Giant Bombcast XX
[0] Hey everyone, it's Tuesday, September the 13th, 2011.
[1] I'm so tired.
[2] It's the Giant Bomb Cast.
[3] I'm Ryan Davis.
[4] Vinny Caravella is here.
[5] That's me. Vinny Smerichella.
[6] That's me in a nutshell.
[7] Vinny Smellon Caras.
[8] Fellas.
[9] Smellon Fellas.
[10] Vinny.
[11] You got the first part, right?
[12] Damn, you got burned.
[13] Something.
[14] Melancholy and the infinite Vinny.
[15] Brad Schubaker's here.
[16] I could go for infinite Vinny.
[17] Yeah.
[18] Just turn that Vinny all the way up.
[19] Unlock the mutator.
[20] Do I have to just punch Justin Bailey into you somehow?
[21] Yeah, you have to use a game shark.
[22] How do I attach the game shark to you?
[23] I'll talk to you after the show.
[24] Okay.
[25] Is that proprietary?
[26] Yes.
[27] Am I going to want to hose it off afterwards?
[28] And before.
[29] I share my GameShark.
[30] Oh, that's...
[31] What are you going to do?
[32] They're expensive.
[33] They're hard to find now.
[34] I put the Konami code into my new touchpad this weekend.
[35] Yeah, how'd that work out?
[36] It worked.
[37] That's how you enable developer mode on that thing.
[38] What?
[39] Yeah.
[40] Like, you type it into the search field.
[41] You transliterate the Konami code.
[42] Like, you type the letters up, up, down, down, et cetera, into the search field on the touchpad.
[43] Do you have to type select start if you want to do two -player?
[44] No. That's weird.
[45] That's kind of dumb.
[46] Kind of.
[47] It is.
[48] I wonder why that thing is.
[49] Yeah.
[50] But then I found you can also type WebOS 2009 0606 and it does the same thing.
[51] Because that's way easier.
[52] But not as, I don't know, elegant.
[53] Yeah.
[54] You only do it once.
[55] What do you think of that thing?
[56] It's all right.
[57] Yeah.
[58] I almost brought it in here.
[59] Yeah.
[60] But you already have an iPad here.
[61] Yeah.
[62] I didn't see a reason to have two tablets.
[63] You brought a real tablet.
[64] Whatever.
[65] It's all right.
[66] I was close to getting one of those.
[67] It's a real tablet.
[68] It does flash.
[69] Thank you.
[70] Finally.
[71] I overclocked it.
[72] You get overclocked?
[73] Totally did.
[74] That's dumb.
[75] Is it water cooled now?
[76] I was looking at it.
[77] I was doing some PC stuff this weekend.
[78] I was looking at it because I...
[79] boot it up my bios has is having trouble keeping like my boot drive information saved and every once in a while i was like a problem yeah yeah because the battery's dead on your board yeah maybe i just never i never turn it off so the rare occasion i do boot it up and then it like goes past bios and just sits there oh no everything's broken It's like, no, no. Oh, wait, that's right.
[80] It's trying to boot my printer for some reason.
[81] It's like that defaults to the first device.
[82] Perfect.
[83] I'm like, no, my printer can't.
[84] No, man. My printer is not a bootable device.
[85] I could make it one, but I'm not going to.
[86] That seems weird.
[87] It has a bunch of memory card slots in the front, and those straight up mount as drives.
[88] Oh, yeah.
[89] So you could just – Could you put Ubuntu on that printer?
[90] Probably.
[91] I'd probably put Windows on that printer.
[92] CMOS.
[93] It's just like that part of it just acts as a drive.
[94] And it only shows up that way because I have like a one gig memory, like Sony memory stick just kind of sitting in there because it's something that I had.
[95] Where else would you put it?
[96] Yeah.
[97] Nowhere else.
[98] It's like if I don't put this here, I'm just going to lose it.
[99] You didn't introduce Jeff.
[100] I didn't.
[101] Jeff's here too.
[102] Jeff Kirsman.
[103] Hello.
[104] I'm sorry.
[105] I didn't mean to not introduce you.
[106] I'm a video game player.
[107] That's what you do.
[108] Yes.
[109] No. Talking about video games here.
[110] And you're a Leo.
[111] I am exclusively going to cover touchpad games from now on.
[112] Finally.
[113] Brad, what's the difference between BIOS and CMOS?
[114] Oh, God.
[115] I used to know that.
[116] Is there a legitimate difference?
[117] Is the CMOS the physical piece of hardware?
[118] Isn't that the complementary metal oxide semiconductor?
[119] Wow.
[120] Isn't it?
[121] Isn't it?
[122] That's bad as shit.
[123] You tell me. I never even knew what CMOS stood for.
[124] What's BIOS stand for?
[125] Basic input output system.
[126] I know me some acronyms.
[127] Yeah, so that would make sense that CMOS would be the hardware.
[128] I believe the BIOS is the software.
[129] Because CMOS is the thing where if you put the jumper on just right, it'll wipe the BIOS, right?
[130] Yeah.
[131] Maybe.
[132] That's wiping the CMOS.
[133] I mean, I think that the CMOS is like what holds the BIOS, right?
[134] What's SCSI stand for?
[135] Single channel something interconnect, I think.
[136] Yeah.
[137] What's SATA stand for?
[138] Serial.
[139] Stop caring at that point.
[140] Serial ATA.
[141] Active transfer.
[142] I can't remember what ATA stands for.
[143] What's IDE stand for?
[144] I don't think I ever knew that.
[145] Internal drive interface.
[146] That was it.
[147] I think that might be right.
[148] Device interface.
[149] Device interface.
[150] Thank you.
[151] Interface doesn't start with an E. Interface.
[152] Interface.
[153] Nice try.
[154] Yeah, that's good enough for me. Good job, Brad.
[155] Thanks for ruining the fun.
[156] Again, fact -checking is just...
[157] If I had my touchpad in here, I could pick it up.
[158] If we're doing anything other than going with it, this podcast goes to four hours.
[159] IRQ.
[160] Interrupt Request.
[161] Request.
[162] Yeah, two letters, not just IR, because it's like, wait, IR already stands for something.
[163] Pine.
[164] DMA.
[165] Pine stands for something.
[166] Yes, there you go.
[167] Recursive Acronyms.
[168] Yes.
[169] Direct Memory Addressing or something like that?
[170] I don't know.
[171] I think that's right.
[172] Worst thing then, computer acronyms are outdated computer acronyms.
[173] Yeah.
[174] Those are the best.
[175] I don't have any.
[176] Any context for any...
[177] Plug that into your RS -232 port.
[178] What?
[179] Those are like the incantations of a lost empire.
[180] I don't understand.
[181] Those are like the old PC.
[182] Those are like the magic spells of this long -lost civilization.
[183] Like the game port.
[184] Yeah.
[185] You know, port for games.
[186] They still have AGP ports.
[187] Are those gone?
[188] They're all PC Extreme or whatever.
[189] He's a local bus, man. I ain't screwing around.
[190] He's a local bus.
[191] And it was AGP for a couple years.
[192] Oh, PCI.
[193] Yes, PCI.
[194] PCI and AGP existed complementary to each other, and then PCIE came out.
[195] That's what's still around, isn't it?
[196] Yeah, that is what trumped AGP.
[197] Okay.
[198] And now they have stupid names like Thunderbolt.
[199] Dumb.
[200] I know.
[201] All the buses are just cables.
[202] Dumb.
[203] Thunderbolt's awesome.
[204] Thunderbolt.
[205] No, I really...
[206] I use my Thunderbolt.
[207] For one point, there's no such thing as a Thunderbolt.
[208] There's lightning bolts.
[209] Thunder doesn't make bolts.
[210] That's why they named it that, so they could get the patent.
[211] It's nonsense.
[212] It's a nonsense word.
[213] If they try to get a patent on lightning bolt, they'd be like, no, fucking Lightning Incorporated has the patent on lightning bolts.
[214] Well, how about Thunderbolt?
[215] That doesn't exist.
[216] I guess you can patent that.
[217] It's a company that makes bolts.
[218] Thunder.
[219] Thunderbolt.
[220] Benny, how are you doing?
[221] All right.
[222] We survived the Big Live Live show live last Friday.
[223] Kind of.
[224] Mostly.
[225] Mostly intact.
[226] Did we?
[227] Or did we?
[228] Maybe we're all dead.
[229] Oh, that's my dream.
[230] I wish...
[231] This is our new podcast in this room forever.
[232] Yeah, this is our Hellraiser punishment of having to now go through the Big Live Live show over and over again.
[233] Hotter and hotter and hotter.
[234] Today's actually September 8th.
[235] Just keeps on going again and again and again.
[236] The worst day ever.
[237] Yeah, I wish there were just some camera to show a pile of all the stuff that died equipment -wise during the Big Live Live show.
[238] There could be.
[239] You have it in a pile.
[240] No, I'm starting to send it back.
[241] Oh, is it getting boxed up now?
[242] RMA notices.
[243] Yeah, it was mini HDMI.
[244] My converters died to bring you – Yeah, the big live live show.
[245] The big live live show.
[246] Somehow.
[247] Somehow.
[248] Thursday night.
[249] Thursday – let's say Thursday noon to Thursday evening.
[250] Coming to the office on Thursday morning and being like, hey, we did a little – we had a big meeting where we ran through the whole schedule.
[251] Kind of hammered out some of the last details that we needed to for guests and for setups and stuff.
[252] And you guys were well on your way to setting things up.
[253] We were running cable through walls.
[254] Yep, yep.
[255] And then all of the gear that we were expecting that we were renting for the show showed up.
[256] It's like, oh, everything that we needed is here.
[257] Awesome.
[258] And it's like we're on our way to having a kick -ass live show on Friday.
[259] Plug in the first camera and we're ready to go.
[260] Plug it in.
[261] And no signal.
[262] No signal.
[263] Eight of the cables I bought.
[264] Actually, all eight of the cables I bought dead on arrival.
[265] And this includes six 100 -foot cables.
[266] No, it was eight 100 -foot cables.
[267] It was eight 100 -foot cables.
[268] We'd only run six of them.
[269] Oh, Jesus.
[270] Okay.
[271] You had figured out at a certain point.
[272] No, I bought extra.
[273] I was like, okay, in case some of these are broken or something, at least I'll have some extra.
[274] And all eight?
[275] All eight dead.
[276] So what does STI stand for?
[277] Oh, I can't remember.
[278] Make up something.
[279] Is that what they were?
[280] They were SDI cables?
[281] SDI cables, yeah.
[282] I mean, that's not like a cable you just go to Walmart and get more of, right?
[283] No, I wouldn't know where to locally buy a 100 -foot cable.
[284] That's like a professional -grade cable.
[285] I mean, it's just wire within it that just has a high bandwidth.
[286] Right, but it's not something that normal people need.
[287] No, no. So we couldn't just go out and replace them?
[288] I don't know.
[289] That was bad.
[290] That was terrifying.
[291] Was that a monoprice order?
[292] Yeah, and usually they're fantastic.
[293] The thing is I double -checked and I triple -checked after I bought them.
[294] I was like, man, did I buy the wrong cable, which would be highly unlikely because they're just B &C cables, which is the connector that's on the end.
[295] And I looked at the product number and I was like, no, this is exactly the same product we're using throughout our entire studio.
[296] I don't know, it must have just been a bad run from the machine that came out.
[297] I have no idea.
[298] No idea, but yeah.
[299] Because you guys had to MacGyver your barrel connectors to the rescue.
[300] So luckily, the day before, so Monoprice usually ships about 24 hours.
[301] You can put the overnight.
[302] So like on Tuesday or Wednesday, the show starts on Friday, I was putting an order for just some extra stuff.
[303] It was the stuff for the PCs.
[304] It was like the switch and some Ethernet cables so we could set up all those StarCraft PCs.
[305] And I was sitting there.
[306] I'm like, I should just.
[307] I should just buy some extra 25 -footers just in case.
[308] I'll buy like five 25 -footers just in case we have to go a little bit longer or something like that.
[309] They're not too expensive.
[310] The eight was like $120 worth of cables.
[311] They were like $10.
[312] That's $120 for 800 feet of cable.
[313] Yeah.
[314] When you put it like that, right.
[315] So wound up having to use the 25 -footers.
[316] connect those, barrel connect those to make the two cables we were able to use.
[317] That was crazy.
[318] That was not fun.
[319] And then a bunch of converter boxes.
[320] Just blew up.
[321] Expensive little converter boxes exploding.
[322] And that was the thing, the lead -in to the Capcom segment, right?
[323] Those boxes were just all...
[324] That was the discovery.
[325] And then while all that was happening, I somehow didn't put on a microphone or my microphone fell off or whatever happened.
[326] So the first...
[327] Yeah, so that was going into the Capcom, but luckily we were able to use Component to come out of the 360 on that.
[328] The big thing was the HDMI, what we used to capture HDMI was broken.
[329] So that's why the iPad segment was the biggest thing because there's no other way to come out of that.
[330] What is component?
[331] I don't think component does what you want it to do.
[332] I think component might just be for movies.
[333] I'm not 100 % sure.
[334] Because there is some logic going on inside the iPad that's just not like, hey, I'll spit out the screen kind of thing.
[335] It's like, no, this specific content.
[336] Yeah, I'll send this out.
[337] So normally we do that HDMI and then that was...
[338] I think I spent the most time on that during the entire show.
[339] For about four or five segments, I was coming back there.
[340] You were hopping back out, and we were trying stuff out.
[341] What the hell is going on?
[342] I was having you and, I think, Thomas lean back on the couch.
[343] Right, so you can toss it.
[344] I'm like, all right, I've got to toss to this next segment here.
[345] Duck down.
[346] Get out of the way.
[347] And the biggest problem was there were two boxes that failed.
[348] One was the one you plug the device into, and the other one was the device that we plug into the TV, and we usually connect those.
[349] Two of those were broken, not knowing that both of those were broken, being like, well, this one isn't working, but I assume this one's working, so I'm plugging everything else into that.
[350] And now nothing's working because not knowing that this device is totally broken.
[351] Scramble.
[352] Go.
[353] Made it work.
[354] And then we made it work.
[355] We shot stuff off a TV.
[356] I'd lick my fingers and touch two different things.
[357] I knew something bad had come to pass when this morning I saw you with, what is it, a voltmeter, a voltimeter?
[358] Yeah.
[359] Sticking prongs directly into electrical outlets.
[360] Yeah, because I'm kind of like, how could this possibly happen?
[361] How could three pieces of our gear just blow up?
[362] Yeah, man. So, yeah.
[363] Four, I thought.
[364] Three of those boxes exploded.
[365] It's backfeeding power to the line.
[366] So I was checking the power coming out of the wall being like, is there like too much coming out of here?
[367] And then I was checking all the power adapters, the DC power adapters.
[368] Is there too much?
[369] Is there voltage coming in over the wires or whatever?
[370] I don't know, man. Drew and I and Thomas.
[371] who is interning right now for video stuff, literally coming up with, like, JFK -style diagrams of how this could have happened, who shot first, did the shot come from the grassy knoll.
[372] Oh, you guys tried to figure out, like, okay, was the last time that any of this stuff worked correctly.
[373] Yeah, let's walk through the crime scene of, like, did this guy touch this?
[374] Who was responsible for this?
[375] Who did this?
[376] When did this box talk to this box?
[377] Maybe this is a culprit, and he's putting out.
[378] It was just weird.
[379] I don't know.
[380] They're all getting sent back to seven different vendors.
[381] I'd call Monoprice and be like, you sent me eight cables.
[382] None of them worked.
[383] How ridiculous does that sound?
[384] I only imagine the response on the other.
[385] What?
[386] You're plugging something in wrong.
[387] You don't know how to use a cable.
[388] No, I know how cables work.
[389] That's what I would say.
[390] I'd be like.
[391] Oh, come on.
[392] I'd imagine someone ordering eight 100 -foot SDI cables would know.
[393] I know, but wouldn't you assume that if somebody came back to you and would be like, none of them worked?
[394] Are you sure you're doing it right?
[395] Are you sure you know what you're doing?
[396] It's like six out of eight.
[397] I'd be like, okay.
[398] Obviously, if you're able to get two of those working, then there's some sort of inconsistency with the materials.
[399] But if full -on, fully, none of them are working for you, Then the only other thing I can imagine them being like is – they probably wouldn't say it, but like, yeah, we know.
[400] There's a whole batch that like fucked over a lot of people.
[401] That's the only thing I can imagine.
[402] Like the machine messed up.
[403] It's like shorting out the cable or something.
[404] Two days of bad SDI cables off this line.
[405] Yeah, because they're wrapped.
[406] They're machine wrapped.
[407] I don't know if they test them or whatever.
[408] I'm not sure.
[409] Model price is great.
[410] We buy a bunch of stuff from them.
[411] It's just the worst possible time.
[412] I know.
[413] I was shocked too.
[414] I know you're going to be real weirded out when you read this email that says, these eight cables are messed up.
[415] We tried them out.
[416] I imagine we order enough stuff from them at this point that they're not going to be like, oh, you just try to put one on us.
[417] You've got like the premium, like the gold card points or whatever.
[418] Diamond membership.
[419] They're like, hey, we'll give you the bulk rate, even though if you order one thing now, we order a lot of cables.
[420] Yes.
[421] I think it was stupid, but maybe it's just one of those things that I'm glad I was like, I'll just order these.
[422] Something's going to go wrong.
[423] We're going to need some extra cables.
[424] Yeah, a couple extra 25s.
[425] And, man, we used every cable.
[426] Yep.
[427] And we did it.
[428] And we put on a show.
[429] Yeah.
[430] And it worked.
[431] As long as it looked like nothing was on fire from the other end of the camera, I was happy.
[432] I was really happy this year.
[433] So it's crazy this year, too, not to spend too much time talking about the Big Live Live show, but last year we did this with three cameras.
[434] I was going to say also, like, even with all of these issues, like, still went in so much more prepared for this show.
[435] This year we did it with starting out with, I think, eight or nine cameras.
[436] Let's see here.
[437] We had three, five, six.
[438] Yeah, like nine cameras.
[439] And last year we only had three inputs on the machine.
[440] Right.
[441] But we did it with three cameras.
[442] And then we have all the gameplay direct feed stuff, so we were swapping cables.
[443] Yeah.
[444] This year we were like, well, let's get extra cameras so we don't have to swap stuff.
[445] So we did the stupid thing of filling up all.
[446] Now we have eight inputs, nine cameras, and all the dirt.
[447] Still having to swap it.
[448] So there's a great document.
[449] Maybe someday we'll put it up or I'll tell Drew to just put it up.
[450] That's like six pages long that between each segment runs down exactly what we need to do.
[451] Okay.
[452] While Jeff is playing Street Fighter or while a Capcom segment is going on, he's playing Marvel, we need to change Aux 5 for camera 3, turn on this microphone, run to the back bar, swap camera 7 with the bar cam.
[453] And it just literally goes down each segment.
[454] We were using two audio mixers because we had so many mics coming in.
[455] So Drew had an organist either side.
[456] It was real fun in the control room.
[457] It was a real fun time.
[458] I never saw it, but I assume it was.
[459] You guys didn't look.
[460] It wasn't that – well, the only crazy part was out when, like we said, the iPad stuff.
[461] That's when I was like – when all that stuff just started breaking.
[462] I knew the first time that Vinny ran out of the control room to the studio.
