[1830] Like the equipment is – like the EMP and all that stuff.
[1831] I know you get some of that stuff as a racer, but it's a lot heavier on the cop side.
[1832] Well, it's just that it feels more like burnout when you're playing a cop.
[1833] Kind of, yeah.
[1834] It's like stop the car.
[1835] How do you stop the car?
[1836] Wreck the car.
[1837] Oh, okay.
[1838] All right.
[1839] Yeah.
[1840] Oh, I played – okay, I know how to play this game then.
[1841] We're good.
[1842] Give me that heavy.
[1843] And also I get to drive the Crown Vic.
[1844] And more than anything, I love driving that fucking – that Interceptor.
[1845] Beautiful car.
[1846] That boat.
[1847] Yeah.
[1848] I think I was mostly driving a 370Z cop car.
[1849] Not effective for taking people back to jail.
[1850] So you wreck them.
[1851] Don't have to.
[1852] Gotta kill them.
[1853] In a body bag.
[1854] Knock them off this bridge.
[1855] That online really is a lot of fun.
[1856] I wish that you spent less time, this is like a common theme in driving games now, way less time in menus than you do.
[1857] I feel like the time that you're not racing in that game is excessive.
[1858] Yeah, the menu for the career stuff I feel is not great because it is so focused about beating your friends' times and stuff like that.
[1859] If you don't want to do that and you just want to finish events and all that, it's not always easy to dig through the map and go to the ones you haven't played.
[1860] I wish that there was just a, here's what the next thing is.
[1861] Yeah, yeah.
[1862] Play next.
[1863] Makes you miss Burnout Paradise.
[1864] Yeah.
[1865] Anyway.
[1866] Dead Nation.
[1867] Let's talk about Dead Nation.
[1868] Real quick, Vinny played some Dead Nation.
[1869] Yeah, with you.
[1870] I don't know anything about Dead Nation.
[1871] It's Housemarque.
[1872] It's out today.
[1873] It's Housemarque, the guys who did Super Stardust HD.
[1874] It's on the police station network.
[1875] Is it in 3D?
[1876] I don't know, actually.
[1877] I don't think so.
[1878] I don't remember seeing any 3D option.
[1879] This game does not run at 60 frames a second like Stardust did, so I don't know if it would really lend itself to that so much.
[1880] It's a top -down dual joystick zombie shooter, and it's pretty good.
[1881] How is it different from Burn Zombie Burn?
[1882] Well, that is a super, like, cartoony, arcadey sort of high -score chase.
[1883] And this is, like, kind of, like, lightly story -driven.
[1884] Oh, is it, like, level -based?
[1885] Like, level -based and with a, like, sort of character development progression.
[1886] Like comic panels or stuff.
[1887] Yeah, it's, like, graphic novel -looking motion comic stuff for the story.
[1888] I mean, the story is basically whatever.
[1889] It's Zambies!
[1890] The whole thing feels like Left 4 Dead.
[1891] There's, like, boomer rip -offs and stuff like that.
[1892] From, like, a top -down...
[1893] Yeah, but from a top -down perspective.
[1894] It's, like, Alien Swarm.
[1895] Is that the PC one?
[1896] What was the PC?
[1897] The Valve game, I guess.
[1898] little bit like that that's what it reminded me of like that graphic style that was like yeah yeah yeah that game is like scenario based though this is very linear go through level one then level two uh it's but it's got two -player co -op online uh which is cool and like the persistence of leveling up yeah like you you basically unlock lots of new weapons and a bunch of upgrades for them and different pieces of armor and stuff but uh shoot the hell out of some zombies yeah but the a lot of the particulars of the combat design are really off -putting to me Like the super far out camera, like everything is really small, but everything's also super dark, so it's really hard to see what's attacking you and where it's coming from.
[1899] Zombies, man. Yeah, you know, I guess.
[1900] Ain't going to wear flashlights on their head.
[1901] Yeah.
[1902] It's got to be ready.
[1903] Unless they were miners before.
[1904] Yeah, that's a different game.
[1905] There are, let's see, there have been hazmat zombies, cop zombies, clown zombies.
[1906] I think the hazmat...
[1907] These all sound like Left 4 Dead zombies.
[1908] I know.
[1909] It all feels like you end up in a carnival at one point, and that's where the clown zombies come in.
[1910] Of course.
[1911] I bought Left 4 Dead 2 for $5.
[1912] During that steam sale?
[1913] During that steam sale.
[1914] I didn't have that.
[1915] That's cheaper than this.
[1916] We should just play that.
[1917] I don't really want to play Leifer Dead 2.
[1918] I bought Leifer Dead 2 for super cheap a while ago, and I still haven't.
[1919] Oh, Leifer Dead 2 is really good.
[1920] I know.
[1921] I played it again not too long ago.
[1922] You want to play some Leifer Dead 2?
[1923] After our Borderlands?
[1924] After our Borderlands?
[1925] Sure, yeah.
[1926] Then we'll play Fable 2 co -op.
[1927] No. I don't want to do that.
[1928] Oh yeah, and then I got all the gnomes in Fable 3.
[1929] Did you?
[1930] God, fuck that game.
[1931] Never playing that game again.
[1932] I thought I saw someone say that if you wait like 20 minutes or sleep for the equivalent of 20 days or something, I saw that too.
[1933] Yeah, you would get all the people back.
[1934] Did you wind up getting people back?
[1935] I thought you had to renovate the houses as well.
[1936] I didn't manually make my guys sleep over and over, but I'd certainly like passed a few days in game time getting the gnomes and nothing ever happened.
[1937] There are still dead bodies lying all over the place in my world.
[1938] Not only are no living people come back, but...
[1939] You didn't get that in yours?
[1940] No. Really?
[1941] I got like – it wasn't until after you mentioned it because I didn't really have any – for one thing, the expressions in Fable 3 are fucking useless and dumb.
[1942] Like interactions?
[1943] Right.
[1944] So I was like I have no – there was never any reason for me to go and do the little interaction things.
[1945] So I hadn't even really noticed that my world was kind of depopulated until I was like, okay, I'm going to – I'm wrapping up some of these achievements.
[1946] So I want to – Go and make friends with 20 people and, you know, have six wives and murder two of them and do all that weird stuff.
[1947] Guess what?
[1948] You can't.
[1949] Or could you?
[1950] I could eventually.
[1951] It was just that the population was so thin, but no, I didn't.
[1952] You did have enough people then because I have nobody.
[1953] Yeah.
[1954] I literally don't.
[1955] I couldn't find six women to marry if I wanted to.
[1956] But there are dead bodies.
[1957] There are corpses of townspeople everywhere.
[1958] Can you marry the dead bodies?
[1959] Let me spin you a tale then.
[1960] You'll appreciate this.
[1961] So Wednesday night, last Wednesday, right before Thanksgiving break, next morning I was going to hop up nice and early and get in my car and drive to Fresno, California for my annual Thanksgiving celebration with the family.
