[61] It was February 2020, my senior year of college, and my best friends and I were about to go to St. Lucia for spring break.

[62] So my best friend texts me, and she was like, I really want to go get a bikini wax, but I don't want to go by myself.

[63] Will you go with me?

[64] And I was like, yeah, absolutely.

[65] That sounds like so much fun.

[66] I'm in great shape.

[67] Might as well have a nice wax before our vacation, being bikini ready for the beach and just ready to go.

[68] We schedule our appointments and we go like the next day to the local waxing place and our aestheticians take us back.

[69] I get super chatty when I'm nervous.

[70] Really quick, was this your first waxing experience of your life?

[71] I had my eyebrows waxed.

[109] So she puts her left hand on my stomach to like brace herself and then uses her right hand to pull.

[110] And she pulls and I'm not looking.

[111] And she said, oh my God.

[112] Oh, oh.

[113] She let out an oh my God.

[114] This is the last thing you want to hear.

[115] Oh, no. She says, you didn't tell me. you were pregnant.

[116] I just felt your baby kick.

[117] Oh.

[120] I thought she tore off some labia.

[121] And she said, oh, shit, you didn't tell me you were pregnant.

[122] I just felt your baby kick.

[123] Because her hand was in her bracing.

[124] That's not what I thought this was.

[128] I was confident about my body at this point.

[129] I was, could not have been, like literally impossible unless I was the Virgin Mary.

[157] My abs just tightened, and the way they tightened, they, like, kicked.

[178] But every time that I've gotten a wax since then, I have been like, my first waxing experience was really bad.

[193] They're also trying to make sure the skin is taut.

[295] And then it does seem like maybe there's a resurgence of some hair?

[298] It's not like there's just one thing to do now where it's no hair.

[301] So I used to be an esthetician.

[313] I should also say I haven't been an aesthetician in like 20 years.

[314] So this is a very old story of when I was learning to be an esthetician.

[315] I went to a aesthetic school.

[316] It was called the University of Estetics.

[318] We shared a parking lot with a hooters out and down.

[320] Yeah, the girls would come over sometimes and, like, have stuff done, and, you know, we did facials and things like that, so it wasn't just, you know, ripping hair out left and drive.

[322] I was a new student, and we were learning the Brazilian.

[323] Everybody was doing it.

[324] It was hot.

[325] 2003.

[326] Good fast math there.

[327] Peak years for the Brazilian.

[329] So we had learned to do it in school, and when you're getting your aesthetics license, you have to do a certain number of hours.

[330] I want to say when I went and it was maybe like 500.

[331] Again, this was a long time ago, so I'm sure the laws have changed.

[332] In order to meet those hours, you have to practice, obviously, and at the time, I lived with my sister.

[333] We had this dumpy condo in the south suburbs.

[334] She was game.

[335] Oh, oh, my God.

[336] This is very exactly, yeah.

[337] There's a very ding, ding, ding.

[338] So I will say that I have waxed a number of my friends as well as my sister.

[339] So I feel like some people might think that's weird or it is, but I don't know, It doesn't seem weird to me. Who gives a shit, really?

[341] Now, the way that I learned it originally was with soft wax in the strips.

[342] So what you would, like, normally think of, there are better ways to do a Brazilian.

[344] We don't have to get into that right now.

[345] Hard wax.

[347] What's the difference?

[348] So one of them, it smears on smoothly with, like, a tongue depressor.

[349] Is that what you use?

[350] Yeah.

[351] So you would, like, smear it on with a tongue depressor.

[352] You go with the hair to apply.

[353] Okay.

[354] And then you pull the skin tight and you whip off to go against.

[355] The grain.

[356] Okay.

[360] You got to make sure that skin's tight.

[361] The tighter, the better.

[362] So, as you can imagine, that's very difficult to do with the nether regions.

[363] Yeah, there's so many crevices.

[365] What skin are you going to grab?

[366] That area in general, the skin is meant to expand to my babies out, things like that.

[367] So you're not going to get a real good taut skin situation down there.

[368] So it can be very, very tricky.

[369] Plus, the hair's growing in all different, like, crazy direction.

[370] It's all squaggly.

[372] No, but the hard wax.

[373] Squagely.

[374] Explain the hard wax.

[375] So the hard wax, you don't have to use a strip.

[376] It cools on its own.

