[1] It's Tuesday, November 15th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] A Russian rocket reportedly hit the Polish village of Prashevedau near the Ukrainian border, killing two.
[3] In response, the Polish government convened a national security meeting.
[4] It is suspected that the rocket was intended for elsewhere in Ukraine.
[5] Walmart has joined CVS and Walgreens Pharmacies and agreeing to settle a lawsuit over its role in the opioid epidemic.
[6] Walmart agreed to pay $3 .1 billion, while CVS and Walgreens will pay $5 billion.
[7] In the settlement agreement, Walmart strongly disputed allegations that their pharmacies improperly filled prescriptions.
[8] The drug makers have already settled their lawsuits.
[9] The money from settlements now total over $50 billion.
[10] Former President Donald Trump is expected to announce his third presidential campaign Tuesday evening.
[11] The president has already received backing from GOP representatives Matt Gates of Florida and Elise DeFonik of New York, but has lost primary support from others, like Senator Cynthia Lummis, Vice President Mike Pence, as well as other conservatives.
[12] A new study from the New England Journal of Medicine found that lifting mask requirements in schools was supposedly associated with an additional 45 cases per 1 ,000 students and staff.
[13] The study further concluded that universal masking may mitigate the alleged effects of structural racism in school.
[14] The Artemis One rocket, an unmanned capsule headed to the moon, is set to launch early Wednesday morning.
[15] The initial launch was scheduled for Monday, but NASA delayed the takeoff due to hurricane winds.
[16] Grad students and University of California employees represented by the United Auto Workers Union walked out on Monday in an effort to protest working conditions and pay.
[17] Some teachers have canceled classes, but the campus remains open.
[18] Members of the climate activism group Last Generation Austria splashed a black oily liquid onto a famous painting by artist Gustav Klimt today at the Leopold Museum in Vienna.
[19] At least one activist glued himself to the painting's glass covering.
[20] The activists state that they're protesting their government's use of fossil fuels.
[21] Mexican military personnel were called to a popular tourist destination on Saturday when two bodies washed up onto the famous Playa Condessa in Acapocco, showing signs of having been tortured.
[22] A third body was found at a nearby beach on Sunday.
[23] Drug cartels are suspected to be involved.
[24] The manner of death has been released by authorities in connection to the four murdered teens found in an off -campus house near the University of Idaho on Sunday.
[25] According to the Moscow -Idao PD, the four students were fatally stabbed.
[26] Police still don't have a suspect in custody and have not released further information, but are currently calling it a targeted attack.
[27] As of this week, the world's population is estimated to have reached 8 billion people.
[28] That's according to a U .N. report.
[29] The same report says the world will hit 9 billion by 2037.
[30] Even though the 2022 midterm elections have all but concluded, the 2024 election cycle has begun.
[31] On Tuesday, Republican Congressman Alex Mooney announced that he will run for Senate in 2024 against moderate Democrat Senator Joe Manchin.
[32] A barrage of missiles rained down upon several Ukrainian energy facilities causing widespread blackouts across the country on Tuesday.
[33] According to Ukrainian President Zelensky, Russia fired at least 85 missiles, most of which were deliberately fired at energy facilities.
[34] Populist Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri has claimed this week that the takeaway from the 2022 midterms for the GOP should be that the party must focus on winning back independent working class voters if it hopes to stay alive.
[35] I think that this election was the funeral for the Republican Party, as we know it.
[36] The Republican Party, as we have known it, is dead.
[37] And voters have made that clear.
[38] And in particular, the folks who did not vote for Republicans in this last election were independent voters, working class independent voters, folks who voted for President Obama, once upon a time, folks who then voted for President Trump, but stayed home this time.
[39] We are not a majority party unless we can appeal to those voters.
[40] A white sign language interpreter is suing.
[41] the Broadway hit show The Lion King for his alleged firing based on the color of his skin.
[42] Fox News reports that Keith Wan was hired as a substitute interpreter for a showing of the hit musical.
[43] According to Juan's attorney, the man received an email notifying him that he will no longer be eligible for the role due to his race.
[44] That's pretty straightforward.
[45] They pretty much admit in their email that they are retracting the offer because he is white and there is a statue that says that people have the right to contract regardless of their race.
[46] In Oregon, voters approved a measure to add language to the state's constitution to state that affordable health care is a human right.
[47] According to Oregon public broadcasting, the Beaver State is now the first in the nation to include such a statement in a state constitution.
[48] And in some holiday news, the original home used in the movie A Christmas Story is up for sale in Cleveland, Ohio.
