[0] Amid multiple crises, domestically and abroad, President Biden attempts to reset the narrative on U .S. foreign policy.
[1] Instead of continuing to fight the wars of the past, we are fixing our eyes on devoting our resources and the challenges that hold the keys to our collective future.
[2] What does President Biden say are his priorities, and did his first United Nations address ease the growing pressure on his presidency?
[3] I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor -in -Chief John Bickley.

[17] While facing multiple ongoing crises, both domestically and internationally, President Joe Biden spoke to the UN General Assembly for the first time as president this week.
[18] Here to discuss is Daily Wires Ian Howard.
[19] So, Ian, President Biden has been dealing with a number of setbacks research.
[20] There was Afghanistan, there's the crisis at the border, the recent blow -up with France over the Australia deal, and this speech was seen as a way to kind of regain control over the narrative.
[21] Can you tell us what came out of this speech?
[22] Yeah, you're right.
[23] It's definitely been a turbulent few weeks for the Biden administration, to say the least.
[24] In the speech, he condemned military conflict and simultaneously criticized China, but not by name, for its human rights abuses while also countering their claims that the U .S. is seeking a new cold war.
[25] The speech also focused on COVID -19 and climate change and the idea that working together, along with significant American financial support, is the way to address the world's problems.
[26] Yet again, President Biden celebrated the supposed end of war in Afghanistan without reference to the Americans, green card holders, and Afghan allies still trapped in the country, choosing instead to look to the future.
[27] We've ended 20 years of conflict in Afghanistan.
[28] And as we close this period of relentless war, we're opening a new era for Atlanta's diplomacy.
[29] But with the ongoing crises under the Biden administration, both at home and abroad, this message wasn't received too kindly by critics.
[30] In what way?
[31] Well, Nikki Haley, who was U .S. ambassador to the United Nations during the Trump administration, said that the speech, quote, ignored the reality and seriousness of America's threats and enemies.
[32] And then there's Senator Tom Cotton, who said that Biden, quote, walked into the United Nations today and put a giant kick -me sign on Uncle Sam's back.
[33] He literally would not use the name China.
[34] He was like a scared child from a Harry Potter novel who wouldn't say Voldemort's name because he was afraid about what might happen.
[35] And after the UN address, President Biden met with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
[36] The two discussed Northern Ireland, climate change in Afghanistan during a 90 -minute meeting, after which Biden played down the chances of a UK -US trade deal, a deal which remains a priority of the UK government following the aftermath of Brexit.
[37] And there was some controversy after this meeting, when White House staff ordered reporters to leave after Boris Johnson asked if the pair could answer some questions from journalists.
[38] So no questions.
[39] Were there any other key takeaways?
[40] Actually, yeah, the Taliban asked to address world leaders at the event, which is held at the UN headquarters in New York City.
[41] The request to participate will be considered by a credentials committee whose members include the U .S., China and Russia.
[42] However, it's unlikely they'll meet until the end of this session, and so Afghanistan's current ambassador will remain in place.
[43] despite the fact that the Taliban said his mission no longer represents Afghanistan.
[44] And we shouldn't forget, having the Taliban play any part in high -level debate in the United Nations would make it even more difficult for anyone to argue that the UN has any common values in terms of basic human rights.
[45] Thanks for the update, Ian.
[46] That's Daily Wires, Ian Howarth.

[52] More than 500 female athletes have filed a brief asking the Supreme Court to reject a Mississippi law banning abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy.
[53] Here to tell us more is Daily Wire sports reporter Joe Morgan.
[54] Joe, tell us a little more about this brief.
[55] Sure, Georgia.
[56] On Monday, the Supreme Court set a date, December 1st, to hear the case of the Mississippi law that would ban abortions after 15 weeks in most circumstances.
[57] Opponents to the law have stated that his passing could set a precedent to overturn Roe v. Wade.
