Giant Bombcast XX
[0] Tuesday, January the 11th, 2011.
[1] A little 011111.
[2] Right?
[3] Enjoy it.
[4] Am I right?
[5] Binary.
[6] This is the Giant Bombcast.
[7] I'm Ryan Davis.
[8] Those pipes you're hearing, those golden pipes right there belong to one Mr. Vinny Caravella.
[9] There's a two in there.
[10] This is 2011, so it's broken.
[11] But a two is just two ones.
[12] So it's 1101111.
[13] 101.
[14] I'm going to go home for another week.
[15] I'll see you guys.
[16] Jeff Gerstman, back in the house.
[17] Not since 2010, not since the old days have we seen you.
[18] Yeah.
[19] Cyborg.
[20] How is Jeff?
[21] Yes.
[22] What are things like in the future, Jeff?
[23] In the future, you wake up around 1 p .m. 1 -1.
[24] No. That's the past.
[25] Oh, man. No more stand -up till 5, waking up at 1, and then going go -karting.
[26] I got pretty good at go -karting.
[27] Yeah.
[28] Where are you go -karting?
[29] I was at an indoor place up behind the Outback Steakhouse.
[30] That sounds like a fun day.
[31] It used to be the linens and things.
[32] Formerly the linens and things.
[33] Now a go -kart track.
[34] It used to be a subpar Bed Bath & Beyond knockoff.
[35] Dirt track or pavement?
[36] Not even pavement.
[37] It's indoor.
[38] Slick track.
[39] It's not even slick track.
[40] It's like a warehouse.
[41] It's like concrete floors.
[42] Yeah, smooth.
[43] And they're all gas powered, right?
[44] I don't know.
[45] Did they move?
[46] Yeah, they went pretty fast.
[47] Did you drift?
[48] I did.
[49] I also spun out a couple of times.
[50] So that's what happens when you try and drift.
[51] Do you have to wear a helmet?
[52] Yeah, you do.
[53] They make you buy a head sock.
[54] which is like this black rag that you put over your head first.
[55] Not quite a full do -rag.
[56] I was going to say, just like a do -rag then?
[57] Kind of look like a hood.
[58] Kind of look a little bad there.
[59] Like a little clanny?
[60] Kind of a little bit.
[61] It doesn't cover your face.
[62] Oh, so you can't rob a bank with it.
[63] No, you cannot rob a bank.
[64] You can wear it backwards, but then you'd have to cut eye holes.
[65] I don't see where this plan can go wrong.
[66] And that's Brad Shoemaker rounding out the quartet.
[67] In your go -kart.
[68] Let's get the hell out of there.
[69] Brad, you have much go -kart experience?
[70] I don't think I've ever been in a go -kart.
[71] Really?
[72] Yeah.
[73] Is that really so shocking?
[74] I guess, because I spent my youth basically in a go -kart.
[75] I figured down south there must be tracks littered.
[76] I think I've done bumper cars before.
[77] And I figured the love of the NASCAR, that kind of...
[78] I don't actually love NASCAR.
[79] There are people that go -kart race professionally in ridiculous go -karts.
[80] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[81] That's too far gone.
[82] These were not those.
[83] Yeah, those are almost just like...
[84] poor safety cars at a certain point.
[85] Yeah, you're going like 60 miles an hour around a go -kart track.
[86] How many cc's you got in that thing?
[87] Not enough.
[88] That's always the answer to that question.
[89] More of them.
[90] Go -kart's fun.
[91] Go -karts are fun.
[92] They're so short.
[93] So is talking in rooms.
[94] Yeah.
[95] Padded rooms.
[96] Padded rooms.
[97] Baffled rooms.
[98] How do you feel about this baffling?
[99] I'm baffled.
[100] If this podcast sounds way different.
[101] Confounding, in the words of Brad Shoemaker.
[102] It looks a little less institutional in here now.
[103] Yeah.
[104] It looks a little bit less like South American tyrannical regime's kill room.
[105] Now a little more padded insane asylum.
[106] Yeah, okay.
[107] You wouldn't have white walls in your kill room.
[108] Point one.
[109] Point two, you're going to need a drain in the center of the floor, not this carpet shit.
[110] Wouldn't you want white rooms in your kill room?
[111] I absolutely would want.
[112] shit out of anybody who has to go in there.
[113] I'm going to say that if you're bound to a chair, that concrete walls and a drain in the middle of the floor, that's pretty scary too.
[114] Yeah, but imagine if the walls were just white paper with just like red and gook all on them.
[115] Well, then this room does not look like that.
[116] Or if they just looked like they'd been freshly painted.
[117] Okay.
[118] All right, I'm back on board with the white kill room.
[119] Regardless, it looks less like any of those things in this room because we put up a little bit of sound dampening material.
[120] Magic.
[121] Some of it magically adhered to the walls.
[122] I don't think we're even sure of the physics that are causing some of these things to stay where they are.
[123] Only a couple of these are actually secure.
[124] We're grateful for it.
[125] Well, when the earthquake comes.
[126] We had one.
[127] We had one.
[128] Friday there was an earthquake during the Friday.
[129] Live show.
[130] I was watching your live show on Friday.
[131] There was an earthquake while we were doing that.
[132] I heard that happen and went, what?
[133] No. And we looked at it.
[134] So you guys made the earth move.
[135] We did.
[136] I only saw Ethan screaming and running out of the building.
[137] That was pretty funny.
[138] I wasn't sure what was going on.
[139] I thought that was just for our benefit.
[140] No, I think he was.
[141] And then afterwards, people in the chat were like, there was an earthquake.
[142] I just heard him.
[143] I'm not going to die down here.
[144] And then what?
[145] Actually, he is.
[146] He doesn't know that yet.
[147] I just painted the walls.
[148] Yeah.
[149] Fresh coat of paint.
[150] 4 .1, A2 Shabby, right?
[151] I mean, it's not, you know, it's not killer.
[152] But it's one that you can totally miss. Yeah.
[153] 4 .1, you can totally just like, I was walking down the street and didn't notice that there was an earthquake.
[154] Yeah, some people up where I was at claim that they felt it.
[155] I did not.
[156] All right, there you go.
[157] There's Earthquake Talk for 2011.
[158] All right, see you next week.
[159] See you guys.
[160] We could also talk about games.
[161] We've thus far talked about go -kart, go -kart racing, and earthquakes, and kill rooms, and baffling.
[162] Anything else you want to add?
[163] Now, make one game that features all these things go.
[164] That's my GDC talk this year.
[165] Love it.
[166] Vinnie Caravella.
[167] Hey, man. Ready to talk about Predators?
[168] Let's talk about Predators.
[169] It's okay.
[170] That was all right.
[171] That's all right.
[172] I enjoyed it.
[173] That's all I want to say.
[174] It opened strong.
[175] Yeah.
[176] It opened real strong.
[177] It was like Wolverine, like X -Men Wolverine.
[178] Yeah, it's just the free fall.
[179] You're like, oh, fuck.
[180] Oh, fuck.
[181] Is that really Adrian Brody?
[182] Yeah, yeah.
[183] So knowing next to nothing about the cast of that movie, is he the heavy?
[184] He is the...
[185] He's Arnold Schwarzenegger.
[186] He's the Arnold Schwarzenegger, right?
[187] He's the mean guy.
[188] I don't know that I can accept that.
[189] He pulls it off.
[190] He pulls it off better than you would expect.
[191] Yeah, better than you'd expect.
[192] That's about as much as...
[193] I will say this about Predators.
[194] Better than Predator 2.
[195] Danny Glover?
[196] Yeah.
[197] That wasn't a...
[198] I don't even know what that was.
[199] It was like a crime drama with the Predators.
[200] So I'm just saying.
[201] Better than Predator 2.
[202] Who was...
[203] Bill Paxton was in Predator 2?
[204] I was trying to think of the military.
[205] Who were the military dudes?
[206] There were no military dudes.
[207] Well, like the secret service, the dude who tried to hunt the Predators that are working against Danny Glover.
[208] I recall nothing other than this.
[209] You've reached the limits of my knowledge about Predator 2 because I don't remember anything about Predator 2 other than Danny Glover was in it.
[210] I remember Danny Glover was in it, and then I didn't like it.
[211] Those are the two things.
[212] Bill Paxton with the mustache is in it.
[213] Gary Busey is in it.
[214] Yeah, these guys are all like special ops guys, aren't they?
[215] No, they were all just like his cop team.
[216] I don't remember.
[217] And I remember there was a subway sequence and then the Predator didn't kill a lady because she was pregnant.
[218] That's not how Predators roll.
[219] What?
[220] Oh, yeah.
[221] Fuck that movie.
[222] What the hell?
[223] Predators do Code of Honor.
[224] That's how Predators roll.
[225] They're not going to kill a pregnant lady.
[226] They're Klingons before the universal translator got invented.
[227] Whatever.
[228] They have their codes.
[229] They would have ripped out that little baby spine and put it on a wall.
[230] It's just like with hunters.
[231] You want an adult prey.
[232] You're in it for the hunt.
[233] Yes.
[234] Not for the taste.
[235] So it's not like veal?
[236] No, I mean all they take is a trophy.
[237] They're ripping out skulls.
[238] Can't rip out a baby skull like that.
[239] Well, you can.
[240] It would just kind of get all squishy.
[241] That's gross.
[242] It's very malleable.
[243] Also, the predator physics of being able to rip the base of a skull or a spine attached to the skull in one clean stroke is pretty amazing.
[244] They're really good.
[245] Works for Sub -Zero.
[246] I know some ninjas who can pull that off.
[247] But he rips from the top down, right?
[248] It's more believable to me if you start at the neck.
[249] He kind of grabs the top of the head.
[250] In Predators, he starts from the base of the spine, it seems like, and skull comes out from the bottom.
[251] You start at either end.
[252] It's like peeling a banana.
[253] One end's easier than the other, but you can do it either way.
[254] I don't know.
[255] There's no tension to stop the spine from snapping or popping or it just all comes out clean.
[256] We're going to have to test this.
[257] Others have ripped out many human spines.
[258] Spines of other types of animals.
[259] Get the kill room ready.
[260] We'll find out.
[261] I just think of all the failures.
[262] All right, try it again.
[263] I just can't.
[264] Fuck.
[265] Keep pulling.
[266] Just put it back in.
[267] I got it halfway.
[268] Anyway, that movie's weird.
[269] To get your Predator Hunters license, you have to be able to cleanly rip the skull and spine.
[270] That's it.
[271] It's like gutting a fish.
[272] It's just one of those things.
[273] Your Predator dad teaches you how to do when you're young.
[274] Or you just pay Sega $5 a month.
[275] And they'll give you your Hunter's license.
[276] The Predators present the same quandary to me that the Klingons do or the Krogans do, which is can you envision any other role in Predator society other than Hunter?
[277] Besides what you see?
[278] So I was thinking hard about that with the Predators specifically.
[279] Like what is a Predator housewife like?
[280] Because the Predators are so fucking savage, right?
[281] But they have all of this high -tech shit.
[282] I know, yeah.
[283] I can't imagine Predator IT, but there has to be Predator IT.
[284] There has to be a dude who's like, ah, fuck, my wrist explodey thing is on the fritz.
[285] They just all know that shit and they fix it themselves.
[286] Well, where is the Predator R &D and lab coats that are making the stuff in the first place?
[287] I always imagine that they've enslaved some raids or something.
[288] The best hunters have become their elders.
[289] Somebody find a picture of a Predator in a lab coat.
[290] There's some fucking bullshit comic book.
[291] Dark Horse Comics put this out in 85, guys.
[292] Fucking dumbass.
[293] Just a Predator with glasses.
[294] What are you, stupid?
[295] Well, I want to know.
[296] These are questions that I want answers to.
[297] So if you are Dark Horse Comics, give us a call.
[298] Let's talk Predators.
[299] Hey, you're listening to Predators.
[300] This is K -Pred.
[301] You're on the air.
[302] Yeah.
[303] Vinny.
[304] Games.
[305] I'm not going to talk to you first.
[306] All right.
[307] Because I talked to you last week.
[308] All right.
[309] I haven't talked to Jeff on the podcast in a really long time.
[310] Jeff Gerstman.
[311] Hello.
[312] Hi.
[313] You took an additional week.
[314] Yeah.
[315] Took a little bit more of a knee.
[316] I did.
[317] And now you're back.
[318] Yeah.
[319] That was cool.
[320] Hey.
[321] How was your break?
[322] It was good.
[323] I don't know.
[324] Did you do anything fun?
[325] I went and raced to go -karts.
[326] Go -kart racing.
[327] Did you go to the Outback after?
[328] No. No, I went somewhere else for lunch.
[329] You don't go to Stegas for lunch.
[330] Does that one open before 4?
[331] Yeah, I don't know that.
[332] It might not have been open even.
[333] Went to the El Pollo Loco.
[334] No, that would have been the best move.
[335] That would have been great also.
[336] But it did not work out like that for us.
[337] Yeah, I don't know.
[338] The first week off, I did kind of the regular Christmas stuff of sit around and do nothing and then see family at one point and be annoyed that I had to stop sitting around and doing nothing to go see family, which then made that second week of sitting around and doing nothing that much sweeter.
[339] Oh, sure.
[340] Uninterrupted.
[341] Uninterrupted.
[342] Uncut.
[343] No, I don't know.
[344] There's a lot of stuff around the house that had to get done, and I eventually got to that point where it's like, I'm going to do one thing a day just so I don't feel like this time is just completely slipping away.
[345] Today I went to the hardware store and bought light bulbs.
[346] It got to that point, so it was pretty awesome.
[347] Rat genocide.
[348] Yeah, a little bit of some rodents got taken care of.
[349] Got theirs.
[350] They got theirs, yeah.
[351] Mouschwitz.
[352] Absolutely.
[353] Yeah.
[354] That was too much.
[355] Jeff, tell me about games.
[356] Did you play any video games?
[357] Yeah, kind of.
[358] I don't know.
[359] Sure.
[360] Tell me about fucking Lair of the Shadow Broker.
[361] Yeah, I played all the Mass Effect 2 DLC.
[362] What are there?
[363] Three of those?
[364] The only stuff I had played up to that point was like Normandy Crash Site and Zahid or whatever.
[365] The day one stuff.
[366] So when they went on sale at one point over the break, all that stuff went on sale for like 200 points of pop.
[367] $250 each.
[368] I just bought all of it at that point.
[369] I was a little pissed at how cheap they made it all.
[370] And then worked my way through it.
[371] Did like the Hammerhead thing, which I guess was free.
[372] Firewalker.
[373] Firewalker.
[374] That's what I meant.
[375] Yeah.
[376] And then played through Overlord, which I really liked, and Shadow Broker, which is all right.
[377] Terrific.
[378] I think Overlord's better.
[379] Vinny thinks of your rundown here.
[380] Oh!
[381] Oh!
[382] Those yawners over here, huh?
[383] I totally think start to finish that Overlord is more solid.
[384] Yeah, I disagree.
[385] I thought the vehicle stuff was well implemented there.
[386] The end of Shadow Broker is probably...
[387] The end of Shadow Broker is amazing.
[388] I thought that the reveal of, hey, I'm the Shadow Broker was not...
[389] I like that part.
[390] I didn't love it.
[391] I just hated that he was a giant monster.
[392] Can't he just be an information broker and that's it?
[393] That's everything.
[394] They justify it well.
[395] See, I like that because I feel like it's, I think that's the expectation.
[396] I feel like by making him a giant monster, like, yeah, it's the obvious thing from the gameplay perspective, but from the fictional perspective, you would expect the Shadow Broker to either be a spindly little fucking alien, some old dude, or like an AI.
[397] You wouldn't expect a big crazy monster.
[398] So I think that they turned that on its head a little bit there.
[399] But then you just get into the cliched boss fight of having the giant thing charge you.
[400] That's what that guy knows.
[401] Don't hate him.
[402] You're not wrong.
[403] It's not the strongest part of that DLC.
[404] But we're not here to fucking argue about that stuff anymore.
[405] Fuck you guys.
[406] Jeff had his feelings about it, and that's fine.
[407] In short, I should have fought harder for Borderlands DLC.
[408] If that's what y 'all are calling the best, then apparently standards for DLC are low.
[409] That's what I'd call the best.
[410] Anything you'd call it comparable.
[411] Anyway.
[412] Tell me about World of Kathleen's.
[413] Yeah, so then at one point, what was that?
[414] Was that Christmas Day?
[415] That was Christmas Day.
[416] Priorities.
[417] We need to make a world.
[418] Yeah, Vinny and I made the world.
[419] Basically played through World of Keflings start to finish in one sitting.
[420] Jesus.
[421] I didn't realize that was a game that you could play four hours probably.
[422] Yeah, probably about four hours.
[423] Because I feel like I spent that much time in Kingdom and still completely lost.
[424] That thing is not a game.
[425] The first Keflings game was just like this loose framework of schematics.
[426] That's exactly what this is.
[427] There's a tech tree and you ascend it and then it's...
[428] You win.
[429] Well, this, from what I saw, seemed a lot more directed.
[430] It is incredibly directed.
[431] You hit the button and bring up the tech tree, and it says, all right, you need to do this.
[432] Here's the next thing you should build so you can build the next three things.
[433] And then there's a little cufflink that will be like, you should build this for me. I'll give you the blueprint.
[434] So then when you build everything, are you done?
[435] You got a rocking chair, and then you're dead.
[436] All spoilers for the end of World of Keflin.
[437] We showed the ending.
[438] Jesus Christ.
[439] Seriously.
[440] What the fuck is wrong with you people?
[441] The rocking chair.
[442] Yeah.
[443] So, yeah, you could keep playing, and there's, like, achievements for build 100 buildings, which is insane.
[444] Yeah, I mean, like, it's well made and well done, but there's no adversity in it at all.
[445] It really is this perfect, just like, I have nothing to do today, so I'm going to get online with a friend of mine, and we're going to build stuff.
[446] If I had known that there was absolutely zero payoff at the end of that game, I might not have sat there with you for four hours playing it.
[447] I don't know.
[448] It's just kind of a happy idea.
[449] I mean, I started it over the weekend and not even through the tutorial.
[450] Like, oh, this is way too much like Kingdom of Keflings.
[451] No, I'm out.
[452] I'm out.
[453] Do we need sticks?
[454] We need more sticks.
[455] It's not the destination, Jeff.
[456] It's the journey.
[457] That's right.
[458] Well, the journey is not particularly great either.
[459] It's nice that they named the first two brothers Bob and Doug.
[460] And you're like, oh, yeah.
[461] I could be watching SCTV right now.
[462] There's a lot of Canadian language jokes in there.
[463] And Strange Brew is available on streaming for Netflix.
[464] So great.
[465] Watch that twice.
[466] Do that instead.
[467] Max von Sydow.
[468] Back to back.
[469] And Max von Sydow is going to be in Skyrim.
[470] There you go.
[471] But who's not in Skyrim is Mel Blanc.
[472] So advantage Strange Brew.
[473] Good point.
[474] Strange Brew is better than the next Elder Scrolls game.
[475] Good point.
[476] Mel Blanc's in Strange Brew?
[477] Yeah.
[478] His voice.
[479] You see the voice of the mouse in the bottle?
[480] He's the voice of their dad.
[481] Their dad.
[482] Oh, really?