[463] I'm like, uh -oh.
[464] Yeah, there's definitely a moment where I was like, oh, man, what's he doing out here?
[465] He should be back there.
[466] Why isn't he back there?
[467] Because the show started off, I was real – Just calm.
[468] I was like, we got everything.
[469] We ran through everything.
[470] I was walking around.
[471] I think I walked in.
[472] I'm looking for my coffee, like when you're doing that first Dreamcast segment.
[473] Like, yeah, we're good to go.
[474] And then as soon as it was like, this isn't working.
[475] Yeah, at all.
[476] And I was like, we'll use that.
[477] That's not working.
[478] We're out of things.
[479] Those are the only options we have here.
[480] And we're two hours into the show.
[481] Right.
[482] Anyway, fun show.
[483] Yeah.
[484] I enjoyed it.
[485] It's fun to do.
[486] Fun to be part of.
[487] So I collapsed this weekend.
[488] Yeah.
[489] I was super exhausted from the whole week.
[490] Yeah.
[491] And I collapsed this weekend.
[492] But I did manage to beat The Witcher 2.
[493] Wow.
[494] End of The Witcher Chronicles for now.
[495] Now I'm going to play it all in Italian.
[496] Now what?
[497] Yes.
[498] And it's native Italian.
[499] How it was meant to be played.
[500] So that game is really good.
[501] Yeah.
[502] Does it end well?
[503] Yes.
[504] Do you have any compulsion?
[505] To play it again?
[506] To play it again.
[507] Yes.
[508] Yeah.
[509] I do.
[510] So that game is really good, and I don't think I've ever seen this before in a game, and maybe you guys can fill me in if I'm missing one.
[511] You make a choice about...
[512] The part where the two ships, you can capture one and put them together.
[513] That's Galaga does that.
[514] Yeah.
[515] All right, sorry.
[516] No, it's like, yeah, the ship comes down and sucks it up.
[517] It's an enemy for a while.
[518] It has to shoot at you.
[519] But you can even kill it.
[520] You can actually kill your own ship.
[521] So that's been done before.
[522] And it's got tits.
[523] Right.
[524] Yeah, that's exactly.
[525] But full nudity.
[526] Yeah, this is everything.
[527] All right, well.
[528] I mean, it's a little bit innovative.
[529] Does that have white hair?
[530] Yeah.
[531] Oh, man. So about a third of the way through, let's say, it's like the end of chapter one there.
[532] I think there are three or four chapters.
[533] You make a choice.
[534] I'm going to go with Ryan.
[535] I'm going to go with Jeff.
[536] Go with Ryan.
[537] Go with Ryan.
[538] Ryan is the leader of, like, the rebels, and they have good cause, let's say.
[539] Everything's kind of gray, right?
[540] So it's not like, you're a terrorist.
[541] It's like, okay, I kind of see where you're coming from.
[542] And Jeff is the leader of, like, the police, who's like, you know, hey, I'm a cop.
[543] Fuck you, bitch.
[544] But he also is like, I'm kind of on the side of the right thing, but whatever.
[545] I've also got stuff going on.
[546] I'm the law.
[547] So you can either go with the law or you can kind of go with the rebels.
[548] And again, it doesn't make you feel like, well, I'm going to be the bad guy.
[549] I'm going to go with Ryan or I'm going to be the good guy.
[550] It's very gray.
[551] But so I was like, all right, well.
[552] I had made some choices before, so I'm going to go with Ryan.
[553] It takes you to an entirely different path through the entire game, like different areas.
[554] You never see the stuff that I would have seen with you.
[555] The stuff that you would have seen with me would have really changed your life.
[556] It was just beautiful.
[557] Just everything I could have shown you.
[558] So this is actually a whole part of the game that you never see.
[559] Different areas, different zones, different character interactions.
[560] that are happening simultaneously while I'm with Ryan that part's going on right and then I didn't wait around for you you did your own stuff I gave the option but you know you kept on with your life you gotta move on with your life he abandoned you and I was happy when I saw you again later on when you were with the other guy that you got that was like oh good for you you found somebody you paired up life is good now I'm really happy for you I just want you to be happy I am I'm happy and I'm also happy for you happy that you're happy But, you know, it was...
[561] You deserve to find someone.
[562] That's great.
[563] I'm glad you could finish the game without me. Yeah.
[564] But, I mean, that's both...
[565] Like, that's kind of everything that you would ask for in a, like, heavy choice -driven kind of game of, like, no, it's not just like, oh, this guy acts kind of gruff towards you when you go and talk to him for this mission.
[566] No, he's gone.
[567] It's like, no, you are...
[568] No, it's not even he's gone.
[569] It's like, no, I am on the other fucking side of this continent or something.
[570] So that...
[571] Well, now you're actually, like, fighting against what he's doing.
[572] Sure.
[573] So that part's really great.
[574] So the fact that, like, hey, you want to play it again, you're not just going to see, like, make the bad choice this time.
[575] That you'll be like, play this entirely different sequence of events that would have played out, that plays out, you know, simultaneously yours, but you won't see it.
[576] So that's why I would play it again.
[577] Like, I can't help but also think, because that's, yeah, that is great.
[578] That is demonstrably an awesome thing to do with a game where kind of the choices – I didn't feel like I had short shrift or anything like that.
[579] No, but I still can't help but think about like the developers who worked on a dozen hours of quests or whatever for this other side that just you literally would never see.
[580] Well, I think – I think a lot of people play that game twice.
[581] I guess so.
[582] So you're going to wait for the fancy edition?
[583] I might wait.
[584] I don't know.
[585] It was about 45 hours in.
[586] There's no new game plus kind of thing, which I kind of really do wish.
[587] Just for a game like that where you're like, well, I don't want to spend all that time.
[588] going through and grinding out stuff again, like making sure I have enough gold to buy this, which was never a really big deal.
[589] But basically, I just want to see the content.
[590] I don't want to do the leveling anymore.
[591] Just let me go through the stuff I missed.
[592] That new game plus is called Mods That Make You Invincible.
[593] Yeah.
[594] There are some of those, I think.
[595] Trainers.
[596] Sure.
[597] Witcher 2 Trainers.
[598] That's plus four, something like that.
[599] Health, gold, swords.
[600] Things are so weird.
[601] Why are they all in German?
[602] I don't know.
[603] Don't deal with trainers.
[604] It's because they're always released by weird Swedish pirate groups.
[605] Hacker.
[606] Yeah, it's always like, we cracked the game and also released this trainer.
[607] All right.
[608] Razor 1911, bitch.
[609] That game is pretty good.
[610] It just gets better and better as you go on.
[611] The combat gets so much easier and better and better and better as you move on.
[612] I didn't have any of the problems I had in an early game.
[613] I don't think it's because I got better because we all know that's not true.
[614] You just powered up.
[615] I just got better swords and suddenly...
[616] Yeah, because that game is just straight up fucking hard at the beginning.
[617] Well, they give you things like, oh, now you can block from all sides that you don't have in the beginning.
[618] It's also like, bless you, it's also like, hey, you won't take 200 % damage when somebody hits you from the back.
[619] So there's stuff that eventually makes you...
[620] reasonable against groups of people.
[621] Sure.
[622] Yeah, because that group combat can be a...
[623] That's where it always falls apart.
[624] Yeah.
[625] Hey, you can counter now.
[626] Like, stuff like that.
[627] Great.
[628] Do I not die in, like, three sword strokes now?
[629] Because that was always...
[630] No. That was just the bastard thing.
[631] That was five.
[632] Hey, I'd take it, man. So, yeah, by the end of the game, I had no problem with any of the enemies of the combat.
[633] I didn't really wind up using much of the magic or any stuff like that, but it was really...
[634] It was a really, really good game.
[635] And very well done.
[636] Dialogue is fantastic.
[637] So Vinny Caravella's Witcher game of 2011.
[638] Is it Witcher or Witcher 2?
[639] Oh, man. I'm going to pick here.
[640] Yeah, I'm going to make you pick.
[641] Selfish choice.
[642] Which is the better Witcher?
[643] I choose myself.
[644] I'm the best Witcher.
[645] I did it.
[646] I did it.
[647] I don't know.
[648] How do you feel about the changes between the two games?
[649] They're so different.
[650] Really?
[651] Yeah.
[652] They really are very different.
[653] I'd say The Witcher 2 is the game you'd want to play.
[654] And without having played The Witcher 1?
[655] Yep.
[656] You still going to go through that fiction?
[657] You still reading the books?
[658] I've only got that one left until they translate it.
[659] I'm not buying any other languages.
[660] You did already, though.
[661] I know.
[662] Besides that one.
[663] Okay.
[664] Yeah, I'll read that Italian one.
[665] It'll take me like a year.
[666] But yeah.
[667] Somebody sent me a friend of hers or his.
[668] I did translations.
[669] Oh, nice.
[670] Yeah.
[671] I'll see how that goes.
[672] The Witcher community is great.
[673] I bet.
[674] It's fantastic.
[675] So then after that, I was like, man, I've been witching a long time.
[676] From Witcher 1 to Witcher 2.
[677] It's been a while.
[678] What do I do with my life now?
[679] I saw you asking for recommendations.
[680] Yeah.
[681] So I've got Deus Ex.
[682] I've got a copy of Catherine I borrowed from Joey.
[683] Space Marine.
[684] And there's something else.
[685] Castlevania.
[686] Castlevania, which I've got from Gamefly.
[687] Oh, God, really?
[688] Yeah.
[689] Still?
[690] Send that back.
[691] Dude.
[692] I kind of want to try it.
[693] Have you ever put it in?
[694] No. You've bought that game at least twice over now.
[695] I was going to say, you're still subscribed to Gamefly?
[696] In Gamefly fees?
[697] Yeah.
[698] What are you doing, man?
[699] Castlevania.
[700] You've got to get...
[701] No, no. Castlevania.
[702] Send it back and cancel your subscription.
[703] What are you doing?
[704] What are you doing?
[705] I'm waiting for them to rent out racing wheels.
[706] I bought Castlevania at least once from Gamefly.
[707] In monthly fees.
[708] Yeah.
[709] I might actually have two copies of Castlevania.
[710] You do.
[711] You told me you did, like, months ago.
[712] I didn't put it in yet.
[713] But I opened it up to look at it.
[714] Nice.
[715] Yeah.
[716] Like, yeah, it's disc.
[717] And I wound up playing Space Marine.
[718] I beat that.
[719] I kind of wanted to play some Space.
[720] Like, after our quick look of it, that was so goddamn fun to watch.
[721] That game's fun.
[722] I was thinking, like, shit, I should go and get a PC version.
[723] How long is it?
[724] I've heard it's not super long.
[725] Five, seven hours.
[726] Well, yeah, it probably clocked in about, yeah, seven.
[727] Like, that's reasonable.
[728] That's not short these days.
[729] No, no, no. That's reasonable.
[730] It's an acceptable campaign.
[731] I would be happy to play that game for seven -ish hours.
[732] And then played it through in one sitting.
[733] It was like, you know, just...
[734] It kind of moves.
[735] And that's kind of all you want from that game, I think.
[736] Because there's no upgrade mechanic, really.
[737] You're not dumping points.
[738] You're not getting experience points from stuff.
[739] It seems like within the first hour, here's everything you can do in this game.
[740] Yeah, you get a couple of different weapons a little bit later on.
[741] Surely you're getting some new bolters or something.
[742] Did you get a Warhammer?
[743] I did get a Warhammer.
[744] What?
[745] But I didn't really like using it.
[746] Yeah.
[747] Sounds about right.
[748] Because it limits you once you have the Warhammer.
[749] It's very powerful.
[750] I hope so.
[751] But you can't use two of your other weapons once you're using the Warhammer.
[752] So you can use your handgun and you can use kind of one of your other little machine guns.
[753] But you can't use the kind of cool weapons like the Vengeance Launcher.
[754] I started reading a little bit just in the comments on that Space Marine quick look.
[755] Space Marine.
[756] Space Marine.
[757] Space Marines.
[758] Hey, it's the Space Marines.
[759] God damn it.
[760] Those guys talk about space marines a lot.
[761] Those orcs are very interested.
[762] Yeah, and they're weirdly articulate about it.
[763] For everything else, that just sounds like Cockney gibberish.
[764] Once the Space Marines.
[765] Then it comes to Space Marines.
[766] It's good PR by the Space Marines.
[767] Everybody knows them.
[768] And, Jeff, I think you and I were having this conversation.
[769] At some point, wouldn't they drop the space part?
[770] Yeah, because everything's in space at all times.
[771] It's fucking Warhammer 40 ,000.
[772] They're just the Marines.
[773] Yeah, it's just...
[774] They're Marines.
[775] You don't want to get confused with the old Marines?
[776] Yeah, like are there non -space Marines out there that we have to keep referring to these ones?
[777] I have never heard about those.
[778] There are.
[779] Water Marines!
[780] Again, I guess those would also just be Marines, but.
[781] I think it's a nickname.
[782] I don't think it's their official name.
[783] Well, no, they're Ultramarines.
[784] Ultramarines, yeah.
[785] No, no, no. The Ultramarines are a specific faction.
[786] It's a legion.
[787] Those are the ones you are.
[788] You are specifically playing as the Ultramarines in Space Marines.
[789] I can't remember the pronunciation, but it's like Astartes or something like that.
[790] It's like Adeptus Astartes or something like that is like the official name.
[791] Well, yeah, it's just the Latin for fucking Space Marines.
[792] That's right.
[793] That's right.
[794] They had Space Marines in the Roman Empire.
[795] Well, they had the concepts of space and...
[796] Water.
[797] I mean, everything in Warhammer is fake Space Romans anyway.
[798] Yeah.
[799] Kind of.
[800] Yeah.
[801] Space British plus Space Romans.
[802] It's very confusing times for everybody.
[803] And I do, yeah, I appreciate the Space British.
[804] There's a lot of Space British.
[805] So there are other troops that are the military that are not the Space Marines.
[806] It's dudes.
[807] And they're funny because they're just hanging out dying.
[808] And then like three Space Marines and everybody's always psyched to see them.
[809] Oh, fucking awesome.
[810] Oh, they're here.
[811] Great.
[812] Take over the planet.
[813] That's fantastic.
[814] Do you ever get to fight anything else?
[815] Is it too soon to ask that?
[816] Is that like a big spoiler?
[817] No. I mean, you have to, right?
[818] It's not just a works, right?
[819] No. Okay.
[820] You do.
[821] You fight some chaos guys.
[822] They even, like, they openly hinted at, like, yeah.
[823] The multiplayer is all against chaos.
[824] Right.
[825] But it's not like, they're like, here's the Tyranus chapter.
[826] Here's the Eldar chapter.
[827] Like, you're not fighting everybody from that universe.
[828] Okay.
[829] Space Marines 2.
[830] Okay.
[831] Who?
[832] Space Marines 2.
[833] This time it's Pewter.
[834] Space Marines.
[835] Space Marines.
[836] Again.
[837] So that game moves.
[838] More Space Marines.
[839] That game moves.
[840] I do wish there were a couple of more just animations for those close -up cinematic kills.
[841] Yeah.
[842] Because you do go through those pretty quickly.
[843] Life -charging moves.
[844] Yeah, you have to do those, right?
[845] Yeah, you kind of have to do those, and there's only a couple of animations for each weapon.
[846] They're awesome.
[847] They're awesome animations.
[848] But I could see that getting tiring after a while.
[849] Yeah.
[850] But, man, the weapons just are so satisfying to shoot.
[851] So I was saying, I was reading some of the comments on that quick look.
[852] And some people kind of explaining some of the tech.
[853] Are you saying that we have tech priests posting to our message boards?
[854] Just people talking about, like, the makeup of a shell that comes out of the bolter.
[855] And the bolter is, like, your lowest level.
[856] It's basically your infinite ammo handgun.
[857] And, like, each one of those is basically a fucking, like...
[858] Bomb.
[859] Yeah, like a missile that you'd shoot out of a missile launcher.
[860] Those are just the bullets.
[861] And talk about the casing and this armor piercing.
[862] But then it has, like, a...
[863] delay mechanism so that they don't explode until they're inside the target.
[864] So like a split second after impact is when they actually detonate.
[865] Each one's just like a little bomb.
[866] But the guns sound great, and then when you hit dudes, it just explodes.
[867] It's a lot of fun.
[868] The melee stuff is kind of fun, but that's not the part that actually...
[869] If that game were all melee, I would think it would be completely boring.
[870] You don't feel the impacts like you do when you're just shooting those guns off.
[871] But they struck a good balance then?
[872] I think they did because basically you dump until your gun, and a lot of the guys just charge at you.
[873] So you're just dumping off your gun until they get in close enough, and then you kind of whack them with your whatever melee weapon you have, and then eventually you're going to have to roll out of the way because they're going to swarm you, and you can reload and just start dumping guys again.
[874] But, man, it's super fun when they're charging you, and you're just – And if you're pretty good with headshots, you can try and just watch dudes' heads explode as a horde of guys are running in trying to get you.
[875] And that's fun.
[876] And also just when the guy starts trucking and you turn run on, it's just a really weighty animation.
[877] So just barreling into a guy and doing a shoulder charge and watching him explode then is pretty fun.
[878] It's a lot of exploding.
[879] It does get pretty difficult.
[880] I thought the combat was pretty easy until about...
[881] 80 % of the way through, and then it started getting kind of tough.
[882] It started to die a lot.
[883] Just like crowd management stuff?
[884] Just when they start shooting back.
[885] Oh, yeah.
[886] And it's like, oh, now these guys have guns.
[887] And like the lightning bolts out of their hands, then it started getting really hard.
[888] They started fighting the chaos.
[889] Yeah, then it was like crap.
[890] Because then you're basically fighting other space marines.
[891] It's not just like lesser dudes.
[892] No, it's like now you're fighting yourself, and that was hard.
[893] I didn't try any of the multiplayer stuff, but yeah, the campaign moves.
[894] It's good.
[895] It's kind of heartwarming how public opinion sort of turned positive on that game in the last couple weeks or whatever.
[896] Because, I mean, you know, the business in the press...
[897] Two, three months ago?
[898] What was that?
[899] Back in, like, May?
[900] Yeah, yeah.
[901] It was coming out of that pre -E3 Judges thing that I was at.
[902] That was kind of ugly.
[903] Where everyone was dead tired because it was the last event of the week.
[904] So I think a lot of people weren't in any condition to be looking at games in the first place.
[905] But on top of that, that game, the demo they gave was one of the most boring things I've ever seen.
[906] Because they made it look like Gears of War with no cover.
[907] So it's like, here's Gears of War without the mechanic.
[908] That made Gears of War.
[909] That made Gears of War.
[910] So it's just like, okay.
[911] So I just run forward and fucking shoot these guys.
[912] Like it just looked like the dumbest game in the world.
[913] I think it is kind of dumb.
[914] But I think that's okay.
[915] But it didn't look – I don't know.
[916] Maybe it was just the area they were showing or they were stopping to show weapons and stopping to show stuff too often or something like that.
[917] But it was just a really terrible demo that didn't – Give you a good sense of the actual pace of that game.
[918] Great games can absolutely get shit demos.
[919] Especially if you're still in, not even saying this is great, but I'm saying that happens.
[920] But yeah, if you want to know why everyone was super down on Space Marine coming out of that stuff, it's because that demo looked like garbage.
