[26] Now is a good time to remember where the story of tequila started.
[27] In 1795, the first tequila distillery was opened by the Quervo family.
[28] And 229 years later, Quervo is still going strong.
[29] Family owned from the start.

[31] Massive news from NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
[32] Oh.
[33] A Pro Bowl quarterback has just been released.
[34] Wow.
[35] A recent.
[36] Pro Bowler has been released.
[37] Define recent.
[38] Last couple years.
[39] Hmm.
[40] I think this dude might have been a pro bowler two years ago.
[41] Hmm.
[42] Shockwaves throughout the NFL.
[43] As the Browns are releasing former Pro Bowl quarterback, very much.
[44] Tyler Huntley.
[45] Tyler Huntley.
[46] Snoop.
[47] Thank you, Jess.
[48] Wow, Jess.
[49] I mean, my God.
[50] What a pull.
[51] Appreciate that.
[52] There were some people like, did they actually do it?
[53] What DeShahn?
[54] Restructure his contract.
[55] They restructured his contract.
[56] 36 million.
[57] Which is weird.
[58] Like, everyone's like, oh, wow.
[59] Yeah, worst contract in sports.
[60] Clear up $62 million.
[61] Congratulations.
[62] I'm guaranteeing fully in making that contract totally uncutable, untradable.
[63] I don't know.
[64] I'm actually feeling pretty good right now because we just got done with the Zach Seeler interview.
[65] And I don't feel like I looked that awkward in this one.
[66] It was my least awkward, I think, of all of them.
[67] You were just genuinely nervous around Tua.
[68] Lockward.
[69] I didn't think Tua was the most awkward one, by the way.
[70] What did you think?
[71] The most awkward one was Rahim Moster.
[72] Did you see River Craycraft?
[73] I saw Robert Craycraft.
[74] But basically, I've been stuck in the middle, you could say, all week.
[75] Why did I?
[76] Because this camera isn't hitting me right.
[77] And I tend to play with a draw string on my pants.
[78] Two is to the left of me. God, I've had that song all week.
[79] I'm like, I've got to play it eventually.
[80] God, that's a pocket for Yeti's voice, man. We're some talented song.
[81] 2025.
[82] Suey nominee.
[83] John Olerud.
[84] To obsessed and busy with the making of stuff that The Sueys actually give you an opportunity to reflect and say, we've got some really talented individuals here.
[85] And so really great stuff on the music front.
[86] Yeah.
[87] And Taylor.
[88] But Taylor probably will win.
[89] I think Sports Whisper should win.
[90] And it gave me the idea.
[91] Over the last, in the upcoming weekend, our show is going to begin celebrating its 20th anniversary.
[92] The Jan Lovit show with Stugats began September 1st, 2000.
[93] Really?
[94] So we won't be able to be on the air on September 1st because it happens over the weekend.
[95] But we begin.
[96] We'll do alive.
[97] Yeah.
[98] We begin, I guess, our anniversary year.
[99] 24 -hour marathon?
[100] Never doing that again.
[101] Ever.
[102] Never, ever doing that again.
[103] Never doing that again.
[104] Don't bring that over again.
[105] But maybe we cover that over the course of the next year and celebrate that stuff.
[106] But I am feeling a bit nostalgic.
[107] And for a show that's constantly like day in, day out, doing its best to evolve and change.
[108] with the Times, reinvented self, you kind of, over the course of years, because we are a legacy show, you kind of want to shy away from nostalgia, because...
[109] Why not?
[110] Nistalgia, wait a second.
[111] I'm still doing stuff that resonates today, and I don't want to be known as a nostalgia act, but nostalgia is a big business right now.
[112] Everybody's feed on social media is all Oasis memes right now.
[113] Play the hits.
[114] Everyone is feeling nostalgic.
[115] Creed is having a very successful tour.
[116] Lincoln Park's back together.
[117] going to be reuniting.
[118] And between you and me, I actually think that they can spend this into a win.
[119] Our pet's heads are falling off.
[120] Nostalgia.
[121] There's a big business in nostalgia.
[122] So most people don't know that this isn't actually our 20th anniversary.
[123] No, it's our 21st.
[124] We miss that entire thing, but we realize there's big business in pretending to reunite and have a nostalgic aspect to your show.
[125] COVID year doesn't count.
[126] That's why it's 20.
[127] COVID year doesn't count.
[128] Well, maybe it does.
[129] Well, we'll get into COVID.
[130] We're going to get really nostalgic, I think, over the course of the next year.
[131] And it's not.
[132] It's not going to be like one singular day of celebration.
[133] And then we're back to normal the next day?
[134] It's not how anniversaries work.
[135] We got a lot of big things playing.
[136] So tune in next week to find out everything that we have playing a lot of big exciting house.
[137] Can you give us even a hint, a whiff of one of the things we can be expecting in this year -long celebration?
[138] I think, look, the way that people consume our show has changed over the course of years.
[139] We've been on an AM radio dial.
[140] We've gone national.
[141] We've been on all sorts of TV networks.