[483] Yeah.
[484] Isn't it Blanc?
[485] I always thought it was Blanc.
[486] I don't want to chime in.
[487] If you're a piece of shit.
[488] I did a report on Mel Blanc.
[489] Blanc.
[490] Blanc.
[491] Mel Blanc makes him sound like a snooty asshole.
[492] Now I'm kind of confused.
[493] Yeah, I don't like that at all.
[494] I don't know who this Mel Blanc is.
[495] Mel Blanc.
[496] Mel Blanc only eats cream sauces.
[497] Well, he does Pepe Le Pew as well.
[498] I guess that makes sense.
[499] I started to dress up.
[500] The only time that you can call him Mel Blanc is if you were speaking about Pepe Le Pew.
[501] Oral report.
[502] What kind?
[503] Oral report.
[504] It's like for ears?
[505] Oral.
[506] Report.
[507] About Mel Blanc?
[508] Yep.
[509] What do you have to say about him?
[510] I don't remember.
[511] He hates carrots.
[512] Isn't that ironic and crazy?
[513] I had to be him, so I had to dress up as him.
[514] That's weird.
[515] I'm Mel Blanc.
[516] I do voices.
[517] I don't know.
[518] It's a fact, though.
[519] He didn't like carrots.
[520] Spit them out.
[521] But nothing sounded like carrots, so he just had to chew carrots.
[522] It's a little fun fact.
[523] Fun fact.
[524] And he'd spit them out.
[525] He had a bucket.
[526] I played a lot more Tron than I ever wanted to.
[527] I think Brad and I also played a lot more Tron than we ever wanted to.
[528] How much Tron did you play?
[529] I finished it once.
[530] Okay.
[531] Two more times, man. No, again.
[532] I'm just better at it than you because I reached that level more quickly.
[533] I got to my fill.
[534] Level 50?
[535] Because I didn't get to level 50 until I had finished the game.
[536] Three times.
[537] No, that was the beauty of it.
[538] I didn't need to get to level 50 to be done with it.
[539] I don't get like this anymore.
[540] The achievement thing's kind of passed.
[541] Yeah.
[542] But there was something about the idea of rubbing Johnny's fucking face in it.
[543] Not really even rubbing his face.
[544] I didn't bother to tell him.
[545] At no point did I say, hey, I bet I can get all the points in Tron before you can.
[546] But it was the secret motivator.
[547] It was the secret motivator of, I'm going to get all the points in Tron.
[548] It was your character secret.
[549] So how many do you have now?
[550] All of them.
[551] You got every one?
[552] I got all of them.
[553] He is S -ranked Tron.
[554] I got all of them.
[555] Until that first DLC comes out.
[556] No, the first DLC is out.
[557] I bought it.
[558] It came out broken.
[559] Oh, yeah.
[560] And still doesn't seem to work for some people.
[561] It's broken even for people who don't have it because when you hit quick match, it'll try to match you into games with those maps even if you don't have it.
[562] Hot.
[563] Yeah.
[564] And it doesn't add.
[565] When you do custom match, you can choose to.
[566] I ended up doing that and there was nobody playing.
[567] I didn't have that problem because I had stopped playing by the time the deal started.
[568] Well, you know, the later multiplayer seems pretty unbalanced to me in that if you have yourself specced in the direction of the bomb disc, you pretty much kill anything in one hit when you're on a light cycle and hit the bomb disc.
[569] That sounds good.
[570] It's like wham, later tank, later everything.
[571] It's only made of light.
[572] I mean, whatever.
[573] Bombs aren't light.
[574] Those bombs are bombs.
[575] Well, they're discs.
[576] No, they're little black grenades that fly out around the light cycle when you're on the light cycle.
[577] That's not how discs work.
[578] I know.
[579] I bought the DLC, and those levels are okay.
[580] The classic level that's made to look like Old Tron is nice in that it has a break in the wall in one part that you can go out of.
[581] Oh, okay.
[582] I was shocked to see that in the film, the light cycle course that they're on in that, how much the number one light cycle course in the game looks exactly like that.
[583] I was surprised.
[584] With just the multiple layers and the way the ramps were laid out.
[585] Oh, yeah.
[586] It actually feels pretty closely modeled after that, which I wasn't expecting.
[587] Yeah, for sure.
[588] But, yeah, I don't know.
[589] I played a lot of that game.
[590] I found all the collectibles.
[591] I killed 100 dudes on a light cycle, which, again, like I said, was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.
[592] Tank seems harder just because you only get tank.
[593] You know, you play through the single player three times.
[594] You will kill 200 people with a tank.
[595] You can also just replay those sections, but yeah.
[596] Yeah, yeah.
[597] Killing 500 people with your regular disc ended up being probably the one that I cut the closest, I guess.
[598] The grindiest.
[599] Yeah, I don't know.
[600] That game...
[601] You like Tron.
[602] I like Tron.
[603] I don't necessarily like the game, but yeah, I really like Tron, as it turns out.
[604] I identify with Tron.
[605] Jeff likes Tron.
[606] In a way I did not realize, I should have realized, but all this new Tron stuff, maybe remember, oh wait, that's totally this super formative thing.
[607] You had mentioned that to me before I had seen the movie, but after you had consumed all that stuff, and so I was thinking about that quite a bit.
[608] Had a similar realization of – not just for my – so I started thinking like, wow, so that happened for me. And I know I don't really like Tron.
[609] Yeah.
[610] Like I know Tron's pretty bad.
[611] I don't find the movie particularly entertaining.
[612] The first movie.
[613] The first movie.
[614] The first movie.
[615] I thought the new one was a lot of fun.
[616] Good ride.
[617] But I started thinking about like why do people like – like why is there even – folks who like Tron what is it about Tron that has maintained I think it was one of the first things that really showed like I don't know I think it's because it's magic because it makes technology seem magic in a way that technology especially if you go back to like 1982 and look at what technology was then it was magic because it's hard to remember stuff that you saw 30 years ago in very clear focus But it also, it makes just the idea of technology seem magic again.
[618] Like, if you look at what tech was doing, like, at this point, it has become such a, you know, commodified, enumerated thing.
[619] Like, tech is just, you know, fucking everyone has it.
[620] It has been democratized to the point that there isn't really anything special about it.
[621] It's just, here's a thing, and then you use that to do whatever.
[622] So, like, to bring this level of there's magical fucking people writing.
[623] light cycles around inside your computer.
[624] Like, to be able to have that notion is a, you know, is a, and to have all of the, like, the aesthetics of technology, everything's super clean and glowing and shit like that, but then to have the logic of just, you know, we can do whatever the fuck we want.
[625] Lots of really good clear plastic.
[626] Yeah, yeah.
[627] Yeah, Tron Legacy in that movie.
[628] Tron Legacy gets lots of translucencies.
[629] Yeah.
[630] But yeah, it's magic.
[631] That's why it's awesome.
[632] Any other games, Jeffrey?
[633] I played a lot of Borderlands.
[634] No, no. Not last Christmas break.
[635] This Christmas break.
[636] Yeah.
[637] So after getting all those achievements in Tron, I kind of got a taste for it again.
[638] Like, well, you know, there's all the worst parts of Borderlands I have left.
[639] So I should probably just go get those out of the way.
[640] What's that, Mad Moxie?
[641] Yeah.
[642] So I went and played split -screen Mad Moxie for what ended up – I had already done one of the larger arenas.
[643] I had to do the other two.
[644] That ended up probably being about six hours of me killing level 12 monsters, never in danger of dying.
[645] But it's like the only way to get it done because playing it at level is – Like, kind of fucked.
[646] Did you even have to, like, look at the screen, really?
[647] Yeah.
[648] Yeah, absolutely.
[649] Yeah, no, because in the melee rounds, if the melee guys get it close to you, they can actually still do meaningful damage.
[650] And the last thing you want to have happen is fuck up and lose after investing that much time into it.
[651] Like, ugh.
[652] So I got through that stuff and then I had a bunch of collectible stuff from Claptrap's new robot revolution left to do.
[653] And those were made by people that hate people that like achievements.
[654] More so than the Mad Moxie stuff?
[655] Yeah.
[656] Way more so.
[657] Like Mad Moxie, you know, it's like whatever.
[658] It makes sense to give you an achievement at the end of finishing a thing.
[659] It's just that the things are fucking completely enjoyable.
[660] Whereas this, they created about three or four achievements, I guess, that are strictly based on you collecting stuff that randomly drops out of claptraps when you kill them.
[661] And almost all of them are super rare.
[662] To the point of complete absurdity.
[663] Like it seems broken.
[664] So I needed like 25 oil cans and five pairs of panties and five, was it like seven?
[665] Fish in a bag and 15 pizzas.
[666] 3D glasses or something?
[667] Yeah, I'd already gotten that one.
[668] That one turned up over the course of regularly playing it.
[669] He's giving robots pizzas.
[670] Yeah, pizza flies out of these clap traps, but only like every thousandth one or something.
[671] So some people went and kind of farmed this zone full of clap traps over and over again.
[672] Yeah, I got you.
[673] Do you like that?
[674] 2011.
[675] They go and do that over and over again.
[676] But if you go to the end of the game, if you go to the final boss from that DLC, that thing actually spits out the kamikaze claptraps.
[677] And there's a spot in the level where if you shoot all the turrets off the big thing that's fighting you, you can hide and just let it go for about eight hours.
[678] And all these claptraps will eventually explode on their own and they can't get to you.
[679] So you're not in any danger.
[680] And then you can just go around and pick up all the stuff that comes out of them when they blew up.
[681] So that was the – Is there a limit for that or is it just sort of like however long you're willing to – It's however long you're willing to sit there and leave your – Your machine running.
[682] But then someone said, well, I did it all in two hours by just actively chasing after the thing that spits out claptraps and shooting the claptraps as they come out.
[683] It's not that hard.
[684] Only took two hours.
[685] I was like, great.
[686] I have two hours.
[687] Two hours will seem like cake compared to this Mad Moxie bullshit.
[688] Yes.
[689] So I went and did that for three hours and got nothing.
[690] I mean I got like four pizzas and a bunch of pairs of panties and a bunch of fish, which the achievement is get like panties, fish, and pizza.
[691] I'm pretty sure I have the panties and fish covered.
[692] At no point – nowhere in the game does it tell you how many of these things you have, by the way.
[693] Oh, man. So I did not get the 25 cans of oil.
[694] I don't know how many cans of oil I have.
[695] I did not get enough pizza.
[696] And I eventually killed the boss by chasing it around and shooting the claptraps that were coming out of it.
[697] I thought you had to shoot it in its special spot, but apparently it does damage just hitting it anywhere.
[698] And the whole thing was a wash. That's why Borderlands didn't wait for Best Town.
[699] And on top of that, when they first released that stuff, there was a big bug that would prevent you from getting the achievements unless you did it all in a specific order.
[700] So I feel really sorry for the people that were doing this originally and getting all the stuff and going, it doesn't work.
[701] And then getting nothing for it.
[702] So yeah, it was made by people that hate people.
[703] Texans.
[704] And anyone that has all the points in...
[705] Borderlands either hacked it and cheated or they're just fucking masochists, man. Did you hit the level cap?
[706] No. No?
[707] No, I'm still not even level 69.
[708] Even after all that?
[709] Yeah.
[710] I'm like 68 or something, so it's not like that far off.
[711] But after doing that, I was not in the mood to play any more of that stuff.
[712] Or anything?
[713] Or anything.
[714] So that was pretty much, yeah.
[715] Fantastic.
[716] Vinny Caravella!
[717] Hey.
[718] How's it going, buddy?
[719] What's going on?
[720] I want to hear about your games.
[721] I want to hear about the games you've been playing lately, man. I almost played more Borderlands.
[722] Yeah.
[723] But I, you know, like level two.
[724] See, I would actually enjoy jumping into someone else's game and ruining it for them by being way over leveled for it.
[725] That's the problem, though.
[726] That would actually be.
[727] Well, I know Drew is trying to get the Mad Moxie achievements as well.
[728] He was talking about doing the split screen.
[729] You got to do a split screen.
[730] Like, that wouldn't be something we would be able to do together.
[731] Just new profile, kind of new character.
[732] Yeah, you just get like a level.
[733] I have a level six character on another profile.
[734] Sit him in the back or something.
[735] No, you can just die all he wants.
[736] It doesn't actually matter.
[737] Okay.
[738] just have to play on a half screen right which sucks because they never resize the ui for the like so when you pause it to change weapons or anything like that you can't see the edges of that menu it's cut off in the split screen sweet it's like really poorly implemented They never expected anyone would actually play that game in split screen.
[739] No, probably not.
[740] So considerations didn't get made.
[741] We played some Mad Moxies together, but we played like the non -fucking crazy ones.
[742] Yeah, there's five round ones and there's 20 round ones.
[743] Yeah.
[744] It's one of the fives.
[745] And I was like, okay.
[746] Insanity.
[747] Doing enough of that, I was like, I can't even fucking imagine.
[748] I can't even fathom.
[749] And you don't get any experience.
[750] You get nothing out of doing it.
[751] Yes.
[752] It is a complete zero -sum experience.
[753] You don't get money or guns?
[754] You get guns.
[755] Yeah, you get guns.
[756] But they're not at my level yet.
[757] They're all level two guns.
[758] Maybe when we were playing it, it was at my level.
[759] I don't think it was anything that I really wanted or needed.
[760] It was like, oh, cool, more stuff to sell.
[761] When you finish the Cloud Trap DLC, this room opens up that just has like 15 chests in it.
[762] Nice.
[763] And you can just reload and open those chests over and over again.
[764] So now that I'm like level 68, that's all like this level 68 gear that I'm selling for like 7 million credits.
[765] So you beat the game.
[766] Which I need none.
[767] You're done.
[768] Yeah.
[769] You didn't just finish it.
[770] You beat it.
[771] No, you're not done yet.
[772] Yeah, I wonder if I might go back and do that crap again.
[773] I might go back and make another run of collecting all that stupid shit.
[774] But it'd be you.
[775] Any Caravella?
[776] Instead of playing Borderlands, what did you have that was fun?
[777] What did you do that was fun?
[778] All right, let me rethink it.
[779] More Cities XL?
[780] No, that game's fun.
[781] Dead Rising 2 I put back in.
[782] You did not.
[783] I did.
[784] And I loaded up my save and tried to beat that chef a couple of times.
[785] And then realized that, like, I thought I could beat him real fast.
[786] Which one's the chef?
[787] He's the guy with the white apron.
[788] What's he do?
[789] He's fat.
[790] He makes food.
[791] He eats these, like, stations where he gets his health back is the big thing.
[792] That's the worst.
[793] So, like, my problem was I had a ticker going down on a main mission.
[794] And, like, the ticker on the chef, they were about at the same thing.
[795] And I thought, like, all right.
[796] I see when I hit him with the lightsaber, his health goes down real fast.
[797] And I need to make a run where I beat the chef and I can quickly stop the dudes from whatever they were drilling into the other casinos or whatever they were stealing the money.
[798] Right, yeah, yeah.
[799] And I couldn't do it.
[800] And eventually I just started the game over.
[801] What level?
[802] I forget, 19 or 18, something like that.
[803] And then I started the game over and I played like another hour and a half and just was like, oh, man. I think I'm done again for a bit.
[804] I know.
[805] But I'm actually playing this time through.
[806] I'm like, fuck it all.
[807] I'm bringing as many survivors with me. If they die, I don't care.
[808] I'm just going to play through and get to the end of the story in this game.
[809] And if I want to play through it again.
[810] And try and get everyone.
[811] Yeah, and beat that fucking chef.
[812] I'll do it again some other time.
[813] But I just want to see what happens at the end of this because I just want to play Case West.
[814] That's it.
[815] I just want to make it through to play Case West.
[816] I know that feeling.
[817] I have Case West sitting there waiting, and I'm like, I really want to play this because this is the Dead Rising experience I want, but I'm going to have to put up with all of Dead Rising 2.
[818] I know.
[819] You kind of already saw the ending when you watched Case West.
[820] Kind of, but I haven't gotten there yet.
[821] But is the consensus basically just like psychos are what make Dead Rising...
[822] For me, yeah.
[823] I think I like that game the most of anyone in this room by far.
[824] You like the Psychos?
[825] No, even I hate the Psychos.
[826] I still hate the load times on the 360, and I think on the PC.
[827] Playing on the PC, the load times are like three seconds maybe.
[828] It really, really kind of annoys me, that whole bringing people back to that air duct, loading to get into the air duct, and then loading to get right back out just makes me real bored.
[829] I made the command decision to not play Case West because I did not like Case Zero or Dead Rising 2.
[830] Oh, wait.
[831] He will be fooled again.
[832] It took me two games, but I figured it out.
[833] Have you read about Case West or did you watch the Quick Look or anything?
[834] No. Check this out.
[835] You don't have to escort survivors anymore.
[836] That's not the thing, though.
[837] You save them and they're just done.
[838] That's cool.
[839] But that's not the...
[840] The psychopath that's in it is not that hard.
[841] Honestly, I'm actually kind of, after seeing the quick look, I'm kind of cool on Case West as well.
[842] Yeah, it's okay.
[843] Just because the setting is not nearly as interesting as...
[844] The setting is not to its credit.
[845] Like the little dusty town from Case Zero I thought was fantastic.
[846] Gave it a really unique feel.
[847] And then, you know, Fortune City is just bananas.
[848] So that's great in its own way, I guess.
[849] Like warehouses.
[850] Yeah, just like the most fucking nondescript just beige boxes that you're inside.
[851] There's a couple, like, if you climb up to the third floor, there's, like, a little tiki lounge, which is kind of random.
[852] But, yeah, for the most part, it's, like, totally institutional.
[853] So, like, all the things that I had that had turned me off from, that made me put Dead Rising 2 on the shelf originally, just started, literally came back in this weird flood of emotion that are like, God, I fucking hate this.
[854] God, you can only, why so many few inventory slots?
[855] Put a goddamn storeroom there and put the weapons I can make in the storeroom.
[856] I'm not going to carry around a newspaper.
[857] I'm done.
[858] So if you go back to it, the thing I've heard recommended is go into every psychopath fight with three or four survivors all with assault rifles because they don't run out of ammo.
[859] And they'll just sit there and wail on them until they're dead.
[860] Or the thing I did was just go on YouTube and look at the cheap way to beat each one of them.
[861] I looked and there were things that I didn't want to spend the time doing.
[862] Like, go find the knife gloves.
[863] It's like, oh, I just feel like going to find the knife.
[864] It's kind of a pain.
[865] And making the items.
[866] I thought I would come back to it renewed with renewed vigor.
[867] And it was like, I just want to make the spiked baseball bat because that is what's near this room every time I walk by it.
[868] A baseball bat and a box of nails that I don't want to carry around.
[869] Like the benefit isn't worth the trouble for the other stuff.
[870] I'm going to hunt.
[871] I'm going to look for a flashlight.
[872] And if I find one, I'll try and keep it in my limited inventory.
[873] I don't know.
[874] I know.
[875] I played Ilo Milo.
[876] Milo Ilo?
[877] Ilo Milo.
[878] Ilo Milo.
[879] Ilo Milo.
[880] That game's cool.
[881] Have we reached consensus on the pronunciation?
[882] Ilo Milo.
[883] That's what I thought.
