[12] One of my favorite things to do ever is this show.

[13] Annually, we do a show on giving because we teach you.

[14] If you live like no one else later, you can live and give like no one else.

[15] If you follow the things that we have taught you here for 30 plus years, you will follow a process that we call it starts with now you have to take care of the now first take care of your own household first or your worst than an unbeliever then once we get past taking care of now then we move on and we start taking care of you know the future then now then and then we say you know the future then we take care of family we want to take care of changing our family tree out past our future into the future.

[16] And then we move on and we take care of community in the world.

[17] And you start talking about people outside your family, outside your future, outside of the thing.

[18] And so as your money evolves, your vision for what to do with it should evolve.

[19] You should grow, shouldn't it?

[20] Absolutely.

[21] Dave, you talk a lot about the myths that people believe about wealthy people and rich people.

[22] And we say that, you know, if you're a stingy rich person, you know, that those exist.

[23] But there's a lot more that are philanthropists.

[24] That's what we call them when they're generous with their money.

[25] And we want to highlight some of those stories as well.

[26] That's the kind of stuff you can do when you have margin and you follow the baby steps.

[27] It's inspiring.

[28] Yeah.

[29] In today's world in a capitalistic economy, very few people attain wealth without having the character quality of generosity.

[30] Because when you're selfish versus selfless, you smell different.

[31] You have a stink about you.

[32] And nobody wants to do business with you.

[33] Nobody wants to elevate you.

[34] Nobody wants to promote you.

[35] No one, you're slimy.

[36] When people meet with you, they want to take a shower after they're done.

[37] If you're that person, it's very difficult to prosper in our current modern economy.

[38] Because everybody tells everybody it's called social media, right?

[39] And so, but if you're a generous person, you know, it's hard to deny generosity.

[40] It just is what it is.

[41] And it changes who you are.

[42] It changes whether you're smile.

[43] It is much more difficult to be depressed if you're generous.

[44] It is much more difficult to get divorced if you're generous.

[45] Very few people get divorced.

[46] They go, you know, that guy was just so generous.

[47] I couldn't take it.

[48] I just couldn't take it.

[49] My husband was completely, he was unbelievably generous.

[50] It just drove me nuts.

[51] That doesn't come up in divorce decrees, you know?

[52] Haven't seen that one.

[53] So generosity doesn't break much, but it fixes a lot of things.

[54] It might break the bank if you're out of control and you're dysfunctional with it, and you could do that.

[55] But generosity is what this shows about today.

[57] Mike, tell us your generosity story.

[63] How can we help?

[64] Well, you know, I was just a month or two ago.

[65] I was out of state at a restaurant, and I had never been there before, and our server was talking to us about how she had just gotten this job because she was trying to make extra money to pay off her debt.

[66] And her reason was because she had recently purchased Taylor Swift tickets and put them on her credit card.

[67] It was like a little over $700.

[68] She bought him as a gift for her partner, and she said they had a great time, but at the same time, she had these financial goals and stuff.

[69] So anyway, we've been fault, my wife and I've been following your plan for a while now, Dave.

[70] And so when I was here in her store, I started talking to her about how important I thought it was to get out of debt.

[71] And, you know, I encouraged her to do the same.

[72] She's like, yeah, I know.

[73] That's why I'm working here.

[74] So anyway, our bill ended up being like $42, but I ended up signing the tip for like exactly what she owed on her credit card, which she had shared with me was like $710.

[75] Cool.

[76] Wow.

[77] Yeah.

[78] You're more fun than a Tyler Swift concert, I'm just saying.

[79] Well, I mean, and I never, and I never, she didn't know.

[80] You know what I'm saying?

[81] So, like, I just signed the thing for like $752.

[82] I get in the car, and I guess my wife could tell, you know, because she's like totally.

[83] on board with this whole thing.

[84] And I guess I saw the look on my face because you paid her credit card off, didn't you?

[85] And I'm like, I did, babe.

[86] And she's like, that's so, so awesome.

[87] We never saw her again.

[88] I mean, I don't even live in that state.

[89] I checked, I didn't even know if it would work.

[90] You know, I checked my statement to see if you can give a tip like that.

[91] You can.

[92] You know, whatever.

[93] But, but yeah, it worked.

[94] So I was so super thrilled.

[95] And, you know, I was also with some other people at the table, and I didn't want them, you know, like when I was talking to her about all this, I think they were like, man, this is weird that Mike's getting into it with this server about our life and whatever.

[96] But, I mean, they have no idea what we did, and I don't care that they ever know.

[97] No, it's not their business.

[98] It's just all of America's business now.

[99] It's between you, the waitress and God and your wife.

[100] But yeah, there you go.

[101] Way to go, man. Why do you go?

[102] Isn't that fun?

[103] It is.

[104] And I'll tell you, we came from $500 ,000 of debt.

[105] And, yeah, so we are, so we make Taylor Swift tickets look smart.

[106] Wow.

[107] I know, man. Wow.

[108] We had a lot of stuff going on.

[109] And so we followed your plan, got to baby Step 7.

[110] So we dug out of half a million, and now we're just, you know, I'm just really excited about what God's doing in our lives.

[111] And I just want to be, I don't know, I want to follow that.

[112] And I'm excited to be a part of this team in the Ramsey scenario.

[113] Way to go, hero.

[114] In a roundabout way, he bought a waitress, Taylor Swift tickets.

[115] That's how I see it in my head.

[116] Oh, no, I can't go there.

[117] No. But it's more exciting.

[118] The headline reads better.

[119] He did not endorse the behavior.

[120] No, he just helped the poor girl who had made a mistake.

[121] That's pretty wild.

[122] Concert tickets are what led us to this story of generosity.

[123] Listen, going to Taylor Swift concert, it's not a mistake.

[124] Going to Taylor Swift concert, if you put it on your credit card and you're broke and you're a waitress, that's a mistake.

[135] We were 16 days in Egypt.

[136] It was an absolute blast, luxury.

[137] everything live like no one else later you can live like no one else buddy you tip somebody a hundred bucks in egypt you change their whole that worth it's a lot of fun so i'm spreading hundreds everywhere it was the most i had more fun doing that than i did on the trip trip was great but this is a generosity hour it's the most fun you can have with money and we're going to prove it to you over and over for the next few minutes don't you go anywhere this is the ramsie shop George Camel, Ramsey Personality is my co -host today.

[145] She's standing on the debt -free stage to talk about an incredible journey you've been on, huh, kiddo?

[146] Hi, how you doing, Dave?

[147] Hi, George.

[148] Hey.

[149] I have been so incredibly blessed.

[150] My story starts back in May of 2021.

[151] I was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of breast cancer called triple negative.

[152] I actually got the call here at work that day.

[153] I mean, you don't do just double negative.

[154] You go triple.

[155] Triple negative.

[156] Why not?

[157] It's pretty bad.

[158] Why not?

[159] The doctor called and said, well, Melissa, this is not really the news that we wanted.

[160] You've got a really aggressive form of breast cancer.

[161] it's called triple negative.

[162] He said, don't Google it.

[163] Of course I Googled it.

[164] Don't Google anything.

[165] Can't tell someone not to Google it.

[166] Exactly.

[167] That made me want to Google it.

[168] That particular type has a high recurrence rate, fewer treatment options, real aggressive grows very fast.

[169] So I was here at work, got that call.

[170] Immediately I had prayer warriors around me, hands on praying for me. The next day at the...

[171] Yeah, the bunch of works at this front lobby with you.

[172] That's kind of what Yes.

[173] Yes, they do.

[174] I'm part of the most amazing team.

