Morning Wire XX
[0] I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor -in -Chief John Bickley.
[1] It's Wednesday, March 22nd, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] The Federal Reserve raised interest rates by a quarter of a point on Wednesday, as officials tried to balance two conflicting problems, the risk that inflation could remain high, and the threat that higher borrowing costs could fuel more turmoil in the banking system.
[3] The move pushed interest rates to a range of 4 .75 to 5 % while forecasting one more rate increase in 2023.
[4] The Manhattan Grand Jury charged with determining whether to indict former President Donald Trump over alleged hush money payments was told not to convene on Wednesday, delaying a possible arrest of the former president.
[5] One source close to the matter claimed that a vote will likely not happen this week, even if the jury reconvenes on Thursday.
[6] Chinese leader Xi Jinping put on a show of solidarity with Russian president Vladimir Putin, while on his three -day state visit to Moscow that began on Monday.
[7] The Kremlin said on Tuesday that she spent his time in Russia's capital negotiating and signing statements with Putin that seek to strengthen economic cooperation between their nations over the next decade, ties which offer Putin a lifeline after Western nations levied sanctions against Russia for its war in Ukraine.
[8] She and Putin also signed a statement urging, quote, the international community to support constructive efforts towards responsible dialogue.
[9] Meanwhile, Putin announced Wednesday that Russia now supports the use of the Chinese Yuan to conduct transactions between Asia, Africa, and Latin America, a move that could weaken the U .S. dollar.
[10] Likewise also caused, in part, due to Russia's war, a retired Israeli military general says that the window to prevent an Israeli strike against Iran's growing nuclear program is closing quickly.
[11] Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has more.
[12] Retired Brigadier General Amir Avivis said this week that the United States retreat from the Middle East is limiting Israel's options to avoid conflict.
[13] Avivis set a strike against Iran, which could come within three months to a year, is bad for everybody.
[14] Meanwhile, China has helped the Iranian regime build influence in the region, while Russia may provide Iran's military with powerful defense systems to protect its nuclear program.
[15] The Russian tech in particular is what concerns Israeli leaders, because it would make Iranian infrastructure that much harder to take out.
[16] The House Oversight and Accountability Committee is setting its sights on the Biden administration's mishandling of the baby formula shortage of 2022.
[17] Daily Wires, Tim Meads reports.
[18] Several weeks out, we'll have a surplus of formula.
[19] When I say several, I can't say exactly how many weeks.
[20] Until then, we have to fill it in.
[21] That was FDA Commissioner Dr. Robert Kaleth, saying months ago he was optimistic about the nationwide baby formula shortage coming to an end.
[22] This week, Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer of Kentucky and subcommittee on health care and financial services chairwoman Lisa McLean of Michigan sent a letter to the FDA Commissioner requesting documents related to the government's response to the formula shortage.
[23] The two lawmakers blasted the FDA for not taking any real accountability for mishandling the crisis.
[24] Nevada Governor Joe Labardo said Tuesday his administration was not consulted on the Avicuame National Monument proposed by the White House.
[25] Lamberto says the move will hurt Nevadans and reportedly locks up 500 ,000 acres of mineral rich land in Nevada and Texas.
[26] After reaching out to the White House to raise concern, the governor says he's still waiting for a response.
[27] White House Press Secretary Corrine John Pierre was pressed on the situation yesterday.
[28] Did the White House consult the governor and if not, why not?
[29] So look, I mean, this is something that I was saying before.
[30] This is the president that has taken an aggressive stand on climate and made this a priority.
[31] This is the most engage, when you think about the engagement that we have seen on this issue, is it important?
[32] Because there's still much more that needs to be done to tackle this climate crisis.
[33] And for history lovers, archaeologists believe that they've recently discovered the remains of a Roman bathhouse and villa with an intricate, colorful brick mosaic in Olney, England.
[34] The mosaic was found during the construction of an Aldi grocery store when a crew of trained experts were called in to handle the historic find.
