The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz XX
[0] You're listening to Draft King's Network.
[1] Hey, this is Tony Claudi from the Dan Lebitart show with Stu Gotts and football season is finally upon us.
[2] And it's been an interesting off season to say the least.
[3] We've had some blockbuster trades like Kirk Cousins heading to the Falcons where apparently part of its compensation may or may not include Cole's cash.
[4] We're still debating on that.
[5] Or Aaron Rogers taking to the press to talk about his ayahuasca retreat of all things.
[6] Jokes aside, Sunday mornings have been slow and I'm ready for the action to pick back up.
[7] This season, I'll be listening to a new podcast.
[8] called The Offensive Line with Annie Agar.
[9] You might know Annie from her uncomfortable team meeting series on social.
[10] Annie kicks back with NFL stars and celeb super fans throughout the season to impact the week's lines, odds, and spreads with more banter and trash talk than your fantasy group chat.
[11] The pot is packed with humor and he must listen to keep up with the latest in NFL news and culture.
[12] Here's a clip from the Offensive Line.
[13] Follow the Offensive Line on your Wondery app or wherever you get your podcast.
[14] Welcome to the Offensive Line, you guys.
[15] We're here to make some picks, talk some shit and hopefully make you some money and remind you that the Patriots used to be a dynasty, used to being the key word.
[16] I am Annie Agar here with our guest today.
[17] Both Super Bowl champs will soon be inducted into the Ruckers Hall of Fame.
[18] They will not let you forget that they were Super Bowl champs, Jason and Devin McCordy.
[19] Welcome, you guys.
[20] Thanks for joining us today.
[21] I want to know what your guys' opinion is of comeback player of the year.
[22] Let's start with Aaron Rogers, as you all might imagine, at plus 140.
[23] Then we have Joe Burrow at plus 300 and Kirk Cousins at plus 500.
[24] So give me your guys's opinion.
[25] Aaron, Joe, Kirk, who's walking away with this comeback player of the year?
[26] This is easy for me. And I like Rogers.
[27] I like the team success.
[28] They're probably going to be able to happen because he doesn't have to do a lot because of how good that team is, especially Breece Hall in the backfield.
[29] But I like Joe Burrow in this situation.
[30] And the main reason, his age.
[31] The other guys on this list, Kirk Cousin is the same age as me. Aaron Rogers is 40 years old.
[32] So usually players at that age, they have headphones on.
[33] They have a microphone in front of them.
[34] And they're doing what the three of us are doing right now.
[35] And we all say, hey, once you retire, go grab that podcast equipment because that's just the way to go.
[36] So I look at this and I say, because of that, Joe Burrow has the best chances of coming back, fully healthy, hitting the ground, running.
[37] And also look at what's on the outside from him.
[38] You got Jamar Chase and T. Higgins, two guys, hopefully they get a deal done with Jamar Chase.
[39] T. Higgins is going to be a free agent.
[40] You got some hungry dogs out there wanting to go out there and make their money.
[41] So I like Joe Burrow coming back for a comeback player to year.
[42] I don't disagree where your head's at.
[43] But 2021, Annie, who won't come back player at a year?
[44] I believe, was it Joe Burrow?
[45] I believe it was Joe Burrow.
[46] He was younger.
[47] He was younger in 21 than he is in 24, right?
[48] That's how life works.
[49] So, I mean, the age doesn't really matter.
[50] Like, we wouldn't expect him right back in this situation.
[51] These other guys proven veterans, yes, older ligaments, they heal different.
[52] You feel different.
[53] I get it.
[54] Both these guys have made a lot of money in it.
[55] NFL.
[56] They have every resource available to him to feel healthy.
[57] Aaron Rogers has already been above where anybody else was when an Achilles injury.
[58] Same thing with Kirk Cousins.
[59] The beauty for both of these guys, we're not expecting them to do a lot of running around and anything like that.
[60] They just need to have a good arm.
[61] They didn't hurt their arm.
[62] I'm going with the long shot though.
[63] I'm going Kirk Cousins.
[64] He brings everything together.
[65] Could we not find a better fit for Atlanta than Kirk Cousins?
[66] He's going to put every chain on.
[67] He's going to rent.
[68] He's going to be somewhere.
[69] In Atlanta, he's going to be eating Peach Cobbler.
[70] He is going to be all in in Atlanta.
[71] Kirk Cousins, Atlanta is welcoming you.
[72] He also has Michael Pinnich Jr. behind him who people are itching to see.
[73] So he's got to make sure he keeps him off his back.
[74] Kirk Cousins, you like that.
[75] I can see us comeback player at a year.
