[0] I'm Daily Wire, Editor -in -Chief John Bickley, with Georgia Howe.

[1] It's Thursday, August 24th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.

[2] On Thursday, after the recording of this podcast, former President Donald J. Trump is expected to turn himself into authorities in Fulton County, Georgia.

[3] Last week, District Attorney Fannie Willis indicted Trump and 18 co -conspirators on 41 counts related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

[4] Throughout the day, throngs of Trump supporters were seen.

[5] lining the roads leading up to the Fulton County Jail, though police and security kept crowds a healthy distance from the building itself.

[6] Among the crowd was Georgia State Senator Colton Moore, who has called for a special session to potentially impeach Willis.

[7] My constituents do not want their hard -earned tax dollars being used to finance this rogue district attorney who is violating people's First Amendment rights.

[8] In response to the sweeping indictment, the House Judiciary Committee led by Chairman Jim George, Jordan launched a probe into Willis for any potential coordination with the Department of Justice.

[9] Jordan is demanding that Willis turn over all records on details of use of any federal funds or any communication with the DOJ or special counsel Jack Smith.

[10] The letter also suggests that the grand jury was tainted by politics, pointing to comments made by the foreman of the grand jury.

[11] What would your reaction be if the DA decides against bringing any charges after what you've seen?

[12] I will be sad if nothing happens.

[13] This was too much, too much of my time, too much of everyone's time for this to just be, oh, okay, we're good, bye.

[14] And if it was just a perjury charge or perjury charges, would that be acceptable to you?

[15] That's fine.

[16] I will be happy as long as something happens.

[17] An assessment by U .S. intelligence has found that the plane crash that presumably killed Russian mercenary boss, Yevgeny Pergogian, and nine others was caused by an intentional explosion.

[18] According to U .S. officials who spoke with the Associated Press under anonymity, this explosion followed a long line of other incidents in which Russian President Vladimir Putin has attempted to silence his critics.

[19] The anonymous officials did not reveal any information about what caused the explosion.

[20] The U .S. assessment came to light after Putin offered his condolences for those who died in the crash.

[21] He called progosion very talented, but said he made, quote, serious mistakes.

[22] The Department of Justice announced a lawsuit Thursday against SpaceX for allegedly discriminating against assailies and refugees in its hiring practices.

[23] The DOJ alleges that SpaceX violated the Immigration and Nationality Act by discouraging assailies and refugees from applying and refusing to hire them.

[24] The Justice Department claims SpaceX instead chose to hire U .S. citizens and legal residents.

[25] On Wednesday, the South Carolina Supreme Court upheld a state law banning.

[26] abortion after the detection of a fetal heartbeat in a four -one decision.

[27] Republican governor Henry McMaster signed the heartbeat bill into law in 2021.

[28] Earlier this year, the Supreme Court struck down a similar law, but now, after reversing course, the abortion restriction can take effect.

[29] Survivors of the Maui fire that swept through the town of Lahaina told the Associated Press that the only paved road out was barricaded by authorities as flames overcame the town.

[30] Daily Wire reporter Zach Jule has more.

[31] So far, 115 people have been confirmed dead while between 800 and 1 ,000 remain missing.

[32] Witnesses who survived the blaze said that traffic quickly backed up as residents attempted to flee to the south, but the road was blocked as a crew worked on down power lines.

[33] One family ignored the barricade and swerved past the cones placed in the road, making it safely to another town nearly an hour later.

[34] Maui Police Chief John Pellateer has denied these reports.

[35] We made sure that residents that wanted to leave could leave, and we made sure that emergency supplies that could get in, got in, and now you see that the roads are open just fine.

[36] Maui Police aren't the only authorities facing criticism.

[37] The Maui Emergency Management Agency, the Hawaii Commission on Water Resource Management, and Hawaiian Electric are all under scrutiny for different actions that critics say needlessly endangered citizens.

[39] Three people were arrested in Los Angeles on Tuesday when a group of LGBT activists clashed with a parental rights group.

[40] The parent group was protesting school policies to keep children's gender identities a secret from their parents.

[41] Daily Wire Culture Reporter Megan Basham has more.

[42] So the incident began when a small group of LGBT counter -protesters faced off with a rally of nearly 200 parental rights protesters, and they were there with the group Leave Our Kids Alone.

[43] Well, the Parental Rights Group was marching from City Hall to the Los Angeles Unified School District's Office, and when they arrived, the group of LGBT activists had gathered on the opposite side of the street.

[44] The Los Angeles Police Department set up skirmish lines at that point to separate the groups, but police eventually declared an unlawful assembly and ordered all of the protesters to leave the area.

[45] In fact, at one point, police attempted to push back the LGBT activists, and that led to these arrests.

[46] Three protesters were ultimately arrested.

[47] for failure to disperse, police said, and all three were jailed on $5 ,000 bond.

[48] All right, those are your drive -home updates this afternoon.
