The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz XX
[0] Welcome to Good Follow presented by Drowkings.
[1] I'm Megan Reyes.
[2] And alongside me, as usual, are Katie Novotny and Logan Hackett.
[3] Ladies, how are we today?
[4] I'm good.
[5] How are you?
[6] I'm doing great.
[7] There's a lot to be excited about.
[8] Katie?
[9] I'm pumped.
[10] I'm pumped.
[11] Well, let's get into it.
[12] We do have a packed show.
[13] And first up, are the Olympics are finally underway.
[14] I can't believe it's already been four years, but we're here.
[15] We're back.
[16] We're looking for some gold medals.
[17] what are you all looking forward to the most over the next few weeks?
[18] Honestly, just like all the different sports that you don't get to see on a regular basis.
[19] I was reading something about like canoe slalom.
[20] I don't know.
[21] It looks absolutely insane.
[22] And then break dancing.
[23] The break dancing!
[24] Yeah.
[25] It's like I've never seen anything like that.
[26] And I've seen like Red Bull competitions and I feel like it's kind of going to be like that.
[27] And I'm really excited.
[28] Breakdancing is going to be cool first year that it's at the Olympics.
[29] I love watching track at the Olympics.
[30] That's my favorite.
[31] Plus gymnastics.
[32] I don't know.
[33] Winter sports are really cool because it's something that I could never, ever, ever do.
[34] And I could also never, ever be a Summer Olympian because I'm not an athlete, a pro athlete, but the sports are just a little bit more relatable as far as like, yeah, I did gymnastics when I was younger.
[35] I definitely didn't do, you know, all these crazy half -pipe things in the Winter Olympics.
[36] But that's why I like summer.
[37] I mean, we can all do a killer cartwheel, you know?
[38] That's the thing.
[39] We're all Olympians at heart.
[40] I'm excited about beach volleyball.
[41] That's like my favorite thing to watch because it's just it's usually, it's two people and they're covering so much ground.
[42] And I'm like there's two, two USA teams that are really, really good and they're like their sandwich between Brazil.
[43] So it's like Brazil's like number one pick and number four and then USA is in the two and threes.
[44] And I'm just like, oh, I'm so excited.
[45] I just can't wait.
[46] I can't wait.
[47] I can't Wait.
[48] Well, as a lot of people know, I am an obnoxiously proud first generation Filipino -American, and I'm very excited there are 22 Olympians competing for Team Philippines at Paris 2024.
[49] And I know that at the opening ceremony, they're wearing a very traditional barong, which is a very traditional Filipino -like shirt, dress shirt.
[50] They're going to look sleek and classy, everything that I would expect out of the Philippines.
[51] And we know that every Olympics, people can't wait to see what countries are wearing for the opening ceremonies.
[52] This year did not disappoint.
[53] So we're going to dive into some of the opening ceremony outfits.
[54] And I want to know what everyone thinks.
[55] Let's start with the USA.
[56] Katie, what are the vibes you're getting?
[57] I'm getting like a villain from a rom -com vibe or like a prep school.
[58] Like they're all going to bully me for not having a Mercedes -Benz.
[59] That's how it feels, which like it does make sense.
[60] American culture is business.
[61] It is prep.
[62] It is, we are the rich bullies.
[63] So I think it's actually on point.
[64] It's giving a little gossip girl.
[65] Yes, that's exactly what I was going to say.
[66] Like, or the stereotypical private school kids that like you see in British movies or something like that.
[67] But no offense, y 'all, y 'all got to switch things up.
[68] I feel like it's the same thing every single year by a different font.
[69] Because it's Ralph Lauren every fucking time.
[70] It's every time.
[71] There's other people.
[72] That exists.
[73] Oh, drives me bonkers.
[74] Okay, what about Australia?
[75] I can't get over the khakis.
[76] I feel like this is like, I read that it's supposed to represent the beaches and the sand and the ocean.
[77] And I'm like, this is like the first pass at what a beach and an ocean would represent.
[78] It's like sand khakis, ocean turquoise.
[79] And then they stopped.
[80] And I'm so, I'm so sad about it.
[81] Okay, Logan, as our Australian, what do you think?
[82] As an Australian, I feel like I represent many Australians when I say this.
[83] We are so unimpressed every single year.
[84] It's so ugly.
[85] I mean, green and gold are kind of hard to like work with to begin with.
[86] But I feel like we could be doing a little bit more, kind of make it flattering.
[87] I feel like none of this is flattering on anyone.
[88] It's kind of like, you know, you have a meetie at five, but you got to, you know, go sailing at six.
[89] It's like party on top Or party on bottom, business on top I like the guy in the middle who's just standing there So awkward Like I think that like Root just shows you how uncomfortable he is He just is not into it The dresses are so ugly too The dresses are hilarious We're gonna have to get a video of the dresses But the videos of the Australian athletes And the dresses Or at least like we can probably only really see the skirt Because I think they have something over the top But it's something It's something.
[90] Anyways, moving on, let's go to Poland.
[91] I see, this is like, I'm very neutral colors overwhelm me. So at first glance, this like eases my anxiety a little bit.
[92] And then I dive a little bit deeper on the right.
[93] I'm just not a sweater, like, pull over sweater, girl.
[94] It's giving winter, and I feel like it's going to be a little hot outside.
[95] I hope they don't overheat or anything.
[96] But no, I agree.
[97] It's very, like, minimalist, and the colors go really well, like, flow well together.
[98] But it's just like, eh.
[99] Okay, let me say this.
[100] As a resident poll, I was blow.
[101] I, like, from, like, my dad always talks about when he was grown up, they, like, had, like, blood soup and pigs' feet.
[102] So, like, coming from a culture that had nothing, we really come a long way.
[103] Like, they look way, they look way better than I thought they would.
