Giant Bombcast XX
[0] I didn't know what I was doing, but he knew where he was going just fine.
[1] So we started a podcast.
[2] I got drunk on paint thinner.
[3] Then I gave him a microphone.
[4] And he went something like this.
[5] Hey, everybody.
[6] What's up?
[7] It's the Giant Bomb Cast.
[8] Still your only source for news and information from the world of video games.
[9] It is April 11th, 2011, and I am Jeff Gerstman.
[10] You're hosting.
[11] And I'm hosting.
[12] Look at you.
[13] You had to do an intro.
[14] That's right.
[15] So I'm here with Dave Snyder.
[16] I'm here.
[17] I showed up.
[18] I walked, I think, three meters from – it's not really an office.
[19] What is it?
[20] What's a meter?
[21] A desk.
[22] That's like 17 feet.
[23] It's a measurement for music.
[24] Oh, like five bars?
[25] Yeah, exactly.
[26] You walk seven bars?
[27] Yeah.
[28] Go to the first ending?
[29] It's like 12 drinks.
[30] That's where I'm at right now.
[31] Okay.
[32] Twelve drinks in and you're just kind of waiting for the coda so you can kind of go back to your desk and walk over here.
[33] Yeah, of course.
[34] Okay.
[35] And Vinny Caravella.
[36] Hey, man. So this is the giant bomb cast, right?
[37] It got – invited me here to talk on a microphone.
[38] Yeah.
[39] All right.
[40] When is that eShop open?
[41] Late May. All right.
[42] Let's do this thing.
[43] Late May. Okay.
[44] So not yet.
[45] Not yet.
[46] I've been hurt before.
[47] God, I know.
[48] And you know what?
[49] I think we're all going to be hurt again when the eShop finally launches.
[50] Scars are just about to heal.
[51] Where the hell is everybody?
[52] Why am I here?
[53] Brad is out on assignment.
[54] Really?
[55] Yeah.
[56] Don't you love that?
[57] Does he get like a special hat when he does that?
[58] Yeah.
[59] We have one of these hats.
[60] It's a press card.
[61] Right in the band.
[62] So he is out.
[63] He's got all my flashbulbs.
[64] He flew away on a plane with all of Vinny's flashbulbs to see some upcoming video games.
[65] And we'll hear more about those next week, I think.
[66] Do you take Ryan with him?
[67] No, Ryan is somewhere else.
[68] Is he also on assignment?
[69] No hat, though.
[70] Yes, Ryan and Drew are away on assignment.
[71] It's way too professional for us.
[72] We only have one hat though.
[73] So it's kind of like we gave it to Brad because I think he looks the best when he wears it.
[74] Are you saying you guys need virtual hat technology so that you can split it over?
[75] We need the hats to be in the cloud basically.
[76] We need cloud hats.
[77] Cloud hats.
[78] Sounds like something Mario would wear.
[79] Yeah.
[80] No. No, that's good.
[81] That's good, yeah.
[82] Yeah, you put on the cloud hat and he can float down like with the raccoon tail, but he can't fly.
[83] And then he can make people dizzy with flashbulbs.
[84] Yeah.
[85] Does that mean that he's actually the rain himself if he's under the cloud?
[86] Oh, man. Does that mean like when Mario pees, it rains through the world?
[87] It's Nintendo.
[88] He never pees.
[89] The rain is Mario crying.
[90] Yep.
[91] Yeah.
[92] Everyone knows that.
[93] Sounds about right.
[94] Level 10 too.
[95] Yeah.
[96] And it's a good thing that they are out this week because I was out most of last week on assignments.
[97] Wearing the hat.
[98] I was out wearing the hat.
[99] Yeah.
[100] Now you're back.
[101] Yeah.
[102] I'm back and we'll get into some of that a little later.
[103] But first I want to know, Vinny, what video games have you been engaged with in the past seven days?
[104] Well, let me tell you.
[105] I went back.
[106] It's kind of weird.
[107] It just happened to happen this way.
[108] I went back and I started playing a bunch of old games because there are a bunch of new games coming out.
[109] Now bear with me. Okay.
[110] I played Alice.
[111] What?
[112] The original?
[113] Yeah.
[114] Wow.
[115] And by play it, I mean installed it, got through like maybe half of the first levels.
[116] I can't play this anymore.
[117] It's tough.
[118] And remember how cool looking that game looked when it came out?
[119] It looks – the cut scenes are cool.
[120] But man, no. I have not played Alice, and the reason I didn't play it is because everything about it looked terrible to me when it was originally released.
[121] Colored lighting, man. That was its big deal.
[122] It had tons and tons of colored lighting.
[123] It's a really rough game.
[124] Yeah, it's not.
[125] It doesn't control well.
[126] It's like, yeah.
[127] But it was that weird time where everybody was taking first -person engines and making them into third -person games along with Heavy Metal Fact 2.
[128] So none of them are well thought of.
[129] Was it Heretic 2 that was a third -person game?
[130] Yeah, Heretic 2.
[131] Or was it Hexen 2?
[132] No, Heretic 2.
[133] You've got it right.
[134] That was the first, I think, of the bunch.
[135] And there was Heavy Metal Fact 2.
[136] God, Heavy Metal Fact 2.
[137] Yeah, Fact 2, man. Julie Strange.
[138] Yeah, that's right.
[139] What are you talking about?
[140] What did FAC stand for?
[141] Something.
[142] Kids in Satan's Service, right?
[143] Yeah.
[144] No. That's right.
[145] I'm thinking of Kiss Psycho Circus.
[146] But it came out around Heavy Metal 2000 time, I think.
[147] Yeah.
[148] For people that don't know of the Heavy Metal, it's the magazine.
[149] And I told you guys, I was very much – I almost considered buying an entire run of Heavy Metal.
[150] Wow.
[151] And then I realized, you know what?
[152] It's not that far from porn.
[153] Like I'm then just having like – and it's not even like real porn.
[154] It's like fake porn.
[155] Well, you don't want to have to hide something when you have people over.
[156] I just – I like fantasy art. You guys see my desktop when I'm coming over.
[157] There's a dragon or some lady.
[158] It's in your Kindle.
[159] Or sometimes there's a lady on a dragon.
[160] Yeah.
[161] I even hacked my Kindle so that I could have elves or fantasy stuff so that I can recreate the embarrassment that I have anytime that I go on a public transportation system.
[162] But yeah.
[163] Didn't do it.
[164] Well, so I watched the – I was looking at the Ask Me Anything we did for Alice, the Madness Returns.
[165] And I'm kind of glad a lot of the madness stayed behind and the good madness seems to be returning because Madness Returns looks awesome.
[166] Like from that Ask Me Anything, the footage of the hair, the graphics, the combat even looks way better.
[167] You go back and you check out some original Alice and man. She and a looker.
[168] Everything is like – I think that game didn't come out as long ago as it looks like it came out.
[169] That game like what?
[170] Like early 2000s?
[171] Was it Quake 3 or Quake 2 engine?
[172] I can't – I want to say it was 2.
[173] 2.
[174] It was definitely one of the early ones.
[175] Man, it looks early.
[176] Anyway, so I played through some of that just to kind of get a feel, and I think I've just about seen enough.
[177] Maybe I'll play a little bit more.
[178] It was a hard game to install.
[179] 2000.
[180] 2000?
[181] Okay.
[182] All right.
[183] It might look about 2000.
[184] And so then on that train, I played Crisis, the original Crisis.
[185] Now, that game came out in 2007.
[186] And still looks great.
[187] That game is the best -looking game out there still, right now, today.
[188] Federation -assigned.
[189] Ketogenic Killzone.
[190] Two.
[191] What's the two part for?
[192] Why is it Heavy Metal Fact?
[193] Oh, it's squared?
[194] Yeah, so kill motherfucking Depeche Mode.
[195] Yep.
[196] Okay.
[197] And you can get the Fac Axe.
[198] God, that game was horrible.
[199] The Madness Returns, Fac 3.
[200] Terrible.
[201] Terrible, terrible game.
[202] I never played it.
[203] It had, like, all the winnings of a...
[204] weird game.
[205] Like, Level Lord worked on it.
[206] That was also the year 2000.
[207] Yeah, because it was Heavy Metal 2000.
[208] It came out, like, at the same time, and I think the Heavy Metal dude is, like, married to Julie Strange somehow, and, you know, what else are you going to do?
[209] That would make sense.
[210] Then put your wife in a video game.
[211] You know what else came out in 2000?
[212] Kiss Psycho Circus.
[213] Now, that game, also not great.
[214] That was Lit Tech, though, wasn't it?
[215] I think so.
[216] Yeah.
[217] Yeah.
[218] All these gathering of developers hits.
[219] The industry has moved on.
[220] Yeah, sort of.
[221] So Crisis.
[222] Yeah, Crisis 1.
[223] Back to something new.
[224] Yeah.
[225] It's amazing.
[226] As I was playing through it.
[227] No One Lives Forever.
[228] The Operative.
[229] Let's talk about it.
[230] Yeah, that game is fantastic.
[231] Oh, NOLF.
[232] Yeah, NOLF.
[233] What about Combat Jack?
[234] No One Lives Forever.
[235] That came out later on.
[236] Had to.
[237] That was 98?
[238] Yeah.
[239] Geez, really?
[240] Yeah.
[241] I shouldn't go back to that then.
[242] No, not Combat Jack.
[243] What was the name of the?
[244] Combat Jack was the one that came after No One Lives Forever 2, I believe.
[245] The one where it was about being like one of the minions or something.
[246] Weird game.
[247] Was it called Combat Jack?
[248] I think it was something Jack.
[249] And it was like J -A -C -K, right?
[250] Like the same way that Noel was.
[251] I think it was something along those lines.
[252] Contract Jack.
[253] Contract Jack.
[254] Combat Jack, though.
[255] That'd be way cooler.
[256] Yeah, that's like the Russian attack version of the game.
[257] That's like Violence Jack.
[258] Yeah.
[259] Either that or it's like the drugs that you need to keep going.
[260] I got to get that Combat Jack, man, and get back out there.
[261] That's the guy they added in Tekken 5.
[262] I'm sorry.
[263] NOLF is totally 2000 as well.
[264] Yeah.
[265] Wow.
[266] A retro.
[267] There's like a lot of really weird shooters.
[268] It's like we're kind of like back at that point right now where everyone's just pumping out.
[269] shooters all over the place, but now they're just all like Call of Duty.
[270] Instead of all being weird and dumb in their own way.
[271] Not that Alice was really a shooter.
[272] No, definitely not.
[273] What was the Raven one released last year?
[274] Singularity.
[275] Sin Episodes.
[276] Because that one kind of reminded me of those old school style.
[277] What's happening?
[278] What is this weapon I have?
[279] Actually, I was kind of a fan of it.
[280] Singularity was pretty good.
[281] I liked it.
[282] It was good.
[283] Are we still talking about crisis?
[284] Are we moving up to 2007?
[285] We're going up to 2002 now.
[286] So yeah, crisis is kind of unbelievable.
[287] And I kind of went back to it now that my computer can run it finally.
[288] Here we are in 2011.
[289] It really does.
[290] It really looks way beyond anything you would have seen in the last four years.
[291] If only PC gaming would have continued to be a major threat.
[292] It's incredible.
[293] I just kept looking at it being like, what is going – Did just like Crysis come out and then everyone else packed it in?
[294] All right.
[295] Well, I think Crysis must have come out and they had made a decision.
[296] We're going to make Crysis.
[297] We're going to do DX10 and like – That's it.
[298] And then everybody was like, nobody can run this, dude.
[299] We're going to go make console games.
[300] Yeah.
[301] And then they're like, well, we're not.
[302] And then they said, well, we are.
[303] And then they made Crisis 2, which is I guess – This all just ties into my grand theory that – The PC developers won the war against the console developers, but by winning the war, they all just went to go make console games.
[304] Kind of.
[305] And drove all of the old console developers out, or at least into the backseat.
[306] It's crazy that I'm looking forward to games looking as good as the game did in 2007.
[307] That's what blows my mind.
[308] Man, A, these consoles are pretty old.
[309] They're aging.
[310] But they were aging in 2007, so now I'm not even excited for the next generation of consoles.
[311] Like, fuck.
[312] And also, like, yes, where are the good -looking PC games?
[313] They're not having anymore because, like, I've been playing a lot of Shift recently or Shift 2.
[314] Yeah.
[315] I guess it's not Need for – it's just Shift 2.
[316] Shift 2 Unleashed.
[317] Sure.
[318] And then there's a Need for Speed logo on the box.
[319] So I've been playing that, and I have it, like, fully cranked up.
[320] You know, the first Shift was okay.
[321] It was all – you know, it was whatever.
[322] But playing this one definitely can tell.
[323] It's like, yeah, this game looks all right, but you can definitely tell it is a – console, you know, sort of made game for.
[324] It has its roots in a. Yeah, it just has like the same sort of those weird blur effects that you get to obscure everything that you get in like a 360 game, which is, you know, it's fine.
[325] But I think that's kind of what's happened is when you get the PC games, maybe you'll get, you know, much higher resolution or, you know, a little bit different with some of the effects.
[326] But for the most part, like they're, if they're not.
[327] big, huge releases like at Crisis 2 where people sort of expect stuff, you're just going to get a couple different toggles.
[328] And from a business perspective, why wouldn't they do that?
[329] If they're selling the majority of their copies on 360, at what point?
[330] How many more copies are they selling on the PC if they go put in all that extra work?
[331] It totally makes sense.
[332] But at the same time, you want that game to come out that you can't play yet.
[333] Well, kind of.
[334] The flip side of that coin is I had to wait four years to play freaking Crisis because that's – I don't want to play the game unless you can max it on.
[335] Did you then play it and go like, wait, this actually isn't that fun?
[336] No. It was pretty much what everybody had said.
[337] It was like, oh, it's just okay.
[338] It's cool.
[339] And like the back half kind of lags a bit.
[340] I had played it when it originally came out and got kind of bored and got frustrated because I couldn't max it out and nothing could at the time.
[341] And now – I was able to do it kind of smoothly.
[342] And then I started playing Crisis Ward, and then I got burned out.
[343] And I was like, all right.
[344] And then I was like, oh, maybe I'll play Crisis 2 now.
[345] And then I went on the forums, and I was looking around, and they were like, yeah, I think we're going to put out a DX11 patch.
[346] Yeah, they finally came forward and said, hey, they kind of had been dicey about it for a while.
[347] Over the weekend, I guess they came out and said, yeah, we're going to do a DX11 patch, even though everyone's already probably finished the game who's going to play it by now on the PC.
[348] Well, there's me sitting there being like, eh.
[349] No?
[350] Maybe in 2014.
[351] I don't know.
[352] Crisis 2.
[353] But that company, you know what?
[354] Even Far Cry, the original Far Cry, still looks great.
[355] I haven't gone back to Far Cry in a long time.
[356] Far Cry still plays great.
[357] Lion's Shirt in 2011.
[358] It's still one of those games you open up and you can just see forever.
[359] What is it about Far Cry that you really like?
[360] Because it's just...
[361] It never clicked with me ever.
[362] I think it was the...
[363] Crisis 1, same deal.
[364] I think it was the first first -person shooter that I can remember that did the open -world stuff really well.
[365] And it had its mission -to -mission kind of stuff, but the first time you played it, you just kind of thought that's the way that you were supposed to play it, and then you realized in a couple different playthroughs that you just go wherever you want in that game, and it totally worked out, and you could snipe from forever away, and it just had a freedom level that...
[366] Kind of wasn't around.
[367] And I think also at the time that thing came out, nobody did water the way that that game did water.
[368] And you were just like, wait, what?
[369] The waves are moving?
[370] It's not just like a texture map.
[371] Team Fortress where I just put in a voodoo card and I can now see through the water.
[372] Yeah, I was impressed visually of that game.
[373] I totally got lost though.
[374] Too much too soon for me. I'm running around the jungle and I walk into a guy's shoe and then I'm dead and I'm not really sure where I'm supposed to go.
[375] What is my objective here?
[376] Eventually I got it.
[377] I think that was my problem with it is that it felt a little too loose in that regard.
[378] I'd be on my knees crawling up to a checkpoint or something and suddenly I'd literally crawl into a dude's knees and be like, ah, shit.
[379] You wanted more of a Viet Cong experience?
[380] Yeah.
[381] Still in the jungle, but, you know, lead, you know, a little bit on your way.
[382] A little purple haze.
[383] Yes.
[384] I want all games to play.
[385] This is what happens when you guys invite me in.
[386] We just started talking about ten years ago.
[387] Right.
[388] Yeah.
[389] The last time you played a lot of video games.
[390] Yeah, sure.
[391] Why not?
[392] So you spent your whole weekend playing through Crysis?
[393] I really did.
[394] I played through the entire game of Crysis in basically two sittings.
[395] I played some Dragon Age 2 as well.
[396] Got them back in there.
[397] How's that going?
[398] It's the same, same.
[399] Still trucking along.
[400] Still chopping dudes in half and making bad choices.
[401] I'll finish that game.
[402] Moving along.
[403] And that's about it.
[404] Really Crysis.
[405] One took up most of my time.
[406] I feel like there was something else I was done.
[407] Oh, I played some Mortal Kombat demo.
[408] That was fun.
[409] I saw it on the PlayStation Store.
[410] I was like, I never downloaded this.
[411] And I was like, I'm going to download this while I finish Crysis.
[412] And then played that.
[413] So yeah, that was kind of it.
[414] It was really sad to say it was mostly Crysis.
[415] Well, you know, whatever.
[416] Now I'm caught up.
[417] I'm ready.
[418] Yeah, now you're ready for the super clear events of Crysis 2 that just tie right into those Crysis 1 events.
[419] It just picks up like minutes later, right?
[420] Exactly, yeah.
[421] Totally explains itself.
[422] The story is a key component.
[423] Yeah, you're going to really enjoy Crysis 2 because you played Crysis 1.
[424] I feel like I've got – this is it.
[425] This is my last week to clear up all – tie up all those loose ends before games really start coming out in force next week.
[426] But then it's – I mean it's just next week.
[427] It's not like the week after that there's more.
[428] I got to play through every Mortal Kombat game.
[429] Make sure I'm up to stuff on the story.
[430] Every SOCOM, make sure the story thread's all tied together.
[431] Every portal.
[432] Every single portal.
[433] I got to go through the whole entire, up to two.
[434] I'll probably stop right before two.
[435] Good call.
[436] Do you have your six -button Genesis controller ready?
[437] For Mortal Kombat?
[438] Yeah.
[439] Oh, man. Maybe.
[440] I don't think I own that anymore.
[441] I think I got rid of it.
[442] I never liked that controller.
[443] Actually, I like the buttons on it.
[444] I loved it.
[445] It's one of my favorites.
[446] The six -button Genesis controller?
[447] They're real kind of mushy in there, yeah.
[448] They're real loose D -pad on that thing, but I think it worked well for it.
[449] For the fighting games that it was mostly used for.
[450] It made rolls great.
[451] It's kind of funny how controllers, sometimes people talk about them almost like old guitars or something like, yeah, you know, the 93 Genesis.
[452] They had a roll on it that they didn't.
[453] They don't really make it like that.
[454] They did a reissue, but it was never the same.
[455] The Japanese Saturn pads were the best ones.
[456] The cream color was real nice.
[457] You can find yourself an original, man. Don't accept anything else.
[458] You can get those ASCII fight pads they did for the Dreamcast.
[459] Those are pretty good, too, but they don't have both controller slots, so I don't think you can put a rumble pack and a VMU in it at the same time.
[460] That was it for me. That's my hand.
[461] You've been playing Shift 2.
[462] I've been playing Shift 2.
[463] I don't know.
[464] I had, like, all these choices.
[465] It was, you know, like Shogun 2.
