[134] Psalm 111.
[135] Praise for God's wonderful works.
[136] Praise the Lord.
[137] I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright in the congregation.
[138] Great are the works of the Lord studied by all who have pleasure in them.
[139] Full of honor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness.
[140] endures forever.
[141] He has caused his wonderful works to be remembered.
[142] The Lord is gracious and merciful.
[143] He provides food for those who fear him.
[144] He is ever mindful of his covenant.
[145] He has shown his people the power of his works in giving them the heritage of the nations.
[146] The works of his hands are faithful and just.
[147] All his precepts are trustworthy.
[148] They are established forever and ever to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.
[149] He sent redemption to his people.
[150] He has commanded his covenant forever.
[151] Holy and awesome is his name.
[152] The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
[153] A good understanding have all those who practice it.
[154] His praise endures forever.
[155] Father in heaven, it is true.
[156] Your praise endures forever, and we give you thanks.
[157] Let us praise you every day.
[158] Let us be like Judah.
[159] that praise go up first.
[160] In this moment, we offer you our first fruits.
[161] In this moment, we offer you our hearts.
[162] We offer you our everything in the best way, Lord God, that we know that we can love you, these three ways that we know we can love you.
[163] We can show you our love by worshiping you.
[164] We can show you our love by obeying your commandments.
[165] And we can show you our love by loving and caring for our brother and our sister among us.
[166] Help us to do all those three things, Lord God.
[167] Help us to be people who love you with everything we have and everything we are.
[168] in Jesus name we pray amen in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit amen so at the book of numbers as I said it was I warned you going to be some names and the families of the people the tribes of Israel we can lose a little bit of the story here but keep this in the context of the story at the very beginning of numbers we went through the numbering of the tribes of Israel and now here at the end of numbers they're numbering the tribes of Israel why are they doing this well just like in the beginning because who did God save from slavery in Egypt?
[169] Let's number them.
[170] As they're wandering through the wilderness, let's number them.
[171] Because God's intention was that they would go up in and take the land, right?
[172] Take possession of the land.
[173] He was going to give to them, but they failed.
[174] And so now here, 40 years later, they're numbering once again, who are the fighting men?
[175] What's the number of the fighting men in each one of these tribes?
[176] And this is really important because why?
[177] Because the next step is going to be battle.
[178] The next step is going to be people of Israel, tribes of Israel.
[179] go to war.
[180] Now, interestingly, some of the tribes grew, some of them did not grow.
[181] They got smaller.
[182] Overall, though, what we have is we have very little change.
[183] Ultimately, there's roughly 603 ,550 who were in the first census, and at the end, we have 601 ,730 are now with the people of Israel.
[184] So it went down by little less than 2 ,000 people at the end of numbers, is the beginning of numbers.
[185] Moses also makes it very, very clear that here they are, they're going to take the land, but also the land shall be divided for an inheritance according to the number of names, right?
[186] So for a large tribe, they get a large inheritance.
[187] For a small tribe, they get a small inheritance.
[188] At the same time, this is so, strikes me as so powerful, is that they wouldn't say, okay, well, you're the tribe of Benjamin, therefore you can have like phenomenal land.
[189] You're the tribe of Manassah, you're going to have terrible land.
[190] What they did is they did it by lot.
[191] It's the fairest way you can do this, divided up the property according to the size, according to the size of the tribe, and then said, okay, according to the lot, that's where your land is going to be.
[192] Lastly, of course, we have the family of Levi, and they did not get an inheritance.
[193] God himself was their inheritance, as scripture has already made very, very clear.
[194] And so they will live in those towns.
[195] They will also will lead worship in the place that God will point out, he has has not yet done this because they have not gone the promised land they will lead worship in the place where the arc of the covenant and the temple essentially ultimately the tent of meeting will be set up but right now they do not have any inheritance except for god himself which is a remarkable thing for us to be reminded of number of things the numbers we get numbered because why we're called to go into battle number two we get numbered because we're given land according to their size number three that land is given by lot not when i say lot i don't mean the lot the you know nephew of i mean lowercase l lot just being a jokester um but here we are today given that space by god's hand so again you can say chance but also we would say as believers that god is involved in everything by providence and there are those people those levites whose inheritance is not land and his inheritance is not property, but whose inheritance is God himself.
[196] We are continuing this journey every single day.
[197] We're getting close to the end of the books of Numbers and Deuteronomy.
[198] We're going to go into the Promised Land soon with Joshua and then life in the promised land, judges, Ruth, that's all coming up very, very soon.
[199] But we're not in any rush to get through numbers, to get to the end of Deuteronomy because God continues to speak to us.
[200] He continues to shape our minds, our hearts, and how we see him and his words.
[201] and his world by his scripture.
[202] So keep praying for each other.
[203] You guys, we've gotten to the end of day 73.
[204] Keep on moving forward.
[205] Don't give up.
[206] I am praying for you.
[207] Please pray for me. My name is Father Mike.
[208] I cannot wait to see you tomorrow.
[209] God bless.
