Morning Wire XX
[0] I'm Daily Wire, Editor -in -Chief John Bickley with Georgia Howe.
[1] It's Tuesday, August 1st, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] It's lights out for traditional light bulbs.
[3] Starting today, the Biden administration is set to begin enforcing a nationwide ban on incandescent and halogen light bulbs, which represent a sizable share of current light bulb supplies.
[4] According to the Department of Energy's regulations, retailers will be prohibited from selling the traditional bulbs.
[5] LED lights will need to be sold instead.
[6] Those who disregard the rules will be subject to a substantial fine.
[7] Florida Governor Ron DeSantis sent Vice President Kamala Harris a letter inviting her to discuss the state's new Black History Standards, following comments from the Vice President that criticized the curriculum.
[8] Daily Wire Senior Editor Joel Needler has more.
[9] In the letter, DeSantis invited Harris to discuss the new standards with him and Dr. William Allen, one of the architects of the new history curriculum, which teaches that slaves learn trade skills that they later benefited from.
[10] The governor said, I am prepared to meet as early as Wednesday of this week, but of course want to be deferential to your busy schedule should you already have a trip to the southern border planned for that day.
[11] The vice president did return to the Sunshine State today.
[12] However, there's been no word on whether she'll meet with the governor.
[13] A rare disease is on the rise in Florida.
[14] The CDC says there were over 159 cases of leprosy in the Sunshine State in 2020, and that Central Florida accounts for the bulk of those cases.
[15] That area also accounts for about one -fifth of all reported cases in the U .S. According to the CDC, leprosy, which is also known as Hansen's disease, is a lingering, infectious disease that impacts the skin and nervous system.
[16] Researchers say one -third of cases from 2015 to 2020 seemed to have been acquired locally spreading from person to person or from animals like armadillos.
[17] The chief hospital epidemiologist at the University of Florida told Wesh two news that leprosy could be endemic in the state.
[18] If you have something that's like, you know, a few centimeters on your arm and you can't feel it, that's going to be different from a typical rash, which is going to be itchy or some other way that you would, you know, identify with a normal rash.
[19] So it is distinct.
[20] The Wisconsin Supreme Court flipped to a liberal majority today for the first time in 15 years.
[21] Today marked the start of a term for a new justice, Janet Protiziewicz, who made abortion rights a pinnacle of her campaign.
[22] The political flip could hold tremendous weight in the battleground state where several of the biggest political policy battles have been decided by the Supreme Court.
[23] Voting rules and political boundary lines are among a host of hot -button issues expected to be battled out leading up to 2024.
[24] The Lieutenant Governor of New Jersey, Sheila Oliver, has died just one day after being rushed to the hospital for unknown medical issues.
[25] Oliver, who was 71 years old, had been serving as acting governor while Governor Phil Murphy was on vacation.
[26] The Democratic Senate President Nicholas Scatari took over as acting governor when Oliver was rushed to the hospital Monday.
[27] Lori Vallow Daybelled, the Idaho mother who murdered her two youngest children and conspired to kill her husband's previous wife, has been sentenced to life in prison.
[28] In the bizarre case, Valo Daybell claimed that her son and daughter were zombies and that she was a goddess sent to usher in the biblical apocalypse.
[29] Vallow Daybell also faces two other cases in Arizona, one on a charge of conspiring with her brother to kill her fourth husband, Charles Valo, and one of conspiring to kill her niece's ex -husband.
[30] Charles Valo was shot and killed in 2019, but her niece's ex survived an attempt later that year.
[31] The judge said Valo Daybell will serve three life sentences, one after the other.
[32] They were found dead, earned, mutilated, and dismembered, and buried like animals.
[33] You simply have no remorse for it, even sitting here today.
[34] A swimmer who got swept out to sea by a powerful current was rescued off New York's Long Island after treading water for five hours.
[35] Police say 63 -year -old Dan Ho went swimming at the beach around 5 a .m. yesterday, morning but was pulled out by the current.
[36] After treading water for hours, police Sejo found a broken fishing pole and tied his shirt to it to try to flag down a passing boat.
[37] Two men in a fishing boat spotted him more than two miles south of where he had entered the water.
[38] He was blue, lips blue, body's gray.
[39] He was shade, he was totally hypothermic.
[40] We wrapped him in towels.
[41] I had my arm around him sitting in the back seat, just keeping him from falling over and Jim's on the radio with the Coast Guard.
[42] He just kept saying, I thought I was a goner.
[43] I thought I was a goner.
[44] The brightly flashing X sign atop the San Francisco headquarters of the company formerly known as Twitter has been taken down.
[45] Daily Wire researcher Michael Whitaker has more.
[46] The San Francisco Department of Building Inspection said Monday it received 24 complaints about the unpermitted structure over the weekend.
[47] Complaints included concerns about its structural safety and illumination.
[48] The company, which has been rebranded as X, removed the iconic.
[49] bird logo last week.
[50] The city launched an investigation into the giant X sign, which was installed Friday on top of the downtown building, as Musk continues his rebrand of the social media platform.
