Morning Wire XX
[0] I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor -in -Chief John Bickley.
[1] It's Friday, August 23rd, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] Presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. has suspended his presidential campaign.
[3] In his announcement, he blamed Democrats for disenfranchising his millions of voters.
[4] He said the Democratic Party he grew up with would not be recognizable to his father and uncles.
[5] As you know, I left that party in October because it had departed so dramatically from the core values that I grew up with.
[6] It had become the party of war, censorship, corruption, big pharma, big tech, big ag, and big money.
[7] The DNC and its media organs engineered a surge of popularity for Vice President Harris based upon, oh, nothing, no policies, no interviews, no debates, only smoke and mirrors.
[8] and balloons in a highly -produced Chicago circus.
[9] There, in Chicago, a string of Democratic speakers mentioned Donald Trump 147 times just on the first day.
[10] Who needs a policy when you have Trump to hate?
[11] These are the principal causes that persuaded me to leave the Democratic Party and run as an independent.
[12] And now, to throw my support of President Trump, the causes were of free speech, a war in Ukraine, and the war on our children.
[13] Trump will hold a rally in Arizona this evening.
[14] Fed Chairman Jerome Powell signaled that a rate cut is coming soon.
[15] Powell was speaking at the annual Jackson Hole Economic Summit.
[16] His remarks, boosted Wall Street's hopes, and the Dow jumped 400 points.
[17] The Fed is expected to lower rates as soon as its next meeting in September.
[18] Powell pointed to weaknesses in the labor market for his decision.
[19] Just this week, the Biden -Harris administration revised the job numbers down by more than 800 ,000.
[20] The time has come for policy to adjust.
[21] The direction of travel is clear, and the timing and pace of rate cuts will depend on incoming data, the evolving outlook, and the balance of risks.
[22] We will do everything we can to support a strong labor market as we make further progress toward price stability.
[23] With an appropriate dialing back of policy restraint, There is good reason to think that the economy will get back to 2 % inflation while maintaining a strong labor market.
[24] Rumors that Beyoncé or Taylor Swift would perform at the Democratic National Convention turned out to be unfounded.
[25] Daily Wire reporter Amanda Presta Giacomo has the details.
[26] Organizers of the event hinted that a surprise VIP guest would be taking the stage on the final night in Chicago.
[27] White House political director Emily Ruiz posted a honeybee emoji on her social media on Thursday, which caused an online frenzy.
[28] Beyonce fans call themselves the beehive.
[29] Additionally, TMZ reported that they had confirmed Beyonce's performance.
[30] However, a spokesperson for Beyonce told the Hollywood reporter that the singer was never scheduled to appear.
[31] So in the end, it was Kamala Harris, who was the DNC's special guest.
[32] Former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswami was mobbed by anti -Israel protesters outside of the DNC in Chicago.
[33] Daily Wire reporter Cassie Akiva suggested Ramaswami join her at the protest, where he was directly confronted.
[34] We don't want you here.
[35] You're not welcome here.
[36] Well, the good news is we're America, and so we actually get to all express ourselves.
[37] Really?
[38] You get to express being a racist?
[39] You get to express being a racist Zionist pig?
[40] Is that what you get to express?
[41] I'm from America.
[42] You want to express that?
[43] Racist go, ho!
[44] Racist go, ho!
[45] Racist go, ho!
[46] After the chaos, Akiva spoke to Ramoswamy exclusively about being chased down by pro -Palestinians.
[47] Right now, you're outside the DNC, If you just came from somewhere else, tell us what happened.
[48] Yes, so that was outside of the protests outside the DNC.
[49] It was pretty wild.
[50] But I wanted to, first of all, show up because I believe in practicing what I preach.
[51] I believe in free speech, whether or not you agree with me, whether or not you like me, you have the right to speak your mind as long as it's peaceful.
[52] One of my favorite exchanges was, first of all, buying with U .S. dollars, although they accept Venmo as well, some of this communist literature from this guy.
[53] Why do you think that there were protesters outside of the DNC, but not the RNC?
[54] That's a good question.
[55] I think that the left in part is based on chaos.
[56] And I don't mean that in a negative way.
[57] I think conservatives tend to order their universe based on order, and liberals and the far left tends to order their view on disorder.
[58] Now, at one point, there is a guy who stopped you, and you tried to have a real conversation with him, and then they started calling you racist.
[59] Can you talk about that?
[60] Right, right.
[61] It was interesting.
[62] The racist charge was just, it just wasn't the right insult for him to level.
[63] I think he could have done better than that.
[64] I do care about people, the well -being and plight of people everywhere in the world, including in Gaza.
[65] but we can't have this conversation ignoring the reality of the event that precipitated it, which was, of course, an attack on Israel's sovereignty and its own people.
[66] And so I was hoping that would actually at least open up interesting dialogue.
[67] There are nuanced issues around this whole question, and we ought to be able to have that conversation.
[68] Then I started getting called racist.
[69] The Supreme Court gave the Republican National Committee a partial election integrity win.
[70] The court granted a request from the RNC to make Arizona require proof of citizenship when registering to vote.
[71] the justices ruled to allow one of three provisions of the state's election integrity law to be enforced.
[72] Officials say more than 40 ,000 people have registered to vote in federal elections in Arizona without providing proof of citizenship.
[73] Joe Biden beat Donald Trump in the state by just over 10 ,000 votes in 2020.
[74] Orange Chair Michael Watley celebrated the ruling, saying, quote, while Democrats have worked to undermine basic election safeguards and make it easier for non -citizens to vote, We have fought tooth and nail to preserve citizenship requirements, see the law enforced, and secure our elections.
[75] A yacht sank off the coast of Sicily, early Monday morning, leaving six dead and one still missing.
[76] Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has the details.
[77] A water sprout, which is a kind of tornado, swept through Sicily's northern coast on Monday, and it capsized and sunk the luxury vessel.
[78] The yacht was anchored near Porticello and broke apart in the storm, leaving debris scattered along the coast.
[79] Survivors clung to life rafts until rescued by boats nearby.
[80] Eight people were hospitalized, including a child whose mother described holding her infant daughter above her head to keep the child from drowning.
[81] Of the 22 people on board when the tragedy took place, 15 escaped and 6 are confirmed dead.
[82] One person is still missing while rescue teams continue to search.
[83] The USS Abraham Lincoln was deployed to the Middle East this week to bolster the U .S. military presence in the region as tensions there continue to rise.
[84] Daily Wire reporter Tim Rice explains why.
[85] The USS Abraham Lincoln arrived in the Middle East on Wednesday, joined by guided missile destroyers.
[86] The carrier, equipped with F -35 fighter jets, bolsters U .S. naval presence in the region alongside the USS Theodore Roosevelt, which arrived in July.
[87] A guided missile submarine, the USS Georgia, has also been ordered to the region.
[88] These deployments come amid heightened tensions as Hezbollah and Iran threaten retaliation against Israel.
[89] The Pentagon is preparing to support Israel and to address potential escalation in the region.
