[8] Alle Infos zu Ihrem Traumhaus und zum Energiepaket auf wolfhaus .at Hello, everybody, and welcome back to The Advisor with Stacey Chilemi.
[9] And today I'm very excited because we have a very special guest today.
[10] We have Christy Jakes on the show, and she is a musician.
[11] So I'm very excited to have her on the show.
[12] She has a whirlwind of music that she's made, and she's coming out with a song, actually, I believe this month.
[13] And she's going to tell you a little about that herself.
[14] But before we begin, I just want to thank you so much for coming on the show.
[15] I grew up where I live in South Carolina, born and raised.
[16] And I had a musical family.
[17] We listened to everything.
[18] My father made me listen to country music every morning before school.
[19] And of course, after that, I went the other way.
[20] But music has always been part of my life.
[21] I was actually type 1 diabetes when I was 12.
[22] Wow.
[23] So that's always been a part of me. But I keep going and try to do as well as I can.
[24] Mm -hmm.
[25] Now I live in Myrtle Beach and just creating music, living with my puppy, getting puppy snuggles, writing, recording, playing guitar, and honestly living my...
[26] happiest life, despite the obstacles.
[27] Right.
[28] I think it's, you know, so important for people to realize that, you know, we all go through obstacles and learn how to rise above the chaos, overcome our obstacles and move forward in life because everybody has something.
[29] It's just learning how to Cope with it, learn how to deal with it and not let it stop us from living our best life.
[30] Because if we, you know, we can make those dreams a reality.
[31] We just have to believe in ourselves and learn how to deal with the things in our lives that, you know, that we battle with on either daily basis or, you know, on a concurrent basis.
[32] We have to learn how to just cope with it and get through it, you know.
[33] And, you know, you've done an amazing job with that.
[34] Can you tell us a little more about yourself and what really inspired you to make the music you do?
[35] Because you have a real passion for making music and you really love to go really deep into your music and bring that emotional factor out.
[36] Can you tell people a little bit why music plays such a huge role in your life and what it's done for you?
[37] kind of let music go for far too long, a few decades.
[38] Yeah.
[39] But then when 2020 happened, I had nowhere to go, nothing to do.
[40] I got on YouTube and went down that rabbit hole and listened to an amazing musician who inspired me, made me remember.
[41] Who I was and who I wanted to be.
[42] Mm -hmm.
[43] And I got my brother's guitar down off the wall.
[44] Kind of cleaned it up, restrung it.
[45] Found a great co -writer.
[46] Mm -hmm.
[47] A great teacher.
[48] And I was off to the races.
[49] I love it.
[50] And I have not looked back since.
[51] That's amazing.
[52] I started really writing and digging in in 2021.
[53] And I've put out two albums and probably a dozen singles since then.
[54] So, yeah, it's something I just love and can't do without.
[55] Are there a certain type of music you like to focus on?
[56] Well, honestly, I have a little bit of country, a little bit of pop, a little bit of rock in all my songs.
[57] Right.
[58] And that's what I listen to.
[59] I listen to everything.
[60] I'm really digging into the blues right now, too.
[61] Yeah.
[62] I'm loving it all.
[63] You know, and I'm not a very proficient guitar player by any means.
[64] Luckily, I have a producer and co -writer who is amazing.
[65] Yeah.
[66] I call him my magician.
[67] He does the things that I'm not so good at.
[68] Aww.
[69] But I'm learning.
[70] I'm getting better.
[71] Oh, yeah.
[72] You know, it doesn't matter what profession you're in.
[73] There's never, you know, there's never enough time.
[74] There's always learning to be done, you know.
[75] And for someone who thinks that they know it all, those are the ones who don't know anything.
[76] And the people who are always open -minded and want to learn more and are always, you know, learning ways, you know, to make themselves better, those are the ones who succeed and grow and elevate to different levels.
[77] Yeah.
[78] Now, your health, you know, you've gone through a lot of challenges health -wise.
[79] You know, what are some of the things, you know, in your life that you had struggled with that kind of, you know, inspired you to really want to share, you know, and get to this point?
[80] Because you mentioned that resilience played a big role in your life, you know, and, you know.