[142] And I think now we're still kind of, in many ways, still a pirate ship, despite her wonderful partnership with Draft Kings, we're on YouTube.
[143] People often say, hey, where do I find you?
[144] And usually the answer is pretty simple, but we were so part of their routine.
[145] Maybe some people lost track or, you guys are too political, or, you know, all the things that's out there about us.
[146] I think that over the course of this year, if you maybe departed from our show, we're going to give you the good feels inside and remind you, of why you fell in love with our show in the first place.
[147] And we have really ambitious ideas on how to exactly go about that way.
[148] Some of that for your content to enjoy and some of that for theater of mind stuff and some of that big tangible things that you can reach out and feel and touch and potentially talk to.
[149] So it's going to be a very exciting thing and you can find out more about what we plan to do in the upcoming year next week.
[150] As Mike was describing kind of the great celebrations that we I'm coming up.
[151] Master Tisfatio just walks in and starts dapping people up.
[152] And looking at him, I think of one thing.
[153] I think of Thursday Thunder.
[154] Let's go.
[155] No, that's where you're going.
[156] Yes, that's where I'm going.
[157] Oh, this is interesting.
[158] No one makes me think of gambling more than Master.
[159] I thought you were going to talk about the 24 -hour marathon again.
[160] More than Mike?
[161] I make you think of gambling more than Mike?
[162] Yes, you know why?
[163] Because when I walked in this morning, you were talking about betting on the Paralympics.
[164] That was true.
[165] I didn't do it, but we're still looking for over -underers on French.
[166] gold medals.
[167] We haven't found it yet.
[168] That's a nice surprise.
[169] Thursday Thunder is brought to you by Draft Kings.
[170] Stay tuned because you'll hear about Draft Kings and all it has to offer throughout the show.
[171] Draft Kings, the crown is yours.
[172] Tony, what did Juju cook up?
[173] All right, Juju has been on a heater.
[174] Two of three, the last like six weeks in a row, which is very impressive because getting three legs in a parlay is very difficult.
[175] So we're going to start here in the W. Minnesota Links at the Dallas Wings.
[176] And I feel bad because I've got a Dallas Wings person right here next to me. Go weeks, baby.
[177] Juju's got the Minnesota links in the first leg of the parlay.
[178] Juju, come on.
[179] The piece of collier MVP.
[180] Going to the second leg, Clemson versus Georgia at home, big time matchup in week one of the college football season.
[181] Georgia minus 13 and a half.
[182] Juju's going to lay the points there, 13 and a half.
[183] I think this is technically at home and that it's in their home state, but is this technically a neutral segment?
[184] It's at Mercedes -Benz, yeah.
[185] and the last leg of the parlay.
[186] Say it.
[187] Don't say it.
[188] Say it.
[189] I don't want to say it.
[190] But I'm going to say it.
[191] Cain's money line.
[192] Yeah!
[193] Rat poison!
[194] C -A -A -E -S -K!
[195] Rat poison!
[196] With a lot of you.
[197] That is your Thursday Thunder again.
[198] Miami Hurricanes Money Line, Georgia Bulldogs, minus 13 and a half, and the Minnesota Lynx Money Line.
[199] Jujugati is good for two of three.
[200] Hopefully this one, three of three, but maybe the two of three will include the Miami Hurricanes.
[201] I'll take one of three.
[202] The wings just beat the ais.
[203] I don't know how I feel about that one.
[204] Juj's on the W. I don't know.
[205] He's pretty hot on.
[206] Who are the Lings playing tonight?
[207] Wings.
[208] The Wings are like one of the bottom.
[209] We are, but it's okay.
[210] We got Satsu Sabley bag.
[211] That's true.
[212] She's playing really well.
[213] We're not born.
[214] Same with Rike.
[215] I'm a bigger Rike fan.
[216] Rike stands over here.
[217] We bonded over Riqu.
[218] Two of the biggest.
[219] Many of the world.
[220] Some could say.
[221] Enrique?
[222] Enrique.
[223] Who's Enrique?
[224] Santos.
[225] Iglesias?
[226] Master Tisfacion from Guelazzo.
[227] I just came here to work out.
[228] I could see that because you wore your worst clothing ever.
[229] I know I did.
[230] I got my Real Madrid jersey and my bag.
[231] That was going to change.
[232] Why are you wearing that, man?
[233] We still don't know boys, baby.
[234] Come on now.
[235] It's a T -shirt.
[236] For people listening to the podcast, it's not like, it's just a T -Shift.
[237] It's a cowboy shirt.
[238] You're also wearing a T -shirt.
[239] By the way, the gym here's amazing.
[240] Oh, my God.
[241] That's why Master came to work with me today.
[242] He's like, you got a gym over there?
[243] I'm like, yeah, Master's gotten really fit.
[244] Welcome at 5 .30.
[245] Let's go.
[246] I lost 35 pounds.
[247] Already.
[248] Wow.
[249] Yeah, just today.
[250] Today.
[251] That's how good this gym is here at the gym.
[252] Master, I have a question for you.
