[232] We don't care if we're playing FBS one game.
[233] We're going to have helmet comms.
[234] And that, for that reason is why I think North Dakota State stays inside that night and a half.
[235] If you're listening right now and you're like, wait a second, did my Spotify glitch or something?
[236] No. Mike was just talking about Colorado for the entirety of those 24 minutes of songs.

[251] He played closing time on the guitar.
[252] Man, he learned it on the fly.
[253] He didn't even know how to play it.

[257] We all sang the chorus.
[258] What happened with the John O 'Rood?
[259] You know, there's cracks, man. And sometimes shit falls through cracks.
[260] It's just like the Grammys where it's like there's a certain deadline that even if it's a few months before there's actually a previous calendar window.
[261] Jeremy, I appreciate you.
[262] I appreciate you.
[263] But that one made the window.
[264] What was a Donald Root song?

[267] Can we play the, it's a song about the 2001 Mariners?

[269] How pissed our streeter and Yetty going to be when Taylor just absolutely.
[270] Well, you know what?
[271] Billy's going to win.
[272] Lewis is just informed me that we have closing time.
[273] Can we just go roll that real quick while Chris looks for old root?
[274] Of course Lewis has that one.
[275] This room won't be open till your brothers or sisters come.
[276] I had to read the lyrics.
[277] So gather up the jackets, move into the exits.