[466] Have you touched that at all?
[467] I downloaded it, but to be honest, I haven't had, like, the 20 hours that you need to to, like, really dive deep into it.
[468] I mostly have sat and watched Mike Corn play a whole lot of it.
[469] And it looks great.
[470] Like, it does.
[471] That game looks awesome.
[472] It looks like they fixed a lot of the stuff that...
[473] people didn't like about the last two and the bigger one is that it's not muskets anymore you know like that really changed the strategy of the last two games where you'd have to just really really wait up and sort of line your shots and now it's back to a lot more melee battles throw guys yeah you know it's more about you know positioning and stuff where before you really just had to get that first barrage out are there tactics and not tactics are there Is there diplomacy in this?
[474] There is.
[475] The cooler thing that they've done over the last two games, which is really neat, is they've made the multiplayer stuff really kind of cool where you'll play the main campaign and as you do the battles in the main single -player campaign, you just say, I'd like to play a human opponent.
[476] And it will hook you up and it will play sort of on that battlefield and you can play it out that way.
[477] The other cool thing is it will keep a separate map for your multiplayer.
[478] So you're leveling up and sort of progressing through Japan in a separate sort of universe where you're opening up.
[479] It's kind of got an unlock system, but it's through sort of a tree -based kind of thing.
[480] It's actually really neat for an RTS game.
[481] If you like those type of games and you don't mind the sort of craziness of learning one of those types of games, then it's great.
[482] So that's a game that is never going to come to a console.
[483] Never.
[484] Never.
[485] How come those games don't knock your socks off crazy?
[486] Shogun 2 looks pretty good.
[487] I guess because they have so much stuff going on.
[488] I think most of those games don't look good because...
[489] strategy games don't necessarily need to look good.
[490] It could just be blocks.
[491] Make the white triangle, attack the red octagon.
[492] Games that always looked great were always big action games.
[493] They're, for better or worse, the blockbusters of the video game world.
[494] That's no different on the PC than it is on consoles.
[495] It's kind of disappointing to pick up something like Shift 2 and be like...
[496] You think you're going to get it.
[497] Are you playing it with a wheel?
[498] Are you playing shift game with a wheel?
[499] How's it working out?
[500] How's your shift thing?
[501] The shift games are weird.
[502] They don't set up the wheel by default.
[503] They're really, really, really loose versus other games.
[504] So they're fine once you go and fiddle with the controls a lot.
[505] But I feel that you don't necessarily need to do that in something like an Xbox game or in a Codemasters game.
[506] They just kind of work.
[507] Right.
[508] Where the Shift series, you definitely – Wheel is kind of like an afterthought with their series where with the Codemasters guys, they're like, no, Dirt 2, we are going to make this game like you are playing this on a wheel.
[509] Well, it's like the Shift games seem like they were just kind of invented out of this weird need to compete with like Forza and Gran Turismo to some extent.
[510] Yeah, which is funny.
[511] They don't feel – I haven't played a ton of Shift 2 but I did review Shift 1 and it just felt like it wasn't even in the same league.
[512] It's like a real console -based driving simulator.
[513] I think the term that racing fans like to use with the Shift series is buttery.
[514] Is that good or bad?
[515] It's bad.
[516] It's basically that you just – you don't – The nice thing about something like GTA V or about a dirt series is that you feel that physics.
[517] Like as you will make a turn to the right, you can feel yourself kind of slipping out a little bit.
[518] With the wheel.
[519] Yeah, but also – Just the little bit of adjustments.
[520] Not only just the wheel but just the actual feeling.
[521] Where the other ones – and it's hard.
[522] It's hard to describe.
[523] It's like talking about headphones.
[524] Racing fans are kind of nuts with that kind of stuff.
[525] It's like talking about controllers and game pads.
[526] The Shift series has never felt – all that great the other weird thing with that game is you have to race a shitload before you start getting new cars and like that's a bummer to me like when you you know it's cool i like progression i like you know having to level yourself up so that you get places but that game you're definitely putting in i want to say like 15 races before you're in a different car than the first one you bought which is kind of tough and it also starts you out on those super kind of technical courses which I don't know.
[527] It's not necessarily the best thing.
[528] You think a lot of people are still playing Gran Turismo?
[529] Yeah.
[530] Yeah?
[531] Absolutely.
[532] Have you jumped back in?
[533] Yeah, I played it.
[534] And there's always races going on?
[535] There's nothing else like it on the PlayStation 3.
[536] Even by default.
[537] People who like that type of game, that is that type of game for that system.
[538] Just like there's nothing like Forza on 360 and people play that one.
[539] That's true.
[540] I wonder how sales did on Gran Turismo.
[541] I bet they did really good out of the gate.
[542] kind of fell off a little bit.
[543] If I had to guess.
[544] I'd say that that genre is probably not as big as it used to be.
[545] That's definitely true.
[546] I imagine that's a game that probably did just fine in Europe and Japan where Sony still is king in a lot of cases.
[547] You think there's a new one being worked on as we speak?
[548] Gran Turismo?
[549] I imagine they're still working on updates for GT5.
[550] They always said it was going to be a big progression, big DLC game.
[551] And they have released stuff for that.
[552] game not necessarily like paid dlc but they've been patching it and fixing stuff um over since its release their racing platform yeah more or less when you can watch like top gear races or something in that thing like they have video yeah all that stuff sucks yeah yeah like pay -per -view video yeah stuff that's exactly what i want to do why would i go to youtube when i could pay three dollars per video oh you have to buy it yeah oh yeah Not pay -per -view.
[553] Pay -per -view.
[554] Some of it's like rental.
[555] Yeah.
[556] It's pretty silly.
[557] What do I know from racing games?
[558] Yeah.
[559] They're fun.
[560] Push the gas button.
[561] Yeah.
[562] Nice thing about racing games is pretty much like any other sort of strategy game.
[563] It's like you just have to spend a lot of time with it to get good at it.
[564] That's why I like them.
[565] And having a wheel, it's kind of nice having a feedback in a video game that's not something you get normal.
[566] Did you see the Forza 4 trailer?
[567] It leaked out, I guess.
[568] It was never officially released, but it came out on the first.
[569] So there were some people that were like, this is an April Fool's thing.
[570] But it's like no one's going to create a trailer for a game that doesn't have enough footage out there for people to fake a trailer.
[571] So did it stick around?
[572] Is it still around?
[573] I think it might be still around, but it had like for internal use only kind of emblazoned across it and stuff.
[574] So it looks like some kind of marketing video or something.
[575] It shows a lot of the stuff that they showed back at E3 with like the Kinect, like use the Kinect to open doors and walk around cars and stuff.
[576] So that made it look legit.
[577] But then it also showed the racing and it looked pretty damn good.
[578] Yeah.
[579] It's tough when they start fiddling too much with the immersion stuff.
[580] Like Shift 2 has that weird helmet cam stuff in it, which is great.
[581] Like if you can get used to it.
[582] But the bad part is that it essentially makes you think that you're turning.
[583] When you're not because your eyes will look to the left, right?
[584] So you don't necessarily – you don't get enough feedback because you can't like feel the car move necessarily.
[585] Yeah, it's buttery.
[586] It's a little buttery.
[587] Yeah.
[588] So that was one of the things that I thought would be really cool about it because I'm normally a cockpit driver, but I immediately switched out of that.
[589] Luckily, they have just a regular generic cockpit mode, which works fine.
[590] All right.
[591] Maybe you can sell me on this.
[592] Maybe you can help me wrap my mind around this as well.
[593] We're just going to deconstruct.
[594] racing games yeah uh cockpit view what's the appeal of having like something in the way that prevents you from seeing like about half of the screen to me uh the bigger thing is when you are driving in cockpit mode you're actually turning a lot more so the if you actually think of the movement that you're moving right from what i've always noticed the actual your rate think of it as a wheel right your radius of movement yeah is much higher than if you were in an outside view where it's kind of twitchy.
[595] So you'd oversteer on the outside?
[596] With Racing Sims, I play from the bumper or whatever.
[597] I play basically the first -person view, so I still get the gauge that says how fast I'm going.
[598] I still get the rearview mirror, but I actually get to see all of the road.
[599] That seems like the most effective way to play.
[600] I guess it's an immersion thing for me. I like racing games because they look cool and I like the distinction when I'm buying different cars.
[601] It's like saying like, oh, you don't get to see – you just change your avatar.
[602] Imagine like an MMO game that you played in first person.
[603] Yeah, you could.
[604] You could totally play it in first person but then you don't get to see all the cool shit you put on yourself.
[605] So it's Murlocs is why you play it from cockpit views because you get sweet pets.
[606] I want a drivable Murloc if I could.
[607] All right.
[608] But it's definitely – it's an immersion thing.
[609] But I think that's why a lot of people play instead of playing the weird third -person view.
[610] OK.
[611] Yeah, I used to try to play Racing Sims from the third -person view and eventually evolved to the point where I can't really do that anymore.
[612] If you play it like – yeah, and if you play it in something like Dirt 2 where if you crash the car, it's cracking windshields and stuff.
[613] Like that makes the game neat like today.
[614] Yeah, that can be pretty cool.
[615] Anything else that you've been playing?
[616] No, I got – I was kayaking and I lost my iPhone in – You can see my Twitter.
[617] There's this really cool, like, look at me. I'm on a kayak.
[618] There's San Francisco.
[619] And then I got a bunch of these messages that were like, are you a fucking idiot?
[620] And then it turns out, yes, I am a fucking idiot.
[621] Because like 10 minutes later, I was totally in the water with my iPhone.
[622] Wait, you flipped over?
[623] Yeah.
[624] Oh, no. Yeah.
[625] So then I'm, you know, first of all.
[626] Extremely happy that I was able to get back in because it's like one of those sea kayaks that it's like tough to get back in.
[627] Didn't die of pneumonia.
[628] Was it cold?
[629] Yeah, it was fucking freezing.
[630] It's goddamn San Francisco.
[631] Was it wet?
[632] Yeah.
[633] How wet was it?
[634] Keep talking.
[635] So I picked up Android.
[636] Wait, so did you drop the phone or did it just get soaked?
[637] No, it was in my life preserve because I was like, man, I've been on this.
[638] I've been out here a bunch.
[639] Like when the fuck would I ever fall over?
[640] So it just got soaked.
[641] Yeah.
[642] I went – it was in my – I still have it and then it was like seawater and then I was like – So it never – it didn't dry out and start working again at some point?
[643] I didn't give it that kind of time.
[644] I was just like – I need a phone.
[645] I need to tweet right now.
[646] Yeah.
[647] I just got back in my kayak.
[648] Yeah.
[649] Yeah, exactly.
[650] So what are you rocking?
[651] So I just moved.
[652] I moved to that Atrix thing all the tested cats we're talking about.
[653] That's it?
[654] You're on it?
[655] Yeah.
[656] I just wanted to move away from the iPhone stuff.
[657] I've been really tired of – Not so much the iPhone but iTunes.
[658] Like all their crazy, you know, this is not a music player.
[659] This is a store concept stuff.
[660] So this is a lot more like a little Linux browser again or a Linux OS.
[661] So I can just tweak the hell out of it, which is kind of fun.
[662] But I'm sure it will get old.
[663] Yeah.
[664] You know, same as everything else.
[665] My phone hardly works anymore.
[666] Yeah?
[667] What happened?
[668] It's just my little 3G just.
[669] Man, the thing doesn't run.
[670] You know, I heard that Zora Juicy.
[671] What is Zora Juicy?
[672] Zora Juicy.
[673] Yeah, Zora Juicy.
[674] I heard that they're making a phone.
[675] Oh, God.
[676] Yeah.
[677] How would they make a phone?
[678] Because it stays hot for hours.
[679] Hey, I heard they sold out of our.
[680] Somebody sent me a tweet.
[681] They're like, they're back in stock.
[682] The thermoses?
[683] Yeah.
[684] I hate this.
[685] Our business guy needs to be on this.
[686] Why would Zojirushi pay?
[687] Did you also see – Yeah.
[688] But did you see the related products where it was like deadly premonition?
[689] Right.
[690] No sense.
[691] What world are we living in?
[692] They're both fantastic Japanese products.
[693] I guess so.
[694] Sure.
[695] People know quality.
[696] Yeah.
[697] Whatever.
[698] When people get that thing and realize it only holds 17 ounces, they're all going to be sorely disappointed.
[699] Talking about Deadly Premonition?
[700] Yeah.
[701] Yeah.
[702] That's always a budget title.
[703] Yeah, you know.
[704] What have you been playing?
[705] So I went on a trip last week to see Capcom's upcoming lineup while I was out on assignment to see a batch of games from them.
[706] I guess about seven games in all.
[707] Some playable, some not.
[708] And, yeah, they made a couple announcements.
[709] What's up with Miami?
[710] Yeah, I was in Miami.
[711] How's that going?
[712] It seemed kind of – It was in Miami?
[713] Yeah.
[714] That's weird.
[715] I had never been to Miami.
[716] Well, it's weird until you realize that they're like – that people from all over the world are coming in.
[717] So they try to find a place that makes sense for multiple regions.
[718] So – They did it in Hawaii last year, so the people flying in from Japan didn't have as long of a flight, but the people in Europe were screwed.
[719] So Miami, the people flying in from Europe do it okay.
[720] The people from Japan end up traveling for 24 hours or whatever.
[721] Did you eat any plantains?
[722] No, I didn't.
[723] I have eaten plantains before.
[724] Just not in Miami.
[725] But just not in Miami.
[726] Miami was a little...
[727] Grimy?
[728] It's dirty.
[729] It's dirty.
[730] Yeah.
[731] No offense, people.
[732] Well, I guess I've already lost that.
[733] But the humidity is the big thing that I always think of when I get – like I just remember always getting out of a plane and then immediately just feel like I'm sweating.
[734] Well, yeah, because you are.
[735] Yeah.
[736] And it was raining when we landed.
[737] So it was like hot rain, which I thought was fun.
[738] That's just Mario crying.
[739] Yeah.
[740] Hot Mario tears.
[741] Yeah.
[742] Yeah, I don't know.
[743] Miami did not blow me away.
[744] Granted, I was pretty much staying near a conference center so we could see video games and didn't really get out to see much of anything else.
[745] So I didn't necessarily get all touristy and stuff.
[746] But we were staying right on A1A.
[747] Beachfront Avenue?
[748] Yeah.
[749] Now you know what the last four days of my life were like.
[750] Because look at the sign and go, oh, that's like that Vanilla Ice song.
[751] Great.
[752] Great.
[753] Were the girlies on standby?
[754] No. Well.
[755] Were they waiting just to say hi?
[756] Not to me. But there was a. So, OK.
[757] So before we talk about games, the last night that I was there, the fire alarm went off at 3 .30 in the morning.
[758] OK.
[759] And you got out?
[760] Yeah.
[761] See, when that happens, no. You just stay in your room?
[762] Yeah.
[763] Don't they do room checks?
[764] No. This is like filling out census.
[765] It's one of those group communication things.
[766] I've never had it happen in a hotel before, so I was super confused.
[767] So for starters, I was asleep.
[768] So I jump up and there's this...
[769] I couldn't figure out what it was.
[770] The blinking strobe lights in the halls?
[771] For like 20 seconds.
[772] In the halls, yeah.
[773] In the room, no. So it's just siren noise.
[774] And it's kind of in the direction of my laptop.
[775] So I'm like, is my laptop freaking out?
[776] Would I leave some kind of streaming audio on?
[777] Time to go.
[778] What's going on?
[779] Miami, waking up.
[780] There you go.
[781] Air horns.
[782] So then a voice came on and said, fire alarm, whatever, you should get out of the building.
[783] So I decided I should put on some clothes.
[784] And then went, oh, wait, I should probably get my phone.
[785] And oh, wait, I should probably put on shoes.
[786] And then kind of stepped out of the house.
[787] of the hallway and there were a bunch of people up and down the hallway kind of looking out, also unsure about what to do.
[788] And one guy was like, I don't know where the exit is.
[789] I was like, there's one right there.
[790] It's on the door.
[791] There's one right there, one right there.
[792] Don't they have the sign on the door?
[793] Well, there were people there who were not from the United States.
[794] But it's a picture.
[795] It's like that around the world.
[796] Anyway, it was 3 .30 in the morning.
[797] So cut that guy some slack.
[798] So I decided I'm going to go downstairs.
[799] It turns out there's a nightclub in this place.
[800] Cool.
[801] Yeah, there is.
[802] It's Miami.
[803] Why wouldn't there be?
[804] Which explains why, through the entire trip, all I could hear was...
[805] Was it the sound machine?
[806] Yeah, I believe the sound machine was there.
[807] Lisa Lisa and Colton also were playing.
[808] So I'm getting down there, and they're kind of getting people out of the club.
[809] And I'm just kind of standing there in shorts and a t -shirt and shoes.
[810] Trying to figure out what the hell is going on.
[811] And I walk up to one of the bouncers who's like super confused to see me and isn't sure what to do.
[812] And I'm like, so are we evacuating?
[813] Like what should I do?
[814] He's like, stand over here.
[815] All right, whatever.
[816] So I end up walking outside.
[817] And people are leaving the club and getting into cars and stuff.
[818] And it's just like the worst people.
[819] Did you have a teddy bear with you?
[820] I did not.
[821] I did not.
[822] I probably looked bad.
[823] I probably looked like.
[824] You know, I'd seen some better days or whatever.
[825] But so it's just like a bunch of girls in like tight dresses and like really just like.
[826] awesome scummy looking dudes with fake tans and stuff getting out there.
[827] And there's a girl from Jersey with her friend talking to this guy who had what sounded like a fake French accent.
[828] Yeah.
[829] And, and, and she asked him, what are the, your dancing's really good.
[830] What do they think you're dancing in Paris?
[831] And at that point I was just like fucking loose.
[832] And I was like, is this even happening anymore?
[833] Like, like what is going on?
[834] Oh, I know the good answer.
[835] Practically.
[836] That's practically what was coming out of this dude's mouth.
[837] And I was like, man, he's getting over.
[838] That's great.
[839] This is good for him.
[840] But I don't necessarily believe that that accent was for real.
[841] Because it was pretty bad.
[842] And then I realized like no one else from this event is down there.
[843] Because they were sleeping?
[844] Apparently, as it turns out, some people were still out.
[845] There was – like the last night there, a bunch of people went out for like karaoke or something.
[846] But you were on assignment.
[847] So you had gone to bed.
[848] I was on assignment.
[849] So I did some writing and then – and told myself like, oh, I'll get some stuff done because I had some paperwork I had to finish up.
[850] And then maybe I'll go meet guys later.
[851] And then instead I laid down and that was that.
[852] Then Miami wouldn't let you sleep.
[853] Yeah, exactly.
[854] You ain't sleeping.
[855] Exactly.
[856] And then as it turns out, the alarm only went off on a couple of floors.
[857] Oh, wow.
[858] See, I just don't trust alarms in hotels.
[859] I ended up standing out there for like 45 minutes and started freaking out going like, man, I sure hope that everyone else that came to this event isn't on fire somewhere.
[860] It's like, oh, I guess I'll have hot exclusive scoops if they do.
[861] And it turns out most of them were still out, and then most of them were on floors that didn't have the fire alarm, I guess.
[862] You're the hottest scoop.
[863] That's right.
[864] You are very pretty girls, both of you.
[865] And he says, like, what about your friend?
[866] And referring to some other, it was two girls.
[867] She doesn't speak Francais.
[868] And the girl goes, forget about friends.
[869] This is Miami.
[870] Like she had a craneshot.
[871] Kind of, yeah.
[872] Threw some confetti up in the air.
[873] It sounded like someone who had never been on vacation before and was going to, like, sex their way through town as hard as possible.
[874] And then just these local dudes were going to put on fake French accents and just pick them off one by one all night every night.