[104] Like, I, like, I. I. think they did a good.
[105] I do think it gives winter and like winter formal a little bit.
[106] I like the neutrals.
[107] I'm not the biggest fan of floral prints in general, but I think it's actually at least flattering and like they look stylish, you know?
[108] You got to look at it a couple ways and we're not going to get way too into the weeds with this.
[109] I think if this was something in a store or if this was everyday fashion, I can rock with it.
[110] And then also on the stage like the Olympics is probably not the most memorable.
[111] Yes, yes.
[112] When you have green and gold skirts like Australia.
[113] Yeah, if you want to be memorable, where's the khakis, right?
[114] All right, let's go on to Taiwan.
[115] No notes.
[116] I love it.
[117] I think it's fucking awesome.
[118] Oops.
[119] Yeah.
[120] I think it's awesome.
[121] 10 out of 10, no notes.
[122] I have, if there's one thing I love about Asian culture is the fashion.
[123] It's very, like they can do the bagging, the oversized, but they can do tailored and clean cut so well.
[124] I love.
[125] I literally just wrote sick.
[126] No notes.
[127] No notes.
[128] It's just so, it's, it's, you want to keep looking at it.
[129] And that's like what the, the ceremonies are for, right?
[130] You're showing, you're showing off ever all the, all the skill sets in one, in one little outfit.
[131] And I think I'm looking at a vote cover.
[132] Yes.
[133] Right.
[134] When they all walk in together, I feel like it's going to be so like sleek, like a runway type thing.
[135] Like, they could really strut through that opening ceremony.
[136] All right, Taiwan, 10 out of 10, gold for you.
[137] Moving on to Ireland.
[138] Are they doing karate?
[139] I think it gives a little street jacket to me. I think there's a, I mean, I think it's cool that it's all recycled, which you can, you can, wait, so it's 100 % recycled material?
[140] According to an article that I read, which, you know, I don't know how easy it is to work with recycled materials.
[141] I'm thinking not that easy.
[142] but a lot of ventilation going on you see the little zippers I think that's that's cool Logan do you have thoughts it's giving martial arts all the way and I feel like Ireland doesn't have much to do with martial art so I'm a bit confused I love the concept of recycled materials go green go earth yeah go green go earth I like that that's a good tag line, that's the, that's the, that's the, that's the, that's the, that's the two hundred and six or whatever country.
[143] That's, it's just a little uninspired.
[144] Yeah.
[145] It's okay.
[146] It's okay.
[147] Okay, let's go to Haiti.
[148] Oh, see, okay, first of all, this looks like a high fashion spread.
[149] A hundred percent.
[150] I think it looks so, it's stunning to use a word from Love Island.
[151] It is stunning.
[152] Logan, thoughts on this from you.
[153] I want to know if the girls are going to work.
[154] the heels, like the heel boots.
[155] I feel like we might see some odd walks.
[156] Firstly, I have a doppy down.
[157] I need sneakers.
[158] But like the whole, I don't even know what to, geometry, the whole geometry of it and the way that like comes out at the top and then snatches at the waist and then cut, oh my God, it's so good.
[159] I am obsessed with this.
[160] But now that I look at it more, I'm so sorry.
[161] The men's pants kind of throw me off.
[162] Yeah, I was just more paying attention to the women's outfit.
[163] Yeah.
[164] I didn't really pay attention to the pants either.
[165] and I'm probably going to keep not paying attention to them.
[166] However, I do like the boots a lot.
[167] I agree with the waist.
[168] I love a balance, like, fitted and then flowy or oversized on the bottom.
[169] She's rocking the hell out of this outfit, so.
[170] She really is.
[171] And I think there's like, there was some pushback from China about their uniforms being, like, too feminine, like, and not as, like, gender fluid or gender norm.
[172] Like, it's very gender norms.
[173] And this one, even though.
[174] though it's very feminine, I think it does it in a really elegant way.
[175] And it still has a little bit of an edge to it.
[176] So it doesn't feel like it falls in that category, you know?
[177] Well, now that you bring that up, that actually makes me look back on a lot of the other countries that we looked at.
[178] And even the U .S., that's probably what they were going for is gender neutral and gender inclusive.
[179] I think also there's ways you can do that that.
[180] A hundred percent.
[181] Prep school.
[182] A hundred percent.
[183] There's a range.
[184] Let's lean into the range, baby.
[185] Speaking of range, speaking of last but not least, Mongolia did their thing.
[186] They went hard.
[187] I don't know how you can touch this, you know?
[188] Like, I'm so sorry, Mongolia.
[189] We were not familiar with your game.
[190] Truly, truly, it's elegant.
[191] It feels like you're learning something, which I think is awesome.
[192] And I just love the elegance of it.
[193] It's just, it's pretty.
[194] It's very beautiful.
[195] I can't wait to see them together in a group wearing this.
[196] And I really like when cultures incorporate traditional aspects of their country in a more modern way, and that's what this feels like.
[197] 10 out of 10.
[198] Love.
[199] All right.
[200] Well, we could get into all the other countries.
[201] I wish we could.
[202] However, now we're going to play another game.
[203] And we're going to play Would You Rather, Olympics edition.
[204] We have all seen the athletes in the village have.
[205] tiny little beds made out of cardboard with roommates, no AC in Paris in the summer.
[206] And then on the other hand, the surfers that are competing in Tahiti have their Olympic village on a cruise ship where they get their own room.
[207] So first up on this game, Logan and Katie, would you rather sleep on a cardboard bed, but you're in Paris with most of all the other Olympic athletes and around all the festivities, or would you rather be in Tahiti on a cruise ship?
[208] If it's my first Olympics in the Olympic Village, 100%.
[209] I love like the atmosphere and just being able to meet everyone.
