Morning Wire XX
[0] I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor -in -Chief John Bickley.
[1] It's Wednesday, May 17th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] With 72, having voted in the affirmative and 48 in the negative, the motion carries.
[3] Having passed by the requisite three -fifths vote, the House has overridden the governor's veto and the bill becomes law, notwithstanding the governor's objections.
[4] So be notified.
[5] North Carolina, Republicans voted to override Democratic Governor Roy, Roy, Cooper's veto of a 12 -week abortion ban, using their supermajority to put the pro -life measure into law.
[6] Here with more is Daily Wire's senior editor, Joel Neeler.
[7] The law bans abortions after the first trimester, with exceptions for rape or incest until 20 weeks, and fetal abnormalities until 24 weeks.
[8] The override required all Republicans in the statehouse, including a recently defected Democrat, to vote together.
[9] The governor had hoped to flip the Republicans on the edge of the issue, arguing that it would lead to harm for pregnant women and their families, but was unable to do so.
[10] The House voted 72 to 48 to implement the abortion ban.
[11] Sherrell Parker, who on Tuesday won the Democratic nomination for Philadelphia's upcoming mayoral election, was hospitalized later that same day, causing her to miss her victory celebration.
[12] Here with more is Daily Wire senior editor, Cabot Phillips.
[13] 50 -year -old Cheryl Park, who campaigned largely on addressing the city's recent crime wave, won the Democratic primary with 33 % of the vote, defeating former city controller Rebecca Reinhart and progressive candidate Helen Jim.
[14] Shortly after her victory, Parker was hospitalized after what her campaign described as a, quote, recent dental issue that required immediate medical attention.
[15] Parker will now take on Republican David O in the November 7th general election.
[16] Cable networks, Fox News, and CNN are both making changes to their primetime lineup.
[17] The Drudge Report reported today that Sean Hannity will take over Fox's 8th, p .m. time slot left open by the firing of Tucker Carlson.
[18] That same report states that Jesse Waters and Greg Gutfeld will also be shifting into the prime time.
[19] However, Fox News denied the reporting, issuing a statement saying no decision has been made on a new prime time lineup.
[20] Meanwhile, CNN did announce that Caitlin Collins, who moderated the recent Donald Trump Town Hall, will take the helm at the network's 9 p .m. show, which had belonged to Chris Cuomo and then Don Lemon.
[21] The governments of Ukraine and Turkey announced an extension of the deal which allows Ukraine grain to be exported from Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea.
[22] Turkey's president told media that the deal would be extended for 60 days.
[23] The original deal was set to expire this Thursday and the extension was brokered by the United Nations.
[24] Here's UN World Program Director Cindy McCain, wife of the late U .S. Senator John McCain, speaking on the importance of the agreement.
[25] Yes, they must renew the deal.
[26] We can't, you know, possibly be able to feed the region, let alone the world, unless they do.
[27] Ukraine used to be pretty much the breadbasket of Europe, and now that's not happening.
[28] And we need to get the grain out because it's affecting other countries.
[29] The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has rejected convicted fraudster Elizabeth Holmes bid to remain out of prison while she appeals the convictions against her.
[30] Here with more as Daily Wire's senior editor, as short.
[31] Holmes, the founder and CEO of failed blood testing company, Theranos, will have to report to prison, leaving behind her current partner and her two young children, both of whom she had after being charged with fraud.
[32] According to the Associated Press, a date has not been set for when Holmes will have to report to prison.
[33] The decision comes nearly three weeks after Holmes' legal team successfully delayed her sentence from her original start date of April 27.
[34] And Prince Harry, Megan Markle, along with Markle's mother, Doria Raglan, claimed that they were involved in a car chase with paparazzi for over two hours on Tuesday night.
[35] A spokesperson for the family described the incident as near catastrophic and that it happened following an event in New York City where Markle received a Woman of Vision Award.
[36] The spokesperson also said it was a relentless pursuit that resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrian.
[37] and two NYPD officers.
[38] However, the New York City Police Department stated that there were no collisions, injuries, or arrests made.
[39] The couple's cab driver, who was interviewed by the Washington Post, stated, quote, I don't think I would call it a chase.
[40] I never felt like I was in danger.