[76] Wow, I like it.
[77] Atlanta is a good fit for it.
[78] We all picked a different one here.
[79] Aaron might be healthy with that old age because of the ayahuasca and dolphin noises.
[80] You never know.
[81] So I'll take Aaron.
[82] You got Joe.
[83] Jason has Joe Burrow and Devin has Kirk Cousins.
[84] There you have it, guys.
[85] So one of them, at least one of us is going to win.
[86] Somebody.
[87] I feel like.
[88] Somebody has to come out on top.
[89] Watch it not be any of them and we just, we just suck at picking.
[90] And now it's time for real men of football genius.
[91] Every week, I'll pick someone who has done something so stupid.
[92] This is for you, Jerry Jones.
[93] They can only be real men of football genius.
[94] Today we salute you, Justin Herbert, stuck in an elevator.
[95] Justin Herbert stuck in an elevator.
[96] You kept your cool in front of 11 other players, all while the walls felt like they were closing in.
[97] Probably felt just like being in the pocket last season.
[98] But you didn't panic this time.
[99] You hit that emergency elevator call button with such accuracy.
[100] It was almost like a deep pass into triple coverage.
[101] And Johnson would definitely still drop that.
[102] And you did this all in front.
[103] of your brand new head coach.
[104] Why is Harbaugh stealing the elevator out of order?
[105] So here's to you, Justin Herbert, stuck in an elevator.
[106] Crack open a cold one when you get down to the main floor and be grateful.
[107] This wasn't a hypothetical situation, even though that's where you thrive.
[108] Did you guys hear about that story?
[109] Justin Herbert got stuck in an elevator.
[110] Yeah.
[111] I don't believe it.
[112] I don't either.
[113] Apparently, he didn't take his shirt off because everybody else was sweating and Jim Harbaugh said it just showed what a leader he was, that he didn't sweat.
[114] Real men don't sweat, apparently.
[115] I have a question, a very serious question for you guys.
[116] In the Patriots era of your guys' career, who would you have not wanted to be stuck in an elevator with?
[117] This is so easy.
[118] There's no doubt.
[119] I'm thinking the same one.
[120] Go ahead.
[121] You would never want to be stuck in an elevator with Julian Edelman.
[122] The most prima donna, he would be cursing people out.
[123] It'd be everybody else's fault.
[124] it'd be a temper tantrum, like Edelman would by far the worst person that ever, like, you think about the top people like Brady, Belichick, like those people would be in there trying to find a solution.
[125] Edelman would never think of any type of solution.
[126] Like Slater, he would get us.
[127] Edelman, like legit.
[128] I've seen him in some hostile situation.
[129] I've seen them in the training room.
[130] We're getting IVs.
[131] The doctor misses him.
[132] He goes nuts.
[133] I love it.
[134] Doctor gets it in.
[135] He doesn't close it all.
[136] Blood's coming out.
[137] He's cursing people like, Edelman by far.
[138] Like, you would never.
[139] And I don't, not just football, any circumstance in life, if you're on an elevator and something happens and you look across and he's probably looking down in his phone hoping you don't recognize him.
[140] And he looks up and it's him.
[141] You're in for it.
[142] One hell of a time.
[143] So he handles stress really well is what I'm hearing.
[144] Hey, you know what?
[145] It's not his fault.
[146] He probably couldn't even reach the elevator call button.
[147] So, you know, kind of some slack.
[148] All right, Jason, who's your take?
[149] You didn't even mention the fact that he couldn't get his jersey over his shoulder pads before a game and went off on all the equipment managers as if it was their fault.
[150] But I'll make the argument for Rob Gruncowski.
[151] I don't want to be in an elevator for one.
[152] Rob is too damn big.
[153] So if you're in an elevator with him and there's some other offensive line, man, there's absolutely no space.
[154] And to your point, I'm just not trusting Rob to come up with some type of solution to help get us out of that particular.
[155] You're dead wrong.
[156] You think he's the guy.
[157] Highly entertaining to be in the elevator with Grom.
[158] I don't want to be entertained.
[159] I want to get out the elevator.
[160] Supposedly they're in there for hours.
[161] I want to be safe.
[162] They're for hours.
[163] If you're going to be in there for hours, that like you know the only other people I would think of is, I don't want to be on there with offensive alignment.
[164] They're fat.
[165] They're too big.
[166] I don't want to be on there with them.
[167] Other than that, like, I'll take Grong, highly entertaining on that elevator.
[168] You know it.
[169] So you want to want to put them on dance show?
[170] What are we doing?
[171] He's done that.
[172] Well, hopefully that never happens.
[173] And we're never stuck in an elevator.