[1962] So I popped in the Fable 3 having, I believe maybe the day prior, having bought the...
[1963] The Understone Quest pack.
[1964] Yeah, the Understone Quest pack.
[1965] which is part of the day one DLC.
[1966] Yeah, it was already in the download that you had to get on day one.
[1967] But kind of the worst thing about what that pack represents is missions that you can grind on so you can get the last of the emblem.
[1968] Yeah, the guild seals.
[1969] The guild seals that you need to unlock the chests on the road to ruin or whatever.
[1970] So it's just like – and it's the shitty arena and shooting gallery things that were built into Fable 2.
[1971] But they turn them into a fucking $7 DLC pack.
[1972] And you can go repeat the stuff in Reaver's Mansion.
[1973] Oh, it's basically the Gladiator style.
[1974] Play through all those waves with arena combat.
[1975] So it's in that context, but it's the Wheel of Misfortune.
[1976] And it's like the tower in Fable 2 where you would go through the arena and then here's a different arena with a different type of enemy.
[1977] It's kind of crazy that they want to charge you money for the privilege of doing that stuff.
[1978] There is, okay, but there is actually a good quest as part of all that.
[1979] The Undercity quest is a good quest.
[1980] That's actually good?
[1981] That's actually good.
[1982] So that part, that's kind of like the part of it that justifies any of it.
[1983] Anyway, I was just playing some Vable 3 by myself.
[1984] And one John Vignocchi decides to hop into my game.
[1985] He had been playing Fable 3 as well, and he needed to get married.
[1986] He needed to do all that stuff, get married and have a kid and start a partnership and all that jazz.
[1987] So I'm like, we can do that.
[1988] We can work that out.
[1989] We'll get gay married, and we'll adopt a gay son, and it'll be great.
[1990] I needed to adopt a son anyways because I had already turned the orphanage into a whorehouse in my city, so I could not actually have an orphan.
[1991] I could not adopt an orphan because there were no orphanages because I did that.
[1992] Anyways, so we're running around in my world for a bit, and I was kind of experimenting, like, let me go on one of these Undercity, let's go on the Undercity quest and see if you can actually tag along.
[1993] And he could, so that's kind of cool.
[1994] You don't need to buy the DLC.
[1995] If you have a friend that has the DLC, you can still go on that mission.
[1996] So that's why they put it in that mandatory download.
[1997] Yeah, everyone has to have it for a co -op game like that.
[1998] Right, right.
[1999] So it's, yeah, like that part I didn't, it wasn't so bad.
[2000] So we go through some of that stuff and kind of reach the point where we're like, okay.
[2001] There's nothing else that I can do here in my city.
[2002] Oh, that's when we reached the point where I'm like I want to – let's go adopt a kid because he needed to have the pregnancy achievement and I needed the adoption achievement.
[2003] So we're like, hey, let's quit out of my world and I'll go join your world and then we can do these things.
[2004] So we get over there and we take care of that business and they're like, OK, let's go do some quests because I still need to grind out some more guild seals and some other stuff.
[2005] So we're like, all right, there's a mission out in Aurora.
[2006] So we go out to Aurora and we do this mission out in the dirt.
[2007] Fight a bunch of those, I don't know, sand furies.
[2008] The desert ninjas.
[2009] The desert ninjas.
[2010] And we were like, all right, desert ninjas are dead.
[2011] We accomplished whatever stupid task we needed to do out in this pit.
[2012] Let's run back.
[2013] So we run back and there's, you know, there's one of those big fucking doors where it's clearly like you're running down kind of a short corridor and then there's the big door.
[2014] But you're never actually supposed to reach the door because it's the load point before you get into the next zone.
[2015] Right.
[2016] You know what I mean?
[2017] Yeah, it's a load box or whatever.
[2018] Like it'll fade to black before you reach the door.
[2019] Yeah, sort of like it's like, well, I'm about to get to the door and then fade to gloat screen or whatever.
[2020] Well, I made it to the door and through the door and then I started falling into an infinite void.
[2021] So I'm like, oh, this is – I'm trying to tell – like I've got Johnny on my headset.
[2022] I'm trying to tell him like, oh, this is – I'm gone.
[2023] This is – what?
[2024] And then he's – and then the next thing I hear is like, oh, shit.
[2025] I fell into this void.
[2026] What the fuck is going on?
[2027] I'm like, all right.
[2028] Yeah, we're both.
[2029] We're both here.
[2030] This is bad.
[2031] And I'm like, all right.
[2032] I'm going to quit out of this.
[2033] Let's start this up again.
[2034] You can invite me again.
[2035] And then I hear him on his end say, do I want to save?
[2036] Yes.
[2037] Oh, man. Oh, man. And I said – and I'm like, oh.
[2038] All right, let's try loading it back up, Johnny.
[2039] Like, not kind of revealing my hand to him at this point of what I think has just happened, what horrible mistake he might have just made.
[2040] But sure enough, now...
[2041] Is he falling?
[2042] Now, every time he loads up his game, which I should also mention, he was in the, like, king state, and he was on track to have the good -ass ending.
[2043] Oh, wow.
[2044] Nice.
[2045] He was like – Doing it.
[2046] He was in there.
[2047] He was in his zone and he put a lot of time.
[2048] He said that he had put like 30 hours into his game at this point.
[2049] It's got to be something he can record.
[2050] He's got to be able to like load up and fast travel or something.
[2051] Every time he loads it back up when he hits pause, he gets the abbreviated pause menu, not the – Oh, the like – The little room.
[2052] Change your sound settings or whatever.
[2053] Yeah, like the one where it's just like three menu options.
[2054] Oh, shit.
[2055] So he can't – so I can invite him into my world still.
[2056] Yeah.
[2057] Like I can load up my game.
[2058] Because since I was in his world, every time I load up my game, I'm just, hey, I'm fine.
[2059] Everything's cool over here in my Albion.
[2060] Wow.
[2061] But since he is constantly falling and never on a solid surface, he can never pull up that menu to invite anyone into his world.
[2062] He's just constantly tumbling through a void.
[2063] Can you kill him?
[2064] I can't get to him.
[2065] Can you jump in there with him?
[2066] No, I can't get to his worlds.
[2067] Oh, you can't join in?
[2068] No, because he's constantly falling.
[2069] Why don't I feel like this is the part where Rod Serling comes in and delivers some kind of little monologue about like...
[2070] Maybe he'll reach a bottom.
[2071] But I felt so bad because I was like, I just witnessed him.
[2072] was party to the complete fucking ruination of John Vignocchi's Fable 3 game, which he had clearly poured some serious time into.
[2073] That's terrible.
[2074] It's weird you can't...
[2075] There should be some way to fast travel out of it somehow.
[2076] No, if you can't get to that menu, you can't do anything.
[2077] Well, sometimes, I don't know, sometimes it maps to the D -pad, right?
[2078] Maybe if he waits long enough, something will...
[2079] map onto that deep...