[210] With that said, if I had been to the Olympics before, Tahiti all the way, every single day, that is, it's like a destination tournament or whatever.
[211] Like after you're done, you could just go and hang out.
[212] Like you're on a cruise ship.
[213] What are they going to do?
[214] Fly you off of it?
[215] No, you can stay there for the whole time.
[216] Um, I, as someone who has a hard time sleeping and, uh, has massive anxiety and claustrophobia, neither option sounds good to me. Um, I feel like I'd be, feel trapped in the cruise ship.
[217] And I feel like I would be up all night on the cardboard boxes.
[218] Um, but if I had to choose, I'm with Logan, because at least I'll be able to escape.
[219] And there's at least like other people around me. And I also wouldn't get seasick.
[220] So I would, I could leave the Zofran at home.
[221] So that would be good.
[222] I think I would definitely pick.
[223] the villa in the village in Paris around all the other Olympians.
[224] I get extreme FOMO.
[225] And I see, okay, so yes, they're on a cardboard bed.
[226] You have a roommate.
[227] It's kind of giving a little bit like freshman year at college.
[228] I've also seen a lot of TikToks about the other aspects of the village that are really cool.
[229] Like they have really cool convenience stores and they have, it's not just a village where it's dorm style.
[230] It's quite literally their own sort of enclosed town.
[231] I think you might get over the whole bed thing for the sake of being in the middle of the action and feeling like you're actually part of the Olympics.
[232] It is for the greater good.
[233] Like, go green, go earth.
[234] It is what's supposed to be the best.
[235] It's all recycled material.
[236] You can recycle everything, apparently, with all these things.
[237] Which, Mother Earth is we need to keep her in mind.
[238] And I think that's legit.
[239] I would sacrifice my body.
[240] But that's the crazy thing.
[241] It's like they're sleeping on these things and then I'm going to go participate and be an athlete.
[242] That's so hard.
[243] It's probably more comfortable than we might realize.
[244] Maybe.
[245] I hope so.
[246] Okay, on to the next one.
[247] For background, the St. River is gross.
[248] And over the last few years, French officials have spent $1 .5 billion to get it cleaned up in time for the Olympics.
[249] Last week, the Paris mayor took a swim to prove it's safe.
[250] We'll get to that in a second.
[251] But people still have doubts.
[252] So would you rather risk swimming in the river and risk, you know, equal?
[253] coli or some, like, skin disease, or remove yourself from the competition and lose out on the chance at a metal?
[254] I will risk a skin rash because a rash is temporary.
[255] A gold medal is forever.
[256] I would swim in it.
[257] I think as someone who, like, absolutely hates being dirty, I would compete in it, but then kind of hope that I got something so then I could see the country.
[258] Cute.
[259] I like that.
[260] A businesswoman.
[261] Yeah, I like that a lot.
[262] If I did it, I'm the same way.
[263] I'm super germaphobe.
[264] Like, I wipe the bottom of my shoes off before they go into my luggage type of thing.
[265] So the thought of swimming in this river freaks me out.
[266] But for the sake of a gold medal, I would probably just have to be like complete, like full wet suit.
[267] The only skin showing is my face type of thing.
[268] And then I'm taking five showers afterwards.
[269] Fair.
[270] Okay, last one, and we're not going to overthink this one.
[271] So the very first answer that comes to mind, you have to go for it.
[272] Katie, you're up first.
[273] France is famous for its cheese, bread, other delicacies.
[274] Would you rather eat escargo as an appetizer before every meal or only be able to have bread once a year?
[275] So baguettes, croiss, anything.
[276] One, two, three.
[277] Oh, my God.
[278] One, two, three.
[279] Escargo.
[280] I love bread.
[281] I'm going.
[282] free so I'm going with the bread one because I don't eat bread anyways yeah that one's hard I don't eat that much bread so I don't think it'd be that hard to give up I never tried escargo when I was in France and I think it's a lot better than people may realize but I don't I don't know which one I'd pick I might go escargo I told you all not to overthink it and then I always thought it so I have more things I want to say when I'm going to stop.
[283] This Olympics game, we are excited to support women's sports.
[284] Of course, that's what Goodfell is all about.
[285] But we would also love your help.
[286] Draft Kings has partnered with the Women's Sports Foundation to help ensure that women have an equal opportunity to participate in sports.
[287] So for every entry into the free play WSF Olympics pool, our partners at Draft Kings will donate $5 to the Women's Sports Foundation to support organizations that keep women playing sports up to $50 ,000.
[288] Predict outcomes of select women's Olympic events for a chance to win a share of $5 ,000, all while helping a great cause.
[289] Visit draftkings .com slash WSF to get in on the Olympics action.
[290] And in support of the foundation, we each wanted to take a minute to talk about a female Olympian who has inspired us.
[291] So, Katie, why don't you start us off?
[292] Who is your choice?
[293] I'm going with Jenny Finch because I am a big softball player.
[294] I was a big softball player when I was younger and she went to the Olympics in 2004 which is like prime time when I was like in softball world and she also went to Greece and I went to Greece in 2004 so I was like oh my God we're like the same person and then she was also this was like back in the day I went to a Catholic school and she was like very Catholic so I was and then she was like really close with her dad or dad was the pitching ghost and I was like I want to be her she just and she just She was through so fast, and she was so, I loved seeing such a, like, full -rounded woman just dominate.
[295] I feel like it was one of the first times I saw someone that, like, felt like me and, like, be applauded on a bigger scale.
[296] And I thought, I just absolutely loved her.
[297] And her fastball was freaking sick.
[298] Like, I just, I remember being like, oh, my God, she's throwing 75 miles an hour.
[299] Like, what a gal.
[300] What a gal?
[301] Logan, what about you?