[175] Guest Relations, Deanna, Kat, Janelle, Lindsay, amazing, front lines, Dave.

[176] But anyway, so you actually came out of the studio on a break from the show.

[177] I don't know if you remember this.

[178] You came out, hugged me, and prayed over me. That meant the world to me, and you let me know, let us know what you need.

[179] So fast forward.

[180] A few weeks, I was about to go up.

[181] out to start 16 rounds of chemo.

[182] My team leader at the time came out.

[183] She said, Melissa, we don't want you working while you're taking chemo.

[184] We want you at home, getting better, concentrating on that.

[185] And I start crying.

[186] She said, your job will be waiting on you when you get back.

[187] I start bawling because y 'all know I love my job.

[188] I got the best job out there.

[189] Best people.

[190] And then she said, Melissa, while you're gone, we're going to pay you full salary.

[191] I just lost it.

[192] I prayed, I mean, I cried so hard, called all my family on the way home.

[193] I said, you're not going to believe this.

[194] They're all crying.

[195] We're thanking God.

[196] It was such a provision from the Lord.

[197] So, fast forward, 16 rounds of chemo, five weeks of daily radiation, a year of immunotherapy, let's see, surgery.

[198] I had residual cancer.

[199] I had to have another eight months of, seven or eight months of chemo.

[200] And you all didn't know all that, that I was going to be.

[201] going to be not even stepped foot in this building for a year and a half we know it at the start but we knew it all along you kept up the day we were all we were all daily checking in with you and you all did nothing but encourage me pray for me um i got so many text calls um gifts at home um get this on my eight year ramesy versory i get a call from my team leader and she says i'm laying in the bed i just had chemo she said happy ramsieversory eight years yay she said you're getting a raised today.

[202] I'm laying in the bed.

[203] I'm like, who does that?

[204] Who does that?

[205] Ramsey Solutions does.

[206] So anyway, I was just so incredibly encouraged.

[207] Another part of this was my treatment bills were very, very high.

[208] I mean, we, David and I really did not know how high they went.

[209] It was because I had all kinds of, you know, some experimental things happening, but I never received a medical bill.

[210] Well, I did, but they were miraculously paid for.

[211] And my deductibles for like a couple of years.

[212] Who does that?

[213] Well, the Lord provided for us.

[214] And we knew, David and I knew, from the minute that I got the diagnosis, the Lord told me, said, Melissa, this is not about you.

[215] This is about me and how I'm going to be glorified through it.

[216] I'm going to take care of you.

[217] Don't worry.

[218] You're going to be fine.

[219] And David and I locked arms with this whole prayer army.

[220] I've got family and friends here and my team here at work.

[221] I mean, the encouragement was crazy.

[222] David, my husband, his nickname was coach positive because he was.

[223] He was coach.

[224] He was tough sometimes.

[225] But my sisters, my friends, I've got the prayer warriors here, my best friend that did food.

[226] I can't even say.

[227] But Dave Rancy Solutions was amazing through this.

[228] This has been three years of hell.

[229] It'll be three years.

[230] Your hair grew back good.

[231] Isn't it great?

[232] Mine didn't grow back good.

[233] But I didn't have cancer.

[234] But I mean, I kept thinking if your hair grew back that good, there's a chance for me, but there's not.

[235] I mean, it really did.

[236] Did you color it?

[237] No. It's just completely black.

[238] Wow.

[239] It's awesome.

[240] Well, I did, you know, I had highlighted it for a few years, so I sort of forgot how dark it was, but I think it came back even darker.

[241] But, yeah, I, but you know, Dave, something that I learned through this, my husband and I, we had many conversations, is if you hear of someone in need, make that call, pay that visit.

[242] take that food even if it's awkward you don't know them that well it's always awkward it's always awkward but but the i'm i'm here to tell you because i've been the recipient of it of people that i don't really even know brought me food flowers gifts all kinds of things and it blessed me and it helped me it encouraged me and now through that through all of this god has transformed my heart in many ways.

[243] I mean, I was walking with the Lord before, but now, me and him are at a place I never thought was possible, but I will never be the same as far as giving and doing for others.

[244] And I hate that it took cancer to do that.

[245] You were already that way.

[246] That's one of the reasons everybody loved Melissa.

[247] I don't think they change you that much.

[248] But the end of the story today is you're free.

[249] Well, they don't say that I'm cancer free.

[250] They say I'm no evidence of disease because of the kind that I had, that they will wait, but each year that goes by, the percentages go down.

[251] When I get to five years, they may say cancer -free, but Dave, I've been healed.

[252] The doctors can say what they want to say, but I've been healed, and I know I have.

[253] There's no current signs.

[254] There's no current signs.

[255] I'm great.

[256] I'm out here.

[257] I'm back to work full -time since November.

[258] Does a chemo knocked the crud out of you?

[259] Yeah, it did.

[260] I mean, it knocked you down hard.

[261] Yeah, it did.

[262] It took a little while to come.

[263] I mean, the cure will kill you.

[264] Yes.

[265] You know, it's like, it's nasty.

[266] It was bad.

[267] But you're back and you're back to work, what, three days a week or four?

[268] Dave, I'm here every day, eight to five now.

[269] You're back five.

[270] I knew we approved you to come back for three, but I didn't know you're back to five.

[271] You had to let your energy level get back.

[272] Right.

[273] And I kind of had to beg to, I'm like, y 'all, I'm ready.

[274] I'm ready.

[275] Put me in coach.

[276] Put me and coach.

[277] And, you know, and they were all so, they all cared about my health more than me coming and feel in a place in here.

[278] And this guest relations team, Dave, y 'all had, were swamped in here in the lobby and they all rallied.

[279] They just did what they had to do to take care of business.

[280] And it was, you know, and I've got people out here.

[281] I need to be sure and think carried me to chemo appointments, doctor visits, brought us meals, encouraged me when I couldn't get out of the bed.

[282] I can't even name all their names.

[283] It is, it is humbling to be the recipient at this level.

[284] Yeah.

[285] Generosity coming from every direction.

[286] Right.

[287] And you're too week to do anything about it.

[288] You can't stop it.

[289] Right.

[290] Exactly.

[291] Well, we're glad to have Mama Mel back.

[292] You said we're surrounded by warriors, but we've seen your journey.

[438] So for his 18th birthday that was coming up, my mom is like, I don't know what to do for him.

[439] All he's doing is spending all of his money, and he's going to end up nowhere.

[440] And so I recommended total money makeover for him, and so she got online and ordered it used to try to save some money and brought it down.

[441] There's nothing cheaper than a used total money makeover book.

[442] That's the cheap on cheap.

[443] Yes.

[444] And she bought one for herself.

[445] And she knew that we have followed you for years and that my husband and I are doing well.

[446] So she's like, will you teach us?

[447] Will you sit down and do a budget with your brother?

[448] I was like, yeah.

[449] So they came down for Thanksgiving.

[450] And he opened the book and he started reading the first chapter and there was $100.

[451] And my mom just looked at me. And she's like, why did you do that?

[452] I said, I promise, mom.

[453] I did not do that.

[454] And he's reading an every.

[455] chapter, there was a $100 bill.

[456] So he ended up with $1 ,300 in cash from reading a year book.

[457] Pretty much he starts fast forward speed reading at some point, right?

[458] No, he did.

[459] He read the whole entire book at that point.

[460] Like, I sat there, and he read the whole entire thing.

[461] Did she own it?

[462] She put the $100 in there?

[463] No, she didn't.

[464] She doesn't have it to put in it.

[465] So she bought the used book and the person that owned it before did this and never took their money out?

[466] Yes.

[467] And sold a $1 ,300 in a used book for $10 or something.