[884] What's the argument?
[885] Would someone say Ilo Milo?
[886] I've heard a lot of people say Ilo Milo.
[887] Really?
[888] I don't know.
[889] Why?
[890] I don't know.
[891] I don't think I heard anyone say it.
[892] I don't think I had heard anyone say it out loud when I decided that it was.
[893] It's not Milo and Otis.
[894] I'm firmly in the Ilo camp.
[895] No, I mean, Milo is...
[896] Well, those are their names.
[897] Ilo and Milo.
[898] Yeah, those are the two characters.
[899] But it could be Milo.
[900] I mean, Milo is a pronunciation of that name.
[901] Is it?
[902] Yeah, that's acceptable.
[903] The game is Swedish, so that may have some bearing on it.
[904] I don't know.
[905] Well, we're in fucking America.
[906] God damn it.
[907] So we're going to call it Ilo Milo.
[908] Similarly, for everyone that decided to try and correct me for my pronunciation of a wrecketeer.
[909] I did that based on what the game says.
[910] The game says it's pronounced Reketeer.
[911] I don't care if it's a French root or some bullshit.
[912] Reketeer.
[913] This is it.
[914] I mean, we're in America, so we call Ilo Malo by its rightful name.
[915] There ain't no guns in it, so fuck that shit.
[916] No, like the game very explicitly.
[917] It kind of tells you how you should be pronouncing that name by comparing it to Racketeer.
[918] Okay.
[919] And plenty of people chimed in to say that it's like reset because it's a French word.
[920] And I'm like, well, that may be the case, but the game told me to say it this way, so I don't feel bad about that.
[921] Milo told me. Milo, Milo.
[922] So you played some Milo, Milo.
[923] I did in that game.
[924] I reached a point in that game, though, where the puzzle started getting hard, and then I was like, aw.
[925] All right.
[926] Trying to have a relaxing break here.
[927] Trying to have fun.
[928] Should have just started over on World of Keflings.
[929] There's nothing in your way.
[930] Nothing in your way at all.
[931] I've never seen anything in it that's absolutely insurmountable, but you have to think pretty damn hard.
[932] You have to really look at stuff from every angle.
[933] You kind of reach a point where you're like, I just don't want to make my brain work that hard.
[934] It takes serious effort.
[935] And you start having to play the game from that total zoomed out view.
[936] And spin the camera a lot and put things around.
[937] Can I get to that side from here?
[938] What's Rascals like?
[939] And then I played Rascals.
[940] And you're like, oh, well, this is very straightforward.
[941] Yeah, and Rascals was – I had finished that in one sitting and just went like right through because you can kind of power through that really quickly.
[942] Yeah, it's not very long.
[943] Nope.
[944] It's not very long at all.
[945] But I feel like they have played through the first World of Rascals and kind of had my fill of it.
[946] Yeah, it doesn't change it up too much.
[947] It just gets harder, basically.
[948] But they do have a decent amount of variety, I feel.
[949] Surprising amount.
[950] I would say a surprising amount of variety.
[951] More than I would have anticipated for what they have.
[952] But I see your point.
[953] There are variations, though, on the kind of common theme.
[954] But, you know...
[955] The humor in it is really weird.
[956] I can never tell if I was not finding it funny or finding it funny.
[957] I never reached a consensus.
[958] It's endearing if nothing else.
[959] It's just weird.
[960] Yeah.
[961] Like once in a while, I don't know.
[962] There are flashes.
[963] Usually it's just sort of like, oh, these are just corny puns.
[964] But sometimes the corny puns hit perfectly.
[965] That was actually an excellent piece of wordplay right there.
[966] Comedy right there.
[967] Did you make it through to the end?
[968] I only made it through the second.
[969] I finished the second world and then stopped playing.
[970] Okay.
[971] Some stuff at the very end was pretty funny.
[972] It's an odd game.
[973] It's an odd game.
[974] It's really strange.
[975] I became infuriated with it, mostly because I was trying to get everything as I went, including all those little red level challenges.
[976] Dude.
[977] Some of the red ones are tough.
[978] There's one on level one where there's like a 20 coin door that you have to pop through.
[979] It restricts you unless you have 20 of those coins.
[980] The one on behind that, there's like a relay race thing that was just like impossible.
[981] Baffling.
[982] At some point, the game thinks that it's Super Meat Boy, but the controls are not loose.
[983] You know how Meat Boy has that combination of loose precision?
[984] You know what I mean?
[985] Sure, yeah.
[986] It's kind of both ways, right?
[987] It feels really precise, but also there's some give to everything.
[988] This game does not have that.
[989] Just simple things like jumping in this game.
[990] It's very locked.
[991] There's no air control.
[992] It simply jumps R of this height.
[993] Meat Boy is sort of like, well, if you tap it, you can get a little hot.
[994] Or you can hold it and get a really long jump and then you can get some air control.
[995] None of that exists in Rattles.
[996] You jump in a very set arc. When you jump out of water, the direction that you're going when you come out is the way you're going.
[997] Yeah, so some of those things are just.
[998] Don't play the bonus levels if you want to like that game.
[999] I did wind up playing for a bit and got a lot of those coins, but I think I might be done now on that.
[1000] Surprisingly, I thought I wasn't going to like it.
[1001] We did that quick look, and then I went back to it and enjoyed playing it more than I enjoyed.
[1002] The multiplayer when we did the quick look was actually really fun.
[1003] Yeah, it was good in like a four -way split screen, like N64 kind of yelling at each other sort of way.
[1004] There was lots of yelling.
[1005] And then I spent a lot of time playing Tetris.
[1006] What?
[1007] Yeah.
[1008] You got your taste for Tetris?
[1009] Oh, so you broke out your Game Boy.
[1010] That's cool.
[1011] We did a quick look of Tetris for PlayStation Network last week.
[1012] What's Tetris?
[1013] Tetris is like block puzzle.
[1014] It's the Russian Mindbender.
[1015] Like Dr. Mindbender?
[1016] Actually, that's Greg.
[1017] That guy's murderous in the ring.
[1018] So I asked my wife.
[1019] EA has finally brought Tetris to the PlayStation 3.
[1020] You're friends at Electronic Arts.
[1021] All right.
[1022] Plants versus Tetris.
[1023] Is the game just public domain?
[1024] Tetris?
[1025] No. Is this like a PlayStation or is this a PSP mini?
[1026] No, it's a network.
[1027] It's a $10 PSN game.
[1028] Okay.
[1029] For Tetris.
[1030] That's why I imagine it has like full multiplayer.
[1031] It's a good version of Tetris.
[1032] It's actually not bad.
[1033] Cool.
[1034] Fucking versions of Tetris Go.
[1035] It's got some fun.
[1036] Can you spin forever?
[1037] Yeah, that is the Tetris.
[1038] That is the current Tetris.
[1039] I don't know if it's forever.
[1040] They would lock me in after a while.
[1041] It doesn't seem as bad.
[1042] Spin lock.
[1043] It's a T -spin.
[1044] The T -spins, I didn't try and abuse it, but that's become such an integral part of modern Tetris play.
[1045] They number you on those.
[1046] You did five T -spins.
[1047] I have never, ever done a T -spin.
[1048] You watch that Master replay.
[1049] Oh, God damn it.
[1050] That guy was crazy.
[1051] And that's not even the craziest Tetris play I've ever seen.
[1052] It's pretty crazy.
[1053] They have a shared or I should say kind of co -op version mode in there where Ryan would be on the right side of the screen.
[1054] I'd be on the left.
[1055] And in the center, it's probably about a five block.
[1056] I'd say four block.
[1057] Shared zone.
[1058] And you can only make lines disappear all the way across, right?
[1059] No, there have been games that have done that before.
[1060] So that is just like.
[1061] Man, you want to test the patience of your friends.
[1062] What the fuck is wrong with you?
[1063] Well, it's funny because it immediately becomes apparent how different people play Tetris.
[1064] Everyone has a way that they kind of try and build up the alley, and it's like, well, this is how I want to set my stuff up, and whenever I get one of these pieces, I tend to do one of these three things with it.
[1065] So I played with my wife for a while, and it was really interesting.
[1066] I was about to divorce you from the quick look.
[1067] It's really interesting.
[1068] It is an interesting version of that game and a mode to play.
[1069] So I played a lot of Tetris, and it was great.
[1070] I haven't played Tetris in a long time.
[1071] I was happy I got to play it.
[1072] I don't know, for $10.
[1073] The kind of thing, though, that stuck with me was how goddamn long it took me to get that copy of Tetris off of the PlayStation Network.
[1074] That was just over the weekend.
[1075] Right?
[1076] Yeah, but I just mean in terms of like trying to buy something from the PlayStation Network was an exercise in patience for me. And I'd lost my credit card information, which I don't know.
[1077] Weird.
[1078] So I had to enter a bunch of stuff in and then go through like seven menus and it just, I don't know.
[1079] I'm fed up.
[1080] Hey, man, at least it's not the Wii shop.
[1081] I know.
[1082] Where you have to enter everything every time.
[1083] What's going on?
[1084] That's for your safety.
[1085] I mean, I have no problem with PlayStation Store because they have my shit.
[1086] Yeah.
[1087] I'm on PlayStation Plus.
[1088] But you still have to do like 15 menu presses to get it.
[1089] You know what?
[1090] In some ways, I think it works way better than Xbox Live Marketplace, particularly if you want to buy more than one thing.
[1091] Oh, and you add it to a cart.
[1092] Because you can do a cart and you can just buy everything at once and then you can say, download all.
[1093] And then it just starts a queue to download that stuff instead of like the, I'm going to go buy this thing and start the download.
[1094] All right, then go over to this other thing and start the thing.
[1095] The active downloads on the Xbox would download everything in a row anyway.
[1096] Sure.
[1097] It's just kind of the same.
[1098] But it's just – it's the having to go through the – it's more button presses if you want to buy multiple things.
[1099] But I don't – you're probably right.
[1100] I think I'm just – I think the 360 does it a little more elegantly because you never feel like you're going into a store, like an online browser.
[1101] It's just like this is in the interface.
[1102] Because you can still never find where anything is.
[1103] On Microsoft?
[1104] On either.
[1105] On either, yeah.
[1106] On either.
[1107] But like going into the store and a cart and all that stuff seems like – A little shoehorned in.
[1108] I don't know.
[1109] I think the PlayStation Store has a way more sensible interface overall.
[1110] It can.
[1111] It's still easy to be like, how come I just show me these things?
[1112] Why won't you just show me these things?
[1113] Why Splendor PS3 games and not games or whatever?
[1114] There's all these weird strangely named categories.
[1115] Well, it's like they have the newest releases, but they don't just show you everything.
[1116] It's like, okay, then from here you can choose if you want the newest of these releases.
[1117] I'm like, just show me everything.
[1118] Well, I ended up having to, because I was trying to.
[1119] to buy a PSP game that was not a recent release.
[1120] It was like a month or something old.
[1121] I ended up buying Zetai Hero Project.
[1122] Was it Undying Hero versus Evil Death Dark...
[1123] Evil Dead Darkman?
[1124] Evil Death Darkman?
[1125] ZHP?
[1126] Yeah, ZHP.
[1127] And...
[1128] That had that process, of course, started with the, now I need to update my firmware.
[1129] And, oh, wait, the battery is dead on this thing.
[1130] So I got the full complement of, I got to charge this up so I can update the firmware, so I can access the store.
[1131] So you turn on the PSP, and then first you have to set the date because it's been dead for so long.
[1132] Then it lost the date.
[1133] Which I did this, I think, on the first, so actually the date was already right.
[1134] It was great.
[1135] I just had to set the year.
[1136] So then from there you try and go into, or you do an update.
[1137] From there, I go to the store, and it says, you need a firmware update.
[1138] I was like, okay, great.
[1139] Download the firmware update.
[1140] Go download the firmware update.
[1141] Go page, page, page, and then it says, hey, you don't have enough battery.
[1142] You've got to juice it up, son.
[1143] So then you get juiced up, patched, reboot.
[1144] Get into the store.
[1145] Get into the store.
[1146] Search for the game.
[1147] Right.
[1148] Find the game.
[1149] Does the PlayStation Store for PSP, it only shows PSP -capable content?
[1150] Yeah.
[1151] Hey, Will Smith.
[1152] Hi.
[1153] What's up, Will Smith?
[1154] I'm looking for the jerky.
[1155] What jerky?
[1156] It's in the kitchen.
[1157] It's in the kitchen.
[1158] It's also gone.
[1159] I saw an empty bag of jerky.
[1160] Oh, yeah.
[1161] All right.
[1162] Well, we won't cut that.
[1163] Test .com is Will Smith.
[1164] He's looking for the jerky.
[1165] Looking for the jerky.
[1166] Oh, man, I want the jerky.
[1167] No jerky in here unless you're talking about jerky boys.
[1168] Hey, chisel chest, which we are.
[1169] Vinny, how many Jerky Boys CDs do you own?
[1170] Two tapes.
[1171] Did you own?
[1172] Cassette tapes.
[1173] Just two tapes?
[1174] Two cassette tapes?
[1175] I never saw the movie, but I own Jerky Boys 2 on CD.
[1176] Bradley.
[1177] Zip.
[1178] No crank calls for you.
[1179] How's the latest Larchmont...
[1180] Longmont Potion Castle?
[1181] Longmont Potion Castle.
[1182] It makes those Jerky Boys shit look like garbage.
[1183] Longmont Potion Castle 8 is fantastic.
[1184] Good to know.
[1185] And he's doing it over Skype now, so the audio quality is way better.
[1186] Oh, it's much crisper.
[1187] Yes.
[1188] Fantastic.
[1189] Look for that.
[1190] Which is...
[1191] On the internet, I guess.
[1192] People still making crank calls?
[1193] Yeah.
[1194] But, like, high concept.
[1195] Like, they've gone...
[1196] It's no longer just, like...
[1197] Like, theater?
[1198] Like...
[1199] bad characters that make people angry.
[1200] Absurdists just...
[1201] The mind games of crank calls.
[1202] He's asking for things that don't exist, that clearly don't exist, that's not even like, I need to look and see.
[1203] Like they can tell that it's a crank call immediately.
[1204] Yet they stay on with him and invariably end up threatening his life.
[1205] Really?
[1206] All of them almost end up with just threats of violence.
[1207] I always wondered what the over, kind of like under, not over, under, but like the cut rate on some of that stuff is.
[1208] Like how many do you have to do to get?
[1209] I expect that it's got to be a large, large number.
[1210] Very high.
[1211] Yeah.
[1212] Very high.
[1213] Like the percentage that you keep.
[1214] And also the guy is just really good, especially in these newer ones, just really good at sounding as stoned as possible.
[1215] Really honing his craft.
[1216] Yeah.
[1217] He's just like, if that guy called me and just sounded that high on the phone, I'd be like, man, I got it.
[1218] I can't even talk to you.
[1219] I can't even speak to you.
[1220] You were not going to be able to understand any English that comes out of this telephone.
[1221] Crank calls.
[1222] Yeah.
[1223] What were we talking about before?
[1224] So I eventually did.
[1225] Right.
[1226] Then I had to download.
[1227] Then I had to install.
[1228] I'd really like to know what it is with the PSP and PlayStation 3.
[1229] These install processes for these downloaded games just seems to take forever.
[1230] What is it?
[1231] How does it happen?
[1232] Why surface that to the user?
[1233] Just put it included as part of the percentage bar, is that what you're saying?
[1234] Why do I care that, oh, I have this not installed?
[1235] Just install it!
[1236] I'm not going to...
[1237] I really don't...
[1238] I don't understand why it's there.
[1239] Why does it prompt you?
[1240] Why doesn't it just do it?
[1241] Sometimes it does.
[1242] Sometimes it doesn't, as far as I can tell.
[1243] If you ever do download in the background, it just downloads.
[1244] It just downloads.
[1245] If you download it and install and then let it sit, it installs at the end of that.
[1246] Doesn't it unpack and then install?
[1247] Yeah.
[1248] Well, first it has to un -rar.
[1249] Then it has to un -arge.
[1250] Then it has to un -ace.
[1251] Then it has to run a CRC check.
[1252] Then it has to extract all the files out of the 7z files.
[1253] And then it has to un -zoo it.
[1254] Razor 1911.
[1255] Tarballs.
[1256] LHA.
[1257] What were we talking about?
[1258] How dumb things are.
[1259] Anyway.
[1260] ZHP is all right.
[1261] I don't know.
[1262] Like a lot of people.
[1263] People were talking it up.
[1264] Yeah, people were definitely talking it up.
[1265] What is it?
[1266] It's like a dungeon crawly kind of RPG sort of thing.
[1267] It is perhaps roguelike.
[1268] I don't know.
[1269] I didn't play enough to know if the dungeons are randomized.
[1270] It's a game where if you die, it's like, that's cool.
[1271] You just start over, but that's what you want to do because you'll be more powerful next time.
[1272] Like Dead Rising.
[1273] Kind of, sort of.
[1274] I didn't die, so I don't know exactly how it works.
[1275] Like Demon's Souls?
[1276] Demon's Souls.
[1277] Yeah, maybe something like that.
[1278] But yeah, so it's this isometric RPG and the sprites.
[1279] The characters look really blurry.
[1280] And it's all about the direction in which you are facing and stuff like that.
[1281] So it's like you need to be facing the right direction.
[1282] And then attack in that direction if the guy is standing right there.
[1283] You get a turn, they get a turn.
[1284] That whole thing.
[1285] That kind of roguelike style.
[1286] But not first person.
[1287] No, not first person.
[1288] The story is in craziness.
[1289] That's pretty.
[1290] Yeah.
[1291] And I like that part a lot.
[1292] It's about a character named Super Baby.
[1293] Interesting.
[1294] You start at the game.
[1295] You are not Undying Hero, but Undying Hero gets hit by a car and dies and then gives the helmet to you.
[1296] And he's on his way to the final boss fight.
[1297] He's running and gets hit by a car.
[1298] And you have to show up to the final boss fight and you immediately die.
[1299] And you get teleported to where heroes train to be better heroes.
[1300] Is this a Nippon Ichi joint?
[1301] Yeah.
[1302] Okay.
[1303] Figured.
[1304] Yep.
[1305] So how come Undying Hero didn't get teleported to the place?
[1306] He is dead.
[1307] He is really dead.
[1308] Real dead.
[1309] And he gave the helmet to you.
[1310] He's not video game dead.
[1311] He becomes like your guardian angel kind of watching over you.
[1312] That's nice of him.
[1313] Hanging out, arguing with the woman who runs the area, the hero training stuff.
[1314] Weird.
[1315] So the whole game is you training up to win this boss fight that you lose at the beginning of the game.
[1316] And it cut back at one point to just show Super Baby just putting up all these shields to not die every time the final boss attacked it.
[1317] And you have to get back before Super Baby dies.
[1318] Otherwise the world will end.
[1319] Do you have to run like the serpent road or something to get back?
[1320] He's got to go through all these floors of dungeons and train basically.
[1321] It's all training before the next episode.
[1322] Like they kind of tie it into weird kind of TV.
[1323] tropes in a couple of spots but uh neat ideas really neat ideas but uh the the way it played like to cast spells you have to arm the spell first and then once you're facing in the right direction you kind of have to go back into the menu like even it's just like a lot of stuff just requires you to go back into a menu instead of just being mapped directly to button presses feels like it all could have been streamlined a lot psp only yeah yeah it's been anything other than split second tetris split second what yeah All right.