[302] What Olympic athlete inspired you the most?
[303] Mine is Logan Tom.
[304] She is an American volleyball player and I was actually named after her.
[305] So she was competing the 2000 Olympics and she made the team when she was 19 years old.
[306] To this day, she's still the youngest to be on that team.
[307] So it was kind of cool because I came out the womb and I just had somebody like look up to because my dad was like, you are going to be an athlete.
[308] And I was somebody other than hockey, which was really big here.
[309] So yeah, that's her.
[310] Oh, wow.
[311] That's so cool.
[312] her namesake.
[313] For me, my Olympic athlete, well, there were quite a few.
[314] Christy Yamaguchi was a big one for me. And also, Sean Johnson.
[315] I loved watching Sean compete in gymnastics.
[316] When I was younger, I was a gymnast, and then I pivoted full time into ballet and dance.
[317] I thought she was mesmerizing when she competed.
[318] She had the best landings, the biggest smile on her phase.
[319] I'm 5 '1.
[320] She was like 4 .11, so she gave me, you know, hope that short queens can also do big things.
[321] So I'm still to this day, actually, I'm being Sean Johnson girly.
[322] Coming up, Juju Gotti and Roz Golden Wooda, share their favorite moments from last weekend's WNBA All -Star game.
[323] Buddy Dusky, my sister, Ryski, how are you doing in a billion a day?
[324] Welcome, sis.
[325] How are you doing today?
[326] I'm so good.
[327] I'm so happy to see you again.
[328] I just saw you in Phoenix for All -Star and be working with you today.
[329] Right?
[330] Oh my goodness.
[331] It was a blessing.
[332] It was a last out there, too.
[333] When I saw you, I couldn't believe, like, first off, every time I see you, I can't believe I'm seeing you, because it's always in a place to be, if you know what I mean.
[334] And then we had a great combo.
[335] I saw you.
[336] I was like, what a juju?
[337] Hell yeah.
[338] You be conquering dragons.
[339] I can't believe he was wearing your headband in a 115 degree weather.
[340] It was so hot.
[341] Don't get me started on that.
[342] That's my insecurity versus anything.
[343] And it's left fashion, and now it's my forehead is so gigantic that I just want to put everything over it.
[344] And through the grace of God, it sticks, even in the heat.
[345] But, yeah, like, and real quick, like, you gave me nothing but positive energy.
[346] Like, I promise, like, I want to always take an opportunity to shout out people who helped me. Like, I was going through a little bit of a mental warfare, and you snatched me right up out of it.
[347] And reminded me of my value, reminded me of just who we are and where we are on this earth and why we're here.
[348] here.
[349] So always bit thanks to bit, sis, on the screen.
[350] You did.
[351] Oh, absolutely.
[352] I met that wholeheartedly.
[353] I absolutely remember the conversation.
[354] And, you know, you are that.
[355] So we thank you so much.
[356] Now, what stood out for you from this illustrious All -Star Weekend in Phoenix, Arizona?
[357] I'm even going to start out with the game.
[358] First of all, the product, the game was excellent.
[359] It was a competitive All -Star gave full stop.
[360] we got the ratings back 3 .44 million people watched it so okay people showed up and then I feel like I'm gonna just say team WNBA got their lick back Juju they got their lute you know first of foremost we are all super excited for team USA like they just recovered they were in London they just beat Germany they're heading into Paris momentum we're very excited for team USA but for team WNBA like you know there were a couple of girls who had some snubs along the way.
[361] And they got to shine.
[362] I mean, obviously, Areca Bulawale, 34 points in the second half.
[363] Really exciting style of game.
[364] She used her dribble set up her shot and rainbow pop it in.
[365] And I think fans who might be new will love that.
[366] NECA went off.
[367] Obviously, she's one of the biggest snubs in my heart for Team USA.
[368] And look, Caitlin, the rookies, WNBA rookie record tennisist and Angel came and showed up double -double.
[369] The rookie class, they're not hype.
[370] They belong.
[371] They deliver.
[372] How about you?
[373] What about you?
[374] Like you said, bro.
[375] Agum, bruh, people don't understand.
[376] She hit a buzzer -beater to win a national championship for Notre Dame.
[377] Kobe was like her big bro.
[378] So please, I always keep respect on Rike Agumwaile's name every single time.
[379] So I wasn't surprised, but like you said, they got that lit back.
[380] And I think for the rest of the earth.
[381] Earth, like for Earth, like the thing of Earth, like the mantle and the crust, that was the worst thing that could have happened to every other nation because now the team USA women got their look in their eyes.
[382] Now, Asia Wilson is back.
[383] You already didn't want to see Asia.
[384] But now Asia fresh off a loss, dare I say, I think the women going to continue their under when's the last time they lost?
[385] I think Dwight D. Eisenhower was in office.
[386] Or maybe not even then.
[387] So yeah, that's fair trouble.
[388] But you're right.
[389] That was a great win for team WNBA, sis.
[390] What else was I stood out for you?
[391] You know there were some other winners too.
[392] Yeah.
[393] Quiet as cap.
[394] And I want to see if you agree with me too.
[395] I think Flage and Paige Beckers won WMBLSA.
[396] Talk about it.
[397] They were huge winners.
[398] Like, okay, so our good sis Flage I don't know who was working harder.
[399] She did the boardroom coin -based party.
[400] She performed surprise at the Candace Parker party.
[401] Then she closed it out at the fenty party to wrap also up.
[402] Don't forget she came up for the ESP's performance.
[403] I mean, she was sitting courtside.
[404] She got fits off.
[405] She was having moments with Ellie, the elephant.
[406] I know she got to the bag.
[407] I know, Paul Jay, sis.
[408] I'm so happy to see myself getting to the bag.