[58] Also, on Monday, over 500 women, including U .S. women's soccer player, Megan Rapino, called on the Supreme Court to strike down the law in an amicus brief as part of the Dobbs v. Jackson women's health case.
[59] 73 professional athletes, 26 Olympians, and 276 college athletes signed the brief.
[60] The group called themselves Amici.
[61] Okay, and what exactly are there legal arguments?
[62] Essentially, the brief states that the, quote, enormous success of women's sports has been assisted by abortion.
[63] So the central argument here is that abortion or access to abortion is necessary for women to thrive in athletics?
[64] Yes.
[65] Here's a quote from the briefing.
[66] All of the amici have exercised, relied on the availability of, or support the constitutional right to abortion care in order to meet the demands of their sport and unleash their athletic potential.
[67] There are numerous statements in the brief, including the captain of the 1992 Olympic swim team and Olympic gold medalist swimmer Chrissy Perram.
[68] Param says that she had an abortion in college.
[69] And she said that this impacted her athletic career.
[70] Correct.
[71] She says she accidentally became pregnant while on scholarship in college, though she said she was on birth control.
[72] She then decided to have an abortion.
[73] She said, and I am quoting here, I wasn't ready to be a mom, and having an abortion felt like I was given a second chance at life.
[74] I was able to take control of my future and refocus my priorities.
[75] Perrin went on to discuss the success she had in a professional career after having her abortion, including becoming an Olympian and eventually a mother.
[76] You also mentioned Megan Rapino.
[77] What did she have to say about this?
[78] Yes, Rapino said that the U .S. is trying to deny us control over our bodies, which is un -American and infuriating.
[79] The brief argues that men and women only have a short window to achieve their greatest athletic potential, and that not allowing women to have abortions could have a negative impact on their careers and economic futures.
[80] Joe, thanks for reporting.
[81] Now, you got it.
[82] That's Daily Wire sports reporter Joe Morgan.
[83] This week, police confirmed that they'd found the body of 22 -year -old Gabby Petito at a national park near Grand Teton, Wyoming.
[84] The case, which grabbed headlines across the country, has now been ruled a homicide and a person of interest, Petito's boyfriend Brian Laundry, is on the run.
[85] Here with the details is Daily Wire Managing Editor Cabot Phillips.
[86] So Cabot first, what are the big updates here?
[87] Well, the big update is that a coroner's office outside of Grand Teton National Park has confirmed the identity of this body.
[88] It is Gabby Petito.
[89] And also, they've confirmed that the cause of death was homicide.
[90] So we're still waiting for details on exactly what it was.
[91] but it is a homicide at this point.
[92] And these are the preliminary results, correct?
[93] Correct.
[94] Okay.
[95] So for those who haven't been following this as closely as a lot of people, can you kind of walk us through the timeline here of what happened?
[96] Yeah, so a little background here, Gabby Petito and Brian Laundry were travel bloggers.
[97] They had a fairly large social media following and documented their outdoor adventures and road trips on YouTube and Instagram.
[98] Since June, they'd been on a cross -country trip, living out of Gabby's van, and uploading videos and photos of themselves along the way.
[99] So for two months, everything seemed fine.
[100] But then on August 12th, police in Moab, Utah, responded to a 911 call regarding the couple.
[101] That was kind of the first sign of trouble.
[102] And I'd like to report a domestic dispute.
[103] We drove by and the gentleman with slapping the girl.
[104] And then we stopped.
[105] They ran up and down the sidewalk.
[106] He proceeded to hit her, hopped in the car, and they drove off.
[107] When police tracked down the two after that call, Gabby told them that she was actually the aggressor in the situation.
[108] In body cam footage, she downplayed any violence from Brian and said she had OCD and it made her act crazy sometimes.
[109] Now, it's worth pointing out here, domestic violence experts say that sadly this is a common response from victims of abuse.
[110] So police let the two go, and they went on with their trip, uploading more photos and pictures along the way.
[111] So to the outside world, everything still seemed fine.
