[1] It's Wednesday, November 29th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] The truce between Israel and Hamas is set to end today, though negotiations to extend the pause a bit longer continue.
[3] Officials involved in the negotiations told NBC that the hope is an extension of two days.
[4] Israel's military is looking to validate the claim made by Hamas that a 10 -month -old hostage and his four -year -old brother have been killed.
[5] The terrorist group, which has been known to exaggerate claims, says that three hostages were killed in a bombing by Israel.
[6] The Israel Defense Forces estimates that 1 ,200 people were killed on the October 7th Hamas attack, and around 160 people are still being held hostage by Hamas.
[7] The U .S. Department of Education says it's opened an investigation into Harvard University regarding the numerous claims of anti -Semitism on campus.
[8] This comes on the heels of the department announcing several investigations at other colleges, universities across the U .S. According to the Boston Globe, the Harvard investigation comes in response to a complaint that claimed the school discriminated against Jewish and Israeli students when it failed to respond to harassment incidents last month.
[9] The Department of Education confirmed the investigation, but said it couldn't discuss details since it's still ongoing.
[10] Here's Education Secretary Miguel Cardona.
[11] It's an expectation that our college campuses are safe for our students and that we're doing everything in our power to protect students.
[12] and protect them for the most basic right, the right to learn on our school campuses.
[13] Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer gave a major address this morning, warning of grave repercussions if Americans don't denounce anti -Semitism.
[14] To us, the Jewish people, the rise of anti -Semitism is a crisis, a five -alarm fire that must be extinguished.
[15] For so many other people of goodwill, it is merely a problem, a matter of concern.
[16] So today, I want to use my platform to explain why so many Jewish people see this problem as a crisis.
[17] At least one person has died after a U .S. military Osprey aircraft carrying five other people crashed off the coast of southern Japan this morning.
[18] Daily Wire reporter Zach Jewell has more.
[19] Regional Coast Guard officials told NBC news that the plan came down into the ocean near Yakushima, an island about 45 miles south from mainland Japan.
[20] Originally, the Coast Guard said six people were on board, but the figure was later updated to eight people.
[21] The Coast Guard confirmed that one man was recovered from the water and was, quote, unconscious and not breathing.
[22] The unnamed crew member was pronounced dead after being given CPR.
[23] There were no other details immediately available about the status of the aircraft or the other people on board, but search and rescue operations are underway.
[24] The brother of former U .S. Marine Paul Whelan says Paul was attacked in a Russian prison where he is serving time on espionage charges, which he denies.
[25] Whelan was allegedly punched in the face during a workshop when he asked another inmate to move out of his way.
[26] According to Wayland's brother, Dave, the other prisoner who was new, broke Paul's glasses and attempted to hit him a second time before other prisoners intervened to stop the conflict.
[27] Dave Whelan says he believes his brother was a target because he was an American, an anti -American sentiment was not uncommon among the other prisoners.
[28] President Joe Biden is taking aim at Colorado Representative Lauren Bobert as he prepares to visit her district and talk up his economic accomplishments.
[29] The White House said that Biden will tour a wind tower manufacturer in Pueblo that recently announced an expansion and claims that the expansion is a direct result of the Inflation Reduction Act.
[30] The White House also said that MAGA Republicans like Bobert continue to undermine their constituents by blocking the president's economic agenda.
[31] At a campaign event Tuesday night, Biden named Bobert specifically, criticizing her and other Republicans who voted against legislation like the bipartisan infrastructure law.
[32] C .S. Wind is Congresswoman, Lauren Bobert, you know, that very quiet Republican lady.
[33] It's in her district, who, along with every other Republican, voted against this bill.
[34] And it's making all this possible.
[35] And she railed against his passage, but that's okay.
[36] She's welcome it now.
[37] Bobert hit back at the White House and the president saying in a statement that families in her district are being crushed by so -called Bidonomics.
[38] She argued that the Inflation Reduction Act has cost taxpayers billions of dollars and called on Biden to help her with passing the Pueblo Jobs Act that she introduced in April.