[2080] I wonder if he'll still be accruing money.
[2081] Yeah, just fall and get paid.
[2082] Falling forever and making millions.
[2083] They can never spend it.
[2084] My glasses are broken.
[2085] That's your Rod Serum.
[2086] That's your O. Henry story for sure.
[2087] That's basically what happened to me when I was reviewing that game.
[2088] stuck on that part where the enemy fell through the world and I quit out to get back into it because that enemy had to die for me to progress and it saves everything, every single variable about the state of your world.
[2089] Like a game that prone to being that flaky should not preserve itself exactly.
[2090] I feel so bad.
[2091] That's terrible.
[2092] No, he's fucked.
[2093] He could solve the problem by just not playing the game anymore.
[2094] Well, it's a real bummer because he was like super close to the end and he was going to close the deal.
[2095] Well, it's not even that.
[2096] He wanted the achievement points.
[2097] Or even just the game wrap up.
[2098] It's only an extra 10 points to save everybody.
[2099] That's not a big deal.
[2100] But like for me to get that would be...
[2101] I wonder if I could get that finishing the game alongside someone else.
[2102] Yeah, can he jump into your game and just beat it again or something?
[2103] Well, he can't jump into my world because in my world it's already happened.
[2104] I'd have to join his Albion or someone else's Albion.
[2105] So the only way he can play that game now is through somebody else.
[2106] With that character.
[2107] With that character.
[2108] That character only exists as someone else's co -op companion.
[2109] It's the worst.
[2110] And so in order for you to join his game, he asked me. I haven't checked in with him.
[2111] This was last Wednesday, and it was the last meaningful video game experience I had.
[2112] Conference him in.
[2113] Someone calling him on the phone.
[2114] Find out what's going on.
[2115] Also, let's talk to him about Tron.
[2116] Let's get this all out of the way right now.
[2117] Do you play poker too, right?
[2118] My girlfriend played it.
[2119] It's scary.
[2120] According to Steam stats, almost 10 hours of poker night.
[2121] What?
[2122] While you were playing Borderlands?
[2123] While I was playing Borderlands.
[2124] Boringlands?
[2125] I was playing Boringlands.
[2126] She was getting me all the TF2 items and all but two of the achievements.
[2127] Nice.
[2128] She's a good poker player, huh?
[2129] She's a good poker player.
[2130] You don't need to be a good poker player to play that game.
[2131] Well, good enough for that game.
[2132] Yeah, you can kind of push around that AI pretty easy.
[2133] Actually, I was actually so proud that she was figuring out how to game achievements because, God, what was it?
[2134] There's an achievement for going all in three times in a row and winning all three times.
[2135] And she was like, it doesn't matter what your hand is.
[2136] If you just go all in on the first hand, then the rabbit will always fold.
[2137] She was figuring out how to trick it into letting her win.
[2138] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[2139] It's super simple behavior.
[2140] If you re -raise, they fold.
[2141] Like most of the time.
[2142] Pretty much, pretty much.
[2143] That's my experience.
[2144] Yeah, but sometimes they don't.
[2145] And then they go, oh.
[2146] But then it's like, whatever.
[2147] I just lost another $10 ,000.
[2148] That's my only complaint about that game.
[2149] I got to a point with that game where I was wishing that you could skip the dialogue.
[2150] It didn't seem like that was uniform because I was hitting every button I could when I was doing one -on -one.
[2151] Did you try the right mouse button?
[2152] You know, I didn't.
[2153] That's what they were saying.
[2154] When they said right click, they meant like the...
[2155] Oh, so you didn't actually try every button.
[2156] I don't know.
[2157] They weren't asking if you clicked correctly.
[2158] I probably did try every button on the mouse, though.
[2159] They do kind of repeat themselves a little more often.
[2160] And even though I turned off the bleeping, some dialogue is still bleeped.
[2161] I would get that occasionally, like randomly, though.
[2162] Like it wasn't...
[2163] I have it on good authority that a patch is forthcoming.
[2164] I would imagine.
[2165] To fix some issues.
[2166] I would imagine that that would benefit from a patch.
[2167] I wish you could see your dude, and I wish you won stuff, like loot that you could put on your guy.
[2168] You can't see your dude because your dude is Gordon Freeman.
[2169] Yeah.
[2170] You're totally Gordon Freeman.
[2171] Think about it.
[2172] Think about it!
[2173] I just blew your mind.
[2174] I just blew your mind.
[2175] Open the door.
[2176] If they had just...
[2177] Hold on, Vinny's leaving.
[2178] Man, now I'm in here all by myself.
[2179] No, I'm still here.
[2180] I'm still here.
[2181] Surprised.
[2182] It's just been Brad doing all these voices.
[2183] He is the master.
[2184] Wow.
[2185] Michael Winslow.
[2186] If they had just named your character Gordon in that game and had all the characters just address you as Gordon without ever saying Freeman or anything, do you think they could have gotten around paying the licensing?
[2187] No. You should just put a crowbar up on the table at one point.
[2188] No imagery.
[2189] I don't think that the Valve people would have let them use the heavy if they had sneakily tried to get Gordon Freeman into the game.
[2190] Trademark the first name.
[2191] Damn it.
[2192] But you know who they're talking to.
[2193] Annie up!
[2194] It ain't no free man. This game ain't free man. There you go.
[2195] Done.
[2196] Put it in there.
[2197] It's better.
[2198] I think he's leaving to go write video games.
[2199] In other news.
[2200] I'm already out here.
[2201] The video's going to go make his millions writing dialogue for poker games.
[2202] But then Jonathan Frakes says.
[2203] That's why they call me number one.
[2204] Boom!
[2205] Read what's on the page.
[2206] Just read what's on the page.
[2207] Brad, do you have anything else to add?
[2208] Oh, I think I'm good.
[2209] I mean, I played a lot of stuff, but let's move on.
[2210] I want to hear about Epic Mickey, so let's move on.
[2211] I didn't play any Epic Mickey.
[2212] We did that quick look.
[2213] We did that quick look.
[2214] That was the last of the Epic Mickey that I played.
[2215] Epic intro.
[2216] I was then in Fresno.
[2217] Oh, you were away.
[2218] Just decidedly un -epic.
[2219] I liked the Hampton Inn I was staying in.
[2220] That was nice, but...
[2221] Did you bring a TV?
[2222] No. Wait, do hotel TVs let you hook up consoles now?
[2223] At the Hampton Inns, it does.
[2224] Really?
[2225] Yeah.
[2226] You can get in back there?
[2227] There's fucking HDMI up in there.
[2228] Wow.
[2229] Full hookups.
[2230] The TV was a little dim, which kind of hurt me out.
[2231] Full internet, too.
[2232] Wow.
[2233] Welcome to the future.
[2234] Hampton Inns!
[2235] I cannot recommend them enough.
[2236] The room was huge.
[2237] They had a nice LCD that I could hook shit up to.