[1324] Yeah, it came to my Gamefly.
[1325] Oh, had you not played it at all before?
[1326] What do you think?
[1327] It's cool.
[1328] It's fun.
[1329] I think I might have got bored of it.
[1330] Yeah, yeah.
[1331] You kind of see everything once and go, all right.
[1332] I'm not sure if I'm playing it the right way.
[1333] You drive fast.
[1334] Or the best way, yeah.
[1335] Drift and then drive fast.
[1336] Like I'm finishing a season before moving on, finishing all the races in a season before moving on to the next season.
[1337] So I might be burning myself out.
[1338] Yeah.
[1339] Maybe I should just move on to see the new stuff.
[1340] Just whenever something new unlocks, just go to the new stuff.
[1341] Yeah.
[1342] Because there's a finite number of tracks and features.
[1343] Because basically it's the little stunt features that you care about.
[1344] Course changes.
[1345] Yeah, course changes.
[1346] And even some of the smaller stuff.
[1347] It doesn't all have to be the giant course changes.
[1348] But those are the set pieces.
[1349] Those are the things that make it super, super crazy.
[1350] So I was like, I'm going to gold medal every track before moving on.
[1351] Yeah, that game does not age like wine.
[1352] It does.
[1353] It's just vinegar.
[1354] Yeah.
[1355] Yeah, but that was all right.
[1356] That first impression that game makes that I think is just so fucking thrilling.
[1357] I'll play some more of it, but I think I'm ready to move on.
[1358] That was about it.
[1359] I like the Steam store, I'll say.
[1360] Maybe it's just because it's on the PC, but I find it very easy to purchase stuff from the Steam store.
[1361] Did you end up buying a lot of stuff from the sale?
[1362] No. I bought New Winter Nights.
[1363] I bought New Winter Nights.
[1364] How is it?
[1365] It's SimCity.
[1366] I know.
[1367] He says it's SimCity.
[1368] It's SimCity.
[1369] Man. You get fucked on the traffic.
[1370] That's kind of what you want, right?
[1371] Yeah, that is.
[1372] They haven't really made one of those in a while.
[1373] It's just like a regular old, it's just SimCity.
[1374] And even when they were making it.
[1375] We didn't make it on the moon.
[1376] We didn't.
[1377] And then even like the last one they made was not really.
[1378] Yeah, it wasn't exactly.
[1379] Well, so it's like.
[1380] Too crazy.
[1381] Do you want to build residential zones and commercial zones and industrial zones?
[1382] I just want SimCity 2000.
[1383] I'm actually just going to go install SimCity 2000.
[1384] Was it 5 the last one?
[1385] Soap Temple and Skirk.
[1386] I don't think they, did they make a 5?
[1387] I think 5 was the last one.
[1388] I thought the last one had a. 3 ,000 and then there was 4.
[1389] I thought the last one had like a weird subtitle.
[1390] No. I don't know if there was a 5.
[1391] I think 4 might have been the last one.
[1392] I don't know.
[1393] If only there was some kind of website we could check.
[1394] Original SimCity.
[1395] I want nothing past that.
[1396] I don't even want to.
[1397] Oh, 2K, man. Water pipes are two.
[1398] Water pipes are pretty.
[1399] I can't.
[1400] My mind can't fucking deal with subterranean systems.
[1401] I eventually was able to deal with it.
[1402] Also just, yeah.
[1403] That's the least fun part of that entire thing.
[1404] I don't like the difference in terrain.
[1405] I like that it's just like a residential zone is this many.
[1406] A commercial zone is this many.
[1407] Always.
[1408] I'm trying.
[1409] I can just drag this box out and make it go forever.
[1410] Oh, then you won't like see this XL because you get free form.
[1411] You can just click.
[1412] I'm just trying to get some splines reciculated over there.
[1413] Microbot.
[1414] Microbot.
[1415] Microbot is going there.
[1416] Speaking of games that I actually played but didn't tell you I played.
[1417] I figured that's why I decided to go back to the table.
[1418] I knew this would happen.
[1419] Microbot?
[1420] What did you think of Microbot?
[1421] I don't like it.
[1422] Yeah, it's okay.
[1423] We played some Microbot.
[1424] You know, I think it looks kind of gross.
[1425] Something about the swirly blood out of syringe stuff.
[1426] I think it looks great.
[1427] I think it looks great.
[1428] It really grosses me out.
[1429] I found myself a little uneasy.
[1430] But once you get out of the first world, did you guys play past the first world?
[1431] No, I almost made it to the end.
[1432] It doesn't look like body at all anymore.
[1433] All of a sudden it's like, now you're in this crystalline cave.
[1434] What part of the fucking body is this?
[1435] Boogers.
[1436] Yeah, my cold heart.
[1437] So that stuff I thought was a little weird.
[1438] And also it's just a really average.
[1439] I'm in a no paddle ship.
[1440] I just don't.
[1441] That's not a good idea.
[1442] Oh, yeah.
[1443] I was basically having to push him along because he couldn't move.
[1444] I was a giant spine ball.
[1445] If you put all.
[1446] rotors on your ship.
[1447] It goes pretty fast.
[1448] Right into the enemies.
[1449] One of the types of propulsion devices actually does damage when it hits.
[1450] You can theoretically do that, I guess.
[1451] Microbot.
[1452] I didn't much care for that game.
[1453] Microbot.
[1454] On the Steam sale, I bought Need for Speed Hot Pursuit for the PC.
[1455] If you like...
[1456] racing games that run at 60 frames per second room pc version you should get the pc version of that and buy a better computer um because mine can usually do it at 1080 but occasionally it bogs down so Also, you really miss the whole unified friends network thing when you are faced with a game that is entirely driven by you having friends and you don't have any friends.
[1457] I was going to ask, what friends list does that pull from?
[1458] You have to build a specific game.
[1459] It doesn't even pull.
[1460] I had friends in Burnout Paradise.
[1461] It did not yank from that.
[1462] It's the same account I used for Burnout.
[1463] But it doesn't pull any kind of...
[1464] How do you actually add friends?
[1465] Well, you have a lot of...
[1466] followers on twitter and say here is my name on the pc version speed yeah okay oh boo and uh and then add them all manually in this i had to dig to find the menu to add friends like the whole thing uh that aspect of the game i thought was done incredibly poorly for uh and also like they you could tell that at some point no one cares about the pc version of that game because it has the same uh news section as the console version But all those news updates just say like, hey, get it in the in -game store.
[1467] You're like, wait, what in -game store?
[1468] Go to the in -game store and get it.
[1469] But there is no in -game.
[1470] In -game store is where the stuff is.
[1471] There's no. Guys.
[1472] Hot sale.
[1473] Guys, there's no in -game store.
[1474] All the cool kids are coming to the in -game store.
[1475] Join us.
[1476] How do I get to the...
[1477] Just click on the in -game store.
[1478] There's no...
[1479] It's not here.
[1480] 1 .1 update available now from the in -game store.
[1481] That's not happening.
[1482] I hit the thing.
[1483] It doesn't go.
[1484] That's pretty...
[1485] That's a bummer.
[1486] You just have to...
[1487] So do you even – is there anything?
[1488] The DLC does not exist for PC.
[1489] Oh, great.
[1490] So it's another one of those situations.
[1491] Does an EA account span all their platforms?
[1492] Because I couldn't connect on the Tetris side.
[1493] I had to make a new account.
[1494] I wouldn't read my – It might just be a different email address for your stuff.
[1495] I don't know.
[1496] You might have to – tie your PSN name to it?
[1497] Yeah.
[1498] Maybe.
[1499] I don't know.
[1500] You know, I think I went through all that bullshit a while ago, so I'm pretty well wired up on my EA games now.
[1501] I had to go through it all over again when I changed all my names.
[1502] It's still super fucking stupid.
[1503] It's still, like, just the EA, like, separate off thing just brings nothing to the user experience.
[1504] I don't even know what they get out of it.
[1505] Like, marketing data?
[1506] They get email addresses, yeah.
[1507] Yeah.
[1508] It just, it's...
[1509] And some of them leave the...
[1510] Can we market to you box checked?
[1511] So they get that stuff.
[1512] I just feel like, yeah, the detriment that it has towards the user experience is pretty.
[1513] Well, especially in Tetris, if you don't want to do it.
[1514] Oh, it constantly says like, hey.
[1515] Every game, literally every single time you want to play a game of Tetris.
[1516] Online or off.
[1517] Every time you want to restart and do all that stuff, it's like.
[1518] hey, do you want to sign up for the EA thing?
[1519] Can you connect to your EA thing?
[1520] Every single time.
[1521] And if you don't, there are no leaderboards, no nothing.
[1522] All that stuff is handled.
[1523] Well, that's why when they shut servers down, it's a big deal.
[1524] It's like all that stuff is supposed to be unified.
[1525] You never hear about other companies that are like, oh, we're shutting down our servers because all of them just use the basic Microsoft infrastructure or at least you never hear about servers getting shut down on the 360.
[1526] PS3 sometimes does occur.
[1527] But for the most part, yeah, because it's all just the same basic crap.
[1528] Like leaderboards and all that stuff kind of comes with it when you make those kinds of games.
[1529] And the only reason that EA is able to shut all their stuff off is because they want you to buy their next games.
[1530] So they built all this stuff specifically so they could do that, specifically so they can collect your email address and shut you out of a game.
[1531] There's no user benefit to any of that stuff.
[1532] It's the worst.
[1533] It's the worst buttholes.
[1534] I just wanted to play some Tetris and see how everybody else is doing.
[1535] The one benefit with the way Need for Speed ends up working out is that every single person you add plays Need for Speed Hot Pursuit.
[1536] So you at least have a full -ass list.
[1537] Now that I've gone and added all these people.
[1538] Those leaderboards are crazy because it's like 60 people on it or something.
[1539] It's like, wow.
[1540] And they're really into it.
[1541] Actively playing.
[1542] Well, yeah, I guess.
[1543] I don't know.
[1544] I did not necessarily play a ton of it.
[1545] Vinny Caravella.
[1546] That's it.
[1547] That's it?
[1548] Count me out.
[1549] That's it?
[1550] That's it?
[1551] Check, please, Jenny.
[1552] Who's Jenny?
[1553] I don't know.
[1554] To your server?
[1555] Yeah.
[1556] Cash me out, Jenny.
[1557] Jenny Shoemaker.
[1558] What's going on?
[1559] Who's he talking to?
[1560] I don't respond.
[1561] That's what he wants.
[1562] I'm not.
[1563] Yeah.
[1564] I don't know who he's talking to.
[1565] Say my name.
[1566] Hey, Brad.
[1567] Hmm?
[1568] What's going on?
[1569] Hi.
[1570] How's it going?
[1571] What's going on?
[1572] You playing any games lately, man?
[1573] Let's see.
[1574] I played some Tron Evolution.
[1575] How'd that go?
[1576] Do you have anything to add to that?
[1577] Again, did you finish it also?
[1578] I did finish it over the weekend.
[1579] Yeah.
[1580] I don't really ever want to.
[1581] Man, I hate to say it.
[1582] If you finish it two more times.
[1583] Sorry, Johnny.
[1584] I don't ever want to play it again.
[1585] I'm sorry.
[1586] If you finish it two more times, it's better.
[1587] He tried to do this in the car this morning.
[1588] But not that much better.
[1589] So I came to a weird realization that they could have been a lot better about teaching you how to play that game.
[1590] Yes.
[1591] And like the stuff, the way the combat works.
[1592] Like the counters are not super clearly explained.
[1593] Or maybe the importance of countering is kind of underplayed.
[1594] Well, the thing is, the way I played it the first two times I played it.
[1595] Well, keep in mind, that's a total of four times.
[1596] Yeah, because I played it once for review purposes and then three on retail after the review was up just for this achievement.
[1597] Horse shit, which I'm glad I don't do that much anymore.
[1598] Chasing the achievements?
[1599] It was kind of nice to do it again.
[1600] Yeah.
[1601] Felt like old times.
[1602] Yeah.
[1603] But by the end, I was like, man, fuck this.
[1604] I still, you know, I don't, I never, unless it's like, okay, this is something I can do over the course or with minimal extra effort.
[1605] Yeah.
[1606] I don't, I don't chase them.
[1607] Like, I was specifically driven in this case.
[1608] It's the same reason I have all the points in full auto.
[1609] It's because there was someone that I could put the screws to, whether it was in my head or otherwise.
[1610] Competition they were not aware of.
[1611] With full auto, the competition was very much.
[1612] Yeah, no, that was full blown.
[1613] That was the dumbest.
[1614] That may be the dumbest moment in achievement history for me is obsessively playing full auto.
[1615] Whatever.
[1616] I played a whole shitload of full auto, and I don't have the full thousand.
[1617] That's even worse.
[1618] Well, I only don't have them because of the multiplayer ones, which are the.
[1619] I'll help you with that.
[1620] The devil.
[1621] I don't think I have a copy of Full Auto.
[1622] Oh, well.
[1623] So the thing with Tron is that the disc attacks, the secondary attacks, all the Y button, triangle button stuff.
[1624] Stasis disc.
[1625] You really just are supposed to use that.
[1626] Oh, yeah.
[1627] The last three chapters, it was just bomb disc, bomb disc constantly.
[1628] That's all I ever did.
[1629] The weird secret is it ends up actually being heavy disc, heavy disc.
[1630] They tell you about these weaknesses for these enemies, but those are largely inaccurate.
[1631] Or in some cases, like with the guys that need to be hit with a stasis disc first, you just hit them with that first and then hit them with one heavy disc and they're dead.
[1632] When you're playing it that way and mowing through those guys, it starts to become a little more pleasant.
[1633] And when you get the auxiliary stasis and you can turn invisible, I thought that stuff was kind of fun.
[1634] But yeah, they do such a poor job of surfacing any of the magic of that combat system, of which there is not much.
[1635] That's an interesting choice, of course.
[1636] Yeah.
[1637] Well, I mean, the game is just like...
[1638] Like, openly infuriating the first time you get into combat.
[1639] Yeah, absolutely.
[1640] And the nth time.
[1641] But, I mean, I don't know if you remember me playing it, like, right before Thanksgiving when I was playing it here in the office when I was starting to work on the review.
[1642] But I was, like, controller throwing, like, F this game.
[1643] Like, oh, my God, what the hell?
[1644] How would they make a game like this?
[1645] Like, it was like that.
[1646] Well, and it's weird because it's just, it's...
[1647] It's crazy tough right out the gate.
[1648] And you're like, why is this so hard?
[1649] Yeah, like they go through a sizable tutorial sequence that says, like, here's how to block and here's how to counter.
[1650] And these guys are susceptible to counters and this is susceptible to this.
[1651] And, you know, they take you through all this stuff, but then that stuff never works quite right.
[1652] You still just feel like you're just getting your ass whipped.
[1653] Yeah.
[1654] For no good reason.
[1655] I feel like I understand these systems.
[1656] I feel like I'm not getting any better at this game and so on and so forth.
[1657] But as I started to level up more and more, I think maybe they expected players to be enjoying the multiplayer, like copious amounts of that in between single player sessions.
[1658] So they would be higher level, which mitigates a lot of that stuff.
[1659] Once you get about level 30.
[1660] The combat becomes very easy in the single player.
[1661] Like I was playing through, like after you beat it on hard, you unlock insane.
[1662] Yeah.
[1663] Which is only really hard when you're at that high level.
[1664] It's only really hard when you're in the tanks.
[1665] The tank sequences were insane.
[1666] They earned the name.
[1667] They earned the name in those specific spots.
[1668] Fantastic.
[1669] Yeah, that game, a lot of the design choices just seem really questionable with the way the combat works.
[1670] And like I said, the multiplayer stuff seems, I don't know, maybe it's just because I was, even playing against players that were also at the maximum level, like the whole thing in the multiplayer is I'm going to ride around this light cycle and drop bombs when I'm near guys and kill them.
[1671] Brad, did you play anything that you liked?
[1672] I just learned an important lesson.
[1673] It's that never bring up Tron Evolution, even in jest, because it will get discussed.
[1674] That will never happen again.
[1675] Yeah.
[1676] It's just such a weird game, and I spent so much fucking time.
[1677] Damn it.
[1678] It happened again.
[1679] Well, again, you brought it up.
[1680] I gave you the departure point.
[1681] I said, anything else, Brad?
[1682] It's like Candyman.
[1683] Don't say it.
[1684] Anything else, Brad?
[1685] Yeah, I played Rascals.
[1686] I played Island Island.
[1687] All that stuff has been discussed.
[1688] I played some Dead Space 2.
[1689] You can talk a little bit about that.
[1690] Started in on that.
[1691] I can talk a little bit about that.
[1692] What can you talk about?
[1693] First two chapters.
[1694] I'm pretty limited in what I can say about it.
[1695] Tell me everything.
[1696] I know I got a list of everything.
[1697] Jeff knows everything about it.
[1698] Because I guess they were kind enough to mail out an entire list of all the plot points.
[1699] Oh, like don't talk about this?
[1700] Yeah, it's like don't mention plot points.
[1701] Don't spoil the game in the review.
[1702] But like all of these very explicit points.
[1703] It might be the most explicit list of plot point spoilers I've ever seen sent out along with a review.
[1704] If Brad had opened that package, it would have been a real bummer.
[1705] Because I know names of characters and what they do and who you fight.
[1706] All this stuff is on this list.
[1707] Where the twists come from.
[1708] That's a bummer because the way it opens, especially if you didn't play that kind of not so great XBLA game they put out.
[1709] The motion comic plus minigames.
[1710] Yeah, because that actually dovetails right.
[1711] Right into this game.
[1712] Like the last moment of that is basically the first moment of this.
[1713] You are Isaac, though, right?
[1714] Yeah, you are.
[1715] You are.
[1716] Isaac Hayes.
[1717] That's on the list.
[1718] You can't mention that.
[1719] But, you know, actually, I don't think I can talk too much about this.
[1720] That's right.
[1721] I won't ask you any more questions.
[1722] Yo, is there space?
[1723] Yeah.
[1724] Is it dead?
[1725] It's pretty dead.
[1726] Are there necromorphs?
[1727] Yep.
[1728] Is it the second one?
[1729] Shoot their arms, legs, and heads off.
[1730] Yeah.
[1731] Did they turn it into Call of Duty?
[1732] No. Okay.
[1733] I need to go back and throw the first game in.
[1734] Oh, yeah.
[1735] I think it plays.
[1736] That was one of the twists, is Call of Duty.
[1737] No metal voter.
[1738] I think it plays pretty much exactly the same.
[1739] Do you stomp?
[1740] Do you stomp the ground?
[1741] You definitely stomp.
[1742] It is loud as shit.
[1743] All right.
[1744] I live right underneath my landlord, and I was starting to worry that I was going to get a phone call or something.
[1745] From stomping?
[1746] Like the base, just like the levels, the mix or whatever on the stomping.
[1747] It's insane.
[1748] It's ridiculous.
[1749] Great.
[1750] Does he do the death rattle by DJ Magic Mike?
[1751] So here's the weird thing.
[1752] I don't know if this is sort of a placebo effect or something, but Isaac is like an unmasked character in this.