[409] doing her thing she is multifaceted and for page i'm gonna just say page one because she's so dang cool and you like you would have thought you would have thought page was in the w the way she was just casually sitting with like let's right she had an all -star jacket on i was like wait page cool to hell man she's so cool as a fan nothing is trying too hard for page and there's so much respect going both ways the w respects her she would respect the w so you know he's calling girls coming up this next season they're going to blow up even bigger and the game's a good hand they won though.
[410] Hell yeah.
[411] And Flagee, she touring the world with a song with Weezy F. Baby excuse me pardon me little excuse me part of me in the greatest rapper alive since the best rapper retired come on salute.
[412] Be it salute to be it Flage like and like you said she not only performed at those places she crushed every single she slayed outfit being red kicks being like courts Yeah, I agree 100 % with you, man. So look at them, they future so bright that if I was them, I wouldn't mind sitting in college from a world.
[413] I'm going to use my whole eligibility out because they're getting paid.
[414] Right, right.
[415] I mean, there's a lot to be excited for it and heading to the W too.
[416] But, I mean, especially for Flaj, I mean, she's got it factor, you know.
[417] She's got an incredible story.
[418] She's incredibly talented and she's not afraid of anything.
[419] She shied, right, man. Her energy, you can feel her.
[420] Big Tom, you can feel her energy.
[421] And I saw breaking news for the first time in the history of the world.
[422] Her and Kalia Copper were in the same building at the same time, quelling all the rumors.
[423] They are not the same person, guys.
[424] I couldn't believe it.
[425] They're, in fact, not the same person.
[426] But I'm glad they were able to get that flick off.
[427] There were a couple of cute kids that came together.
[428] and duos and combinations that we didn't know we needed, but we absolutely did.
[429] Right, we did.
[430] I got a, I got to, uh, sit, Aubrey Plaza.
[431] You did?
[432] The world didn't know they needed, uh, me and Aubrey on the big screen.
[433] And guess what?
[434] They got it.
[435] And you did.
[436] So stay tuned.
[437] Stay tuned.
[438] You never know, you know, I mean?
[439] I asked sis, I'm like, hey, man, I'm trying to get into acting.
[440] Never, you never know what happened.
[441] Stay tuned.
[442] Good follow.
[443] What else stood out for you, sis?
[444] Yeah.
[445] And, you know, you had mentioned.
[446] impacted these players earlier and one thing that is more on like the serious side, the impact side is the WMBA and women's rights and this upcoming election.
[447] All energy right now is building up in the country for the November election.
[448] And I actually at WMBA all started giving you guys kind of a behind the seat.
[449] Look, hosted a panel with playmaker and social change.
[450] Fund United, and it was with Candace Parker, Natasha Cloud.
[451] It was with Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett.
[452] It was it was outstanding.
[453] And the reason why is because I expect to hear more and more from WNBA players on women's rights issues as we come into the key of the election, because who better to ask?
[454] I mean, the conversation was so dynamic, intense, urgent, passionate.
[455] Because who better than these women who are the fiercest, the most respected leaders of a league that is very unique and very influential in the WNBA to speak on topics like women's reproductive health access or the gender gaps or pay disparities?
[456] These are literally issues that are, that WNBA players live with, discuss, have to like, that.
[457] is part of their ecosystem right now every single day and also for the past years who better to talk to than these women and so um it was really dynamic and awesome and i expect i hope to hear more from these great women during this election season and that they are asked for their opinion hey well bruh if it was i wish it was a hundred people in here with me so we can give you your claus since stranjay and i love bro i love me some tasha cloud but tasha clod going to stand up.
[458] She's going to fight for us.
[459] She's going to tell you how she feels.
[460] She's going to stand with her people.
[461] Brue to Tasha Cloud for always being a big voice for most of us.
[462] You did.
[463] Great.
[464] For so many.
[465] And I think, too, like she did a great job of bringing out.
[466] The WNBA has often been at the forefront of social change for years over many different causes, you know.
[467] And then there's so much unique representation in the W. You know, Nataja Cloud raised her hand and say, yo, I represent for the poppies.
[468] You know, Candace Park will be going to come in.
[469] And, and then there's And she's a mother.
[470] She's actually experienced childbirth in different roles.
[471] You know, like there's so much diversity in the W, and that's what makes it unique.
[472] Right.
[473] And we don't seem the displays of power, like Vote Warnock.
[474] Two words.
[475] Vote Warnock changed the world when it came to.
[476] It started here in Atlanta, with Atlanta Dream, with Lafleur having those views.
[477] And them such stood up and said, uh -uh.
[478] Right, right.
[479] We're going to change.
[480] And they actually changed the world.
[481] So much respect to all the women.
[482] and who stand up.
[483] And salute to you for standing up for us, too, sis.
[484] Right.
[485] Could you add one more thought in on the W since we are on our soapbox right now?
[486] And it's not only on women's topics.
[487] The majority of the league is black women.
[488] So, you know, you're talking about a league that is not only diverse in race, but also has a majority group that is black, that is women.
[489] They're diverse in expression of femininity, in sexuality, in all sorts of ways.
[490] It's in body type.
[491] I mean, the W, I'm so glad is getting the flowers right now because it has a little bit of everything.
[492] I also salute to Alicia Gray.
[493] Oh, my God.
[494] That had my boy, girl.
[495] I was in here bawling like a damn baby in that damn arena looking at Alicia Gray because I know how humble.
[496] You see how humble she is and just how it grew.
[497] Oh, my God.
[498] Seeing her on that stage, it meant so much to me, man, that I was like, look, let me come.
[499] down.
[500] Let me go get me a shot or something before I be in here crying.
[501] So salute that Lisa Gray.
[502] That was really big for her.
[503] 55K each event.
[504] Yeah.