[921] But also the game I played on the PC looks really good too.
[922] Yeah, I played on the PC also.
[923] It looks really nice.
[924] It looks really nice.
[925] My title screen, I just watched that for a pretty long time.
[926] Just a dude shooting dudes.
[927] That dude shooting those dudes over and over again.
[928] Endlessly, that's his hell on Earth.
[929] And there's some story in it.
[930] I don't think the story is spectacular, but there is something there.
[931] There's something to follow.
[932] I feel like you're just becoming, I think with your pre -40K fiction reading that you've been doing, I feel like all this is just confusing you.
[933] There's nothing in there to get confused about.
[934] It's like – They're space marines.
[935] They're space marines.
[936] They're on this world.
[937] Codex.
[938] They need – you're on this world.
[939] You're trying to protect this asset from the bad guys.
[940] Yeah.
[941] And there's – that's it.
[942] Do it.
[943] I mean there's stuff in there that I feel like if you're way into the fiction is really rewarding.
[944] Like, oh, that's a titan.
[945] Like, that's awesome.
[946] You get to see an actual titan and like walk around on it.
[947] What is it?
[948] Because even in the books that I'm reading, like titans are just like basically these walking – world destroyers like you drop like one or two titans onto a world and it's like game over for the bad guys they're just these ridiculous I don't know epic units I guess you would call them if it were like an RTS it would be the thing you build last at the end of the tech tree so to kind of see it in the game after reading all these descriptions about how everybody's always in awe when they see one and they're crazy.
[949] It's kind of cool.
[950] How big is it?
[951] The size of an aircraft carrier?
[952] What are we talking?
[953] I think they're always on two legs.
[954] Is it a Gundam?
[955] They're big enough that it takes lots of people to operate it.
[956] They're inside it, walking around.
[957] They're big.
[958] They're gigantic.
[959] But most of this stuff is based off of books and tabletop stuff, so who knows what the canon is.
[960] I'm sure there's some tabletop book that's just like – Tech specs.
[961] Yeah, but the life -size one.
[962] So that's cool, and I'm sure they mention stuff like that codex and stuff like that that is like – for people who are in on the fiction, that's like – Interesting to see.
[963] Some fan service.
[964] But I just like the action.
[965] I really did.
[966] Played it with a controller, and I think that's the way to play that game.
[967] Yeah.
[968] The time I spent playing it with a mouse, it just didn't feel right.
[969] Yeah.
[970] I don't know.
[971] Is the demo available on PC?
[972] Not sure.
[973] Because I got it by pre -ordering it early.
[974] They should put it out if it's not for everybody.
[975] I don't know.
[976] Is there a demo on the 360?
[977] Yeah.
[978] Okay.
[979] Yeah, check it out.
[980] I bet the demo will get you a good feel for it.
[981] I wouldn't dismiss it just because it's 40K.
[982] There's some good action stuff in it.
[983] And there's no snap to cover, but you will have to go behind a wall.
[984] Right, yeah.
[985] You walk behind stuff.
[986] Yeah, you don't want to get shot.
[987] You have to run away every once in a while to let your armor recharge.
[988] You never run away.
[989] Space Marine never runs away.
[990] Space Marine never runs away.
[991] You walk backwards.
[992] So what, Deus Ex next?
[993] Man, I don't know.
[994] I wish there was just another game that could just shoot dudes for a while.
[995] Like you were saying, you really want to see the end of Gears.
[996] If I could have popped Gears in, that's what I would have done.
[997] Wait, you did not get your fill of that?
[998] From Space Marine?
[999] No. It is not the same experience.
[1000] I know they're not the same game.
[1001] But I'm looking to Gears.
[1002] I'm really excited to finish Gears of War.
[1003] I want to close that book.
[1004] You almost sound like you want it out of your life.
[1005] Kind of.
[1006] Well, you know, it's like one of those things.
[1007] They set up all this weird stuff in 2 that was like, what is going on with Gears of War?
[1008] With the Lambent and the dudes that are glowing and exploding because they're in the oil too much, and the planet is imploding.
[1009] There's all crazy stuff going on.
[1010] So I just want to see where it ends, or if it ends, or if they put Marcus in an escape pod and shoot him across the galaxy or whatever.
[1011] He ends up on the same planet as Matt.
[1012] That's the game.
[1013] High five.
[1014] Tag team wrestlers in some crazy universe wrestling league.
[1015] Vince McMahon, Space McMahon.
[1016] Space McMahon!
[1017] I'll play that game.
[1018] If I could have popped that shame in.
[1019] You wish you had something that you just shoot and have dumb stuff happen.
[1020] I don't want to have to make choices.
[1021] I really have made so many choices in games.
[1022] And Deus Ex, you have to make choices.
[1023] Catherine, I'm sure you have to make plenty of choices, right?
[1024] No, Catherine is all choices.
[1025] I was going to say, and just coming off of...
[1026] I have to make the choice to play Castlevania.
[1027] Coming off of Witcher and Witcher 2, you're probably choiced up.
[1028] I'm a little choiced.
[1029] I'm inventoried up, too.
[1030] I'm pretty choice.
[1031] I only want inventory.
[1032] I don't want to put anything in it.
[1033] So no Dead Island for you then?
[1034] I was thinking about buying it on PC.
[1035] Is that good to go now?
[1036] The PC version seems to be pretty much fun.
[1037] I don't know, dude.
[1038] It's still a black screen when I hit play on that.
[1039] They put out another patch.
[1040] How long has it been since you tried it?
[1041] I tried it last night.
[1042] I was thinking about getting Dead Island.
[1043] At this point, it probably is the dual monitor thing.
[1044] Every time I say something about it, people say, Jude, just unplug your monitor.
[1045] No. I don't want to play it that bad.
[1046] Hard reset, I think, is what I'm going to do next.
[1047] If you want to shoot stuff, yeah.
[1048] I played a little bit of hard reset.
[1049] It was all the same stuff that we had played in the quick look, but that game still is awesome.
[1050] Yeah, I bought that.
[1051] You know, Steam does those things now where it's not even like a pre -order bonus.
[1052] It's like, hey, get like 20 % off if you buy it now.
[1053] I'm like, well, I'm going to probably buy it when it comes out.
[1054] It was only like $30.
[1055] Yes, you got me. Here's $27.
[1056] Here's $27.
[1057] And that game seems like it's just straight up about like run down this path and shoot shit.
[1058] Yeah.
[1059] Robots are going to fly out at you and then you're going to blast all these robots.
[1060] And enjoy the visuals while you do it.
[1061] Yeah, everything's going to look crazy and blow up real good.
[1062] So that's probably the next thing.
[1063] Lots of good explosions.
[1064] Yeah, that's a good fit.
[1065] That's a good fit.
[1066] I haven't seen much of that game.
[1067] It looks cool.
[1068] You should check it out.
[1069] Hearing you people talk about it.
[1070] It is some old school first person shooter action.
[1071] It's got a little bit of Blade Runner -y.
[1072] A lot of neon on wet pavement at night.
[1073] That sounds exciting.
[1074] It seems like...
[1075] I don't know.
[1076] In -game holographic UI.
[1077] Like if late 90s first person shooter design just hopped a decade.
[1078] Like, just, but in a good way.
[1079] Like, very, like, limited in scope.
[1080] Like, you're always in kind of a tight corridor running down some, you know, towards something.
[1081] Do you like Painkiller?
[1082] Yeah.
[1083] Yeah.
[1084] Would you like Painkiller if it has robots?
[1085] Yes.
[1086] Okay.
[1087] Sure.
[1088] Do you like guns that...
[1089] Because one of the things I didn't like about Painkiller was the setting and all that.
[1090] Do you like guns...
[1091] Robots are better than...
[1092] Do you like guns that you never have to reload?
[1093] Yeah, sure.
[1094] Let's get back to that, man. Do you like guns that animate when you change the modes on them?
[1095] That's what I mean.
[1096] You like having one gun that transforms into all of your guns.
[1097] Because you only have two guns, but you buy upgrades for them to turn your two guns into three guns each so that you have six guns.
[1098] Kind of vanquishy with your transforming guns.
[1099] Yeah, a little bit.
[1100] But you have basically your regular ammo gun and your energy weapon gun.
[1101] Do you like ridiculous menus?
[1102] Oh, my God.
[1103] Ridiculous menu animations that take way too long.
[1104] Only at the beginning, though, where there's literally...
[1105] It's like I never want to change my screen resolution ever again because it took me, like, a minute and a half just to get to that menu.
[1106] There's a robotic arm and there are just these, like, data slates in the floor and the wall that the robotic arm has to pick out of the wall.
[1107] Pull out and then put down.
[1108] And that's, like, one minute.
[1109] That's, like, going from, like, main to, like, options.
[1110] All right, from options there's video, audio, game.
[1111] Oh, man. I'm like, okay, I want to go to video.
[1112] All right, then I have to go and grab the other slate and put it in.
[1113] It's, like, very detailed, smooth animation with lots of little kind of character to it.
[1114] That kind of sounds okay.
[1115] The game world UI is awesome, though.
[1116] It's all, like, holographic projected stuff.
[1117] And you, like, walk up to it and suddenly you're controlling a mouse with your mouse.
[1118] Anyways, yeah.
[1119] Good contextual stuff with that.
[1120] It looks good.
[1121] But I was just having crazy performance issues.
[1122] Like I was just having it hit.
[1123] Like I played that game on PC before and it had been fine.
[1124] It was hitching up a lot.
[1125] But then I was also trying to play a build of Fez and I was getting the same thing there.
[1126] And that game is – It shouldn't be that.
[1127] Yeah, that game should not do that to your PC or to my PC at least.
[1128] It's good enough.
[1129] I've also got that.
[1130] I've downloaded it.
[1131] But maybe we'll try and quick look at it or something because I haven't seen any of it.
[1132] Acron?
[1133] Acron.
[1134] Acron.
[1135] Yeah.
[1136] I have a copy of that, too.
[1137] I have not played it.
[1138] Like The Singer?
[1139] Yeah.
[1140] It's like a time -travelly RTS.
[1141] What?
[1142] I don't know.
[1143] I don't know.
[1144] People keep saying that.
[1145] What does that mean?
[1146] I don't know.
[1147] I've watched movies of it, and I haven't really understood.
[1148] Like your units?
[1149] I think you're fighting.
[1150] You can flip your units back in time if you fuck up.
[1151] You're fighting on the fourth dimension.
[1152] Are you rewinding the whole battle?
[1153] I don't think you are.
[1154] Or just the...
[1155] The units?
[1156] You know what?
[1157] I'm going to stop talking about it because all I did was watch a bit of a trailer and went like, all right, I see RTS units, and then they moved somewhere else because time.
[1158] Yeah.
[1159] And then I stopped watching it.
[1160] We'll take a look at it.
[1161] You should quick look at it because that sounds super interesting.
[1162] Yeah.
[1163] Could change the game, man. We need a game changer.
[1164] For the RTS genre?
[1165] Just any kind of game changer.
[1166] Change the game.
[1167] We need an intern to get up and put a new disc in the system is what he's saying.
[1168] Please change the game.
[1169] If you just put in anything else.
[1170] Anything else.
[1171] So that's what I did.
[1172] Witcher and Space.
[1173] Well, congratulations on finishing The Witcher 2.
[1174] Thank you very much.
[1175] You closed this chapter of your life.
[1176] I don't know when I would play it again, but it definitely sets you up to play it tomorrow.
[1177] I am excited to – I'm also glad that you finished Space Marine.
[1178] I'm kind of bummed that I did, but I'm glad I did.
[1179] Because I really just enjoyed playing it.
[1180] It looked like fun.
[1181] And that's not a game I need to play again.
[1182] No, it definitely doesn't sound like it.
[1183] And I am excited to hear your future thoughts on Hard Reset, because I think that's a good fit.
[1184] Yeah, I got detox.
[1185] It doesn't sound like it's super long, either, from what reports I've heard.
[1186] Not a lot of choices.
[1187] No. Well, there is your upgrade path.
[1188] Yeah, that's fine.
[1189] And there's also crazy hidden areas in that game.
[1190] That's fine.
[1191] I do want to play Deus Exit.
[1192] That game sounds awesome.
[1193] I actually want to play Driver as well.
[1194] It sounds pretty cool.
[1195] I also want to play Resistance as well.
[1196] There's a lot of games and it's not slowing down that much.
[1197] Gears out next week.
[1198] In fact, it's speeding up.
[1199] I bought that copy.
[1200] It's coming on Tuesday on Amazon.
[1201] What did you get?
[1202] The special fancy?
[1203] What are the fancy Gears editions this year?
[1204] There's a Steelbook edition and an Epic edition.
[1205] What's the one that's $600?
[1206] That's the console.
[1207] That's an Xbox.
[1208] What's that edition called?
[1209] That's not even just the console.
[1210] That's the console plus a bunch of bundled bullshit.
[1211] And the figurine.
[1212] It's actually really $600.
[1213] It's actually really $600.
[1214] Because it's like, here's the Gears of War throat mic.
[1215] But we can never figure out what the headset is.
[1216] Well, that headset's $200.
[1217] So, yeah, if you want a dumbass headset.
[1218] You're trying to figure out what the – That's just a retailer bundle.
[1219] That's not a real – Oh, okay.
[1220] That's not an actual – A GameStop -specific bundled -in thing?
[1221] I think so, yeah.
[1222] But there's still a Gears console, right?
[1223] Yes, there's a Gears console that comes with the game.
[1224] So the bundle was that, and then on top of that, a headset and a bunch of other crap.
[1225] But the console that Microsoft is selling is just the game and a fancy painted console.
[1226] And 250 gigs, right?
[1227] A 320.
[1228] Oh, that's one that already exists.
[1229] That's the, yeah.
[1230] Well, they've got to have something because Star Wars got pushed back, so they can't put that.
[1231] Or I assume they're not putting out that Star Wars.
[1232] They did push back the console system.
[1233] But yeah, all those console bundles, the Star Wars one, the Gears one, I believe the Modern Warfare one, are all going to be 320s.
[1234] So the pack and big thing is a figurine?
[1235] Yeah, the Epic Edition comes with a Marcus Fenix figure and removable do -rag.
[1236] No. You don't want to see what's under there.
[1237] I saw it.
[1238] Really?
[1239] I guess we can't talk about it.
[1240] Yeah, well.
[1241] So I'm done talking about the games I'm going to play.
[1242] I can't.
[1243] Yeah.
[1244] I mean, so I will say that that Epic Edition is probably like one of the best like collector's editions kind of thing.
[1245] Like there's some just super well -made shit in there.
[1246] Like what?
[1247] Like the styrofoam.
[1248] Can you talk about what's in it?
[1249] The styrofoam that they use to pack the figures has like the cog in it and stuff.
[1250] Like they went to lengths to make even the styrofoam look good.
[1251] Which is kind of a weird thing.
[1252] But, like, is there anything you'd actually use?
[1253] So, like, well -packaged?
[1254] Yes.
[1255] Yes, extremely well -packaged.
[1256] No, I mean, I'm not a big figure collector and stuff like that.
[1257] But there's no, like, Mark's notebook or, like, the Halo stuff or it's, like, here's a diary.
[1258] No, nothing.
[1259] Okay.
[1260] I think it's more trinkets and stuff, right?
[1261] There's, like, a Mark's statue.
[1262] But, like, the box that actually the game is – I'll show it to you.
[1263] That Space Marine thing was pretty cool, too.
[1264] That weird – was that the collector edition?
[1265] Oh, yeah, yeah.
[1266] It was just a giant book with a – It's a big -ass box.
[1267] But I can't fit that stuff on my shelves anymore.
[1268] Yeah, yeah.
[1269] Totally.
[1270] I'm done with it.
[1271] Discs.
[1272] Come on.
[1273] But I do like a steel case.
[1274] I like those.
[1275] Yeah, so there's three versions, a regular version, some kind of steel book edition, and then this epic one.
[1276] I think the steel book probably comes with the in -game stuff, if I had to guess.
[1277] Oh, yeah.
[1278] That also comes in the epic one.
[1279] That's how I would break it up anyway.
[1280] Who knows?
[1281] I just ordered the...
[1282] Game edition.
[1283] You just want Gears of War.
[1284] I think Amazon may have given me some Dom skin or something.
[1285] I don't know.
[1286] It's like some pre -order thing.
[1287] I like my Dom skinless.
[1288] I'm not going to grill you on any Gears stuff, but let's talk about it.
[1289] Yeah, we'll talk about it on Thursday.
[1290] Yeah, Thursday is when the embargo's up for review stuff.
[1291] Yeah, I have a lot of quick look, and I've got to write that review.
[1292] Yeah.
[1293] But yeah, Gears of War 3, man. Yep.
[1294] That is a video game.
[1295] Yeah.
[1296] It's going to come out soon.
[1297] And then I also played a whole bunch of Forza 4, but yeah.
[1298] Also can't say anything about that.
[1299] Until way longer.
[1300] See, I can't wait for that to wrap up that Forza story.
[1301] I can't wait to see what they do.
[1302] Where this is all headed.
[1303] The fourth and final Forza.
[1304] Finish the fight, Forza 4.
[1305] What does that speed line want?
[1306] Ferraris to the end.
[1307] You find out why it's been changing colors for all these games.
[1308] They're going to launch that Ferrari into space across the universe.
[1309] Anytime you need it, just wake it up.
[1310] That's where they're going to tie that warthog into the Forza.
[1311] Didn't know this, but it's going to cross the stream.
[1312] Fell onto Forza World.
[1313] Master Chief's just playing.
[1314] Yes, Forza World.
[1315] Forza does not take place on Earth, it turns out.
[1316] No, that's why there are no drivers in those cars.
[1317] Yeah, it takes place on a world of cars.
[1318] No, there are totally drivers in those cars.
[1319] There are?
[1320] Yeah, cockpit view.
[1321] You see hands.
[1322] You do?
[1323] Yeah.
[1324] There's just hands.
[1325] Do you ever see their head?
[1326] The windows are all tinted, right?
[1327] No, you can tint the windows if you want.
[1328] I don't know.
[1329] No, I think you actually do see people in those cars.
[1330] Helmets.
[1331] Just helmeted random model.
[1332] It's not any kind of.
[1333] It's not your dude.
[1334] You don't pick your dude?
[1335] Nah.
[1336] I guess I shouldn't say one way or the other.
[1337] I mean the Forza universe.
[1338] Yes, the Forza universe.
[1339] The Forzaverse.
[1340] You do not pick a driver.
[1341] Is that this year?
[1342] Yeah, that's October.
[1343] Man. You're going to get me to buy another racing wheel?
[1344] You guys ready to have that racing wheel discussion again?
[1345] They're coming out with new racing wheels specifically for this thing that I think might actually work across all platforms.
[1346] I don't believe it.
[1347] Microsoft is making?
[1348] Microsoft produced ones?
[1349] That sounds crazy.
[1350] Yeah, I think it might just be a generic USB device or something like that.
[1351] I think it might be.
[1352] Well, whatever.
[1353] Maybe they'd sell more of them.
[1354] I don't know for sure.
[1355] I want to say they partnered with someone that makes wheels.
[1356] the cross -platform way, so it might actually happen this time.
[1357] One wheel to drive them all.
[1358] There you go.
[1359] Sold.
[1360] Don't buy a racing wheel.
[1361] I would buy that racing wheel.
[1362] Don't buy a racing wheel.