[377] And it can be hard.

[378] I think candle wax.

[379] I don't prefer that one.

[380] I used like a softer one that was almost like a putty, kind of like silly putty texture.

[382] But for this particular waxing debacle, it was soft wax with a strip.

[384] So we get everything all set up.

[385] We're going to do this in my sister.

[404] It's at this point that I should probably also tell you that my sister had a cat.

[410] He didn't see her very often.

[411] Anyway, so we're getting down to the nitty -gritty, and I put the wax down.

[412] Right in the sweet spot, I guess you'll want to call it.

[413] I pull the skin as taught as I can.

[414] I rip that.

[416] I ripped that strip off and nothing happens.

[417] The wax does not come off.

[418] It's just this big wad of wax stuck in the hair.

[419] The strip came off.

[420] Right, and left the wax fuck.

[421] But none of the hair or the wax came off.

[422] Obviously, this is quite painful.

[427] You put a little bit more wax on to, like, heat it up again, and then you just go over it.

[442] Notes at this point, and I talked to her yesterday, so there's like a little discrepancy in our stories.

[443] She says that the wax dripped off of the stick and then glued her labia together.

[455] Wait, so, but this isn't, so it's still hurting, even though nothing's coming off.

[456] It's sticking enough to, like, rip the hair and rip the skin, but it's not enough to actually rip it out and remove the wax in their hair.

[457] So now we're getting blood.

[458] Now we're getting more screaming And you only really want to go over an area Just even like a normal area Maybe twice So now we're looking at three times So the wax is still on there Kate's screaming I'm screaming at her like okay Now we're getting desperate measures here Like shut up, it's gonna be fine Stop crying If we have to we can just cut this out It'll be okay Right It'd be like yes we have to Yes I turn my back to get the siblings that fucking cat comes out from under the bed and chooses this moment to jump onto the bed, onto my sister, who is basically spread eagle, but with her parts stuck together, with the sticky patch, the cat jumps up, lands, Kate's screaming again, I'm screaming now, because this cat's here, get the fuck out of here, running, scream and yelling.

[498] But because there's so much on there, I can't just go straight to the solvent.

[499] So I'm like, let me go get the bath going.

[500] Let me get this in some scalding hot water.

[505] My brain wasn't even fully formed yet.

[511] She immediately sits down and adheres herself to the bottom of the tub.

[642] And basically she's like, okay, well, we'll talk to the esthetician and she won't ever wax you again, but next time you come in, it's free.

[902] But because my entire vagina was swollen, everything, the whole front, everything, there was no clear head or anything that I'm going for.

[903] I'm kind of just going and blind because it's swollen and hurts.

[906] And I'm like, okay, let me just try to squeeze the sore area, see what happens.

[907] I squeezed and I felt just bad pain everywhere.

[908] And I was like, I'm going to leave that for a few days.

[915] And so when I'm walking, it's like a constant rubbing.

[946] And so I squeezed and I felt some relief, but instead of it like coming out, it kind of felt like it went in.

[947] And I immediately was like, that's not right.

[948] And we're just going to leave that B and wait a few days.

[949] So I ignored it a few more days.

[950] And at this point, it's very, very swollen.

[951] So the guy I was messing around with at the time, I've told him I'm sick.

[952] got the flu, you know, you can't come over.

[953] And now I've spiked a fever.

[954] You have a fever.

[955] Uh -oh.

[956] And I'm like, okay, maybe it's just a coincidence.

[957] It can't be related, right?

[958] So I'm taking a bunch of meds, hoping I can level the fever out.

[959] And after about like six hours of being at a fever around like 102, 103, I mean high fever.

[960] I call my sister and I'm like, can you please bring me to the ER?

[961] I can't even drive.

[962] And I haven't told her about the waxing thing.

[963] As far as she knows, I just have a fever.

[965] I'm embarrassed and ashamed and I'm like, everyone needs to think that my snatch is perfect.

[967] I can't have word out on the street being you got rushed to the ER to deal with your swollen vagina.

[969] So we get there and I tell the doctor, hey, I've got a fever.

[970] Also not telling the doctor.

[971] Oh, no. I know.

[972] So bad.

[973] Again, I see you.

[974] They're running all of these tests.

[975] They're like, we can't figure it out.

[976] And I'm like, that's so weird.

[977] Why can't we get this figured out.