[505] With that one of your biggest things that came out of All -Star for you or do you have something else too?
[506] Absolutely.
[507] That was definitely one.
[508] The first one was you should have called Caitlin.
[509] That's one of the biggest ones.
[510] The second one.
[511] Yes, Alicia Gray, bro.
[512] Like just people as humble as her don't usually rise to the top as far as like just in front of the camera and so seeing her with the opportunity Asia supporting the Ryan Renee in the crowd going crazy oh my bro I'm telling you I'm going to call the Holy Spirit in there that night Hell yeah man What else excited?
[513] You got anything else that you loved about All -Star bro I really just love the camaraderie of it because a lot of this season has been highlighted around like controversy pitting each other pitting us against each other Is it got to be Caitlin?
[514] Is it got to be Angel?
[515] We can't just celebrate that Caitlin had a great game and then celebrate that Angel had a great game.
[516] No, it's always some of this.
[517] And everywhere I went, Caitlin was relaxed in this crowd that we're in, in there kicking, kicking, not even being hounded or cameras in their face.
[518] And Angel is well, like you was able to see these sisters interact with their actual family, which is the W and extended family, which is us, you know what I mean?
[519] It's like, that was so beautiful for me to see as a supporter because I know them sister's mental health sometimes be like, man, I just, I could say this if I wanted to or they got to defend themselves.
[520] So I love just to see them outside of the cameras and just just having a great time and with smiles on their faces.
[521] Yeah, you know, that's a really great point.
[522] It has been really combative, you know, storylines to start the W season and to see the love being reciprocated all around.
[523] It felt beautiful in there, man Yeah, man. It felt beautiful in there.
[524] You feel me?
[525] It topped off with me seeing you and Bitmo in the building.
[526] Come on, bro.
[527] Like, it was so much love, man. Saludemone buildings, man. We were like, I just support, I support every sister.
[528] Like, I'm in the Atlanta Dream supporter, of course.
[529] But it's hard for me not the root for Deerica Hamby.
[530] It's hard for me not the root for Ray Borell.
[531] It's hard for me not the root for each of Courtney Williams with a redemption story in Minnesota.
[532] It's off a Feebich in New York going for Germany yesterday.
[533] Like, bro, it's just so many amazing stories around the W and I can't wait for the world to tapping it.
[534] Even more.
[535] Even more.
[536] I think it's only going up coming out of the Olympic break.
[537] Second half of the W season, it's going to be like a stampede into the playoffs.
[538] Hell yeah.
[539] Because also I sing yesterday Satu back.
[540] And look.
[541] Dallas is a thing without Situ.
[542] but Dallas is something totally different with Sato, a healthy Tasha Howard, and you see Eureke what she out there doing.
[543] Absolutely, absolutely.
[544] And Odyssey Sims, I mean, hey, dare I say, look out for Dallas.
[545] 100%.
[546] Hell yeah, but yeah, man, every time I get a talk to you, sis, I promise to God, I feel like I'm back home.
[547] I feel like I'm with family.
[548] I'm with peace.
[549] And I just enjoy your presence every single time.
[550] Thank you so much for kicking it with the kid, man. On here, you did me. Oh, it's so good to see you, Juju.
[551] You are the best.
[552] I don't know how you don't sweat with all your clothes on.
[553] Now, that's a whole different stuff.
[554] I think it's just because you are too cool.
[555] That's what it is.
[556] So it was so good to see you in person.
[557] And this is our first time.
[558] This is our first moment together, right?
[559] Right.
[560] You dig us?
[561] Come on now.
[562] And with that being said, man, thank you.
[563] Good follow.
[564] We're going to kick this thing right back to our sister.
[565] Meg, what's happening?
[566] What's happening?
[567] It's been a three -year wait, but the Olympics are back, and the CBS Sports Podcast Network has you covered with everything happening in Paris.
[568] It's a new era for the U .S. women's national team, and attacking third will tackle all the women's soccer action.
[569] First cut will keep close tabs on golf, while beyond the arc will follow the U .S. men's basketball team on a quest for another gold.
[570] And we need to talk now.
[571] We'll provide comprehensive coverage of women's athletes at the Olympic Games.
[572] Follow and listen to all CBS Sports Podcasts for free on the Odyssey app and wherever you get your podcasts.
[573] Welcome back into GoodFollow and thank you to Roz and Juju for sharing their favorite All -Star weekend moments with us.
[574] And speaking of All -Star, it was announced that Bumble came on board as the first ever official dating app partner for the league.
[575] And as women's sports grow, more and more brands and industries are getting in on the action.
[576] So we're going to have a quick conversation and talk about our favorite collabs and partnerships in women's sports.
[577] And thank you, Megan, for asking this question, because I've been wanting to talk about this so bad.
[578] Jeez, I am obsessed with the drugstore makeup brands that have gotten on board in women's sports.
[579] There are quite a few cosmetic partners, but specifically the drugstore brands like Knicks, Melani, and Elf have all shown up to partner with either women's athletes or teams and leagues specifically.
[580] And I think it's really important from an accessibility and affordability standpoint for young people to watch their favorite athletes or go to games and see these partners sponsoring the teams.
[581] And if they go home and say, hey, Mom, I want this Nick's lip gloss.
[582] We know it's $3.
[583] And I think it's just such a natural, it makes sense.
[584] The audience is right there.
[585] I love seeing it happen and I love seeing these brands get on board.
[586] So Katie, as someone with a professional background in advertising, I would love your expert opinion on what brand or brands should sponsor specific women's sport.
[587] Yeah, thanks for that, Meg.
[588] I've been thinking a lot.
[589] I've been running the numbers, and I've been seeing a lot of gaps in some of these categories.
[590] There's some key brands that need to hop on before it is too late.