[468] It came from thrift books.

[469] I love it.

[470] Everybody's going to thrift books right now and buying books like crazy.

[471] Right.

[472] So yeah, he read that and we sat down and we did his budget and he's in the construction union and we're like, I'm like, bud, you're on baby's step to three already.

[473] This is wild.

[474] So what happened was somebody else's mother put $100 in every chapter, gave them the book, they took it down and sold it to Thrift Books for $2, having never done what their mother told them to do, and then your brother gets the book from your mother used and is the beneficiary of this.

[475] This is whacked.

[476] Yeah, my mom spent like $5 on the book.

[477] That's fabulous.

[478] And it wasn't, the money wasn't easy to see.

[479] I mean, it was in like the middle of every chapter, like really stuck in.

[480] And so you wouldn't see it just, like, flipping through it either.

[481] Yeah, but how dumb is the person that sold the book and never read it?

[482] That's the one that you've got to feel sorry for, right?

[483] Right.

[484] Oh, man, that's hilarious.

[485] But it just, he went from, you know, Baby Step 1 all the way to he'll be done with Baby Step 3 at the end of this month now, and he's 18 years old.

[486] And he has, you know, it just escalated it so quickly.

[487] But he's on beat.

[488] He's going to do it.

[489] Now he's going to live the way, right?

[490] Yes, yes.

[491] He's taking every out -of -state job that he can because he makes so much more money.

[500] that way are holding me back from my potential future that is so great so he he the light bulb actually went on when he finished the book and he's actually going to go become wealthy because of this yeah yeah he um he had kind of been skipping back and forth through some jobs um trying to find a good fit ended up getting in with the union but in the middle of those jobs went into debt with my grandparents because his vehicle needed work on it.

[502] And I'm like, look, at all of this money that you're wasting on fast food and stupid shopping that you don't need to be doing.

[503] And all the while, you could have bought a $5 book with $1 ,300 bucks inside.

[813] This is the second part of my giving story.

[814] This is a continuum of my first story.

[815] So back in 2021, well, first off, my husband Ralph and I, I have been trying to get pregnant for about seven years.

[816] And we were told by the doctor that we had to go through IVF treatments, fertility treatments.

[817] We started our debt -free journey four years ago in October, started your program.

[818] And so at the time, when we found out the cost, we realized we couldn't go back into debt for this.

[819] So we were blessed.

[820] My best friend and his wife actually blessed us with $20 ,000 to go through these treatments.

[821] Wow.

[822] So that was part one of the story.

[823] So we went through IDF and we realized it was a little more than 20.

[824] So it was 30.

[825] So my best friend and his wife said, we got the extra 10.

[826] Don't worry about it.

[827] Wow.

[828] So we went through.

[829] These are good friends.

[830] Yes.

[831] My best friend since high school.

[832] He is amazing.

[833] Went through our first round.

[834] and unfortunately did not have any viable embryos that we can use.

[835] So as you can imagine, we felt completely defeated, just devastated.

[836] But I knew to keep my faith and trust that God would bless me with the desires of my heart, which of course is to be a mom.

[837] So Ralph and I obviously knew we didn't have the money to do another round, so we said, well, maybe we should consider adoption as an alternative.

[838] Well, once my best friend Danny and his wife found out of the outcome of the first round, They said, no, you guys are going to do it again, and they gave us another $30 ,000.

[839] Whoa.

[840] To do another well.

[841] Dang.

[842] Wow.

[843] Which we did, and we got embryos from that.

[844] And last summer, we implanted one of our embryos, and I got pregnant, but I lost the baby very early on in the pregnancy.

[845] So, again, just, you know, try to not question God, right?

[846] Because knowing he has a plan.

[847] Oh, this is a roller coaster of vicious emotions.

[848] It truly was.

[849] So it took me about a year to heal from that loss.

[850] And so a few months ago, I told my husband Ralph, I think I'm ready to do another transfer.

[851] And Dave and Jay, by the grace of God, we are pregnant.

[852] That's so exciting.

[853] Yes, we are pregnant.

[854] We're almost 11 weeks.

[855] We have a beautiful, healthy baby boy growing, and I just still can't believe it.

[856] And we will be debt -free by January.

[857] Well, now there's some interesting timing.

[858] God's timing, right?

[859] Always his time, his plan.

[860] Wow.

[861] Wow.

[862] Well, congratulations.

[863] And what an unbelievable friend.

[864] Yes.

[865] That's what I'm thinking.

[866] Yeah, he is a blessing him and his wife will be the godparents of our son, obviously.

[867] And anything else they want.

[868] Oh, my gosh.

[869] Yes.

[870] That's amazing.

[871] Oh, man. That's amazing.

[872] It has been, I mean, seven years, right, up and down and just so much emotions, but I just, I wanted to come on and share the second part of the story just to remind people to never lose faith in God's plan, never lose hope, because, you know, he takes you through, it's never just a solid line, right?

[873] There's hills and valleys and up and down, and at the end of the day, he always blesses you with those desires.

[874] It's just trusting his time and staying faithful.

[875] Wow.

[876] And then I'm sure for you, this also informs, okay, you're debt -free.

[877] This is going to inform how you live like no one else, right?

[878] Because you've seen how people can bless other people.

[879] I'm sure that you've already got some ideas cooking on how you would want to be a blessing if I'm not wrong, right?

[880] Jane, 100%.

[881] 100%.

[882] And our son will never know the word debt ever.

[883] Wow.

[884] That's incredible.

[888] So your friend, extremely wealthy?

[889] He, you know what?

[890] he became a multi -millionaire.

[891] He works for an organization that kind of blew up when they went public a few years ago, and he's been there since they started up, and he cashed in his stocks.

[892] I mean, my friend never went to college.

[893] I mean, this was just a tremendous blessing, so he and his wife are multi -millionaire.

[894] It's a full gift.

[895] Like, you don't have to pay him back.

[896] Wow.

[897] No, not at all.

[898] And we live, we're from the Bay Area.

[899] We're from San Jose, California, but moved out to Austin about seven years.

[900] years ago.

[901] And so he and his wife will be throwing a shower for us, a baby shower in California with all of my friends and family in a few months.

[902] So that'll be amazing.

[903] Very cool.

[904] I love that.

[905] Yeah.

[906] Go back home for that, yeah.

[907] Or back to the childhood home anyway.

[908] Yeah.

[909] Yeah.

[910] Way to go.

[911] Congratulations.

[912] So my husband and I will be there in Tennessee next year.

[913] We're going to come out and do our debt -free scream.

[914] We've met y 'all when you came to Austin for your event a few months back.

[915] So we will be out there to do our debt -free screen for sure.

[916] And who knows, maybe the baby will be here by that time and you know we can come in you can meet him i would be honored that that's pretty incredible because one of my favorite things other than generosity is babies the only problem with babies is they grow up and want cars and tuition but um other than that they're awesome that's good dave no the little tiny ones i've got i love them but you know and then then then they hit about two and i let the parents take care of them and then uh you know we had like the seven -year -old, the eight -year -old, and a 10 -year -old over last night for, you know, watching Elf, that's the right age.

[917] They've got, you know, they're starting to be able to reason with them.

[918] That's true.

[919] You want them to get to the age where you tell them what to do and they do it.

[920] Hypothetically, yeah.

[921] I love it.

[922] Don't do that to the dog.

[923] You'll kill the dog.

[924] Don't do that.

[925] That's funny.

[926] When Sam and I found out we were having our first son, we did the little gender reveal and my pastor leans over and he says, oh, it's a boy.

[927] way, that's great.

[928] You don't have to pay for the wedding.