[875] Fantastic.
[876] Let's go to Miami.
[877] No, I think we also need to have super gray hair and look like failure.
[878] That was the other big kind of archetype was old dude with girl that is way younger and hotter than he should have.
[879] There was a lot of that going around that place too.
[880] So yeah, it was just, it was like this awesome, you know, like group of people seeing video games, like interesting people, you know, interesting stuff there, like just surrounded by just abject sadness.
[881] And I was just like, man, this is, I'm really getting pulled in a lot of directions here, guys.
[882] Let's go to Orlando.
[883] Yeah.
[884] So what'd you see?
[885] That's it really.
[886] I blew off all the other stuff.
[887] Went back to that club.
[888] It was a pretty good club.
[889] Yeah, you know.
[890] So Capcom made a couple of announcements.
[891] They finally just came out and said that they are going to do Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition for home consoles.
[892] It's official.
[893] It's official.
[894] Wait, for home consoles?
[895] Instead of just the arcade.
[896] Instead of just the arcade.
[897] So there's now, we're getting another version?
[898] A third version of Street Fighter 4.
[899] I swear, it's the 90s all over again.
[900] It sounds crazy.
[901] Well, so the good part this time is that they are going to offer it both ways.
[902] It'll be DLC for Super Street Fighter 4.
[903] So no more $40 games that I've got to pay for?
[904] Provided you already own Super Street Fighter 4.
[905] Okay, great.
[906] Like I said, they're doing it both ways.
[907] So you can pay $15 and get it as DLC, and that'll be like early June.
[908] I actually have it written down here.
[909] Got my notes.
[910] That'll be June 7th.
[911] And then if you want it on disc, they're going to just do the whole thing as a disc.
[912] I don't know what the pricing is for that, but that'll be like end of June, like 24th in Europe, 28th.
[913] So what did I miss in the arcade version?
[914] It's four more characters.
[915] It's Yun and Yang from Street Fighter III.
[916] The twins got the rollerblades and the guy on the skateboard, which I have never thought were good characters.
[917] So you're selling it.
[918] Yeah.
[919] So what else were the other two?
[920] Evil Ryu and Oni, who is basically an eviler Akuma.
[921] I was just going to say I always thought Akuma was evil.
[922] He's pretty evil, dude.
[923] Yeah, so they added two more characters with dragon punches and the raging demon.
[924] And when we had Jared in here, I think he even said it, and it's something that I've kind of heard from a few different people, is that they've rebalanced the game in a lot of ways that people don't seem to be too into.
[925] So there's that.
[926] They're also adding new replay channel stuff.
[927] You'll be able to follow players and get all their replays sent to you directly.
[928] So if there's dudes that you really like watching fight, you can seek them out.
[929] It's got a pretty decent – that's a pretty – beefy roster at this point.
[930] I think that's 39 characters now.
[931] Yeah.
[932] So that's pretty crazy.
[933] So my four will still be there.
[934] Yeah.
[935] I can still play two.
[936] Right.
[937] Yeah, so doing that, and they also announced a game called Dragon's Dogma.
[938] Okay.
[939] Which, you don't have it wrong.
[940] That is a bad name for a game.
[941] If you're sitting there going, what?
[942] It's Kevin Smith's new fantasy series.
[943] Right.
[944] Yeah.
[945] Starring Sean Connery as the dragon.
[946] Yeah.
[947] Hello.
[948] And this is going to be an action game from basically everyone who works at Capcom.
[949] Everybody left.
[950] The guys at the top are Devil May Cry guys, like Kobayashi and Itsuno, who works on DMC4.
[951] Some classic Devil May Cry guys.
[952] DMC4 and DMC3.
[953] Yeah, I don't know.
[954] They say it's the largest team they've ever had working on a game.
[955] It's an open world game.
[956] And it's an action game, but not necessarily crazy like a Devil May Cry combo system sort of way.
[957] It's fantasy.
[958] This is like Lord of the Rings.
[959] There are dragons.
[960] There are swords.
[961] Swords and bows.
[962] Magics.
[963] Three classes.
[964] Your mage, your fighter, and the strider.
[965] It looked like a Western RPG.
[966] At least from its look and feel.
[967] From its look.
[968] I don't know.
[969] Really?
[970] Yeah, I don't know.
[971] It looks like Japanese Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning or maybe like Japanese Oblivion.
[972] But here's the way that I judge them.
[973] By the dragons that are in them.
[974] Like if the dragons, you either have like a, you know, this very classic sort of western style dragon.
[975] It kind of looked like what they had.
[976] And they got that hydra.
[977] Yeah.
[978] That sick griffin.
[979] Yeah, those are more traditional.
[980] There are a couple of things.
[981] Yeah, but there are a couple of tells that are like, oh, Japan.
[982] It's the – a lot of slow motion people grabbing at the camera.
[983] It's the midget gesture.
[984] Yeah, it's the – Yeah, a little midget gesture.
[985] Some of the body things like – There's a lot of slow motion reaching at the camera.
[986] Like I'm going to grab this thing that's out of focus.
[987] Like falling.
[988] But it's falling at the same time.
[989] Fall fantasy.
[990] And then there's the rocking guitar solos.
[991] Yeah, rocking.
[992] When you throw fireballs.
[993] Yeah.
[994] Wow.
[995] Where did you come from?
[996] Japan?
[997] Yeah.
[998] All right.
[999] Yeah.
[1000] So it looks – it's – Capcom has been doing a lot of games with Western developers.
[1001] This is not one of them.
[1002] This just seems like them attempting to make a more Western type of fantasy action game.
[1003] Cool.
[1004] And it seems like it could go multiple ways.
[1005] It could be, like I said, it could be like Japanese Oblivion or it's third person.
[1006] So it could be like the Kingdoms of Amalur game that Big Huge is working on.
[1007] They're copying from the Germans this time.
[1008] Or it could be like single player Monster Hunter because you're going to be rolling with three AI dudes that you can give a few commands to.
[1009] Yeah, that's kind of my bigger worries.
[1010] I think this is going to be...
[1011] a single player MMO style with like the, the narrative not being super tight and that, that I don't know what it is about like some Japanese, let's just say medieval slash fantasy stuff.
[1012] It always something real loose about.
[1013] A lot of that stuff.
[1014] And they didn't really have a lot of great firm answers about how you'd be getting quests and how that sort of stuff would be working.
[1015] Instead, it was like they seemed very excited that it was open world.
[1016] It was like, you'll see a monster in the mountains and you can go fight him.
[1017] Like, OK.
[1018] All right.
[1019] Cool.
[1020] Can I capture?
[1021] Why?
[1022] Like how do I – they wouldn't really say if there was a dialogue system or what it was going to be like.
[1023] They didn't seem to.
[1024] to want to go to in depth about that stuff.
[1025] It's out next year.
[1026] I will say that, you know, they had a kind of a brief playable version there where you fought that Griffin.
[1027] It's in the trailer.
[1028] And I think that tells a better tale, like hearing them describe it and playing it.
[1029] is more interesting than the trailers they put out.
[1030] The trailers, I think, kind of sell it a little short scope -wise.
[1031] I mean, from an action perspective, that trailer didn't necessarily look like a Devil May Cry style.
[1032] It's definitely not that kind of combo -driven crazy game.
[1033] But at the same time, it's not going to have...
[1034] deep RPG elements or anything, you're not going to have, like, magic points.
[1035] It's going to be, like, rechargeable, recharging stamina bar that governs when you can use your abilities or whatever.
[1036] Well, from the trailer that we saw before, it looked like a lot of strafing and popping off arrows around, like locking onto a target.
[1037] Yeah, they showed a lot.
[1038] That's the Strider class, the Ranger, basically.
[1039] Firing off a bunch of arrows.
[1040] There's a lot of arrow stuff in that, I guess.
[1041] One dude climbed on a griffin.
[1042] Yeah, so basically, like, they have, like, the trigger button, the right trigger, or R2.
[1043] is mapped to grab and you can use that to just pick up dudes so they'll be like goblins you can just pick them up and throw them at other goblins or yeah when you're fighting the griffin you can just grab onto the griffin crawl up onto his back and start stabbing him which was pretty satisfying yeah well he's still flying yeah he's still flying around and kind of trying to get away it's kind of satisfying in that like shadow of the colossus sort of way of here's this big thing that i'm ripping up yeah like it's kind of sad in a way I don't know what that griffin did to you.
[1044] Whatever, that griffin was on the attack, man. Griffins are normally fairly friendly.
[1045] Not this one.
[1046] Well, you're like, wow, griffin.
[1047] Well, griffins are, I don't know.
[1048] I don't know too much about griffins.
[1049] Because they look like eagles.
[1050] How do you think griffin should be spelled?
[1051] G -R -Y -P -H -O -N.
[1052] Why?
[1053] How are they spelling it?
[1054] G -R -I -F -F -I -N.
[1055] What?
[1056] That might just be translation in progress or something.
[1057] That's like a fancy guy that lives in Bel Air.
[1058] Right.
[1059] Yo, Griffin!
[1060] Griffin!
[1061] Benton Griffin.
[1062] Talk to my friend Griff.
[1063] DJ Griff.
[1064] The crime dog.
[1065] What is he, McGruff?
[1066] Yeah.
[1067] Same thing.
[1068] The dragon's dogma.
[1069] Yeah.
[1070] Apostrophe S. Yes, apostrophe S. And a dragon speaks to you through his heart?
[1071] Yes, a dragon speaks.
[1072] Yes, yes.
[1073] A dragon calls out to you and you do quests for a dragon.
[1074] Okay.
[1075] It's not Sean Connery.
[1076] I don't think it's Sean Connery.
[1077] All right.
[1078] They haven't really said anything about that.
[1079] I hope he's like an evil dragon.
[1080] Like, I want one that just wants to hoard gold.
[1081] Like, wouldn't that be fun?
[1082] So I guess the reason for the name is that the dragon is going to be teaching you its dogma.
[1083] What is it?
[1084] What?
[1085] I don't know.
[1086] What does that even mean?
[1087] I don't know.
[1088] So you will learn how to hoard gold?
[1089] I guess, yeah.
[1090] But you've got to do, son.
[1091] You've got to get yours.
[1092] You've got to get yours.
[1093] You've got to get a treasure pile, then get a princess.
[1094] Put the princess on top of the treasure pile.
[1095] You sleep in front of the treasure pile.
[1096] Anyone comes up on it.
[1097] There's a bunch of sharks out there trying to get what you've got.
[1098] You've got to be ready.
[1099] Do you want to retire young?
[1100] You need yourself a treasure pile.
[1101] Oh, man. What else?
[1102] Dead Rising 2, colon, off the record.
[1103] I can't tell you about it.
[1104] It's off the record.
[1105] Tell me about it.
[1106] So that one you do need a special hat.
[1107] I'll tell you about it, but you can't write anything about it.
[1108] This is all off the record.
[1109] This is off the record.
[1110] This is off the record.
[1111] It's off the record.
[1112] All right, hold on a second.
[1113] I just turned off my voice recorder.
[1114] Okay, great.
[1115] All right, so tell me about this.
[1116] So what if Dead Rising 2 had Frank West in it instead of Chuck Green?
[1117] What was that?
[1118] What?
[1119] I'm sorry, you said what?
[1120] What if you played as Frank West instead of Chuck Green in Dead Rising 2?
[1121] That would probably be slightly different, but probably a lot of the same.
[1122] Yeah.
[1123] Would I still be picking up weird weapons and hitting zombies?
[1124] Yes, there will be new combo weapons in the game.
[1125] So it's basically exactly as it sounds.
[1126] It's the events of Dead Rising 2, but kind of spun off in a different direction because you're playing as a different guy.
[1127] This is a game that is going to be on disc.
[1128] I know you're sitting there going, oh, well, it's a DLC add -on.
[1129] No, this is a separate product that they originally started as a Dead Rising 2 director's cut and then decided, well, what if we put Frank West in it?
[1130] So does that mean the director actually wanted to put Frank West in it the entire time?
[1131] Who can say?
[1132] Just make your fucking game.
[1133] Fine.
[1134] All right.
[1135] Player 2 will play as Chuck Green in the co -op.
[1136] Really?
[1137] Yeah.
[1138] So the big difference I saw was the opening scene is no longer motorcycle racing.
[1139] It's now wrestling, backyard wrestling.
[1140] Yeah, Frank West in a unitard wrestling zombies doing spinning lariats.
[1141] And he's big.
[1142] Yeah, he's packed on some weight.
[1143] So basically the story is that he's fallen on hard times.
[1144] Out of the Willamette incident, he became a big hero and, you know.
[1145] Basically did a bunch of bad endorsement deals.
[1146] He listened to the dragon.
[1147] He's basically like a reality TV star or something at this point or something like that.
[1148] And they make jokes at the beginning that he's hawking baldness remedies now.
[1149] So he's kind of come back on the show as a means to kickstart his career.
[1150] But then he catches that TK guy.
[1151] basically doing bad stuff, like almost immediately.
[1152] He takes out his camera, starts taking shots.
[1153] And then he's in it.
[1154] And then he's in it.
[1155] So, uh, so I said, when you said that, uh, no more than a couple of hours ago, I said, well, you know, the only thing that would make me excited about this is if there's, uh, Frank West saying, here's what I would have done.
[1156] And that's exactly how that trailer opened.
[1157] And so I was kind of back on board because it, the only way that, the only way that sounds interesting to me is if it's like, ridiculous and it's like a his version not a developer designer saying here's what would have happened with frank west in the game it's frank west being like here's what would have happened with frank west in the game i want it to be a weird dream scenario where like every time he looks in the mirror he is not frank west and he like can't figure it out like just i want give me like some weird plot story well like every time he looks maybe he looks awesome he's like super skinny and buff yeah i'll fucking kick an ass uh so i hope i hope it's different enough and i I mean, that's a pretty quirky series, so I hope they embrace that in this altered reality.
[1158] Like I said, photography is back, so you can get pee -pee by taking pictures.
[1159] Naughty, sexy.
[1160] Yeah, there's erotica and horror and all that same stuff.
[1161] And the story will unfold differently, and it'll probably skew off in some different directions.
[1162] They said that there is one new area in the game that is not a mall or a casino.
[1163] I don't know what it would be.
[1164] But terror is reality playground.
[1165] Yeah, maybe.
[1166] It's a Miami hotel.
[1167] Yeah, it's a Miami hotel with a fire alarm constantly going off.
[1168] So did they give any sort of, like, pricing or details?
[1169] Not that I've seen.
[1170] Not that I've seen, yeah.
[1171] I imagine that maybe after they record this, they will put out some text release or something that might say.
[1172] But so far, it's that trailer and some other stuff.
[1173] Capcom is a pretty good track record, though, of not.
[1174] pricing their stuff when they do these kind of things they seem to be well recently they do with Super Street Fighter 4 making that 40 bucks but all their PC game stuff too like Dead Rising was I mean most almost everything Capcom on PC was no 40 bucks and this will be coming to the PC as well speaking of which Super Street Fighter 4 arcade edition will be coming to the PC wow yeah they didn't put out super regular super there but they are going to do it So, yeah, I don't know.
[1175] They say that they're taking the feedback into consideration based on reviews and stuff from Dead Rising 2.
[1176] So I did say – Yeah, OK.
[1177] So I straight up asked, will you be able to drop off survivors by just walking near the room?
[1178] All right.
[1179] And he seemed to not – We're not talking about that right now.
[1180] It's kind of how a lot of that stuff is.
[1181] Because that's what Frank West would do.
[1182] Frank West would kick him down.
[1183] You'll be fine.
[1184] In Case West, you just found the dudes and they ran off on their own, right?
[1185] That's what Brad said.
[1186] I hadn't made it through yet.
[1187] Maybe they'll do that and you won't have to escort anybody back at all, right?
[1188] Just give them your blessing and be like, go for it.
[1189] You've got a lot of health.
[1190] Just run.
[1191] Just high five.
[1192] Just after me. Once you get out of this zone, I don't even care what happens.
[1193] So, yeah, like it's – from what I've seen and from hearing them describe it, it just seems like a tough sell.
[1194] It's like here's this game and they played like the first 15 minutes of it.
[1195] And it's like, yeah, there's the steps that lead out of the terrorist reality arena and I know if I go right beyond that door, there's going to be a little kiosk and maybe that girl will be up there with the gun.
[1196] But I would – it's – If you told me that they took Dead Rising 2.
[1197] And they said, okay, we needed to make Dead Rising 2 this way.
[1198] Now we don't really have to make it anyway.
[1199] And they took it and they were like, we're just going to have fun with it.
[1200] You can let the survivors go off.
[1201] That's fun.
[1202] The missions are a little looser.
[1203] Just sandbox it up.
[1204] Here are these broken weapons that just make you totally invincible.
[1205] I'd be down for that.
[1206] And you start out a little more powerful, too.
[1207] And increase the speed by about 25%.
[1208] Yeah, everything is just kind of more arcade -y and less taking itself seriously.
[1209] I could be down for some real goofy Dead Rising 2 fun in that universe for $40.
[1210] But in that universe, yes.
[1211] In that same environment, that's where it becomes a stretch to me. Where I'm like, okay, I already know this area.
[1212] I don't want to go through it again.
[1213] Yeah.
[1214] That's where it kind of...
[1215] It's all about the weapons.
[1216] I think it's literally if they...
[1217] And I don't think the story is good enough to necessarily want to see it unfold in a slightly different way.
[1218] But yeah, it will have new combo weapons.
[1219] So there will be that.
[1220] Maybe they'll have a universal chest where you can leave your weapons in there.
[1221] That's what I'm saying.
[1222] If they go in there...
[1223] That's not going to...
[1224] If they just fix the stuff that was busted about Dead Rising 2, then it's like, well, you should put out this game the first time.
[1225] Yeah.
[1226] What the hell?
[1227] What?
[1228] All right.
[1229] Well.
[1230] That's like a really – Right.
[1231] Do you remember the really masochistic way to look at – If you're like, oh, yeah, I'll totally give you another $40 to $60.
[1232] Try it again.
[1233] For a refined version of this game that I already bought.
[1234] Like, it's kind of messed up.
[1235] It's kind of messed up.
[1236] It's kind of messed up.
[1237] I feel the Dead Rising games, you pretty much just go in.
[1238] Like, everybody gets that high when they get into it.
[1239] And they're like, they spend about 12 hours or something.
[1240] And they're like, this game's great.
[1241] And then it just dogs on you.
[1242] And you just can't.
[1243] It's a grind.
[1244] It becomes a bit of a grind.
[1245] Yeah, no, you're totally right.
[1246] It's messed up.
[1247] I'm saying the only thing that might make it slightly appealing.
[1248] Yeah.
[1249] I see that there is some kind of appeal there.
[1250] If they left all that stuff the same and just told me I was using Frank West, man, no way.
[1251] Right.
[1252] If it was just a reskin with some extra voice work and then slightly different encounters, I can't go through all that combo weapon stuff and bringing survivors back in those load times.
[1253] I can't.
[1254] I can't do it.
[1255] The one thing they did come out and say directly is that the load times will be better.
[1256] Still.
[1257] Can't do it.
[1258] You got to give me. A little more something.
[1259] Maybe Frank West just shoots all the survivors.
[1260] Nobody's telling the tale.
[1261] I want that game to mix.
[1262] I want that game to mix with Alan Wake.
[1263] Give me the fun of Dead Rising and kind of like that story kind of driven stuff from Alan Wake, the weirdness.
[1264] Like if you gave me that in a Dead Rising game, I would love it.
[1265] It's like you can't get both out of a game for some reason.
[1266] You can't get running around with a flashlight.
[1267] Remember how boring that got in that game and the real closed off type stuff?
[1268] See, I want giant beam weapons in Dead Rising 2.
