[5] It's Monday, April 8th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[6] Former President Trump made an 11th hour deal today in hopes of delaying his hush money trial.
[7] Lawyers for the former president filed papers at the state appellate.
[8] division, asking that the trial be pushed back while Trump challenges a partial gag order against him.
[9] They're also seeking a change in venue, arguing that Manhattan would be unfair because of potential jury bias.
[10] This all comes one week before Trump's criminal trial.
[11] President Biden announced today a new revised plan aimed at canceling student debt.
[12] Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has more.
[13] During a visit to Wisconsin, the president said this action would cancel runaway interest for borrowers and pullback on debt for people who are eligible for but not yet participating in certain forgiveness programs.
[14] These programs include borrowers who work in public service and have been paying off loans for 10 years or more, borrowers who began paying off loans at least 20 years ago, and borrowers currently experiencing hardship that prevent them from making payments.
[15] According to the White House, the plan in combination with previous debt relief action would relieve the debts of over 30 million Americans.
[16] Here's the president.
[17] I will never stop to deliver student debt relief and hardworking Americans, and it's only in the interest of America that we do it.
[18] And again, it's for the good of our economy.
[19] It's growing stronger and stronger, and it is.
[20] By freeing millions of Americans from this crushing debt of student debt, it means they can finally get on with their lives.
[21] Administration officials say they don't believe the new plans will contribute to inflation, even though the president's last plan was estimated at $400 billion by the nonpartisan.
[22] and Congressional Budget Office.
[23] The Biden administration announced today that it's offered the world's biggest microchip manufacturer, the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, up to $6 .6 billion to build factories in Arizona, a move that comes as President Biden pushes for chip security.
[24] The company is set to build three plants in the Phoenix area, investing some $65 billion into the project.
[25] U .S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Romando said at a press conference, that the, quote, huge partnership with TSM will bring production of the world's most advanced chips to American soil.
[26] Former President Trump issued his long -awaited official stance on abortion policy today, and it's prompted both praise and criticism.
[27] After suggesting that he might consider endorsing a 15 -week national abortion limit, Trump said Monday that he believes the question of abortion should remain an issue decided on at the state level, not by the federal government.
[28] My view is now that we have abortion where everybody wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or legislation or perhaps both, and whatever they decide must be the law of the land, in this case, the law of the state.
[29] This is all about the will of the people.
[30] You must follow your heart or, in many cases, your religion or your faith.
[31] But remember, you must also win elections to restore our culture and, in fact, to save our our country.
[32] The Vatican has reaffirmed its stance on transgenderism and gender theory in an official document published today.
[33] In the document, the church says that sex change procedures threaten the unique dignity of a person and warns against the age -old temptation to make oneself.
[34] It was signed by the Pope himself.
[35] The Vatican says biological sex and gender, the sociocultural role of sex can be, quote, distinguished but not separated.
[36] On the sex change procedures in particular, the Fatican reminded readers that we are called to, quote, protect our humanity, which means respecting it as it was created.
[37] The document also reaffirms the church's opposition to surrogacy, abortion, and euthanasia.
[38] Country music star Morgan Wallen was arrested early this morning after throwing a chair from a rooftop bar in Nashville.
[39] Police say this happened at country singer Eric Church's new bar chiefs and that the chair happened to land near two police officers.
[40] 30 -year -old Wallin was booked on charges of reckless endangerment.
[41] Video footage shows Wallin lunging and throwing an object over the roof.
[42] Jail records show his bond was set at $15 ,250.
[43] Marvel star Jonathan Majors avoided jail time and was instead sentenced to probation after being convicted in December of assaulting his ex -girlfriend.
[44] At his sentencing, his ex told the court that the actor refuses to acknowledge his guilt and remains a danger to those around him.
[45] Majors was also ordered to complete a batterer's intervention program, and he must continue with mental health therapy.