[325] Uh -oh.
[326] He doesn't want to be bothered anymore.
[327] Now it's getting tense because he didn't need that as a result.
[328] He needs something that happens.
[329] You can see it, Mother Effing out of it.
[330] Can we bother?
[331] Are we bothering you right now?
[332] Turn on your microphone, Greg.
[333] My microphone's on.
[334] Stugats.
[335] Paint the scene.
[336] The paint the scene is I've got to go to work.
[337] Good night.
[338] This is the Dan Lebatar show with the Stugats.
[339] We're here with Zach Seeler, an uncommonly strong man, strong human being.
[340] You, in your locker room, are there a lot of people with a great deal more strength than you have?
[341] I like to pride myself on answering that to no, but there is.
[342] There's a lot of guys out there that, man, they can put some weights up.
[343] One thing I've learned over the years is, yes, being strong is huge, but getting your direct techniques and elements on the field help a lot too.
[344] Your job seems awful.
[345] I think it's the worst.
[346] It seems like the worst position to play.
[347] Is there a worse position to play than yours in terms of what the physical demands of it are?
[348] Every position has its ups and downs.
[349] I mean, the DBs and receivers, those guys take some huge hits.
[350] A lot of our stuff is just constant low impact or constant impact every play.
[351] And it takes a beating.
[352] But, you know, I'll tell you what, if I feel young again, we got Clias Campbell in the room, 17 years in the NFL.
[353] That's why you feel young.
[354] That's why you feel young.
[355] It's incredible to see him out there doing what he does every day at that age.
[356] I mean, he's still showing up every day at practice.
[357] He's out there.
[358] He doesn't want to miss a beat, and it's awesome.
[359] and so it's been really exciting and fun to have him around i am curious what the ups are you mentioned your position having ups and downs like what are the ups of being a defensive tackle man i'll tell you there's nothing three years 38 million that's you know it's it's you know it's that passion for the game and working with the guys next to you um and i know other positions have that two o lines obviously they usually are all very tight together but you know i mean obviously everyone knows about mind of wilkins bond last year we're we're worried about you have you friend or what's going on?
[360] Do you have any friends?
[361] No, it's been awesome.
[362] Deshawn has been great.
[363] Like I said, Clayas Campbell, him coming in, has been incredible.
[364] It's going to learn from him and work with those two has been awesome.
[365] We got some young guys, Brandon Peely, coming up that's been here for last year or two.
[366] And so it's been really good to build those bonds and then being able to play off each other.
[367] So that's one of the cool parts of the defensive line is you kind of learn the guy next to you.
[368] Jaylon Phillips and Chubb on the edge and then inside too.
[369] So, hey, I look over.
[370] Oh, dang.
[371] This is probably one of those places he might take a shot.
[372] I can cover them up and playing off each other.
[373] And it's a good feeling being out there and seeing guys make place.
[374] Nice.
[375] You were living in a van.
[376] And if I told you when you were sleeping.
[377] It wasn't a van.
[378] It wasn't a van.
[379] It was right next the river.
[380] RV.
[381] It was right next to the river.
[382] Rivers' house.
[383] That was doing a joke down by the river.
[384] If I told you when you're living in the RV, my apologies.
[385] Like one night right before you're going to bed.
[386] Hey, one day you're going to sign a contract for $40 million.
[387] You would have told me what?
[388] I mean, I'll tell you what, it's been a blessing.
[389] And, you know, I've always had those thoughts in my head where I know where I'm the best.
[390] That what I do, I want to make sure I prove it every day.
[391] And that's how I got here.
[392] I mean, I was told every day that I wasn't going to be able to be here from not being able to play at D2, to even see the field there, to not be able to play in the NFL, to not have what it takes.
[393] And so it's just one of those things that I always believe to myself.
[394] I mean, I really don't think you can do something if you don't think in your own heart that you can do it yourself first.
[395] If you don't ever think that, why would anyone else think that?
[396] Where along the path would you say you had the greatest doubt?
[397] Because there were plenty of times that you could have doubted.
[398] Honestly, I think it was the first time getting cut in Baltimore.
[399] Because when I got to cut the second time, I came down here, and then I was just like, you know what, I've been to this path before?
[400] Let's just take my shot and see what happens.
[401] But that first time kind of struck, you know, last day of camp, you're walking out, and there's the tunnel of scouts and staff, and they kind of just pluck you out one by one.
[402] and get cut and then you kind of don't know what's going to happen so that was my first time going through that so um that was probably the most um the low point for me like thing is this am i really able to do this when you take that home and you're you take that to your wife she's as crushed as you are for you right oh yeah because you're a little bit broken she was actually uh she was down here um and uh so she was already down here the first time she was i was with her actually but the second time i got cut i called her she was out actually at um our place down here in sebring um in florida got cut on my hand i don't know what's going to happen i could be anywhere in the country if i if i'm lucky enough to get picked up and we might have some talks with some guys out west and you're kind of playing that game of your agent where you might go how to prepare um and then i got that call the next day hey miami picked you up like you got to be kidding me i'm two hours from her we kind of already had some kind of been down here before so it was pretty cool it was uh The best of the worst, if that makes sense.
[403] Man, you're very likable.
[404] No, I appreciate it, yes.
[405] How do you make yourself mean on Sundays?
[406] Because I feel like if I was a center, I'd be like, hey, man, I'd ever get caught, like, being friendly with a center?
[407] And you're like, wait, I got to snap out of this.
[408] I got a bad guy's got to add in.
[409] You know, honestly, and I think that's how my part of my game is, is I don't ever get too, like.
[410] Invested emotionally?
[411] I'm very invested emotionally.
[412] I'm not, yeah.
[413] But, like, too much.
[414] Did you see him in Wilkins?
[415] Yeah, I just thought, man, like, he doesn't like.
[416] Everyone's got a different level where they've reached their peak.
[417] Some guys got to be, don't talk to me, don't look at me, I'm locked in right here.
[418] Some guys are out there having fun, laugh and joking, whatever.
[419] And that's kind of how I've been.
[420] And that's how honestly me and Wilkins were like that last year, is kind of going out there and tell them to take it lighthearted.
[421] And obviously, it's when there's times that are serious, like, in a tough spot, it's different.
[422] But like, for me, that's my prime where I was playing, where I play my best balls when I'm like that.
[423] Just out there having fun, really.
[424] We get paid a lot to play a kids game.
[425] We're very blessed to be able to do that.
[426] Where do you imagine, honestly, if you can answer this question, that you'll miss Wilkins more as a friend or how much easier he made your job?
[427] Because he was next to you and he commanded a great deal of attention.