[253] You come to Miami a lot and you're obviously, you go to a lot of Miami games.
[254] Are Miamiians the root as people in the country?
[255] That's a good question.
[256] Rude in what way?
[257] Because New Yorkers are pretty rude.
[258] Thank you.
[259] Driving, talking.
[260] Yes.
[261] considering that me and Mike left the gym yesterday and we left the hurricane there was this random accident there we saw two accidents actually this week I've been here crazy accident that's not mother nature being rude but that's not the city the drivers are terrible here okay um rude is kind they're pretentious very pretentious that's a better thank you I don't know what that word means but I don't like you I'm gonna take this disrespect you yeah yeah you're welcome you're welcome the wear that you so you're going to the game this weekend I'm going to the game this weekend.
[262] I'm going to Cleveland next weekend for Cowboys Brown season opener.
[263] And then week two, because you need to tighten up, baby.
[264] Let's go Rand Carthon.
[265] Big Believing of Titans.
[266] Week two, I'm going to their home opener, Jets Titans.
[267] I'm all football, baby.
[268] Soccer football, American football, European football, you name it.
[269] I do awful.
[270] I mean, you guys, you guys, you guys.
[271] You spent, like, two months in Ibiza and you decided when I come back, I'm going to go to Gainesville and Cleveland.
[272] I did.
[273] The first trip I took.
[274] It's probably like me and LeBron James, who we've ever done this before.
[275] Go from Abiza one weekend and the next weekend and go to Cleveland.
[276] You went there for SummerSlam?
[277] Yeah, SummerSlam.
[278] It was great.
[279] It was so nice that you were like, I like this place.
[280] I got to go back inside of a month.
[281] I've been to Cleveland once before, and it was for when I was working at the Washington Post, covering Browns training camp for, actually, it was 2016.
[282] The Milan of the Midwest.
[283] The Milan of the Midwest, as they say.
[284] Now I've been there twice in the last two months.
[285] I said that when I was a Browns fan.
[286] The Marble Room?
[287] They got a great steakhouse over there.
[288] I don't know if you enjoyed the Marble Room.
[289] It's kind of avoiding red meat these days, you know?
[290] Really?
[291] Yeah.
[292] What are this guy, man?
[293] The Boars Head, I don't know.
[294] Yeah, he's great for you.
[295] I saw an article about how people went to the Boreshead factory where this, like, Listeria outbreak came from.
[296] Hysteria?
[297] Yes, it's going to make you not want to ever eat deli meat again.
[298] Yeah, I've read some of the details on that thing, like fugs and rodents and...
[299] Oh, it was a Tapper, a Taffer dream episode.
[300] Shut it down.
[301] You're going to freaking kill somebody!
[302] But I will say this, there was a Bluebell Listeria outbreak that happened as well, and I still you bluebell.
[303] We have a special treat coming up here for the...
[304] the listening audience.
[305] Footgirls have reunited.
[306] I'm very excited for Fort Girls.
[307] You're repurposing the suey -nominated song, right?
[308] Stay tuned and find out.
[309] It's on Foot Girls.
[310] What's it called?
[311] Jen, CFP.
[312] With that tone, huh?
[313] And we have a sponsor this year.
[314] Cheez -It's.
[315] Let's go.
[316] I woke up feeling cheesy, coach.
[317] Cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese.
[318] Cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese.
[319] Cheese, cheese, cheese, for the love of God, cheese!

[362] Don Lebertard.
[363] Mr. Mr. Shirt, if I may say for a second.
[364] Miami, they were simulating the snap count the entire game, and they were clapping at the line of scrimmage.
[365] And the only thing I want to see clapping are them cheeks on Mrs. Met.
[366] In my face, Mike's shirt.
[367] All right, so that's one thing.
[368] Stugats.
[369] They're a bunch of cheaters, Dan.
[370] And you know who should be cheating?
[371] Mrs. Met on Mr. Met.
[372] And he can watch if he wants.
[373] This is the Dan Levitar show with the Stugats.
[374] Welcome back to our first episode of Jen CFB of this college football season.
[375] Lucy, Week Zero has already come and gone and now Week 1 is here.
[376] We have so much stuff to talk about.
[377] Where do you want to start?
[378] I think I want to start outside of the Week Zero games.
[379] I think us, us College Football Geniuses, we knew what was going to happen.
[380] We knew Georgia Tech was going to win that game.
[381] and we at least knew they were going to cover.
[382] We have to talk about the Conner Stallions documentary because I wasted my evening.
[383] I wasted my night.
[384] An hour and 27 minutes, I'll never get back.
[385] Was there anything that you learn from the untold?
[386] Okay.
[387] I'm kind of with you on that one.
[388] I don't think much more was added to the story that we didn't already know.
[389] Any key takeaways, other than you feel like you wasted your time.
[390] It made me, like, really mad.
[391] It just made me angry.
[392] One, we should not be doing documentaries on things that happened within the last year.
[393] I think even five years is too close.
[394] Like, this should have been something that we saw 10 years from now after Michigan's national title eventually gets stripped or whatever.
