[12] George Carl is an old -time friend of this show, and I will tell you before we start this, that he has fought and won against throat cancer and continues to fight through whatever the difficulties of speech are caused by that throat cancer.

[13] But George Carl is tonight doing a Hoopers for Harris event where he's getting involved with politics, and I wanted to welcome in our old friend back into the fold to talk.

[14] talk about what he's doing tonight.

[24] One of the most outspoken coaches in the history of the NBA sixth on the all -time NBA wins list.

[25] Hall of Fame coach, always willing to speak his mind.

[26] And on Wednesday night at 8 p .m. Eastern, he's hosting a Zoom event, a big one.

[27] He's calling it Hoopers for Harris.

[28] George, you are following the Steve Kerr trend, the Popovich trend of all of a sudden getting into politics with your big mouth.

[29] What are you doing?

[30] I've always been a fairly progressive mind and thicker.

[31] I haven't been as vocal as Steve.

[32] I'm like a lot of people.

[33] There's something about this election that seems to be different, seems to be more important.

[34] And, you know, I'm a lot like the world.

[35] right now.

[36] I'm kind of fed up with politicians.

[37] But I think right now we've got to make the right choice.

[38] And going back to Trump is not my answer.

[39] My answer is to move on, evolve, and try to get some new ideas in there.

[40] Well, what are you doing with this, though?

[41] Why are you doing it?

[42] Explain to me the movement as you feel it.

[43] I think my family feels it.

[44] I just think some of the policies have to be changed, abortion, civil rights, whatever you want to talk about.

[45] We have a lot of struggles going on that needs more clarity than more leadership.

[46] I don't want to go back to the Trump leadership of bullying and lying and shipping and spinning.

[47] And I think why we're doing is, I mean, we all know that it's probably to raise some money along the way.

[48] But I think it's more to arouse the middle class, the middle, you know, moving towards the middle from a standpoint of political makes a lot of sense to me. We got the crazies and we got the conservatives.

[49] I don't think those two should be leading us.

[50] I think the middle should lead us a little more.

[56] Okay, so what do we have to do to get you to actively make sure that it doesn't happen again?

[57] Because I don't trust you.

[58] I think you're going to agree to it, and then somebody's going to ask you a question about Mello, and you're going to fall into the trap.

[59] You can't resist it.

[60] How do we make this official that you're not going to feud with Mello anymore publicly?

[61] Tell the people not to ask the question.

[62] Well, no, but that doesn't, that's not you, stop.

[63] They're going to ask it, George.

[64] That's not you taking the high road because you know how much people love this stuff.

[65] Carmelo was a polarizing star.

[66] You're six on the all -time win list.

[67] You always say what you think, and so therefore it becomes about what a selfish player, Carmelo was.

[68] I'll think about announcing it somewhere for you, man. Wow.

[69] Okay, so that'll be a part of Hoopersfor -Harris .org, and our audience needs to go there to make sure to hold George to his word that he announced.

[72] I'm going to take the high road because we need to be unified at a time of division.

[73] What a great message for the rest of the country.

[74] Because if George could bury the hatchet, if Carmelo can bury the hatchet, we all could bury the hatchet.

[75] That is correct.

[76] George, when you look at being sixth on the all -time win list, do you have one victory that for you?

[77] And this is a difficult question, obviously.

[78] But do you have one victory that stands out above any of the others and all of the others?

[79] The Dan's Kevin and the Western Conference Finals.

[80] We get us to the NBA finals against Utah.

[81] It was an incredible game.

[82] It was a very defensive -minded game.

[83] It was stopped in the Malone going against Camp and Payton.

[84] And it came down to make the free throws in the last minute.

[85] Sean May 2.

[86] Barra Malone missed two.

[87] It was one of the best theories I've ever coached in.

[88] I love that game and that series.

[89] The one opportunity to get the NBA finals, that was probably a game I'd call on my past.

[90] On the opposite end, is there one that's any worse than you losing as a one seed with Kemp and Peyton in a five -game series, and you wouldn't have lost, I don't think, if it had been a seven -game series?

[91] Yeah, I think that's the one, the most miserable loss I've ever had.

[92] I had trouble getting over it all summer long, and I can't deny.

[93] I live in Denver's, but it comes up all the time.