[1363] I would totally just buy it.
[1364] Why?
[1365] Because we need to test it out.
[1366] Buy that racing wheel.
[1367] You know what, Vinny?
[1368] What?
[1369] Changing my mind.
[1370] Buy that racing wheel.
[1371] I wonder if I buy the Forza wheel, can I use that with the Warthog in AL4s?
[1372] I wonder if I buy that Forza wheel, if it will make me happy.
[1373] It's worked with everything else I bought.
[1374] Spending money on yourself is the only way to achieve happiness.
[1375] Come on.
[1376] Look at these 15 touch pads I brought.
[1377] Now I'm happy.
[1378] Finally.
[1379] For the next 20 minutes.
[1380] Then I've got to go.
[1381] Then I've got to go buy some Burger King.
[1382] That'll make me happy.
[1383] Get this bucket of chicken.
[1384] Everything will be okay.
[1385] Oh, God.
[1386] Don't talk about it.
[1387] I was happy for like five minutes.
[1388] Now I was just really depressed.
[1389] But now I can only be happier again after this moment.
[1390] That's right.
[1391] You're happy because you didn't eat any of that KFC.
[1392] That was in the office today?
[1393] Hell, yeah, I am.
[1394] Once a year is enough.
[1395] Actually, three times a year is enough.
[1396] The piece that I had will count as my once every probably two years or something, actually.
[1397] You're not a big KFC gobbler?
[1398] No, when I do go, I don't actually get, like, pieces of chicken.
[1399] I'll get, like, chicken sandwiches or something like that.
[1400] And it's actually also an A &W, so I'm just as likely to get some hot dogs, player.
[1401] Some fried cheese curds.
[1402] Hell yeah.
[1403] Compton.
[1404] I wish the Orcs spoke like that.
[1405] Space Marine player, don't try to take us down.
[1406] So, yeah, that's most.
[1407] That's what you played?
[1408] Yeah, basically.
[1409] And then also more Trackmania 2, which is a really good game to play for seven minutes at a time.
[1410] If you're just like, I just want to play something right now.
[1411] And you play it wrong and go, all right, I'm satiated.
[1412] I can go move on with my life for a bit now.
[1413] It should have subsided.
[1414] Yes, and then two hours later, I can play a little more Trackmania.
[1415] That's weird.
[1416] That's exactly how I approach StarCraft.
[1417] Play like one match at a time.
[1418] I'm like, all right, I'm good.
[1419] 30 minutes to two hours later, I'm right back there again.
[1420] Go for another Starcraft.
[1421] It's really good for those kind of weekends where it's just like, I'm just sitting here waiting to die.
[1422] All right, I'll play some Trackmania soon.
[1423] Counting the minutes.
[1424] Counting the minutes, basically.
[1425] I could go to bed early and then Monday would become faster.
[1426] I could just go to work because I have to do that.
[1427] That's Trackmania.
[1428] Is that game out?
[1429] No. Supposedly?
[1430] Yeah, they were saying the 14th, I guess.
[1431] But that's real soon, and they haven't updated their blog since the beta.
[1432] There's been an update to the beta, at least.
[1433] So work is progressing.
[1434] But, yeah, it's – You've received content updates?
[1435] Yes.
[1436] No. As a member of the beta?
[1437] No, it's not even a content update because there's really – there's no content in this beta.
[1438] I think.
[1439] I don't know if it's shipped with any tracks.
[1440] But I mean as far as like – These are all just made by players.
[1441] But I mean you downloaded a thing that – I downloaded a thing in beta 4.
[1442] Yeah.
[1443] I don't know.
[1444] I guess when I say content, I mean like just code, like anything.
[1445] Sure.
[1446] Yeah.
[1447] I downloaded 300 megs of something.
[1448] Okay.
[1449] That changed what happens when a race ends.
[1450] old GIFs.
[1451] Just plays Kokomo over and over.
[1452] Yeah, pretty much.
[1453] Cindy Crawford GIFs.
[1454] But yeah, that game is still a whole lot of fun.
[1455] And that's still Canyon?
[1456] Yeah, that's Canyon.
[1457] Shoot Mania is after this.
[1458] I don't believe that exists.
[1459] I don't believe Shoot Mania or what's the Quest Mania?
[1460] Quest Mania.
[1461] I don't believe either of those exists in any form.
[1462] Shoot Mania Storm.
[1463] I believe Shoot Mania and Quest Mania are both...
[1464] bullet points at best right now.
[1465] I just can't wait until the universe has merged and I can drive a car through somebody's shape.
[1466] I know.
[1467] I swear that they had European press come out and write.
[1468] It would be cool to – Granted, it's European press, but sure.
[1469] It would be cool to even just be doing a first -person shooter while you see crazy cars driving around in some distant thing.
[1470] And I feel like it's more compelling in this setting than like there's the dust and EVE Online connection stuff.
[1471] Yeah.
[1472] But this is such a – Like, calling Trackmania a universe in and of itself is an absurd thing to say.
[1473] It's like, this is barely a level.
[1474] Mania planet, man. It's all one thing.
[1475] Like, what if you get in your car and drive to the Trackmania part?
[1476] What if you get in your car and drive?
[1477] And then you're like, I'm done with this driving.
[1478] I'm going to get out of my car.
[1479] I'm going to drive to where the people are shooting.
[1480] Well, that would be great.
[1481] Jump out of my whip and just start shooting dudes.
[1482] But you've got to drive to, like, the arena.
[1483] I read some of the stuff and it's all, like, translated from, you know.
[1484] French, whatever it is.
[1485] There were a lot of previews that went up in non -English languages that people were translating and stuff like that.
[1486] So I was reading a lot of machine -translated stuff about what Shootmania is.
[1487] So it's really hard to even tell what it is.
[1488] But I think there might only be one weapon.
[1489] I don't even know.
[1490] I can't even tell what the hell is going on in that thing.
[1491] And it's your car.
[1492] That sounds reasonable.
[1493] Yeah, and you shoot cars at people.
[1494] Like cars as the ammo.
[1495] Yeah.
[1496] It's a gun that shoots cars.
[1497] Well, you actually shoot track mania tracks that people are driving on at the time.
[1498] That's how crazy it is.
[1499] You're gigantic.
[1500] And so it's really just you're shooting tracks and then the cars are driving on the tracks.
[1501] The cars finish a lap by the time they hit the target is how much damage it does.
[1502] Maybe you're shooting pieces of it.
[1503] But it's also like crowdsourced dice rolls because it's also quest mania at the same time.
[1504] Right.
[1505] So you're getting your XP.
[1506] You're shooting pieces of the track that people have to drive on while...
[1507] Well, people are already driving on it, so you're just cutting out the section, and if they happen to be driving on that section while you're shooting that track, then you get that damage bonus.
[1508] All right, I played that game.
[1509] Yeah.
[1510] All I know is that I tried to use the track editor in the previous Trackmania and couldn't make sense of it, and tried to use this one in Trackmania 2 and still can't.
[1511] I was going to say...
[1512] I can make a flat track that turns and twists and stuff like that, but...
[1513] Everything we're talking about is an appropriate level of crazy for Trackmania, but it is inappropriate in functionality based on what I've seen of Trackmania over the years.
[1514] That game is awesome, but that game also barely functions.
[1515] It functions just fine.
[1516] Come on.
[1517] Come on.
[1518] Like, it's...
[1519] It works in spite of, like, you can have 200 people on one server.
[1520] There are things about it that are extraordinary, absolutely.
[1521] But it's also like, you're like, wow, like the sacrifices that had to have been made in focusing just on, let's see how many fucking cars we can get on this track at once.
[1522] So when they promise you a world, a universe of track mania, you just, what are you talking about?
[1523] That's just your response is, you hardly got a game out the door.
[1524] Kind of.
[1525] Kind of.
[1526] I guess just for as long and as much as Trackmania 2 has been talked about and we are at barely a beta.
[1527] It's an honest beta.
[1528] Yeah, totally.
[1529] The multiplayer is in there.
[1530] It's solid.
[1531] You connect servers and it works.
[1532] And to your point, that's probably pretty much what people want.
[1533] But also you've said that they pretty much have made Trackmania.
[1534] Again.
[1535] Again.
[1536] Yeah.
[1537] I mean all new handling model.
[1538] Right.
[1539] Which is a – Actually, it is a really huge change on that.
[1540] But yeah, in terms of just like what the game is and all that stuff, yeah, it's pretty much the same.
[1541] I'm not even – I have no issue.
[1542] I take no truck against like the no clipping stuff.
[1543] Like that is a design choice.
[1544] I get it.
[1545] That's fine.
[1546] And that's – It's fundamental to what that game is.
[1547] Right.
[1548] And yeah, it works to the ends of that game.
[1549] But yeah.
[1550] Mania.
[1551] Fucking Quest Mania.
[1552] Shoot Mania.
[1553] Be surprised if there were any guns in Shoot Mania.
[1554] It's just Faceball.
[1555] I'm in.
[1556] Faceball.
[1557] We never played any Faceball during the SNES.
[1558] No, we totally did.
[1559] Yeah, we did.
[1560] Did you?
[1561] Yeah.
[1562] Yeah.
[1563] Me and Vinny did.
[1564] Okay.
[1565] How was that?
[1566] Yeah.
[1567] What do you think the definitive version of Faceball is?
[1568] Game Boy.
[1569] Yeah.
[1570] I don't know.
[1571] Didn't that use the four -player adapter?
[1572] Am I crazy?
[1573] That did.
[1574] It totally did.
[1575] I'm trying to think of all of the platforms that Faceball appeared on.
[1576] It seemed like it was kind of a lot there for a while.
[1577] Yeah, it was kind of everything.
[1578] Spectrum Holobyte joined on the SNES, wasn't it?
[1579] Yeah.
[1580] Well, was that Faceball or Faceball 2000?
[1581] There's no difference.
[1582] It's just the one tricking me by making me think there was a previous edition of Faceball by calling it Faceball 2000.
[1583] Those sons of bitches.
[1584] I hope you're burning hell.
[1585] No, you don't.
[1586] No, I don't.
[1587] They already are.
[1588] It's cool.
[1589] Hey, Brad.
[1590] They don't exist.
[1591] Yeah.
[1592] That's what I'm saying.
[1593] Game developer hell.
[1594] Falcon 5 .0 coming soon.
[1595] What's up, sleepy chicken Brad?
[1596] Dude.
[1597] The combination of fried chicken and track mania discussion has conspired to shut down my brain.
[1598] Brad, you got to get a little pro StarCraft II action on during the Live Live show on Friday.
[1599] It was a good time.
[1600] Yeah.
[1601] And then you guys got your asses whipped in your dog pile.
[1602] You were the first one knocked out.
[1603] Yeah.
[1604] Our own Damoran bunker rushed me. And I didn't catch the bunker until a hair's breadth of a second too late.
[1605] Were you playing under your own account?
[1606] Yeah.
[1607] So he knew to go get your account name?
[1608] Yeah.
[1609] Okay.
[1610] Yeah.
[1611] Well, but also it's just the way we spawned.
[1612] I spawned right next to him.
[1613] Oh.
[1614] So I was the first person he saw.
[1615] Kill your neighbor?
[1616] I think he just went for the first person he could get to.
[1617] I almost repelled him.
[1618] I'm not blowing my horn here because, I mean, it's not that hard to do.
[1619] It's just a matter of timing.
[1620] Anything that would have changed you?
[1621] All I had to do was kill the SCV that was making his bunker before he finished it, and he couldn't put Marines in it, and I had Zealots out, and that would have been it.
[1622] You didn't, and you lost.
[1623] He barely danced that SCV out of there.
[1624] I think he brought another one over and finished the bunker off.
[1625] At that point, there was nothing I could do.
[1626] Speaking of which, Jeff, I'm now recalling you also played a little Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
[1627] I did.
[1628] During that big live live show.
[1629] Anything about that experience?
[1630] Well, I wasn't playing it so much as we were just kind of talking about characters and showing stuff off.
[1631] Sure, Seth, I know, was kind of showing off some specific moves and whatnot.
[1632] So I didn't necessarily get a match in or anything like that.
[1633] Okay.
[1634] Yeah, it's like the bullet points on the press release say.
[1635] They're adding characters and spectator mode and all that stuff, and it's still kind of a crazy game.
[1636] We'll see if this game kind of gets back in the good graces of the fighting game community because it needs some shuffling.
[1637] Give it some longevity.
[1638] So, yeah.
[1639] It's going to take more than just new characters.
[1640] Like, you know, they are doing some rebalancing and adding moves to characters and stuff like that.
[1641] So kind of see if that makes it go.
[1642] You kind of have to do that if you're going to add a bunch of new characters.
[1643] Yeah, a lot of people are still bitching that X -Factor's in it at all or the way X -Factor works, even though they are changing up some of the ways that – or changing up the way that X -Factor works in the game.
[1644] So, yeah.
[1645] All right.
[1646] Not much to report there other than it's got some dudes in it.
[1647] Cool.
[1648] Wait, dudes?
[1649] Yeah.
[1650] Fight mania?
[1651] I'm in.
[1652] Yeah.
[1653] Yes.
[1654] You'll have one move, though.
[1655] Yeah, one move and no clipping.
[1656] And you fight on the roofs of the cars as you're driving.
[1657] Great.
[1658] The cars are the fighters.
[1659] Oh, man. It's just like Fighters Megamix.
[1660] I know.
[1661] It's been done.
[1662] It's a proven formula.
[1663] Brad and Jeff, you guys also got to play a little Johan Sebastian Joust.
[1664] Man, that game is awesome.
[1665] During the live show.
[1666] Yeah, I mean, it's been places where it's been played, but maybe a little too self -conscious to play it.
[1667] Then you start drinking.
[1668] I was not drinking, for the record.
[1669] Sucks for you.
[1670] But on a live stream in front of 9 ,000 people.
[1671] Actually, I played the night before the show.
[1672] I didn't even play on it.
[1673] Oh, were you not?
[1674] No. By the time I got back there, there was already all controllers were taken.
[1675] I was like, I could go push one of these interns down, take the controller.
[1676] But I was like, eh, forget it.
[1677] Then you win.
[1678] So how many people were playing?
[1679] Five.
[1680] On the show?
[1681] Okay.
[1682] In general, it was five.
[1683] Do you know how many can play at the same time?
[1684] Six is the max.
[1685] I don't think it can go up to eight because the Bluetooth limit is seven devices.
[1686] Okay.
[1687] I think my favorite part of that entire game is the sound it makes when you hit the button.
[1688] Boom.
[1689] Yeah.
[1690] Well, I like both that noise and also when you get knocked out, they add a crash noise.
[1691] Oh, that's a great noise.
[1692] I just like the boom.
[1693] I mean, that's all that game has.
[1694] All that game has is sound design.
[1695] So it's good that the minimal parts that it has do sound good.
[1696] I don't like the music so much.
[1697] I like that aspect of it.
[1698] I feel like that's something that they should give some options on.
[1699] Take some other songs.
[1700] Well, I can understand based on the name of the game.
[1701] It's in the spirit of the game that it is what it is.
[1702] Absolutely.
[1703] Give me like a heartbeat that speeds up and slows down.
[1704] Just use your own song and it'll just slow down.
[1705] I bet that's something that it will actually do.
[1706] Eventually, sure.
[1707] That game is still so being developed in tune.
[1708] Patrick contacted the guys who were working on it, and they gave us a build, and they said, yeah, this is kind of the most recent build we have, and it's a little oversensitive.
[1709] prefaced with like, yeah, like with calibration on this stuff.
[1710] Cause you know, they're having to, they started off using Wii remotes for this, for this project.
[1711] And then they're like, well, we get better sensitivity out of the, you know, the, the fidelity of movements better on a move controller.
[1712] So, you know, went to that and I guess all the colors.
[1713] Yeah.
[1714] The colored ball.
[1715] Yeah.
[1716] Having little colored balls and, and being able to use that.
[1717] Cause that's what lets you do.
[1718] That's what lets you do team play.
[1719] Right.
[1720] So, um, I guess you'd probably find a way.
[1721] Anyway, yeah, I think they're still so in development that just figuring out kind of basic calibration stuff.
[1722] It's a fun little party game.
[1723] It is fun.
[1724] They booted it up after the show in the back of the bar.
[1725] There had to be at least, I'd say, what, 50, 60 people back there.
[1726] The entire throng of people just formed around the game once it started being played.
[1727] You're talking about accessibility to...
[1728] It's hard to even call it a video game, really.
[1729] It was just like, do you want to try it?
[1730] Here, go.
[1731] What do you do?
[1732] Just don't move it quickly.
[1733] Great.
[1734] When the music's slow, don't move quickly.
[1735] Move as fast.
[1736] You can move more quickly.
[1737] But still, be careful.
[1738] Everybody was loving jumping in there and giving it a shot.
[1739] Like boys and girls.
[1740] Anyone?
[1741] Nope.
[1742] Patrick got his shoes off again.
[1743] Some food.
[1744] Once the food started getting thrown, it just escalated into.
[1745] That's why the floor is still sticky.
[1746] Yeah.
[1747] And then somebody took a dump.
[1748] Something happened that we shut down the bar.
[1749] Somebody took a dump back there.
[1750] Yeah.
[1751] Sounds about right.
[1752] There was a point something happened.
[1753] And we're like, all right, party's over.
[1754] Yep.
[1755] Time to go.
[1756] Let's shut it down.
[1757] But yeah, anyway, the Joust happened, and everybody really liked it.
[1758] It does get rowdy really quickly, though.
[1759] Thanks to those guys for sending us some code.
[1760] First time I've wanted to buy Move controllers.
[1761] Sony would be fucking foolish to not be courting those guys to get that onto their system somehow.
[1762] I don't know.
[1763] That thing just seems like lawsuit waiting to happen, but for anyone who does it commercially.
[1764] Yeah, if you have that hit.
[1765] Yeah.
[1766] They would have to do it.
[1767] They would have the warning that comes up on screen.
[1768] Yeah.
[1769] Or they would have to do it where it integrates with the PS3 and the whole hitting part is gone.
[1770] And it's like, now do these activities.
[1771] Like, touch your head, but move really slowly.
[1772] Oh, man. And like, you know.
[1773] No, fuck that.
[1774] That'd be terrible.
[1775] Touch your toes, but move really slowly.
[1776] Like, that's what I could see them doing and getting rid of the whole.
[1777] As soon as you start.
[1778] Oh, thanks.
[1779] As soon as you start levying platform restrictions on that game is when you ruin that game.
[1780] Yeah, and also locking it to somewhere near a television in a lot of ways.
[1781] Yeah, that too.
[1782] Because they have a video up on their site of them playing it at the beach.
[1783] I know Patrick has played it at Golden Gate Park.
[1784] You can bring a laptop and there's hopefully speakers.
[1785] I don't know.
[1786] Just need to be able to hear it.
[1787] That's the appealing part to me is bringing it somewhere and making it kind of an outside thing.
[1788] Right, and I think that's the part a lot of people don't know.
[1789] Oh, yeah, I don't think it should be.
[1790] spread out as many platforms as possible.
[1791] But yeah.
[1792] We'll see.
[1793] As one of the most compelling things I've seen, like Brad said, done with a Move controller.
[1794] I wonder if you could Bluetooth all those Move controllers to an iPhone or other phone and then run this program.
[1795] Well, the better question is if you can use – they need to get it to the point where my iPhone is the device where I don't have to have Move controllers.