[112] So when exactly did Gabby go missing?
[113] The last contact she had with anyone was a call with her mom on August 25th.
[114] She told her that she'd be traveling up to Grand Teton and Yellowstone in Wyoming, and that's where law enforcement state she went missing.
[115] And a few days later, on September 1st, Brian Laundrie returned to his family's home in Florida without Gabby.
[116] When she was reported missing by her family on September 11th, Brian and his family offered no answers as to where she was.
[117] And then two days later, when he was named a person of interest in the case, Brian disappeared, and that set off a massive manhunt across Florida.
[118] Right.
[119] Have there been any new leads there?
[120] Not really.
[121] Police got a tip from his family that he reportedly might be in a nature reserve in Sarasota County.
[122] So that's where they've been concentrating the search so far with dogs and drones and around 50 law enforcement officers.
[123] But authorities have cautioned that it's going to be tough to find him.
[124] He's an experienced hiker and outdoorsman.
[125] And he knows the area.
[126] So he could be able to live off the land for a while.
[127] Now, there was also a viral photo captured on a trail cam in a remote part of Florida that a lot of people thought on social media.
[128] media could have been laundry, but authorities did say they're confident it's not him.
[129] And how about how the police found her body?
[130] Can you walk us through that?
[131] This part was interesting.
[132] From what we can tell, social media appears to have played a role in them finding her body.
[133] So this story, when it initially broke, went viral on TikTok.
[134] There were over 500 million views on the hashtag Gabby Petito.
[135] After seeing some videos on the case, one couple actually realized that they'd captured footage of Gabby's van when they were visiting a remote part of Grand Teton Park on August 27th.
[136] So they uploaded footage of Gabby's van parked on the side of the road, and that video went viral, and a short time later, reports say police found her body close by where that footage was taken on September 19th, and then two days later is when the case was ruled a homicide.
[137] Some have been asking why this story has gotten so much attention.
[138] What are people saying there?
[139] Well, a big part of this is just the fact that Petito and Laundry were pretty popular on social media.
[140] Their lives were incredibly well documented in videos and pictures online, and they seemed happy.
[141] So when it was announced Gabby went missing, people didn't view her as a random young woman, but more like someone they knew.
[142] They felt like they'd really been keeping up with these two's lives.
[143] There have also been other explanations.
[144] MSNBC host Joy Reid, for example, said race played a role.
[145] She called it, quote, missing white woman syndrome, which is something that was trending throughout the week on social media.
[146] But the way this story has captivated the nation has many wondering, why not the same media attention when people of color go missing?
[147] Well, the answer actually has a name.
[148] Missing White Woman Syndrome.
[149] Now, it is worth pointing out.
[150] Reed caught a lot of flack for those comments.
[151] Critics said that it was an unnecessary example of her injecting race into the tragedy.
[152] Well, yeah, it is a truly tragic story.
[153] Hopefully we get more answers soon.
[154] Thanks, Cabot.
[155] Absolutely.
[156] That's DailyWire managing editor, Cabot Phillips.
[157] Other stories were tracking this week.
[158] The U .S. House passed legislation on Tuesday to raise the debt ceiling with zero Republican support.
[159] The measure, which will fund the government through early December, faces an uphill battle in the Senate because Republicans have vowed not to support it.
[160] Violence broke out again in Australia this week over vaccine mandates.
[161] On Wednesday, police in Melbourne fired rubber bullets and tear gas at citizens protesting mandates for construction workers.
[162] The crackdown took place after around 400 people rallied at a war memorial on the third straight day of protests.
[163] And Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan is expected to sign a bipartisan budget proposal next week that bans state health officials from enforcing mask mandates in schools and prevents public agencies from enforcing vaccine mandates for customers and employees.
[164] Under the order, local school districts will be able to implement mask mandates independently.
[165] A recent poll found Whitmer trailing six points behind Challenger James Craig, a former Detroit police chief.
