[0] I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor -in -Chief John Bickley.

[1] It's Wednesday, September 28th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.

[2] Early Wednesday morning, the U .S. Embassy in Russia warned all Americans to leave the country immediately, following President Vladimir Putin's partial mobilization decree last week.

[3] The embassy added that transportation could become limited and that those with dual American -Russian citizenship could be called for military service.

[4] The Nord Stream Gas Pipelines in Europe have spewed millions of cubic meters of natural gas since Monday in an apparent act of sabotage.

[5] The two Russian -owned pipelines were damaged on the floor of the Baltic Sea on Monday.

[6] European experts agree that the damage was almost certainly intentionally inflicted and not due to seismic activity.

[7] The body of Hillary Nelson, 49, one of the most famous female ski mountaineers in the world, was found on Wednesday after she had disappeared, falling into a crevasse on Manaslu in Nepal, the world's eighth highest mountain.

[8] Jason Martin, the executive director of the American Alpine Institute, remembered his friend.

[9] It's not the type of thing you expect here, and it's incredibly sad.

[10] Hurricane Ian has reached top winds of 155 miles per hour, a category four, as it moves towards Florida's Gulf Coast, but could be raised to a category five as it makes landfall Wednesday afternoon in the Fort Myers area.

[11] High winds and heavy rain have already struck the region spanning from Naples to Sarasota as residents prepare for Ian's full impact.

[12] Florida Governor Ronda Santis has warned residents still in the area that it is too late to evacuate.

[13] If you are in any of those counties, it's no longer possible to safely evacuate.

[14] It's time to hunker down and prepare for this storm.

[15] This is a powerful storm that should be treated like you would treat if a tornado was approaching.

[16] your home.

[17] Morning Wire spoke to meteorologist and atmospheric scientist Matthew Capucci, who has hunkered down on the west coast of Florida between Tampa and Fort Myers.

[18] This thing is rapidly intensifying.

[19] It did so overnight.

[20] It has what we call the enveloped eyewall lightning signature.

[21] Basically, there is a ring of lightning around the eyewall, which only occurs in the most extreme intense hurricanes, and it's taking advantage of water temperatures in the upper 80s flirting with 90 degrees, and as a result, the results will be catastrophic.

[22] This thing is very slow moving, prolonging just how long the bad conditions will last in a given area.

[23] So picture like an EF2, EF3 tornado is staying over you for two hours.

[24] I think we'll see immense structural damage, a complete destruction of single -family homes, mobile homes may be obliterated, where the eyewall, that annulus of extreme winds comes ashore.

[25] And the other thing that really interests me with this is that north of the center will see a prolific amount of rainfall, which I don't think has been spoken enough about.

[26] 20 plus inches of rain will cause serious and potentially devastating freshwater flooding inland.

[27] Keep in mind, Florida has been wet lately, and now suddenly we'll tack on another 20 -plus inches of rainfall, which will cause major issues for places like the Orlando metro area.

[28] And in addition, we could see this thing, maintain hurricane strength all the way to the east coast of Florida.

[29] Hurricane washes are now in effect up there towards Jacksonville, and then it may recurve northwards as a tropical storm and make a landfall on Georgia or the Carolinas as we had Friday into the weekend, so crazy stuff there.

[30] Those are your drive -home updates this afternoon.