[929] That's the first thing he started thinking about.

[932] Not even had the kid yet.

[933] I know right.

[934] This is great.

[987] And so we found a Kroger over there and we thought it'd be really cool if we could find a way to give away groceries to folks.

[988] And so it kind of, we wanted to be sneaky about it.

[989] We didn't want them to know that that's what we were there to do.

[990] But at the same time, you have to kind of let them in a little bit because you have to get them to sign a waiver so that they can be on camera.

[991] And so what we did is we told them that we had a YouTube show and that we wanted to get their opinion on inflation and rising costs at the grocery store.

[992] And so that's how we got them to talk to us.

[993] And then we kind of...

[994] And you've got a miced up that way and so on.

[995] Because I know it's the one lady when I was looking at it had a mic on.

[996] I'm like, how did you get a mic on?

[1126] Well, I think here's what I found.

[1127] Three hours to fill those buggies.

[1128] It was, I feel like it was.

[1129] Yeah, it was maybe like two hours, two and a half.

[1130] But the first, the first one took a while.

[1131] And then we started saying, all you have 10 minutes and that helped move things along.

[1132] Oh, okay.

[1133] So they weren't all at the same time.

[1134] We had to put them on.

[1135] They were running back to back to back.

[1136] That's right.

[1137] Oh, I see.

[1138] We had to put them on a timeline.

[1139] The edit makes it feels like they're all together.

[1140] Okay.

[1141] Yeah.

[1142] What I found was when you first say, hey go fill up your cart there's like this moment of this can't be true yeah and then it's like well I'll just get a little bit and I'm like no pile it in up the cart yes everything you can get in this cart we're paying for that's right and uh it took them a moment and finally it clicked in it's like oh I'm getting crab legs and I'm getting like steaks like because they were grabbing little stuff I was like guys you don't understand the blessing here like we're using Dave's money don't buy cereal it takes up too much room that's right so oh that was a good good time so so fun that's fun that's very cool well done well done gang it's a lot of fun it is uh it is the most fun you can have with the money it is i mean we say it over and over and over again but when you experience that uh secret santa type of thing where you just walk up and randomly yeah blow somebody's mind yeah fill up their uh gas fill up their tanks with gas i mean when we had the uh fouchy pandemic thing going we uh sent a bunch of our team over um to eat to two of the hospitals, the local hospitals, to the gas station next door and all the nurses and techs and docks that came up when we're filling up with gas.

[1143] We paid for their gas filled up all of them's car.

[1144] It was a lot of fun.

[1145] That's so much fun.

[1146] Because they were on the front lines and there were so much tension in the air and fear in the air in those days and everybody thought, you know, we're scared of other human beings and all this stuff.

[1147] And you just went out there and started putting gas in somebody's car.

[1148] All of a sudden everybody chilled out.

[1149] Yeah.

[1150] You know?

[1151] I would agree with that.

[1152] It was cool in the store because, you know, that was four folks that you saw getting blessed, but there was a lot of people in the store watching that happen.

[1153] And there was this older guy who walked up to me. He goes, what are y 'all doing?

[1154] You're giving away free groceries?

[1155] I said, yeah.

[1156] And he said, well, what do you have to do to get him?

[1157] And I said, well, you have to be willing to be on camera.

[1158] And he was like, okay, well, I'm not willing to be on camera.

[1159] And it just so happened that when it was time to check out the two ladies, he was right in front of us.

[1160] So we were able to get his groceries too.

[1161] And I said, look, you're here.

[1162] Let's just your groceries too.

[1163] You don't have to be on camera, I said, but.

[1164] And so I was just so happy the way it worked out because, and then of course there's the cashier.

[1165] She's ringing up everybody and she's watching all these people get a blessing.

[1166] What was he hiding from the law?

[1167] What was the deal?

[1168] I don't know.

[1169] He didn't have his hair done that day.

[1170] I don't know.

[1171] People get weird about being on camera, but it was fun that the way the day worked out, he ended up being in line with us and he, you know, got to benefit from that too.

[1172] So it was fun.

[1173] That's neat.

[1208] 45 days about, oh, wow.

[1209] Fairly newbie then.

[1210] Okay, good.

[1211] All right, cool.

[1212] So welcome and you step forward.

[1213] We put out a note to our team and said if any of you have great generosity stories you want to share on the air, you can.

[1214] And Lily, step forward.

[1215] This is a special story.

[1216] I've already heard a little bit about this.

[1217] And so I'll turn it over to you.

[1218] Thank you.

[1219] So in middle school, my parents divorced.

[1220] And my dad ended up taking a job opportunity several states away, knowing that he would be a able to still fly in and see us over the weekends or fly us to see him.

[1221] So we remained close to him.

[1222] He was a very special part of my life.

[1223] And fast forward several years, he decided he wanted to move back to Nashville and be closer to my younger brothers to finish out their basketball games and finish out their younger years, not every other weekend, but more often throughout the week.

[1224] And he moved back as he was getting closer to retirement age.

[1225] He was about 50.

[1226] And about two months later, he was diagnosed with glioblastoma, which is a very deadly brain cancer.

[1227] Yeah.

[1228] It was a big blow to the family.

[1229] And we all researched it quietly on our own.

[1230] And though we tried to remain positive, we knew that it likely meant he would be leaving us.

[1231] so um how old were you i was let's see i was in my early 20s okay 20 um so i was in college actually at the time um i had just transferred from school in new york to back home which is a god thing and so i was at the university of tennessee in knoxville and um as he was sick would come home regularly to help um every single week with this type of cancer he would lose more ability to speak, ability to understand words, and more of his personality.

[1232] So it was every week a new version of my dad that was a little bit less, which was really, really hard to endure.

[1233] And so during those months, as times going on, I realized I was very single at the time.

[1234] But being so close to my dad, I cannot imagine a day where hopefully I get married and he's not there.

[1235] And my husband doesn't get to hear from him, meet him, and I think a lot of girls want their dad to be able to walk them down the aisle.

[1236] So I felt a little nervous about it.

[1237] I didn't want to suggest that I thought he was definitely going to die, but knowing that it was a very real possibility, I talked to my stepmom about it, and she thought it was a good idea.

[1238] So we started kind of trying to turn the wheels.

[1239] And a girl that I grew up with in middle school, Sorry, elementary school.

[1240] Her and her brother had grown a very successful wedding videography business in town.

[1241] And I reached out to them full intent to pay for a wedding video.

[1242] I think their wedding videos start at $10 ,000.

[1243] Wow.

[1244] So you were going to do a wedding video with your dad, but you were not engaged and weren't dating anyone.

[1245] Yeah.

[1246] We just wanted to recreate a moment.

[1247] Just to put that, just to have that in the memory box.

[1248] Yeah.

[1249] Yeah, and the reason I wanted it to be filmed, I wanted to do it for two reasons.

[1250] One reason, most importantly, for my dad and I to just have the experience.

[1251] It's something he wanted.

[1252] It's something that I wanted.

[1253] And in case we didn't get that chance.

[1254] But two, a video to be able to share, something that's timeless, if that day comes where I'm married or getting married, and he's not here.

[1255] And after talking to them, they wanted to do it.

[1256] and they were booked for pretty much the whole year.

[1257] I was about to travel abroad to Italy, and my dad was declining again every week.

[1258] And I felt he was still in pretty good condition at that time, but I felt for some reason, like, if I wait, it's not going to be soon enough.

[1259] And so they said they wanted to do it.

[1260] They wanted to gift it to us.

[1261] Wow.

[1262] Which was huge.

[1263] That's a big gift.

[1264] That's the generosity play.

[1265] Yeah.