[2238] Wait, don't you have family you can stay with?
[2239] There was other family that was staying with that family.
[2240] There's only one bedroom at grandma's house other than grandma's.
[2241] Don't want to sleep in either of those rooms.
[2242] All right.
[2243] So Hampton Inn.
[2244] That's cool.
[2245] A hotel is sometimes fun.
[2246] I spent more.
[2247] It was nice.
[2248] But I brought a bunch of game stuff thinking like, man, I can get some time in here.
[2249] But it didn't work out.
[2250] Although I did set up.
[2251] I did set something up.
[2252] So there's wired internet in the room as well as wireless, but it's like if I can put passcodes in kind of stuff, so consoles don't know how to deal with the wireless and the wired was just the one jack and it was too far from the TV.
[2253] I had my laptop hooked up to that anyways.
[2254] So I spent probably more time hooking up, figuring out how to share the connection from my laptop to the wireless adapter on the 360.
[2255] To clone the Mac address?
[2256] No. No, I didn't have to do anything that crazy.
[2257] Last time I was in a hotel room that had an Xbox in it, I spent a good 45 minutes going, I'm going to get this fucking thing online.
[2258] Just fuck it.
[2259] What you need to do is you need to define certain router and DNS settings as being the IP address on your laptop as well as what the actual router is for the connection you're hooked up to.
[2260] You plug those into the right fields and you can make some gold pretty easily.
[2261] So I was just cloning the Mac address and then disconnecting the laptop from the hotel wireless and connecting the Xbox.
[2262] It was working but not.
[2263] Kind of.
[2264] Yeah, like they had a bunch of ports blocked on their end that was not going to let me do that.
[2265] So I got this working and it says like, yeah, you're connected to Xbox Live.
[2266] Yeah, that's where I got to.
[2267] You don't want to use this as a playing connection.
[2268] And I mean from the performance I was getting on my laptop, I was like, okay, yeah, this is high speed.
[2269] I think I did pull it off, but the situation became they had parental settings set on that Xbox, so I could not recover my profile.
[2270] I wanted the achievements for the game that bad.
[2271] I went through all that shit.
[2272] I'm going to recover my profile of this machine, and then I'll USB it out of here, keyster it.
[2273] No one will ever know.
[2274] But it was not meant to be.
[2275] You mean put it in your butt?
[2276] That's what I said.
[2277] It's a keyster.
[2278] I just want to make sure the folks at home understand what keister means.
[2279] All right.
[2280] That's, yeah, that's it.
[2281] That's it.
[2282] That's all.
[2283] That's a podcast.
[2284] That was Thanksgiving.
[2285] That was, and that was Thanksgiving.
[2286] That.
[2287] I had finished that fable book.
[2288] Another whistle.
[2289] Bad whistle, though.
[2290] Caw -caw.
[2291] Yeah.
[2292] I'm trying to think, what's the bad whistle?
[2293] Is it...
[2294] Yeah.
[2295] Oh, boy.
[2296] It starts out lower than that.
[2297] Yeah, that's your...
[2298] There you go.
[2299] It's a whistle sigh.
[2300] Okay, yeah.
[2301] There it is.
[2302] Got it.
[2303] It's a bad whistle.
[2304] Yeah.
[2305] No, I was trying to stick the assassins on that book.
[2306] That book, you know...
[2307] Would you read some Assassin's Creed fiction?
[2308] Yes.
[2309] I bet there is.
[2310] No hesitation.
[2311] Would you buy the limited edition Abstergo hoodie?
[2312] No. There's a bunch of comic books.
[2313] Was there a limited edition Assassin's Creed Brotherhood in the States?
[2314] Yes.
[2315] It came with a jack -in -the -box.
[2316] Like a doctor head in a jack -in -the -box.
[2317] Did it come with a map and all that nonsense?
[2318] Cloth map.
[2319] I don't know.
[2320] I didn't see it.
[2321] It might have come with a cloth map.
[2322] I was looking up some stuff.
[2323] It might be just in Europe.
[2324] There was one with a...
[2325] cards of all the dudes, like, you know, in the database and stuff that came with all that stuff.
[2326] Anyway, yeah, I would.
[2327] But that fable book.
[2328] Not so good.
[2329] Oh, man. I've read some video game based books.
[2330] Fiction.
[2331] That one, I can't really recommend that.
[2332] No offense to the author, you know, but the material does not lend itself.
[2333] You know, the bridging.
[2334] He or she may still take offense.
[2335] I don't know.
[2336] You can disclaim.
[2337] I don't know.
[2338] You mean Peter Molyneux?
[2339] No. Under his pen name.
[2340] I do not mean no— Under his pen name, Milo.
[2341] I do not mean no offense to Peter Molyneux.
[2342] Oh, you mean much offense to Peter Molyneux.
[2343] I know what I'm saying to the author.
[2344] That fiction just is not what you want to write a serious book about.
[2345] I don't know.
[2346] It's weird.
[2347] If Peter Molyneux hasn't taken maximum offense from this podcast by now...
[2348] Oh, I love Peter Molyneux.
[2349] I don't think there's anything else that we can do.
[2350] No, I hope not, because I think I love Fable 2, and I think Fable 3 is the sequel or the next game of that series.
[2351] You guys are the guys that spent all this time talking about liver -spotted balls.
[2352] How many times do people talk about farts in the Fable book?
[2353] Yeah, how many heads are held near asses in that book?
[2354] How much farting gets done in the Fable book?
[2355] You know, I don't think there's that much.
[2356] Then that book is bullshit.
[2357] It does not stay true to the fable fiction as I understand it.
[2358] It's not canon.
[2359] Is it open with a wacky mishap involving a bird?
[2360] Ooh.
[2361] Yeah, is there any shit?
[2362] In Fable 3, there was no shit.
[2363] There was still a bird.
[2364] I can't remember now.
[2365] That's true.
[2366] But in Fable 2, there was shit.
[2367] Oh, yeah.
[2368] In Fable 2, there was shit.
[2369] I can't remember.
[2370] I forgot about the opening to Fable 3.
[2371] Totally forgot about the whole crazy chicken opening.
[2372] I'm a crazy chicken.
[2373] Am I going to shit on something?
[2374] Nope.
[2375] That's a pretty cool opening.
[2376] I remember that intro when you were pretty excited.
[2377] About all the adventures to come.
[2378] I wouldn't be offended if somebody talked about liver spotted balls.
[2379] That's not offensive.
[2380] For a man who will put farting on somebody's head in a game, it sounds like Peter Monty's down to the party.
[2381] Maybe you're right.
[2382] I would not be surprised either way.
[2383] Neither would I. But I enjoy his work.
[2384] I would be entirely understanding if Peter Molyneux chose to take offense at the things that we have said about him and his games.
[2385] I hope he doesn't take it personally.
[2386] I also hope his balls do not take it personally.
[2387] I hope they do.
[2388] It's his balls that kind of watch out.
[2389] Yeah, they're the vindictive ones.
