Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard XX
[0] Welcome, welcome, welcome to F1 with DRS or a sample of F1 with DRS.
[1] This is a taste of an interview I did with my favorite Formula One driver, Daniel Ricardo, friend of the podcast, cutest smile in the history of motorsports, heartthrob across the globe.
[2] He's so wonderful.
[3] So I would love to play a little teaser for you on this armchair expert feed to entice you to search for the new podcast, which is available everywhere on Apple, on Stitcher, on IHeart Radio, and subscribe to that and follow so that you can hear our weekly episodes where we break down everything about Formula One.
[4] And this episode with Daniel Ricardo was such a gift, so grateful to him.
[5] It was so fun, and it's great to check in with him on this, his first year, not driving in Formula One in some, I don't know, 15, 20.
[6] years.
[7] So, fun conversation.
[8] I hope you enjoy it.
[9] And if you want to hear the full thing, again, please search F -1 with DRS.
[10] But it's spelled EFF -W -O -N.
[11] F -1, E -F -F -W -N with D -R -S.
[12] I also need to add that I am alone in the attic by myself.
[13] That was kind of porno music, but everyone hates the soundboard except for me, but no one's here to tell me not to use it.
[14] So I hope you enjoyed these sound effects and enjoy this wonderful interview with Daniel Ricardo.
[15] Again, search EFF, W -O -N with D -R -S, F -1 with D -R -S, subscribe, follow, like, do all the things we love you and miss you.
[16] But if this is a bad distraction, I can turn it off because it's probably going to be a distraction.
[17] Let me ask you, how good do you think you're going to be an interview where you're also watching TV?
[18] Let alone Supercross.
[19] Oh, my God, too, and you're shirtless.
[20] What could be more perfect?
[21] Hello, ladies.
[22] Well, by the way, I'm only doing this interview with you because there's a little bit of a commitment to you as a friend.
[23] I don't ever ask you about F1 in our real life.
[24] Or I'm trying to minimally.
[25] How am I dealing?
[26] No, no, you're good.
[27] But because I have a little bit of a code, oh, my God, by the way, the thing I put you through, I remember one race, I hit you up.
[28] I don't even know if you did good or bad.
[29] I just remember sending you a message on a race weekend.
[30] And then after sending and I had this whole spiral about how annoying it must be like to be at a race weekend, focus so hard on this thing, whatever other shit you're battling.
[31] And then you're fucking old man buddy in L .A. popping in with some two cents.
[32] And then I sent you the longest apology.
[33] And then your response was just it relieved everything because you were laughing so hard at the whole tailspin I had done over it.
[34] Yeah, yeah.
[35] It was it cracked me up.
[36] But like it's that sort of stops refreshing.
[37] And I think we've we touched on it.
[38] Yeah, yeah, an armchair.
[39] I think, yeah, it was on that.
[40] I was not sure if it was over that or in person, but yeah, we did.
[41] And when you're having a, I mean, a good weekend, of course, it's nice to get messages, but also like more of a difficult weekend competitive -wise.
[42] Like, it's nice just to have someone who still, yeah, just showing their love or checking in or cracking a joke.
[43] Like, it's totally fine.
[44] That's what I couldn't settle on whether, I mean, I just went personally.
[45] Like when I do, when I'm not doing good at something, my, dream is that nobody witnessed it.
[46] So I was like, I'm going to pretend I haven't seen the races that you didn't perform top notch in.
[47] And then I just caught the ones that you were great in.
[48] But anyways, I say all that to say like, this is now, I get to ask you a bunch of questions that I wouldn't in real life.
[49] So this whole thing is just a ploy for me to get you to talk about Formula One, which I try to avoid.
[50] You're very respectful.
[51] When we're riding dirt bikes, it's just dirt bikes.
[52] Oh, we have some fun on those dirt bikes, don't we?
[53] We got to give a shout out to Clay because he's got just the dream playground for us and so generous and has bikes waiting and it's everything I'm trying to build out in Australia on my farm and just have like you know as you get to Clay's and the bikes are lined up and it's just yep jump on whatever one and let's just go and I love that I'm trying to like hold him after because I'm thinking about when Blake went out one of the hills like Blake had fallen probably 14 times already he made it not even halfway up and you said something which crape me up like you got off one exit too soon or something and just the way you said it like we're supposedly supporting him and we're just riffing the absolute piss out of him so in general from the outside I'm seeing like you did that really cool video when you guys were down in Melbourne for the team for Red Bull I was caught between watching and think oh so cool he's driving on a bit and then another part of me is like I bet it's bumpy as a motherfucker driving through dirt in it and all that stuff.