[1266] We wouldn't have been able.

[1267] They gave you their services.

[1268] Yeah.

[1269] They filmed it themselves.

[1270] They actually have two sections of the business, and one is them, and one is some people that they basically contract out.

[1271] And so they put everything together.

[1272] We also had a family connection that own a wedding venue, so Allen Brook Farms.

[1273] And they gifted us their venue.

[1274] So there was a wedding that was going to be on Saturday, and everything got set up.

[1275] early on Friday, another God moment, and everything was gifted.

[1276] The flowers were gifted.

[1277] Wow.

[1278] Yeah.

[1279] And so we got to have this moment together, which was super special.

[1280] And then I went away to Italy, came back.

[1281] My dad had lost a good bit of his personality.

[1282] And we got the video back.

[1283] We sat on the living room couch, watched it together and cried.

[1284] Yeah.

[1285] Yeah.

[1286] I'll never forget that moment.

[1287] And still single, still not sure when it would be used, but a moment that we got to have together.

[1288] That's beautiful.

[1289] Wow.

[1290] Fast forward to last year, and I'm about to get married.

[1291] So this experience was about five years ago.

[1292] And then got engaged in last October, we had everyone at our wedding venue.

[1293] which was also gifted since my dad wasn't able to help provide for the wedding.

[1294] And we had a projector up.

[1295] And instead of doing the father -daughter dance, we played this video.

[1296] And my husband got to watch it for the first time with me. It's really cool.

[1297] Wow.

[1298] Yeah.

[1299] Wow.

[1300] So it felt like my worlds were colliding.

[1301] I remembered the moment that I was in there.

[1302] And even though my dad was gone, it felt like he was there with me a little bit.

[1303] he was yeah beautiful yeah beautiful lots of generosity makes a tragic really sad thing a precious memory yeah exactly transformed it yeah something i wouldn't have gotten to have and share yeah wow yeah otherwise wow so was there was the videographer who gifted their services then you even got the wedding venue and they were booked exactly yeah and it was just such a god thing they both had the same Friday available and basically no other day of the year wow um so everything was just lining up quickly it was like a week before i was studying abroad again i just felt um an urge to do it quickly yeah and um yeah Dallas wilson wedding films wow and um yeah they gifted it to us and so thankful oh that's a beautiful story yeah pretty cool pretty cool generosity story.

[1304] It's tragic and sad.

[1305] I'm crying with you, but wow, powerful, powerful.

[1306] No better use for money.

[1307] The best use you can have with money.

[1358] Okay, so we're kind of still in the middle of our story, but to just kind of go back a little bit, my husband lost his job after 15 years at a company, and we found ourselves door dashing 10 hours a day to try and survive.

[1359] And so we went to our church just to see what they could do or what they could help with, which is a really humbling experience.

[1360] And, of course, they were there for us.

[1361] And we got gas cards and grocery cards.

[1362] But then one day I received a text from one of the women that was working with us.

[1363] And she asked me to come into church early one day just to tell our whole story, which is actually rather pretty long.

[1364] And so I went in and I thought she was just being super sweet and told her the whole story.

[1365] and she asked what, you know, what I needed.

[1366] And at that point, I was so thankful for the gas cards and the grocery help that they were providing.

[1367] And honestly, I just wanted prayer.

[1368] And I really just wanted somebody to talk to, you know, somebody to kind of be alongside of us through our journey.

[1369] And so that was it.

[1370] We hugged.

[1371] And I went to church service and left and went back home.

[1372] And I don't know if it was a couple weeks later, we received.

[1373] another text that asked my husband and I together to come into the church and to meet with the pastor at our local church and her as well.

[1374] And we had no idea what to expect.

[1375] So we went in there, sat down, and found out that somebody had given the church $50 ,000 to manage to bless somebody that was in our shoes.

[1376] Wow.

[1377] And it was split between our family and another family who was in need.

[1378] And so we received $25 ,000.

[1379] That's a lot of money.

[1380] It is a lot of money.

[1381] You don't know what to say or how to react in those moments.

[1382] I mean, that's a fully funded emergency fund for.

[1383] some people.

[1384] That's a lot of money.

[1385] It is.

[1386] It is.

[1387] So whoever, we don't know still to this day, we have one month left at this moment of help and we're so thankful for that.

[1388] But we don't know who it is and we're not supposed to know who it is.

[1389] But we know that a little bit of their story is just at some point.

[1390] I think this is an older couple.

[1391] They had the same thing happen.

[1392] Maybe they lost a job, almost lost their house, and somebody did this for them.

[1393] And all these years later, they are really successful.

[1394] I've heard they've had some health issues, but they wanted to return and do the same thing.

[1395] And Dave and Jade, I have to tell you, we, when all this happened, we were debt free because we follow you.

[1396] We did have a three -month emergency fund that helped us through at the beginning before we went to the church.

[1397] And, um, we did, we did have a three -month emergency fund.

[1398] And, um, the day will come when we do this exact thing.

[1399] I know it will.

[1400] Amen.

[1401] The ability to pay it forward will be incredible.

[1402] My goodness.

[1403] Well done.

[1404] Wow.

[1405] Somebody well done out there.

[1408] Now, how old were you all when all this happened?

[1409] Uh, 30, so around 35.

[1410] It's been about a two -year journey that we've been on.

[1411] Husband's gotten a job now?

[1412] He, he does have a job.

[1413] It's not, we don't know.

[1414] what's happening, but it's not even enough still to pay the bills.

[1415] We went from a six -figure income to just, I mean, almost losing our house.

[1416] And we have applied, I mean, miracles that happened nonstop.

[1417] Somebody paid for, actually, our free school paid for all our Christmas gifts last year for our kids when taxes were due, because we just worked nonstop.

[1418] I opened a dog business, which has been really successful in my home, and we plan on expanding it.

[1419] But we're just, like, scraping by still, but we've never missed a payment on anything.

[1420] And we don't play the lottery.

[1421] I always listen, Dave, because you make fun of your daughter for going on vacations and you know, gambling and stuff.

[1422] But we don't gamble.

[1423] But my husband got some numbers in his head and bought a $2 lottery ticket where he had to put the numbers in on a random day and won $10 ,000.

[1424] And after taxes, it was enough to pay our.

[1425] are taxes for the year, which we didn't have.

[1426] That's wacky.

[1427] That's crazy.

[1428] It's been nonstop.

[1429] I don't even know how to explain it.

[1430] Wow.

[1431] What a story.

[1432] Way to go.

[1433] Thank you for sharing.

[1437] They say, find two unemployed families that are struggling, give them 25 each, or that's how the pastor decides to split it up anyway.

[1444] And it's funny how when you go through a hard time, that's what informs how you want to give later on.

[1447] And so you feel obligated and you feel, I mean, really obligations not the word, but you want to help out in that same area.

[1448] well you're inspired by people that are feeling the same kind of pain you want yes you know that's the thing so yeah there's nothing wrong with that at all no that's i mean if you've if you've been through uh cancer then you know you know you're a sauce spot for people that are going through cancer you that's whatever it is you're going to always have that and that that's perfectly fine by the way that's one of the things with the ramsay family foundation we we uh don't give to things that at least one of us don't have one member of the family uh doesn't have some kind of an emotional connection to you have to it doesn't have to be that we necessarily felt that kind of pain but this is something that's on our heart it's not just generally we're looking at the numbers and we just try to randomly figure out oh these people are doing a good job no we need to have a feeling about it needs to connect to us yeah and um because we don't give to that many different things we do well with the ones we do give to but um you know one of the one of the analysis is does somebody in here in the ramsie family when we're sitting and talking about this does somebody in here have a connection to this and I mean does it does it prick your heart does it make you come alive to say we want to do our generosity that way that's right and there's nothing wrong with avoiding something that is perfectly valid but that doesn't motivate you yeah of course yeah so lots of very cool stuff out there lots of things you can do to be randomly generous or very intentional and diligently generous by the way I suggest you do both you don't mess up with generosity.

