[3] I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor -in -Chief John Bickley.

[4] It's Wednesday, April 10th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.

[5] Former Trump Organization Financial Chief Alan Weisselberg was sentenced today to five months in prison.

[6] Weisselberg pleaded guilty last month to two counts of perjury while giving testimony during former President Trump's civil fraud trial.

[7] Weisselberg was accused of lying in July of 2020 when he said he learned Trump's Triplex apartment had been overvalued from a Forbes article.

[8] Attorney General Alvin Bragg's office claims Weisselberg knew well before the article came out.

[9] A group of House GOP members blocked a speaker Mike Johnson approved bill today, which seeks to revise and revise.

[10] renew Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

[11] The bill aimed to curb instances of reported abuse, like the illegal surveillance committed against then -candidate Trump and others, by limiting who can access Section 702 collected data.

[12] But critics of the legislation said the bill doesn't go far enough and needs to further protect the data of Americans.

[13] Delivery of the articles impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has been delayed.

[14] Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has more.

[15] According to Speaker Mike Johnson's office, this pushes the process until next week.

[16] Johnson previously said he would send the articles of impeachment to the Senate today, forcing the Senate to act tomorrow.

[17] Senate leadership, however, hinted that a full -scale trial on the Senate floor would be unlikely in that case.

[18] So to ensure they have enough time to perform their constitutional duty, the Speaker delayed delivery of the articles.

[19] The House voted to impeach Mayorkas on February 13th by a vote of 214 to 213.

[20] Meanwhile, Secretary Mayorkas was on Capitol Hill today, where he faced tough questioning while testifying on the 2025 budget request before a House Appropriation Subcommittee.

[21] Congressman Michael Guest raised concerns about the Secretary asking for less funding amid the current border crisis.

[22] Guest used detention bed numbers as an example.

[23] What number do you need?

[24] Is 34 ,000, is that the number that you need right now?

[25] We are committed to working with Congress to sustain the 41 ,500 beds that Congress funded.

[26] If that's the number, why didn't you put that in your budget?

[27] Why are you substantially underselling the number of detention beds and then making Congress come in and bump those numbers up?

[28] If those are the numbers you need, if those are the appropriate numbers, Mr. Secretary, I would ask that you put those numbers actually in your budget and that you ask Congress to fund that.

[29] Meanwhile, President Biden is signaling that he may take executive action on the border.

[30] During a Tuesday interview on Spanish broadcaster Univision, the president hinted that he may use executive power to dramatically limit the number of asylum seekers allowed to cross the southern border.

[31] Here's the president.

[32] Have you made a final decision on taking executive order in terms of what you want to do at the border?

[33] That includes the power to shut down the border as it was suggested.

[34] Well, it suggested that.

[35] We're examining whether or not I have that power.

[36] A source told Axios that no decision has been finalized but that an executive order is likely by the end of the month.

[37] But in his Univision interview, Biden still suggests that there's no guarantee he can act without legislation from Congress.

[38] Some would suggest that I should just go ahead and try it.

[39] And if I get shut down by the court, I get shut down by the court.

[40] But we're trying to work that work through that right now.

[44] inflation data came in higher than expected in March.

[45] Daily Wire's senior editor Cabot Phillips breaks down the report.

[46] The Labor Department announced Wednesday that inflation rose 3 .5 % last month, exceeding projections from economists.

[47] Some of the largest price increases have been seen on things like auto insurance, which is up more than 20 % over the last 12 months, and baby food, which rose nearly 10%.

[48] Outpatient hospital services also rose by just over 8%.

[49] While other aspects of the economy look good on paper, with all -time highs in the stock market, relatively strong job growth, and low unemployment rate, Americans have seen average prices across the board rise by more than 20 % since the pandemic.

[50] The Environmental Protection Agency has, for the first time, implemented national limits on forever chemicals in drinking water.

[51] The substances known by the initials PFAs are called forever chemicals because they don't degrade much over time and are virtually indestructible.

[52] These chemicals have been found to cause higher rates of cancer, heart disease, high cholesterol, and reproductive issues, among others.

[53] According to the Department of Health and Human Services, most Americans have trace amounts of PFAs in their blood.

[54] Here's EPA administrator Michael Reagan making the announcement.

[55] Everyone should be able to turn on their tap and trust that the water that they're drinking and giving their children is safe.

[56] And a large storm system moving through the southern U .S. is bringing threats of strong toys.

[57] tornado's strong winds and a possibility of large hail.

[58] The forecast area stretches from Louisiana to Mississippi and Alabama to Florida.

[59] Currently in Louisiana, schools are closed due to the severe weather and over 150 ,000 people are without power.

[60] Meanwhile, a flash flood emergency has been issued for New Orleans.

[61] A tornado watch has been issued in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi, including the cities of New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Jackson.