[1753] You see his face.
[1754] He has dialogue.
[1755] The first game, he was always in this suit.
[1756] He was a silent protagonist.
[1757] Maybe they just went and hired the same guy who did all the grunts and gasps and stuff, but I feel like the tone of the guy's voice, you can totally hear him making all these grunting sounds into an inner tube like he did in the first game.
[1758] You know what I mean?
[1759] If you guys didn't play the game, you don't know what I'm talking about.
[1760] I know what you mean.
[1761] Vinny is very intimately aware with the way this guy goes like, oh, oh.
[1762] It's just like, oh.
[1763] Yeah, like it starts with a gasping.
[1764] It always sounds like it's in this weird sort of...
[1765] There's a lot of reverb on it.
[1766] So he is masked again, though, right?
[1767] I can't remember if I can talk about that.
[1768] Talk about it later.
[1769] There's like two chapters we can talk specifically about.
[1770] Is that two and three or something, I think?
[1771] Whatever.
[1772] They do a little bit with him out of the suit.
[1773] And then you're, like, right back in the suit.
[1774] So it's like, all right, I guess it's cool that you did that, but now it's just Dead Space again.
[1775] I'm curious to ask you more stuff, but I don't think this is the time to do it.
[1776] No. Not until I can really hold forth.
[1777] But just, like, early check -in here.
[1778] Feeling it?
[1779] It's super well put together.
[1780] It is a really well -made game.
[1781] Just production value -wise, like, it looks amazing.
[1782] It runs super smoothly.
[1783] It controls really well.
[1784] Like, it feels...
[1785] Like I said, as far as I remember, exactly like Dead Space, for better or worse.
[1786] I mean, that game played amazingly, but maybe you want them to have changed a little bit more.
[1787] I don't know.
[1788] I do remember in a demo that we had that...
[1789] Pacing.
[1790] It seemed a little faster.
[1791] People were moving a little faster.
[1792] Are you talking about the downloadable one they put out?
[1793] No, no, no. They gave us a demo.
[1794] Did they actually say that?
[1795] It seems like Isaac was moving a bit faster.
[1796] They said it was faster.
[1797] Especially in a game like this, I like to kind of creep along, sort of peer around corners and stuff.
[1798] There is no creep setting on the analog stick.
[1799] The slowest speed is a pretty full -on walk.
[1800] I couldn't remember if that was the same or not.
[1801] It seemed like he was trucking along a little faster.
[1802] Because in the first one, it was very much like...
[1803] Creep.
[1804] So this feels, in that sense, a little more linear and a little more kind of propelled.
[1805] Like, the first one was a lot of, like, you know, go to A deck to, like, fix the hydroponics setup.
[1806] Take the train.
[1807] Go back down to B deck and do this and blah, blah, blah.
[1808] It's, like, a lot of exploration and back and forth and stuff.
[1809] Like, this is just, like, straight line.
[1810] There's never any divergent path.
[1811] Like, you were just go, go, go, shoot.
[1812] We haven't finished it yet, right?
[1813] No, definitely not.
[1814] I'm, like, at the end of Chapter 2 out of...
[1815] what looks like 14, 15 chapters.
[1816] You never know.
[1817] Who knows?
[1818] It could definitely turn back into that, but so far it's just set piece after set piece, after scripted encounter, after a guy getting his head ripped off.
[1819] It's very much just like a straight -ahead action game, but we'll see where it goes from there.
[1820] Yeah, I'm pretty excited about that, actually.
[1821] One of my early year, looking forward to seeing it.
[1822] It seems really good so far.
[1823] I seem to remember in the first one, didn't they?
[1824] Didn't they end each chapter with you getting on that tram and, like, going to the next area?
[1825] Is that the chapter end?
[1826] Did you end up playing that game?
[1827] Yeah.
[1828] Okay.
[1829] Like the very artificial breakpoints between chapters.
[1830] Okay, right.
[1831] And it was like, go get the engine parts and go get them right.
[1832] But it's like, get on the tram, loading screen, next chapter.
[1833] This has a lot more fluid.
[1834] It's almost like a Half -Life style where it's just like...
[1835] Like dropping you into the next zone.
[1836] You don't even go into a loading screen.
[1837] It's just like as you're walking into a new area, it just pops up like chapter two.
[1838] Oh, cool.
[1839] You just keep going.
[1840] It's totally seamless, yeah.
[1841] I'll be curious to see, too.
[1842] I mean, the first one just had such amazing audio design.
[1843] Yeah.
[1844] Like all that outside the vacuum stuff.
[1845] Yeah.
[1846] All that stuff.
[1847] Kind of curious to see.
[1848] Yeah.
[1849] I mean, I've hit some zero G and some vacuum and that stuff.
[1850] Dino's still earning his keep over there.
[1851] Yeah.
[1852] I mean, the UI stuff looks great, but it looks pretty much exactly the same.
[1853] Drop the waypoint.
[1854] Everything about it.
[1855] Like the sound of picking up items and.
[1856] Just about everything about it feels like more dead space.
[1857] I mean, it's, like I said, super well made.
[1858] I can go for some more dead space.
[1859] Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely.
[1860] The weapon stuff still kind of contrived.
[1861] Like, you get your first laser in a pretty ridiculous way.
[1862] It's not mining equipment, but it's still not a weapon.
[1863] Interesting.
[1864] All right.
[1865] I don't know.
[1866] You'll see.
[1867] Yeah.
[1868] Soon enough.
[1869] That's coming out before the end of the month.
[1870] It's out in, like, two weeks, I think?
[1871] Yeah.
[1872] Two weeks.
[1873] 25th.
[1874] Get your ass to Mars.
[1875] Get your ass to the sprawl.
[1876] I'm interested to see what the hell they do.
[1877] I should play that motion comic because that story started getting real bizarre at the end of the first one.
[1878] I think it's worth playing just to kind of get some setup for this because it would feel like a complete non sequitur if you didn't.
[1879] And you played Extraction was the Wii one?
[1880] Yes.
[1881] Okay.
[1882] That was a prequel.
[1883] That was a prequel to the first Dead Space.
[1884] I feel like I need to catch up on the fiction because all I remember from the end of the first one was it going off the rails and some religious kind of...
[1885] Right, yeah.
[1886] So they lean really heavily on that unitology stuff.
[1887] They're almost setting up like this...
[1888] Maybe I can't...
[1889] Never mind.
[1890] That's it.
[1891] Come back in a couple weeks.
[1892] Pull the curtain.
[1893] Don't talk about it anymore.
[1894] Anything else?
[1895] That's it, Brad?
[1896] I think that's it.
[1897] All right.
[1898] While we're on the topic of EA games, EA Sports came through the Giant Bomb offices last week and gave me a demo of the new Tiger Woods game.
[1899] PGA?
[1900] Yes.
[1901] Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12.
[1902] PGA Tour.
[1903] The Masters.
[1904] Augusta.
[1905] Augusta.
[1906] Is that the full title?
[1907] I don't know what the actual...
[1908] I don't know that any of the Augusta's Master stuff is in the title, but the box says...
[1909] The Masters.
[1910] Can we talk about that box art a little bit?
[1911] Sure.
[1912] The image of Tiger is about...
[1913] three millimeters tall.
[1914] Oh, is there even an image of Tiger on it?
[1915] I thought it was literally a tiny silhouette in the distance of him.
[1916] Does it say Call of Duty on it or is it just Modern Warfare?
[1917] No, it still has the branding on it, but they are downplaying the Tiger and upplaying the Augustus stuff pretty significantly.
[1918] John Madden presents the Masters, Tiger Woods, PGA Tourer.
[1919] And I think it's the, like, this is the cleanest they could have handled this.
[1920] like, you know, EA and Tiger.
[1921] And they found something that, like, people that value golf games take pretty seriously.
[1922] This is meaningful.
[1923] Like, they found something that is a meaningful big deal for golf games, like, by getting Augusta.
[1924] This isn't just, like, them going, hey, here's the thing to distract.
[1925] It's like, no, like, Augusta, the Masters.
[1926] So what is Augusta?
[1927] That's basically the fucking Super Bowl for golf.
[1928] The Masters is the fucking jacket.
[1929] The green jacket.
[1930] The green jacket.
[1931] So it's a tournament.
[1932] Yes.
[1933] So EA's been making golf games for at least a good, like, what, 12, 15 years?
[1934] Longer than that.
[1935] They've been doing it since golf games.
[1936] I mean, they were making PGA Tour games before Tiger came along for a long time.
[1937] Is this thing such a big get that they've just now gotten it?
[1938] Like, is it really that hard to lock down the license?
[1939] It sounded like from talking to them, yes.
[1940] Okay, so one of the points they made is they actually, for the scorecards between rounds, are actually the masters at Augusta scorecards that they use.
[1941] They said that the Augusta people sent them one of these so they could scan it.
[1942] And then asked that it be sent back.
[1943] Like they did not want a physical one of these things around.
[1944] Like the head gardener or whatever at Augusta was like emailing them and letting them know, all right, we're putting in some azaleas here and here on this course.
[1945] So if you can update the course design to – no, it wasn't Bill Murray.
[1946] Nice pull though.
[1947] So, like, yeah, like crazy control things.
[1948] I also think they probably want a shitload of money.
[1949] And I imagine they're like, well, we're already spending a shitload of money on Tiger.
[1950] So we're good.
[1951] But now they're like, oh, fuck.
[1952] Now we need to spend a shitload of money on the Masters.
[1953] Put something else on the box.
[1954] But imagine, like, you had one of those Augusta cards and filled in your fucking score and posted it on, like, Twitter and be like, check what I did at the Masters.
[1955] Like, it's official.
[1956] This is an official card.
[1957] I mean, I guess for people who are really serious.
[1958] Where's my jacket?
[1959] If you're really serious about golf, there's an element of fantasy fulfillment of getting to play this course, right?
[1960] Absolutely.
[1961] That's a big deal.
[1962] And they have performances from previous Masters, and when the Masters happens this year, which is going to be right around the time that the game comes out, they're going to have...
[1963] Basically live updating stats on that stuff that you can compete against.
[1964] So they're going pretty deep with the Masters stuff, and it makes sense.
[1965] And they're also, what else?
[1966] It's got PGA guys, right?
[1967] Well, Tiger's not invisible.
[1968] No, there's still plenty of Tiger stuff in there.
[1969] He is still in the game.
[1970] The opening of that game is actually you playing as Tiger at one of the Masters.
[1971] The one he won, I don't know.
[1972] I like video game golf.
[1973] I do not actually follow real golf.
[1974] Real golf is crazy.
[1975] A lot of this stuff is kind of immaterial to me. It's more of just like, is it still fun?
[1976] There's a lot of boning in real golf.
[1977] For me to fucking sit around on a Sunday morning.
[1978] I actually went back over the weekend and played a bunch of 11 after they came through last week with 12.
[1979] Very relaxing video game golf.
[1980] I forgot.
[1981] Oh, you know what?
[1982] For about two weekends every year, I fucking love video game golf.
[1983] It's just great.
[1984] It's just what I need.
[1985] I like the sound.
[1986] Well, IRM skins game.
[1987] You know what I'm saying?
[1988] The other thing they're adding is some caddy assist stuff to help you.
[1989] Oh, caddy.
[1990] Oh, caddy.
[1991] Yeah, it was like some dude being like, nice shot.
[1992] Yeah, that's right.
[1993] Oh, yeah.
[1994] Why don't you take the four woods?
[1995] Here's your wedge.
[1996] I believe you can get a caddy caddy if you so desire, though.
[1997] It's a DLC.
[1998] That's forthcoming still.
[1999] So there's that.
[2000] Basically, it's kind of their attempt to, like with all EA Sports games, of accessibility, accessibility, accessibility.
[2001] So I was surprised at what they're not adding, which is motion controls.
[2002] None, right?
[2003] No, I mean, it's already got – it has Move support.
[2004] Last year's has Move support.
[2005] This year's has it built in.
[2006] But no Connect or – No Connect.
[2007] And it has – I mean, Wii version has had Motion Plus for years.
[2008] Right.
[2009] So it has everything.
[2010] It just doesn't have Connect.
[2011] Oh, so this year it does have Move.
[2012] It had Move last year.
[2013] They patched in Move in 11, and it will ship with Move.
[2014] And they basically just said, like, yeah, we're just refining it and first -person mode.
[2015] That's kind of cool.
[2016] As being a thing, which I imagine – This is better for headshots.
[2017] It's ruining the game.
[2018] It's ruining golf.
[2019] Yeah, I know.
[2020] I'm like 30 under.
[2021] But the guy from Tiburon basically said that, yeah, we had a little bit of time to patch this into 11, but now we've had more time with it.
[2022] So it's just we're not radically changing the way the move stuff works.
[2023] It just tied it up.
[2024] It's better.
[2025] Tired it up.
[2026] And same with the Motion Plus stuff.
[2027] But I think it looks better.
[2028] They kind of made a bit of a to -do over the new grass that they have.
[2029] I was going to just ask you.
[2030] Procedurally generated grass.
[2031] Speed grass.
[2032] If you can't make, you know, like that's kind of the – 70 % of golf is grass.
[2033] It's the burden of all sports.
[2034] If you're playing right, 100 % of golf is grass.
[2035] I'm not playing right.
[2036] The burden of all sports games and to a certain degree golf in particular is the best that can look like is a golf course.
[2037] There's really – like other video games, when you get into fantasy and sci -fi, you can make unimaginable things real.
[2038] But when you're dealing with something that is real and you're just trying to make it that good.
[2039] And that's why they need to bring back zany golf.
[2040] I want to see that jumping cheeseburger over the hole.
[2041] I was actually just thinking the other day about all of the awful zany.
[2042] You made air quotes.
[2043] Yeah, that was air quotes.
[2044] Zany PS2 golf games that exist.
[2045] Like Cyber Tiger?
[2046] No, because that was N64.
[2047] N64, too.
[2048] I was thinking more along the lines of the Aqua Teen Hunger Force golf game.
[2049] I was thinking of Outlaw Golf.
[2050] Oh, yeah.
[2051] Try not to think about Outlaw Golf.
[2052] You can help it.
[2053] Outlaw Golf.
[2054] Outlaw Volleyball.
[2055] Yep.
[2056] I believe there were other Outlaw products.
[2057] Heavy hitters.
[2058] So the hitters of the arcade sports kingdom.
[2059] We really don't need Zanny Golf.
[2060] Specific Zanny Golf, like the actual game.
[2061] Oh, the brand name.
[2062] I believe that is the name of it, isn't it?
[2063] It sounds like a name.
[2064] It was a Genesis game.
[2065] It was PC.
[2066] I think I remember the PC version.
[2067] And there was one hole specifically that there was just a giant hamburger covering the hole.
[2068] Oh, yeah.
[2069] I remember that.
[2070] You had to hit the button on the controller rhythmically to start making the burger jump.
[2071] And it would come apart through its pieces.
[2072] So you'd see the cheese and the lettuce and stuff as it was hopping.
[2073] And after you got it going good enough, you would take the shot because it would not be covering the hole anymore.
[2074] But then you'd have to time it.
[2075] And it was stupid.
[2076] And that's great.
[2077] That's in Augusta, right?
[2078] Can't wait for that.
[2079] Actually, one of the things they said is no made -up courses at all.
[2080] What about cheeseburgers?
[2081] Those are real.
[2082] No made -up cheeseburgers either.
[2083] Only real.
[2084] Only real cheeseburgers.
[2085] They mo -capped a bunch of different cheeseburgers.
[2086] Jumping.
[2087] Did the creative player stuff in there show you any of that?
[2088] They didn't show us any of the creative stuff, but it kind of sounded like a lot of that's going to be...
[2089] Like the EA face map.
[2090] They're going to use their same.
[2091] And Tiger uses its own.
[2092] Tiger's tech is different from the UFC or the Fight Night tech.
[2093] Which is unfortunate because that stuff is the best.
[2094] I have not seen anything that does it as well as...
[2095] I'm sorry, not UFC.
[2096] MMA.
[2097] My apologies to brand managers the world over.
[2098] People at EA and THQ.
[2099] It didn't work.
[2100] That's what they get for not getting the license.
[2101] Just had a heart.
[2102] But on both ends, both just had heart attacks.
[2103] Someone at THQ is like, they didn't have it.
[2104] It's not.
[2105] It's Pepsi, not Coke.
[2106] Fuck.
[2107] God damn it.
[2108] It was a Coke.
[2109] Just call it Cola.
[2110] Just call it Cola.
[2111] All right.
[2112] It's fine.
[2113] It's a Coke, okay.
[2114] Strikeforce Cola.
[2115] Everybody's happy.
[2116] Hey, just a really bad interjection here.
[2117] Yes, please.
[2118] I can't remember if you said the Kinect does not take the place of the Xbox Live Vision camera.
[2119] It does not take the place of the Xbox Live Vision camera.
[2120] I couldn't remember if I dreamed that or not.
[2121] Some games have patched it in, like Def Jam Rap Star.
[2122] So it can take the place if you patch it in.
[2123] Yes.
[2124] Okay.
[2125] But it is not an automatic thing.
[2126] Okay.
[2127] I suddenly remembered that.
[2128] How crazy is that?
[2129] Crazy.
[2130] That's what I thought I dreamed it.
[2131] It's kind of weird that the dashboard thing doesn't do that.
[2132] That's pretty weird.
[2133] Like for like the dashboard background effects, you still got to have the vision camera.
[2134] Uno still requires the vision camera.
[2135] I'm sure you had to use, I mean, there are different API hooks or whatever for different camera devices.
[2136] So like pre -Kinect games, it's not too surprising.
[2137] But it seems kind of dumb that the Kinect doesn't have something that just looks like that.
[2138] Emulator.
[2139] Just like, oh yeah, I'm that too.
[2140] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[2141] I'm a camera.
[2142] Just push that shit through.
[2143] I can do that.
[2144] Let's go.
[2145] Well, until they fix Uno, none of us can rest easy.
[2146] Sorry.
[2147] I mean, whatever.
[2148] It's still the only thing that I use the live vision camera.
[2149] Burnout Paradise.
[2150] That was pretty good.
[2151] That wasn't bad.
[2152] Well, I was thinking with the face capture stuff.
[2153] Yeah.
[2154] But the camera fidelity is no better on the Kinect than it is on the live vision.
[2155] It's like just two visions, right, basically?
[2156] I mean, same resolution, each camera.
[2157] I don't think there's two cameras.
[2158] I think it is a higher resolution, but still not high enough to do what you want it to do.
[2159] Isn't it two optical cameras and an infrared?
[2160] I think.
[2161] I don't know.
[2162] We plugged in the PS3 or the PlayStation Eye into your Mac, and that thing looked great.
[2163] And then we plugged it into the PS3, and it looks like poop.
[2164] Yeah, that thing.
[2165] That camera can do all right.
[2166] It can actually look really nice, except when you plug it into the PS3, it looks like shit.
[2167] I was playing BeatSketcher.
[2168] Oh, really?
[2169] How is that?
[2170] I watched videos of that and thought, man, I would really like to play that.
[2171] We'll check some out this week.
[2172] We're going to do a little PSN move game roundup.
[2173] Yeah, I need to get a move stuff set up at home.
[2174] I have that room set up for Kinect, but I have not.