[1496] Yeah, thank you so much for all you do for the American people and even the people of the world.

[1497] You're both absolutely American heroes.

[1502] So last year my friend Andrew was killed in the line of duty.

[1503] He was a SWAT deputy sheriff and also U .S. Army combat veteran.

[1504] But most importantly to me, he was my friend.

[1505] And as we were sitting at his funeral, they performed what's called an end -of -watch call ceremony.

[1506] And it's where a dispatcher calls for the deputy, but the call goes unanswered.

[1507] There's just silence.

[1508] However, once they finish the call, they play the deputy's voice with the quote saying the end of watch, which means all as well.

[1509] And as I heard Andrew's previous recorded voice, closed the ceremony with Code 4.

[1510] I just felt a feeling overwhelming feeling of peace come over me. But most importantly, an overwhelming feeling to take action.

[1511] So as my wife I were driving home from the funeral, we decided that we were going to do something special for Andrew's family because we didn't want them to feel like they were alone.

[1512] And so Christmas was Andrew's favorite holiday.

[1513] So we decided that we were going to pay for Christmas for his family.

[1514] So when the Christmas season rolled around, we made, we got them a beautiful Christmas tree, delivered it right to their doorstep.

[1515] We bought amazing thought -filled gifts that reminded them of their father and the great, you know, experiences they had with Andrew.

[1516] We had a beautiful Christmas dinner delivered to their house, so they didn't have to worry about, you know, the time and work it takes to prepare that dinner.

[1517] And, you know, I'm an American soldier like Andrew was, and my wife's a school teacher, you know, so money doesn't necessarily come easy at our house.

[1518] However, because of what you all have taught, we have multiple side hustles.

[1519] And one of those side hustles is actually a very successful, like, you know, vintage 80s -themed and modern collectible store in our mall.

[1520] And so because of the profits that we make from that store, we were able to provide Christmas for Andrews family, not only last year, but this year as well.

[1521] Wow.

[1522] And I just wanted to say, you know, as American soldier, I am constantly bombarded with people that, you know, thank you for your service and all these heartfelt banks.

[1523] I'm very grateful for it.

[1524] But I was hoping so if I could ask all the Ramsey listeners to maybe think of the heroes that are closer to homeless year.

[1525] You know, they're all around us.

[1526] and they're the ones who will come running towards danger to protect us while all others run away.

[1527] Yep.

[1528] And they're willing to give their ultimate sacrifice in order to save our lives, like my friend Andrew did.

[1529] So they're our protectors, and they're the law enforcement first responders.

[1530] So if I could just ask everybody to please bank them and for the benefit of protection they provide each and every day, I'd appreciate that.

[1560] that helps somebody that doesn't have a car and that would be a cruel joke though just to bring the key i got keys for you no that would be no we're not doing that no give them the car too that go with the keys but yeah i mean do some stuff like that it's amazing how much car you can buy for four or five thousand bucks even two thousand bucks um so i mean and you can go you know you if you go buy five or ten of them you can you can get a deal oh yeah what's amazing to me is when you're not worried about your bills you can worry about other people's bills there's a piece of getting out of debt where you get to look up and out at opportunity because you're not so self -focused.

[1561] And if it's not you this year, if you're in struggling this year, and this is your year to turn things around and get to be that guy someday, that's okay.

[1562] You're supposed to take care of your own household first.

[1563] Are you worse than an unbeliever?

[1564] That's scriptural.

[1565] Then, yeah, we take care of now, then we take care of then, start thinking about the future, and that's taking care of your household as well.

[1566] Then we think about us, our family, making sure our family's taken care of, and that's generationally changing things, and then them, that's community.

[1567] And you'll work through that progression as your wealth increases and your quality of management of that wealth increases.

[1568] It's a natural thing that occurs.

[1603] What an honor.

[1604] Honor to be with you, sir.

[1605] Merry Christmas.

[1606] tell us the story okay so um about a year ago we we got a we had a fellow contractor um that found out that um that he died and so then we got a phone call from a potential client we went out and visited with the client and through discussion discussion we found out that um that this fellow was actually on that project when he went home to take a nap and passed away and so we got with our fellow members of the Oklahoma City Decorative Concrete Association and we actually all decided that we wanted to take this project on and see how we could help the widow and so went out and met with the potential client asked him if we could take on this project finish it up doing an epoxy floor and if he would then write the check for the remaining balance on the job to the widow.

[1607] And so we came to an agreement that he would do that.

[1608] One of the contractors supplied the material.

[1609] We supplied all the labor.

[1610] It took about six days through the project, finished it all up.

[1611] And then at the end, we went and presented the check to the widow and her three kids, and they were just, you know, completely blown away.

[1612] It was a little over $8 ,000.

[1613] All right.

[1614] Wow.

[1615] Very cool.

[1616] And all, it took was a little bit of creativity and six days of work.

[1617] Yeah, yeah.

[1618] Well, and somebody to furnish the materials on the other side too, but yeah.

[1619] Yeah, right.

[1620] And what was really neat is even our guys on our crew, they actually came up to me when they found out about the project, and they asked if they could work for free or for half their hourly wages, which we didn't allow them to do that, but I thought that was really neat that they wanted to be part of it in that way as well.

[1621] Wow.

[1622] Love it.

[1623] Love it.

[1624] Way to go, guys.

[1625] Wow.

[1626] Very cool.

[1627] So this guy was a concrete, he was a concrete sub is what you're saying.

[1628] Yeah, yeah, decorative concrete.

[1629] So we do like epoxy coating or a polished concrete, things like that.

[1630] And that's what he did as well.

[1631] And yeah, I guess he had, you know, he was battling with COVID.

[1632] And his guys were on the job doing the project.

[1633] He went home, you know, and during that time, he took a nap and I didn't suffer a heart attack.

[1634] and just didn't make it through.

[1635] So, you know, we were just, we felt the calling.

[1636] You know, we've done some projects like this where we've reached out to the community and helped out some schools and different things.

[1637] But this one was, this one really hit home because it was such a personal level.

[1638] And he was a fellow contractor.

[1639] Yeah, just right there in the neighborhood.

[1640] Oh, my gosh.

[1641] Wow.

[1642] Very good idea, Thomas.

[1643] How old are you?

[1644] I'm 37.

[1645] My brother and business partner is 43.

[1646] How long?

[1647] all been in business?

[1648] Since 2008.

[1649] So right after high school for me and he was a little older than that and which kind of learned it and went from there.

[1650] I suspect you're going to continue to prosper.

[1651] Well done, sir.

[1652] And you probably inspire that whole crew to even be more generous with their time and their talent and their money.

[1653] Well, the thing is you can be kind to someone, be generous to someone and it affects that person, but it is impossible for you to do that and not affect other people simultaneously because someone somewhere is watching, even if you don't want them to be, even if you're trying to keep it secret.

[1654] Someone saw that happen and it inspired them, it changed them, it caused them to think, you know, the checkout, the girl checking out the groceries, you know, if you pay for the buggy in front, right, you just pay it forward.

[1655] It inspires the person doing the checkout.

[1656] It inspires the person that got the grocery.

[1657] free groceries, but also inspires the person doing the checkout.

[1658] They're never the same.

[1659] No. Generosity shapes, reshapes people's brains, and they can never return to the same shape.