[1796] I don't know.
[1797] Or it's – you figure it out so that – I have one kind of Bluetooth device.
[1798] You have another kind of Bluetooth device.
[1799] Everything that has some sort of motion sensing in it, and it's been appropriately calibrated.
[1800] I'm just thinking about how rowdy that game gets.
[1801] We just have this weird menagerie of stuff.
[1802] That's putting your phone in some serious risk.
[1803] Get onto your fucking phone, then.
[1804] Well, I don't know.
[1805] I mean, we had people throwing shoes at the controllers people were holding and stuff like that.
[1806] It's just a good way to get your phone broken.
[1807] Don't play with assholes, I guess.
[1808] That's only play with assholes.
[1809] That's the best way to play it.
[1810] That's the thing.
[1811] I mean, yes.
[1812] Shares start flying.
[1813] When I flung that chair at Brad, I was like, you know, this game is pretty cool.
[1814] And it worked.
[1815] I jumped out of the chair and then I was out of the game.
[1816] See, now if they were to tweak the sensitivity and put it up, that game gets a lot more violent.
[1817] Where the thing doesn't register until you're actually on the ground.
[1818] Right, yeah.
[1819] Hitting someone in the face.
[1820] I guess you can either make that game more...
[1821] Just vicious.
[1822] Like nicer or way meaner based on how you slide that sensitivity.
[1823] Literally.
[1824] No, I have to punch you really hard.
[1825] Or at least punch the controller.
[1826] I was aiming for the controller, but I got your face.
[1827] I got you right in the solar plexus.
[1828] Sorry.
[1829] I'm so good.
[1830] Still green, bitch.
[1831] Fuck you.
[1832] Took yourself out.
[1833] Pissing blood over here.
[1834] I'm the best.
[1835] Brad, anything else?
[1836] Dead Island.
[1837] Yeah, Dead Island.
[1838] Zombies, loot.
[1839] The game's fucked up.
[1840] Dead Island's still dead.
[1841] I gave it four stars.
[1842] I guess, yeah.
[1843] In spite of it's fucked up.
[1844] You can put up with a bunch of bullshit.
[1845] I don't want to say you should play that game, but if you're into loot and stuff, you probably should.
[1846] Even playing it with you, it's as much as I...
[1847] don't like zombies, like when we were playing co -op.
[1848] The game seems legitimately awesome, and it's a shame that it has so many different issues.
[1849] Are they patchable issues?
[1850] Mostly, yeah.
[1851] I continued to have more weird stuff going on.
[1852] I had a quest completely disappear from my quest log at one point.
[1853] Which is fine.
[1854] I think the game was just getting me back for the time that it gave me credit for a quest that I never did.
[1855] But the combat is...
[1856] pretty cool yeah yeah and it's a good looking world yeah it looks really nice uh i love getting experience extra experience for breaking the bones of the enemies before i kill them but i will say again the opening that game they broke it they fucked up that intro is terrible like the there's the whole intro where there's the guy rapping on stage but you can play as that rapper And when you start the game, it picks up from the end of that intro video.
[1857] So it's like you're waking up off that bed.
[1858] But you are the rapper that you threw off stage earlier.
[1859] That intro contains every one of the four playable characters in it doing stuff.
[1860] None of them are the person from whose perspective you are seeing the intro.
[1861] It's like the smack my bitch up video gone horribly wrong.
[1862] It's totally messed up.
[1863] There are plenty of times in the game where even if you're playing by yourself and you hit a cutscene, you will get a cutscene with all four of those characters in it interacting and doing stuff as if they have been rolling around as a unit the entire game.
[1864] A bunch of the NPCs address you as a group of people, even when you're by yourself.
[1865] That's hard.
[1866] Better, higher -budget games make those mistakes, too, of just how to word the cutscenes or having cases where...
[1867] Someone says, hey, you need to go hit that switch, and it's the guy you're controlling, and then you go hit that switch.
[1868] It's like you're telling yourself to go hit the switch.
[1869] But this is constant.
[1870] It's not like here and there.
[1871] It is constant throughout that game.
[1872] It's bizarre.
[1873] Anyway, that's a weird game.
[1874] I messed around with the new Xbox dashboard.
[1875] Yeah, I want to talk to you about that because I've seen some screenshots, and I know you and Patrick went to this meeting with Microsoft.
[1876] Yes, we did.
[1877] And it looks significantly different.
[1878] It does.
[1879] What it is is it seems like an effort to bring the Xbox dashboard in line with the Metro initiative at Microsoft, which is like the Windows phone interface and the Netflix app interface, like those.
[1880] Like it has that same stuff across the top.
[1881] Yeah, so there are some elements.
[1882] The text input, although they didn't know...
[1883] There's already been some stuff on the Xbox that's had that interface.
[1884] So yeah, the way you input text, like when you bring up this kind of tangent, but the on -screen keyboard is the one out of the current Netflix app on the 360.
[1885] Although they were not sure if that would be retroactive across everything that uses text input ever on the Xbox, like old games.
[1886] They weren't sure.
[1887] Does it operate any differently, the keyboard?
[1888] Yeah, yeah.
[1889] Well, the Netflix one is just a straight line of 26 letters.
[1890] Which takes way longer than the one that they have.
[1891] But it's more responsive, which is kind of the common theme of this thing.
[1892] Navigating it is super responsive.
[1893] It feels as snappy as the XMB on the PS3.
[1894] What about the pop -up dash?
[1895] The pop -up guide, does it look the same?
[1896] It's still basically the same.
[1897] I did a quick launch.
[1898] So that's one of the things I forgot to check.
[1899] I'm getting ahead of myself here.
[1900] Brad, tell me. It sounds like making quick launch the main thing sounds like it's one of the big things about this.
[1901] It's called Quick Play now.
[1902] All I was saying about the Metro thing is it's Windows Phone 7 and then also the Windows 8 big tile interface.
[1903] They're all basically the same thing.
[1904] Design -wise, the philosophy is the same.
[1905] The Quick Play thing is on the front page of...
[1906] I assume it's what it takes you to when you log in.
[1907] Right now you go to the Spotlight, which is terrible because it's nothing but ads, as opposed to the thing with all the functionality on it.
[1908] So I think the default thing now actually has some functionality, which is a nice change.
[1909] It's supposedly, I guess, looking at Patrick's story and talking to him some about it, that basically replaces the game library option that you would have off of the...
[1910] Yeah, well, there's still a way to get to that because the quick play thing is still – like the quick launch now, it only shows the most recent like ten things that you did.
[1911] The big change is that they added apps in there.
[1912] So like if you have done – if Netflix was one of the ten last things you ran, you can launch that out of the quick play just like you can a game, which is much needed.
[1913] So the Metro stuff is geared toward – Touch screens, isn't it?
[1914] Isn't that kind of like big blocky things that can kind of touch?
[1915] Yeah, on the phone definitely.
[1916] And Windows 8.
[1917] Windows 8 is like bound for tablets.
[1918] So is that something that you feel like the Kinect is going to be more suited to natively?
[1919] Yeah, there's no Kinect hub now.
[1920] Like you can navigate this interface with the Kinect just like you can with the controller.
[1921] Just got to wait for the Kinect to actually boot and initialize.
[1922] Yeah, that two minutes of Kinect.
[1923] I could have just picked what I wanted, but let's go.
[1924] Yeah, the Kinect integration is really pervasive.
[1925] You can navigate every screen with the Kinect and also pretty much anything that you see as like a title on an interface page, you can say it.
[1926] See, that's cool.
[1927] But it's still only the page that you're currently viewing.
[1928] So if there's something somewhere else that has a voice command, you have to navigate to that pane.
[1929] You've got to go Xbox Video and then Xbox Netflix.
[1930] I actually wound up using for Netflix the voice stuff.
[1931] It works pretty well.
[1932] I just stop when I remember that it's there.
[1933] I need to use that more often.
[1934] I always forget to also.
[1935] They showed the Bing stuff a little bit.
[1936] With the voice stuff?
[1937] Yeah, it didn't work flawlessly, so at least it was a live demo because some of it wouldn't come up, although they swore that it had been functional a few minutes before.
[1938] That's when you're like Xbox, Bing, and then you say what you want to search?
[1939] I think you just say Bing.
[1940] I can't remember.
[1941] Some of those terms are interchangeable, I think, but it's not like you have to say Xbox, Bing, search, blah.
[1942] So what do you do?
[1943] It's sort of stuff – I think the example is like you say Xbox, Bing, Harry Potter.
[1944] Yeah, yeah.
[1945] And it shows you the video content for it rather than Harry – like everything related to Harry Potter that comes back, whether it's games or movies or whatever.
[1946] So there's a dictionary that's – If you're asking what is a viable keyword, it's like – right now it's like broad content -related terms.
[1947] It's not – It doesn't have a fully robust speech recognition engine or anything.
[1948] You can't say anything you can think of.
[1949] Somebody is at Microsoft programming these things in.
[1950] Bing.
[1951] Hot teens.
[1952] What?
[1953] Here's Gears of War.
[1954] They did get it working to the point that they brought up all the Batman stuff, and then you can say sort by games or whatever type of content you want to see, and then it'll filter out.
[1955] So you're searching their media inventory.
[1956] You're not going to, like, the internet at large.
[1957] Right, or even just, like, kind of searching for general Batman stuff.
[1958] And they said it was intelligent enough that, like, I forget what example they gave, but if there's something that's on Netflix and on Zoom, you know, everything on Zoom you're paying for piecemeal, and it's kind of expensive comparatively, but if it's also on Netflix, it'll say, hey, this is on Netflix, and you already have Netflix.
[1959] I mean, I can see the Bing thing being really useful.
[1960] if they actually make it work like this, we're finding some of the downloadable stuff or indie stuff that's actually hard to find.
[1961] But if it's stuff you actually need to know by name, then it gets harder.
[1962] It's not.
[1963] It's a question of what sort of metadata are they tagging each of these pieces of content with?
[1964] How is that being archived and managed?
[1965] Xbox being massage games.
[1966] And then, yeah, see what comes up.
[1967] Here's what comes up.
[1968] They're never going to do any of this stuff for the indie games.
[1969] So that's the big problem, right?
[1970] So hopefully they'll at least do it for...
[1971] I'll be shocked if any of this stuff includes any of those indie games.
[1972] Indie Games Channel seemed a little more prominent.
[1973] I wouldn't call it prominent, but it was a little more visible.
[1974] You had to go to the games tab, and then I think you had to go into the generalized search all games kind of thing.
[1975] And you're pretty sure this is a hard -coded dictionary?
[1976] For the speech stuff?
[1977] No, they said...
[1978] Straight up.
[1979] It absolutely is.
[1980] They are coming up with terms and then making sure the Xbox knows what that term means.
[1981] Right, right.
[1982] Here's how to pronounce lead me's.
[1983] What else was going on with that thing?
[1984] Lead me's?
[1985] Lead me's?
[1986] I mean, just everything about this meeting and seeing this thing emphasized how much they are pushing non -game applications on this thing.
[1987] Like, there's a whole separate apps channel now.
[1988] I think they're calling them apps, if I remember.
[1989] I mean, it's where, like, you know, the Twitter and the Facebook and all that stuff will go.
[1990] What are you, 90?
[1991] The Twitter end of the Facebook.
[1992] The Bing.
[1993] I use the Bing to find the Facebook to look at the pictures of my granddaughter.
[1994] My hip.
[1995] When is this stuff rolling out?
[1996] This year.
[1997] They didn't have a fall update.
[1998] November -ish.
[1999] Is the marketplace?
[2000] Here's the only reason that I don't believe that is because they had zero information about the cloud save update, which is supposedly part of this.
[2001] Yeah, I don't know.
[2002] Like talking to Patrick to the point of they had no information of how that would even work.
[2003] Well, they could very well cut that feature before it comes out.
[2004] That would be a shame.
[2005] I think this update will definitely come out in the fall.
[2006] Yeah, this will be out.
[2007] But it doesn't have to be.
[2008] I don't know.
[2009] They've said it as.
[2010] Whatever.
[2011] A company like Microsoft, to state information like that to the press, it must have gone through X number of approvals.
[2012] They have to set that stuff in stone before they're going to tell us about it.
[2013] Yeah, a little weird that they're not showing it yet.
[2014] It might just be a thing where they're not sure.
[2015] how much space they're going to give to each user.
[2016] The specific thing he said we don't know about was how much space you're going to have.
[2017] He specifically cited Fallout 3 and Bioshock saves.
[2018] He was like, you probably won't have all your Bioshock and Fallout because Bioshock 1 saves on the Xbox are like 8 megapiece.
[2019] Fallouts, I think, are like 2 or 3 megapiece and you can have like 100 of those.
[2020] The PS3 just gives you a raw 150 megabytes, right?
[2021] That sounds right, but I do not know.
[2022] So who knows if they'll go for something like that.
[2023] I subscribe to Plus.
[2024] I still have never used the cloud stuff.
[2025] I turned it on, and I turned on all the automatic updates and stuff like that, but I've never actually used it.
[2026] Was the avatar chat in there?
[2027] That's already out.
[2028] That's a thing?
[2029] That's a Connect Fun Labs thing.
[2030] Do you have to pay for it?
[2031] Yeah.
[2032] Maybe not that one, but maybe.
[2033] They didn't show how you're going to see your friend's river or whatever, like a little fucking avatar parade.
[2034] I don't know how that's going to work.
[2035] Honestly, the most exciting thing about it to me was just how snappy it was with a controller.
[2036] It moves.
[2037] Just the cursor highlights and stuff move.
[2038] We've lost that.
[2039] That's on a profile that hasn't played 600 games.
[2040] That has nothing to do with the speed of navigating the interface.
[2041] Dude, that has everything to do with enumerating the games list.
[2042] That's not what I'm talking about.
[2043] I'm talking about moving a highlight around a bunch of boxes on the screen.
[2044] You can flip between pages as fast as you can hit the buttons.
[2045] You can't do that now.
[2046] No, because they load in and everything.
[2047] Well, I'm talking about just like they...
[2048] animate.
[2049] They slide and stuff.
[2050] This one, it zooms.
[2051] It's really fast.
[2052] What's the new launch dashboard sound?
[2053] Did they boot it up?
[2054] I'm sure it's the same.
[2055] You don't change that with every update.
[2056] Doesn't it still do the little guy?
[2057] I don't know.
[2058] What sound does it make?
[2059] Same sounds, I bet.
[2060] We're very, very close to the same sound.
[2061] Because they did their last big sound update with all the connect stuff.
[2062] That's like the big ribbon thing.
[2063] Well, that's like the Buddha, but also like a lot of the dashboard sounds changed with that update as well.
[2064] I want a better sound.
[2065] I'm sick of it.
[2066] I'm sick of it already.
[2067] You know what?
[2068] They'll rotate it back to the original sound set, and that will all seem fucking brand new to you.
[2069] Or they'll just change the ribbon to purple to signify the connectedness of it all.
[2070] I want blades.
[2071] Let's go back to the Blades.
[2072] There's a picture of the old Blades interface and the story that Patrick put up, and I looked at it, and I'm like, oh, man. I remember that.
[2073] It was so easy to load games.
[2074] Yeah.
[2075] It was so easy to load the disc game.
[2076] Right.
[2077] I don't think there were any ads, really, during the Blades.
[2078] Oh, yeah.
[2079] There were definitely ads.
[2080] I mean, they have since made a lot.
[2081] Yeah, there are way more of them now, but they practically just had MPUs sitting on screen.
[2082] It felt way, I don't know, it felt weirder because it was just sort of, It was shoehorned in there.
[2083] In the current setup, it's like, no, we have specifically made a lot of space here for fucking ads, which sucks, and there's definitely way more.
[2084] This thing is still rotten with ads.
[2085] I'm not going to lie.
[2086] But I can't think of a single space that we were in that had nothing but ads.
[2087] That spotlight channel on the current one is nothing but ads, and it's the first thing you see every time you turn that thing on.
[2088] So at least it's not that, but the big center unit, I mean, basically the design is one giant center unit that rotates and then two columns on the side.
[2089] I'm glad.
[2090] Side columns are where the stuff you want.
[2091] I'm glad there's no specific connect menu.
[2092] That's good.
[2093] Yeah, it's the same.
[2094] But the big fat box in the middle of every page just seems to be, here's more stuff you could buy.
[2095] Oh, really?
[2096] Yeah, that's totally what it is.
[2097] That's the focus.
[2098] But like I said, it's so much faster to zoom around that stuff.
[2099] It's definitely one of the things I like about the XMB is that they do have that kind of default option that brings you to that, like, what's new fake store page?
[2100] But you can get away from that.
[2101] You can turn that off.
[2102] Yeah, my shit is set up at this point where I barely.
[2103] see any of that on my PS3.
[2104] You can minimize it so that you go from option to option.
[2105] But how will you download the Sheraton Gamer Pictures?
[2106] There's some Sheraton Gamer Pictures up.
[2107] Is that just on the PS3?
[2108] No, that's on Xbox.
[2109] Oh, I should go get those.
[2110] Because I actually love fucking really dumb sponsored.
[2111] You're DeVry University.
[2112] I just reset mine to some fucking onion blot, some Outback Steakhouse appetizer.
[2113] Oh, that's good.
[2114] This sucks.
[2115] I'll set it to this.
[2116] I've decided my favorites, though, are the ones that aren't, like, a product or, like, we've cut some dude's face out of our ad campaign for, like, it's fucking J .K. Simmons because State Farm.
[2117] I like it when it's just the logo, just the pure unadulterated.
[2118] Right.
[2119] Fucking, like, here's the State Farm logo.
[2120] Here's the logo for DeVry University.
[2121] Over the weekend, I was looking at what I had and I was changing stuff.
[2122] And, you know, for a while there, I was just downloading as many of the stupid ones.
[2123] And there was just, like, a logo that says...
[2124] Fucking Hot Pockets.
[2125] That's all it said.
[2126] It was just the Hot Pockets.
[2127] That's great.
[2128] And you barely even read it because it's such a shitty, low -quality image.
[2129] Whoever created that content, the company that sent that content in, no one at any point in that process cared enough.
[2130] I see.
[2131] I do still care.
[2132] McDonald's one where it's just the golden arches.
[2133] It's McDonald's underneath.
[2134] It's nice and clean.
[2135] Crisp edges on it.
[2136] Yeah, it was a good image.
[2137] Good source image that they cropped down and scaled correctly.
[2138] And I appreciate and respect that.
[2139] You want a picture of a steak?
[2140] They got that now.
[2141] It's a free picture of a fucking steak.
[2142] I remember wanting to use one of those Tron Legacy ones they put out.
[2143] But if you got up and eyeballed with those things, like the Disney at the bottom.
[2144] The 70 by 70 space that they have to work with, they crammed a copyright Disney in the bottom of that thing.
[2145] No shit.
[2146] What the fuck are you doing?
[2147] Idiots.
[2148] Best Gamer Picture Pack ever sponsored by a company was the Burger King ones.
[2149] Yeah.
[2150] Those were really good.
[2151] Yeah, the Burger King ones were good.
[2152] I liked the Mission Impossible ones.
[2153] Just like, here's a little Ving Rhames for you.
[2154] Yep.
[2155] They should give you...
[2156] Yeah, you know, the movie ones can be fun.
[2157] But I guess, you know, for as stupid as things are, we did just spend like five minutes talking about that bullshit.