[978] So after probably three or four hours, they're about to discharge me. And I'm like, okay, we need to let them know what's going on because nothing's going to get better.

[979] So I go and I use the bathroom.

[980] I think they requested like a pea sample or something, but I ended up using the bathroom and made eye contact with it again and was like, okay, enough enough.

[981] We have to tell them.

[982] Yeah.

[983] So I get back in there and I'm like, just want to let you guys know, you know, there's this other issue going on.

[984] And the doctor kind of looks at me like, are you fucking kidding me, we've been here for four out.

[985] Yes.

[986] I show her and she's like, okay, well, that's very obviously what's causing the issue here.

[987] We need to lance this immediately.

[988] Wow.

[989] And so she did give me like a couple injections to kind of like numb it a little bit but it barely numbed it and went on into slicing and it was probably about a three inch slice.

[990] And when I tell you the nastiest of nasty shit that came out.

[991] No. But did you love it?

[992] No, I was like screaming It was horrible.

[993] If it was on anybody else, I would have been the one like, let me help, let me get in there, but not on myself.

[994] It was so painful.

[995] And it was a mix of like pussy blood.

[996] They were like, everything's really swollen.

[997] We think we got everything out because it was such a big incision.

[998] They're like, what we're going to do is what was open there.

[999] They packed it with gauze that was like soaked in iodine to help keep cleaning it out and so that it could continue to drain and that I should come back in a few days, get it checked back out, Let's see what's going on.

[1000] So I leave there feeling pretty good.

[1001] Optimistic.

[1003] Couple days go by.

[1004] I fucked an hour later.

[1005] Thankfully, I was like, okay, there will be no sex at this point.

[1006] So it starts getting really swollen, kind of slightly lower, maybe like an inch lower from the area they'd already cut into.

[1007] And I'm like, okay, they definitely didn't get it all out.

[1008] So I go back to this same ER and I walk in, there's like so many people.

[1009] their systems were down.

[1010] And so they're like, it's going to be 18 hours.

[1011] We've got a lot of hospitals in our area.

[1012] So they're like, you should go to the one up the street.

[1013] Well, the one up the street, everybody knows is like the hospital you don't really go to unless.

[1014] You've been shot in the shoulder area.

[1015] Not the good hospital.

[1016] But at this point, I'm desperate.

[1017] I'm like, I already know the issue.

[1018] I don't need you to diagnose me. Like, I'll tell you the problem.

[1019] Just cut into me and get it out.

[1023] So I get to the second hospital.

[1024] And this one's different in that at the first E. I was at the nicer hospital.

[1028] This other hospital, everyone's kind of in the same area and you just have that curtain.

[1029] Yeah, and you can hear everyone talking.

[1031] And so this doctor probably was overwhelmed because they were getting all of the patients that were overflowing from the other one.

[1032] But he was just pissed from the beginning and he wanted like nothing to do with my situation.

[1033] So I tell him what's going on and he's like, okay, we'll cut him to it.

[1034] Didn't give me any type of numbing of anything.

[1035] things starts cutting into me and I'm like, fuck, I'm screaming and he stops mid -cut and is like, do you have kids?

[1036] Do you talk to your kids that way?

[1037] You won't scream like that in my hospital.

[1039] He's getting paternal on you.

[1040] So I just start crying.

[1046] I've got these massive cuts and cross it.

[1051] And are you on like a horse dose of antibiotics as well?

[1054] Because they were fearful that the infection was like going to get in to the bloodstream and everything.

[1055] Well, if you had a fever, it was starting.

[1056] So at that point, that was the last with ER visits.

[1057] But I did have to go back and get the gauze removed and repacked.

[1058] And so I go back to work.

[1059] You know, I'm limping around with my sprained ankle.

[1060] And the gauze is all packed in.

[1061] So it's not only packed in, but then like I keep a piece.

[1062] of gauze on the face of it just so that there's no irritation.

[1063] So I go to use the bathroom at work, and I guess at some point during the day that piece must have slipped down because I go to pull down my underwear.

[1064] Oh, no, and it's stuck.

[1065] And the gauze caught on the underwear, the gauze that was inside.

[1066] And so it just like ripped.

[1067] No. Oh, and I was pretty close with my boss, Heather at the time.

[1068] She was our HR manager, and I'm like, Heather, I've been telling a lot.