[1269] I want to just turn on a giant thing and basically evaporate everything in my path.
[1270] You want more sandbox.
[1271] Yeah, I want more Red Faction style craziness.
[1272] I want to topple a building on top of zombies.
[1273] Because that's, you know, the weapons breaking and stuff, that's kind of annoying.
[1274] Like I want to be able to just carve a path through zombies, especially if I'm basically giving you $40 to make me go back into this game.
[1275] Or $60.
[1276] Or $80.
[1277] Who knows?
[1278] Yeah, it'll probably be $80.
[1279] Yeah, if I'm giving you more money to have the same experience, like basically you should just give me developer console in that game at that point.
[1280] Just do what you want.
[1281] Spawn more exploding barrels.
[1282] Spawn more overlords.
[1283] Yes.
[1284] Anyway, what else did you see?
[1285] What else?
[1286] Street Fighter X Tekken.
[1287] Okay.
[1288] Which is the Street Fighter versus Tekken game.
[1289] Did they say how many characters would be in that?
[1290] Is it going to have all the views?
[1291] So they showed ten, which is a pretty good first look to already have ten characters.
[1292] Is it your basic eight?
[1293] Like bison or something in there?
[1294] It's five and five right now.
[1295] Oh, oh, ten.
[1296] So they want to announce characters in pairs and have them kind of match up in a way.
[1297] So, you know, like Ryu and Kazuya kind of pair off.
[1298] Oh, the dragon and the demon.
[1299] Yeah, the devil.
[1300] Come on.
[1301] Sorry.
[1302] My dogma's messed up.
[1303] So they kind of showed characters with their partners or whatever.
[1304] You can picture Marduk being kind of the grapply guy, pairing off with Abel, who's in the game.
[1305] But they showed Chun -Li and Bob, and they didn't have partners for them.
[1306] I expect that Chun -Li will be partnered with Lei from Tekken, who was also a cop.
[1307] Yeah, I can see that.
[1308] That's my guess.
[1309] And Bob, probably Rufus, because they're both fat.
[1310] Who's King partnered with?
[1311] Guile, I think.
[1312] If the positions on the character select screen are indicative of how they're doing it, then it's Ken and Nina.
[1313] Not that you have to pick them that way.
[1314] It's just that they're trying to match the characters up in some meaningful way.
[1315] So was it playable?
[1316] It's playable.
[1317] Yeah, very playable.
[1318] But it's very early as well.
[1319] It's a tag game, so you're picking two characters each.
[1320] And they could be – Yeah.
[1321] You pick any two you want.
[1322] And it's the Street Fighter IV engine.
[1323] So at its core, if you're playing as the Street Fighter guys, the game feels crazy.
[1324] Like I went back to play some Street Fighter IV after this and kind of couldn't.
[1325] Is it much slower?
[1326] The jumps are slower.
[1327] They're not like Tekken floaty or anything weird like that.
[1328] But – The game also has tons of juggles in it, like a lot of stuff juggles like Tekken style.
[1329] Just uppercutting dudes across the screen.
[1330] Yeah, like uppercutting guys, then walking up and punching them as they're coming down and uppercutting them again.
[1331] And then at some point it prevents you from just uppercutting them over and over again.
[1332] It doesn't let you do that crazy stuff.
[1333] Can you kick dudes on the ground?
[1334] I don't know.
[1335] I think you probably will be able to, if I had to guess.
[1336] But it does have the Tekken roll forward to get up.
[1337] So you kind of roll out of the corner past a guy to stand up.
[1338] So in its most basic form, it feels like someone took Street Fighter IV and attached a game genie to it and said, you can just hit him any time.
[1339] And just turned on juggles.
[1340] Rainbows.
[1341] So with that in mind, it's already...
[1342] really crazy just being able to catch guys as they're coming down and all kinds of crazy juggle stuff.
[1343] That was just a lot of fun just to figure that stuff out.
[1344] And then both sides can do it.
[1345] Yeah.
[1346] Anybody.
[1347] Right.
[1348] Okay.
[1349] It's just the system.
[1350] Yeah.
[1351] Yeah.
[1352] That's just – that's how it is.
[1353] And then the Tekken characters actually feel dramatically different from the Street Fighter guys.
[1354] Oh, weird.
[1355] But still – They feel like Tekken characters more than I would have expected.
[1356] It's not just like, oh, he throws fireballs.
[1357] It's not just like we gave him three special moves, go.
[1358] If you use the light and medium attacks, you can actually kind of bang out some basic Tekken combos with them like they were the left -right punch, left -right kick.
[1359] But it does use the full six buttons.
[1360] And they have some special moves as well.
[1361] They don't have projectiles, right?
[1362] No. So how do you close in?
[1363] That's kind of the tough part, and that's where it definitely seems very early.
[1364] Some characters could kind of do like a ducking lunge that would get them under projectiles.
[1365] You kind of use that to close the gap.
[1366] Floaty jumps, man. Floaty jumps.
[1367] Yeah, or jump over them.
[1368] And there's some other interesting stuff in there.
[1369] Each character has one move that can be held.
[1370] So if you do a sonic boom and hold down the punch button on it, he goes into the animation.
[1371] He pulls back his arms.
[1372] And then we'll just sit there and kind of charge it up.
[1373] So if you hold down the button for, I don't know, a couple of seconds or something, it becomes the EX version of the move.
[1374] If you keep holding it down, eventually it does a super.
[1375] And in both cases, it doesn't use any of your meter.
[1376] Oh.
[1377] So if you can charge it up, you can do it without using any meter.
[1378] You just can't do anything else.
[1379] Or if you have full meter, right, you're just stuck there.
[1380] And then we're supers?
[1381] Yeah.
[1382] And even the Tekken characters have supers, which look pretty cool.
[1383] Like, Kazuya will eventually get you up in the air.
[1384] I think that's even in the trailer.
[1385] He'll get you up in the air and then shoot, like, devil eye laser at you while you're up there.
[1386] There's your eye lasers.
[1387] There's your one projectile in Tekken is the eye laser.
[1388] Gosh.
[1389] But he seems to only do it as part of a super.
[1390] It seems like it has a long way to go.
[1391] The characters seem like they were missing a few moves in some cases.
[1392] You can't do ten strings, which I wonder if that will be in there or if that will just be too much.
[1393] But it seems really cool.
[1394] Can you Nina grab dudes and just pretty much counter everything that's thrown at her?
[1395] Kind of.
[1396] Wow, really?
[1397] Lock them up and then get them on the ground and break their arms?
[1398] I want to grab a fireball.
[1399] It didn't have that stuff.
[1400] It didn't have the arm.
[1401] break throw in there.
[1402] But whenever you do throws, it actually zooms in like a Tekken game would, even with the Street Fighter guys, which I thought was kind of cool.
[1403] And she's got the left -right, left -right double punch kind of combo in there.
[1404] Yeah, that's kind of interesting.
[1405] Kazuya's got his dragon punch equivalent, but you don't do it the same way, because you don't do it the same way in Tekken.
[1406] It's like that weird, I don't know if you've ever seen Tekken notation, but it's like forward, neutral, down, down, forward.
[1407] Big binder.
[1408] So you do them that way.
[1409] Obviously, the Ken Dragon Punch and all that stuff comes out the exact same way, but the motion is slightly different for his, which it's showing an attention to detail that I think is appropriate.
[1410] So this is Capcom or Street Fighter Cross or whatever.
[1411] Cross, yeah.
[1412] Which is really big in the logo.
[1413] The Cross?
[1414] Yeah, it's giant.
[1415] Is there a Tekken Cross Street Fighter in the works?
[1416] Yeah.
[1417] Okay.
[1418] So that's Namco's game.
[1419] And the interesting thing I found out is that they have no input on each other's game.
[1420] Just make your game, we'll make ours?
[1421] Yeah.
[1422] I don't care if you don't come out, we're going to make a game.
[1423] It sounds like the release of these trailers today is going to be, might be the first time that the guys at Namco realize which Tekken characters are going to be in the game.
[1424] So they said, here's our roster.
[1425] Yeah, here's your roster, go.
[1426] Well, it seems like a cool way to do it, if that's actually true.
[1427] I don't know if I necessarily believe that.
[1428] It sounds a little crazy to me. They might just say, like, oh, yeah, we're putting Bob in it.
[1429] Unless that was the only way to do it after, like, years of, like, Batman.
[1430] Like, no, no, no. Tell you what.
[1431] You just do what you got to do.
[1432] We'll do what we need to do.
[1433] We'll do you sells more.
[1434] Yeah.
[1435] You go make a game.
[1436] Yeah.
[1437] Well, ours is going to be crazy.
[1438] We're going to have the most awesome story in our Tekken one.
[1439] Ken's running a business with a fucking panda bear.
[1440] He's a cyborg.
[1441] Yeah, that's kind of like the thing I'd be most looking forward to out of Namco's game is them making crazy Tekken endings for Street Fighter characters.
[1442] Well, there was even the weird Servbot heads that were popping around.
[1443] Oh, the stage stuff, yeah.
[1444] Fight in front of dinosaurs.
[1445] So it already looks kind of weird.
[1446] Yeah, those are the two stages they were showing is there's the Servbot stage and the Jurassic Park stage, which I don't know if that's supposed to be like Dino Crisis or what the hell is going on.
[1447] I just kept waiting for Sam Neill to pop up, start hugging some kids, say toasty.
[1448] Yeah.
[1449] Yeah.
[1450] Clever girl.
[1451] So that's probably the most like interesting thing that they had to show was Street Fighter Cross Tech.
[1452] And I think that that looks really cool.
[1453] They were also showing.
[1454] Azra's Wrath.
[1455] That game looks bananas.
[1456] From CyberConnect2.
[1457] You didn't even do like air quotes or anything.
[1458] They were showing – tell me what they showed.
[1459] Well, they showed a trailer which you can find on the site right now and then they played that sequence as well.
[1460] And so how do you play it?
[1461] It's kind of like – Because the trailer looks – So it looks like it's Dragon's Lair.
[1462] It looks like it's a bunch of quick time events.
[1463] Because the guy's going to push his finger into it.
[1464] In a couple of cases they showed like controller motions on screen.
[1465] Like you need to separate the two analog sticks.
[1466] So like you need to do this.
[1467] So heavy rainy?
[1468] No, not even like that.
[1469] Like just it almost looked like a cut scene is unfolding and you need to hit these buttons to keep the cut scene moving.
[1470] It's sort of how it looked to me. There was one part where you're kind of flying out of the sky to land on this like guy who's bigger than the planet that he is attacking.
[1471] And it looked like you maybe had some control there.
[1472] A little direct control?
[1473] Yeah, it didn't look like you had a ton of direct control.
[1474] But watch that trailer.
[1475] The game looks like that.
[1476] The game is that.
[1477] It looks like Bayonetta is having a fever dream.
[1478] Yeah.
[1479] She's kind of gone crazy.
[1480] I had a crazy dream.
[1481] I had a crazy dream.
[1482] There was this giant guy and his finger, he wanted to crush me under his finger.
[1483] And then all of a sudden I had six arms.
[1484] But then they all exploded.
[1485] And then the arms exploded.
[1486] Yeah, I lost five of my arms by punching his finger.
[1487] So the big thing that I saw that was like the constant of the new Capcom stuff was there was lots of like, I don't know what you'd call it, like skin shelling.
[1488] Let's call it skin shelling.
[1489] Like you're shedding the skin?
[1490] Yeah, and somehow you lose a shell of your skin.
[1491] But it breaks off like stone or something.
[1492] It does, but then it's revealed underneath.
[1493] It's like the same thing underneath.
[1494] I couldn't figure out what was going on, but it was a costume.
[1495] In that Tekken trailer, I think it's just because all the Street Fighter IV trailers had that kind of ink style.
[1496] They wanted a watery style for this one.
[1497] So it's like the shells become water as they're cracking off of their faces.
[1498] But why did he lose his face and then he had the same face underneath?
[1499] Because it got punched hard and it was just a layer of sweat that was cracking off.
[1500] And when he punched that big finger and then like he just lost a shell around his hand, it was the same thing.
[1501] But all the hands blew up too.
[1502] Yeah, they eventually blew up like after loss of shells.
[1503] But yeah, I agree.
[1504] It wasn't clear whether.
[1505] It's just weird.
[1506] It's just rage.
[1507] Oh, Japan.
[1508] Yeah.
[1509] And then a guitar solo broke out.
[1510] That's right.
[1511] Well, that sounds like a kind of crazy trip.
[1512] Capcom.
[1513] Yeah, and then a pair of Resident Evil games.
[1514] Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D for the 3DS, which is Mercenaries, but it's in 3D and it's on a 3DS.
[1515] They've got like a skill system.
[1516] Yeah, you can play as Hunk.
[1517] And you can move and shoot.
[1518] You can move and shoot, yeah.
[1519] And then Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City, which is the third -person shooter from the developers of SOCOM Confrontation.
[1520] And it looks a lot like a game that the developers of SOCOM Confrontation would make, but there are zombies.
[1521] And it's like four -on -four online.
[1522] Four -on -four?
[1523] Yeah.
[1524] So it's kind of like tactical.
[1525] Like you pick a character class and you get skills like active camouflage or...
[1526] The medic character can shoot an adrenaline dart that kind of slows down time.
[1527] Active camouflage.
[1528] Yeah, like Predator Invisibility stuff.
[1529] Like in Resident Evil?
[1530] You can move, right?
[1531] Yeah, because you're playing as like Umbrella Special Forces versus like Delta Force or something.
[1532] And then Leon Kennedy is there.
[1533] Like one of the missions.
[1534] Is he a referee in like a ref shirt?
[1535] Yeah.
[1536] Okay.
[1537] Like one of the missions is like the Umbrella guys have to find Leon Kennedy and kill him.
[1538] And I think that the other team has to prevent that from happening.
[1539] Or maybe it's just the single player.
[1540] It wasn't really clear.
[1541] And then there are zombies.
[1542] Also?
[1543] Also, there are zombies.
[1544] God damn it.
[1545] And B .O .W.'s.
[1546] Bio -organic weapons.
[1547] Bow.
[1548] Which is like tyrant.
[1549] Or not.
[1550] Nemesis.
[1551] Gotta go to the notes.
[1552] Did not see Nemesis.
[1553] Dude, I need to look at my notes because I actually don't know what anything Resident Evil is named.
[1554] Oh, the bell.
[1555] The lickers?
[1556] Definitely do not see any lickers.
[1557] I'm running out of here too.
[1558] Zombies?
[1559] Tyrant and a hunter.
[1560] A hunter will kind of appear and hunt the top player.
[1561] There are herbs.
[1562] Are there typewriter ribbons?
[1563] I didn't see any.
[1564] All right.
[1565] How am I going to save my game?
[1566] But it looks like in the single -player missions, it almost looked like there were Left 4 Dead -style safe houses where it's like, here's a room full of herbs and ammo.
[1567] All right, go on.
[1568] Get ready.
[1569] Yeah.
[1570] Here's this boss fountain.
[1571] Yeah.
[1572] And in my notes here, as you can see, the first thing I wrote down, zombies.
[1573] Oh, okay.
[1574] And the second thing you see here, SOCOM.
[1575] So, zombie SOCOM.
[1576] Zombie SOCOM.
[1577] Okay.
[1578] And then the character classes have names like Vector and Beltway.
[1579] Okay.
[1580] Yeah.
[1581] That looked interesting.
[1582] Yeah.
[1583] It sounds a little different.
[1584] Yeah.
[1585] It's definitely different from the typical Resident Evil thing.
[1586] Is there a date on that?
[1587] Talking about that kind of date?
[1588] I want to say that's late.
[1589] That's coming this year.
[1590] That's a fall release.
[1591] And Super is this year?
[1592] Arcade Edition, you mean?
[1593] Yeah, Arcade Edition.
[1594] Yeah, that's June.
[1595] So that's coming pretty soon.
[1596] So is most of that stuff this year?
[1597] Dragon's Dogma is 2012.
[1598] Okay.
[1599] And I don't know that they have a date for Street Fighter X Tekken yet, but I would imagine that would be – I would hope that would be this year.
[1600] Whatever.
[1601] They put out their fighting games in the first quarter of the year.
[1602] That's how Street Fighter IV has been.
[1603] That's how MVC3 was.
[1604] So maybe that's not until next year.
[1605] Next year.
[1606] It's a weird – it seems like a weird year for Capcom.
[1607] Well, I'm interested to see that they have stuff that they are working on.
[1608] Because before this event, it was like, God, what are they working on?
[1609] It's like, well, they got two Resident Evil games and they got that Devil May Cry remake.
[1610] Yeah.
[1611] Which was not there.
[1612] But apparently that and the Street Fighter 3 Third Strike will be at E3.
[1613] So they're just kind of holding some stuff for E3.
[1614] A lot of Street Fighter, huh?
[1615] It's pretty big.
[1616] It's making money again.
[1617] Yeah, I guess so.
[1618] Fighting games are back, man. MK has been like the number one most popular game on the site.
[1619] Off and on for the past few weeks.
[1620] Yeah, it's going to be the same problem, though.
[1621] It's just a bubble again.
[1622] It'll burst?
[1623] Yeah, you got too many of them.
[1624] To be honest, Tekken, how big is the crossover between Street Fighter and Tekken fans?
[1625] Big enough for a game.
[1626] I know it's big enough for a game, but I just don't see that as an...
[1627] Obviously, it can't be too big of a...
[1628] A resource hog for them.
[1629] They're obviously using the same engine and stuff.
[1630] It looks very similar to Street Fighter IV.
[1631] Maybe just a little bit more pulled back.
[1632] But I just – I don't know.
[1633] Tekken never grabbed me. Yeah.
[1634] The obvious – I think that's a regional thing.
[1635] I think Tekken does a lot better in Japan than it does – certainly than it has done here recently.
[1636] Like Tekken feels dead in the U .S. Yeah.
[1637] And there are certainly people that are very enthusiastic about Tekken, and there is a scene around it.
[1638] But as far as mainstream success, Tekken 6 just kind of came and went.
[1639] I feel like Tekken X Virtua Fighter is more natural.
[1640] Yeah, that's the game that makes more sense naturally.
[1641] But I was pretty impressed at how the Tekken characters have been integrated into this.
[1642] They felt really interesting.
[1643] It felt like it was revitalizing Tekken for me in a way.
[1644] Because I know just enough about Tekken to be able to kind of...
[1645] Bang out the traditional combos.
[1646] And a lot of that stuff was in there.
[1647] So it was exciting to see that stuff in there as well as the kind of focus.
[1648] I really want to see the Expendables version of fighting games.
[1649] Like I just want them to call it like fighting game.
[1650] And it's just got everybody in it.
[1651] Give me Marvel characters.
[1652] Give me Tekken.
[1653] Give me Battle Arena.
[1654] Snowman from Clayfighter.
[1655] Yeah.
[1656] Throw them all in there, man. Why not?
[1657] Licensing would be.
[1658] Awesome.
[1659] Well, it's probably just as bad.
[1660] Yeah, Mugen.
[1661] Give me some Samurai Shodown guys in there.
[1662] Yeah.
[1663] Why not?
[1664] Absolutely.
[1665] That's a game.
[1666] I still think that the interesting game is Street Fighter versus Mortal Kombat.
[1667] That's still the one.
[1668] And the thing you kind of keep hearing is like, yeah, the guys in Japan.
[1669] don't know what Mortal Kombat is.
[1670] So they picked Tekken because they know what Tekken is.
[1671] It just seems like straight up, you know, those games never did well over there, so they're not viewed as being on the same level as Street Fighter.
[1672] Whereas here, it's like, those two are like the twin towers, the titans of the genre.
[1673] for a lot of people.
[1674] But I would love to see, I would really like to see it because the art styles are so different.
[1675] So I would like to see like Mortal Kombat, if it were still live action stuff with like Street Fighter dudes, like live action -y.