[395] But, like, the whole thing was just Connor Stallions being like, I didn't do it.
[396] But if I did, this is how.
[397] And this is how I was trained.
[398] But I didn't do it.
[399] I felt like a lot of it felt like it was met for people that either don't watch college football at.
[400] all or was for Michigan fans, but even Michigan fans, I think are just sick of hearing from Conor Stallions.
[401] Like, they want to pretend like it didn't happen.
[402] And they're like, hey, we won the national championship.
[403] We don't really care about this guy.
[404] Like, we've, we've all moved on.
[405] But there was, like, some sort of, like, key things in the saga that were just completely unaddressed.
[406] They, like, barely spent any time on Jim Harbaugh or on any of the various, like, Michigan coaches who were let go last season during all of this.
[407] It was very strange.
[408] And I'm with you.
[409] I'm not exactly sure what it was for.
[410] The thing I was.
[411] The thing I was mad that they left out is like it was over and I was like where was the vacuum talk?
[412] Why didn't I address the vacuums?
[413] I mean if you're, I'm here for the vacuums.
[414] If you're going to give me Conor Stallions, let me read the manifesto.
[415] There was also, Taylor just said in my ear, Bro, Ohio.
[416] That was awesome.
[417] That was great.
[418] I was really great.
[419] I felt like like an hour through, they did like a montage of Conor Stallion's memes and I'm like, did we have to reach like a runtime quota?
[420] Like, why is all of this in here?
[421] It was so unnecessary.
[422] long like it could have been 20 minutes and got the same point across but it was all just like hey here's what people said about it and conor stallions here's his entire backstory that no one asked for that no one cares about yeah all right well i think we're on the same page with this one then um like you said week zero come and gone the new playoff system is upon us i think i counted like 17 times that it was explained during saturday's week zero broadcast so get used to that there's be more of this in week one from ESPN as they try to like catch fans, get fans up to speed on how the 12 team playoff is going to work this year.
[423] But we have now arrived finally at this moment of conference realignment where we have Cal for some reason in the ACC.
[424] We have SMU playing their first game as an ACC member.
[425] We have come and gone from Big Ten media days where Deshaun Foster gave one of the most awkward introductory press conferences in the history of the Big Ten.
[426] He belongs there.
[427] And it was magical.
[428] And now, Lucy, we're finally here.
[429] We're finally starting the season.
[430] It's weird.
[431] Like, I'm curious how you have felt, like, watching, like, there weren't, outside of SMU, like, this weekend, there weren't any of, like, the new teams in action.
[432] It's still something that, like, as people were asking me about this season and my conference championship predictions and whatever, like, my brain still hasn't been able to fully process.
[433] Like, oh, this team is here now and this is how many teams are going to play, blah, blah, blah.
[434] Like, my brain hasn't accepted it, and I don't think it ever will.
[435] Yeah, it's going to take some time to get used to.
[436] Like, it's very weird to be like, yeah, Oregon's going to get that Big Ten auto bid in the playoff.
[437] That just feels wrong.
[438] It just feels so wrong.
[439] Yeah, so I'm with you on that.
[440] And especially because we were getting the new playoff the same year we're getting Texas and Oklahoma moving to the SEC and the complete like disillusion of the PAC 12 completely.
[441] Now we have the PAC two and they're joining the Mountain West.
[442] So, like, there's just so much change for this college football season that I feel like it's going to be some new stuff is exciting and fun.
[443] But it can also be a little confusing, I think.
[444] Like, it will definitely take some getting used to for fans.
[445] No, I agree too.
[446] And then you add in the aspect of, like, we have lost three out of the four playoff teams from last year.
[447] Their head coach isn't returning.
[448] Like, that's crazy.
[449] So there's all this, like, outside stuff.
[450] There's no Nick Sabin.
[451] Like, no, Nick Sabin is on college game day now.
[452] What do you mean?
[453] Right.
[454] What do you mean?
[455] He should be busy.
[456] doing something else.
[457] Go recruit.
[458] Stop talking and go recruit.
[459] Taylor, before we move on, I heard that we have a sponsor for this segment.
[460] Yep.
[461] Recapping what happened the previous week is presented by Cheez -It, this college football season.
[462] We're feeling the cheesiest with Cheez -It.
[463] Cheese, cheese, cheese.
[464] Those are some of my favorite commercials.
[465] The Giant Wheel of Cheese, Chanting Cheese at their coach.
[466] I love it.
[467] Thank you, Cheez -It.
[468] We're happy to be here.
[469] We're big fans of the Cheez -It Bowl.
[470] Before we move on to, like, what's going to go on this upcoming weekend in college football, Lucy, do you have any lingering week zero thoughts?
[471] Florida State, Georgia Tech, obviously was like the marquee game of the weekend in Dublin.
[472] Like, where are we at now?
[473] I think my big takeaway is I didn't really expect, I think anyone who looked at what Florida State lost last year and what they brought in at the quarterback position kind of was understanding that this was going to be a major drop off because last year was sort of like they're like all eggs in that basket.