[2390] No, I think they'll fall in line.
[2391] See, Brad, you don't want to hitch your wagon to this train.
[2392] Fucking death train.
[2393] Don't, yeah, don't get affiliated with this.
[2394] Oh, God, is there any news?
[2395] Let's move on.
[2396] There really isn't.
[2397] There's not a whole ton of news.
[2398] They're going to take Halo stat tracking and stuff off for Halo Wars stat tracking December 15th.
[2399] Seems kind of soon.
[2400] Squeeze in the last of your, well, the studio that made it has been dust for a year.
[2401] True, but, man, the game's like, what, less than two years old?
[2402] I wonder what the...
[2403] CNC4 state of things is like right now.
[2404] I don't know what the CNC Music Factory state of things is.
[2405] One of the C's died.
[2406] Where's Freedom Williams?
[2407] And Freedom Williams wasn't even in the group anymore.
[2408] It was a conqueror.
[2409] I know.
[2410] It was never really in the group.
[2411] Like the second album.
[2412] It was some coal.
[2413] Like Freedom Williams is there on a couple of songs.
[2414] Yeah.
[2415] Really?
[2416] Yeah.
[2417] I always associated Freedom Williams with the CNC Music.
[2418] Yeah.
[2419] Well, second album for CNC Music Factory is not there.
[2420] It's a dust, huh?
[2421] For a year.
[2422] What is that?
[2423] Yeah, they're transitioning the forums over to Halo Waypoint.
[2424] Are they?
[2425] Yeah, there was some outrage from people that still were forming a community around Halo Wars, which I say again, don't hitch your wagon to this death train.
[2426] But, yeah, I don't know.
[2427] Like a multiplayer?
[2428] You'll still be able to play a multiplayer.
[2429] You know what I'm saying?
[2430] Like these people.
[2431] They're still like, yeah, Halo Wars, all units, motherfucker.
[2432] All units till the day that I die.
[2433] Weird.
[2434] I refuse to believe that there is a significant number of people that are left to be outraged at the idea of that being shut down.
[2435] But sure enough, there are some people that are pretty unhappy about it.
[2436] Enough to start a petition.
[2437] That's like one person.
[2438] It doesn't take that many.
[2439] I think people have started plenty of petitions about me, but I don't know.
[2440] Yeah.
[2441] Yeah, you.
[2442] You're a jerk.
[2443] I know.
[2444] Yeah.
[2445] Stop making all those petitions.
[2446] I signed most of them.
[2447] Signed up with like 17 accounts.
[2448] Double Fine has announced their next downloadable game.
[2449] It will be called Stacking, and it involves Russian nesting dolls wrecking BMX bikes.
[2450] It involves stacking a grip.
[2451] You totally stacked your Huffy into that dirt mound.
[2452] Yeah, hella stacked.
[2453] I'm not familiar with this colloquialism.
[2454] Don't lie to me. I'm not familiar with this colloquialism outside of you saying the word stacked that way.
[2455] Fucking stacked, bro.
[2456] Which I enjoy.
[2457] I started my own petition to have more of that in there.
[2458] More stacking?
[2459] Yes.
[2460] Oh, yeah.
[2461] Russian Essing does a trailer out for it.
[2462] It's got a crate, you know.
[2463] Double fine.
[2464] It's got a crazy art style.
[2465] I'm not sure what the game is about.
[2466] No. But it's got a crazy art style.
[2467] Speaking of farting, it's like you're trying to do a fat tabletop over this sawhorse that you stole from the construction site.
[2468] Brad, you had a thought.
[2469] But you can't get it up and your pedal fucking hooks the fucking sawhorse.
[2470] I have actual thoughts.
[2471] Like a relevant one.
[2472] Irrelevant to the conversation.
[2473] It's got like a vintage look to it.
[2474] I like it.
[2475] Very much so.
[2476] Did it sound a little like a little Assassin's Creed -y?
[2477] Like, didn't I read that you can only interact so you can like, you can either I thought it was more like Messiah.
[2478] You can either stack inside other characters or over them.
[2479] I forget if you absorb them or they absorb you, but you can only do it if they're facing the other way.
[2480] Yeah, you have to stealth stack.
[2481] So it's almost like a backstab.
[2482] Oh, okay.
[2483] I was also hoping that this was going to be a cup stacking, like a speed stacking simulator.
[2484] Nope.
[2485] Speed stackers are intense, dude.
[2486] This is going to be the year that I buy cups from the Toys R Us.
[2487] Go on YouTube.
[2488] For speed stacking.
[2489] Go on the official speed stacker set.
[2490] Go on YouTube and Google yourself some...
[2491] Some speed stacking videos.
[2492] Speed stacking is nuts.
[2493] Really?
[2494] It's just people trying to stack stuff?
[2495] You've never seen it?
[2496] Oh, my God.
[2497] It's the craziest speed stacking.
[2498] It's like they're taking red fucking solo cups, but they're especially designed for this act, and it's them taking them from a single staff and then making a pyramid out of them.
[2499] As quickly as they can.
[2500] In less than a second.
[2501] Literally, the hands just blur, and then there's this pyramid of cups.
[2502] And they break it all down, and they put it all back up, and it's like they have these whole routines where they're moving the cups around really fucking fast.
[2503] Literally.
[2504] That fast.
[2505] Come on.
[2506] No. Go watch it.
[2507] Go watch videos.
[2508] It is fucking out of...
[2509] There's full competitions.
[2510] Is it a new thing?
[2511] No, it's been around 10 years.
[2512] Probably for a while at least.
[2513] And yeah, they're like national championships.
[2514] But how do you beat...
[2515] Go faster.
[2516] Go faster.
[2517] You fucking go fucking faster.
[2518] You speed stack.
[2519] Do you think they like high speed film judge these things?
[2520] Well, it's like down to milliseconds.
[2521] Yeah, that's the only way you could beat somebody's time.
[2522] There's no way that they can judge.
[2523] Every finish is a photo finish.
[2524] It's speed stacking.
[2525] How many cups are in an official speed stacking set?
[2526] It depends on the competition.
[2527] It depends on your weight class.
[2528] This is true.
[2529] I thought it was traditionally a 3 -2 -1 pyramid.
[2530] It could be a 4 -3 -2 -1.
[2531] Well, I imagine there are multiple.
[2532] Okay, yeah.
[2533] All right.
[2534] I'll give you that.
[2535] All right.
[2536] So you want to open with a nine stack, 12 pyramid.
[2537] Exactly.
[2538] So I was kind of hoping when they said our game is called stacking that it was going to be a RPG about speed stackers.
[2539] Just head on over to speedstacks .com.
[2540] Oh, boy.
[2541] I love how they're just throwing caution to the wind over at Double Fine now.
[2542] Why?
[2543] They've taken all the limiters off of their madness.
[2544] Oh, I don't know.
[2545] I feel like they're right there.
[2546] Who calls their game stacking?
[2547] I love it.