[1676] Well, I mean, did you ever play Street Fighter the movie?
[1677] Yeah.
[1678] The game?
[1679] Oh my God, yeah, that was terrible.
[1680] But better, you know?
[1681] And then seeing like the Mortal Kombat guys done real kind of like anime.
[1682] No, they do it the same way.
[1683] You make your game, we'll make our game.
[1684] Yeah, exactly.
[1685] Yeah, so like the street, like taking like Sub -Zero and making him like kind of all, animated out and, like, ready to go inky and watery.
[1686] With shell skinning, what do you think?
[1687] Skin shelling.
[1688] Skin shelling?
[1689] Yeah.
[1690] It's a new concept on Tri -Bomb.
[1691] I don't know if you heard about it.
[1692] No, it's not.
[1693] So, yeah, I don't care.
[1694] No, it's not.
[1695] It's Capcom.
[1696] Still a little weird.
[1697] 2011 for me. I don't know.
[1698] Because they had so much stuff in the last two or three years.
[1699] It feels like they're going through a big transition.
[1700] I mean, the head of their company just took off relatively recently.
[1701] So it's like they've got that.
[1702] They've got turnover.
[1703] They've got games coming out, though.
[1704] And the games look all right.
[1705] See how that stuff turns out.
[1706] The kind of core stuff that they have traditionally been good at still appears to be good.
[1707] It's good to see them.
[1708] They're reaching out in interesting directions.
[1709] It's good to see them try new IP.
[1710] Yeah.
[1711] I mean, Dragon's Dogma, for as dumb as the name is, and for as weird as those trailers look, I think if that game lines up just right, it'll be really cool.
[1712] It has a shot, anyway.
[1713] So, I don't know.
[1714] Kind of see.
[1715] That Hydra looked cool.
[1716] Yeah.
[1717] Taking down griffins on their back.
[1718] Griffin Fighter.
[1719] Griffin Fighter's pretty cool.
[1720] So that's what I've been playing.
[1721] Why don't you guys join me as we move along to the news.
[1722] I'm ready.
[1723] Put on your Simon hat.
[1724] Yeah.
[1725] Today, meaning the day we're recording this, not the day that this is going up, is Persona 4 day.
[1726] I know it.
[1727] Yeah.
[1728] I almost didn't come in today.
[1729] Yeah.
[1730] It's Persona 4 day.
[1731] What does that mean?
[1732] That means that the timeline in Persona 4 begins today.
[1733] Begins today.
[1734] Today is the day that Charlie gets off of the train in Abba.
[1735] He's probably gone off already.
[1736] It's a little later in the day.
[1737] Charlie gets off whenever he wants.
[1738] I wouldn't worry about him.
[1739] He's met Nanako.
[1740] He's already thinking, like, that's a girl that looks like she could use a lamp.
[1741] You guys want me to leave?
[1742] I'll just go outside.
[1743] Well, does he go to school yet?
[1744] Has he met Chia?
[1745] Not the first day, no. Is it cloudy today?
[1746] No, I don't think so.
[1747] They go to the gas station.
[1748] They meet the mysterious gas station attendant.
[1749] Big mistakes.
[1750] Yeah.
[1751] Do we look in a refrigerator for something to eat?
[1752] Yeah.
[1753] Not on the first – I don't think on the first day.
[1754] Well, you're not going to find anything.
[1755] Yeah, yeah.
[1756] That's for sure.
[1757] Yeah.
[1758] What the hell are you guys talking about?
[1759] You should probably go to bed because you're exhausted.
[1760] Yeah.
[1761] You should probably go to bed early today because you're exhausted.
[1762] I am exhausted.
[1763] So they have had a countdown timer ticking down for the past few days now, and people hacked around that and figured out that they are announcing Persona 4 Animation.
[1764] What?
[1765] Which is an anime coming from Anaplex, apparently.
[1766] Got punched in the Anaplex.
[1767] Yeah, he took it straight to the Anaplexes.
[1768] In the Anaplex.
[1769] Saw Mission Impossible at the Anaplex last Thursday.
[1770] It's awesome.
[1771] Yeah, so I don't know.
[1772] Anaheim, nine theaters.
[1773] So you guys aren't as excited about this, I would assume.
[1774] No, I'm not.
[1775] Yo, it's anime.
[1776] I already know how that story ends.
[1777] I'm maybe interested in seeing it.
[1778] Lots of depressed feelings from childhood.
[1779] I'm not excited because we made the story the way it should be.
[1780] The right choices.
[1781] All the right choices.
[1782] I don't need to see Frank West's interpretation.
[1783] Yeah, exactly.
[1784] It's like, what if Frank West was here?
[1785] What would be different?
[1786] Yo, Chie.
[1787] Everything.
[1788] PP.
[1789] Oh, God.
[1790] So, yeah, I don't want anybody else's...
[1791] Also, they've totally boned it up by naming the main character.
[1792] Charlie.
[1793] Yeah, but they've renamed Charlie to...
[1794] He's playing somebody else?
[1795] Yu Narukami.
[1796] What?
[1797] Yeah.
[1798] Was that his name in...
[1799] He had no...
[1800] His name was Charlie Sinoku, right?
[1801] His name was Charlie Sinoku.
[1802] Wow.
[1803] Yeah.
[1804] So Charlie will be playing somebody else for the duration of this anime.
[1805] Yeah.
[1806] Okay.
[1807] He's already played Souji Seta in the manga version.
[1808] He's a good actor.
[1809] So you know what?
[1810] This actually has led me to think about this whole thing of this being the day that Persona 4 starts.
[1811] Mm -hmm.
[1812] is when we were talking about having timelines on the site.
[1813] Oh, I remember timelines.
[1814] Yeah.
[1815] Oh, that's a great idea.
[1816] Yeah, we should totally do that.
[1817] But, like, game time timelines?
[1818] Yeah, yeah, like game time and real time.
[1819] Yes.
[1820] So, in case, so, you know, we would be able to have what happened today in video games.
[1821] And it would say, like, you know, April 11th, 2011, Persona 4 starts.
[1822] But it might say, like, April 11th, 20XX, this happens.
[1823] Or April 11th, unspecified year.
[1824] And you can roll in like birthdays of real people and all this stuff.
[1825] 50 years from now.
[1826] Yeah.
[1827] Project.
[1828] The insects invaded.
[1829] Yeah, exactly.
[1830] Just every single date that is ever associated with a video game gets entered into the timeline for that game.
[1831] That's insane.
[1832] Yeah.
[1833] That's crazy.
[1834] These are things that we sat in that glass room thinking about before you started.
[1835] That's crazy.
[1836] Yeah.
[1837] Yeah.
[1838] It was crazy.
[1839] Still remains.
[1840] It didn't end up on the site.
[1841] It's one of those things where we sit there and we get really jazzed up for it.
[1842] And then we think about like, well, who's actually going to really use this?
[1843] Like who's like, who's this?
[1844] What problem are we actually solving here today?
[1845] In addition to like the hundreds of real problems that still have to be actually solved before the site can launch.
[1846] Sure.
[1847] Yeah.
[1848] I get on it.
[1849] Yeah.
[1850] We'll put that in the CD -ROM edition of Giant Bomb.
[1851] Yeah.
[1852] That's right.
[1853] Order it now.
[1854] Giant Bomb Encarta.
[1855] Yeah.
[1856] Seven CDs.
[1857] So, anime of Persona 4.
[1858] I was hoping it would be a Persona 5.
[1859] Did they show art style?
[1860] Is there a trailer?
[1861] Yeah.
[1862] There's no trailer.
[1863] They showed an art style.
[1864] It looks like Persona 4, but slightly more.
[1865] If that's possible.
[1866] Like what if Chie sounds like it's not going to be the same voice actress?
[1867] Well, who knows if they're even going to dub it into English.
[1868] So there's that.
[1869] I imagine if they do dub it into English because Atlas US just seems to be really good at reusing the same dudes over and over again.
[1870] It would be the same.
[1871] That they would get the same people.
[1872] Okay, let me put it this way.
[1873] They have to fucking get the same people.
[1874] They had better get the same people if they're going to do it.
[1875] If they're going to do it.
[1876] If you're not going to get the same people, don't do it.
[1877] Just don't do it.
[1878] Fan subs.
[1879] What?
[1880] When's that come out?
[1881] I have no idea.
[1882] I don't know.
[1883] It's not even officially announced yet.
[1884] By the time this goes up, the countdown timer will still be ticking down.
[1885] Yeah, that universe ends.
[1886] How long did it last?
[1887] It was a year.
[1888] It'll be a year from now.
[1889] It'll be a year in Charlie's life.
[1890] How many episodes are they going to fuse?
[1891] Yeah, how many fusing episodes will they have?
[1892] That's a really...
[1893] I wonder if they'll just go, like, Pokemon style and be like, he just starts with, like, Jack Frost and, like, that's his, like, persona or whatever the Inazi, the lightning dude.
[1894] Izanagi.
[1895] Izanagi will stay with him, like, the entire time.
[1896] I'm more excited for the anime version of the endurance run.
[1897] So somebody watching the anime, anime, Vinny and Jeff.
[1898] Yeah, they've got different voice actors for Vinny and Jeff.
[1899] And then Pinchuk will watch that and talk over it.
[1900] Oh, man. Cultural phenomenon.
[1901] Yeah.
[1902] So Persona 4 Endurance Run.
[1903] Feel free to start watching that again.
[1904] Yeah, catch up.
[1905] Enjoy it again for the first time.
[1906] Yeah.
[1907] Because this is coming out eventually.
[1908] I don't know.
[1909] It's p4a .jp, I think, is the address for it.
[1910] Continuing on with news.
[1911] George Hots.
[1912] Hots with a Z. Who's that?
[1913] GeoHot.
[1914] Oh.
[1915] Okay.
[1916] The guy that hacked the PlayStation 3 and all that stuff.
[1917] Yeah.
[1918] He has settled.
[1919] And how great is it?
[1920] Like, you know, his name is out there as Geohot.
[1921] Yeah.
[1922] And it turns out dude's name is George Hotz.
[1923] That's how they found him.
[1924] Yeah.
[1925] And when they first started saying the name George Hotz out there, I figured that was just like a funny joke.
[1926] Yeah.
[1927] Like he just came up with a real sounding name.
[1928] Anyway.
[1929] It's like calling yourself Snide.
[1930] Kind of.
[1931] Yeah.
[1932] He has settled with Sony.
[1933] What did he settle?
[1934] In the lawsuit.
[1935] They were trying to get him for hacking the system and putting all that information out there and violating the terms of service.
[1936] What does that involve when you settle with a large, huge corporation like that?
[1937] Does he owe them like a billion dollars?
[1938] No. He actually – all he has to do apparently is never circumvent security systems on anything ever again.
[1939] Anything.
[1940] That is what he agreed to.
[1941] Not even just Sony products.
[1942] Apparently it's across the board.
[1943] Why is life worth living?
[1944] I know.
[1945] I mean really.
[1946] If he rips a DVD, he goes to jail.
[1947] Basically.
[1948] We told you, George.
[1949] Yeah.
[1950] But I owned it.
[1951] So, you know, that information is all already out there.
[1952] And now there are other people that have picked up that ball and run with it.
[1953] It's not like they're putting a genie back in a bottle and this horrible piracy thing went away.
[1954] It's just that he gets to not live in South America.
[1955] So, yeah.
[1956] So you're saying like Sony in a Sony boardroom is like.
[1957] Well, now that that's done, all right.
[1958] Let's get back to the business of making games.
[1959] Oh, wait.
[1960] How are we doing on that PlayStation 4?
[1961] Because now that security is airtight, got that George guy under wraps.
[1962] I heard there's a Kaza thing running around.
[1963] Right, yeah.
[1964] Give me Phil Kaza.
[1965] Let's settle this right now.
[1966] Jim LimeWires.
[1967] Eddie Napster.
[1968] We're on a roll.
[1969] Let's take this.
[1970] I don't understand what the R -I -A had a problem with.
[1971] The cartel down.
[1972] They should probably hire that guy.
[1973] He came up with some pretty good iPhone exploit stuff before the PlayStation 3 stuff.
[1974] Because Japan makes pretty smart moves when it comes to that kind of stuff.
[1975] Right.
[1976] Yeah.
[1977] He clearly has a knack for this sort of thing.
[1978] So maybe he should be designing security systems for consoles.
[1979] Should he put on that white hat?
[1980] Yeah, maybe.
[1981] I don't know.
[1982] So that's it?
[1983] That's it for that, I guess.
[1984] At least from him.
[1985] And with all that lawsuit stuff that Sony threw out there, a lot of the people who were also working in that area went further underground.
[1986] basically abandoned their Twitter accounts, abandoned all of their stuff, but continued to work.
[1987] I don't know if this will change anything.
[1988] Only Carmen San Diego knows.
[1989] Yeah, exactly.
[1990] They've joined up with her cartel.
[1991] Found this glove in Paris.
[1992] The warrant.
[1993] I don't know.
[1994] Piracy is now an issue on the PlayStation 3 because of all this stuff, and that's probably not going to go away anytime soon.
[1995] I feel like I'm too old to care.
[1996] Kinda.
[1997] Yeah.
[1998] But it just happens.
[1999] It's pretty much like a constant.
[2000] Why are we all surprised?
[2001] I mean, it just happens every time.
[2002] Well, I'll wait for a little bit, but then it always resurfaces.
[2003] But I feel like I'm at an age now where I don't know.
[2004] I just buy the game.
[2005] I don't know.
[2006] I'm not downloading where's files.
[2007] Yeah, it's like there's a...
[2008] I feel bad.
[2009] A point where you're a kid who has more time than money.
[2010] Yeah.
[2011] And you're going to get into a lot of nefarious shit.
[2012] Yeah.
[2013] And then you just become lazy.
[2014] Yeah, you just become lazy.
[2015] You know what's easier?
[2016] I push this button.
[2017] It charges my credit card, and I have the game.
[2018] I don't have to worry about any viruses on my computer.
[2019] And then you get real lazy, and you're like, I have that game on my shelf, but I'm at the computer right now.
[2020] I can get it on Steam.
[2021] I can just get it on Steam, then I have to put the CD in.
[2022] All right, fine.
[2023] Just this one time, though.
[2024] I actually had to find.
[2025] I found a no CD crack for Crysis so I didn't have to get the CD off my shelf because I didn't have it on Steam.
[2026] So then I had to find this no CD crack because I was like, I don't want to be swapping out discs.
[2027] What other discs are you putting in your system?
[2028] I don't know.
[2029] The disc, I have no idea.
[2030] The Giant Bomb CD, ROM edition.
[2031] Right.
[2032] Yeah, that we've been working on.
[2033] But then I couldn't patch the game.
[2034] I don't know, whatever.
[2035] It was real.
[2036] It's a dark point in the weekend.
[2037] That's disgusting.
[2038] Everything you just said is disgusting.
[2039] Yeah.
[2040] Well, I was going to buy it again.
[2041] Just be like, I'll just buy this game.
[2042] That is also disgusting.
[2043] It started out disgusting when you said you were playing Crisis.
[2044] That's good.
[2045] Best looking game of 2011.
[2046] 2011's 2007 game of the year.
[2047] You heard it here first.
[2048] Best graphics of the year.
[2049] Let's not give that game that much credit.
[2050] So, yeah, I don't know.
[2051] The piracy stuff.
[2052] I think that part of this – like Sony's reaction always seemed a little crazy to me because just trying to sue people that released the information seemed like a really dumb approach because the information was already out there.
[2053] But at the same time, if you look at what they did with the PSP, which was jack fucking shit, just kill a – Don't you think when like a hacker gets caught or something, like he should have to do some sort of like indentured servitude?
[2054] at least towards the company, like, somehow.
[2055] Kind of.
[2056] I don't know.
[2057] Like, I don't know.
[2058] Like, it just seems like it gets off, like, a little bit easy.
[2059] It's like, yeah, don't do it again.
[2060] Well, that for sure.
[2061] Well, like, the alternative is you have him come in there and work as an invented servant and then fill all your code full of back doors for his friends.
[2062] Well, I guess that's true, too, yeah.
[2063] You could never really have something like that, but I don't know.
[2064] Just have to do QA.
[2065] Oh, God.
[2066] Yeah.
[2067] Exactly.
[2068] But they had to kind of come out and show to retailers and they had to show to all the third -party licensees and stuff that they were going to take a harder stance on the PS3 than they did on PSP because it's like you talk to a lot of developers about PSP and they say like, we can't make money on this platform because piracy is so bad.
[2069] So it seemed like from the beginning, as soon as Sony started to react to this stuff, it seemed like that was the real goal was to put on a big show and say we're not taking this lying down.
[2070] But it doesn't – as far as I can tell, it doesn't change a damn thing.
[2071] Do you think this will all change when – A lot of this stuff becomes like Steam where it's purchased through some sort of storefront.
[2072] I think that that will go a long way and that will kill the used game problem.
[2073] They could get around it by just serializing everything if they wanted to, just put a serial number with every single game.
[2074] The catch there is that there's some significant percentage of people that own these consoles that still don't have them hooked up to the internet.
[2075] And those are the people that would never be able to use a Steam -like system.
[2076] So I don't think they're willing to cut those people off yet.
[2077] But they will by the next platform.
[2078] They have to.
[2079] I would think so, yeah.
[2080] I mean just to save costs.
[2081] Just for security.
[2082] Yeah, save costs, security and all that stuff.
[2083] But it's like, well, what do you think?
[2084] I mean here we are.
[2085] We run websites and there's people talking in different parts of the world trying to meter access and tear out stuff and make – With all this Netflix traffic and all this torrent traffic and all this stuff, the internet is getting ridiculous bandwidth -wise.
[2086] It's getting crowded.
[2087] Yeah.
[2088] We've got to start kicking people off.
[2089] But that's normal.
[2090] I mean that's like any tech adoption.
[2091] It's like, oh man, it's all happening.
[2092] Pool's closed.
[2093] Yeah, it's just – that's – It will restructure itself.
[2094] The only thing that will change is people just have to pay more for their internet.
[2095] But that will be OK because you will be dropping it out of like look at me. Like I'm paying for as high quality internet as I can get at home.
[2096] Right?
[2097] So I'm paying $100 at home.
[2098] Just for the internet.
[2099] Just for the internet.
[2100] But I'm not paying anything for cable because why the fuck would I need cable right now?
[2101] Right.
[2102] Like sports.
[2103] You know, that's about it.
[2104] I need to – I'd like to watch an NFL game every once in a while.
[2105] I'll go to a bar.
[2106] Like it all – I'm just saying it balances out.
[2107] Like if you're – yeah, you're going to pay all this kind of stuff.
[2108] It sucks that people do all this kind of stuff.
[2109] See, I feel the other way.
[2110] If I need to like – I'll watch a sports game at home.
[2111] But if I need to like download porn or something like that, I'll go to a bar.
[2112] Yeah.
[2113] Yeah.
[2114] Yeah.
[2115] I'm watching – Yeah.
[2116] Yeah.
[2117] Of course.
[2118] That's why I bought that Touchmaster and just put it in our bar.
[2119] Yeah.
[2120] What?
[2121] What?
[2122] Why are your hands sticky?
[2123] I think next generation they will still have the same security problems as they have now.
[2124] That's my prediction.
[2125] Games being available on Steam does not make them immune to piracy.
[2126] It just means that the process is different.
[2127] I feel like as long as people are making games, humans are making games, other humans will want to crack that security.
[2128] There will always be people that have more time than money.
[2129] People get a kick out of it.
[2130] Yeah, there's definitely that aspect.
[2131] I broke it.
[2132] I did it.
[2133] I still get a sick thrill every time I re -jail break my iPhone, which I did last night.