[591] We have Kodiak Pancake Mix.
[592] You need to get out on the volleyball game here.
[593] It's obvious the taglines, they write themselves.
[594] Pancake is real.
[595] Serve up something good.
[596] power up your day.
[597] This is cause for a celebration.
[598] Or simply, pancakes are better than waffles.
[599] Volleyball rules.
[600] Pancakes rule.
[601] No one wants to waffle.
[602] We're right there.
[603] You're right there.
[604] The opportunity is there.
[605] I could see I project about a 300 % increase in sales if you partner with a women's beach volleyball team.
[606] The next one, Husky Shovels.
[607] Again, we're sticking with beach volleyball here.
[608] Holes can appear anywhere on the ground or on your defensive court.
[609] You got to stay ready with Husky Shovels.
[610] A couple headlines.
[611] I'm just like off the top of the dome for quality diggs you get it um or attack the dirt uh or works just as hard as you do husky shovels my favorite my favorite maybe there's a play into the bumble stuff a tool that actually gets the job done that one's for the ladies out there um it's just a subtle nod to the digs you know um this market the shovel market is untapped I think we need to break ground.
[612] I think we need to break ground, and I think this could be a really great opportunity for the shovel market to make an impact.
[613] Maybe you can pass out shovels at beach volleyball games.
[614] I think that would be a fun giveaway.
[615] Everyone just has their own shovels in the stands.
[616] I don't know, I'm just riffing.
[617] I'm just brainstorming here.
[618] There's no bad ideas on brainstorming, you know?
[619] Oh, we got one last one.
[620] I would love your feedback on this third one.
[621] Simply spiked.
[622] It's just, it's right there.
[623] What are you guys?
[624] doing?
[625] What are you doing?
[626] Beach volleyball needs a drink.
[627] I don't know why they're sleeping on this.
[628] You sip, they spike.
[629] Get it?
[630] I like that one.
[631] Goes well with juicy plays.
[632] Oh, that's a tie into the brand, the brand language right there.
[633] Perfect for the pregame.
[634] Whoa.
[635] Whoa.
[636] Who likes to pregame?
[637] People that watch beach volleyball, who likes to warm up beach volleyball players?
[638] It's a hand in hand.
[639] It's an absolute home run, which I'm now mixing sports metaphors, but I don't know.
[640] They already do a juiciest moment in sports for the NFL, so I want them to bring women's sports into it.
[641] So that's number one.
[642] I also, I'm thinking just, again, off the top of the dome, sponsor summer women's tournament, winner gets to meet the Olympians, cash prize, beach, VIP party for you and your friends.
[643] Sponsored by Simply Spiked.
[644] I think it's great.
[645] I think it's an absolute slam dunk.
[646] You know, all I have to say is Don Draper could have never.
[647] I thank you for that compliment.
[648] He could have never.
[649] That's all I have to say.
[650] I specifically love the Simply Spiked.
[651] Right?
[652] And I would love, I can't wait to see this activation in real life.
[653] I am too.
[654] If we have any, if there's any marketing people that want to get in touch with my people, my people's people, it will take a while time to get in touch with me, but we will make it happen.
[655] I really hope it happens.
[656] Logan, do you have any, any ads?
[657] I feel like, I feel like I want to hear your thoughts.
[658] You're our Gen Z on the ground person who knows all the trends.
[659] What are we missing?
[660] I think these are like hitting the nail on the head or whatever you say, like especially the shovel one, because it's quirky.
[661] People are doing quirky things these days.
[662] It's something like you were saying it.
[663] And I'm like, who would have ever.
[664] thought of that, well, you're thinking of it, and I think it would just, it would hit my generation really well.
[665] The only thing I kept thinking about with the shovels was like holes, the movie.
[666] Oh, dig it up, uh, oh, dig it.
[667] Yeah.
[668] Dig it up.
[669] That's why I kept making that face because I was like expecting Shiaela Buff, which I don't think I want him near women's sports, but I kept picturing Shiaela Buff, like popping up in your presentation.
[670] I mean, we could do some type of hole situation.
[671] There is, I did find a former pro volleyball player, uh, Courtney Geera, who's a, who's a garden lover.
[672] And I think we need to partner with her and she needs to have her own garden shovel line with Husky.
[673] I think, and then she can, she can kind of bring us all in.
[674] It'll be, it'll be perfect.
[675] Well, thank you for putting this together.
[676] An incredible SWAT analysis, perfect pitch.
[677] Mad men could never.
[678] There are a ton of more.
[679] There's ton of more.
[680] So we'll do, we'll do another, we'll another do another deep dive in a couple weeks or so.
[681] All right.
[682] Well, stay tuned.
[683] When we come back from the break, we'll be talking Olympic women's soccer.
[684] Welcome back to Goodfellow, and it's now time for this week's draft king's picks.
[685] On Sunday, the four -time Olympic gold medalist U .S. women's national team played Germany in the group stage of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
[686] Germany are ranked fourth in the world with the U .S. right behind them at 5th.
[687] And I have a hot take here.
[688] I have this match ending in a draw.
[689] Don't come from me. I don't want you all in my mention.
[690] I think we're going to see a dynamic U .S. side, one that we've been wanting to see under Emma Hayes, but Germany cannot be overlooked, so I said what I said.
[691] I think it's ending in a draw.
[692] For players to watch, I'm going with forward Sophia Smith.
[693] At only 23 years old, Sophia has scored 20 goals for the senior national team.
[694] The first time Olympians scored on the big stage at the 2023 World Cup, and I think she'll start adding to her Olympic resume this weekend.
[695] These picks are brought to you by Draft Kings.
[696] visit sportsbook .draftkings .com or find the draftkings sportsbook wherever you get your apps.
[697] And so let's stay in the world of soccer for a minute.
