Morning Wire XX
[0] I'm Daily Wire, Editor -in -Chief John Bickley with Georgia Howe.
[1] It's Thursday, December 14th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] The U .S. House of Representatives put their support behind a defense policy bill today, sending it to President Biden's desk.
[3] The record $886 billion bill authorizes aid for Ukraine as well as more resources to push back on the Chinese presence in the Indo -Pacific.
[4] Apart from the National Defense Authorization Act, Congress also approved a $5 ,000, 5 .4 % raise for military servicemen, the largest they've received in over a decade.
[5] Some Republicans in the House, like Representative Chip Roy, have reservations about various social programs included in the bill.
[6] A vote for this bill is not just a bill for pay raises and support for our men and women in uniform.
[7] A vote for this bill is a perpetuation of the woke policies undermining our military, breaking down morale, driving down recruiting, and now undermining the civil liberties of the American people by not reforming FISA.
[8] The Democrat -controlled Senate backed the NDA on Wednesday with a vote of 87 to 13.
[9] A federal judge is pausing the trial of Donald Trump regarding charges of election interference as an appeals court weighs the former president's claim to prosecutorial immunity.
[10] The U .S. Court of Appeals for the D .C. Circuit has said it will expedite the process in order to reach a ruling by March when the trial is set to begin.
[11] Due to the aggressive nature of the schedule, the appeals court set out, all written files.
[12] must be submitted by January 2nd.
[13] Seven people were arrested in Denmark today for allegedly planning what Israeli officials called a terror attack.
[14] Officials say that Danish agencies, through a coordinated international effort, exposed Hamas infrastructure on European soil and arrested suspects in Denmark and the Netherlands on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack.
[15] The House overwhelmingly passed a resolution on Wednesday condemning anti -Semitism and the much criticized testimony of three university presidents on the issue.
[16] Daily Wire Senior Editor Cabot Phillips has more.
[17] The resolution specifically criticized Harvard President Claudine Gay, MIT President Sally Cornbluth, and UPenn's now former president, Liz McGill, for dodging the question of whether calling for the genocide of Jews on campuses violated their school's policies.
[18] 303 members voted in support of the measure, 126 voted against it, while three voted present and two others did not vote.
[19] Of the 126 members in opposition, 125 were Democrats, while Kentucky's Thomas Massey was the lone Republican.
[20] Republican Elise Stefonic, who had grilled the presidents and introduced the measure, celebrated its passage with her Republican colleagues as a, quote, historic bipartisan effort to stand for moral truth.
[21] House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said all three university presidents were asked what should have been a very simple question.
[22] And yet you saw the moral bankruptcy and the failure of those college presidents to answer that basic question.
[23] got over a billion impressions globally.
[24] And I think alarmed and shocked people all across the world, not just here in America.
[25] We've exposed anti -Semitism and called it out for what it is.
[26] And we will continue to do that as well.
[27] The Ohio State Senate approved a multifaceted bill on Wednesday banning transgender medical treatments for minors and barring male athletes from competing in girls and women's sports.
[28] Daily Wire senior editor, Joel Needler, reports.
[29] The GOP Majority Statehouse agreed to some Senate, changes to the bill before sending it to Ohio Governor Mike DeWine's desk.
[30] A spokesperson for the governor said that he would not comment on the bill until he has read it through thoroughly, though the governor has previously expressed doubts about sports restrictions and said that the decision should be left up to individual sports organizations.
[31] Under the bill, things like puberty blockers for minors would be prohibited.
[32] The legislation would also require schools to designate separate teams for male and female sexes explicitly banning males from participating in girls and women's sports.
[33] Republican Senate President Matt Huffman says the majority of Ohioans agree with this legislation.
[34] We don't make laws just for the hundreds of people that come and testify.
[35] We make laws for over 11 million people.
[36] Boston's Democratic Mayor Michelle Wu has apologized for any offense caused after sending out a holiday party invitation for, quote, electeds of color to everyone.
[37] The mayor also defended the idea after fielding heavy criticism.
[38] Wu said Wednesday that white city council members were not meant to receive the invites, which were all revoked soon after being sent.
[39] According to local news outlets, the minority -only holiday party continued as planned on Wednesday.
[40] Wu's office plans to host a party for all elected officials and cabinet members on a different day.
[41] I think we've had individual conversations with everyone so people understand that it was truly just an honest mistake that went out in typing the email field.
[42] And I look forward to celebrating with everyone at the holiday parties that we will have besides this one as well.
[43] So it is my intention that we can, again, be a city that lives our values and create space for all kinds of communities to come together.
[44] And an Australian woman has been arrested and charged over two weeks after stealing a truck full of donuts from a gas station.
[45] Police in New South Wales, Australia, say they responded to a call at a service station on November 20.
[46] where they were told that an unknown woman allegedly stole a truck full of donuts.
[47] The vehicle went missing for nearly 10 days before being located in a parking lot.
[48] The 28 -year -old female suspect was arrested the next day at a railway station approximately 20 miles from where the theft took place.
[49] According to police, all of the donuts in the truck were destroyed.