[2134] That's just because the iPhone, they just break that thing on purpose.
[2135] I felt so silly when I do that with my Kindle.
[2136] Like, this is the dumbest thing in the world.
[2137] Like, I can't change the goddamn wallpaper.
[2138] Yeah, I only do it because I want to change the text message tones.
[2139] And it's just like, why is this?
[2140] It's silly.
[2141] Why am I doing this?
[2142] It's stupid.
[2143] No CD cracks.
[2144] No CD cracks.
[2145] That's the future.
[2146] There you go.
[2147] That's the future.
[2148] The future is May 3rd.
[2149] Add this to the timeline.
[2150] Call of Duty Black Ops Map Pack.
[2151] May 3rd.
[2152] The Escalation Pack is coming.
[2153] Four more multiplayer maps.
[2154] One more zombie map.
[2155] And they say that the zombie map will have a new cast of playable characters.
[2156] How blown away are you guys?
[2157] I have to get back in the room.
[2158] All right.
[2159] What did you say?
[2160] I was blown away.
[2161] First thing you said came out of your mouth.
[2162] There's a sequel to NBA Jam coming out.
[2163] NBA Jam On Fire Edition coming to downloadable systems in the fall.
[2164] I'm not believing it.
[2165] That's Marv Alberts.
[2166] Yeah.
[2167] He's on fire.
[2168] No, they are changing.
[2169] The AI is supposed to be more adaptive.
[2170] They're updating the rosters and doing some other stuff.
[2171] That game apparently did really well on the iPhone.
[2172] Does great in our office.
[2173] Yeah, the original does.
[2174] No one's playing the re -release.
[2175] That much.
[2176] But yeah, I don't know.
[2177] They're doing another one and they're doing it downloadable and making some changes.
[2178] Team Fire is back.
[2179] Tag mode, so you don't have to play as one guy the whole time.
[2180] You can always play as the guy with the ball.
[2181] Did you really say it did well on the iPhone?
[2182] Yeah.
[2183] Apparently it did well on the iPhone.
[2184] Like they're issuing roster updates for that version, which seems ridiculous.
[2185] It does seem a little ridiculous.
[2186] There was a funny thing in the press release for NBA Jam On Fire edition.
[2187] was that they said in there that simulation basketball will be returning next fall.
[2188] What?
[2189] Because you remember, this is EA issuing the release, so you remember NBA Elite got canned last year and they went through all that stuff.
[2190] I just thought it was interesting that at no point did they say...
[2191] NBA Elite will be finally making its way to shelves next year.
[2192] I have to imagine that that name is totally burned.
[2193] Oh, in addition to?
[2194] In addition to NBA Jam.
[2195] Okay, I thought they were calling it NBA Jam.
[2196] No, no, no, no, no. This is just like, hey, we're doing this for this year.
[2197] And look out next year and we'll get back to real basketball.
[2198] Some kind of basketball.
[2199] But I thought it was interesting that they didn't call it NBA Elite anywhere in there.
[2200] You're going to call it real basketball.
[2201] Yeah, Real Sports Basketball 2.
[2202] Talking Real Sports Basketball 2.
[2203] It'll be Jordan versus Bird 2012.
[2204] I could totally get behind that game.
[2205] You made me a new Jordan versus Bird.
[2206] Would you want Jordan versus Bird or Dr. J versus Larry Bird?
[2207] I want Robert Parrish somewhere in there.
[2208] You want Spud Webb versus Muggsy Bows?
[2209] Yeah, no doubt.
[2210] The two most dominant players of their respective eras?
[2211] Yeah.
[2212] You want Dominique Wilkins versus Suit Salesman?
[2213] How crazy was that?
[2214] What is Zomni Logan showing up in the news for?
[2215] Why is he beating up dudes that he owns suits to?
[2216] Neat gets his.
[2217] Don't worry about Neat.
[2218] Burnout Crash.
[2219] This was mentioned by the Australian Ratings Board as a game in the Burnout series.
[2220] What does that mean?
[2221] It's one of those things like Street Fighter Arcade Edition was getting mentioned in various ratings.
[2222] When they post online, like, hey, we've rated this game this rating.
[2223] And you're like, what game is that?
[2224] What the hell are you talking about?
[2225] You're a jerk.
[2226] Burnout Crash was mentioned there.
[2227] Just shut up and keep banning games.
[2228] Right.
[2229] What is Burnout Crash?
[2230] We don't know.
[2231] Sounds like a downloadable game to me. What is Burnout Crash?
[2232] What is burnoutcrash .com?
[2233] It's everything.
[2234] Yeah.
[2235] So, yeah.
[2236] So it sounds like we'll be getting more burnout in the near future.
[2237] And E3 sure sounds like a good place to announce something like a new video game.
[2238] A persistent online world of crashing.
[2239] Yes.
[2240] Burnout crash.
[2241] But it actually means, like, the game will crash.
[2242] There's no blood.
[2243] No blood.
[2244] I wonder how that – because all the Criterion guys worked on the Need for Speed stuff.
[2245] Yeah, on Pursuit.
[2246] So I wonder how, like – how good of an, you know, was it worth those guys' time?
[2247] To work on Need for Speed?
[2248] Yeah, to jump.
[2249] I know from a game perspective, but I'm just wondering, like, which franchise is...
[2250] Need for Speed outsells Burnout and always has.
[2251] Really?
[2252] So it probably...
[2253] It probably was the best -selling Criterion game of all time, if I had to guess.
[2254] Plus, when they're like, you can work on this, or we can...
[2255] Or we can show you the door.
[2256] No, it's cool.
[2257] We'll work on this.
[2258] It's great.
[2259] No, Black 2.
[2260] Forget it.
[2261] Shoot the barrel, the guys die.
[2262] Forget it.
[2263] That game's been made already.
[2264] Yeah, so it's...
[2265] Yeah, I think that that did well for them.
[2266] I still think that Burnout Paradise is probably the best game that they have developed.
[2267] Even better than Hot Pursuit.
[2268] I love the way Hot Pursuit looks.
[2269] Especially on the PC.
[2270] Incredible looking game.
[2271] But yeah, Burnout Crash, no idea what it is other than that that sounds like a downloadable game focused on the crash mode to me. But we'll see.
[2272] Or maybe it doesn't exist at all and it's just crazy.
[2273] But that rarely is the case.
[2274] And that's it for news.
[2275] That's all we got for that.
[2276] That's it?
[2277] That was all right.
[2278] Yeah.
[2279] Yeah.
[2280] Decent stack of stuff.
[2281] Releases?
[2282] How about new releases?
[2283] Not a lot out this week.
[2284] Not a lot out.
[2285] Calm before the storm.
[2286] Yeah, well, it's the first couple of weeks of Q2, so everyone rushed out stuff for the end of Q1, and now they're back to not releasing stuff.
[2287] But next week is the week.
[2288] The week.
[2289] What's this week?
[2290] This week on XBLA, we've got Yara's Revenge and Might and Magic Clash of Heroes.
[2291] Might and Magic Clash of Heroes will also be coming to the PlayStation 3 downloadable side of things.
[2292] What is that?
[2293] It's a video game.
[2294] I know, but Might Magic, like, I haven't heard that outside of, like, a Japanese DS game.
[2295] You were at PAX East.
[2296] Might Magic all up in PAX East.
[2297] I was there.
[2298] Yeah, you didn't see the card tables.
[2299] Oh, you know what?
[2300] It's a port of the DS game.
[2301] Oh, so there you go.
[2302] I was going to say, because they're mostly, they've mostly moved to the DS.
[2303] Yeah, no, Kapiabara developed that.
[2304] Capybara.
[2305] Independent dudes.
[2306] I feel like the Gracies win.
[2307] They're Canadians or something.
[2308] Capybara.
[2309] So that's out.
[2310] Also on PSN, Dungeon Hunter Alliance, which is another one of those Game Loft games.
[2311] Looks kind of like a four -player, like Dark Alliance, kind of dungeon -crawly sort of thing.
[2312] I like Dark Alliance.
[2313] This is, mind you, from the eight seconds of the trailer I watched.
[2314] So it could be something totally different, but that's exactly what it looked like to me. And Assassin's Creed 1.
[2315] I don't know if the description wasn't clear on what that was.
[2316] I imagine it's just the full game coming as a downloadable.
[2317] I thought it was there already.
[2318] Does it say Assassin's Creed 1?
[2319] It's just Assassin's Creed.
[2320] Oh.
[2321] And talks about Altair.
[2322] But I wonder if it might be another game loft like we are bringing phone games to your PlayStation 3.
[2323] What a good idea.
[2324] Or whatever.
[2325] Retail pretty thin.
[2326] Patapon 3.
[2327] Michael Jackson experience for 360 and PS3.
[2328] That's connect, right?
[2329] That is connect.
[2330] We have that in here.
[2331] We can connect.
[2332] No, we already did the Wii version.
[2333] Let's not embarrass ourselves anymore.
[2334] They didn't enclose a glove with the 360 version as far as I know, so forget it.
[2335] And Rio, based on the movie.
[2336] It's got birds?
[2337] I don't know.
[2338] That was the Angry Birds, Rio.
[2339] That was their big thing.
[2340] Yeah, so that's a tie -in, but this is actually just Rio, and it's a minigame collection.
[2341] So the back of the box says, over 40 minigames.
[2342] And then on the front of the box, there's a little thing that says, with three bonus minigames.
[2343] So 43?
[2344] No, over 40.
[2345] Over 43.
[2346] So 44.
[2347] Yeah.
[2348] Which I thought was just crazy.
[2349] It's like, we got over 40, and this one...
[2350] Which is all of them probably, I don't know, I don't know what it's compared to.
[2351] But are they all Rio games?
[2352] You got three more.
[2353] And it's all based on Rio, this bird movie.
[2354] How can you have 44...
[2355] It's fucking...
[2356] What do you mean?
[2357] These birds are running, these birds are spitting, shoot up food into the birds that are moving back and forth like a basketball hoop.
[2358] You take the Touchmaster from the back of the bar, you take out the porn, you put in birds and you ship it.
[2359] Like it's...
[2360] That's 40.
[2361] That's 40.
[2362] That's at least 35.
[2363] All right.
[2364] Solitaire, but it's bird -a -tear.
[2365] All right.
[2366] It sounds fabulous.
[2367] I don't know.
[2368] It's Rio.
[2369] Crisis.
[2370] So Crisis this week.
[2371] Dino D -Day.
[2372] Yeah, play lots of Crisis.
[2373] Whatever.
[2374] I'm currently neck deep in next week's games.
[2375] Which is nice.
[2376] I got it if you don't want to put a CD in there.
[2377] Kids at home, don't download no CDs correct.
[2378] It's not worth it.
[2379] It would have been worth it for me to spend.
[2380] It's actually like $40.
[2381] Yeah.
[2382] It's still Crisis on Steam.
[2383] I thought it was going to be $20.
[2384] Don't.
[2385] The original Crisis?
[2386] Put the fucking disk in the drive.
[2387] Yeah.
[2388] I don't even think my CD drive is hooked up.
[2389] I think it's just disconnected.
[2390] Well, you just had it installed still?
[2391] I have it.
[2392] Well, I have everything installed still.
[2393] I don't even want it.
[2394] I do have trouble with something.
[2395] I added a Steam shortcut.
[2396] I'm still deathly worried about losing my Wizardry 8 discs every time I pull them out.
[2397] Because, like, I have it installed and I'm like, oh, yeah, I want to play something.
[2398] And then I got to go find the disc.
[2399] You know, there's, like, lots of those discs when you have those games.
[2400] Yeah.
[2401] Like, I still got to have, like, a binder of all these, you know, old games.
[2402] Startopia, that's what's in the drive.
[2403] Yeah, my drive works.
[2404] Okay.
[2405] Yeah, I don't want to take that out.
[2406] Startopia, of course not.
[2407] Because then I have to open a binder.
[2408] Right.
[2409] Oh, also new releases.
[2410] DSiWare Art of Ink from Samarasa.
[2411] One player, E10+.
[2412] Submerge yourself in the colorful world of tattoo art. I always do.
[2413] That is what that is.
[2414] So heroin and girls with low self -esteem.
[2415] All right.
[2416] I'm there.
[2417] Working in one of the most prestigious studios in town, you can turn your stylist into a tattoo machine.
[2418] That sounds like a terrible job.
[2419] What do you do?
[2420] I'm a fucking tattoo machine.
[2421] What do you want?
[2422] A fucking tiger on your lower back?
[2423] Done.
[2424] Other tattoo artists will take note of your success and challenge you to prove your skills.
[2425] Defeating them will give you an insight into their techniques and help you become the next tattoo master.
[2426] What is that on?
[2427] That's DSI wear.
[2428] All right.
[2429] I want to draw really bad tattoos with the stylus.
[2430] Well, it'll cost you $8 to do it.
[2431] Oh, God.
[2432] Also, Slingo Quest, which I think is like Slingo, like the game show thing.
[2433] Escape Trick, The Secret of Rock City Prison.
[2434] It's a great name for a game.
[2435] Play With Birds for WiiWare.
[2436] Just play with birds.
[2437] Is that one of the mini -games in Rio?
[2438] Yeah, probably.
[2439] Play With Birds is an original cartoon bird game for players of all ages.
[2440] You play with birds, you get burned.
[2441] That's right.
[2442] You play with women.
[2443] Dozens.
[2444] This one has dozens of bird minigames, including Birdman, Catch Thief, and Bird Race.
[2445] Catch Thief.
[2446] Not Catch A Thief.
[2447] Catch Thief.
[2448] And then a demo for Fast Draw Showdown, which I don't know.
[2449] That is it for new releases.
[2450] Now we've got the important ones out of the way.
[2451] You did forget Dino D -Day.
[2452] I don't know if that's a new release.
[2453] That's last week.
[2454] That's that.
[2455] How do you guys feel about email?
[2456] Where's Brad?
[2457] Emails!
[2458] Oh, hey Brad.
[2459] I thought you were on assignment.
[2460] I'm on assignment.
[2461] Got on the Zephyr line.
[2462] Brad's here.
[2463] Kick this off.
[2464] Bombcast at giantbomb .com is the email address, though I took all these from Formspring.
[2465] So what happened to all those?
[2466] Those kids are just all pissed off.
[2467] They crafted all these perfect emails.
[2468] Those are emails for Ryan.
[2469] That were timely.
[2470] Yeah, those go to Ryan.
[2471] So hopefully he'll just answer them himself at home.
[2472] So I don't have access to that stuff.
[2473] So here's Ryan's phone number.
[2474] Right.
[2475] Just give him a call.
[2476] So I've got to kind of sift through these a little bit.
[2477] Vinny, you want to ask me a question while he's looking at it?
[2478] You can ask me a question.
[2479] Yeah.
[2480] No CD cracks.
[2481] What?
[2482] That's not a question.
[2483] Well, I'm thinking of the question to add to it.
[2484] Here's a good question.
[2485] You think they're illegal?
[2486] Are you bypassing the security?
[2487] I've used no CD cracks mostly because I think they're a nuisance.
[2488] The game check.
[2489] Yeah, it's like I've got it.
[2490] I've got the game already.
[2491] If it's just like the typical crack where it just – just so it doesn't need to read it before starting, I have no problem doing that.
[2492] I think they're illegal.
[2493] Also, a lot of these questions are anonymous.
[2494] I know they're anonymous.
[2495] Keep that in mind.
[2496] I like scented candles.
[2497] Do you like scented candles?
[2498] That's a question.
[2499] It depends what the scent is.
[2500] We got that.
[2501] That came in.
[2502] Someone wrote that.
[2503] Someone typed that into a form.
[2504] I had a bad experience with the scented candle where like, you know, I've got the scented candle where it's like you use it before a girl comes over because you just don't want it to smell like old cardboard.
[2505] Like, you know, pretty much old heavy metal magazines.
[2506] Yeah.
[2507] And so I had like, you know, a guy stay with me for like a week.
[2508] And of course, you know, then those things that you just have kind of sitting around get used like a scented candle.
[2509] And of course he just started and.
[2510] Forgot about it.
[2511] And the setting candle ended up all over a carpet.
[2512] Oh, like wax in the carpet?
[2513] Wax.
[2514] Red.
[2515] Wax.
[2516] Oh, great.
[2517] It's like a murder scene.
[2518] I got to get that security deposit back.
[2519] Well, no, I did.
[2520] Because in California, you have to actually replace the carpets every two years.
[2521] So as long as you stay in a place for two years.
[2522] Yeah, it's like part of weird rental law out here.
[2523] Wow.
[2524] So I totally got it all back.
[2525] I didn't care.
[2526] But I just had like red carpet wax for...
[2527] A year.
[2528] Let's say a year.
[2529] Dave mentioned he'd be answering questions, so I'm curious about the infrastructure of your site.
[2530] Mainly because I'm in the middle of implementing it myself.
[2531] How do you handle load balancing and dev test code pushes?
[2532] So our load balancing stuff, we use this thing called Nginx, which is a – it's made by a bunch of Russians.
[2533] You can look at some of this stuff.
[2534] We've got it up on our actual whiskey .com blog, I believe.
[2535] Whiskeymedia .com.
[2536] Whiskeymedia .com blog, which we talk about some of this kind of stuff.
[2537] But we use NGINX for our load balancing.
[2538] There's basically just a split.
[2539] We use EC2 for all of our actual servers.
[2540] So we just kind of spin them up as we need them.
[2541] NGINX distributes the load, which we'll use that for not only that, but for like our chat servers.
[2542] So for example, when our chat went all buggy this past week.
[2543] Yeah.
[2544] Did it fix itself?
[2545] I wasn't here on Friday.
[2546] I wasn't here either.
[2547] I was on assignment.
[2548] I don't think as many people were having as many issues.
[2549] So that's for people that don't know load balancing is when you actually split the traffic of a website across not one server but across like 10.
[2550] So Jeff comes in, he hits server one.
[2551] Vinny comes in, he hits server two, and it gets all split out.
[2552] And is it hard to – I remember a problem.
[2553] Back in the old days was that sometimes you would have content appear on one of the servers but not others.
[2554] You'd sit there and refresh a page and sometimes something would show up one way and sometimes it would show up the other way.
[2555] Yeah, so the other side is that he's talking about as deployment.
[2556] We use a Python deployment framework called Fabric, which our own Jeff Forcier, who now works in -house.
[2557] And we use that basically to push and deploy our code from one site to the next.
[2558] And hopefully when you do stuff like that, it will clear cache across each server.
[2559] But in the old days, what you'd see is sometimes that cache wouldn't get cleared, so you'd see old versions of the website up in certain spots.
[2560] That was always a pain when there was like screenshots in place that shouldn't be there.
[2561] It's like, oh, God, we got to get it down.
[2562] Some people are still seeing it.
[2563] That was always a fun one.
[2564] And then we'd always quit.
[2565] We'd always get around and say, well, are you logged in?
[2566] Because we don't cache a lot of our stuff if you're logged in.
[2567] We'd make Jeff feel good about himself.
[2568] If he logged in as himself, then he wouldn't see the problem that was very obviously there.
[2569] No, I'm talking about older days than that.
[2570] Oh, those days.
[2571] Yeah.
[2572] Those dark days.
[2573] Yeah.
[2574] Another quick question.
[2575] Any idea how long until you guys start testing the new streaming method during live shows?
[2576] Justin has grown more and more dickish as of late.
[2577] Thanks.
[2578] So our big deal with that is we're basically a beta user of Amazon's – we do most of our hosting through Amazon.
[2579] So they have just started doing this live streaming component, which – We use – it's basically kind of a – there are a couple of reasons.
[2580] We've got to look at the cost of what that's going to be for us.
[2581] The bigger one though is that we've noticed that it doesn't work for some people.
[2582] We also can't really control the – The output that's coming out, the nice thing that Justin will do is it will – depending upon your connection, it can actually split out different feeds.
