[1] It's Tuesday, February 14th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] The suspect in this case was located at approximately 1135 p .m. in the city of Lansing.
[3] The suspect is deceased due to a self -inflicted gunshot wound.
[4] Michigan law enforcement officials released details about the 43 -year -old suspected gunmen who fatally shot three students and wounded five at Michigan State University on Monday.
[5] Police say the suspect's motive remains unclear.
[6] A witness who was in a classroom entered by the shooter recalls when he first heard gunshots.
[7] I was sitting right next to the door where he came in, literally one of the first two seats, he came in.
[8] And I thank God my fighter flight response kicked in because I booked it to the far side of the class and ducked down.
[9] And he came in and shot three to four times in our classroom.
[10] According to Sparrow Hospital, the wounded students remained in critical condition this morning.
[11] Former United Nations Ambassador and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley officially announced her candidacy for the 2024 presidential election Tuesday morning.

[15] Haley is now the only other candidate declared in the GOP field, alongside her old boss, former President Trump.
[16] The Consumer Price Index rose 6 .4%, higher than economists expected, between January of 2022 and January of 2023, as price pressure from household staples, such as food and shelter, remains elevated.
[17] The month -to -month increase of 0 .5 % exceeded analysts' forecasts of 0 .1%, while core inflation, which factors out more volatile food and energy categories rose 0 .4%, also surpassing expectations.
[18] Food prices increased 0 .5 % and shelter prices increased 0 .7%, even as energy prices rose 2%.
[19] Speaking of inflation, a new survey details how some of your typical Valentine's Day favorites are breaking hearts and wallets this year.
[20] According to the survey by the platform Trust Pilot, instead of paying for the usual chocolates and dinners, Nearly half of Americans reported plans to put what would have been their Valentine's Day spending toward living expenses.
[21] If you're looking to get your significant other, a heart -shaped box of chocolate, you'll be paying 12 % more than last year.
[22] The survey also shows that the average dinner date will cost 8 % more.
[23] Former Vice President Mike Pence will fight the DOJ's special counsel subpoena in the investigation into whether President Trump tried to overturn the 2020 election.
[24] Pence argues that since he was president of the Senate at the time of the Senate, the incident.
[25] He is protected by the Constitution's speech or debate clause.
[26] House Speaker Kevin McCarthy will lead a House delegation to the Cochise County, Arizona area of the southern border on Thursday.
[27] Before other members of Congress joining him are Republican representatives from Arizona, Oregon, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
[28] McCarthy's office says he and his colleagues will take an aerial tour of the area with border agents.
[29] U .S. General Mark Millie announced Tuesday morning that the first two F -16 fighter jet missiles fired at the unidentified object over Lake Huron on Sunday, actually missed the object, but, quote, landed harmlessly in the water.
[30] We tracked it all the way down, and we made sure that the airspace was clear of any commercial or civilian or recreational traffic.
[31] We do the same thing for the maritime space, so we're very, very careful to make sure that those shots are in fact safe, and that's the guidance from the president.
[32] Shoot it down to make sure we minimize collateral damage and we preserve the safety of the American people.
[33] Four lawsuits have been filed against North Carolina.
[34] Norfolk Southern, which operates the train that derailed in Ohio on February 3rd.
[35] The lawsuits are blaming the crash on negligence and are demanding payments for health screenings and treatments due to the toxic chemicals released in the area.
[36] Officials will hold a town hall meeting on Wednesday to answer questions from residents, many of whom are still concerned about the safety of the water and air.
[37] California Democratic Senator Diane Feinstein announced Tuesday that she will not seek re -election in 2024.
[38] She said in a statement she intends to accomplish as much for California as she can through the end of next year when her term ends.
[39] She first took office in 1992 after defeating Republican John Seymour, who had previously held the office.