[94] George, how the hell is Sean Kemp not in the Hall of Fame?

[95] That's a good question.

[96] I think some of the players in Seattle, not only Sean, but, I mean, Deadless Krip was the great player, and then they didn't get a lot of accolade.

[97] I always thought that Seattle, Connor, was on the West Coast, and we didn't get a lot more.

[98] We didn't get the East Coast detention that we probably deserve, but he's a dynamist that Sean deserves him, and he's better in a lot.

[99] lot of players that are into Hall of Fame.

[100] I don't know, maybe towards the end of his career where he's faded quickly, might be the reason, but I agree with you.

[101] I think he should be in the Hall of Fame.

[102] Does George Carl ever dare to say publicly, that guy doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame?

[103] What the hell is he doing in there?

[104] Or even privately.

[105] Do you hear a Hall of Fame announcement and are like, come on, the College and Pro Basketball Hall of Fame has to be more discerning than that?

[106] Probably not.

[107] I think it's probably, I would like to see some guys like a 16th and coaches get into the Hall of Fame.

[108] I think some role players like Robert Hoery should get into the Hall of Fame.

[109] Big shot, Bob.

[110] I mean, the intangibles for the game of basketball are really, really important, but they don't get the spotlight very much.

[111] And the little things win championships.

[112] There are guys like Bruce Bowen, Nate McMillan, guys who are blue guys that help you win a championship.

[113] A Hall of Fame of Little Things.

[114] I like that.

[115] I do, too.

[118] What is the littlest thing that you would put in this Little Things Hall of Fame that is needed for basketball success, Carl?

[119] You can only put one of the characteristics that you regard as a little thing in the Hall of Fame.

[120] What is your first ballot Little Thing Hall of Famer?

[121] I would say locker room leadership.

[122] And who would you regard as the one in your career who exemplified it the most?

[123] He's getting in the Hall of Famous here, Troncy Billups.

[132] With the sport today, George, when I honestly can't believe, like I'm stupefied as we talk here, that Carmelo and Dwayne Wade are now on podcasts talking about what their career was while LeBron still plays and while LeBron still scores 25 points a game.

[133] If you would answer for us, the question that Stugats is always dying to ask anybody and then yell at them when they give the wrong answer, when you put LeBron James and Michael George, next to each other.

[134] Would George Carl ever dare to say that LeBron is better?

[135] I have dared to say it's better, but I can never get there.

[136] But, I mean, what LeBron is doing today is amazing.

[137] And I kind of come back to saying that LeBron might be the best, the most talented player ever to play in the NBA.

[138] but I still think Michael's the best player ever to play in the NBA.

[139] George, what does that look like?

[140] You're trying to get there.

[141] He's daring to and then he backs off.

[142] Like he wants to do it and then he keeps getting scared and backing away from the cliff.

[143] He's a brave man, but then he gets scared and he, that's it, right?

[144] Is that how you dare to do it, but then never do it?

[145] Two different generation of basketball.

[146] LeBron deserves the 21st century and Michael deserves the 20th century.

[147] But Michael deserves history.

[148] That's where I'm going to go.

[149] Who is your favorite player to watch right now, George?

[150] Jean Moran.

[152] That was quick, and he didn't play all of last year.

[153] Did you find the Celtics championship run satisfying to you?

[154] What did you think of them dominating the sport from beginning to end?

[155] Anybody that's coaching the NBA a long time.

[156] Two teams they don't like are the Lakers and the Celtics.

[157] But I want to tell you, I really thought the Celtics are their championship.

[158] They had the most talented team all year long.

[159] and in many ways they've dominated the NBA.

[160] And now the NBA has that.

[161] That's an enemy.

[162] They know who they got to shoot at.

[163] Boston's not going to go away.

[164] And I mean, it's going to be a hell of a year coming up.

[165] Are you of the belief that Wemba Nama is going to be winning all the championships in three years?

[166] I am not.

[167] I still like my man, Yoke is here in Denver more than like Wemma.

[168] But I think he'll wear his championship.

[169] Are you of the belief that Yokic has no precedent as a player and that you would be willing to already put him top five all time as a basketball player?

[170] I think he's top ten.

[171] I don't know about top five.

[172] Give him time.