[2583] For us to do that, we have to do a lot of prep work to get something like that running on our end where we actually have to build the feeds on our side and then provide them separately.
[2584] So it's a little harder.
[2585] Like if everybody had great connections and they were all on similar environments, we'd be able to flip the switch tomorrow.
[2586] Take one solution and just switch to a different solution unless it's 100 % better.
[2587] So it's something that will definitely happen probably in the next couple months.
[2588] And we'll probably continue to do like what we've done the last couple weeks where, hey, let's try it out.
[2589] Let's see what it's like.
[2590] But it's one of those things that we need to work directly with Amazon first to get them to do.
[2591] A lot of it's not necessarily things that we can do on our own.
[2592] Sounds like YouTube is getting ready to test there.
[2593] There's lots of stuff.
[2594] Everybody's trying to do something.
[2595] So it's bad.
[2596] Like the tough gamble with tech stuff is you take those guesses.
[2597] So like we took guesses with our video encoding.
[2598] And we're like, yeah, who's going to drop HD?
[2599] What?
[2600] Chrome?
[2601] Really?
[2602] You guys are going to.
[2603] Jerks.
[2604] Oh, now we got to go back.
[2605] And so you end up in these weird spots in the tech world where there aren't standards set.
[2606] And you just kind of have to.
[2607] If you want to be progressive with the technology, you have to bet on a couple different horses, which sucks.
[2608] Especially when you have to re -encode every single video.
[2609] So for us, we're going to bet on a couple different horses.
[2610] And we hope certain solutions work, but they might not.
[2611] And we'll continue to try stuff out.
[2612] We still have weird stuff, and I see it pop up.
[2613] I don't really have good answers for it, but we see weird stuff where people who are watching some of the videos get corruption on the video player here and there, and they're still kind of getting that.
[2614] That is very definitely their end.
[2615] Yeah, I don't know what it is.
[2616] The source file is fine, and it's not something we can emulate on a lot of the computers here, so it's not happening.
[2617] I thought it was a CPU thing.
[2618] We can't figure out if it's a CPU -based thing or if it's a location -based thing.
[2619] If they're not streaming.
[2620] So I'm pretty certain that the – there are people – there are some random people that get dropouts from streaming where the video will basically just cut in the middle.
[2621] I'm pretty certain that that's just because their connection, while fast, isn't very persistent.
[2622] And I've noticed this happening in not as – developed sort of areas as some, though I'm sure it's happening, you know, in scattered places everywhere.
[2623] But it's just one of those things where, look, we're really one of the few people that puts out 40 minute long videos, you know, like on the Internet.
[2624] And to keep that kind of stream.
[2625] Yeah.
[2626] To keep your Internet connection like good, you know, consistently for 40 minutes is not only it's asking a lot of your ISP.
[2627] You know, to actually be able to do that.
[2628] And so sometimes I think what's happening is it's cutting out on their side just for like a second.
[2629] And then because of that, the video is basically like, oh, well, this video is over.
[2630] It's no longer.
[2631] Like the player goes like, oh, it must not.
[2632] Yeah.
[2633] We haven't changed our compression settings in a while.
[2634] We went back probably about two or three months ago and retooled some working with some of the users and stuff to be like, all right, does this work?
[2635] Does this work?
[2636] But we haven't touched it since then.
[2637] They changed their compression center.
[2638] No, we haven't done anything.
[2639] The internet got slower.
[2640] My internet at home seems like it's getting slower.
[2641] The internet in here got slower.
[2642] I had some problems in this office.
[2643] We have pretty fast internet here.
[2644] More and more people are getting on.
[2645] It's only going to happen.
[2646] Start paying more.
[2647] For your internet.
[2648] That's how they get you, man. I think I'm going to drop.
[2649] So I've had DSL for a long time, which is not as fast as cable, but at least I'm not in business with Comcast.
[2650] Yeah, that's my philosophy, which is why I'm paying what I am, and it kind of sucks.
[2651] But I can't deal with it anymore, so I think I'm going to have to switch.
[2652] And the ISP that I have right now is rolling out some kind of crazy fiber fusion thing, but I'm 4 ,000 feet.
[2653] Yeah.
[2654] Further away than I just sucks.
[2655] Is Mercs Inc. still in development?
[2656] Haven't heard anything on that game since pandemic closed down.
[2657] That is a good question.
[2658] I think that game is dead, but they did move it out of pandemic into EALA.
[2659] I heard.
[2660] So there was still work being done on it after the pandemic.
[2661] Was this essentially Mercs three?
[2662] It was like Mercs two technology, but in a multiplayer focused game or something, something along those lines.
[2663] At least that's how it looked.
[2664] Next question.
[2665] Can we please get a Hardcore Dave t -shirt?
[2666] Isn't it just a white beater?
[2667] That's the t -shirt.
[2668] You mean with Hardcore Dave on it?
[2669] What if it was a t -shirt that had a wife beater?
[2670] It was like a tuxedo t -shirt, but it was a wife beater t -shirt.
[2671] Could work.
[2672] Could work.
[2673] But would the arms and the rest of it be like skin colored?
[2674] No, I think it would just be black.
[2675] It would just be like this.
[2676] Wife beater hovering in space.
[2677] I'll give you the story behind Hardcore Dave showing up in our marketing materials.
[2678] It's pretty much because as you'd imagine – I don't know if you've seen our happy hours.
[2679] But you can pretty much tell that we're – a lot of times we're making up stuff kind of a few hours beforehand.
[2680] And not only are we doing that, we're deciding sometimes … There are requests of selling certain products literally a few hours before that.
[2681] So somebody will walk over to my desk and they'll be like, hey, can we – oh, here's this T -shirt we're going to sell.
[2682] I'm like, what?
[2683] And so I have to make a promo.
[2684] But then because it's a marketing thing, it then ends up like there needs to be like – specific text and so luckily we've kind of gotten past that point we realized like look the t -shirt design just needs to be up there we need to tell you where to go and we need to tell you the price right yeah but before that it could you know get a little more complicated than that and so i would always get frustrated and i would just be like well how about this i'm gonna put this on it what do you how do you think about that selling it yeah and hardcore dave just ended up on the marketing materials hardcore dave is not a marketing man I know, but that's why he's there.
[2685] He's a man of violence.
[2686] He's pissed off.
[2687] He's like pissed off.
[2688] He's like, why am I making this an hour ahead of time?
[2689] So there's Hardcore Dave.
[2690] Yeah.
[2691] Next question.
[2692] What the hell made you think it would be a good idea to take your phone with you kayaking?
[2693] Literally, that's what he wrote.
[2694] What if he got stranded?
[2695] No. Well, it is.
[2696] Look, there is a big kind of a fear like that is the way that I will die.
[2697] If I'm going to die right now, it will more than likely be by myself out in the middle of the bay.
[2698] Whatever, your girlfriend is going to accidentally shoot you.
[2699] Yeah, that could happen too.
[2700] I feel like that wouldn't happen.
[2701] You'd kayak, you'd flip over, and then a bear would jump out of the water and you'd have to fight it.
[2702] And that's how you died, slow motion fighting a bear.
[2703] The reason I had it out there was because I thought most of the time I get phone calls, it's Sunday.
[2704] Is kayaking boring?
[2705] Are you bored out there?
[2706] No, it's good.
[2707] Like imagine you now just kind of sitting in a kayak.
[2708] Here I am.
[2709] Yeah.
[2710] But I figured it would be kind of funny.
[2711] Like imagine if somebody called you up on the phone and they're like, hey, what are you doing?
[2712] I'm like, I'm on a fucking kayak right now in the middle.
[2713] I'm like, get out of town.
[2714] And I've been out there.
[2715] I've actually been out there a couple of times with my phone.
[2716] But this time.
[2717] It was a little choppier than normal.
[2718] You rolled the dice.
[2719] Trapped out.
[2720] Let me tell you something.
[2721] It is not fun to fall out of a kayak in April in San Francisco Bay.
[2722] That is not – that is cold.
[2723] And here's the other crazy thing.
[2724] It's hard to get back in these sea kayaks.
[2725] I remember you showing me those videos, those like tutorials of how to get in.
[2726] There was a good amount of fear of me being like – Because it keeps rolling, right?
[2727] Yeah.
[2728] If it's choppy, you basically have to go up from the backside.
[2729] It's not like you're just going in from the side.
[2730] Like you have to cowboy yourself up and then kind of slide back in.
[2731] And go in like legs first.
[2732] So what was – now that we're talking about this again, what was the kind of like you get back in, you're soaking wet, and you're just like, I'm going to fuck.
[2733] I'm just going home.
[2734] That's it.
[2735] I'm freezing.
[2736] I don't think I have hypothermia.
[2737] Like what is going through your head once you're in?
[2738] I was just – no. It was basically like, all right, it's not – I'm not freezing.
[2739] Like I'm not that cold.
[2740] It's not like really windy, so I'll be fine.
[2741] Did you just keep going?
[2742] Yeah, just went.
[2743] Well, I was on my way back.
[2744] So, you know, it took me another 30 minutes or whatever because it's not a fast sport.
[2745] But it's not like, you know, like you like kind of like stub your trip when you're walking on the sidewalk and try to like play it off like you were running or something.
[2746] No, I spent the next 30 minutes just contemplating switching phones.
[2747] And I was like, what am I going to do?
[2748] A new iPhone is probably out in like a month or maybe not.
[2749] Your wallet gets soaked.
[2750] No, I didn't have my wallet, but my keys.
[2751] Luckily, I had my keys in a pocket.
[2752] That was my biggest worry, that the keys were down at the bottom or something like that.
[2753] Next up, Dave takes his phone scuba diving.
[2754] Yeah.
[2755] Search for my keys.
[2756] So whatever.
[2757] Yeah, it was dumb.
[2758] But the cool thing was that I put it up on Twitter like a picture, and then immediately I get like 20 mentions where it's like, are you a fucking idiot?
[2759] And then, yeah.
[2760] Apparently, yes.
[2761] So.
[2762] Real talk.
[2763] Will Kid Icarus totally suck?
[2764] Jim in NYC wants to know.
[2765] Oh, NYC.
[2766] That's real talk.
[2767] Yeah.
[2768] I think you're the only one that's really seen it.
[2769] Is it going to totally suck?
[2770] Probably not.
[2771] No. All right.
[2772] Define totally suck.
[2773] Like you turn it on and it's like, guess what, fucker?
[2774] You just wasted your money.
[2775] No, it won't do that.
[2776] Well, I suspect it won't do that.
[2777] I don't think that game is for me, though.
[2778] It seems like it's kind of a sin and punishment.
[2779] Or like a space harrier kind of behind the back shooting.
[2780] Yeah, and then there's like combat on the ground.
[2781] It's not a Messiah remake.
[2782] Right.
[2783] No, unfortunately.
[2784] Which none of that sounds like what I would necessarily want out of a Kid Icarus game.
[2785] But I guess I can't really tell you what I would want out of a new Kid Icarus game.
[2786] You are the eggplant.
[2787] Yeah.
[2788] Give me a puzzle game where I play as the eggplant wizard.
[2789] Then there you go.
[2790] A question for Vinny.
[2791] Where do you video producing skills come from?
[2792] Do you learn as you go or as the control room grows?
[2793] Do you have a degree in something?
[2794] Me video game producing skills?
[2795] Yeah.
[2796] You video game producing skills.
[2797] Where did you learn how to – where did you produce video learn how for?
[2798] The number four, right?
[2799] Yeah.
[2800] Yeah.
[2801] I did take some stuff in college but mostly just on the job.
[2802] I don't know.
[2803] Where does anybody learn anything really?
[2804] You learn in school stuff, then learn job.
[2805] I'll give you the answer for Vinny.
[2806] The big one that I loved was right before we did the big live live show where we got, I think, maybe 24 hours, 48 hours, we got the actual equipment to do the live show stuff.
[2807] I don't think it was 48.
[2808] I think it was like hours the day before.
[2809] And so it was literally the day before.
[2810] staying up late trying to learn the stuff and putting everybody on a green we just it was like you me and drew oh right and you just hey why don't you stand in front of a green screen let's put a really bad set fine yeah well that's the technical side that's the hard that's the hard part that's the easy part yeah that's the part that is as scary for us as oh my god the website is down what what's wrong with it No, that's the hard part is what you need to just kind of make a lot of mistakes and be like, you know what?
[2811] This isn't going to work.
[2812] We tried it.
[2813] It's not going to work.
[2814] We won't do that again.
[2815] But we'll do it differently next time.
[2816] And you can only just learn with doing stuff and making a lot of bad videos and being like, that was bad.
[2817] Was it worth it to make it bad?
[2818] Or just time and people.
[2819] A lot of it is just working with as many people as you can.
[2820] Are you talking about my magic shows?
[2821] Is that what you're talking about?
[2822] Your magic shows?
[2823] My magic shows?
[2824] Yeah.
[2825] Just ice turning into – that would have worked.
[2826] God damn it.
[2827] See, you just make – you got to make everything a learning experience.
[2828] What do you do differently?
[2829] How do we make the magic work next time?
[2830] That one we should have rehearsed.
[2831] That's nine times out of ten.
[2832] The answer is, man, if we had tried this beforehand, we would have seen all the – You know, it's funny because I just had – Melissa has been helping out with production stuff.
[2833] And it was funny because we were just getting ready for a Friday show.
[2834] You were in here.
[2835] I was on assignment.
[2836] So you were on assignment.
[2837] And it's crazy because this is going to be of interest to nobody.
[2838] But hand me that little quarter -inch jack right there.
[2839] Oh, yeah.
[2840] So on Thursday, TNT.
[2841] Yeah.
[2842] In my hand, I'm holding a stereo made in a quarter -inch jack, which has a tip on it, right?
[2843] Mm -hmm.
[2844] Tip broke off in the sound mixer.
[2845] Yeah.
[2846] In the port.
[2847] Broke the tip off, right?
[2848] Ram it in there so hard you break the tip off.
[2849] Something happened, and so it's stuck in the mixer.
[2850] Well, I had to take the mixer apart.
[2851] Yeah, so you can't put another one in there.
[2852] You can't put anything else in there.
[2853] The bit is still in there.
[2854] I'm like, fuck, that's crazy.
[2855] Over 10 years of doing this, it never happened to me before.
[2856] Friday, right before the show.
[2857] Tip breaks off in the TriCaster.
[2858] Oh, so different port?
[2859] Different machine.
[2860] Tip breaks off.
[2861] Another – a totally different – same manufacturer, different adapter.
[2862] Breaks off in there.
[2863] So about 10 minutes before the show starts, I've got the TriCaster in my lap.
[2864] Tops off.
[2865] I'm with a pair of tweezers and a flashlight in my mouth.
[2866] Melissa, who is now – first we're kind of helping out, making sure production starts on time.
[2867] Are we good to go?
[2868] Just like looking up like in a sweat.
[2869] Like, yeah.
[2870] So, yeah.
[2871] You just kind of learn as you go.
[2872] You learn as you do.
[2873] And, you know, you have to have a real good curiosity for this stuff because it really changes constantly.
[2874] See, I only have like a passing.
[2875] I have interest in the video stuff, but I don't have the capacity, I think, to be a good editor or anything like that.
[2876] So I'm interested in the tech.
[2877] Yeah.
[2878] Well, you kind of have it all.
[2879] The tech is the easy part because, you know, you just try that shit out.
[2880] You hook it up and it goes.
[2881] If it doesn't work, you kick it until it goes.
[2882] Yeah.
[2883] And, you know, you can sit there and play with it.
[2884] I think that's what I told Dave when we had that big live live show.
[2885] It's like as long as we get this in 24 hours before, we will be fine.
[2886] Like I don't care if we stay up for 24 hours.
[2887] We'll learn how this works.
[2888] Because it's either you're going to learn how it works or not.
[2889] The hard part is the kind of like do you know what that tech can do?
[2890] And can you translate that into a video?
[2891] Do you know what the limitations of you?
[2892] The art of it.
[2893] Yeah, or like quote -unquote art of it.
[2894] Do you know what you can do and then can you make that into your vision with the tools you have?
[2895] So yeah, that's a fun one.
[2896] Yeah, fucking two quarters.
[2897] Incredible, incredible.
[2898] Did you get by on those monoprice tips?
[2899] I guess so, man. They're important pieces of equipment, but man, that really sucked.
[2900] Next question.
[2901] How do you fly an airplane in Battlefield?
[2902] I never got used to the vehicles in Battlefield.
[2903] Especially if you were playing with a PC.
[2904] You're playing with a mouse.
[2905] Yeah, none of that stuff is intuitive at all.
[2906] Flying things with a mouse just always sucked.
[2907] Hook up your flight stick.
[2908] The problem with vehicle games too is that if you're an inverted control guy, and then for some reason a lot of vehicle games will invert the invert.
[2909] Right.
[2910] By default.
[2911] Like if you're an inverted control, it's like – And then when you get in a vehicle, it inverts that.
[2912] Yeah.
[2913] So it goes the opposite way and it's like, no. No. And you can't – a lot of times you can't change that.
[2914] Bumps me out.
[2915] I've definitely seen games that let you change it.
[2916] But yeah.
[2917] It happens a lot of times where inverted controls will work and then you'll get in a turret and the turret will not be inverted.
[2918] Yeah.
[2919] Sorry, I'm just bumming out.
[2920] This is my PC gamer bumming out.
[2921] On the subject of Super Mario Sunshine, I happen to have a good memory of the day it came out as it was the day my parents separated.
[2922] So you can add that to the game's list of negatives.
[2923] Not so much a question.
[2924] Not so much a question.
[2925] Bumming this whole podcast.
[2926] Dave, do you know what's causing the 404 error for new articles on Giant Bomb?
[2927] Says Yashar in North Vancouver.
[2928] Yes, I do.
[2929] I think everybody here knows.
[2930] What is it?
[2931] That's our publishing bug.
[2932] So we have one of those phantom bugs that we can't figure out.
[2933] It seemed like we were real close.
[2934] Like I spent, not last week because I was gone, but the week before, like every article I was publishing I did in front of Koontz.
[2935] It is the worst bug that I've seen that we've had because it's such a simple tool.
[2936] So for us to not, basically what's happening.
[2937] is we've got a back end.
[2938] We call it this distillery platform, which is where we do all of our news, our videos and stuff.
[2939] And there's save mechanisms in there that basically we can look at stuff internally on the website before it's actually live so that we can pass it around so Jeff and all those guys can actually see what the story is going to look like in the site.
[2940] And so what's been happening is They've been saving to put it live, but for some reason it's staying in that weird state, but it's still promoting it on the front pages.
[2941] Yeah, as if it were live.
[2942] As if it were live, but it's actually still unpublished.
[2943] So people – it's hard for us to see because we're clicking things and they're working fine because we're staff and can see everything.
[2944] But people are seeing it as a 404.
[2945] So they're clicking through to it and it's getting a 404 and it's been really hard.
[2946] We can't figure out if it's – We can't figure out if it's a database problem where it's getting weird signals where it's saving it and then unpublishing it and then publishing it again.
[2947] Andy's theory about the cash lifetime stuff, 30 -minute thing, seemed plausible when he – he sounded like he knew what he was talking about.
[2948] It's just weird because we solve much, much, much, much, much more hard problems than this.
[2949] Like this is generic like regular.
[2950] Website stuff.
[2951] So we can't figure out, which makes us think it's a weird front -end issue, but we can't.
[2952] We don't know what it is.
[2953] We're trying to figure it out.
[2954] We've been trying to figure it out for the last two weeks.
[2955] It's driving us all nuts.
[2956] I like how this is turning into behind the curtain.
[2957] Tell me more about the problems you guys have about making sites.
[2958] Sometimes I'm amazed.