[474] They lost so many players.
[475] like everyone was a senior, you lost that much, you bring in DJ, like there was going to be an adjustment phase.
[476] What that showed me is, wow, the ACC is wide open this year.
[477] Like, it doesn't really feel like there's a clear favorite because Clemson you can put in the mix, but Clemson hasn't been the same Clemson over the last few years.
[478] Florida State looked terrible.
[479] Georgia Tech looked great.
[480] Like, there's so much going on with the ACC, and I kind of want nothing to do with any of it.
[481] Yeah, the ACC definitely is going to be interesting.
[482] I know Miami is the popular pick right now to win the ACC, and I'm not going to lie, I know Lucy are making a face.
[483] We're all everyone in the studio right now.
[484] Everyone in the studio is like, oh God, oh God, I'm scared.
[485] Mike Ryan's listening.
[486] I'm not making a face.
[487] Billy Gill's doing the U -down over Taylor's head right now.
[488] But it is, it is an interesting conference because you're right.
[489] This Georgia Tech beating Florida State was something that, you know, a little surprising.
[490] But like you said, given some of the huge changes to Florida State's roster, not that big of a surprise, but it does kind of crack the door open now where, you know, it's week one, already a top 10 team has lost.
[491] And we'll see where the ACC goes from here.
[492] DJ Oiyang Goli finished the first yard with negative 0 .1 air yards per attempt passing.
[493] That bad?
[494] Doesn't give you a lot of hope for a vertical passing game to come out of Florida State in the future.
[495] And he's been a player that, I mean, I honestly felt a little bad for how.
[496] much blame he was getting for Florida State's performance in that game.
[497] And I thought, like, where is this defensive line that everyone's been talking about being the best in the country?
[498] They didn't record a single sack.
[499] Georgia Tech's offensive line played great and were just outstanding in Dublin.
[500] So, yeah, Brent Keenow, the Georgia Tech head coach, has gone 5 '0 versus ranked ACC teams, beating Carolina twice, Taylor.
[501] I know you didn't have to look that stat up.
[502] This was the first time meme where it's like everybody was surprised Georgia Tech's going.
[503] beating a top 10 team.
[504] I'm like, no, this is something I experience every year.
[505] Carolina is going to be a top 10 team, and Georgia Tech is going to come out of nowhere.
[506] Yeah, pretty much.
[507] So shout out to Georgia Tech.
[508] Huge win for them in Week Zero.
[509] There was also, like you mentioned, SMU played.
[510] They beat Nevada after having a big comeback in the fourth quarter.
[511] We've all found out together as a country that Bronco Mendon Hall is the new head coach at New Mexico.
[512] I honestly did not know that.
[513] No clue.
[514] yeah no idea and they were they were 12 and a half point dogs to an fcs team and they lost to montana state but they did cover so you know good teams win great teams cover etc etc so yeah that was week zero and now we move on to week one in college football lucy i know you're going to a college football game this weekend and i know you're so excited about it but before we get to saturday we've got thursday games we've got friday games and we've got some big nooners on saturday so let's start with thursday what are you looking forward to you on Thursday night.
[515] Taylor put on our little rundown, North Carolina at Minnesota, I want to just make it super clear I'm not looking forward to that, not even a little bit, not even slightly interested, kind of mad it's on this list.
[516] I'm looking forward to North Dakota State at Colorado because everyone learns the hard way you don't schedule North Dakota State.
[517] I think that Matt Ruhle even said it, like when he got the job in Nebraska, he went up to the AD and was like, don't you ever schedule a Dakota.
[518] Don't ever do it.
[519] We all learn the hard way.
[520] and Colorado has all this hype coming into this season like they did last year.
[521] You have the weird stuff with Dion and his pressers that has gotten kind of old to me. I don't really care anymore.
[522] But you have all of this culminated to a matchup with a FCS team that is better than at least 50 % of all the FBS teams.
[523] So this is like not an easy game by any means, and it wouldn't shock me even a little bit if North Dakota State won.
[524] I think Colorado will win, but I do think it's the perfect game for hot takes on Friday and for the rest of the weekend because if Colorado wins big in this game, it's like, wow, like Colorado, look at them starting their season with a really tough opponent and beating them and proving, like, they are head and shoulders above this, like, you know, dominant FCS team, even though North Dakota State's head coach left last year for a job at USC, and now they have a new head coach who was formerly, I think, the offensive coordinator there, so new coach, but returning quarterback, who was pretty good last year.
[525] So then the flip side is like if Colorado somehow loses or if it's like a close game, It's going to be like, oh, my God, like, all the, all of the Dion haters and every, every Colorado person that, like, just has so much animosity towards them is just going to be just, oh, my God, feasting.
[526] So it's a fun Thursday night game, I think.
[527] I'm with you on North Carolina at Minnesota.
[528] Taylor, if you want to give us, like, a 30 -second scouting report, I'll let you do it just because it's, like, a Power 4 versus Power 4 game.
[529] But don't get used to that.
[530] Carolina has one of the best running backs in the country, Amaran Hampton.
