[2] Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was re -elected as Republican leader on Wednesday, defeating challenger Senator Rick Scott of Florida.
[3] The McConnell Scott battle represents a growing clash within the party after it underperformed in the midterms.
[4] President Biden said Wednesday that a missile that landed inside Poland was unlikely to have been fired by Russia.
[5] On Tuesday, the missile struck a farm 15 miles inside Poland, killing two people.
[6] The incident sparked discussions about convening NATO members to determine whether a military response was warranted under the organization's Article 5.
[7] Former President Trump's daughter, Ivanka, who played a key role in his administration alongside her husband, Jared Kushner, was conspicuously missing from Trump's presidential announcement at Moralago on Tuesday.
[8] In a statement, Ivanka explained that she supports her father, but, quote, This time around, I am choosing to prioritize my young children in the private life we are creating as a family.
[9] The Congressional House Financial Services Committee announced a bipartisan hearing on Wednesday into the collapse of crypto exchange, FTX.
[10] According to the press release, the committee expects to hear from the companies and individuals involved in the alleged scandal, including Sam Bankman -Fried, Alameda Research, Binance, FTX, and related entities.
[11] In the Senate, Senator Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming said this week that there is bipartisan consensus for greater regulation of the crypto market.
[12] Kirsten Gillibrand and I have been talking to both regulators and the regulated community for almost a full year now, floating our draft, getting ideas, and getting them incorporated into our bill.
[13] That bill is now in the Senate Finance Committee.
[14] It's big and it's comprehensive.
[15] So next steps are to get that bill moving or at least get the priority concepts in that bill moving in various Senate committees.
[16] In the wake of the Republican Party's failure to take back the Senate, two GOP senators are calling for an audit of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
[17] Senators Marcia Blackburn of Tennessee and Tom Tillis of North Carolina say an independent review of the committee should be held to determine how.
[18] how money was spent and investigate the lack of results in gaining a majority in the Senate.
[19] This week, the Senate voted 62 to 36 to end the COVID -19 national state of emergency.
[20] The resolution now heads to the House, but the White House has already promised to veto it.
[21] The Biden administration would like to extend the national emergency until April of 2023.
[22] The legislation was introduced by GOP Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas, who argued that the Biden administration is using the emergency to expand government powers.
[23] Congress must take the responsible action of reining in this massive expansion of government and restore Americans' fundamental rights by terminating the COVID -19 National Emergency Declaration.
[24] As for the elements of the pandemic response that are working needed, let's codify them into law.
[25] Let's work with the White House and with their friends across the aisle and exercise our Article I powers and do so through the legislative process.
[26] A Georgia judge overturned a state law Tuesday that bans abortion of underage.
[27] born children with a heartbeat at six weeks gestational age.
[28] Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney cited with Sister Song Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective, ruling that some provisions of the Life Act are unconstitutional.
[29] Arizonaans have voted to offer in -state tuition rates to non -citizen students.
[30] Students must attend at least two years of high school in Arizona and graduate in order to qualify.
[31] A federal judge has ruled that the Biden administration must stop using a provision known as Title 42 to expel illegal aliens from the United States.
[32] The L .A. mayor's race has still not been called, but Progressive Democrat Karen Bass has lengthened her lead over businessman and moderate Democrat Rick Caruso.
[33] There are hundreds of thousands of ballots still uncounted.
[34] As of Wednesday morning, Bass led Caruso by about 36 ,000 votes at 52 .5 % to 47 .5%.
[35] An unknown driver crashed his car into multiple police recruits in California on Wednesday during the recruits morning run.
[36] The crash left at least five recruits in critical condition and 22 total injured.
[37] An Indonesian ferry transporting 271 people caught fire on Wednesday off the coast of Bali and rescue efforts are underway as the number of casualties in those injured is unknown.