[2158] Yeah.
[2159] Because they're really stupid.
[2160] Well, they are profoundly stupid.
[2161] And I spend more time than that hunting around every three months, four months or something.
[2162] I'll just get the bug and be like, I've got to change my gamer picture.
[2163] What's the latest batch of really dumb, free, sponsored gamer picture packs they put out here?
[2164] I changed mine.
[2165] Oh, Axe?
[2166] Fucking yeah.
[2167] I changed mine.
[2168] Mine now just says TGS 2006.
[2169] I think I still have my TGS 06 set as well.
[2170] That's a good one.
[2171] Good throwback.
[2172] I should do my Xbox Live 5.
[2173] Xbox Live is 5 with the 5 spelled with 5.
[2174] 5ive.
[2175] 5ive.
[2176] Yeah.
[2177] God damn it.
[2178] So yeah, in some ways I hate the advertising on the dashboard.
[2179] In some ways I fucking love it.
[2180] I hate the advertising on the dashboard in all ways.
[2181] Yeah, that's terrible.
[2182] But the way that they do promotions on that console is so profoundly stupid that it is occasionally funny.
[2183] Yep.
[2184] I had to stop downloading themes.
[2185] I used to download all free themes and gamer pictures, but I had to reel it back.
[2186] God, I wish...
[2187] I wish more than anything that they would upgrade the interface through which you change your gamer picture.
[2188] Because if you have more than a dozen gamer pictures, you are fucked.
[2189] It takes like five minutes to load all those in.
[2190] With every update, they push those things further and further into the background to some point where it's like they're just not going to exist anymore.
[2191] I don't even remember seeing a gamer picture in this new dashboard.
[2192] You barely see them anywhere on the current one.
[2193] It might be in there somewhere.
[2194] I don't know.
[2195] I don't know.
[2196] It's still the one consistent...
[2197] You pull up the in -game dash stuff.
[2198] That's the only signifier of your friends is on there.
[2199] When you log into Xbox .com, you're seeing those things as kind of your primary thing.
[2200] But even on Xbox .com now, you still see avatars in a lot of spots.
[2201] My phone has avatars on it now.
[2202] Way to go.
[2203] Got that Windows phone.
[2204] It's weird to think that we're sitting here talking about the third significantly different version of the interface.
[2205] The XMB has been what it was basically since that console came out.
[2206] That's not necessarily a bad thing.
[2207] In a lot of ways, I think XMB is still better than anything Microsoft has come up with.
[2208] XMB, you can get to whatever you want real quickly.
[2209] It's real fast, yeah.
[2210] You have to know what you're looking for and where it is.
[2211] Some of the organization is really cluttered under the system stuff.
[2212] There's just like 40 things there.
[2213] But yeah, once you know where it is.
[2214] I find it weird that they have broken out the Netflix app out of video into this TV and streaming.
[2215] I'm like, wait.
[2216] Oh, really?
[2217] It was fun when it was over there next to my personal Samba server and all that other shit.
[2218] It just lets you know that they're going to add more of that stuff.
[2219] They've already got the HBOs probably coming.
[2220] They've already got baseball and football.
[2221] Oh, that's right.
[2222] That's true.
[2223] I have hockey and there's a hockey one too.
[2224] There's enough stuff to put there.
[2225] I think the worst thing about the XMB is if you ever have to change system settings, that menu, the options they give you are just so crazy where it's just like display and it's like output and there's like which one do you go in to change?
[2226] It still makes a shitload more sense than any of the – like trying to muck through system stuff.
[2227] Like the arcane magic of re -downloading old content that you've already bought of like knowing how to get to the account settings screen.
[2228] On an Xbox?
[2229] Yeah, on an Xbox.
[2230] That shit's terrible.
[2231] That shit's – it's – It's crazy.
[2232] Oh, yeah, that part.
[2233] And then if it's something that's super old, you're, like, scrolling forever.
[2234] Like, that Midway stuff that is no longer available in the store, like, that's the only way to get it.
[2235] Oh, God.
[2236] Do you know how hard it was to find that holiday 2008 theme after my USB thing died?
[2237] God damn it.
[2238] They don't even list that anymore.
[2239] That's the best theme ever made.
[2240] It's kind of the bottom line, though, is that, you know, there's stuff that I'm looking for on the Xbox.
[2241] Yeah.
[2242] Sure.
[2243] Brad, anything else you've been playing?
[2244] Gunstringer.
[2245] Gunstringer.
[2246] Can we talk about it?
[2247] I also played some Gunstringer.
[2248] That's a weird game.
[2249] Yeah, it's weird.
[2250] It's a weird game.
[2251] Jeff, you were having some issues with some functionality.
[2252] It's like my right hand doesn't work.
[2253] Yeah.
[2254] Yes.
[2255] That's what we've discovered.
[2256] Thanks for bringing it up also.
[2257] I've just diagnosed you.
[2258] Yeah.
[2259] So I did not play much of it because I was running into responsiveness issues.
[2260] The left hand was pretty much fine.
[2261] You know, you kind of move your guy with your left hand and then move the aiming reticle with the right.
[2262] Right.
[2263] And you paint targets and then have to make like a gun pistol kickback motion with your right hand to fire.
[2264] I believe they call it recoil.
[2265] Yes, like a recoil.
[2266] Like, I shot this gun and now my wrist.
[2267] But that wouldn't happen consistently.
[2268] Uh, so I was like, you know, jerking my hand back as far as it would go and trying soft and trying hard and all these different ways and nothing with any, yeah, nothing with any sort of consistency.
[2269] I had to, I had to start doing a broader motion, not at the wrist, but at the elbow.
[2270] Like if you just kind of flick your wrist up, it doesn't work so well.
[2271] But when I was doing like full 90 degrees with my elbows and it, I tried that.
[2272] I was, I was doing that.
[2273] So I tried a number of different setups.
[2274] I want to know what, like what your situation is like, like in the, in the room with furniture and you like, Your bed is...
[2275] No, I'm not even playing in that room.
[2276] I have the Kinect on the living room.
[2277] So you're sitting on the big couch there?
[2278] I'm kind of standing to the side of the couch.
[2279] I can play Dance Central there.
[2280] I can play other Kinect games there just fine.
[2281] Even sitting on that couch there, playing on that TV in the living room, that's a good seven, eight feet there probably.
[2282] good zone to be in yeah it should be but it's just having yeah just miserable uh so i ended up playing basically like the first little bit fight wavy tube man there like five minutes in or something like that after the tutorial and i was like i this just doesn't work like i don't want to do this some uh some high grade acting from the twisted pixel crew in that in that opening sequence there their little goodfellas moments the camera running around the theater and everything that was pretty good So I think my issue, so when I first, I really wanted to see what all of, like, the sit -down options were like because that's pretty rare for Kinect games.
[2283] Yeah.
[2284] It's not like, yo, stand the fuck up.
[2285] In fact, it even says at one point.
[2286] Like, hey, getting tired, sit down.
[2287] Hey, if you're getting tired, yeah, just play sitting down.
[2288] So first I tried it, like, with my big, long, the way my couch is set, a big U -shaped couch.
[2289] Sitting at the end of it, coffee table goes in pretty much lengthwise.
[2290] So I have like six feet, five and a half feet of coffee table going out in front of me. and then empty space, and then there's the TV.
[2291] It was not loving not being able to see, like, basically the lower half of my body from behind the coffee table.
[2292] Even though, you know, it was not being terrific with that.
[2293] It couldn't pick up your whole skeleton, so it was like, what are you?
[2294] It's like, I don't know.
[2295] Are these things that are flailing about your legs?
[2296] If that's the case, you're playing Gunstringer incorrectly, and also upside down.
[2297] So drag the coffee table out of the way, which is – I didn't have to do that for all Kinect games.
[2298] So that's not a big deal really.
[2299] But even then I feel like – because that's a – like I'm basically at one end of that room and then the Kinect is at the other.
[2300] And that's pushing probably like 12 feet.
[2301] of, of space there.
[2302] Yeah, that's too far.
[2303] So I'm, I mean, yeah, so I, so now I need to figure out like, okay, I need to have like a folding chair, folding chair so I could sit half the distance up from there so I can get the right, uh, you know, uh, kind of activity out of it.
[2304] So I'm still, still tinkering with that stuff, but I've got through several levels even with being at a distance and not.
[2305] That game gives you a lot of slop as far as the amount of hearts that it gives you and the amount of hits that you can take.
[2306] Although, Brad, I don't know if you noticed this in a couple of the – Most of the levels have – I think all the levels that I've played have a sequence where you are two -gunning it, where it's no longer – where motion is automatic and you are just, like, using both hands as a pistol.
[2307] The shooting is even automatic.
[2308] You're literally just pointing the reticles.
[2309] Yeah, it's just pointing and you're not even having to do, like, paint and then activate.
[2310] It's just constantly dumping.
[2311] Is that after you pick up a taco when that happens?
[2312] No, no. Tacos are for just, like, multipliers.
[2313] Oh, okay.
[2314] Yeah.
[2315] No, this is just – and I love the narrator during the taco.
[2316] That's good.
[2317] The taco sequences.
[2318] Yeah.
[2319] They get a lot of mileage out of all that FMV stuff.
[2320] Yeah.
[2321] Although I feel like this is – I don't know.
[2322] I really enjoy the opening sequence, like the theater stuff.
[2323] Yeah.
[2324] But this is maybe the most like Twisted Pixel putting on a show vibe that I've gotten out of.
[2325] I mean the tone of the – the game is quite literally you put it on a puppet show.
[2326] But it's taking place on stage.
[2327] But I mean I guess there's something – There's something way more amateur feeling about the FMV stuff that they included here because it's not like, well, we were FMV on a green screen.
[2328] We cut you out and then just kind of put you in a thing.
[2329] Now it's like they're on set.
[2330] Now it's like, no. They're out in the world.
[2331] It's Twisted Pixel guys delivering lines.
[2332] It's like them doing comedy bits just pure, like, in the world, no false elements, just.
[2333] walking down a hall and two guys delivering lines to each other.
[2334] Yeah, I like that aspect of it.
[2335] I think it's bold in a weird way because it really is.
[2336] The FNV stuff has been their strength, I think, in a lot of their previous games, and to lean into it this hard is super risky.
[2337] But it feels the most like, because I've played a fair amount of, you know.
[2338] mid -90s FMV games, Sega CD stuff and what have you.
[2339] And this game feels definitely the most like...
[2340] It's like you understand now why all those games were the way they were.
[2341] Because everyone in them was a game developer and not an actor.
[2342] It's the not filmmakers and not actors, but they can still get the gear.
[2343] And integrate it into their game.
[2344] And then they can be warm bodies in front of a camera.
[2345] Right.
[2346] And that is what they provide, is warm bodies in front of the camera.
[2347] The intro in particular, the video meta intro that leads directly into 3D stuff happening, really reminded more than anything of Brutal Legend.
[2348] Oh, the Jack Black thing.
[2349] Oh, right.
[2350] Which I thought in the record store.
[2351] Say what you will about that game, but I thought the way that intro flowed right into the game was amazing.
[2352] That was very cool.
[2353] That was very cool.
[2354] This works pretty well in that same vein, but not quite as well.
[2355] Yeah, again, because it's not Jack Black.
[2356] Jack Black is an actor.
[2357] That's the thing.
[2358] He can sell it.
[2359] I don't know.
[2360] These guys did okay.
[2361] They're plucky.
[2362] I don't know.
[2363] I actually kind of prefer, I think, the way that they are doing that stuff.
[2364] They went out and hired a bunch of actual actors to do this relatively awkward stuff.
[2365] But it wouldn't work at all.
[2366] You're right about that.
[2367] It totally wouldn't work at all because the whole appeal is that it is this kind of handmade, like, well, they will always tell you.
[2368] They are totally transparent about the fact that the first time they used FMV was because they ran out of money to do an actual ending for the game.
[2369] So, well.
[2370] We can do this.
[2371] It's cheap and fast.
[2372] It's cheap and fast, and we just dump this video file into the end of the game, and ta -da.
[2373] So, like, that whole aesthetic pervades for sure.
[2374] The best use I've seen of videos so far was, I don't know if you guys have seen any of the side -scrolling sequences.
[2375] Yeah.
[2376] There's one in particular where the shot is from...
[2377] kind of i don't know what the stage terminology is but it's the background of the stage as if you were looking out at the audience it's a little stage left kind of three quarters to the side so so you see like dude is jumping and you're controlling it and stuff but you see the uh the theater audience okay like the live theater audience that shows up at the ends of levels or whatever they are the background and they are scrolling as the camera moves with them you know there are foreground elements and you're jumping over stuff and everything and you just see them like like cheering and laughing and stuff in the background.
[2378] And they fade in and out of kind of the theater kind of concept as levels progress, and there will be kind of weird little stage resets, and there will be moments where you're only seeing stuff in spotlights.
[2379] You'll just see the dude, and you'll just see whatever some specific object is.
[2380] I think that's a really cool idea for a game.
[2381] I think that the way that they have executed that stuff is really awesome.
[2382] The part where I can't play it is unfortunately – Yeah, it's frustrating.
[2383] And we were having this conversation in the car.
[2384] Like I feel like we're still kind of reviewing the hardware.
[2385] Like it's kind of – You can't avoid it because it is – like how they're using it is still – seems to be – it seems like everyone is still wrapping their fucking heads around like how is the best way to make this thing detect movement?
[2386] What are the best – what are the kinds of movements that it is most suited to use and how can we then turn that into gameplay?
[2387] When they brought it by and we played it on the green screen, was there – I mean was it fine there?
[2388] Yeah, so, like, that time it was totally smooth when we played it at E3, which, granted, that's, you know, fairly controlled.
[2389] But, you know, I played it standing.
[2390] I mean, even when we played it, like, Microsoft had a preview event back when it was still a downloadable game.
[2391] Right.
[2392] Like, the first time we played it, like, you know, it was rough in a couple spots because it wasn't a finished game.
[2393] But the responsiveness was, like, it felt better than it did when I played the final box game.
[2394] Yeah.
[2395] It worked.
[2396] Yeah.
[2397] And all that.
[2398] So I don't know.
[2399] Yeah, I guess that's the thing is there's no real clear path to here are the adjustments you need to make to get this to work better.
[2400] Instead, it's just like, OK, it's your right hand doesn't work.
[2401] So no, you're right, because it's somewhere else.
[2402] There are so many crazy variables that it's hard for.
[2403] I imagine on both ends.
[2404] I imagine it's hard for the developer to know the number of different situations that this is going to be used in and what things are going to impact it.
[2405] It's hard for you to know the other end.
[2406] Am I just doing this motion wrong?
[2407] Is the lighting bad?
[2408] Or is this just how the game is?
[2409] There needs to be something that's just like, hey, this isn't working out.
[2410] I'm losing your hand or whatever.
[2411] Let's go into the tuner.
[2412] Let's figure this out.
[2413] I'm not going to let you play this until we figure we have a solution for this.
[2414] I feel like right now the tuner does a very general broad, like, alright, I see your knees, I see your hands.
[2415] Stand here, stand here, stand here.
[2416] Cool, thumbs up, you're ready to go.
[2417] And then you get back in the game.
[2418] But like the tuner, you know, that was developed and designed before, I think, a number of XDK updates that have come out that have changed, you know, overall functionality of that hardware.
[2419] Yeah, the tuner should have you do motions like a game would.
[2420] Like, now wave your right hand up and down.
[2421] Okay, I see, I'm going to lose you.
[2422] Like, alright, you need to get more light in here, or like, hey, buddy, move closer and let's try this again.
[2423] Because otherwise it's just – if they let you have bad experiences playing the Kinect, it's just going to lead to this conversation of like the Kinect sucks.
[2424] So it should even just bring you back and like we're not going to let you play this game until we figure it out.
[2425] And then once you play the game, it's going to be awesome.
[2426] But when it works, it's simple and fun.
[2427] I like the basic – I still – I still find myself making, like, the marionette hand with my left hand and gun hand with my right hand.
[2428] Even though you don't have to.
[2429] Even though I don't have to.
[2430] I guess I feel weirder just, like, doing, like, fins or, like, fists or something.
[2431] Like, okay, at least, you know, if I have a little context, this doesn't feel as stupid somehow.
[2432] Yeah, I agree.
[2433] Just hold a gun.
[2434] Just get a real gun.
[2435] There you go.
[2436] No, you are the controller.
[2437] I bet this is a case where I probably could hold a gun.
[2438] work all other things being equal like if the connect works perfectly yeah it's a gigantic if yeah um there's a definite like pat your head rub your stomach kind of thing to the gameplay i only find that actually i have no problem with like movement with the left hand and you know looking around and gunning with the right it's only when i have to do the two guns two guns are the man for some reason two guns like i can't like and that's and that's where i take a bath and that's when i realized oh like this is actually pretty forgiving and it's giving you plenty of health to work with here because each like it'll be like these Galaga -style patterns.
[2439] The number of classic game references in the Gun Stringer are crazy.
[2440] There's an early Donkey Kong sequence.
[2441] I think it's the first level, second level.
[2442] Pretty close, yeah.
[2443] But, yeah, like these bird sequences where all these crows are coming at you in Galaga -style patterns.
[2444] Like if you don't have one locked in to a specific position where you can just hold it, you're just getting hit over and over again by these birds.
[2445] It's like, oh, God, I've got my right hand where I need it to be, but now I've got to move my left hand around, and then I get off with my right hand, and I'm just getting murdered by crows.
[2446] But you're right.
[2447] It still doesn't end you because you've got tons of health.
[2448] You have tons of health.
[2449] Why don't we take a break?
[2450] You want to take a break?
[2451] I'm fucking dying in here.
[2452] It's so hot.
[2453] I kind of want you, Brad, to get your thermometer and humidity thing.
[2454] I was thinking about going to get it.
[2455] It is hot and wet in here.
[2456] And normally those things I'm all with, but not.
[2457] These clothes are going straight in the hamper.
[2458] Launch your empty shower.
[2459] All right.
[2460] All right.
[2461] This is the worst it has ever been in here.
[2462] I can't stop.
[2463] I can't stop until you stop complaining.
[2464] Come back in five.
[2465] All right.
[2466] We'll be back in a minute more Bobcast.
[2467] All right, guys, we're back.
[2468] Reconstituted.
[2469] We've turned on the AC.
[2470] We've opened the door.
[2471] It's late enough that we can have the door open.
[2472] Yeah, we can do that.
[2473] Although it's not like that door really holds any sound in or out.
[2474] Yeah, I guess.
[2475] I can hear all the ghosts.
[2476] Weird moot point.
[2477] Yeah, is that what that sound was?
[2478] Undertaker.
[2479] Oh, it's SummerSlam.
[2480] Oh, that again.
[2481] Back in that bad dream.
[2482] We talk about some news.
[2483] Capcom revealed alongside a Monster Hunter game for 3DS that they have this crazy bolt -on thing for the 3DS that gives it a right analog stick as well as, I believe, two more shoulder buttons.
[2484] It wasn't clear if there was one more or two more, I think is what it was.
[2485] I'm not sure.
[2486] Yeah, it'd be weird either way.
[2487] So that led to a lot of speculation about, and as of this recording, we don't know either way, but a lot of speculation about Nintendo before TGS, the Tokyo Game Show, which is happening this week in Tokyo, Japan.