[2175] Put your move stuff in there.
[2176] Put my move stuff in there because I don't have move stuff.
[2177] You do not like to move it, move it?
[2178] I do not like to move it, move it.
[2179] But after seeing that BeatSketcher video, I almost ran out and bought all that stuff.
[2180] And then I was like, man, I'm going to have to move my PS3 out of the main room that I play games in.
[2181] And then I'll have to use this other room that I barely ever use.
[2182] But that'll be 3D, and I was like, ah.
[2183] Oh, yeah, that'll be 3D.
[2184] You're like, Calgon, take me away.
[2185] Yeah, pretty much.
[2186] I just gave up on the whole thing.
[2187] But then I was at Costco, and they had a move charging stand.
[2188] And I was like, oh, right, move.
[2189] I could totally bow that stuff right here.
[2190] But they didn't have any of it.
[2191] Plenty of standalone connects, I guess I should say.
[2192] But they had no move gear there whatsoever other than this charging stand.
[2193] To get us back, I think Tiger 12 looks pretty good.
[2194] Does it move it, move it?
[2195] It does not.
[2196] Wait, no, it does.
[2197] It moves it.
[2198] It moves it.
[2199] Yeah, it doesn't.
[2200] It's not connected.
[2201] Yeah, it is not connected.
[2202] Yeah, like then coming through and giving the demo, my immediate feeling was like, man, I want to go fucking play some Tiger.
[2203] And then I did.
[2204] I played a bunch of Tiger 11 last year.
[2205] Now you don't have to buy 12.
[2206] You got the golf out of your system.
[2207] When is that?
[2208] What's their schedule like for golf games?
[2209] Like late spring?
[2210] Yeah, March, April.
[2211] I can't remember off the top of my head.
[2212] I'm sorry.
[2213] This year.
[2214] Yes.
[2215] Soon.
[2216] Less than 12 months since they shipped the last one because they shipped the last one in June of 2010.
[2217] So they're doing that pretty quickly.
[2218] Hello, Targa.
[2219] Indeed.
[2220] What else happened?
[2221] I finished Puzzle Agent.
[2222] Telltale's Puzzle Agent.
[2223] Oh, God, that's right.
[2224] I played some Back to the Future.
[2225] Oh, good for you.
[2226] How is that?
[2227] I didn't play it.
[2228] I liked it.
[2229] It didn't really grab me so firmly.
[2230] I enjoyed it.
[2231] Got me good.
[2232] It's kind of slow to start.
[2233] I mean, it's an adventure game.
[2234] Yeah, I don't know.
[2235] Maybe you guys are just more used to the Telltale style than I am.
[2236] I mean, yeah, they make adventure games the way they kind of always made adventure games.
[2237] If you have not played a traditional style adventure game in a while, adventure games are kind of slow.
[2238] You've got to spend a lot of time talking to people.
[2239] Except Puzzle Agent, right?
[2240] Yeah, except for Puzzle Agent, which just cuts fucking everything down to the basics, which I really appreciate.
[2241] Puzzles and agents.
[2242] Puzzles, car, box, string, go.
[2243] I don't know.
[2244] But, I mean, it doesn't go to such lengths as your traditional puzzle game to couch everything into the world.
[2245] It's just like, here's a puzzle.
[2246] Like Leighton style of just like, all right, yeah, it kind of makes some sense because matchsticks, but there, puzzle, go.
[2247] And the end of that episode made me bummed that I don't believe there will ever be another one of those because it ends on a nice.
[2248] I never finished it.
[2249] You never finished it?
[2250] No. Oh, it's great.
[2251] You should really finish it.
[2252] I want to.
[2253] Where were you?
[2254] No recollection?
[2255] The sheriff.
[2256] You just stuck on the sheriff?
[2257] Somebody died in a factory and I got to figure it out.
[2258] How long is it?
[2259] Puzzle agent?
[2260] Yeah.
[2261] I don't know.
[2262] Is it like an hour or two long?
[2263] Three hours.
[2264] So it's actually pretty decent.
[2265] It depends on how long you spend on a puzzle.
[2266] Yeah, sure.
[2267] Yeah.
[2268] That's the brutal part is that like it goes through this.
[2269] So a lot of the puzzles are like you finish the puzzle and it's like, okay, clearly I have completed this puzzle.
[2270] Hit submit.
[2271] After that, it then like spins around and takes you basically like it folds up.
[2272] The puzzle like it was a piece of paper and puts it into an envelope.
[2273] And then there's, like, a big stamp before it gets shipped off, I guess, to the agency or whatever that either says, like, approved or denied.
[2274] Oh, man. And so you have to go through this lengthy thing.
[2275] So sometimes, like, clearly I'm good.
[2276] But sometimes, like...
[2277] Well, it's kind of a logic puzzle of like questions of like, all right, you know, there's eight fish on this line and inside each one of these fish is one of the fish that's smaller than it.
[2278] Each fish can only hold one.
[2279] Which of these lines has five fish on it?
[2280] It's like, you know, fucking word problem stuff, basically.
[2281] So you have to go, okay, I think that's the answer.
[2282] I worked out the logic in my head, so I think this is what it is.
[2283] But you have to go through this whole lengthy thing before you find out.
[2284] Did I do it?
[2285] Did I do it?
[2286] Fuck!
[2287] No, I didn't.
[2288] And every time that you fuck it up, you're like, okay, let me rethink this.
[2289] And you're like, all right.
[2290] Here's the logic.
[2291] I know what's up.
[2292] Have you played any of the Layton games?
[2293] I haven't.
[2294] It's been a long time.
[2295] Totally the same thing.
[2296] There's about three seconds of tension as the camera zooms in.
[2297] They're either very happy or very sad.
[2298] Fuck you.
[2299] It's a good like, and you're like, oh, God, that's the worst.
[2300] But really enjoyed.
[2301] Really, really great, great voice work.
[2302] I have to check that out.
[2303] Some nice puzzles.
[2304] It is very Layton -esque.
[2305] It's a Western Layton.
[2306] And, like, we interviewed the guy.
[2307] Cowboys?
[2308] Yeah, we interviewed the guy.
[2309] I love cowboys.
[2310] Who did, like, the art. He was a former Telltale guy.
[2311] I can't remember what the connection was anyway.
[2312] Anyway, we interviewed a guy at PAX about it, and he pretty explicitly said, like, yeah, I was playing Layton, and I really liked that.
[2313] So I wanted to make a game like that.
[2314] I'm like, appreciate your candor on this topic.
[2315] And it shows.
[2316] And that's fine.
[2317] Like, it doesn't need to be entirely original, but I think you can get that thing super cheap on a billion different platforms.
[2318] I think it would be the polite thing to do if you're making the first installment in a franchise whose future is uncertain to maybe not end on a cliffhanger.
[2319] I don't know.
[2320] It seemed like it was supposed to be serialized, so I could see why.
[2321] Yeah, but didn't its entire existence hinge on its success?
[2322] Yeah.
[2323] It's a pilot.
[2324] But you want to make something that has a hook for the next episode, so that if it gets picked up, you're not just like, okay, we have to contrive some reason why there's a second episode.
[2325] But it's just the worst one.
[2326] Even when TV shows get canceled without a proper ending, it's just...
[2327] You need some closure.
[2328] You're just mad at Song of Fire and Ice, aren't you?
[2329] Game of Thrones.
[2330] Let's not get into that.
[2331] George R. R. Martin.
[2332] That old asshole is going to die.
[2333] Brad just finally watched the last season of Lost.
[2334] That's what's going on here.
[2335] So what happened?
[2336] What the fuck?
[2337] Stupid church.
[2338] Never actually seen Lost.
[2339] I played, though, a whole bunch more Fallout New Vegas.
[2340] Finished Fallout New Vegas.
[2341] Four times.
[2342] Because there are four different – Did you just like reload quickly?
[2343] Four different – well, so I played – I was actually really, really happy with my experience with Fallout New Vegas because like Fallout 3 had the issue of you found yourself in the end game without realizing it.
[2344] And so it's like, oh, I finished the game.
[2345] Like, okay, well now let me go back to that save and get the ending that I actually want to get.
[2346] Aside from a little bit of like mid -game kind of messing around, I'd first go through.
[2347] the ending that I wanted, and it played out the way I had hoped it would.
[2348] So I was really super satisfied with that.
[2349] And I felt like the ending that I got was the right ending.
[2350] Even though I went back and then played all the other endings, I'm like, oh, okay, I see where this is valid, and this is valid.
[2351] Are they pretty short choices to get you to the other endings?
[2352] They can't.
[2353] I think depending on how you play that game, they can be.
[2354] Because I had been kind of avoiding the main story stuff.
[2355] for a lot of it and did a lot of side quests.
[2356] I think it was also actually kind of helped because one of the things that I ended up hitting was this weird bottleneck where in like three of the four stories...
[2357] You mean endings or threads or something?
[2358] Well, yeah.
[2359] So kind of like there's a point of no return within each of the four.
[2360] It's kind of different factions.
[2361] So it's like, yeah, it's like if you work too much with any one faction, the others will turn against you.
[2362] But even that is well before the kind of end game.
[2363] Wait a minute.
[2364] And that was kind of frustrating to me because I was hoping I could kind of string all of them along right up to the very end and then finish it one way and go back and finish it the other three ways.
[2365] But instead, it failed me on three missions all at once and then saved.
[2366] So this is four discrete quest lines.
[2367] Yeah.
[2368] It's not one story where at some point you have to pick one and go.
[2369] No. I had four different quests going at one time, but if I followed one of them to a certain point, the other three would fail out.
[2370] Which is what happened.
[2371] If you charted it, it's like four different lines going parallel.
[2372] But the thing is that I had gotten to the point, Jeff, where once you get past that point of no return with one of the factions, there's only like three things to do before you get to the end.
[2373] The actual end sequence.
[2374] At least there was for me. Because I had already taken care of one of the families on the strip.
[2375] And, I mean, there's like two other factions out in the wild that you have to concern yourself with.
[2376] And then there's just kind of – So I was trying to get everybody to like me because there was no real taking care of families on the strip.
[2377] So when I got to my point of no return, I felt like there was still significant stuff that I had to do.
[2378] Oh, I mean you have to make choices as far as like, all right, am I going to be cool with these guys or am I going to dust these motherfuckers?
[2379] But the actual activities that you need to get through are pretty quick.
[2380] So I was basically – I had it – For me, the ending sequence, the final action sequence – before I speeched my way through the actual ending, the big kind of climax of that story, if you will, was practically broken from a combat perspective.
[2381] And the thought of doing that even a second time.
[2382] Like hard?
[2383] Yeah.
[2384] Oh, wow.
[2385] Like broken hard, like I'm crouching and running in this door and healing up with all this water and then walking out and firing five more shots.
[2386] Except for one occasion.
[2387] Except for one of the four playthroughs.
[2388] The other three – and I was not combat spec'd at all.
[2389] I was like pure speech.
[2390] I was roughly – Literally walking through it.
[2391] Literally just like – just walking right through it.
[2392] All of my time at the dam was probably the worst part of that entire game.
[2393] Maybe they patched it.
[2394] Because it was like all my time at the dam, complete non -issue.
[2395] You didn't fight at all?
[2396] I barely fought.
[2397] I didn't have to.
[2398] I was surrounded by – Characters from multiple factions that were firing upon me on site.
[2399] Oh, well, see, they were all my friends.
[2400] However I managed to play it out.
[2401] As soon as it cut off contact with other factions in the quest line I was going through, that did not happen.
[2402] I had good allies for all those.
[2403] And, yeah, Yes Man was a delight.
[2404] I love that character.
[2405] And I was really surprised to find out that that was Dave Foley doing the voice of that character.
[2406] Yeah, I didn't know that until you told me this morning.
[2407] I don't know who that is yet.
[2408] Yeah, you haven't gotten there, which means that you haven't played that much Fallout New Vegas.
[2409] I played a bunch of it.
[2410] No. I played it the wrong way.
[2411] If you didn't get to that part, you haven't played that much.
[2412] I guess not.
[2413] That's a pretty early story beat.
[2414] Maybe.
[2415] Yeah.
[2416] I don't know.
[2417] Well, because you haven't even gotten to, like, finding Benny.
[2418] I search schools that have been abandoned.
[2419] That's what I do.
[2420] I'm a wastelander, man. Yeah.
[2421] I don't know.
[2422] I learned after.
[2423] I feel like I just tore through this game compared to Fallout 3.
[2424] Personally, it's a smaller game.
[2425] It does not have the same scope as Fallout 3 as far as just how huge the world is.
[2426] I think a lot of the storytelling is a whole lot better, and it's maybe a more compelling kind of scenario that they set up for it.
[2427] But I found it was a lot easier to see what you wanted to see.
[2428] And I had learned my lessons from Fallout 3 of don't just go fucking wander around in the wastes.
[2429] It's like be objective oriented and you'll have a faster and more fun time with this.
[2430] Wander.
[2431] So yeah, so I finished it and then I finished it three more times.
[2432] It only took me like maybe an hour or two of additional play for like each of the other endings.
[2433] Is the DLC out for the way I had?
[2434] Yeah, and I started playing that.
[2435] It's not so good.
[2436] The dead money.
[2437] Which is too bad because it seems very promising.
[2438] Does it have something to do with ghosts?
[2439] Yes.
[2440] All right.
[2441] It might.
[2442] It might have something to do with ghosts.
[2443] It was like they have a new casino that's outside of town.
[2444] So it's kind of the pit style where there's a hole here and then you take the hole and then you go to a new place.
[2445] But then they also strip all of your companions and all your stuff.
[2446] So it's kind of contriving.
[2447] So it's like Anchorage.
[2448] It's contriving the difficulty so that you can't just come in there with some crazy weapons that throw off the balance, basically.
[2449] I just wanted to have the save game and the ending of the original game and stuff are handled with the DLC.
[2450] Same as it was for Fallout 3 before they patched it to have no ending.
[2451] So you just have to go back to an old save?
[2452] Go back and load a save.
[2453] That's terrible.
[2454] And you also have to be, they suggest, this actually kind of makes this piece of content a little more fucked.
[2455] They say don't play this if you aren't at level 20 yet.
[2456] And Fallout New Vegas only goes up to 30.
[2457] So you basically have a 10 -level window in which you should play this before you finish the game, basically.
[2458] Weird.
[2459] I wonder if DLC 3 will remove the ending.
[2460] If they just followed that exact same blueprint.
[2461] Oh, we learned nothing!
[2462] Yay!
[2463] That would be pretty funny.
[2464] I don't know.
[2465] I feel like, you know...
[2466] New Vegas ends and it's fine.
[2467] I guess I don't really feel that compelled.
[2468] I don't feel like there's much to be gained other than like, yo, go do more missions.
[2469] Yeah.
[2470] From returning to the world of the Mojave Wasteland after the story wraps.
[2471] Which really kind of just speaks to how much more significant the main story thread in New Vegas is.
[2472] Compared to what you got.
[2473] I think it would be really interesting.
[2474] If they constructed some DLC.
[2475] That continued on past that.
[2476] And took your choices into account.
[2477] Because I think that stuff.
[2478] Your impact on the strip.
[2479] Is profound.
[2480] And seeing that in action.
[2481] I think would be exciting.
[2482] Just talk a lot.
[2483] That's all you need to do.
[2484] New engine next game.
[2485] Seems to work.
[2486] Talk a lot.
[2487] Works for this podcast.
[2488] Indeed.
[2489] We have 100 in talking.
[2490] Just get the zoom in on everybody's face.
[2491] But like 30 in speech.
[2492] You guys want to move on to some news?
[2493] Talk about a little news?
[2494] What's going on in the world?
[2495] People have hacked the PlayStation 3, you guys.
[2496] ROMs.
[2497] All those Linux ISOs that you've been torrenting, you can finally install them.
[2498] ROMs.
[2499] On your PlayStation.
[2500] All these Super Nintendo games I've been illegally bootlegging.
[2501] ROMs.
[2502] Jeff, do you have any sense of why or if this is a big deal?
[2503] Well, the big deal about it is that they have apparently found, they've reverse engineered a lot of Sony's...
[2504] Encryption, like algorithm key stuff.
[2505] Yeah.
[2506] Crypto.
[2507] I'm just going to keep saying words.
[2508] Just say crypto.
[2509] That's a shame.
[2510] So they can just say, they can just make anything look like Sony.
[2511] Look like it's real.
[2512] Yeah.
[2513] They can make firmware updates look like they're real.
[2514] Yeah.
[2515] Wait a minute.
[2516] Are you saying that if they were to sign and release something that...
[2517] If you had a vanilla out -of -box PS3, you could go download that thing and slap it on a USB stick and run it.
[2518] Man, that is terrifying.
[2519] More or less.
[2520] So it's not even like I have to go and modify my stuff.
[2521] They just have to include whatever this code is.
[2522] There's no hardware side to this thing.
[2523] I had no idea it was that serious.
[2524] That's crazy.
[2525] And this is the same dude that...
[2526] I can unbox the iPhone, right?
[2527] He's one of the dudes.
[2528] Part of that team.
[2529] He's not the original jailbreaker, but definitely came up with some new and exciting ways to jailbreak iPhones.
[2530] Is he the one that I heard was lobbying for a job at Sony?
[2531] He did actually, as part of this, one of the things he posted was just like, hey, if anyone wants to make their next console secure, you can hire me. It would be fun to do this from the other side.
[2532] I think is the exact wording or closer to the wording of what he had to say.
[2533] It wasn't necessarily Sony should hire me or I'll do this, this, this.
[2534] Nothing like that.
[2535] I was trying to blackmail, but I mean that's – And a lot of people are pinning this or the people that did this and are affiliated with it or the people that are part of that scene are trying to say like this all came about because Sony removed Linux, removed other OS support, which now they've apparently hacked back in.
[2536] because they're saying that a lot of this stuff is actually kind of trivial.
[2537] They just never thought to look because there was already an open hole to run home -brewed software.
[2538] Legitimately.
[2539] Yeah, the validity of that, who can say, really?
[2540] Forced my hand.
[2541] Yeah, that's a beautiful story and all that, but I don't know.
[2542] It's usually not that cut and dry.
[2543] It's still piracy.
[2544] No, it's actually not yet.
[2545] No one is running bootleg PS3 games with this stuff yet.
[2546] But they can.
[2547] Not with the stuff that's out there right now.
[2548] It will probably eventually lead to that point.
[2549] I mean, isn't it illegal to, like, your end user agreement to modify the software on it?
[2550] Courts recently upheld your right to jailbreak your iPhone.
[2551] Really?
[2552] Yeah.
[2553] Cool.
[2554] Let's do it.
[2555] Who's got the key?
[2556] Make some fucking unstable shit.
[2557] Mine's totally been jailbroken for a long time.
[2558] So does updating it to the latest.
[2559] But I feel like you reboot your phone constantly.
[2560] No, no. Not anymore.
[2561] So if you own the thing, you can do whatever you want with it in terms of...
[2562] That's the theory.
[2563] And I imagine that that would get upheld by a court if it...
[2564] I kind of agree with that on principle.
[2565] Yeah, I do too.
[2566] The thing is that it always ends up getting tied with like, this guy is using this defense because we caught him selling bootleg games.
[2567] And that guy always gets nailed to the wall.