[1660] Once you've witnessed it, once you've been part of it, there's a chemistry that's completely different than spending, completely different than enjoyment of money on a fun thing yourself, or saving up and, you know, getting something you've worked really hard for.

[1661] All of those things are fine.

[1662] There's nothing wrong with that at all.

[1663] We teach that all the time.

[1664] But it doesn't reshape your brain.

[1665] What reshapes your brain is witnessing and participating in generosity.

[1666] Well, we've always said money amplifies who you are.

[1667] It's a magnifying glass.

[1668] But what's interesting is that generosity changes who you are.

[1669] And that's what's so powerful about it.

[1670] It's not necessarily the, you know, the amorality of money, but it's what you do with it.

[1671] And when you give it away, it affects you way more than just hanging on to it, spending it and having a good time.

[1672] And I think that's increased, I know what it is, just from personal experience.

[1673] I don't I don't have data on this but just anecdotally it's increased dramatically when there's a personal element to it so like the filming that we showed in another hour of you going into the Waffle House and giving each of the staff members 500 bucks and then one lady who'd had a particularly hard year giving her $2 ,000 you were up close in person I mean she's crying we catch it on camera of course but you get the hug you know she's you know everybody's watching all of this in the whole freaking Waffle House.

[1674] I mean, it's a show going on in a sense.

[1675] And so that reshapes everyone that is within touching distance of that.

[1676] That's a little different than mailing a check to X, Y, Z. Hitting the button on the website, which is still great.

[1677] There's nothing wrong with that.

[1678] You're losing that personal experience for sure.

[1679] I mean, we just had a bunch of tornadoes north of Nashville up in the Clarksville area, a bunch of homes destroyed.

[1680] And, yeah, you can send money there through X, Y, Z that if there's a good X, Y, Z. But there's a little difference in the buddy of ours that has a church up there.

[1681] And they're on the ground cleaning up trash.

[1682] They're showing up, clean up trash and helping people find the, you know, the kid's stroller four blocks over and all this kind of stuff.

[1683] It's crazy what goes on with the tornado.

[1684] But, yeah, there's a thing that happens when you're there and you witness it in, person, the person receiving it, or the person giving it, for that matter.

[1685] If you just watch it happen, it's a lot different than hitting submit on a website.

[1686] It's the same thing's true of ordering, you know, buying something that you go into a store, you touch it, you feel it, you think about it.

[1687] There's a sensory thing.

[1688] And then you make the decision to buy it's a lot different than I think it might fit.

[1689] Let's see.

[1690] If it doesn't, they can allow me to return it.

[1691] You hit click, click, right?

[1692] It's a different thing.

[1693] We've lost that for sure.

[1694] in a digital age.

[1695] Yeah.

[1696] It's a good reminder when you're giving to find ways to make it personal.

[1758] And one of the stories I just kept popping with me was the one about the Thanksgiving morning at the Waffle House.

[1759] And, you know, I just had this feeling.

[1760] I was just like, I can't wait until I'm in a situation where I can actually, I do that.

[1761] So as I just kept going and listening, I decided some point in October, like, you know what, I'm going to do something this Thanksgiving morning.

[1762] It's not going to be on that scale, but I'm going to do something.

[1763] something.

[1764] So the day before Thanksgiving, I tell my seven -year -old boy, is like, look, after the gym tomorrow, we're going to hit the diner, which is kind of a surprise.

[1765] I mean, the morning of Thanksgiving, morning.

[1766] We're going to a diner.

[1767] But he had no idea what was up.

[1768] So after we had left the gym, I let him choose the diner.

[1769] I even let him choose what we were going to sit at the booth or table service.

[1770] And, you know, I had these $2 .50 all of bills in my pocket, and I was going to, you know, I was going to, I was going to tip a waitress, so, uh, $100 .00, yes.

[1771] Whoa.

[1772] Good.

[1773] I like this.

[1774] I know.

[1775] I did have a little, uh, you know, a little trepidation.

[1776] I mean, we're dead smack in the middle of baby step two.

[1777] Uh, $15 ,000 are we thrown at the snowball, five credit accounts, uh, already down.

[1778] And so I was think, I was like, you know, maybe I can use a hundred bucks elsewhere.

[1779] I mean, it's Thanksgiving morning and I'm out of dina and I know I'm not ordering rice and beans today.

[1780] And my son, you know, he's 17.

[1781] He was going to order like he was going to the electric chair at midnight.

[1782] So I'm thinking to myself, like, maybe just 50 bucks.

[1783] But the waitress comes over.

[1784] She's in her late 50s, quick reading, drinks.

[1785] And, you know, I finally told myself that.

[1786] I was like, no, they said, you know, this is the most fun you can have the money.

[1787] So, you know, we're going to do it.

[1788] I even had it, you know, as a line item in the every dollar app.

[1789] you know, 100 bucks, you know, it's for gobble, gobble, fun.

[1790] So, you know, we were going to do this.

[1791] So she comes back with drinks.

[1792] I decided to start up, open up a little rapport.

[1793] And I was like, I was like, how did you get so lucky to work Thanksgiving morning?

[1794] And at this point, this is when God showed up.

[1795] She was like, in this thick southern drawer that had no business been anywhere near Albany.

[1796] She says, oh, I don't mind, honey, I live here alone.

[1797] All my family is back home in Tennessee.

[1798] And I couldn't believe what I heard.

[1799] I mean, here I am, you know, the, I'm trying to go through all these Ramsey steps.

[1800] And I'm wondering, is this the, you know, is this, is this what I should be doing?

[1801] And here she is, you know, a waitress, a thousand miles away from home in Albany.

[1802] And she's from Tennessee.

[1803] You know, the last three months has just been, you know, intense.

[1804] I'm trying to recreate this Waffle House story.

[1805] And here she is, my waitress in Tennessee.

[1806] I mean, I almost handed $50 bills right there.

[1807] We hadn't even ordered food yet.

[1808] So, I mean, my son could have chosen any diner.

[1809] I mean, he could have chose a counter.

[1810] Because, you know, we went up at that booth, and, you know, it had to be her.

[1811] It was her.

[1812] So, I mean, the whole meal I was just, you know, I was in all.

[1813] I was, like, I knew this was God's work.

[1814] This was, like, you know, the light.

[1815] So we paid the bill.

[1816] She came back and, you know, I reached in my pocket, I handed it to $250.

[1817] And, you know, she was floored, too.

[1818] I mean, her eyes kind of said, you know, I can't take this.

[1819] But, you know, I just, I said thanks for the breakfast.

[1820] I guess not all of us, New York is a bad.

[1821] And I don't know if she needed the money, but I know I needed her.

[1822] After that, it was worth a heck of a lot more than $100.

[1823] I mean, so, you.

[1824] We got back into the car.

[1825] I explained the story to my son and, you know, why it was just, you know, so crazy that this waitress was from Tennessee.

[1826] And, you know, he's been listening, you know, it's been going in the background for months, you know, your podcast, your stories, you know, everything.

[1827] They're getting books for Christmas.

[1828] They have no idea.

[1829] It's in their stockings.

[1830] George's book is, you know, it will be here in January.

[1831] So they know that I'm all in.

[1832] And so when I explained it to him, he was just like, you know, we should do this every Thanksgiving.

[1833] I was like, the diner or the giving?

[1834] And he's like, no, no, they're giving.

[1835] I was like, yeah, I think that's really cool.

[1881] Sarah is with us on our giving show today.

[1882] Hi, Sarah in Nashville.

[1883] Tell us your giving story.