[698] As of recording this, New Zealand and Canada have not yet played.
[699] However, it's already getting a little spicy because earlier this week, New Zealand claimed Canada spied on them during a training session with a drone and filed an official complaint with the IOC.
[700] And since then, FIFA has opened an investigation into Canada after they confirmed that a non -credentialed team analysts flew a drone over New Zealand's training.
[701] So, Logan, as are Canadian, half Canadian, what are your thoughts on this situation?
[702] I feel like it's illegal to be wearing this jersey right now, but I did want to wear it to support the players.
[703] I am flabbergasted because how could you be so dumb?
[704] A, but B, why New Zealand out of all teams, like we have Colombia and I want to say there's another really good team in our group, France, Colombia and France in our group.
[705] And you're spying on New Zealand with a drone during the Olympics when it's like illegal to fly anything above like 10 feet.
[706] You are insane and I don't know what the goal was.
[707] I almost don't even want to know what the goal was because it just doesn't make any sense.
[708] I'm dying to know what the goal was.
[709] I am dying, especially after coming out of Tokyo when it was like, this is like the big one.
[710] You know, everyone's like excited to be back.
[711] And I love that you're basically saying, like, just cheat better.
[712] Like, be smarter with your cheating.
[713] You know?
[714] If you're going to try.
[715] Or at least, like, try to kind of cover it up.
[716] When they detain the guy, apparently he was like, yeah, I did it.
[717] We were spying on him.
[718] Don't really know what to tell you here.
[719] His sentence got lowered.
[720] So maybe that's why.
[721] But just be better.
[722] It's just so, I mean, I know there are different types of drones.
[723] My partner flies of drones.
[724] so I've learned more about them.
[725] But what is funniest to me is depending on the type of drone.
[726] And I know that a lot of teams do use drones for training purposes when it's obviously like official and credentialed.
[727] But drones are loud.
[728] So like if you've tried to be like sneaky about it, they're so loud.
[729] You're like, oh, there's a drone spying on me. Coming out of this, Canada's head coach is supposed to set out the group stage opener.
[730] So things are getting spicy before it's really even started.
[731] I'm so scared to see what's going to happen because that's like our punishment, such a Canadian thing.
[732] Like we're so sorry we did this and we're going to fly our people home and then sit our coach for one game.
[733] So we have like one coach on the bench.
[734] But like the IOC could really mess everything up.
[735] And honestly, it might be deserved.
[736] Like I don't know how strict they are on that type of stuff.
[737] But even just thinking of it like firsthand, spying is like, what are you doing?
[738] I hope they don't get kicked out but I am very scared for this team and I do feel for the players because Bev Priestman, the head coach, apologize to not only the New Zealand team but to team Canada players as well.
[739] Yeah, that part stinks.
[740] Yeah, you work your tail off to get there and then some guy that has a drone obsession is like, I got an idea.
[741] What a way to start the defense of your gold medal.
[742] Yeah.
[743] We'll see how this transpires.
[744] Did someone bribe him to do it?
[745] Like, it feels like there's like, or was it just stupidity?
[746] I don't get it.
[747] I mean, if they really wanted to be smart, they would have gotten the Love Island producers, set up those cameras beforehand, so you can't see anything.
[748] You never know where the cameras are.
[749] And then you get all that footage back.
[750] And then no one's the wiser.
[751] Well, if you were going to go about it that way, then you were going to set up like a confessional.
[752] He was going to get caught and then go in and be like, look at the camera, sit down and say, yeah, I did it.
[753] They got five minutes of footage, for all we know, that could have been them, like, warming up.
[754] Like, what if they didn't start their practice yet?
[755] And it was literally all for nothing.
[756] It probably was.
[757] Right.
[758] It's like the part of the practice where media are allowed to film.
[759] Yeah.
[760] Before they make you put your cameras away.
[761] That's what they got.
[762] I also want to know, like, where was he?
[763] Was he, like, hiding in a bush outside the stadium and just, like, looking down at his thing.
[764] In full camo gear.
[765] You see a bush just, like, slowly creeping closer and closer to the field.
[766] These are the fun storylines.
[767] I mean, it's not that fun as we've discussed.
[768] But these are sort of like the funny quirks that happen in women's sports quite often that people aren't paying enough attention to.
[769] These things go on in men's sports all the time and they become headlines.
[770] Everyone talks about it.
[771] It's a whole scandal.
[772] This has been happening.
[773] We just get to talk about it more now because people are starting to pay attention.
[774] But it just makes you laugh.
[775] I was thinking about it this morning when I was taking my dog on a walk.
[776] I'm like, we are here.
[777] This is the time.
[778] Women's sports are front and center and we've got drones flying over soccer training.
[779] This is our deflate gate.
[780] This is equal opportunity.
[781] This is what we're here for.
[782] Well, the foundation of this show is that communities get built one good follow at a time.
[783] For this week's Good Follow, we're spoiled because we heard directly from many WNBA All -Stars themselves on who their WNBA good follows are.
[784] Check it out.
[785] Bam -Fam -Fam!
[786] Bam!
[787] Good follow.
[788] We in the building.
[789] Salute everybody involved.
[790] We had the All -Star practice, man. They're getting some shots up right now.
[791] We're about to ask these ladies a couple quick questions.
[792] Who is the best?
[793] social media follow in the WMBA.
[794] I mean, I think you got to go with the face of the lead, Sincolson.
[795] Seikosa.
[796] Either me or Sincorce.
[797] Stewie's pretty funny on social media.
[798] I think Angel's pretty entertaining.
[799] Good follow.
[800] Follow right now.
[801] Send us your nominations at Good Follow show and tell us why your good follow should be featured.
[802] Good follow is brought to you by Draft Kings.
[803] We'll see you all next week.