[2568] It's too much legal theory for us to say anything here one way or the other.
[2569] But yeah, it seems like it's the same kind of deal as your car.
[2570] You can put whatever motor you want in your car as long as it passes smog and all that.
[2571] that sort of stuff.
[2572] You can paint your car whatever color you want.
[2573] As long as you're not bootlegging Nintendo games.
[2574] Right.
[2575] As long as your car does not run SNES tapes, everything will be fine.
[2576] So you can make an emulator.
[2577] I don't want that car if it doesn't run SNES tapes.
[2578] You can make an emulator, but you can't bootleg the game for it, basically, right?
[2579] Yeah, exactly.
[2580] Emulators are legal, but the trafficking in the ROMs.
[2581] The intellectual property of that.
[2582] Yeah, that's the legal part.
[2583] That's where they get you.
[2584] So I could see some scenario under which modifying a PlayStation 3 like this would be fully legal.
[2585] Until then, it's not – I don't believe it's a DMCA exception just yet.
[2586] So who knows?
[2587] But I guess the whole problem with these keys is that it's the stuff that Sony would use to create an update to prevent you from doing this.
[2588] So with them having – with that in the hands of the public.
[2589] With that being shared in a Google Doc now, as opposed to being buried deep within a PlayStation 3, it sounds like as long as you are careful about which updates you accept and don't install whatever one Sony can come up with that will undo it or something, you might theoretically be able to do this forever and there might not be anything they can do to stop it.
[2590] And that's the part that gets scary because at some point – and also all the PSP keys were in with this too.
[2591] PSP piracy has been a big problem for a long time.
[2592] But this ain't going to help.
[2593] So if you want to create the death of something like the Dreamcast or the PS3, there you go.
[2594] Yeah.
[2595] If you guys wonder what happened to the Dreamcast.
[2596] Dreamcast is going down already.
[2597] Piracy was not the end of the Dreamcast.
[2598] It was a good final nail in the coffin.
[2599] Like, oh, here's a perfectly legitimate business reason for us to abandon this platform as opposed to our gut feeling, which is already saying, stop.
[2600] Zero protection on any software released for the platform?
[2601] Well...
[2602] Probably not going to do anything with that.
[2603] Yeah.
[2604] At the same time as the CD burners are completely saturating the market.
[2605] Yeah.
[2606] Bad combination.
[2607] Yeah.
[2608] Who would ever burn a CD?
[2609] That's so hard.
[2610] That's crazy.
[2611] It did not help the Dreamcast.
[2612] I will give you that.
[2613] Did not help.
[2614] Well, it's not like mod chips on the PlayStation were tough.
[2615] But at least that prevented casual.
[2616] That's the real problem with all this stuff.
[2617] It's not piracy that's the issue.
[2618] It's casual piracy that's the issue.
[2619] It's, I'm going to give a copy of this to my friend, and it's super easy to do so.
[2620] That's where it gets bad.
[2621] And that was the big problem with the Dreamcast, is it became that easy.
[2622] The PSP has become that easy for some people.
[2623] And if the PS3 becomes that easy, yeah, it's a huge deterrent to developers.
[2624] Yeah, I was going to say, maybe not even so much to Sony, but the developers are like, hey, it's scary.
[2625] I would not call the PSP a vibrant platform, let's say.
[2626] And piracy has been a severe issue on that thing for some time.
[2627] Yeah, years and years.
[2628] I mean, you still get a lot of PC people saying that.
[2629] Is it one of the reasons why it's tough to put your thing over to the PC?
[2630] Yeah.
[2631] No, fear of piracy on the PC is why Ubisoft does crazy shit.
[2632] Yeah.
[2633] Like all that stuff, all the DRM stuff that you see is because no one fucking pays for games on that platform.
[2634] Well, they're definitely afraid of it or afraid of being pirated.
[2635] Some people do, but not enough.
[2636] Yeah, I don't know.
[2637] It's like we haven't run the numbers on it.
[2638] We don't really know exactly what the business.
[2639] loss is on that stuff.
[2640] Because it always gets inflated anytime anyone says, we lost this much due to piracy.
[2641] But it's the fear of that.
[2642] It's the fear of that.
[2643] And it's not unfounded on the platforms where the fear exists.
[2644] I mean, Nintendo straight up released new hardware with the DS to get around basically the piracy problem they were having with the original and the light.
[2645] And that didn't fully solve it.
[2646] That's still an ongoing thing.
[2647] That platform does alright.
[2648] It does.
[2649] It does all right.
[2650] Well, that's the thing is you have to buy hardware to make it go.
[2651] Yeah.
[2652] You can't just pop in.
[2653] With a system that's got a hard drive in it or like a PSP Go or something like that that's got nice internal storage ready to hold your bootleg games.
[2654] becomes a larger issue.
[2655] When you don't have to do that hardware modification.
[2656] You don't have to know how to use a soldering iron.
[2657] Also, Nintendo makes money on the DS.
[2658] Like, the DS itself.
[2659] So it's not like we're like, okay, the PS3 was a loss leader, now we need to sell a bunch of fucking games to make up the difference.
[2660] I think the business of the PS3 has changed enough to where they might actually be.
[2661] It's probably, if not, yeah, you're right.
[2662] It's at least closer at this point.
[2663] So it's not quite as savage as it maybe was back at the launch.
[2664] If this had happened the week of the launch of PS3, there would be no PS3.
[2665] We'd be done.
[2666] I feel kind of bad for Sony for essentially being punished for kind of doing the right thing, which was creating a relatively open system with a lot of open standards where it's like, you know, if you want to...
[2667] Use your own Bluetooth headset or your own USB headset or hard drive or you name it, like keyboard, whatever.
[2668] Yeah.
[2669] It's one of the few times where Sony's been kind of standards -based with some of that stuff.
[2670] Yeah, because generally they rely all on their own proprietary formats and stuff.
[2671] And the ability to install the other OS stuff was really – I never used it.
[2672] It was nice that it was there.
[2673] I have a PS3 that could still conceivably install that stuff.
[2674] bought a slim and then stopped updating the firmware on my old one maybe they'll just release something uh they'll they'll change the manufacturing uh print on the blu -rays that require a firmware update to use on the blu -ray player that you need to get and that'll pair and lock it out yes but i think the issue is that if you're already in on that stuff if you're already following that stuff then you just install a custom firmware that has all that stuff but still lets you I mean, they do that on the PSP still.
[2675] I believe it's changed.
[2676] It's not quite like that, but yeah.
[2677] End arounds existed.
[2678] Yeah, it's very serious stuff.
[2679] It's not even stuff that I fully understand.
[2680] I'm not sitting here claiming to be some expert on algorithms and keys and cryptography and whatever the...
[2681] In a crypto.
[2682] Are you saying you're a cryptanalyst?
[2683] I'm a crypto anarchist.
[2684] Crypto.
[2685] Hard crypto.
[2686] Basically, I want to pick up a phone and shout, go secure into it.
[2687] And then hit a button on the phone that makes a weird squealing noise for a second.
[2688] Take out your.
[2689] Go ahead.
[2690] And then after that.
[2691] Yeah.
[2692] Okay.
[2693] Go ahead.
[2694] Oh, yeah.
[2695] Exactly.
[2696] Take out your whistle.
[2697] I was reading this list of the top ten album Easter eggs.
[2698] Yeah.
[2699] Over the weekend.
[2700] And this LP came out in the 80s.
[2701] It was some, like, new wave one -hit wonder.
[2702] Band?
[2703] I can't remember the name of the band.
[2704] It's called Information Society.
[2705] Do you know about this?
[2706] Yeah.
[2707] Are you like playing into a modem?
[2708] Yeah, I totally did.
[2709] Have you done that?
[2710] I've done that myself.
[2711] My head exploded when I read that.
[2712] I probably still have the text file somewhere.
[2713] And they were not a one -hit wonder.
[2714] No, they had Information Society.
[2715] They had Peace and Love Incorporated.
[2716] What's on your mind?
[2717] Pure Energy.
[2718] A lesser known member of the New Wave movie.
[2719] Hey, you know what?
[2720] Kirk Harlan did music for video games.
[2721] I think he worked at Sega for a while.
[2722] I believe the lead guy still works at Crystal.
[2723] at Crystal Dynamics.
[2724] Wait, so I don't know what happened.
[2725] The head guy from Information Society.
[2726] They had a car.
[2727] They had the dream car on the cover of their album.
[2728] They took some car and then removed all the body parts of it and replaced it with basically like barbecue grills.
[2729] It's this Mad Max looking crazy fucking car.
[2730] Yeah, around that time they were all like...
[2731] into all this crazy cyberpunk -looking stuff.
[2732] And so you've done that.
[2733] They wrote songs about mirror shades called Mirror Shades.
[2734] So it was, yeah, it was a sound file that the name of the track was the 300 BPS 8N1.
[2735] It was the modem settings that you had to set your modem to.
[2736] Then you would call up your modem and hold the phone up to the speaker where the song was playing.
[2737] I didn't even call up.
[2738] There was no, like, phone.
[2739] I just hit ATA.
[2740] Like you're answering a call with your computer and then you pick up the phone.
[2741] Right, but you have to initialize on that string.
[2742] And what does it do?
[2743] It slowly spits out this text file.
[2744] It tells a story about this crazy, like they're on tour in Brazil.
[2745] Speaking of South American kill rooms, it's like this distress call.
[2746] It's like our bus was hijacked.
[2747] We are trapped.
[2748] That sounds freaky as hell.
[2749] In this third world country, please send help.
[2750] Because obviously that was the most efficient way to get the message.
[2751] Right, we recorded this album and...
[2752] It was awesome.
[2753] It was so awesome.
[2754] It was pretty fucking cool.
[2755] It sounds like the last leg of Majestic.
[2756] It took me like an hour to get it going right because it was really hard to get the...
[2757] Because basically the track on the album is half of the modem conversation.
[2758] It just assumes that if you have it set up right, your modem is going to make the other half and read that stuff at the right times and it's going to come out just right.
[2759] And it totally did.
[2760] That's pretty crazy.
[2761] It was fucking incredible.
[2762] I remember you had even done it already by the time I learned of this.
[2763] And it still took me a long fucking time to get it figured out.
[2764] Wow.
[2765] Yes, Brad, we're aware.
[2766] I was not.
[2767] Thank you for sharing that.
[2768] As a crypto anarchist.
[2769] I had some old shit.
[2770] I was busy trying to hack the planet.
[2771] They called me Captain Crunch.
[2772] Yeah, exactly.
[2773] I can whistle 2600 hertz, fool.
[2774] Nintendo 3DS, speaking of which.
[2775] Right?
[2776] Yeah, okay.
[2777] Go on.
[2778] Go.
[2779] I'm sure they'll make money on that platform.
[2780] Nintendo World happened last week.
[2781] Wait until Nintendo World.
[2782] I didn't even know.
[2783] I was so bummed.
[2784] I didn't even know that we had a fake space world in Japan.
[2785] Showed off a bunch of 3DS stuff.
[2786] They make kids go blind.
[2787] Yeah, everyone in Japan is now blind.
[2788] You said you have to look at the 3DS once and then you're blind.
[2789] Cross -eyed.
[2790] We are all blind.
[2791] We just don't know it yet.
[2792] It hasn't hit yet.
[2793] I'm halfway there.
[2794] Yeah.
[2795] My vision's good, though, so I won't be scared when that happens.
[2796] We've got eight launch games for the February 26th Japan release date.
[2797] We still don't have a U .S. release date.
[2798] We just know March.
[2799] I believe it's March is what they said, isn't it?
[2800] People taking pre -orders?
[2801] The usual suspects?
[2802] Yes, they are in the U .S. So all we really know is what's coming out day one in Japan.
[2803] And then they have a vague list of games that are out in the spring in Japan and a summer list.
[2804] 2011 list.
[2805] We've got 2011 3D Soccer.
[2806] Oh boy, here we go.
[2807] Yep.
[2808] Super Street Fighter 4 3D Edition.
[2809] Samurai Warriors Chronicle.
[2810] No, no 3D in that.
[2811] You don't get a hit?
[2812] No. No. Tobidasu Puzzle Bobble 3D.
[2813] So, is that just...
[2814] It's Puzzle Bobble.
[2815] Fucking Puzzle Bobble?
[2816] It's fucking Puzzle Bobble.
[2817] What's this Tobidasu bullshit?
[2818] I don't speak.
[2819] Nintendogs and cats.
[2820] Plus cats.
[2821] I'm sorry.
[2822] Nintendogs plus cats.
[2823] Plus 3D?
[2824] Lowercase n. All lowercase.
[2825] Lowercase n, lowercase c. No 3D.
[2826] 3D is not in the title.
[2827] That's implied.
[2828] I can neither confirm nor deny it.
[2829] Look, I just have the information that's in front of me. If you call up your modem and you speak cats into the receiver, it'll spit out 3D.
[2830] 3D?
[2831] A 3D cat?
[2832] Yep.
[2833] Pick up the phone and shout errors.
[2834] That one's weird to me because, like, Nintendogs?
[2835] Cats.
[2836] Like, the dogs are clearly getting the better deal here.
[2837] Well, they're sponsored.
[2838] Yeah, they are branded.
[2839] That's the sequel to Nintendogs, you know?
[2840] But it's Nintendogs.
[2841] Well, Nintend Cats sounds like garbage.
[2842] We said it's Ncats, right?
[2843] Like, not and?
[2844] No, it's Plus Cats.
[2845] Oh, Plus Cats.
[2846] I thought it was Nintendogs and Cats.
[2847] No, it's Nintendogs.
[2848] Because that would make way more sense, right?
[2849] What are you?
[2850] I'm an Ncat.
[2851] Oh, Ncat?
[2852] Yeah.
[2853] Nintendogs and Cats.
[2854] Nope.
[2855] I should be 3D.
[2856] Ridge Racer 3D.
[2857] See, you kind of wasted that one with your smacks.
[2858] Battle of Giants, Dinosaur Strike.
[2859] That's called something different in Japan.
[2860] That's the name I think they announced for US.
[2861] Dinosaur Strike 3D.
[2862] Okay.
[2863] Professor Layton in the Miracle Mask.
[2864] I thought, well, that's a good name.
[2865] Layton's got some good names.
[2866] He does.
[2867] Yeah.
[2868] He does.
[2869] I saw some other.
[2870] I don't know if it was a translation of that or if they've already announced it for US, but it was Professor Layton in the Mask of Miracle.
[2871] So don't know.
[2872] Yeah.
[2873] Miracle Mask is way better.
[2874] I don't know how I feel.
[2875] Say it again.
[2876] Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle.
[2877] That sounds like a Japanese title to me. The Miracle Mask.
[2878] Miracle Mask is better.
[2879] Miracle Mask.
[2880] That just sounds like Miracle Mile.
[2881] Yeah.
[2882] That's great.
[2883] Does it take place on the Miracle Mile?
[2884] Yeah.
[2885] A Layton game in 3D would be fun.
[2886] It could be crazy.
[2887] Those matchstick puzzles.
[2888] Oh, fuck.
[2889] God, there is, I have encountered one matchstick puzzle so far in the new one.
[2890] So, but only like one, like, okay, Layton is published by Nintendo, but only one.
[2891] Not there.
[2892] Oh, is it level five?
[2893] Level five is a publisher, I believe, in Japan, right?
[2894] Okay.
[2895] This is one first party game.
[2896] Single first party game in Japan.
[2897] And it's Nintendogs.
[2898] And cats.
[2899] Plus cats.
[2900] Plus cats.
[2901] Clearly, we didn't even think we just bolted cats on it.
[2902] It's still just Nintendogs.
[2903] Well, you remember at the press conference when they revealed that stuff.
[2904] It was like, hey, Nintendogs.
[2905] And then it was like, oh, plus cats.
[2906] What?
[2907] I was like, they're a big surprise.
[2908] Juana was so excited.
[2909] Are you going to take that away from him?
[2910] Fuck you.
[2911] So that's the Japanese launch lineup?
[2912] That's the Japanese launch lineup.
[2913] That's day one.
[2914] There's other stuff that's going to be probably week two.
[2915] Dead or Alive Dimensions has a date of March 24th.
[2916] Oh, yeah.
[2917] I saw the trailer for that.
[2918] And they had some good fake 3D.
[2919] I guess that and Street Fighter both have the same kind of easy operation system where there's going to be combos on the bottom screen.
[2920] And if you touch them with a stylus, you do the combo.
[2921] Wow.
[2922] These systems will come packed with a 2GB SD card for your virtual console and 3DSware needs.
[2923] And it sounds like it's going to come with a couple pre -installed games.
[2924] AR games and face shooting.
[2925] What's AR?
[2926] Augmented reality.
[2927] Augmented reality.
[2928] So Face Ace, I am going to say, has to be in there somewhere.
[2929] There's screenshots of face shooting that came out as part of this that you should look at and tell me if it is just Face Ace or not.
[2930] Because it sure sounded similar, but I did not see Face Ace, so I was not able to.
[2931] Guys, remember Face Ace.
[2932] You saw it.
[2933] I didn't see it.
[2934] Every day I wake up, friend, trying to forget.
[2935] Did you know Drew came with us for Face Ace?
[2936] That's right.
[2937] There's nothing 3D about it.
[2938] That's just the camera, right?
[2939] It's both.
[2940] Yeah.
[2941] Oh, using the 3D screen?
[2942] It's using the 3D camera on the back.
[2943] So the backgrounds are 3D.
[2944] Did you take pictures using different expressions?
[2945] So you'd have your angry face and your smiley face and that sort of stuff?
[2946] No, I think it did that on the floor.
[2947] No, everything was all the animation.
[2948] Oh, it just stretched it?
[2949] But that is what it had?
[2950] And it mapped it onto balls?
[2951] Yes.
[2952] Okay, then that's totally what this is.
[2953] Fucking awesome!
[2954] Dude, face ace.
[2955] How much do they want for this?
[2956] $1 ,000.
[2957] I don't care.
[2958] 25 ,000 yen.
[2959] What does that mean in dollars?
[2960] About 300 bones.
[2961] All right, I'll pick up one of those.
[2962] 280, something like that.
[2963] I don't know.
[2964] buy it in the States when it's like $250.
[2965] Is that your guess?
[2966] That's your guess, $249?
[2967] I'm going to say $249.
[2968] Really?
[2969] Like launch at $249?
[2970] I wish that they would do $199.
[2971] I thought they were.
[2972] I think they would go $279.
[2973] I'm guessing $279.
[2974] Really?
[2975] I say $250.
[2976] I don't think it's the right price to launch it at.
[2977] I just think it's the price they're going to launch it at.
[2978] All right, that's fair.
[2979] I'll say, yeah, $279.
[2980] Are you guys all on board, like right out of the gate?
[2981] No, I've got a DS.
[2982] Yeah.
[2983] DS I don't play.
[2984] I play my DS all the time.
[2985] I really want to check it out, but I don't know.
[2986] These eight games are not exactly moving me. The stuff, I don't know.
[2987] There's a lot of video out there of some of the other games.
[2988] At Nintendo World, they're also giving stage presentations.
[2989] There's a 35 -minute video of the Kid Icarus Uprising presentation.
[2990] It kind of looks like a little sin and punishment, but not.
[2991] Can I not play any of these games on my regular DS?
[2992] No, hell no. They're 3DS games.
