Morning Wire XX
[0] I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor -in -Chief John Bickley.
[1] It's Monday, October 16th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] The House of Representatives is expected to vote on House Speaker tomorrow, and it looks as if the GOP is finally coalescing around the current House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan.
[3] Jordan needed 217 votes to secure the speakership, and he earned the endorsement from several Republican holdouts Monday morning.
[4] Here's Jordan addressing the upcoming vote Monday morning.
[5] I feel real good about the momentum we have, and I think we're real close.
[6] So the vote's going to be tomorrow.
[7] It's not about pressure on anybody, just about we've got to have a speaker.
[8] You can't open the house and do the work of the American people and help our dearest and closest friend Israel if you don't have a speaker.
[9] So we get the speaker, we get the house open, and we get to work on the resolution and supplemental for Israel, and we get back to work for the American people.
[10] The federal judge overseeing the federal election interference case against Donald Trump, issued a partial gag order against the former president today.
[11] Here with more is Daily Wire reporter Tim Pearce.
[12] The order forbids Trump from saying anything disparaging about potential witnesses or the prosecutors.
[13] U .S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkin said she would not restrict Trump's statements regarding Washington, D .C., or his general criticisms of the government and DOJ.
[14] Chutkin also imposed a restriction on all parties involved in the case, banning them from making any statements that target the special counsel, his staff, as well as the court staffer personnel.
[15] Chudkin's ruling also allows for Trump to make statements about political rival Mike Pence, just not his role in the case.
[16] Trump was not president at the hearing this morning.
[17] The trial is scheduled for March 24.
[18] A representative of the Vatican, Cardinal Pierre Batista Pizza Bala, the Latin patriarch of Jerusalem, offered to sacrifice himself in exchange for children being held captive by Hamas terrorists.
[19] Pizza Bala made the courageous offering on Monday.
[20] It's unclear if the terrorist organization will accept the exchange.
[21] The U .S. government has reportedly selected roughly 2 ,000 troops from across the U .S. military to prepare to potentially deploy to Israel for non -combatant support.
[22] The troops would potentially help with humanitarian aid and advising.
[23] No infantrymen have been tabbed for deployment.
[24] Meanwhile, U .S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen sat down for an extensive interview with Sky News on a range of topics, including whether or not the U .S. will be able to handle supporting wars in both Ukraine and Israel.
[25] Take a listen to her answer.
[26] America can certainly afford to stand with Israel and to support Israel's military needs.
[27] And we also can and must support Ukraine in its struggle against Russia.
[28] She also addressed the state of the American economy.
[29] The American economy is doing extremely well.
[30] Inflation has been high and it's been a concern.
[31] into households.
[32] It's come down considerably.
[33] At the same time, we have about the strongest labor market we've seen in 50 years with 3 .8 % unemployment.
[34] And at the same time, America, the Biden administration, has passed legislation that is strengthening our economy in the years to come for the medium term.
[35] The Republican National Committee announced Monday that its third presidential primary debate on November 8th will be hosted by NBC.
[36] Actress Suzanne Summers, known for her role as Chrissy Snow on the show Three's Company has died.
[37] She was 76.
[38] Her family said in a statement Sunday that Summers had battled breast cancer for over 23 years.
[39] Her husband, Alan Hamill, her son Bruce, and other immediate family were with her in Palm Springs, California.
[40] According to the statement, the family had gathered to celebrate her birthday today, but instead, we'll celebrate her extraordinary life.
[41] Back in July, Summers shared on Instagram that her breast cancer had returned.
[42] A Georgia man was shocked after he was given a speeding ticket demanding he pay $1 .4 million.
[43] Or to be exact, $1 million in 51.
[44] Meanwhile, city officials say the figure was just a placeholder, not his actual fine.
[45] As Connor Cato tells W -S -A -V -T -V, he received the citation for allegedly driving 90 miles per hour in a 55 -mile -per -hour zone.
[46] Here's how Cato described his call with the court where he inquired about his ticket.
[47] The lady told me on the phone, I called him, this might be a typo.
[48] I don't know.
[49] I'm not sure.
[50] And I told her the amount it was.
[51] And she said, no, sir, that's the correct amount.
[52] You either pay the $1 .4 million or appear in court on December the 21st at 1 .30 p .m. Officials in Savannah say drivers caught cruising 35 miles per hour over the speed limit must appear, where a judge will decide the actual fine.
[53] The figure that Cato received was automatically generated by e -citation software used by the local recorders court.
[54] The actual fine cannot exceed $1 ,000 in addition to state -mandated costs.