[531] Amarion rushed for over 1 ,500 yards last season.
[532] Carolina replaces their defensive coordinator, Gene Chiswick.
[533] They bring in...
[534] Why, what happened?
[535] A disaster.
[536] To put it plainly, it was a disaster last year.
[537] They replaced their defensive coordinator.
[538] They bring in Jeff Collins from Georgia Tech, who was Georgia Tech's head coach.
[539] So maybe there's something there.
[540] Carolina's starting quarterback is Max Johnson, who formerly of LSU, formerly of Texas A &M, stop.
[541] Hasn't really worked out at any of his stop so far.
[542] But Carolina, third times a charm.
[543] Third times a charm.
[544] And we're not asking him to go out and beat Alabama.
[545] You're not asking him to beat Drake May. Yes, exactly.
[546] Just be you.
[547] And last year I said there's, there's a certain excitement to not knowing what you have at the quarterback position.
[548] But as we're getting closer to this game, I'm like, I would much rather have Sam Howard Drake May. Oh, man. Okay, well, there you go.
[549] Lucy, take us to Friday night I think there's 21 games on Thursday only six games on Friday and not really as many super noteworthy matchups but what are you going to be watching on Friday night this is always the best college football like schedule of the year because you're not sharing anything with the NFL so it's like you have like Friday Saturday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday Monday which is awesome Friday night TCU Stanford is kind of the big one I think TCU has like everyone sort of forgot about them.
[550] After you lose a national championship game by 60 points and then go out and lose your season opener the next year, TCU won, what, five games last year?
[551] There's like a weird sort of like, kind of like comeback energy with them.
[552] I don't know how great they're going to be.
[553] This is a weirdo big 12 ACC matchup now.
[554] I don't think Stanford is really going to see any improvement.
[555] They've lost a lot of their best players.
[556] So like, I guess that's the game I'm looking at, but truly the crown jewel of the weekend is Saturday.
[557] Yeah.
[558] Okay.
[559] So let's start with.
[560] the noon ABC game on Saturday, number 14 Clemson at number one Georgia.
[561] This game's at Mercedes -Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
[562] And Georgia has not lost a regular season game since 2020.
[563] That is like crazy.
[564] They were, like, I know we talked about Georgia being left out of the playoff last year, but like the national conversation about the playoff was all about Florida State getting left out when Georgia was a incredibly dominant team in 2023.
[565] So who are you picking in this game?
[566] game.
[567] It's a 14 -point spread in favor of Georgia.
[568] And, like, what are you looking for in this one?
[569] I can tell you right now, I'm picking the dogs in every single game this season.
[570] I don't care who they're playing.
[571] I'm picking the dogs.
[572] They are far and away the most talented team in college football.
[573] Carson Beck is a high -sman candidate.
[574] I know that Clemson is kind of like a sneaky pick for everyone right now, especially like kind of how we talked earlier, the ACC feels wide open.
[575] So people are sort of buying into Clemson again.
[576] And I do think this is an improved Clemson team.
[577] However, Georgia is so much better than everybody else.
[578] They are so much more talented than everybody else.
[579] Georgia is the best team in college football.
[580] They are number one for a reason.
[581] I will never bet against the dogs.
[582] The last game that you were at was the Georgia Florida State game.
[583] I believe that was 63 to 3 was the final score of the Orange Bowl.
[584] Yeah, I was there the whole time.
[585] Yeah, right.
[586] Definitely didn't leave early.
[587] All 66 points, I saw him.
[588] Yeah, I'm with you.
[589] Clemson has, I think they're going to have a really good defense this year.
[590] I I think they're ranked top 10 in F -plus, but their offense has been sort of the issue there.
[591] Cade Klubnick is back.
[592] If you're just looking on paper, I think George is definitely the more talented team.
[593] Davosweeney's still not doing the portal, still being a little stubborn about that.
[594] We'll see if it comes back to bite them.
[595] I think Clemson will do well this year, and I think they'll do well in the ACC, but I agree with you.
[596] I think George is probably the easy choice there.
[597] At the same time, over on Fox, you've got Penn State, the eighth -ranked team in the AP poll at West Virginia.
[598] This is a tough road game to open with for Penn State.
[599] Is this really sneaky?
[600] I think what people, Penn State opened the season with West Virginia last year as well, I believe.
[601] And that game, Penn State eventually covered, but it was really close until the fourth quarter.
[602] Like, it took kind of like a final stretch sort of pull away for Penn State to look as dominant in the scoreboard as they thought they were going to actually look on the game.
[603] This game is sneaky.
[604] West Virginia is much better than they have been in the last two years.
[605] Neil Brown was on the hot seat last season, ended up going eight and five.
[606] And Morgantown is not a joke.
[607] Those fans are absolutely bad crazy.
[608] That is a super difficult environment.
[609] I wish it were a night game.
[610] I think Penn State wins, but I would not be surprised if West Virginia covers.
[611] That would be a fun night game.
[612] You're right.
[613] Yeah, West Virginia is going to have, I think, a pretty good run game.