[2548] I think this sounds amazing, but who with any kind of marketing influence on them would name a game stacking?
[2549] Yeah, that is pretty bad.
[2550] It sounds like it should be some kind of puzzle game.
[2551] I think it's the best.
[2552] Yeah, exactly.
[2553] It should be called Cup Triss.
[2554] Yeah.
[2555] I think they need a better name.
[2556] I think they need someone.
[2557] I think their ideas are genius.
[2558] I think Costume Quest was a delightful game, great art style, good sense of humor, and I'm loving what I'm seeing of this, but Costume Quest was a terrible name for that game.
[2559] I think Stacking is an equally bad name for this.
[2560] They probably did okay, though.
[2561] It's like for downloadable games, the people that are typically buying downloadable games are a little more wired in than the average consumer, so they're a little more likely to know that Double Fine made it and care about that fact.
[2562] Yeah, sure, sure.
[2563] So I think that's...
[2564] I mean, the Double Fine name is the thing that's selling there, for sure.
[2565] Yeah.
[2566] You can still have better names.
[2567] Stacking's a great name.
[2568] I think it's great.
[2569] You can still have better names.
[2570] I think it's ballsy.
[2571] I think it's risky.
[2572] Yeah, it's a ridiculous name.
[2573] Three, six, or ten cups.
[2574] Okay.
[2575] Wow, ten cups.
[2576] Ten cup.
[2577] I'm looking at ten cup right here.
[2578] 1985.
[2579] Is the official date?
[2580] Is that when it started, or was that the standing record?
[2581] Founded.
[2582] Okay.
[2583] 1985.
[2584] I was hoping there was some...
[2585] It appeared on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
[2586] Wow.
[2587] Wow.
[2588] So I was hoping there was some kind of like Billy Mitchell -esque dynasty or like standing record from the 80s or something.
[2589] The 80s were weird.
[2590] Nobody has ever beaten the...
[2591] That's before they were doing drug testing, so...
[2592] Steven Puragana is the 2008, 2009, and 2010 world champion.
[2593] See, you can't beat it.
[2594] Overall champion.
[2595] You don't beat that easily.
[2596] Last three years, he's been holding it the fuck down.
[2597] I need to watch some videos of this.
[2598] He's going to win forever because no one cares about speed stacking anymore.
[2599] 333, 363, cycle.
[2600] What's a cycle?
[2601] Oh, take it up, take it down.
[2602] Individual doubles.
[2603] Team relay.
[2604] Oh, my God.
[2605] Stacking mats.
[2606] But, yeah, I was doing Christmas shopping last Christmas at the Toys R Us, and they were selling official speed stacking kits.
[2607] Really?
[2608] They're fucking cups.
[2609] Wow.
[2610] New rules.
[2611] As of April 10th, 2010.
[2612] Oh, a patch came out?
[2613] You are now allowed to double down stack for any stack.
[2614] However, the first two stacks must be down stacked with two hands.
[2615] Do you know what that means?
[2616] No one -handed down stacking.
[2617] Well, obviously.
[2618] I'm going to use my mind and assume that means when you go down with the stack instead of building up the stack.
[2619] You're collapsing your stack, yeah.
[2620] Because that's part of it.
[2621] That's a good whistle.
[2622] Building up and building down.
[2623] That's the impressed whistle.
[2624] Wow.
[2625] Like that.
[2626] That's a bad one.
[2627] That stacking trailer reminded me of PB Winterbottom.
[2628] Sure.
[2629] Yeah, PB Winterbottom.
[2630] I see what you mean with that vintage kind of vibe.
[2631] I'm going to make my speed stacking game a reality and call it Stacking 2.
[2632] I think there's already...
[2633] I feel like there's been a WiiWare speed stacking game.
[2634] Something with speed stacking in it.
[2635] Really?
[2636] Yeah, I feel like this has been covered in video games.
[2637] I'm not saying there isn't room, Jeff, for your bold new Facebook -based speed stacking game.
[2638] I'm called Stacker 2.
[2639] It's going to burn off fat.
[2640] Well, I love the first Stacker.
[2641] Stacker 2 is getting even better.
[2642] Spooner Cell 6.
[2643] They're going to make another Spooner Cell game.
[2644] And there's going to be some free Assassin's...
[2645] News Flash.
[2646] Yeah.
[2647] And there's going to be some Assassin's...
[2648] There's going to be DLC for games.
[2649] Games that you like, there's going to have some DLC.
[2650] Games you probably don't like, they're going to have DLC too.
[2651] Can I pay for them with my...
[2652] Sometimes you'll pay for it.
[2653] Sometimes it'll be free.
[2654] The DLC they're doing for...
[2655] Yeah, First Assassin's Creed is free.
[2656] Free.
[2657] First hit's free.
[2658] It's a new mode and I think a map or two matches.
[2659] Yeah, a map, new mode.
[2660] Stab some dudes.
[2661] Great.
[2662] Guess what?
[2663] There's going to be future DLC you're going to have to pay for.
[2664] What?
[2665] Just letting you know.
[2666] I know a guy inside the organization, and he told me that some of the DLC...
[2667] Oh, an industry insider.
[2668] Yes.
[2669] Some of that downloadable content, or DLC as we like to call it, will be for free.
[2670] Some of it you'll have to pay an additional charge for.
[2671] Yeah, I'll believe it.
[2672] You can't have it both ways.
[2673] I heard Splinter Cell 6 was going to have you play support.
[2674] And here we have Assassin's Creed with DLC two ways.
[2675] Two ways?
[2676] Well, it took me just a bit of a time.
[2677] It took you just enough time.
[2678] Yeah.
[2679] I wanted to play a game with my brother and my dad for Thanksgiving from here and there in New York, obviously.
[2680] And then Monday Night Combat was the game I chose.
[2681] Oh, yeah?
[2682] Which is probably a pretty good game.
[2683] It's a good game.
[2684] I have two brothers and one father.
[2685] Just weird.
[2686] Yeah.
[2687] Sometimes weird stuff works out.
[2688] Weird family stuff.
[2689] Yeah.
[2690] I had to, my dad, I had given him a gold card count, you know, like a thing for, you know, it's like the holiday gift.
[2691] 48 -hour trial or something?
[2692] No, no, like a year.
[2693] Oh, like an actual year, okay, yeah.
[2694] So when I came down to buy the game, I was like, oh, I should add some points.
[2695] What?
[2696] You had to buy this?
[2697] What?
[2698] No, just come on.
[2699] I got to put my credit card in on this thing now.
[2700] It's already got something on there.
[2701] Oh, I don't know.
[2702] And at the time, he was huffing and puffing, hemming and hawing.
[2703] I bought a card on Amazon.
[2704] I was reading him off the number by the thing.
[2705] And it worked out perfect.
[2706] It could not have been easier unless he had just bought points.
[2707] Meanwhile, my other brother, because it's all in my group chat, my other brothers are being, just fucking, fucking it all up, basically, as I'm trying to read him off the letters on this thing.