[54] What was the driving experience like?
[55] I'm going to break something to you.
[56] It wasn't you.
[57] Not all of it.
[58] Wonderful, wonderful.
[59] It was a professional.
[60] Don't get me wrong.
[61] I mean, that was a proper extended trip and I just couldn't with schedule and even like simulator and stuff like that.
[62] So, yeah, for parts of it, it was like other Red Bull drivers.
[63] and athletes who were taking part.
[64] But I have to kind of say that because, like, people are like, oh, you're in Australia or are here and you didn't even hit us up.
[65] I'm like, oh, I wasn't always there.
[66] Right, right.
[67] But it was cool.
[68] I imagine that shoe was weeks and weeks.
[69] Yeah, yeah.
[70] Right?
[71] Yeah.
[72] It's not like you could have possibly have done all of it.
[73] Yeah.
[74] Okay, so that was.
[75] But I will say, like, as you mentioned just briefly, like, the way they, I mean, obviously it was, it did happen.
[76] And the way it was kind of all then put together, it was pretty.
[77] cool so going back to red bull now and being back in that family i'm reminded of how much cool shit they do uh the coolest all of the coolest shit right yeah and even you have an idea and you just share that idea within the family and something normally comes through with that like from that idea now what is your own personal tolerance for being a passenger in this shit like if they tried to send you up in the crazy airplane or the fucking loop de loop helicopter and what do you say when you're offered that The older I get, the less I say yes.
[78] Yeah, uh -huh.
[79] But I'm torn because I'm, in a way, the older I get, the more I'm, I want to say yes to things and experience things, especially if you have the privilege of being in a situation where you can experience something awesome, then I'm definitely trying to, even if I'm scared, shitless, I'm trying to encourage myself to say yes.
[80] but yeah so maybe in something that I don't understand as well say like a plane or whatever maybe I'll just be like close my eyes and like yeah this guy knows what he's doing but like a car me being a passenger in a car it's tough I just know too much in terms of like I'm not not yeah like I just I know too much okay to be scared to air our personal stuff I once drove you kind of far to Clay's house yes and I was I had a whole talk with myself on the way over.
[81] I'm like, you're going to drive very slow because he's going to be really afraid.
[82] You're going to try to show him what a good driver you are right now.
[83] And I was very, very well -behaved.
[84] On the way there, you were.
[85] Oh, was I not on the way home?
[86] Maybe I was just so tired.
[87] I forgot to, I lost my willpower.
[88] There was nothing at speed.
[89] There was like a little bit of smoke for the fans.
[90] Well, we did, we were next to another Hellcat on the highway, and that's just code.
[91] Yeah.
[92] Yeah.
[93] They would have alerted the Dodge community.
[94] if I hadn't done that, and they would have come taking the car for me. Well, there was something I want to say, whether it was on the way, they're on the way back.
[95] But I remember, even if you weren't going fast, there was maybe a way you took a corner, or it was how you were kind of holding the wheel.
[96] But I remember seeing something, and it gave me a lot more trust.
[97] I was like, if he does try to impress me, I think I'm okay with it.
[98] I thought you were going to complete opposite way.
[99] I thought I was about to hear like, yeah, there's one time that I was like, why is he holding the fucking wheel like that?
[100] He's going to break his wrist.
[101] No, I honestly do recall, like feeling more comfort.
[102] I hate being a passenger.
[103] I just hate it.
[104] And in fact, I've been offered to go in that Red Bull helicopter and stuff.
[105] And I'm like, I just, I can't.
[106] I'm too much of a control freak.
[107] Oh, but all right.
[108] This crosses my mind, too.
[109] And I'm not you.
[110] It's got to be 3x for you.
[111] Here would be my fear if I was you.
[112] I'm going to get in the helicopter with this dude.
[113] and he's going to be like, all right, well, I got to give him an extra crazy, right?
[114] Because he's nuts.
[115] Does that cross your mind?
[116] Yeah.
[117] Yeah, like the guy's, you know, whatever his fucking range is, he's going to go like 4 % out of it because you're there.
[118] That's where, yeah, I'm very, I try to be very honest and just tell him like, you don't, like, it's cool.
[119] You don't need to do too much.
[120] I'm a very scared person, believe it or not.
[121] I may do this sort of stuff, but trust me, I'm a bit of a horse.
[122] I hope you enjoyed that.