[81] Can you tell people a little about yourself and some of the struggles that you've gone through and how that has made you stronger and has built you up in a positive way?
[82] Absolutely.
[83] Back in 2008, I lost my daughter.
[84] She was a stillbirth.
[85] Very end of the pregnancy.
[86] Wow.
[87] And I was in the hospital for about three weeks with an infection of unknown causes.
[88] Wow.
[89] They wanted to do experimental surgery on me, which are two words that should never go together.
[90] No. So I made them send me to the medical university.
[91] The Medical University took me off every medicine, every antibiotic they had me on.
[92] And somehow my fever and everything went away.
[93] Wow.
[94] The reaction to all those medications.
[95] Yeah.
[96] And then I think that sent me into a downward spiral.
[97] Because now I have an autoimmune condition.
[98] in my lungs that was diagnosed in 2009.
[99] Wow.
[100] And I did put it into remission a couple of times with some holistic products, but then they stopped working.
[101] So I tried something different.
[102] Always trying something new and different.
[103] Yeah.
[104] Where I can get my hands on.
[105] And I was...
[106] Doing great.
[107] Putting on music festivals.
[108] I ran a non -profit organization.
[109] And 2019, I got COVID before it was COVID.
[110] Oh, wow.
[111] I was traveling a lot.
[112] Everywhere, around a lot of people from all over the world.
[113] Yeah.
[114] And I got really sick.
[115] Luckily, I already had an oxygen machine here at home because I didn't move off the couch away from that oxygen machine for about two weeks.
[116] Wow.
[117] And I live alone, so I didn't know.
[118] I still can't remember how I got to and from the bathroom or to the front door to get my DoorDash.
[119] Yeah.
[120] But I did it.
[121] Wow.
[122] I did it.
[123] And I got better.
[124] And I just went from there.
[125] I still have ups and downs, good days, bad days.
[126] Yeah.
[127] On those bad days, I can go into really dark places until it's time for my guitar lesson.
[128] Oder eine Songwriting -Session.
[129] Genau.
[130] Alle Infos zu Ihrem Traumhaus und zum Energiepaket auf wolfhaus .at And that's why I can't let it go.
[131] That's why I try so hard.
[132] Yeah.
[133] Well, it seems like it brings a lot of joy also.
[134] And it's a healing process too.
[135] I know a lot of people, you know, who sing, you know, it's not only just the love for music.
[136] It's also, it heals them inside.
[137] You know, they're taking those emotions that they have inside and it's really coming to the surface and then they're able to, you know, really get it out.
[138] But they're getting it out in harmony, you know, where other people might get it out and, you know, they might start crying or some people might start yelling or everyone has their own way of dealing with emotions.
[139] And then you have musicians who really get it out through the magic of harmony and being able to really, you know, put it into melodies and to really, you know, do it.
[140] in such a graceful and beautiful way.
[141] And the great thing about it is that it resonates with so many people.
[142] And I think the best singers and the singers that do the best is the ones that sing from their heart because you can feel it when you listen to their songs.
[143] You know the ones who are just singing to sing and you know the ones who are singing and it's coming from their heart.
[144] And it's a lot different when it comes from their heart.
[145] Right.
[146] It really is.
[147] And I feel like music is definitely a way to heal the body and to heal the soul.
[148] Do you feel the same way?
[149] Oh, absolutely.
[150] I'm glad that it took me this long to get started.
[151] Because now I have a story to tell.
[152] Yeah.
[153] I don't know what I would have written about 30 years ago.
[154] Right.
[155] Because it was a bunch of nonsense going on.
[156] But now I have a story.
[157] Things that I feel deeply about.
[158] Right.
[159] It's helping.
[160] That's beautiful.
[161] Now you have a song coming out.
[162] Tell us a little about the song that's coming out soon.
[163] It's called Change.
[164] And it's coming out on the 21st.
[165] And it's really about.
[166] Not giving up.
[167] And if you look at all my songs, listen to my songs, that's kind of an underlying theme.
[168] Yeah.
[169] Strength, resilience, not giving up.
[170] And one of my songs is called Never Give In.
[171] Right.
[172] So I think sometimes I have to write it to give myself a little boost.
[173] Yeah.
[174] And it helps.