[2708] G723.
[2709] We're just like, do you have to add points to get that next letter?
[2710] What are you doing?
[2711] Anyway, that's my downloadable DLC story.
[2712] That was a game.
[2713] I think they got bored after a while.
[2714] Well, yeah.
[2715] I don't know.
[2716] Are you guys playing online against teams, or are you just doing the blitz mode?
[2717] The blitz mode.
[2718] Just the tower defense -y kind of stuff.
[2719] Yeah, they don't do a great job, I guess, if you just kind of jump in there explaining exactly what you have to do.
[2720] And for people who aren't very familiar with that style of gameplay.
[2721] It's like, oh, you've got to build turrets and save your money and upgrade your stuff.
[2722] Yeah, it's a little complicated.
[2723] Anyway.
[2724] All right, guys, let's talk about some new releases.
[2725] Sure.
[2726] Out this week.
[2727] Epic Mickey.
[2728] Disney Epic Mickey for the Nintendo Wii.
[2729] Yes.
[2730] Make a quick look of that available on the site.
[2731] This holiday, give your loved ones the Epic Mickey.
[2732] Again, going back to terrible names for things.
[2733] Yeah.
[2734] Epic Mickey.
[2735] Disney.
[2736] Disney Epic Mickey.
[2737] Disney's Epic Mickey.
[2738] Disney Epic Mickey.
[2739] That would be gross.
[2740] I especially don't want Walt Disney's Epic Mickey.
[2741] Ugh.
[2742] Yeah, it's anti -Semitic, so you definitely don't want that one.
[2743] It's horrible.
[2744] It's horrible.
[2745] And nailed.
[2746] Nailed.
[2747] Which is what?
[2748] I know there's a quick look.
[2749] Off -road.
[2750] ATV, bananas.
[2751] And ATV.
[2752] Are represented.
[2753] And bananas.
[2754] And weird FOV.
[2755] It's super fast.
[2756] Really?
[2757] I didn't feel the FOV as hard as you did.
[2758] It's really weird.
[2759] I kind of see what you mean.
[2760] Yes, they pull it out.
[2761] It's like they gave the game a facelift.
[2762] They pulled it all top.
[2763] Yeah.
[2764] Hmm.
[2765] It kind of feels like how it should feel.
[2766] Like, you know in Burnout, when you take that FOV, when you hit boost.
[2767] Yeah, but instead it has it all the time.
[2768] Yeah.
[2769] And it's just like, why would...
[2770] I'm a bug.
[2771] I'm some sort of alien.
[2772] Yeah.
[2773] Nailed.
[2774] Nailed.
[2775] N -A -I -L apostrophe D. Nailed.
[2776] Nailed.
[2777] Nailed.
[2778] Nailed.
[2779] Nailed.
[2780] Nailed.
[2781] By the time you hear this.
[2782] Xbox Live Arcade this week.
[2783] Unbound Saga.
[2784] Man. Yeah.
[2785] Wow.
[2786] Was it the PSP game?
[2787] Voguester.
[2788] Voguester still exists.
[2789] Voguester.
[2790] Sorry, Voguester.
[2791] You're right.
[2792] You're right.
[2793] Not be confused with Frogster.
[2794] Yeah.
[2795] Or Frogster.
[2796] Well, to be confused with Frogster.
[2797] Those guys are just bootleg.
[2798] There's a new...
[2799] Speaking of which ones...
[2800] They're doing a whole...
[2801] They're doing a Crimecraft expansion.
[2802] They're still working on Crimecraft.
[2803] We got an email from a guy at...
[2804] At Vogster.
[2805] Yeah?
[2806] Yeah.
[2807] It's like, hey, I know you guys.
[2808] We're still working hard.
[2809] Have said things about our games in the past.
[2810] Yes, we have.
[2811] It was kind of a plea for some coverage.
[2812] There you go.
[2813] There's a new Crimecraft thing available.
[2814] I felt a little bad.
[2815] Or happening soon, so.
[2816] If it's similar to original Crimecraft, I have to say, legally, I'm obligated to say, I do not recommend it.
[2817] that you get involved with.
[2818] Since then, they have made Crimecraft free -to -play and all this other stuff.
[2819] When was the last time you logged into Crimecraft?
[2820] When we did that quick look, probably.
[2821] I logged in again when they called it APB.
[2822] Pow!
[2823] Boom.
[2824] If you want to start a petition, here's the address.
[2825] There's a global agenda that were the dick suckers, right?
[2826] Yeah, those are the bad people.
[2827] PlayStation Network.
[2828] Dead Nation.
[2829] Dead Rising is a different game.
[2830] Dead Nation.
[2831] Game that Brad was talking about earlier.
[2832] We got a quick look up of it.
[2833] Probably.
[2834] I'll review that.
[2835] You were going to review that.
[2836] That's from last week, right?
[2837] Yes.
[2838] If I'm not in jury duty, I will review that game tomorrow.
[2839] A couple of crazy PS1 Japanese imports on the PlayStation Network.
[2840] Block Kids and Dezemon Plus.
[2841] Those both sound great.
[2842] One's it.
[2843] One's it.
[2844] Choose one of eight cartoon characters and bounce, blast, and batter your way past an array of formidable fortress -like block barriers in Natsume's revolutionary 3D twist on an arcade classic.
[2845] That's block kids.
[2846] Block kids.
[2847] Block kids.
[2848] Block kids.
[2849] Okay.
[2850] B -L -O -C -K -I -D -S.
[2851] Block kids.
[2852] Block kids.
[2853] Blow kids.
[2854] Blow kids.
[2855] Got it.
[2856] And D -A -Z -A -E -M -O -N.
[2857] Dazeemon.
[2858] Dazeemon.
[2859] Dazeemon.
[2860] I feel like I need to get some more of that.
[2861] D -A -Z -A -E -M -O -N.
[2862] Dazeemon.
[2863] Dazeemon.
[2864] I think I got to get some more of that to finish a shop quest in Assassin's Creed, brother.
[2865] Collect more Dazeemon.
[2866] One more piece.
[2867] Crazy Japanese games.
[2868] I don't know.
[2869] Hell, I don't know, man. We don't know what's coming out on Game Room this week, but we know what it could be.
[2870] Could be Sunset Riders.
[2871] Could be Amadar.
[2872] Could be Twinbee.
[2873] Could be fucking Poo Yan, I think, is in there.
[2874] People are actually fucking super goddamn pumped up about Poo Yan.
[2875] I've heard a lot of people getting rowdy about Poo Yan.
[2876] You know what's a fucking sick fucking game?
[2877] Fucking Poo Yan, motherfucker.
[2878] It's not bad.
[2879] You know what's also a sick fucking game?
[2880] Fucking Amadar.
[2881] What about Food Fight?
[2882] What about fucking Food Fight?
[2883] Food Fight is gangster as fuck.
[2884] It's in there.