[2488] And by the time you hear this podcast, I believe they will have had their event.
[2489] Well, I guess we should table this until next week because we don't really know the whole story.
[2490] This conversation hinges on whether or not the next full update.
[2491] If they do a hardware revision to the 3DS that adds that right stick on there full time, I hate everyone forever.
[2492] Oh, come on.
[2493] You already do.
[2494] Agreed.
[2495] Forever.
[2496] Agreed.
[2497] But we don't know if that's the case.
[2498] We don't know if this is just a one -off weird thing for Capcom, which Nintendo has done in the past.
[2499] Like the Class Controller Pro was sort of an example of – Which then went on to have an afterlife of like occasional support.
[2500] Like every once in a while they kind of – a game decides that sure, why not.
[2501] But never key, never critical to the experience.
[2502] Right, yeah.
[2503] So – Yeah, we don't know at this point what the deal is with this right stick thing, but it's – So you think it would be outrageous?
[2504] None of this really bodes well as far as I'm concerned.
[2505] Like this all just – If it's just a one -off thing that they're making for this that other developers could choose to use but probably never would because how many of those will really get out there worldwide?
[2506] That just seems like Nintendo to me. That's just – then okay.
[2507] But if this is like the future for the system and they are going to try to split – The user base?
[2508] The user base.
[2509] What user base?
[2510] Exactly.
[2511] Okay.
[2512] I'm joking.
[2513] Sorry.
[2514] If they choose to further hang all their early adopters out to dry again.
[2515] But now like two waves of this.
[2516] After – yeah, yeah, yeah.
[2517] The second wave of people that bought it after this price cut.
[2518] Well, really three waves because you have people who genuinely bought it early.
[2519] Wait, we're playing CTF on this thing now?
[2520] Real early adopters.
[2521] And then you have the people that were like, hey, the price is going to drop, and if I want to get on the ambassador early adopters train, I've got to buy before.
[2522] Because what a sweet train that is.
[2523] September 1.
[2524] Well, a lot of places were dropping the price.
[2525] Right, yeah.
[2526] So if you ended up getting it both ways, then.
[2527] It was a deal.
[2528] And then those scam ambassadors who got the best of both worlds.
[2529] And then the people who took the price cut.
[2530] And then the people who took the price cut.
[2531] Like, that's three distinct groups of early adopters of one form or another getting fucked pretty badly.
[2532] What if they send you out a coupon for this?
[2533] But the problem is that we – yes, right on the logistic.
[2534] I don't know.
[2535] Maybe that fixes something.
[2536] Maybe that's what it was missing.
[2537] I don't even know for the types of games that 3DS – No, it's not.
[2538] I think we can say it definitively right now.
[2539] That's not it.
[2540] Some goddamn games.
[2541] Yes.
[2542] Give me a game.
[2543] Give me some – I ain't – I'm thinking about buying Star Fox over here for Christ's sake.
[2544] That's not what's holding developers back.
[2545] They're like, oh, if only it had a right stick, we could make some games for it.
[2546] What if there's a bolt on third screen?
[2547] Now you're talking.
[2548] Namco.
[2549] I mean, games are coming.
[2550] Finally make good on the 3DS name.
[2551] It is three dual screens.
[2552] In all fairness, games are coming.
[2553] Yeah.
[2554] Mario, what are they calling it now?
[2555] Super Mario 3D Land, I think, is the final title.
[2556] That's coming.
[2557] Even with the stuff they announced at E3 and that sort of stuff, it still doesn't feel like enough to me. You're right.
[2558] They need more third -party stuff.
[2559] Where are the Phoenix rights of this generation?
[2560] Granted, it took the DS a while to spin up and get to where it's at, but everything just feels so much more cutthroat now, and with them cutting the price this early on, and now this add -on stuff is truly a purveyor.
[2561] If this truly is going to be a full -on hardware revision, then...
[2562] They're done, man. Handhelds are dead forever.
[2563] So here's where...
[2564] Calling it.
[2565] Here's where I think that they're not going to announce that.
[2566] Because wouldn't you just hold Monster Hunter and then say, okay, here's the hardware revision and announce...
[2567] No, because this is the solution for people who have an old 3DS.
[2568] This is the – okay, you can either buy the new 3DS which has the – again, we're speculating.
[2569] We don't know.
[2570] Either you buy the new 3DS that has the right stick built into it or you can – Wait for the hardware vision that comes with Monster Hunter.
[2571] Get this thing that has the add -on that you can plug your 3DS into.
[2572] Just like how you played Guitar Hero on the DS with their bolt -on guitar grip.
[2573] But my issue – like the thing is like the difference is that – That thing, and usually any sort of weird, let's say borderline exotic peripherals like this, come much later in a system's life, typically.
[2574] You don't see crazy add -ons like this.
[2575] I guess, you know, Zapper and Rob the Robot being kind of early exceptions to this.
[2576] But those were also day one releases.
[2577] Sure, yeah.
[2578] There were two Rob games.
[2579] And this is also a third party, as far as we know, right?
[2580] Well, yeah.
[2581] It's for a third party game.
[2582] Right.
[2583] But, you know.
[2584] Who knows what happens to it from here.
[2585] Anyways, I want to table this conversation until next week.
[2586] There are a lot of different ways to take this information with what's out there so far.
[2587] And none of them are, yeah, the 3DS is awesome.
[2588] Everything's fine.
[2589] It's just different levels of how dire is this situation.
[2590] Plus, I think it's crazy because it's like a little cradle.
[2591] It's not even just a bolt up.
[2592] It looks like those crappy, like, we're going to put a joystick and buttons on your cell phone.
[2593] Just strapping it to this...
[2594] stupid thing that you're never going to have with you.
[2595] Video games!
[2596] Also, it makes the system twice as big.
[2597] Twice as big is maybe a bit of a stretch.
[2598] That thing looks about as big as the cradle that I currently put my 3DS into to charge at home.
[2599] Oh, they have to release new charging cradles too.
[2600] This whole thing's doomed!
[2601] It doesn't fit over the third -party batteries that people put on.
[2602] I hope you guys like playing video games on TVs because that's the only place you can play them now.
[2603] Unless you've got a cell phone.
[2604] I have a cell phone.
[2605] Because all this stuff is dead.
[2606] I downloaded Angry Birds on my touchpad.
[2607] What?
[2608] Why would you do that?
[2609] That's a game.
[2610] What else is he going to do with this touchpad?
[2611] Fair enough.
[2612] How much does it cost?
[2613] Angry Birds?
[2614] Angry Birds is free.
[2615] Oh, that's right.
[2616] On Android.
[2617] Yeah.
[2618] That's not Android.
[2619] It's not OS.
[2620] This is WebOS.
[2621] Oh, it is?
[2622] Oh.
[2623] But still.
[2624] It's still free.
[2625] Or you got a demo version?
[2626] I guess they do ad versions for free on their iPhone.
[2627] They convert to HD.
[2628] You should do paid versions or whatever.
[2629] Nintendo.
[2630] Maybe they just cut the cord on the fucking WebOS store and just said, like, fuck it, Wild West, go.
[2631] Get all you can.
[2632] We ain't telling nobody.
[2633] They actually sell other stuff in there.
[2634] Is the Kindle app back up?
[2635] Yes.
[2636] Okay, so that got pulled when all this happened.
[2637] And I was like, well, if they're just going to pull apps out of it, then what the hell?
[2638] I got a thing that's basically Cydia for that thing, so I'm just downloading XML feeds of all kinds of homebrew shit at this point.
[2639] Cool.
[2640] Yeah, whatever.
[2641] I feel like my position on handheld gaming and its future are...
[2642] We've mined this pretty well, but damn, son.
[2643] Yeah.
[2644] I just wonder what's Sony doing around here.
[2645] Let's just not put this thing out.
[2646] I bet that everything that happens like this, they are emboldened even further.
[2647] Really?
[2648] We're going to come out and kick their ass.
[2649] Oh, yeah.
[2650] They're going to come out.
[2651] We're going to blow away.
[2652] putting on blinders to the fucking smartphone inevitability future that's encroaching on everything, and they're just looking at, like, the directest, closest competitor is the 3DS, and we have been fighting Nintendo for years.
[2653] And I'm pretty sure I saw someone from Sony referencing the Vita and using the term infrastructure mode.
[2654] What is that?
[2655] So if they're still using the ad hoc infrastructure mode.
[2656] They're not limited just to PSP.
[2657] I know.
[2658] But in terms of the way they're used in a gaming context.
[2659] Yeah, I guess so.
[2660] And the way that people think of Wi -Fi versus local and all that sort of stuff.
[2661] Just say, yo, it's the internet or yo, it's not the internet.
[2662] I think that.
[2663] Those terms carry, and probably within Sony, it doesn't sound weird just because of Japan and because of the way that stuff gets played there.
[2664] Because ad hoc is viable there.
[2665] Because everyone's playing Monster Hunter, I guess.
[2666] On their analog sticks.
[2667] On their dual analog.
[2668] No, that's their one.
[2669] Their single analog stick.
[2670] Not for long.
[2671] We've got a meeting with Nintendo.
[2672] Tomorrow.
[2673] Yeah.
[2674] Or today.
[2675] Timed to there.
[2676] Tomorrow morning.
[2677] And they wouldn't tell us what it is.
[2678] Big surprise!
[2679] I don't know.
[2680] I don't know if it'll be related to this or not.
[2681] We added a racing wheel to the 3DS.
[2682] Don't.
[2683] Just put it in the cradle.
[2684] Pokemon Snap 2.
[2685] And it's a racing wheel.
[2686] Would that be enough?
[2687] Would that be a good thing?
[2688] Pokemon Snap 2.
[2689] We've added more augmented reality.
[2690] Pokemon Snap.
[2691] I would be interested in playing that game.
[2692] Snap a picture of Mewtwo.
[2693] Like peeking around the corner of your desk.
[2694] But that's basically what the Pokedex 3D does, is that exact thing.
[2695] But what if they were running around in your house?
[2696] If you had to chase...
[2697] You mean no track?
[2698] All safari?
[2699] Yeah.
[2700] Wow.
[2701] Less track, more safari.
[2702] To the limits.
[2703] As far as you can go.
[2704] As far as you can go.
[2705] Yeah.
[2706] Damn it.
[2707] God damn it.
[2708] EA finally announced Syndicate.
[2709] Yay!
[2710] We knew that Starbreeze was making a Syndicate game for EA since the late 80s.
[2711] Since the last Syndicate game.
[2712] Since before the first Syndicate game came out.
[2713] Yeah, yeah.
[2714] All those other games were actually just marketing for this game.
[2715] Remember, it was the last game that Fred Savage played in The Wizard was the new Syndicate game.
[2716] I don't know what to say about this.
[2717] It kind of looks a lot like Deus Ex.
[2718] I mean, it's future cyberpunk.
[2719] Cyberdrugs.
[2720] Cyberdrugs.
[2721] They didn't really talk about the drugs any.
[2722] They talked about chip implants.
[2723] Hacking.
[2724] Hacking.
[2725] And slowing down time.
[2726] Yeah.
[2727] Because bullet time is real fresh.
[2728] It's pretty dope.
[2729] Slow stuff down.
[2730] I like the little box treatment thing that they put out.
[2731] That stuff looks cool to me. Yeah.
[2732] But, yeah, I don't know.
[2733] We'll see what that is.
[2734] It's crazy that that's coming out in early 2012.
[2735] And they just announced it?
[2736] Just announced September 2011.
[2737] That to me says that this game has been on the precipice of getting cancelled for probably a year.
[2738] And probably even got cancelled once or twice.
[2739] Or rebooted or whatever.
[2740] I wouldn't be surprised.
[2741] Anyway, that happened.
[2742] I'm not outraged, like some people seem to be, that it's not a strategy game.
[2743] Dude, come on.
[2744] It's 2011, y 'all.
[2745] You go and look at screenshots of old syndicates.
[2746] We've been hurt so many times, you should have seen this coming.
[2747] What did you really think it was going to be when all these rumors were flying around?
[2748] Do you think it was not going to be first -person?
[2749] The rumors had first -person shooter attached to it.
[2750] The rumors said Starbreeze, developer that has made only first -person shooters.
[2751] There's been so much turnover there.
[2752] Barely even them.
[2753] But even still, just culture of that developer.
[2754] And yeah, look at the writing on the wall.
[2755] Come on, don't be...
[2756] It's unfortunate that no one is going out and making the honest, true, spiritual, real sequel to Syndicate, just like that hasn't been announced for XCOM or anything like that.
[2757] Yeah, I would like to play more games like that, for sure.
[2758] But that doesn't mean that I don't like action games.
[2759] And also, I feel like that's not...
[2760] If you're going to reboot a franchise like that, making your strategy, somehow retaining perspective or mechanics or whatever.
[2761] I just like the way that your dudes would skitter all crazy around.
[2762] They'd be running all fast.
[2763] Their trench coats would flip up.
[2764] Cutting down civilians for no good reason.
[2765] It's kind of a downloadable game at this day and age.
[2766] If you're not going big budget first person shooter, that's the justification to put you on a disc.
[2767] you put that game out as a download.
[2768] I guess so.
[2769] It's either are you going to make this into a big franchise or a couple of downloadable games.
[2770] What you just said depresses me in a weird way.
[2771] I'm not thrilled about it, man. I'm not trying to craft the future here somehow, but it seems like that's kind of the way.
[2772] Let's talk about some new releases for this week.
[2773] We've got games coming out.
[2774] Yeah.
[2775] White Knight Chronicles 2 for the PlayStation 3.
[2776] Thank you, D3, for bringing that one to the States because Sony said we're cool.
[2777] HL12 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
[2778] What was that weird thing with White Knight 2 about having to have done something to be able to play it or something?
[2779] Like you had to have done something in the first game or something?
[2780] That can't be the case.
[2781] I do remember hearing something.
[2782] Maybe there'd be...
[2783] I don't know.
[2784] Gunstranger for Xbox 360 and Kinect.
[2785] BitTrip Saga for the 3DS and BitTrip Complete for the Nintendo Wii.
[2786] I guess those are slightly different packaging of the existing BitTrip games that have been released on the 6.
[2787] I guess those are all WiiWare?
[2788] Yes.
[2789] And two of them came out on Steam, but I can't remember which two.
[2790] Runner and Beat.
[2791] That's a 3DS game.
[2792] I never played any of those.
[2793] I think I'm going to get the 3DS one because that art style looks like it would play in 3D really well.
[2794] Some of those are awesome and some of those have some great sound to them.
[2795] Some of those don't last.
[2796] Some of those you play it for one round until you die and go like, yeah, okay, I get it.
[2797] It's a trifle.
[2798] It can be.
[2799] But yeah, that's maybe a good 3DS pickup.
[2800] The saga of Commander Video must be told.
[2801] I like Commander Video.
[2802] I like his giant tall head.
[2803] But I feel like his best appearance was in Super Meat Boy.
[2804] Yeah, that was pretty good.
[2805] Nicktoons MLB.
[2806] Finally, the two licenses coming together that you've been waiting for.
[2807] So I'm waiting at E3.
[2808] We're waiting in the back of the 2K area.
[2809] They've got their weird fake bar set up back there.
[2810] So me and Drew are just sitting at a table waiting to interview Ken Levine.
[2811] Waiting for death.
[2812] On a TV back there, they just have Nicktoons MLB running.
[2813] I'm looking at this thing.
[2814] I hadn't heard about it before.
[2815] I'm looking at it trying to figure out what it is.
[2816] I'm like, okay, wait a minute.
[2817] Those are actual real baseball players and then SpongeBob SquarePants.
[2818] That's kind of awesome.
[2819] On the same field.
[2820] I didn't realize there was that crossover.
[2821] This is like the last day of E3.
[2822] It's kind of been a week.
[2823] I'm just looking at it trying to figure out if it's really happening.
[2824] Am I confusing myself?
[2825] Am I looking at the wrong?
[2826] Is this actual gameplay?
[2827] Is this a trailer?
[2828] And then clearly this wouldn't be in the game.
[2829] I looked it up later.
[2830] I'm pretty sure that's what that is.
[2831] That's real.
[2832] That's real.
[2833] And that's coming to the 360, the Wii, and the DS.
[2834] What?
[2835] The 360 Wii and the DS?
[2836] Like not PS3?
[2837] Not that I saw.
[2838] All right.
[2839] I looked around.
[2840] Didn't see it there.
[2841] That's just the one system with the crazy hardcore MLB stuff.
[2842] Right.
[2843] That seems weird.
[2844] Maybe cover all platforms that don't have MLB already covered.
[2845] I don't know.
[2846] I mean, 2K holds the MLB license.
[2847] That's why they're doing that.
[2848] Yeah.
[2849] No, I get that.
[2850] Anyway.
[2851] God of War Origins Collection for PlayStation 3.
[2852] That's those two PSP games that Ready at Dawn made.
[2853] We did a quick look of those.
[2854] And that second one, not Chains of Olympus, but...
[2855] Ghost of Sparta.
[2856] Ghost of Sparta.
[2857] That shit looks good.
[2858] It's not God of War 3, but not too effing shabby.
[2859] And it still plays pretty well.
[2860] If you're all, I love God of War, but I don't have PSP.
[2861] Check this out.
[2862] XBLA, Radiant Silver Gun.
[2863] Yeah.
[2864] Finally coming out.
[2865] I've ever played Radiant Silver Gun.
[2866] It's okay.
[2867] Wait, is that the one that has a lot of, like, it's, you know, 2D shooter side -scrolling, but it's got a lot of crazy perspective changes?
[2868] Top -down.
[2869] Top -down?
[2870] Okay, I have fucking no idea what this is then.
[2871] Basically the original Ikaruga.
[2872] Or, you know, Ikaruga was kind of a spiritual sequel.
[2873] They've added some kind of Ikaruga scoring mode to the version also, like, as a bonus.
[2874] What do you think is going to happen to the street value of Saturn import copies of this game?
[2875] I bet they'll take some kind of hit.
[2876] I feel like that's an artificial price at this point because I think anyone who really would want Radiant Silver Gun and would be willing to play those prices already has one.
[2877] They're not impossible to find.
[2878] And that's just for collectors.
[2879] If you just want to play it, get your hands on it in some other fashion.
[2880] I never thought that game was all that great.
[2881] Don't let Milky hear you say that.
[2882] I think I might have even told him that.
[2883] And on PlayStation Network, From Dust comes out this week.
[2884] And Ferrari The Race Experience.
[2885] Downloadable game.
[2886] You drive Ferraris.
[2887] I gather.
[2888] That's it for new releases.
[2889] Thank you, guys.
[2890] I think Penguins in Madagascar is coming out this week also.
[2891] Yeah, there's totally a bunch of other ones that I am not reading.
[2892] Oh, yeah, yeah.
[2893] There's Emily Strange, Strangerous for the Nintendo DS.
[2894] Is that Red Orchestra 2?
[2895] Oh, yeah, Red Orchestra 2 is coming out this week.
[2896] Oh, that actually merits mentioning.
[2897] I forgot that one.
[2898] That one got past me. But I think that's because that's a digital -only release.
[2899] So get your steam on for, I don't know, some sort of World War II.
[2900] You shoot men?
[2901] I'll ask Drew about it.
[2902] Brad, you want to take us home here?
[2903] Talk about some emails.
[2904] We are going to talk about some emails.
[2905] Bombcast at giantbomb .com is the email address.