[1884] So I got to call in back in August and get some help with my mortgage, and someone heard my story and offered to help the kids and I with our mortgage, and they are from Murphy's Borough.

[1885] They actually, when I spoke to the guy, Nate Burns, he had told me that I knew his sister -in -law, and he explained to me that his sister -in -law knew me and had heard my story on your show.

[1886] Also, she was the donor liaison who held my hand and walked me through the orphanage.

[1887] donating process when my husband passed away and she's the one that's been in contact with us every year annually about our organ recipients and how they're doing and the lives that my husband was able to save and give a second chance and the way the whole situation took the whole circle it was just it was very it was a phenomenal experience wow it's just wild okay so I'm just now catching on and I make sure our audience catches on as well Sarah called in back in the summer and was about to be foreclosed on, we took her call, John Deloney and I did, George had Sarah on a few weeks ago to revisit that, but when you called in your house, you owed like $65 ,000 is worth $300 ,000, and it was 45 days from being foreclosed on, only needed about $3 ,000 to be current.

[1888] And a bunch of things have happened around Sarah's life since then.

[1889] One was the house was brought current to another listener donated her car.

[1890] Her husband was 36 years old and fell through a roof.

[1891] He was a roofer and passed away.

[1892] And now you're saying his, when that happened, he had planned to donate his organs.

[1893] And the liaison ended up being the cousin of the guy who sent you the money to catch your house up?

[1894] The sister -in -law.

[1895] The sister -in -law.

[1896] His wife's sister.

[1897] Oh, my gosh.

[1898] Okay.

[1899] This just keeps having layers to it.

[1900] Wow.

[1901] It was amazing.

[1902] Like, I get goosebumps every time I tell this story because it restored a faith in me that I so desperately needed.

[1903] Okay.

[1904] So she helped you walk through the process of your husband, 36 years old, passing, donating his organs, and then she heard you on the air behind and recognized your voice.

[1905] Yeah, she recognized my last name.

[1906] Why, we didn't have your last name on the air.

[1907] Well, no, when they found me, they found me on Facebook to tell me they wanted to help with the house.

[1908] And I had commented on the post that it was me and that, you know, he could reach out to me and his sister -in -law seen my name.

[1909] It was like, oh, I know her.

[1910] And when I talked to Nate, he was like, you know my sister -in -law, Aaron.

[1911] And I was like, I don't think so.

[1912] And he told me how I knew her.

[1913] And I was like, oh, my God, I do know her.

[1914] I do.

[1915] I know her well.

[1916] Wow.

[1917] That is a full circle.

[1918] That's amazing.

[1919] Yeah.

[1920] Okay.

[1921] It was awesome.

[1922] That's wild.

[1923] A lot of intricacy to this generosity.

[1924] It's going everywhere.

[1925] Yeah.

[1948] Hey, well, I'm not sure I can top that one.

[1949] That was pretty, that one's, uh, there's a lot going on there.

[1950] It's not a competition.

[1951] That's okay.

[1952] It's not a competition.

[1953] Mine is, Mama has been October 22.

[1954] My kids all wanted to go to church camp, and it was way more than I could really afford.

[1955] So they were, actually, they started.

[1956] I told them, well, get an envelope, right, can I cook on it, and start saving your money, doing it the day of ramsie way.

[1957] I said, they all did.

[1958] And I said, I'll help me throughout the year.

[1959] we'll come up with ways to save money.

[1960] And how many kids?

[1961] Three.

[1962] Three.

[1963] Three high school kids.

[1964] Okay.

[1965] So they were making decorated sugar cookies to sell at Halloween time.

[1966] And they had sold a ton.

[1967] And so I'd helped him over the weekend.

[1968] And we were delivering cookies, like all Saturday night, Sunday.

[1969] And Sunday at church, a man just came up to me. I was busy talking with someone else.

[1970] And he's like, hey, I stuck something in your Bible.

[1971] And I thought he was paying me for some cookies that he had bought.

[1972] So I didn't even look at it, finished church, went home, started cooking lunch.

[1973] And while I was cooking lunch, I thought, oh, I should get that check out of my Bible before I forget about it, so my kids can count it because they were keeping track of who they've delivered to, who's paid.

[1974] And I opened it up, and it was a check for $5 ,000.

[1975] Oh, my.

[1976] I just, I mean, it makes me cry right now.

[1977] It was enough with what they had already owned and saved.

[1978] completely pay for all of them to go to church camp the next summer.

[1979] Wow.

[1980] So I took it out there and I showed, and I'm like, caught me last for you guys and, like, gave me at church this morning.

[1981] And while I'm crying, they have, like, the biggest smiles on their faces.

[1982] And I'm like, you can go.

[1983] Like, you're going.

[1984] You're going to church camp.

[1985] So I was just, like, overwhelmed with gratitude and just I just can't even explain it or just somebody like giving you a gift like that That's amazing It's a lot of money It is It is a lot of money Yes And I'm living on a teacher salary So that is a lot of money Wow Wow Very cool Very good story Thank you for sharing that Lisa That is amazing It's fun The kids are working towards something And then God says okay I'll help I got you Wow I got this My face hurts for sure this hour, Dave.

[1986] I don't know about you, but my mouth muscles from smiling this much.

[1987] It feels good, and it's definitely inspiring.

[1988] I see why you've held this a tradition on the Ramsey Show.

[1989] Kelly, in California, we encourage our seven -year -old son to think about those that are less fortunate.

[1990] For his birthday, he wanted his friends to bring donations for the Humane Society rather than gifts.

[1991] We included this message in his invitation.

[1992] He ended up collecting an entire cartful of pet toys, food, beds, blankets, the joy he received from giving his gift.

[1993] to the animals is something he continues to talk about.

[1994] I asked him if he wanted to choose another organization this year, and his answer was, this is a hard decision.

[1995] I know that I would really love to get a lot of presents and awesome toys from my friends, but I know I can help more animals or kids than maybe some people.

[1996] So I think I want to help because that feels good.

[1997] Boom, there you go, seven years old.

[1998] It gets it.

[1999] If a seven -year -old can get it, I think any adult can and should.

[2000] Man. Well, it's fun, Dave.

[2001] On the every dollar budget, you have giving right underneath income.

[2002] It's the first line item.

[2003] Was that intentional on your part?

[2004] Well, you're giving for those people that are people of faith like we are.

[2005] It's first fruits.

[2006] It's off the top.

[2007] The first thing you do is tithe.

[2008] The first thing you do is give, offering.

[2009] And before you do anything else.

[2010] It's not leftovers.

[2011] No, it's everything else is left over after the giving.

[2012] Just to kind of get that rhythm in your life to start to build that generosity muscle.

[2013] And the interesting thing is, the more you, do it, like any other habit or character trait, the more refined it becomes, the stronger your generosity muscle gets.

[2014] You're more discerning.

[2015] You're careful.

[2016] And your gifts are more effective.

[2017] And, you know, first time or two, you know, 30 years ago, we started doing this stuff.

[2018] We're a bit sloppy at it.

[2019] But now it's very refined.

[2020] Your heart was there.

[2021] Yeah, but, you know, you look back and you go, that was kind of weird.

[2022] You know, but we did it anyway, right?

[2023] you know, but you really can't mess this up.

[2024] It's impossible to mess it up because somebody on the other side doesn't think you messed it up.

[2025] So, hey, guys, get in gear.

[2026] That's what the season is all about.

[2027] Good reminders.

[2028] The giving portion of what we teach is there.

[2029] And the reason it's number one line item in the budget is to remind, you know, God is the ultimate giver.

[2030] And that's what we're reminded of at Christmas.

[2031] He gave his only begotten son that you might have everlasting life.
