[1] It's Monday, August 28th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] Tropical storm Adalia is barreling toward the Sunshine State and is expected to make landfall as a Category 3 hurricane after intensifying across the Gulf Coast.
[3] The Sarasota area all the way up to Tallahassee can expect strong winds, rain, and flooding, while the Tampa Bay area is expected to escape much of the brunt of the storm.
[4] Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has already declared a state of emergency for half the state with mandatory evacuations underway in numerous counties.
[5] Here's Governor DeSantis.
[6] We have a disaster fund in the state of Florida that we are able to dip into, to be able to help doing all this stuff.
[7] I mean, all this pre -staging, it doesn't happen for free.
[8] You've got to put resources behind it.
[9] You put resources behind it to prepare.
[10] Sometimes you may not need to use all these resources, but I would rather put money out be prepared and then not have to use it, then the opposite.
[11] With Hurricane Ian, when we rebuilt those bridges, we just paid for it.
[12] The state paid for it.
[13] I didn't wait for the federal government.
[14] I didn't wait for local government.
[15] We just took care of it.
[16] Also in Florida, a shooter who authorities say was racially motivated, opened fire on a dollar general in a predominantly black neighborhood over the weekend.

[18] The FBI has already launched a federal hate crime investigation into the shooting that killed three.
[19] At a vigil that DeSantis attended for the victims and their families, a Democratic official stressed the need for unity after Hecklers interrupted his remarks on Sunday.
[20] We're fin to put parties aside because it ain't about parties today.
[21] A bullet don't know a party.
[22] So don't get me started.
[23] Now, y 'all, y 'all just be quiet just a minute and let the governor say what he's going to say, and we're going to get this party started.
[24] In response to this tragedy, Governor DeSantis announced today in a war.
[25] of $100 ,000 to the families of the victims, as well as $1 million to nearby Edward Water University to strengthen campus security.
[26] U .S. District Judge Tanya Chutkin has announced a trial date of March 4th, 2024 in former President Trump's federal 2020 election case.
[27] That date is one day before Super Tuesday in the GOP primary.
[28] Chutkin heard arguments from the special counsel and Trump's attorneys on Monday, but said that neither side had suggested an appropriate.
[29] date.
[30] Federal prosecutors wanted to go to trial in January 2024, while Trump's team pushed for April 26.
[31] Kyle Rittenhouse, the then -teenager who shot and killed two left -wing protesters in self -defense in 2020, is being sued again, this time by the estate of the late Joseph Rosenbaum.
[32] Rosenbaum's estate is also suing the city of Kenosha, Wisconsin, local sheriff departments, Kenosha officials, and multiple counties for his death.
[33] The estate's attorneys claim that Kenosius police deputized 10 armed individuals, including Rittenhouse, and, quote, ratified their actions by letting them patrol the streets armed with deadly weapons to meet out justice as they saw fit.
[34] The now 20 -year -old Rittenhouse has faced a bevy of lawsuits since the incident.
[35] A bakery in San Francisco's Mission District is saying, do not come in if you're a cop.

[37] Reams, California, a local bakery, announced.
[38] they will be enforcing their right to refuse service to anyone.
[39] And in this case, anyone means people with guns.
[40] A screenshot shared by the San Francisco Police Association shows an email from a bakery executive saying the company's policy is to not serve anyone that is armed in a uniform.
[41] The police officer's union responded in a tweet after the bakery turned away an SFPD officer.
[42] It said, we're asking them to own their discriminatory policy and to put up a sign so we know not to spend money in your establishment on or off duty.
[43] A college student who was fatally shot Saturday in Columbia, South Carolina, is being remembered as loving and compassionate.
[44] 20 -year -old Nicholas Dinoffrio was found dead Saturday on the porch of a home police say he mistook for his own.
[45] Dinoffrio's parents say they had just helped their son move in nearby to begin what would have been his junior year.
[46] They described their son as having all of the traits you'd want in a son.
[47] Police say they were called for a report of a break -in at the residence, which was on the same block where to be.
[48] DeNofrio lived.
[49] Caught to the subject looking the door, 1075, we're fired also through the door on order the subjectless head.
[50] A preliminary investigation shows DeNafrio attempted to enter the wrong home when he was fatally shot.
[51] Neighbors are still shaken by the incident and worried about what it means for safety in the area.
[52] You think you're going to be safe sending your kid off and you're so excited sending your kid to school and then something like that happened.
[53] This is usually such a, you know, more welcoming, helpful neighborhood than that.
[54] Over the weekend in New Hampshire, long -time GOP activist Alex Talcott was fatally stabbed in his Durham home Saturday morning.
[55] No arrests have been made and police have ruled the killing a homicide.
[56] Police are trying to determine if the individual who stabbed Talcott was acting in self -defense.
[57] In a Daily Wire exclusive report, journalist Spencer Lindquist revealed that NASCAR is offering a paid diversity internship that excludes white applicants, a stipulation, a constitutional law.
[58] lawyer tells the Daily Wire is blatantly illegal.
[59] The race car giant's diversity internship program states that there are racial requirements that applicants must meet in order to be accepted.