[428] Not that you don't, but he also demands a great deal of attention.
[429] You know, I've had a great time this year, growing as a player on the field, not having him there.
[430] You know, he was first round pick.
[431] Everyone kind of saw him as that.
[432] So me to take over that role has been a great blessing in my eyes, I think.
[433] Having a guy that Clay has come in and him and I've been able to work off each other has been awesome.
[434] For me, it's the off -the -field stuff, him and I, and that's where we still stay in contact.
[435] So, like, he's still there.
[436] I mean, it's been a great, I'm super happy for him, and they'll be excited to see him later this year.
[437] It was nice to see it chronicled on hard knocks.
[438] It was unusual to see two guys who were that clearly close, their families are that clearly close.
[439] and you seem to love each other, just flatly love each other.
[440] Would you say so?
[441] Absolutely.
[442] Yeah, I know he's a great guy.
[443] I mean, I couldn't say enough good things about him.
[444] My wife and him always joke around.
[445] I think they play pickup basketball a couple times at our house because my wife played basketball.
[446] That's amazing.
[447] I think she got him one time.
[448] It was after he broke his hand, so she had a little upper hand, but he always think he needs a rematch.
[449] But, yeah.
[450] The reputation that the dolphins have had, even before you were born, is they're going to collapse late.
[451] The last couple of years, there have been injuries that have explained that don't have much of anything to do with mental toughness.
[452] It's just physical bodies breaking down.
[453] But what is it that you would say is the reason that this season has more expectations than any of the previous ones that when you think about the dolphins that you would say it's going to be different this year?
[454] Man, I'll tell you what.
[455] It's been super exciting coming in this year.
[456] Going through OTA is the team and then now camp is, and we're trying to take the science behind the game and behind everything that's going on with your, the yardage, the speeds, and like how many, how much stress you're putting on your bodies and trying to make sure we tailor that to make it to where we can be at peak efficiency come December and January.
[457] But sometimes science can get a little, yeah, we just put our hand in the dirt.
[458] I know.
[459] I couldn't agree more.
[460] That's what I'm talking about.
[461] Oh, yeah.
[462] But when it comes to those soft tissue injuries, always, you know this.
[463] Always.
[464] You're right.
[465] Put your head in there.
[466] Enough science.
[467] You're right.
[468] I was an engineer at some point.
[469] I was an engineer in college.
[470] There you go.
[471] So I love the science behind things.
[472] Do you ever hear McDaniel talking and you're like, we get it.
[473] You're zany.
[474] No?
[475] No. Not too much.
[476] It's your boss?
[477] Enough with the science, though.
[478] Your job is to be able to take apart a refrigerator and throw it at the quarter.
[479] Of course.
[480] Who could throw a refrigerator furthest on the team?
[481] You know, if I had to say somebody's Deshaunhand.
[482] Yeah.
[483] Really?
[484] That's what I was going to be an answer to that.
[485] Absolutely right.
[486] So if we had a refrigerator throwing competition, you're of the belief that he would win, absolutely.
[487] Silver medal?
[488] Silver medal for you?
[489] Yeah, yeah.
[490] I got the leverage, you know?
[491] Yeah, yeah.
[492] Would you be the, so you would be the silver medalist there?
[493] There's not somebody, you're saying you would beat Callais in a refrigerator throwing.
[494] You might want to take that back.
[495] Let's put that on the scroll.
[496] Take it back.
[497] I take it back.
[498] Yeah, I care about you, man. Bring it to the locker room and get back to us next one.
[499] I mean, there.
[500] As no slight, when I look at physically Kaleas Campbell, I look at somebody whose hands, now your hands are not small, but he's just physically built to do exactly what it is that he's doing.
[501] Yeah.
[502] Agreed.
[503] Damn, be careful.
[504] I know where you're headed, okay?
[505] Just like, be careful.
[506] He's a big man. You know what's funny is because obviously Clayus is new to the team and some people who aren't super, like, nitty -gritty into football.
[507] They just know Clay is as big as an amazing career.
[508] Rahim, his wife.
[509] They had a mic'd up with Clayas last week, I think it was.
[510] And she goes, her name's Dev.
[511] And she goes, hey, Rahim, she goes, is Zach a small human?
[512] Because there was a shot of the mic'd up, and I'm sitting there like this talking to Calais.
[513] And it's just, he's just a, he's right, he is built for football, and he has maxed out.
[514] What a voice.
[515] You are 6 '6 and 300 pounds, man. I know.
[516] I know.
[517] Isn't that crazy?
[518] Lepatar just called you small.
[519] I think he did.
[520] I mean, Callias, I think everyone, everyone feels physically smaller.
[521] It's running this team.
[522] That's what we've learned, yes.
[523] The eating of people your size, when you've got a cheat day, like if you had to impress us, like if you and him were having an eating competition, oh, it's over.
[524] How would you go about burying him?
[525] How baked am I?
[526] I'm just kidding.
[527] No, no, that's a legit question.
[528] Yeah, that's an important thing.
[529] I don't need that.
[530] No. I tell you what, so we got some favorite spots down here, but I know we, my wife and I spot after game days, there's an Irish spot down.
[531] then there's anthony's runway 484 that is there one of our newest favorite spots man they're they redid it's nice now oh my gosh yeah that's awesome um so you have to try flanigans huh no i haven't oh you got to get the flanagan's flat though i know you know mike white always told me about that yeah rib rolls that's it that's all you got to know rib rolls all right yeah but how much can you crush like what like if you're going after i'm going rib eyes potatoes mac and cheese all the whole nine yikes how many baked potatoes could you eat in one sitting if it was just baked potatoes?
[532] Just baked potatoes.
[533] I mean, do I get some sides and toppings with it?
[534] Fully loaded for sure, bro.
[535] Loaded to three.
[536] Three.
[537] So after a victory, after you've won and you're allowed, you're allowed, because of the discipline of the week, you're actually not allowed to eat this way all of the time.
[538] But after, in a celebratory meal, you said ribbyes plural?
[539] No, no, no, no, no, no. I don't want to be too slow.
[540] He's talking about a tomahawk riboy, but they got 16, 24, 20s.
[541] You know, because the bone in, you know, kind of messed up the weight.
[542] sometimes, eating him rare when we do.
[543] Absolutely.
[544] How many plates are coming to the table?
[545] How many things are...
[546] You've got to be three or four, right?
[547] I don't know.
[548] You're the one.
[549] Thank you for your time.
[550] We appreciate all the work that you've done here and there.
[551] Everybody's very excited about the season's there.
[552] Thank you, sir.

[554] Low man wins, right?

[556] No, no. My view of George has never gone through that with me. Leave this room with more knowledge than you came in.

[570] Now's a good time to remember where the story of tequila started.
[571] In 1795, the first tequila distillery was opened by the Cuervo family.
[572] And 229 years later, Cuervo is still going strong.
[573] Family owned from the start, same family, same land.
[574] Now's a good time to enjoy Cuervo.
