[1] It's Wednesday, October 12, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] President Biden sat down with CNN's Jake Tapper Tuesday night for a rare television interview about a number of topics.
[3] During the interview, the president was asked whether or not Americans should brace for a recession.
[4] Should the American people prepare for a recession?
[5] No. Every six months, they say this.
[6] There's no guarantee that they're going to risk.
[7] I don't think there will be a recession.
[8] If it is, it'll be a very slight recession.
[9] That is, we'll move down slightly.
[10] Look, think about what's happened.
[11] We have done more, we're in a better position than any other major country in the world, economically and politically.
[12] The president also addressed whether or not he believes that his son Hunter will be charged by the FBI for a series of crimes relating to tax evasion and firearms fraud, insisting that his son has turned over a new leaf.
[13] Well, first of all, I'm proud of my son.
[14] This was a kid who got, not a kid, he's a grown man. He got hooked on, like many families have had happened, hooked on drugs.
[15] He's overcome that.
[16] He's established a new life.
[17] He is, I'm confident that what he says and does are consistent with what happens.
[18] I've great confidence in my soul.
[19] I love him.
[20] And he's on a straight and narrow, and he has been for a couple years now.
[21] And I'm just so proud of it.
[22] The FBI offered Christopher Steele $1 million if he could prove allegations recorded in his now infamous dossier.
[23] Senior FBI analyst Brian Alton said this week in court.
[24] The claim came during the trial of Igor Danchenko, the primary source of allegations in Steele's dossier used by the DOJ to launch its Russia investigation.
[25] Steele was unable to provide any evidence.
[26] The U .S. Supreme Court turned away a case this week that would determine if unborn children have personhood and are therefore entitled to have constitutional rights, following the historic overturning of Roe v. Wade last summer.
[27] A district judge could issue an initial ruling today to temporarily stop President Biden's student loan forgiveness plan from going into effect after six GOP states sued last month.
[28] This could pause the plan until the judge delivers a final ruling.
[29] Cities in China are forcing new COVID -19 lockdowns after COVID cases went up over a holiday week.
[30] The FDA has authorized Pfizer's new bivalent COVID -19.
[31] booster for children aged five and older, and Moderna's booster for children aged six and older.
[32] The decision will now go to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which could issue its final recommendation later today.
[33] And if you see what looks like a flying saucer descending to Earth after November 1st, don't panic.
[34] It may well be the new heat shield launched by NASA.
[35] The shield could be the key to a successful landing on Mars, according to researchers.