[175] What inspired you the most to write this song?
[176] I don't remember.
[177] I know that I'll have lyrics come to me in the middle of the night.
[178] Right, right.
[179] And I have to write them down.
[180] Right.
[181] That happens relatively frequently.
[182] Right.
[183] And I think that was one of these times.
[184] It's keep going, never give up.
[185] I can see the finish line.
[186] I love that.
[187] I hear a lot of people talk about that, like sometimes in the middle of the night or they can be sitting behind a desk or they could just be sitting down and then all of a sudden a flourish of thoughts and words come through their head.
[188] And like you said, you'd have to write them down.
[189] And then afterwards, It was really hard to remember, you know, but they could feel the emotion.
[190] They can feel everything while these thoughts are coming through and these words are coming through.
[191] And I think it's great that you were able to write it down and then put it into melody.
[192] That's why I have my phone on me all the time.
[193] And so I can use the notes app.
[194] Yeah, yeah.
[195] That's where I put everything.
[196] I love it.
[197] Sometimes it's just a word.
[198] Sometimes it's a phrase.
[199] You never know.
[200] Oh, I love that.
[201] Pages and pages of stuff in there.
[202] Wow.
[203] So once you publish, how many songs have you published already that are on the market right now?
[204] Maybe 20 -something.
[205] Wow.
[206] Where can people find your songs?
[207] I'm on all streaming platforms, Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, I think everywhere.
[208] Oh, I love it.
[209] I love it.
[210] I've got videos on YouTube.
[211] I'm trying to do TikTok.
[212] I'm not so good at it, but, you know, it's a learning curve.
[213] Right, no, definitely, definitely.
[214] Instagram and Facebook.
[215] Oh, that's amazing.
[216] That is so amazing.
[217] And the next one, so the next one will be out on the 21st, I think you said, or was it the 21st?
[218] Yeah, the 21st.
[219] Oh, wow.
[220] So the first place they'll see it on all those streaming apps that you just talked about?
[221] Yes.
[222] Oh, wow.
[223] And how has music changed your life?
[224] It gives me something to occupy my mind.
[225] I come in here every day, play a little guitar, do my vocal exercises, which is also good for my breathing, by the way.
[226] Yeah.
[227] And I see where the day takes me. Tomorrow I have a songwriting session.
[228] Wow.
[229] That's when my producer and I really have fun.
[230] Yeah.
[231] Oh, that's amazing.
[232] That's amazing.
[233] And what do you see yourself doing in the future?
[234] Living.
[235] And once I'm healed, I want to get up on a stage with some friends and play a show.
[236] Right.
[237] I've not been able to do that yet.
[238] So that is a big goal for me. I would also love to write a song with the man who inspired me. Oh, I like that idea.
[239] He's so super busy all the time.
[240] Wow.
[241] Well, you never know.
[242] You never know what the future may bring.
[243] You never know what tomorrow may bring.
[244] Yeah.
[245] I believe, you know, that all dreams can become a reality.
[246] You know, you just, whatever we focus on at the end of the rainbow can definitely be, you know, you manifest it and it will happen.
[247] It definitely will.
[248] You put your time, your effort, your energy into it and you believe it and there's no reason why it can't happen.
[249] Yeah, you see it happening in your mind.
[250] Yes.
[251] And you keep going for it.
[252] And you keep doing it.
[253] And the energy, the clarity of what's going to happen, it becomes real.
[254] And you keep working on it.
[255] And it manifests.
[256] It manifests into something really special.
[257] I agree.
[258] I love it.
[259] I love it.
[260] And so where can people find you?
[261] So they find you on all the web streaming.
[262] You're on YouTube also, right?
[263] Yes.
[264] That's wonderful.
[265] And I have a website.
[266] It's christyjakesmusic .com.
[267] Pretty straightforward.
[268] And again, on Facebook and Instagram.
[269] And I love connecting with people.
[270] And I love to get people's thoughts on what's going on.
[271] And, you know, if they like something about.
[272] Or maybe they don't.
[273] Right.
[274] Just having a conversation with others.
[275] I think it's important.
[276] Oh, I definitely.
[277] We're also disconnected.
[278] It's kind of good to connect even online.