[614] They've got some really solid running backs coming back as well as their quarterback, Garrett Green, who had 13 rushing touchdowns in 2023, which I think was the most among FBS quarterbacks.
[615] I will double check that.
[616] No, I won't.
[617] Someone else will do it and they'll tell me if I'm wrong.
[618] I'm with you.
[619] I think Penn State's going to be really good.
[620] They're also like a trendy college football playoff pick.
[621] I think if you had to look outside of like the Oregon's and the Ohio states of the Big Ten, Penn State's like right up there with them in terms of talent.
[622] But, you know, obviously the James Franklin memes exist for a reason.
[623] They struggled against big in big games.
[624] So we'll see about that.
[625] But after that game ends, Lucy, Miami at Florida.
[626] Miami ranked number 19 right now.
[627] A small favorite against Florida.
[628] Florida's got a just insane back half of their schedule.
[629] They're playing like every difficult team for their final six games.
[630] In Miami, again, in the ACC, has a really, really good roster, super talented team.
[631] They've got one of the best quarterbacks coming to Miami that was in the portal last year, Cam Ward from Washington State.
[632] Who are you picking in this game?
[633] I actually don't know who I'm picking in this game yet.
[634] So the thing with Florida is, for some reason, I watched a lot of Florida football last year.
[635] They are a, yeah, but the most accurate quarterback in the SEC.
[636] We all know this.
[637] He, so, like, Florida is an incredibly talented team.
[638] They're not dissimilar from Miami in that situation.
[639] But watching every Florida game last year was, like, physically painful because you would see most of their games.
[640] They were just as talented as their opponent.
[641] But just the basic of just, like, being a well -disciplined team, they just could not get down.
[642] Like, I believe it was the Florida State game where they were in it.
[643] and then literally just got so many penalties in a row that they took themselves out of that game.
[644] So Florida, I think, one, Billy Napier is on one of the hottest seats in college football.
[645] They need this win because, like you said, their schedule doesn't get any easier.
[646] Grahamertz is going to need to have a good team.
[647] They are good game.
[648] They lost their running back.
[649] I just, I don't know because if Florida has worked out those little details, I think they can absolutely beat Miami.
[650] But I truly don't know if they're going to do it.
[651] I think Graham Merch will be fine.
[652] This whole, this game is weird energy.
[653] Everything that happens in Gainesville is a little odd.
[654] I don't actually know who I'm picking.
[655] Jess, do you have a pick?
[656] I think Miami is going to win.
[657] I actually, I think Miami's biggest opponent is themselves.
[658] Like, I think they're actually going to be really good this year.
[659] So, yeah, I guess I have Miami in this one.
[660] And let's move on to the primetime game because Notre Dame is playing at Texas A &M.
[661] Lucy, you're going to be in College Station.
[662] Is this your first time going to Texas A &M for a football game?
[663] My first trip to College Station, I'm very, very excited.
[664] Wow, I'm so excited.
[665] excited for you.
[666] This is going to be super cool.
[667] So Mike Elko is the new head coach at Texas A &M, took over after Jimbo Fisher got fired and got one of the largest buyouts in the history of any sport for like $80 million.
[668] They were like, please leave.
[669] And Mike Elko was the head coach at Duke last year.
[670] Riley Leonard was the quarterback at Duke.
[671] Now Riley Leonard, the quarterback at Notre Dame.
[672] Mike Elko, the head coach at Texas A &M.
[673] So they're facing off against each other, which is pretty weird.
[674] A story for our times, the times of the portal.
[675] Crazy things.
[676] are happening.
[677] So I mean, look, I could talk about the Notre Dame side of this for like the next four hours and I'm not going to do that.
[678] So I'm just going to throw it to you.
[679] Tell me what you think about this game.
[680] I think Notre Dame is going to win this game.
[681] I think that there's just too much change happening with Texas A &M right now.
[682] I said it last year.
[683] I'll say it again.
[684] Mike Elko was the right hire for Texas A &M to make.
[685] If you look at what he did at Duke with literally a quarter of the talent of what he has at A &M, like I have no doubt that he will succeed in this world.
[686] but they're bringing in a new offensive coordinator.
[687] There's so much change.
[688] They have a lot of players leave the portal.
[689] A lot of players come in through the portal.
[690] Texas A &M will be an incredibly talented team, and I wouldn't be surprised if they win seven, eight games this year, like definitely improvement from the Jimbo area.
[691] But I think that Notre Dame as a school is just, as a team, they're too well -disciplined.
[692] They're too tough.
[693] And I think homefield advantage works for Texas A &M, but I just don't see them winning this game.
[694] I actually think it'll be pretty close.
[695] But I'm excited to see the Mike Elko, Colin Klein era at A &M.
[696] I think they're going in the right direction.
[697] Yeah, I mean, look, I think this game, I think Notre Dame will struggle in this game because it's an away game and because their offensive line is very young.
[698] And Notre Dame's offense needs, they need to like sort of prove themselves, right?
[699] Like, it's pretty much a brand new wide receiver room.