[2959] You know how I'm amazed that games ever get made?
[2960] Right.
[2961] Like, man, games get made.
[2962] I was amazed our stuff goes out and as kind of on time and as well as it does with like, you know, like a handful of engineers, like a couple of dudes like fucking breaking tips off and mixers back there.
[2963] Everybody kind of just trying to figure out what the hell is going on in front of the camera.
[2964] Yeah, it's one of those things that like as you get bigger, some things become easier and other things become harder.
[2965] You know, where it's like, OK, we have more people to spread the work around to.
[2966] So more stuff's going to get done.
[2967] But then all of a sudden it's like there are more moving parts in the process.
[2968] So the chances of other weird things going wrong happen and all this stuff.
[2969] But even just on the production side, it's like we've added so many different.
[2970] pieces you know we're not a huge company that has redundancies in that chain so we've added so many different things in this chain of video production and just technology one of those things goes down one wire goes down and it's like the entire we could don't start happy hour on time right it's an adapter breaks yeah and it's like on a piece of equipment that is somewhere in the chain uh yeah It gets crazy.
[2971] And, like, you know, we've added so much stuff to the sites where it's, like, tracking down those little bugs.
[2972] That's, like, where is it?
[2973] It's somewhere in Quest or, you know, it's somewhere in, you know.
[2974] Fun thing we're going to do pretty soon here.
[2975] I don't know.
[2976] We should almost do it like a focus test if you want to sit in.
[2977] But we're going to be able to show a new person how the back -end tools work for the first time.
[2978] It should be all right.
[2979] Yeah, I think so.
[2980] I think they're pretty straightforward.
[2981] Yeah, they work fine.
[2982] I'm just saying it will be interesting when this new person comes in.
[2983] All the other sites, they always have guys that come in that are writing.
[2984] A lot of people – remember, a lot of people are writing outside of this building.
[2985] Yeah, I guess that's true.
[2986] So we haven't had too much trouble with that kind of stuff.
[2987] And we get so few things coming from you guys that most of the time I assume it's – It's fairly self -explanatory.
[2988] I like it.
[2989] We didn't tell any of our external riders that distillery was rolling out, and no one came to us and said, hey, how do I use this?
[2990] Oh, that's good.
[2991] That's always good.
[2992] That's why I turn it off.
[2993] That's why I always turn them off.
[2994] You turn off the old tools?
[2995] No, yeah.
[2996] I know that if I don't turn it off, you guys will do it.
[2997] I wouldn't use the new tools if the old tools were still there.
[2998] If you have to put that, want to use distillery 1 .0, click here.
[2999] Then you've got a mistake.
[3000] Screw you guys.
[3001] Skip this intro.
[3002] With SOCOM 4 releasing on the same day as Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat, does anybody in the office even care about it on a personal level?
[3003] Do you guys ever play SOCOM?
[3004] I really don't care about it on a personal level at all.
[3005] On a kind of professional level, I do.
[3006] Not interested at all.
[3007] I was super into SOCOM and SOCOM 2 because there was nothing else like it on the PS2.
[3008] I don't know.
[3009] I haven't played.
[3010] We've had a copy for a while.
[3011] I haven't had time to play it because I've been on assignment.
[3012] You were excited about the previous games.
[3013] You were disappointed by them, I'd say.
[3014] Definitely.
[3015] You were excited about them when they came out.
[3016] Everything from SOCOM 2 forward has been very disappointing as far as I'm concerned.
[3017] So SOCOM 4 is the original guy.
[3018] He's going back to it.
[3019] So I think the game has a lot of potential.
[3020] I think the beta seemed like fun.
[3021] But there are a billion shooters out there now.
[3022] So it's not quite the situation where...
[3023] where SOCOM kind of stands alone on its platform.
[3024] There are world -class shooters on the PlayStation 3.
[3025] So we'll see.
[3026] I should probably start playing that pretty soon here.
[3027] Reviews of that will be hitting today.
[3028] Not ours, but a lot of reviews should be going up with that.
[3029] Suck them.
[3030] Interested to see how that goes.
[3031] These questions just keep coming in, and they are all about the Persona 4 anime.
[3032] I like that we've become your Persona gateway.
[3033] Yeah.
[3034] Your number one source from the world of Persona 4 entertainment.
[3035] Why not do a TNT on home front multiplayer?
[3036] Yeah.
[3037] If we start ironically doing bad games, I'll give you a call.
[3038] My friends all suck.
[3039] How do I go about getting better ones?
[3040] That's a really sad one.
[3041] How do you get better friends, guys?
[3042] I don't need more context.
[3043] That's all I said.
[3044] Maybe his friends think he sucks.
[3045] Maybe.
[3046] I think you have to do weird social group things.
[3047] You've got to go find...
[3048] No, you can't force it.
[3049] No, I'm not saying.
[3050] But how else are you going to meet people?
[3051] You've got to move to a new state, get a new job.
[3052] Meeting people is hard.
[3053] Especially as you become an adult and stuff like that.
[3054] It's impossible.
[3055] If you don't like hanging out in bars, and even that's terrible.
[3056] Terrible.
[3057] What are you going to do?
[3058] Hang out in laundromats.
[3059] There you go.
[3060] Problem solved.
[3061] Not going to work.
[3062] You got to join like a book club.
[3063] If you're younger, I think it might be even harder too if you're locked into your school or something like that.
[3064] I know all these kids here.
[3065] They all suck.
[3066] Now I need to be surrounded by them.
[3067] That's kind of the beautiful thing about the internet, but it's not necessarily people meeting people.
[3068] It's anonymous individual number one meeting anonymous individual number two.
[3069] That's okay.
[3070] It can be a long -lasting anonymous relationship.
[3071] I've got plenty of long -lasting anonymous relationships.
[3072] Are they still anonymous?
[3073] I get instant messages from people whose real names I don't know.
[3074] Like fairly regularly.
[3075] It's just people you talk with daily.
[3076] You haven't necessarily met, but you played Quake with them a long time ago.
[3077] These are all IRC dudes for me. I guess you end up in a workforce.
[3078] You switch jobs.
[3079] Jobs are probably my easiest way of making friends these days.
[3080] Hang out with your girlfriend's friends.
[3081] See what they do.
[3082] Be that guy.
[3083] God made weed, man made beer.
[3084] Who do you trust?
[3085] Yeah, thanks.
[3086] A lot of good questions.
[3087] Maybe you're sure where that's going.
[3088] Like, all right.
[3089] I don't know.
[3090] They should both be legal.
[3091] What do you want me?
[3092] I don't know.
[3093] I don't know.
[3094] Whatever.
[3095] People are out of their minds.
[3096] They can't all be.
[3097] Are they really all about anime?
[3098] There's a fair amount of them that are about the Persona 4 anime, yeah.
[3099] What's the best PC real -time strategy game?
[3100] Let's say StarCraft II, probably.
[3101] What do you think?
[3102] I like the Relic stuff.
[3103] That's good stuff, too.
[3104] That's pretty good.
[3105] The Dawn of War stuff.
[3106] How about Dune 2000?
[3107] Okay.
[3108] Just Dune 2.
[3109] That'll pass.
[3110] Yeah, just Dune 2.
[3111] Lay down those planks on the sand.
[3112] Like Age of Empires I really liked.
[3113] Yeah, a lot of people.
[3114] I like the Total War games a lot and I like the Relic games.
[3115] I think the StarCraft games are fairly old school and I can't get into them.
[3116] I don't like the multiplayer all that much.
[3117] And I don't want to manage all that stuff.
[3118] I just don't have time for it.
[3119] Manage all that stuff you don't have time for, but you're going to play Shogun?
[3120] Yeah, but at least it's all mixed up.
[3121] It's not like just learning one thing over and over and over.
[3122] It's not like some repetition thing.
[3123] It's like I've got all the economic simulation, all that fun stuff.
[3124] I've got all the big map, the little map, the naval battles.
[3125] So you're not just like refining one skill into dust.
[3126] Yeah, and I'm not playing it like you can't really – I just don't see you playing through the StarCraft campaign.
[3127] I'm sure you do if you want to play it multiple times for the – The difficulty stuff.
[3128] But the great thing about the Total War games is you just play a new and it's completely different.
[3129] Yeah.
[3130] So that's why I can do it.
[3131] A guy is sitting next to me and he's starting to rub my belly.
[3132] Guys, he's shifting closer to me. What do I do?
[3133] Tell him you are not Buddha.
[3134] All right.
[3135] Short, succinct.
[3136] Hopefully you get that in time.
[3137] Yeah.
[3138] Tomorrow.
[3139] Yeah.
[3140] Are you guys excited for Duke Nukem?
[3141] I saw that trailer with the girls.
[3142] I didn't watch that.
[3143] How'd it look?
[3144] I don't want to be offensive because I think those guys make good games, but that game's kind of making me sick.
[3145] I'm tired of it already.
[3146] They're pushing too hard on the...
[3147] machismo factor in, I feel like, not very clever ways.
[3148] And also, they blur out the goddamn tits.
[3149] You're going to be like, yeah, we're Duke Nukem, blah, blah, blah.
[3150] Then make that game rated A -O or whatever and show me boobs and don't mosaic them out.
[3151] If you're that hardcore.
[3152] I wonder if that's just the trailer, though.
[3153] It probably is, but I bet they'll be mosaiced out.
[3154] I don't know.
[3155] We'll see.
[3156] There were boobs in Duke Nukem 3D.
[3157] That was a different time.
[3158] They were mosaicked out just by the way games looked back then.
[3159] You just get too close.
[3160] The entire game was mosaicked out a little bit.
[3161] Yeah, I don't know.
[3162] I'm kind of excited in just the whole thing, culture thing of it.
[3163] But that does not appeal to me at all.
[3164] Can I say I do not want any story in that game?
[3165] If there is a story in that game, I won't be able to get through it.
[3166] I think it's that the aliens are taking girls and you need to get them back.
[3167] Yeah, but I just don't.
[3168] As long as it's.
[3169] I just want a romp.
[3170] That's all I want.
[3171] I just want to romp.
[3172] I just want to go through like kind of old and like if it's fun and that kind of – I just don't want to like have to sit through weird.
[3173] Like my memories of Duke Nukem, they just don't – it doesn't seem like – I don't remember him being just such a huge asshole.
[3174] Like just this kind of like dude you'd hate.
[3175] And that's what I'm feeling.
[3176] Like I can't get behind him like, yeah, like this guy is awesome.
[3177] And I remember him being a tough guy and like a – A macho dude who will like kick dudes over and like kick pigs in the face.
[3178] But not mean to women.
[3179] Duke respects a woman.
[3180] And like here I just feel like this guy isn't – maybe I'm just too old or something.
[3181] Like this guy just seems like a douchebag.
[3182] I think we're just old.
[3183] Yeah, maybe.
[3184] He seems like a guy that would affect some kind of fake French accent in some cases.
[3185] It seems like a guy who's not going to get the joke when people are making fun of him.
[3186] Yeah.
[3187] And that kind of bums me out.
[3188] Like, I feel like he's going to turn around and everybody's going to be laughing at him and he's going to, like, finally be ashamed and, like, kind of go home and be like, shoot himself in the head.
[3189] Like, what happened to me?
[3190] That's the story component.
[3191] Like, that's where I feel like that game's going.
[3192] Like, he's like, yeah, I'm back, baby, bitches.
[3193] And everybody's like, ah!
[3194] Look at you!
[3195] They still make guys like you, huh?
[3196] But now I'm back.
[3197] What do you mean?
[3198] Fuck off, douchebag!
[3199] See, for me, all my memorable Duke Nukem moments were all multiplayer.
[3200] Same.
[3201] So it didn't have much to do with the character or anything that came out of his mouth.
[3202] It was all pipe bombs and, you know, the tripwire stuff.
[3203] Yeah.
[3204] Like, that was all the stuff that mattered about Duke Nukem.
[3205] And, yeah, I don't know.
[3206] I don't know that I ever actually completely played through the single player of Duke 3D.
[3207] I know I played through, like, the first episode.
[3208] I was thinking about that recently.
[3209] Like how crazy – like think about how shareware games used to be.
[3210] It would be like there are four episodes in this game.
[3211] You get the whole first one for free.
[3212] And now we live in a world with like 20 -minute demos, rule everything.
[3213] I don't know.
[3214] It was weird.
[3215] And think about how weird it was that like the demo was often the best content.
[3216] Yeah.
[3217] Like Doom 1.
[3218] Episode 1 is the best episode.
[3219] Quake was like that too.
[3220] Yeah.
[3221] Episode 1 of Quake, awesome.
[3222] Yeah.
[3223] It was just a different time.
[3224] Get that PC Gamer Disc.
[3225] Get some good games on that thing.
[3226] Yeah, totally.
[3227] 100 free demos.
[3228] Yeah.
[3229] Doesn't sound like there are many questions.
[3230] Yeah, no, I think we're good.
[3231] I think we're good on questions here.
[3232] There are about another 80 or so here.
[3233] Let's pick the last one.
[3234] All right.
[3235] Oh, whoops.
[3236] I deleted them all.
[3237] All right.
[3238] That's it.
[3239] Go ahead.
[3240] Problem solved and that's going to do it.
[3241] Thanks for spending your time sending in, you know, questions.
[3242] Oh, wait.
[3243] I hit refresh and now there are 20 more.
[3244] Great.
[3245] Take number 20.
[3246] All right.
[3247] Let's scroll down here.
[3248] Sloppy Joe's.
[3249] Is this sandwich good eats or just too damn sloppy?
[3250] I love Sloppy Joe's.
[3251] With like.
[3252] chips on the side so then like when the sloppiness falls yeah you just grab it with chips it's great yeah sloppy joe so is manwich a type of sloppy joe you make a sloppy joe with manwich okay i think so that's it's just the spice component that you're buying i guess yeah i don't know sometimes sloppy joes are weird because they're like sometimes they'll be like the same reason i don't like meatloaf a lot of the time they'll be like onion chunks and other weird stuff in them that i'm not totally on board with but that's a constant There needs to be onion.
[3253] I don't like – You just like them all mushed up.
[3254] I don't like onions.
[3255] So – Then you don't like meatloaf.
[3256] Yeah.
[3257] OK.
[3258] Because it's not – you're like sometimes.
[3259] It's always got – it always has onions in it.
[3260] Yeah.
[3261] So you just don't like meatloaf.
[3262] Sometimes a meatloaf gets into a position where it doesn't necessarily taste like onions.
[3263] There's always onions in Sloppy Joe's.
[3264] Yeah, I know.
[3265] I don't really like Sloppy Joe's that much either.
[3266] It's crazy.
[3267] The only thing I don't like about Sloppy Joes is when people put like condiments on Sloppy Joe.
[3268] Like ketchup on a Sloppy Joe?
[3269] No. Because it's all already ketchup.
[3270] What's the – Mustard.
[3271] Green stuff that you – Relish.
[3272] Not relish.
[3273] No, like salad, some sort of salad.
[3274] Not salad.
[3275] What's the – Damn it.
[3276] Lettuce.
[3277] Why am I blanking?
[3278] Yeah, it's made of lettuce.
[3279] It's mostly lettuce and mayo.
[3280] What is – Slaw.
[3281] Slaw.
[3282] Like a lot of people put slaw on top of the sloppy joe.
[3283] That's cabbage.
[3284] Well, is cabbage not lettuce?
[3285] I don't know.
[3286] I think, well, in the other case.
[3287] Mayonnaise and a vegetable.
[3288] Yeah, I don't like putting things on top of sloppy joe.
[3289] I just think you have the bun and sloppy joe by itself.
[3290] You also need a pretty hearty bun.
[3291] I've had sloppy joes on too thin a bread.
[3292] Sure.
[3293] And that's a disaster.
[3294] Yeah, that's just a mess.
[3295] Yeah.
[3296] And you need a chunky kind of sloppy joe.
[3297] It needs some consistency to it.
[3298] A little bit gin.
[3299] I hate when sloppy joe just tastes like ketchup.
[3300] It's like tomato base.
[3301] Yeah.
[3302] It's gross.
[3303] Yeah, no. It's got to have a little spice to it.
[3304] Mac and cheese in sloppy joe.
[3305] That would make a good combo, but I don't think you necessarily need the bun then.
[3306] Just mix it together.
[3307] Yeah, just throw it in a bowl and eat it with chips.
[3308] And no onions.
[3309] And no onions.
[3310] Yeah, think about it.
[3311] All right.
[3312] Onions just get in the way.
[3313] I like onions.
[3314] I think you eat onions and pretty much everything.
[3315] You just don't notice them most of the time.
[3316] It's a textural thing.
[3317] It's a constant in cooking.
[3318] It's just there.
[3319] It's always there.
[3320] I don't cook a lot also.
[3321] Yeah, but you're buying stuff that's been cooked.
[3322] I buy no onions.
[3323] Yeah.
[3324] This has been your no onion podcast.
[3325] Yeah, this has been the onion free.
[3326] Welcome to the onion free zone.
[3327] You're in the no onion zone.
[3328] Yeah.
[3329] A Persona 4 anime adaptation just got announced.
[3330] Thoughts?
[3331] Like, that's the worst.
[3332] When we talk about things that are shitty online, it's when people say a statement and then go, thoughts?
[3333] Like, they can't be bothered to write, what do you think about that?
[3334] Mac and cheese and sloppy joe.
[3335] Thoughts?
[3336] Fuck off.
[3337] That's...
[3338] No onions.
[3339] No onions.
[3340] You're in the no onion zone, motherfucker.
[3341] That's right.
[3342] Step into the no onion zone.
[3343] I'll tell you what I think about that.
[3344] It's like an Old Spice commercial, the No Onion Zone.
[3345] Get out of here.
[3346] You're kind of wearing an Old Spicey kind of shirt.
[3347] I don't even know what that means.
[3348] I don't know what an Old Spicey commercial means.
[3349] I would say it's more like a Gangs New York sort of, you know, dapper.
[3350] You're always dapper.
[3351] Yeah.
[3352] Well, I do what I can.
[3353] All right.
[3354] That's going to do it.
[3355] Thanks for listening to the Giant Bombcast.
[3356] We'll be back next Tuesday.
[3357] Big week next week.
[3358] We are going to be...
[3359] None of us are going to be here because we're going to be enjoying...
[3360] Crisis.
[3361] We're going to be playing Crisis 1.
[3362] I'm going to be playing Shadow Warrior.
[3363] Shouting you no mess with Lo Wang over and over again.
[3364] Actually, so Tuesday we are going to be...
[3365] Oh, that's right.
[3366] We're going to be going live on Tuesday with all three of the big releases for that week.
[3367] Join us.
[3368] All at the same time, so choose your stream.
[3369] Mortal Kombat and Portal 2.
[3370] We should do that.
[3371] Three separate streams.
[3372] We need to build a Night Trap interface for live streaming.
[3373] Yes.
[3374] And then you have to be watching the Portal 2 live stream at the right moment that someone says when the code key is going to change.
[3375] And then we'll just put like a loop on.
[3376] Like you just start looping and you have to figure out what you have to do to get to the next stream channel.
[3377] Yeah.
[3378] All right.
[3379] I like it.
[3380] All right.
[3381] There you go.
[3382] That's what we're doing.
[3383] Tune in.
[3384] All this Amazon stuff.
[3385] Start testing.
[3386] Yeah, so tune in next week for that.
[3387] There will be information on the site as to when that's going to happen.
[3388] We'll probably be relatively early in the day, West Coast time, and we'll, of course, archive it for those of you that can't join us live.
[3389] And that's going to do it.
[3390] So we'll be back next week with podcasts.
[3391] Be sure to check out the site.
[3392] There's stuff on it.
[3393] Right?
[3394] I hope so.
[3395] At least I'm hoping it's not for a foreign that day.
[3396] Yeah.
[3397] There's stuff.