[174] I that would that would really be traumatizing to me not as traumatizing is watching the Patriots this season though okay moving on now this might be my favorite thing that we do on the show and this is a little therapy session if you will for you guys we call it no offense where you can say whatever you want to say you just have to start the sentence with no offense no offense but I'm starting to think maybe just maybe Zach Wilson wasn't the problem in New York here's why I know it's just preseason we've talked a lot about it it is just preseason But I will give it to Zach Wilson.
[175] He looked like a totally different quarterback in that preseason game against the Cardinals.
[176] He was 16 of 25, 251 passing yards, and three touchdowns.
[177] But that aside, he had a great pocket presence.
[178] He was going through his progressions, picking up on reeds.
[179] He saw man coverage.
[180] He made plays, drop back.
[181] This is a completely different Zach Wilson than we've seen.
[182] And I'll give it to the Cardinals.
[183] Their safeties picked up, but Zach Wilson was still able to make plays.
[184] There was some long two and 20, I think it was.
[185] He had a nice little five -step drop.
[186] picked up on man coverage, stepped up in the pocket, had the confidence we haven't seen from a guy like Zach Wilson in a very long time.
[187] So I think New York may have been the problem.
[188] No offense, New York, but I think you were the problem and I cannot stop thinking about Zach Wilson's ceiling, which is crazy to me because usually it's someone else's mom that's looking up at Zach Wilson's ceiling.
[189] Okay, moving on.
[190] Let's hear your guys's no offense takes.
[191] Please just lay into it, whatever you want to say.
[192] And I know fan base is all excited, but I got to just say this.
[193] no offense, every single rookie quarterback is not the savior of your organization just because six of them were drafted in the first round.
[194] Now, over the past three weeks, we look across every preseason game and we see Caleb Williams rolling to the left, throwing a ball across his body with his right hand.
[195] He's making a beautiful pass in the back of the end zone, the Rome of Dunesay.
[196] We're watching Jaden Daniels carve up the Dolphins defense and he's doing it against the judge.
[197] And all of these different things and everybody's saying, all right, and the Chicago Bears history.
[198] Jaden Daniels is finally going to make the commanders relevant again.
[199] Drake May, it may not have initial.
[200] But what we saw in those two preseason games, he is absolutely the next Tom Brady.
[201] Bow Nix is finally a bigger, faster, and more athletic version of Drew Brees.
[202] And when J .J. McCarthy gets healthy, watch out.
[203] Michael Pennix, he may replace Kirk Cousins this year.
[204] Stop it all.
[205] Dev said it earlier.
[206] We're watching preseason games where nobody's playing that's going to be a out there on Sunday.
[207] And I love all of those players.
[208] I was a six -round traffic.
[209] I was in at the end of the preseason games as well.
[210] I know what it feels like.
[211] But Dev also refers to some of those guys is they're going to be working at local places pretty soon as these weeks come up.
[212] So I have say, pump your breaks and just pause a little bit for the rookie quarterbacks.
[213] They're not all going to work out.
[214] All, Devon, give it to us.
[215] No offense.
[216] All Cowboys fans, this is just the beginning of the downfall of the Dallas Cowboys.
[217] We've always said it, no matter whether they win or lose.
[218] They're still America's team.
[219] Everybody still talks about them.
[220] This is the beginning of the end to the Dallas Cowboys.
[221] You read it earlier.
[222] Jerry Jones talked about he is the FNG.
[223] All of these things, it is just spiraling.
[224] Yeah, get CD land back.
[225] But now you sit here with Michael Parsons and Dak Prescott sitting there wondering when their contracts will come.
[226] Dak Prescott will leave and free agency.
[227] They will resign Michael Parsons.
[228] I don't know who the quarterback will be.
[229] I don't know if they have a plan.
[230] So Cowboys fans, you thought the only bad thing was that your team let you down in the playoffs.
[231] You were about to be welcome to your team not winning many games and people are going to begin to stop talking about the Cowboys and it'll be a new team.
[232] I don't know who it is.
[233] Oh, I hope so.
[234] Never.
[235] Never.
[236] I hope so.
[237] They aren't even, they're not America's team because they aren't even Texas's team.
[238] Like the Texans now might be, it might be the new America's team.
[239] I can't wait to see that game, though.
[240] That is going to be an electric, electric.
[241] All right, great takes.
[242] I mean, obviously, and you guys would have great takes, but, and Devin took a little shot of me on, this is perfect.
[243] This is perfect offensive line material.
[244] I appreciate you guys getting into the theme of the show.
[245] Not much can insult me. I'm a Packers fan.
[246] Just let me have it.