[700] You've got a lot of players coming in the portal.
[701] You've got a quarterback that hasn't taken a snap at Notre Dame before that was injured last year to end the season, has had, you know, surgery in the, in the off season.
[702] But Notre Dame's defense is really, really good.
[703] And so the flip side of that is, you know, Texas A &M's offense has to play against a really, really good Notre Dame defense.
[704] And, you know, some of the, one of the best defenders in college football.
[705] So I don't know.
[706] I kind of, my heart, my heart's telling me Texas A &M, so it just doesn't break.
[707] So it just, this is me, like, softening expectations for myself.
[708] I also like to pick against Notre Dame so that, like, I can, you know, just be like, oh, man, I didn't expect anything anyways.
[709] And then if they actually went, I'm like, wow, I totally knew that was going to happen.
[710] Okay.
[711] So moving on to no one wants to listen to me to talk about Notre Dame.
[712] So moving on to Sunday.
[713] I do.
[714] Don't let them tell you that.
[715] Oh, let's do a separate, like, we'll do a separate side episode just about Notre Dame and Iowa, just like for us.
[716] Actually, that would be fun.
[717] We should, Taylor, put that on the schedule.
[718] Okay, so there's another game on Sunday that is very funny because Lincoln Riley has tried to cancel this game, according to reports.
[719] He tried to call his agent that him and Brian Kelly share, Trace Armstrong, to try to get this game taken off the calendar.
[720] This is the USC LSU game on Sunday night on ABC in Las Vegas.
[721] So USC coming into the season, sort of in a similar place as LSU.
[722] Both of them had pretty crappy defenses last year.
[723] They're trying to get over that.
[724] Both of them lost their Heisman trophy winning quarterbacks to the NFL.
[725] So these are two teams that have very similar strengths and weaknesses going into this game.
[726] I kind of like LSU in this one.
[727] I think LSU should be pretty good this year.
[728] But who do you have?
[729] I have LSU in this one too.
[730] I think they are like slightly more talented than USC.
[731] USC did bring it a new defensive coordinator.
[732] They brought in UCLA's defensive coordinator, which is kind of like a weird fit.
[733] I just like, yeah, the whole vibe of USC and Lincoln Riley just feels like it's going to end really soon.
[734] I think that there's a lot of things factoring into USC this season, specifically they're moved to the Big Ten.
[735] I just don't think they're adjusted or prepared for anything that's about to head their way.
[736] I know that Caleb Williams is gone and Jane Daniels is gone.
[737] So, like, the whole thing is just odd.
[738] I don't expect this to be a game I'm going to enjoy as an Iowa fan, but I think that every other college football fan in the planet will enjoy this.
[739] I just think that LSU is slightly better, slightly more talented.
[740] And I think that we're going to see USC fall out of the rankings pretty soon and kind of stay there.
[741] They also have a super difficult schedule, too.
[742] Like, I don't know.
[743] The whole vibe from this game doesn't seem like anything that I would personally enjoy.
[744] But I'm taking LSU, and I believe the line is LSU is minus four and a half.
[745] LSU is favorite in this one And like, yeah, they should be They lost a ton of players in the draft Like they're obviously like replacing a lot of talent On the offensive side of the ball But also I think our like having to overcome slightly less bad struggles on the defensive side Like USC was in in the bad place last year With Alex Grinch And so yeah, like you said They hired a pretty decent defensive coordinator To come back and like try to fix things there So we'll see how they look I love picking week one games because it is really truly like, we saw USC's quarterback play in a bowl game and we were like, wow, that guy was really good.
[746] But like, who the hell knows?
[747] Like, we will see him in an actual game now.
[748] And not that the bowl games are, you know, they're my favorite things ever, but you know what I mean.
[749] Yeah, you're playing against a third of whatever team you're actually facing.
[750] So we'll learn a lot this weekend.
[751] And finally, I think we have time for this one.
[752] Monday night, there is also another game.
[753] You will see Florida State again, if you are a college football fan watching this game with Boston College coming to Tallahassee on Monday.
[754] Boston College's quarterback is really fun to watch.
[755] He's actually pretty cool, pretty dynamic.
[756] He can run fast.
[757] He's pretty awesome.
[758] But is this the rare must -win week -one game for Florida State, Lucy?
[759] It's absolutely a must -win.
[760] I saw a Florida State fan being tweeted like, I'll eat my own shit if we lose this game.
[761] So, yeah, it's a must -win for that specific guy alone.
[762] Like, you have to win this game.
[763] Yeah, you don't want to do that.
[764] I love a week one must win.
[765] Like, it's just so silly.
[766] But yeah, so Lucy, you're going to a bunch of games this year.
[767] You're going to Texas A &M this weekend.
[768] Do you have any sort of like, what should we expect from off -roading this year?
[769] What are you excited about?
[770] I'm excited for this whole thing.
[771] Ideally, the plan is to try to go to as many games that of places we didn't actually go to last year.
[772] So TechSanib is new.
[773] We are going to Iowa week, too.
[774] So that kind of went out the window.
[775] As you should.