[2906] First email comes in from Jordan in...
[2907] I don't know where Jordan's from.
[2908] Is he from Jordan?
[2909] Jordan from Jordan.
[2910] I noticed that you guys talk about the Kinect way more than you talk about the Move.
[2911] Not counting the sales numbers, would you consider the Kinect more of a success than the Move by the sheer fact that people are still talking about it, even considering the lack of games and support by Microsoft?
[2912] I guess.
[2913] It's really faint praise.
[2914] Considering most of the time the Kinect comes up, it's in the context of like, yeah, that fucking thing.
[2915] Whereas with the Move...
[2916] It just doesn't come up.
[2917] At least there's Johann Sebastian Joust.
[2918] It's weird.
[2919] Arguably, the Move is hot.
[2920] I've had more fun with the Move.
[2921] Yeah.
[2922] Lately, what's weird is that I personally think the Move is a better product and that somehow, because of that, the Kinect warrants more discussion, if that makes sense.
[2923] That doesn't make sense.
[2924] The thing is that I haven't seen any application of the move.
[2925] I feel like they've been applying the move controls to their first -person shooters and stuff like SOCOM.
[2926] That's the other thing.
[2927] It's kind of nice in a way that the games that matter on that platform are supporting this peripheral.
[2928] but not in any way that I would want to play them.
[2929] More to the point, when we're talking about those games, we're just talking about those games.
[2930] We're not talking about the move support in games that we play.
[2931] Just like we're not talking about the 3D support in those games.
[2932] Exactly.
[2933] I mean, Kinect games are Kinect games.
[2934] And that's it.
[2935] Exclusively, yeah.
[2936] So, of course, if we're going to play those games, it's on the connection.
[2937] For me, the move is kind of a known quantity.
[2938] Like, I kind of know what it does and how it works.
[2939] What's the thing?
[2940] It does what it's supposed to do.
[2941] Yeah, it does what it's supposed to do.
[2942] But it's not being applied in any sort of interesting ways.
[2943] Well, no, but, like, I still know when they apply it, it's like, usually it works pretty well.
[2944] It's like, hey, you're going to be doing this with the move.
[2945] And it's like, okay, I kind of just don't want to do that, but it's going to work.
[2946] I mean, the problem is that I don't want a, like...
[2947] dual analog stick replacement and that's kind of what usually the move gets used for is like in lieu of having a right analog stick wave this thing around like and if you want to strap it into a big plastic gun we'll let you do that too sure sure and you know there's plenty of connect games that you know kind of try and get away with that as well and that's no better there but like you know that dead space uh was it extraction that was pretty good it was you know it was a light gun game with the with the move controllers but like version of a Wii game.
[2948] But it worked.
[2949] It worked really well.
[2950] I feel like with the Kinect, the reason I talk about it is I have yet to see that thing meet the expectations that Microsoft put out there for the Kinect.
[2951] Every time we talk about it, did it work?
[2952] That's what I want to know.
[2953] Basically, I don't ask if the Kinect or the move works, because usually it does.
[2954] It's like, was the game any good?
[2955] And it's like, did it work?
[2956] And the only time I've heard it...
[2957] be pretty good is Dance Central.
[2958] Yep.
[2959] And Child of Eden didn't seem to have problems.
[2960] And then you could start talking about the game in terms of like, well, is Dance Central good?
[2961] Right, yeah.
[2962] But the other conversation, like the move conversation, yeah, you don't have a technical issue to get past, but then there's also nothing to talk about because there's not a game that's so critical.
[2963] It's like, we need to talk about this move experience that we had.
[2964] Yeah, I still feel like, you know, the...
[2965] the prime examples of like move only games and, and, and that stuff is like some of the downloadable stuff they put out around launch and sports champions.
[2966] Like those are still the, yeah, there's, there's not a lot going on there for better or worse.
[2967] I don't know.
[2968] I don't know.
[2969] Absolutely for the worst.
[2970] Cause that thing, I mean, the precision on that thing is so high, but I don't know if it works so well.
[2971] I don't know.
[2972] I think they just put it out in, in the wake of people going like, I think we're done with this style of control scheme, the weave.
[2973] Hey, cool.
[2974] But cause like the more, and there's no more like, easy second -hand third -party ports.
[2975] There is no more dead space extraction.
[2976] You're definitely right.
[2977] That's done.
[2978] And also, to Ryan's point, they're not being overly ambitious with the move, but then again, they're not failing to meet those expectations.
[2979] It's not like they're like, hey, check out this game you can do with the move.
[2980] You'll be able to twirl around and do all this stuff.
[2981] No, I can't.
[2982] That doesn't work.
[2983] I can't do that with it.
[2984] I'm trying to think of upcoming move games, and I think, great job, Jeremy.
[2985] He's the only one, right?
[2986] Isn't All for One, isn't that a move game?
[2987] No. There was definitely stuff at the...
[2988] Maybe optionally, I played it without it.
[2989] Oh, but you're talking about just like pure move games.
[2990] I think there was stuff at the press conference.
[2991] They were showing like NBA had...
[2992] Oh, yeah, they did put move support in that.
[2993] Move support in that.
[2994] Like there's games with move support.
[2995] I think there's with support, right?
[2996] But again, it's...
[2997] I don't...
[2998] It's games you're already perfectly capable of playing another way.
[2999] I have a controller.
[3000] I would rather use my regular controller.
[3001] Yeah, but – And there's never – again, to back up Jeff's point, other than some launch downloadable stuff, there's never been a Move game where I'm like, yeah, I would rather use the Move controller than just my DualShock.
[3002] But I have not – for the few Move games I have played, I have been completely satisfied with the experience.
[3003] And for the games I have played on Kinect, I have been disappointed and frustrated.
[3004] I feel like – so in terms of my experience with both – I would say I have enjoyed...
[3005] I think the Move is a more successful product.
[3006] I've used the Kinect more.
[3007] Even if not for games, just for interface stuff on the dash.
[3008] Like some of the voice activation stuff.
[3009] I think all of your points are totally valid.
[3010] I'm starting to use the Netflix voice stuff.
[3011] And I'm still frustrated by the lack of...
[3012] Microsoft has a similar issue as Nintendo does if they need to crank out some fucking games.
[3013] They're getting better.
[3014] They're putting out more games.
[3015] They're still not great.
[3016] Most of the time.
[3017] Like at this point when I boot up my 360, I almost wish I could tell it not to calibrate the video on the Kinect because I'm not going to use it.
[3018] I just want the microphone.
[3019] I don't need the two minutes of it going.
[3020] You like that it bows at you?
[3021] I like that it bows at me. It takes too long.
[3022] I like it.
[3023] Hello, sir.
[3024] Straight bow to me, bitch.
[3025] I unplugged it.
[3026] I unplugged it back in for the guns trigger, but before that.
[3027] I don't have it hooked up to my primary Xbox, so I only see it when I'm specifically going to play Kinect games.
[3028] In your Kinect.
[3029] Theater?
[3030] Yes.
[3031] Both need work.
[3032] Kinect needs to be more consistent.
[3033] Yeah, but if they both went away tomorrow, it wouldn't necessarily be the end of the world.
[3034] I would like voice recognition built into the next console.
[3035] That's about as far as I'd go.
[3036] I wouldn't mind if games got that right at some point where you could talk to it.
[3037] There are still moments with Kinect where when it does something, it's fucking the future.
[3038] and I've never had that experience with the move.
[3039] Basically, just don't replace my controller yet.
[3040] If I can use my controller and talk to you, that's fine.
[3041] That's an added bonus.
[3042] That'll be Mass Effect.
[3043] So that's great.
[3044] The minute you're like, hey, now wave your hand, and that's going to be your controller, then it's like, no, the controller's good.
[3045] But if you want to, the Mass Effect thing is going to be you saying the line of dialogue, and then it saying the line of dialogue again after you select it.
[3046] I'm not saying that that is my dream.
[3047] But I don't know.
[3048] Whatever.
[3049] If I could say the line of dialogue.
[3050] I'll have to say it all high -pitched because I play as a fem -shep.
[3051] No, you won't because you'll say it, but then she will immediately say it afterwards because it doesn't repair it.
[3052] It needs to replace that.
[3053] It needs to be all of a sudden like Shepard no longer speaks.
[3054] You have to read the lines.
[3055] And if you don't read them aloud, eventually you get shot.
[3056] Or if they're just like, what?
[3057] I would totally read all of the lines of dialogue.
[3058] Yeah.
[3059] I would totally.
[3060] It would be great if it was built in instead of the Xbox being like, sorry, I didn't hear you.
[3061] If the character were just like, what did you try to say?
[3062] I just said Rex.
[3063] That's nothing.
[3064] I would come over to your house and watch you play through Mass Effect 3.
[3065] Oh, it would be so much fun.
[3066] Just get the U -Star technology in there while you're at it.
[3067] Cut me out.
[3068] But the thing is they give you those paraphrases of what they're actually supposed to say.
[3069] That's what I'm saying.
[3070] Change that.
[3071] That would be funny.
[3072] See, that would be a great use.
[3073] You know, bring a little play acting into it.
[3074] Why not?
[3075] Like, get you into the character some.
[3076] Get you into the Mass Effect mood of things.
[3077] And then if you break character, it just stops and goes like, come on, man. You can do better than that.
[3078] It's like everyone else on the screen just goes like, I'll be in my trailer.
[3079] The camera kind of jostles a bit.
[3080] Boom, dips into the shots.
[3081] We're going to fucking amateurs here.
[3082] We've got to reset.
[3083] All right, everyone, back in five minutes.
[3084] Dude takes his mask off.
[3085] It's really hot in here.
[3086] Shepard.
[3087] Yeah, that comes off.
[3088] Just wrecks his...
[3089] Yeah, it's that guy having a cigarette with just like the little raccoon makeup around his eyes.
[3090] Where he had the mask on.
[3091] Are you ready?
[3092] Are you going to do this now?
[3093] All right, hold on a second.
[3094] Let me get the mask back on.
[3095] That guy's Australian.
[3096] Shepard.
[3097] Next email comes in from Houston.
[3098] I don't know where he's from.
[3099] Jordan.
[3100] Is it the adult film actress?
[3101] Yes.
[3102] Fantastic.
[3103] Was it Houston 500?
[3104] Whatever it was, yeah.
[3105] Hey, Jeff.
[3106] Yeah, right.
[3107] Whatever it was.
[3108] Come on.
[3109] I just was looking this up on Wikipedia recently.
[3110] It was somewhere over 600 reports.
[3111] Oh, God.
[3112] Jeff, I was wondering what your thoughts were on Star Trek Online going free to play.
[3113] This happened a couple weeks ago.
[3114] We didn't talk about it then because there was other stuff happening.
[3115] Yeah, like every other MMO in existence that is not doing gangbusters.
[3116] Yeah, sure enough, it went free to play.
[3117] Yeah, whatever.
[3118] What did they give you, anything?
[3119] I think that means I'll be a gold.
[3120] member for life, I guess.
[3121] Because there is still a paid tier where you pay the monthly fee.
[3122] I don't know.
[3123] What's the universe doing for you?
[3124] I don't know.
[3125] But the great thing is you could jump in anytime you want.
[3126] Exactly.
[3127] I don't know.
[3128] On my forum spring and stuff, people keep asking about it like they're trying to burn me or something.
[3129] But yeah, I don't know.
[3130] I'd do it again.
[3131] Jeff spends money irresponsibly.
[3132] People who know Jeff well enough know that, yeah, that's...
[3133] I know that you think it's fucking crazy that he would spend it.
[3134] Was it $250?
[3135] I don't even remember.
[3136] Yeah.
[3137] But he's spent more money more stupidly in the past.
[3138] How?
[3139] Your Japanese future TV.
[3140] Yeah.
[3141] That was pretty dumb.
[3142] Also, and you got rope -a -doped into that one, too.
[3143] You fucking got into a suicide pact with someone who backed out at the last second.
[3144] And Amir was like, oh, I've got to buy a car, dude.
[3145] You could have said that before we got into the fucking store.
[3146] Exactly.
[3147] You asshole.
[3148] Oh.
[3149] Fantastic.
[3150] Jason from Jersey.
[3151] This past Sunday, I was at NYCD at a concert, and while in line, saw someone walk past wearing an Oscar Mike shirt.
[3152] Given that it was the 10th anniversary of 9 -11, shouting anything containing the word bomb would probably have gotten me detained for a few years, so I thought better of it.
[3153] In those situations, what is the best way to identify yourself as a fellow fan?
[3154] Just tackle them and start punching.
[3155] Everybody knows that.
[3156] You should see PAX.
[3157] Yeah.
[3158] Yeah, that's all that happens.
[3159] Still got a weird bruise on my arm.
[3160] You get for tackling everyone.
[3161] Some other internet forums have secret code phrases.
[3162] Really?
[3163] I'm aware of the something awful code phrase I have never used.
[3164] This guy is suggesting a few.
[3165] What is it?
[3166] Well, you can't.
[3167] It's secret.
[3168] It's secret.
[3169] I don't even want to know it.
[3170] Yeah.
[3171] That's a question.
[3172] I have something.
[3173] I do, too.
[3174] I don't want to get roped into the weird cabal, though.
[3175] Yeah, good call.
[3176] There's anything wrong with Something Awful, but I read it.
[3177] There's a lot wrong with Something Awful.
[3178] I've never posted.
[3179] Yeah, same.
[3180] Same, same.
[3181] Yeah, I paid for a membership and everything.
[3182] You know, five bucks.
[3183] I have archive access.
[3184] I think it's ten bucks, isn't it?
[3185] I forget.
[3186] Someone gifted one to me a while back.
[3187] Yeah.
[3188] Dick.
[3189] I don't know.
[3190] I don't have any good – What does he suggest?
[3191] He suggests emails, I'm a wizard, or get bent.
[3192] I'm not sure that any of those really work.
[3193] Yeah, I don't think – The hard thing is that our community is weirdly splintered.
[3194] Like there's definitely – there are people that – and I know this for a fact.
[3195] We get a lot of folks who listen to this podcast who have never, ever, ever visited the website.
[3196] So they don't know.
[3197] Anything from quick looks from the forums, from hamburgers and sandwiches and Photoshop threads.
[3198] Because the quick looks are a lot like this podcast, except we're playing a game while it happens.
[3199] Sometimes talking about the game.
[3200] Yeah, no, if you are just listening to the podcast, come to the website.
[3201] It's really good.
[3202] We put a lot of work into it.
[3203] We don't.
[3204] Someone does.
[3205] A lot of work gets put into it.
[3206] Right, yeah.
[3207] So that should pay off for someone, I guess, at some point.
[3208] So, yeah, I'm not sure that there's any one thing that crosses over everywhere that really works that way.
[3209] Suggestions?
[3210] Any ideas?
[3211] No. I don't know.
[3212] All right.
[3213] The phrase is, hey, man, you like the Internet?
[3214] What's the proper answer?
[3215] Yeah, I like the Internet.
[3216] There you go.
[3217] And then you hug.
[3218] Yeah, I think a good...
[3219] So, hey man, you like the internet.
[3220] Not some man hug.
[3221] A full two -handed...
[3222] Head on shoulders.
[3223] If you tilt to the right, it's like you want to get some kissing on, which is fine too.
[3224] Just a caress.
[3225] Alright.
[3226] What were we talking about?
[3227] Body kissing.
[3228] Okay, yeah.
[3229] I'm all for it.
[3230] Gentle caress.
[3231] Let's do it.
[3232] I mean, not...
[3233] I didn't mean it like that.
[3234] Too bad.
[3235] Jack Che from Brooklyn, New York says, Hey guys, love the site and the bomb cast.
[3236] Keep up the good work.
[3237] Jack is familiar with both.
[3238] He uses the site and the part.
[3239] He likes both parts.
[3240] Two out of two.
[3241] There it is.
[3242] There's a testimonial.
[3243] That's right.
[3244] Ba -bam.
[3245] Question about driver San Francisco.
[3246] How often do you feel like you've seen the same traffic pattern when you shift?
[3247] Does it feel pretty randomized or do you start to see some sort of grouping of cars?
[3248] I didn't see anything like that.
[3249] It's kind of just random all the time.
[3250] I mean, there's not as many cars as would be in actual San Francisco.
[3251] There's no real gridlock traffic or anything like that.
[3252] But you could say that about any video game ever with cars.
[3253] Yeah.
[3254] There's only so much.
[3255] Yeah.
[3256] There's definitely, I mean, you know, they definitely see the traffic a certain way when missions require it.
[3257] Like if you're in a mission where all of a sudden you need a taxi, you will find a taxi.
[3258] If you need big vehicles like you do at the end of the game, they put big vehicles there.
[3259] Just make sure that you have what you need.
[3260] Yeah.
[3261] I'm going to call it.
[3262] That's it for emails.
[3263] Thanks, everyone, who wrote in.
[3264] Bombcast .com.
[3265] Guys, let's get out of here.
[3266] Let's end this damn podcast.
[3267] What do you say?
[3268] Let's talk real briefly about TNT.
[3269] Okay, yeah.
[3270] I got a question from someone.
[3271] Okay, sure.
[3272] So we're going to change it up some post -Big Live Live show.
[3273] We have several ideas for how Thursday Night Throwdowns will operate in the future.
[3274] Basically getting away from always being married to us playing a multiplayer game with people in the community in some sort of competitive fashion.
[3275] For two hours.
[3276] For two hours.
[3277] All of these things are going to change.
[3278] Everything you just said.
[3279] Literally everything that I just said is going to change in some way or another.
[3280] Which does not mean we will not play multiplayer games with the community online.
[3281] But also, we want to broaden the kinds of games that we can play.
[3282] We want to do stuff that's...
[3283] cooperative in nature, and stuff that's older, stuff that can't necessarily be done online.
[3284] A larger showcase of games in multiplayer formats online or off.
[3285] Just kind of broaden our horizons a little bit.
[3286] We think it'll make for a more interesting show going forward.
[3287] Not always competitive multiplayer, sometimes cooperative.
[3288] Which can be tricky sometimes if we're doing it online because it can be hard to get a lot of people through there in two hours or whatever.
[3289] So this week we're doing kind of a grand break from the...
[3290] the format of old and we're going to be playing some dead Island four player co -op, uh, with all four players here in the office.
[3291] Yeah.
[3292] Uh, so like scrub league would fit into this slot.
[3293] Yeah.
[3294] Yeah.
[3295] I think, I think you're going to see scrub league happen more often.
[3296] Um, you know, older, you know, competitive games that, you know, maybe some split screen stuff that, uh, uh, you know, isn't on a system that has a damn internet connection on it.
[3297] Things like that.
[3298] But yeah, this week Dead Island is what's being played and it's being played all locally.
[3299] So we'll still have community interaction in other ways but just not in the plan with you guys.
[3300] Yeah, we'll still run chat and take questions and all that stuff.
[3301] But again, we will also in the future do classic -ass TNT.
[3302] That format is not going away entirely.
[3303] We just want some damn variety.
[3304] On that note.
[3305] So, yeah, Thursday, 4 p .m. Pacific Time, Dead Island.
[3306] Come watch it.
[3307] It'll be fun.
[3308] I promise.
[3309] And with that, BombCast is done.
[3310] Thank you, guys.
[3311] Thank you.
[3312] And thank you guys for listening.
[3313] And come back next Tuesday for another edition of the Giant BombCast.