[2993] So it's not like there's just 3D added?
[2994] No. These are all 3DS?
[2995] It's a better processor.
[2996] Even if you're playing 2D, you're going to see a noticeable improvement.
[2997] Honestly, from what I saw at E3, it looks kind of PSP -esque in terms of the quality of the graphics.
[2998] All right, so I'm a little bit more back on board.
[2999] Yeah, it's not just 3D.
[3000] It's not 2DSs taped together.
[3001] I'm fine with four screens.
[3002] Face Ace.
[3003] That's it?
[3004] It's the ace of faces.
[3005] I'm not trying to sound flip, but I think I'm going to wait for the second version of it.
[3006] It'll be smaller.
[3007] It'll look better.
[3008] It'll do something.
[3009] What do you think, 12 months?
[3010] Do you think they'll make it a full year?
[3011] I'd say 18.
[3012] Well, are you counting new colors as a?
[3013] No, no. Actual hardware.
[3014] I think the DS Lite was about 18 months.
[3015] And I will say I will put that at 18 from first launch.
[3016] From Japanese launch.
[3017] From whatever the first one was.
[3018] From Japanese launch to Japanese launch?
[3019] Is that what you're saying?
[3020] Yeah.
[3021] Yeah.
[3022] I will say launch to launch, which means that you'll probably hear about a new version of the 3DS a bit before it actually comes out, so before that 18 months is up.
[3023] I think if their battery life is really going to be a problem, I'd cut it closer to a year.
[3024] If it's going to affect stuff where it's like, I don't know.
[3025] For the launch of a whole new platform, I don't know.
[3026] When the DSi came out and then the XL came out less than a year later, it was one thing.
[3027] But when the light...
[3028] They're establishing a whole new brand identity in people's minds with this thing.
[3029] How long was it from the...
[3030] This is not a third pillar.
[3031] This is the new second pillar.
[3032] Dude, when's the Game Boy coming back?
[3033] They said they were going to make a new one.
[3034] So you think the DSi is dead?
[3035] Yeah, this replaces...
[3036] I mean, this plays all those games.
[3037] It's still a DS.
[3038] I haven't looked at any release lists, but has it seemed like first -party DS development is winding down?
[3039] Is Nintendo putting out a lot more DS games?
[3040] Aren't dudes still making Game Boy games?
[3041] I don't know.
[3042] Don't they make them forever?
[3043] I don't think so.
[3044] No DS games.
[3045] Or no GBA games.
[3046] I saw at least one kid in an airport over the holidays playing a Game Boy Advance SP.
[3047] That's a great platform.
[3048] Those things are still out there.
[3049] Game Boy Advance SP is fucking sick as hell.
[3050] It's good.
[3051] I'm not knocking at all.
[3052] I mean, they're definitely still out there.
[3053] What if they made a 3DS that looked like that?
[3054] That might have been the best handheld Nintendo's fucking made.
[3055] It basically does.
[3056] It just looks like a wide version of it.
[3057] Yeah, but if it weren't wide, if it were like that slim fit in your pocket kind of thing.
[3058] The DS Lite is a sweet piece of fucking kit as well.
[3059] I think the DSi is the peak.
[3060] Yo, you know what's a hot game?
[3061] What's up?
[3062] Super Mario Land.
[3063] I played a lot of the turtle shells and they explode.
[3064] I played a fair amount of Super Mario Land.
[3065] Yeah.
[3066] I play a little bit of that over the break.
[3067] All right.
[3068] I think that means we're digging in the crates.
[3069] We need to move out.
[3070] We need to stop.
[3071] Actually, we're fucking out of time for everything.
[3072] I wanted to know why you think the light is better than the eye.
[3073] It's smaller.
[3074] Not that much.
[3075] My eye fits in the case I had for my light.
[3076] I don't know.
[3077] Do you have a DSi?
[3078] I really hate it.
[3079] I bought it when it came out.
[3080] I really, really dislike the main interface on the DSi.
[3081] Really?
[3082] I prefer the let's just fucking get to it already.
[3083] Well, you have a lot more to manage on the DSi, though, because you've got all those downloadable games and apps and stuff.
[3084] Yeah, all those downloadable games.
[3085] Dude, whatever.
[3086] I have like eight DSiWare games.
[3087] Tell me about them.
[3088] One paragraph at a time.
[3089] No. We're going to move on.
[3090] Nothing's coming out this week, you guys.
[3091] That's not true at all.
[3092] What about downloadable stuff?
[3093] All right.
[3094] So Ghost Trick is coming out for the DS.
[3095] Ghost Trick?
[3096] DC Universe Online is coming out for the PC and PS3.
[3097] Is it?
[3098] Yeah, that is pretty big.
[3099] And then you know what?
[3100] I wasn't the last one to touch it.
[3101] What?
[3102] You were the last one to touch it.
[3103] You got to deal with it.
[3104] I don't know how to deal with it.
[3105] Well, no. No one knows how to deal with it.
[3106] Deal with it.
[3107] Hey.
[3108] DC Universe, deal with it.
[3109] They've been talking about that forever.
[3110] That's a big deal.
[3111] I kind of didn't think it was going to come out.
[3112] Neither did I. I reached a point where I was like, yeah, this is just going to be in beta forever, and then they're going to cancel it.
[3113] Didn't we see that at the first E3 we went to?
[3114] Yep.
[3115] That was three E3s ago.
[3116] And then the second one, and then the third one.
[3117] Although now it's out, so, you know.
[3118] Xbox Live Arcade this week.
[3119] Zite squared for 800 points.
[3120] Oh, yeah.
[3121] It's a side -scrolling shooter with time travel.
[3122] Yeah.
[3123] Time!
[3124] You rewind stuff to get it right.
[3125] Shoot, guys.
[3126] Then shoot them again.
[3127] That's what I know of for this week's new releases.
[3128] So no game room pack?
[3129] No game room stuff, as far as I know.
[3130] Start the clock.
[3131] Week one, no game room.
[3132] Week two, no game room.
[3133] There was no game room last week.
[3134] I need to qualify it because there could be, but they're not telling me about it.
[3135] PlayStation Network?
[3136] Have they got anything going down?
[3137] Probably.
[3138] Great.
[3139] You can play Tetris.
[3140] That's it.
[3141] Yeah.
[3142] You want to play some Tetris?
[3143] They're selling ZHP.
[3144] You can just go get it.
[3145] I don't know if I think you should or not, but you could do that.
[3146] Maybe it's cool.
[3147] Angry Birds is out as a PSP mini.
[3148] It's true.
[3149] I saw that on the store when I got Tetris.
[3150] Oh, that's right.
[3151] Venetica is coming out for a bunch of different platforms.
[3152] No idea what that game is.
[3153] PC, PS3, 360.
[3154] Somebody on my Xbox list was playing that over the weekend.
[3155] I was wondering what that was.
[3156] Yeah.
[3157] It's role -playing, I believe.
[3158] I believe that's correct.
[3159] Prinny 2, Dawn of Operation Panties, dude.
[3160] Prinny is totally in ZHP.
[3161] For PlayStation 4.
[3162] There's a Prinny in there.
[3163] The Prinny is your wife.
[3164] Could you say that name again, please?
[3165] Prinny 2.
[3166] Dawn of Operation Panties, dude.
[3167] So it's comma D -O -O -D exclamation point.
[3168] They're localized game titles.
[3169] Holy crap.
[3170] It holds true to the first game.
[3171] Yeah, they're not bad with that stuff.
[3172] And there's some stuff on Nintendo, but whatever.
[3173] Like what?
[3174] Like what?
[3175] Jelly Cartoon.
[3176] Tell me about it.
[3177] No. Emails, bombcast at giantbomb .com is the email address.
[3178] We made some changes while you were gone, Jeff.
[3179] First one comes from Ted in Old Bridge, New Jersey.
[3180] What's up, Ted?
[3181] Old Bridge, what's up?
[3182] Bombcast says Ted.
[3183] What's up, Ted?
[3184] Not much, he says.
[3185] I got a sweet touchscreen monitor for Christmas, and one of the things that came to my mind while using it was, this would be awesome if it were integrated with Xbox or PS3 games.
[3186] I thought he was going to say, this would be awesome if anything supported it.
[3187] Basically.
[3188] What do you even do with one of those things?
[3189] Yo, man, I can play Ruse.
[3190] I know Motion Control is the late fad of gaming.
[3191] I messed that one up real bad.
[3192] I know Motion Control is the late...
[3193] fad in gaming, but do you think touchscreen support will ever make its way into the world of console gaming?
[3194] Does the DS count?
[3195] Short answer, no. Not on those systems.
[3196] Here's a long answer.
[3197] No. No one plays Xbox 360 or PS3 games on a touchscreen monitor.
[3198] Yeah, because no one is ever close enough to the monitor to touch it because they play on big TVs.
[3199] Yeah.
[3200] Even on the PC end where you may be closer.
[3201] I guess, you know, yeah, touchscreen gaming is alive and well on the iPad.
[3202] Right.
[3203] And Windows 8.
[3204] When Windows 8 rolls out full and is all super heavy into touch stuff.
[3205] Oh, God.
[3206] What if it does go that way?
[3207] Look at what they're doing with the next OS X. It's basically got the iPad home screen in it.
[3208] Yeah, Windows 8 has mad touch hooks in it.
[3209] What's happening to computers?
[3210] Ted is ahead of the curve here with his touchscreen monitor just basically rolling.
[3211] He's got it before he can do anything with it.
[3212] And then he won't want to do anything with it.
[3213] I like controllers.
[3214] I'm fine with controllers.
[3215] Maybe I'm an old man, cranky old man. You can put more buttons on it.
[3216] I'm okay.
[3217] I like to use my hands when I play games.
[3218] It's a baby's toy.
[3219] Yeah, I know.
[3220] I know.
[3221] Let's see here.
[3222] WB Jacobs in Milpitas, California.
[3223] Over under five years until the announcement of a Revenge of the Nerds remake.
[3224] Movie?
[3225] Movie.
[3226] I'm going to say that they already started and canceled one of those about four or five years ago.
[3227] Nerds still play?
[3228] Fox Atomic, which was supposed to be like their...
[3229] cheapy, semi -indie label.
[3230] They had started to make one, and then it just fucking collapsed at some point.
[3231] They were cast, ready to shoot, and then something happened, and it all buckled.
[3232] I'm going to say no. I'm going to say no, because they already tried it.
[3233] Couldn't get it going.
[3234] Five years?
[3235] It's like double jeopardy.
[3236] You can't.
[3237] Yeah.
[3238] I'm saying, but it's like they got that.
[3239] It's not like a Superman thing where it's like, oh, well, we talked about it with a lot of people and there were options and it just never got made.
[3240] It's like, no, we cast it and it was in production before it died.
[3241] Is he counting straight to DVD?
[3242] Yes.
[3243] Yeah.
[3244] Remake, not a fucking like 12th one because they did a bunch of Revenge of the Nerds.
[3245] It has to be an actual reboot.
[3246] Actual reboot.
[3247] All right, less of a chance then.
[3248] Yeah, I was going to say like nerds.
[3249] Go to the moon or something.
[3250] Totally.
[3251] I'd watch that movie.
[3252] I would totally.
[3253] Science party on the moon is boring.
[3254] Guys, I got it.
[3255] Space joints.
[3256] Oh, no. Space jocks.
[3257] Nerds.
[3258] They're the worst.
[3259] Space jocks.
[3260] It's just astronauts.
[3261] See that trailer?
[3262] Whatever astronauts for Transformers 3.
[3263] Did you see the trailer?
[3264] I did.
[3265] Is there only one out so far?
[3266] There must probably be one out.
[3267] Speaking of astronauts.
[3268] That's fucking great.
[3269] I have no intent to ever see that movie.
[3270] But the notion of Neil Armstrong found the Transformers on the moon.
[3271] Amazing.
[3272] Really?
[3273] Yeah.
[3274] You should go watch the trailer.
[3275] You should go watch the trailer for that because it's awesome.
[3276] I just wish it was for something better.
[3277] Unreal.
[3278] The notion of just like, all right, we're faking this whole dark side of the moon communication blackout so you can figure out what the hell is going on on the moon.
[3279] And then as soon as you see just a little bit of jumbly metal crap that could only be part of a new type of transformer because they all look like shit like that with the weird, too overly complicated metal fragments.
[3280] Like, oh, damn it.
[3281] I was hoping this would be something awesome that Gary Sinise would mean or something.
[3282] I could see Gary Sinise showing up in the third Transformers film.
[3283] Yeah.
[3284] As a Transformer.
[3285] He could be that Transformer because it's like a crusty old -looking Transformer.
[3286] I don't even know.
[3287] Who taps out first, Michael Bay or the Transformers franchise?
[3288] Like, will he exit and they'll keep making him with somebody else, or do you think he'll keep going until they stop making him?
[3289] I think he would give up first.
[3290] Those things keep making enough money that the people that hold the license are just going to go like, yep, we're going to keep making money on this shit.
[3291] But yes, when Michael Bay says, I've told all of the Transformers stories, I need to tell in my heart.
[3292] I've blown up enough Transformers.
[3293] Or he moves up a level and hands it off to someone else and just shows up and says, yeah, more explosions.
[3294] This is like third one in the space of, what, four years?
[3295] I mean, he ain't slowing down.
[3296] Transmorphers did too.
[3297] It's true.
[3298] This closes out the epic trilogy.
[3299] Obviously.
[3300] Finally, so many unanswered questions.
[3301] Transformers 2.
[3302] The moon transforms into Gary Sinise.
[3303] God.
[3304] I would watch that movie twice.
[3305] The moon is a transformer.
[3306] That's right.
[3307] It's Gary Sinise.
[3308] The moon is a transformer.
[3309] Yeah, it's called Unicron.
[3310] Duh.
[3311] Duh.
[3312] You know, if that's where they went with that, I would at least be able to appreciate that from a distance and be like, that's a good way to go with the guys.
[3313] If the moon became Unicron?
[3314] Yeah.
[3315] It's like, all right, cool.
[3316] And eats Buzz Aldrin.
[3317] Yeah.
[3318] But just went, that would be so crazy of suddenly in this reality, there's no more moon.
[3319] Because it's a giant transforming fucking robot.
[3320] Yeah, and the oceans are going crazy.
[3321] No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Yep, exactly.
[3322] And then Shia LaBeouf got the symbol on his arm.
[3323] Was that the second one?
[3324] And he had some kind of glowing fucking thing on his hand.
[3325] He went to Transformers heaven at one point.
[3326] Did he?
[3327] I didn't see the whole thing.
[3328] I didn't see the whole thing.
[3329] Wow, really?
[3330] I find things about Transformers.
[3331] Transformers 2 kind of entertaining.
[3332] I actually, I like Transformers 2 better than the first one.
[3333] That does not mean anything about it is not just complete dog shit.
[3334] But it's like the worst possible thing they could do to the Transformers line.
[3335] From a design perspective, like across the board, they made all the robots look like garbage.
[3336] They got better about – like they figured out that – they kind of addressed the complaint of, hey, every single robot looks exactly the same when they're punching each other in the first one.
[3337] Like the second one, a little bit easier to see like, okay, that guy is punching that guy.
[3338] But – They go further down the asshole of Michael Bay's weird psychotic need for awful comic relief and everything.
[3339] It's way worse and way crazier.
[3340] Racist Transformers.
[3341] Yeah, all of his crazy Michael Bay's latent racism and misogyny just bubbles up in really awful pandering ways.
[3342] This trailer for the new one is extra insane because it zooms in on Transformers' eye and inside there he keeps spinning blades!
[3343] Spinning sharp knife blades!
[3344] Oh, no, that sounds like a bad place to be.
[3345] Why would you keep that there?
[3346] No, that's just what it looks like when it transforms.
[3347] I don't know, dude.
[3348] It's all fucking nuts.
[3349] Yeah, I don't know.
[3350] It's all bad.
[3351] And, you know, as someone who was a, you know, remains a bit of a Michael Bay apologist.
[3352] Yeah.
[3353] Even this stuff, like, I can't.
[3354] There are great Michael Bay movies.
[3355] None of the Transformer movies that I have seen have been.
[3356] These are not them.
[3357] Them.
[3358] These are not them.
[3359] I like the junk planet.
[3360] What the fuck were we talking about?
[3361] Bad Boys 3.
[3362] That question about Bad Boys 3 and how awesome it would be.
[3363] I don't even want Bad Boys 3 at this point.
[3364] That's what I said about Bad Boys 2, and then that turned out great.
[3365] That kind of did turn out amazing.
[3366] Yeah, I figured there's no way Bad Boys 2 could ever be any good, and then guess what?
[3367] It's fucking awesome.
[3368] Fucking incredible.
[3369] If that was going to be bad around the world, then clearly the third one needs to be bad around the universe.
[3370] And they go on the moon.
[3371] Lawrence on the moon.
[3372] Martin Lawrence on the moon.
[3373] How have we not gotten Martin?
[3374] How has no filmmaker gotten Martin Lawrence to the moon yet?
[3375] You mean actually?
[3376] No, run, tell that.
[3377] Is that whole scene?
[3378] Oh, that takes place on the moon?
[3379] Yeah.
[3380] Okay.
[3381] How has he not signed up for some fucking movie?
[3382] Pluto -Rash direct -to -DVD sequel?
[3383] Yeah, where it's fucking Big Mama's Moon House.
[3384] Or, I don't know, something.
[3385] Black Knight on the Moon.
[3386] Somebody get Tyler Perry on the phone.
[3387] Oh, you mean Dark Side of the Moon?
[3388] What?
[3389] We're done.
[3390] End of everything.
[3391] That's going to do it for this week's edition of the Giant Bobcast.
[3392] Oh, okay.
[3393] So before we go here, fellas, we have a giveaway to kick off.
[3394] Our good friends at Electronic Arts and BioWare have given us three copies of Dragon Age 2, the signature edition.
[3395] That's right, signature edition, to give away to BombCast listeners.
[3396] That's right, three copies.
[3397] So what we're going to do here, you'll find on the BombCast page on Giant Bomb, you know, giantbomb .com slash BombCast.
[3398] In the comments there on this podcast, we're going to want you to submit the answer to a trivia question, which I'm going to read shortly here.
[3399] I just wanted to give you the...
[3400] prep, get ready for it, let you know where to put your answer in, in the comments there, which means you're going to have to be a registered Giant Bomb member, you know, one of those guys, in order to take advantage of this.
[3401] So make sure you have all that done and then post your answer if you think you know it to the following question.
[3402] All right.
[3403] So our question is, before they made any RPGs, before they made any video games, name one of the pieces of software that was released by Dr. Ray and Dr. Greg.
[3404] So this is like some...
[3405] Some proto -Bioware history, if you know this, if you know the answer to this.
[3406] And also note that I said software.
[3407] I did not say games.
[3408] So name one of the pieces of software that Dr. Ray and Dr. Greg made before they got into the games business.
[3409] If you think you know the answer, put it in the comments below.
[3410] And then the first three that we see that have the correct answer, there are multiple choices in this.
[3411] I will reveal to you that much.
[3412] But first three.
[3413] are going to get copies of Dragon Age 2 Signature Edition.
[3414] I also should note, at the behest of our good friends at EA, that folks who pre -order the Signature Edition of Dragon Age 2...