[2885] Those fucking chefs are falling in holes.
[2886] The watermelons are fucking infinite.
[2887] Fucking food fight.
[2888] Unless they fuck it up.
[2889] I hate those chefs.
[2890] Those chefs are fucking cocksuckers.
[2891] Unless they fuck it up and have eight -way control.
[2892] The arcade game, I believe it was a 49 -way stick.
[2893] Oh, okay.
[2894] So it is more than just the eight -way movement than you expect from games.
[2895] So you will need to use the analog stick to do that.
[2896] And if they fuck that up.
[2897] They're going to fuck that up.
[2898] If they fuck that up.
[2899] They're going to fuck that up.
[2900] If they fucked that up.
[2901] They've already fucked that up.
[2902] Yeah, the work's done.
[2903] Like a month ago.
[2904] Hopefully they didn't fuck that up.
[2905] Was the last.
[2906] Hopefully they didn't fuck that up.
[2907] Was the latest time they could have fucked that up.
[2908] And they have most assuredly already fucked that up.
[2909] Hopefully they did not fuck that up.
[2910] Also, M .I .A. Missing in Action, a .k .a. Russian Attack 2.
[2911] Yeah, I'm not really familiar with that game at all.
[2912] I don't know.
[2913] Maybe it might not have come out here.
[2914] Twinbee's good.
[2915] There's like two Twinbee games in there, right?
[2916] And there's also off -the -wall Thwocker.
[2917] And Warlords.
[2918] Yeah.
[2919] I think Thwalker is another one of those games that didn't actually come out.
[2920] Yeah.
[2921] Yeah.
[2922] Datana.
[2923] Twinbee.
[2924] Yeah.
[2925] Dude, Twinbee.
[2926] Cool fucking game.
[2927] Yeah.
[2928] Food Fight.
[2929] Man. A lot of people are talking a lot of like positive things about Sunset Riders.
[2930] I don't have like the nostalgic thing for Sunset Riders.
[2931] I didn't encounter it until much later.
[2932] I like Sunset Riders.
[2933] None of the arcades I hung out at ever had a Sunset Riders machine.
[2934] It's good.
[2935] It's good.
[2936] Sunset Riders.
[2937] I mean, I've played it and I think it's cool.
[2938] It's legit.
[2939] You want to talk about fucking Food Fight?
[2940] The peas fucking suck.
[2941] Food Fight.
[2942] They're like the shotgun of that thing.
[2943] They don't go anywhere.
[2944] There's no distance on them.
[2945] Food Fight came out well before any of the people listening to this podcast came out.
[2946] Food Fight.
[2947] I know.
[2948] I have a Food Fight t -shirt.
[2949] I saw you buy it.
[2950] You were there when I bought it.
[2951] Bought that Food Fight t -shirt.
[2952] We played Food Fight and then you went and bought a Food Fight shirt.
[2953] And also I bought a Warlords shirt.
[2954] Atari 2600 version of Warlords, pretty good.
[2955] Really?
[2956] It is not...
[2957] Is that paddles?
[2958] Yes, it was a paddle game.
[2959] That's where it's all going to fall apart, though, in this translation.
[2960] Right, exactly.
[2961] Because we don't have paddles.
[2962] Yeah, we don't have paddles.
[2963] That'll be funky.
[2964] Did you make a thing?
[2965] Could you make a USB adapter to plug a 360?
[2966] Someone issued some kind of weird controller for the 360 that has a paddle thing on it.
[2967] I don't know what the compatibility is with it.
[2968] Warlord Money Games.
[2969] I still have one of those USB to PS1 controller adapters when the DualShock was still the best thing that you could do for a game pad on a PC.
[2970] Food fight.
[2971] Food fight?
[2972] Watermelons last forever.
[2973] I think that's all I have for these digital releases except for Nintendo products.
[2974] Jeff, you want to handle that?
[2975] Yeah, yeah.
[2976] Do you have them?
[2977] I sent them to you.
[2978] All right.
[2979] Your phone's on the table.
[2980] My phone's on the table.
[2981] That's code.
[2982] My phone is on the table.
[2983] Everyone get out!
[2984] Checking my email.
[2985] How do I whistle?
[2986] You don't know how to whistle?
[2987] Last week you taught me drifting, and that worked out pretty well.
[2988] You kind of crow your tongue towards the front of your mouth, dude.
[2989] I understand the mechanics of it.
[2990] I just can't make it work.
[2991] Like I can almost, I'm not even going to embarrass myself.
[2992] Lick your lips.
[2993] Lick your lips first.
[2994] I don't want to embarrass myself.
[2995] Is that you?
[2996] Like I know what to do.
[2997] You just have to kind of just move your lips around until you find it.
[2998] You know who's a good whistler?
[2999] Rory is a good whistler.
[3000] He's got a strong whistle.
[3001] He's got a good whistle.
[3002] I've got limited range with mine.
[3003] Can you guys whistle with your hands?
[3004] Can you do that?
[3005] I don't understand how that works.
[3006] I don't understand the science behind that.
[3007] There's the corners of the ring.
[3008] Yeah.
[3009] I wish.
[3010] My mom would do it so well.
[3011] That's like the ballpark whistle, right?
[3012] That's when you want to be heard.
[3013] Yeah, that's when you go in for volume.
[3014] Yeah.
[3015] Wow.
[3016] I've been trying for years.
[3017] Not fucking bad, sir.
[3018] But she could do it.
[3019] And it's always followed by somebody's name.
[3020] That big, loud whistle.
[3021] Yeah.
[3022] Vincent!
[3023] Exactly.
[3024] Do you want to hear something about some DSiWare?
[3025] Jeff Gerstman with the Nintendo Downloads for this week, the week of November, the 29th, 2010.
[3026] Jeff Gerstman, take it away.
[3027] Cave Story from...
[3028] What?
[3029] Nicalis.
[3030] Nicalis.
[3031] This email client on the iPhone is dog shit.
[3032] Rated E10 plus 1 ,000 Nintendo DSi points.
[3033] Cave Story takes you into a rare world where a curious race of innocent rabbit -like creatures called...
[3034] Again, I can't get the text.
[3035] It's too decent.
[3036] Mimiga, run free.
[3037] You wake up in a dark...
[3038] And I was scrolling back and forth and that's even worse.
[3039] This is horrible.
[3040] Mimiga.
[3041] We gotta print these out.
[3042] Print these out.
[3043] We know what Cave Story is.
[3044] It doesn't rap.
[3045] Like, it doesn't rap.
[3046] Everybody knows what Cave Story is.
[3047] I'm Cave Story, and I'm here to say...
[3048] Man, this is a bummer.
[3049] This is the one, like, serious DSiWare release that actually matters.
[3050] You wake up in a dark cave with no memory of who you are, where you came from, or why you're in such a place.
[3051] Uncovering Mamega Village, you discover that the once carefree...
[3052] Mamega, am I saying that right?
[3053] I don't know.
