Morning Wire XX
[0] I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor -in -Chief John Bickley.
[1] It's Wednesday, September 6th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] House Oversight Chairman James Comer is requesting unfettered access to documents that show communications between President Biden's office when he was vice president and his son Hunter's business partners.
[3] Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has more.
[4] Comer asked the National Archives and Records Administration on Wednesday for unrestricted special access to a group of redacted records released in response to an open records request.
[5] The redacted versions were posted to NARA's website in response to a lawsuit brought by America First Legal, a group led by Stephen Miller, who was an advisor to former President Donald Trump.
[6] Miller joined Fox News Wednesday night to break down the latest.
[7] In the last batch of emails, they redacted, fully redacted, just wiped out, blacked out, disappeared, 200 emails relating to 100 Bidens.
[8] business operations in Rosemont -Sinica, they asserted executive privilege over 200 separate communications.
[9] So we are in court now.
[10] We will press this issue.
[11] We must get to the bottom of what is buried inside these redacted emails.
[12] Comer said the complete versions of the documents are relevant to his committee's investigation into the Biden family.
[13] The chairman provided a list of specific requests that he asked to be fulfilled by September 20th.
[14] The U .S. is set to announce that it will be sending depleted uranium rounds to Ukraine to assist in the war effort.
[15] Sources told Politico that the Biden administration will be sending the potentially toxic ammunition because, quote, they are considered the most effective way of arming U .S.-made Abrams tanks.
[16] Health organizations say the uranium dust on those rounds can lead to illness, including cancer.
[17] Meanwhile, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken made a surprise visit to Ukraine Wednesday to meet with Ukrainian President Vladimir's Zelensky and Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba.
[18] We want to make sure that Ukraine has what it needs not only to succeed in the counteroffensive, but has what it needs for the long term to make sure that it has a strong deterrent, strong defense capacity, so that in the future, aggressions like this don't happen again.
[19] And we're also determined to continue to work with our partners as they build and rebuild a strong economy, a strong democracy, all of which is necessary to ensure that Ukraine not only survives, but it thrives in the future.
[20] Minority leader, Senator Mitch McConnell also implored his colleagues to continue to support Ukraine and to vote in favor of a $40 billion spending bill that would allocate $20 .6 billion toward military equipment and other assistance to Ukraine.
[21] Since Putin's escalation in Ukraine, President Biden has not been as decisive as many of us would have preferred.
[22] But this is no excuse for Congress to compound his administration's failures with failures of our own.
[23] An activist group filed a lawsuit today that seeks to bar former President Donald Trump from the primary ballot in Colorado questioning his eligibility to run under the rarely used 14th Amendment.
[24] Experts say the suit is likely to make its way up to the U .S. Supreme Court.
[25] The complaint was filed by the group Citizens for Ethics and Responsibility in Washington.
[26] The group has asked the court to expedite the matter so it can be resolved before January 5, when the state's primary ballot will be set.
[27] Federal judge Lewis Kaplan ruled Wednesday that former President Donald Trump is civilly liable for defamation against author E. Jean Carroll, after comments he made in 2019 against Carol who accused him of rape.
[28] Now, a jury in January will decide the monetary damages that he owes her, an appeal from Team Trump is expected.
[29] Former Vice President Mike Pence delivered a speech on populism versus conservative, in New Hampshire today and an attempt to separate his vision for the country from some of his presidential primary opponents.
[30] I believe that now we have a choice our party is facing, whether we're going to produce leadership that is grounded in that timeless conservative agenda that's defined our movement for more than 50 years, or whether we're going to follow the siren song of populism and move our party away from those same principles.
[31] Authorities near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania are still looking for a convicted murderer who escaped prison last week and has been spotted in the area several times since.
[32] 34 -year -old Dinello Cavalcante escaped last Thursday from the Chester County prison.
[33] The latest citing led officials to move the search area further south on Tuesday after they determined that Cabalcante had likely gotten through the perimeter set by hundreds of law enforcement officers.
[34] The manhunt prompted officials in two school districts to cancel classes, citing safety concerns.
[35] Meanwhile, Chester County prison officials are shedding new light on how the escape happened.
[36] Escape by Eagle Bolt allowed the prison to identify a deficiency in the exterior exercise yard where the escape occurred.
[37] This is also the same area, the escape yard, where Calaconte was located prior to his escape.
[38] Capaconte escaped at the same location as Eagle Bolt.
[39] It was determined by our security advisors that this one level of security was sufficient.
[40] In fact, what was perhaps overlooked was the fact that addressing the single point of physical countermeasure should have been bolstered by additional means.
[41] We are addressing that.
[42] All right.