[279] Oh, definitely.
[280] Definitely.
[281] I think it's wonderful what you're doing.
[282] I really, you know, I really love that you're really bringing, you know, your thoughts and your feelings and your life experiences to life, you know, by turning them into music and really being able to connect with others and really help others through your music because music is healing.
[283] And music could really help heal another human being.
[284] And that's what's so wonderful about it, is that it brings up those repressed emotions.
[285] And then we learn how to cope with them.
[286] We learn how to deal with them.
[287] And it helps us learn who we are as an individual.
[288] Yes.
[289] And I have won a couple of awards.
[290] Oh, that's wonderful.
[291] Indie Music Channel.
[292] So I won one last year for...
[293] Best Pop Artist.
[294] Cool.
[295] That's great.
[296] Yeah, it was kind of exciting.
[297] Very exciting.
[298] I love that.
[299] I love that.
[300] Well, good for you.
[301] That's wonderful.
[302] Now, if you had to take everything we talked about today and you really wanted to emphasize on some important factors, what are some of the things you'd like to really emphasize to our listeners?
[303] Keep going, never give up.
[304] Right.
[305] Everybody has struggles.
[306] My struggles I view as a speed bump.
[307] You might have to go a little slower.
[308] Right.
[309] It might take a little longer to get where you're going.
[310] Right.
[311] But as long as you're moving forward, it's all good.
[312] I love that.
[313] I love that.
[314] That is excellent advice.
[315] It really is.
[316] It really is.
[317] And you also mentioned that you also have a GoFundMe page that you wanted to mention about.
[318] Yes, it's helping me with those pesky medical bills.
[319] Yeah.
[320] Where can people find it?
[321] It is actually on the, it's pinned on the top of my Instagram profile and Facebook.
[322] And it's in my link in bio.
[323] Okay.
[324] I love it.
[325] I love it.
[326] This has been amazing.
[327] Is there anything you'd like to add to this, you know, conversation before we go?
[328] No, I just love to get people to listen, like and share and comment.
[329] Yeah.
[330] I just want to reach more people.
[331] Maybe help a few.
[332] I love it.
[333] Yes, definitely.
[334] And I think what you're doing is very special.
[335] I love that you didn't let all these obstacles that came your way, you know, get you down.
[336] Instead, you took what you, you know, you once loved as a child and then you had stopped for a while and then you kind of rebirthed it.
[337] And you were able to really recreate something that you really loved doing.
[338] And you created a music career for yourself.
[339] And not only did you create the music career, but you're singing and you're sharing about something that really means something special to you in your heart.
[340] And you're able to share it with others.
[341] And that's a beautiful thing.
[342] Yeah, I've been living my dream.
[343] What?
[344] I said, now I'm living my dream.
[345] You're living your dream.
[346] Yes, you are.
[347] And you're helping people at the same time through your music.
[348] I think that's wonderful.
[349] I think that's wonderful.
[350] So they can just go on on the 21st, you said, and they'll have your new song will be on there.
[351] And then you'll have all your other songs are listed on there as well.
[352] So they could take a look at all your other songs too.
[353] Correct?
[354] Absolutely.
[355] Wonderful.
[356] I believe on the 21st I'm going to be doing a live stream.
[357] Oh, nice.
[358] So if they start following me on the socials, they can get the announcement about that and they can join in.
[359] I love it.
[360] I love it.
[361] That's amazing.
[362] Well, this has been amazing, Christy.
[363] I love having you on the show today.
[364] You are a whirlwind of inspiration.
[365] You really inspire me. And, you know, I really love seeing people who go through so much in life and they don't let it get them down.
[366] And they do whatever they can to try to, you know, get through it, overcome it.
[367] Dann turn it around and make something beautiful of it.
[368] Not only do they make something beautiful of it, but they're helping people at the same time, which I think is so special and so important.
[369] If everybody could be like you, I think the world would be such a great place.
[370] I really inspire what you do.
[371] That's very sweet.
[372] Thank you so much for coming on this show.
[373] I really appreciate you.
[374] I thank you so much for being a guest here.
[375] Thank you.
[376] Oh, you're so welcome.
[377] You're so welcome.
[378] You have a great day.
[379] You too.
