[6] It's Monday, March 11th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[7] President Biden's annual budget was released today, laying out his ambitious funding priorities for the next year.
[8] The over $7 trillion plan follows much of what the president laid out during his state of the union address last week.
[9] Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has more.
[10] The budget comes as the president heads to several battleground states this week.
[11] According to the White House, the budget seeks to lower cost for families, increase investment in American manufacturing, strength in Social Security and Medicare, and reduce the deficit.
[12] It also aims to raise taxes on large corporations and proposes a 25 % minimum tax on billionaires.
[13] The White House claims these provisions will reduce the federal deficit by roughly $3 trillion over the course of 10 years.
[14] Other provisions in the budget plan include cutting taxes for middle -to -low -income Americans, as well as national pay leave and advancements in cancer research.
[15] The plan also includes several provisions regarding the southern border.
[16] Billions of dollars were requested for everything from an emergency fund in case of a migrant surge to addressing the flow of fentanyl crossing over the border.
[17] attorneys representing former President Trump are asking the judge for a delay in proceedings related to his hush money case.
[18] Team Trump is asking for a delay in the trial until after the Supreme Court rules on the scope of presidential immunity.
[19] Daily Wire reporter Amanda Presta Giacomo reports.
[20] If the bid is granted, it would delay the trial, which is currently scheduled to begin on March 25th, by several weeks or potentially months.
[21] Trump faces 34 counts of falsifying business rights.
[22] records tied to hush money payments he allegedly made to adult film star Stormy Daniels toward the end of his 2016 campaign.
[23] The money was reportedly paid before Trump was elected through his attorney at the time Michael Cohen, though the accusations came after he was president.
[24] The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments in that case on April 25th.
[25] This comes just days after the former president posted a nearly $92 million bond as he appeals the judgment against him in the E. Jean Carroll defamation case.
[26] Carol has accused Trump of rape.
[27] South Carolina congresswoman Nancy Mace sparred with ABC news anchor George Stephanopoulos after he pressed Mace about endorsing Trump in light of her own story of being raped.
[28] Asking you a very simple question.
[29] And I answered it.
[30] You're shaming me for my political choices.
[31] I'm asking you a question about why you endorse someone who's been found liable for rape.
[32] It was not a criminal court.
[33] This was a civil court.
[34] It was a civil court.
[35] It was a civil court.
[36] And by the way, she joked about the judgment and what she was going to do with all that money.
[37] And I find that offensive.
[38] I'm asking you about the man. But as a rape victim who's been shamed for years now because of her rape, you're trying to shame me again by asking me this political question.
[39] You've repeated that again again and again.
[40] As a woman, I find it offensive.
[41] I'm asking you.
[42] My political choices, I've endorsed the man that I believe is best for our country.
[43] It's not Joe Biden.
[44] Embattled Senator Bob Menendez pleaded not guilty to new obstruction charges today.
[45] adding to the bribery and corruption charges facing him and his wife.
[46] Prosecutors claim that Menendez tried to cover up bribery payments after learning about the investigation into them.
[47] Menendez and his wife and two New Jersey businessmen, all of whom pleaded not guilty to the new obstruction counts, are scheduled to stand trial in May. On Monday, the judge denied Bob Menendez's request to reschedule the trial date in light of the new charges.
[48] Multiple witnesses took the stand today in the James Crumley trial.
[49] Crumley is the father of the Oxford High School shooter who killed four students at his Michigan High School in 2021.
[50] The trial comes just weeks after Crumley's wife, Jennifer Crumley, was found guilty of manslaughter in connection to the deaths due to her role in gifting her son the gun used just days before the shooting.
[51] A proposal to either ban TikTok or sell it to an American company may be voted on in the house this week.
[52] Investor and Shark Tank star Kevin O 'Leary laid out his plan to save TikTok while speaking to Fox business.
[53] What I would do is form a bipartisan committee and advisory committee for 18 months.
[54] Go to them and I'd say to them, how much will you let me keep of the Chinese?
[55] In other words, can we offer them 20 % of NUCO?
[56] And then everything else, hire an American CEO, American board, move the servers here to the United States, rewrite the code.
[57] So we shut out the Chinese backdoors because that's what everybody wants.
[58] But you can leave a taste for the Chinese and we'll put a mandate in place, they get to keep 20%.
[59] That way, you run a process.
[60] This is worth billions.
[61] It's one of the most successful advertising platforms in social media today.
[62] All my companies use it.
[63] I can put a syndicate together of debt and equity as long as I can get the blessing of the house, because nobody wants to fund this thing if they think they'd be bought politically.
[64] But if we make it all American, including the servers, I can get this deal done.
[65] I want to buy it.
[66] And Oppenheimer swept many of the Oscar categories at Last Night's Academy Awards.
[67] Daily Wire Culture Reporter Megan Basham has the story.
[68] Some of the highlights of this year's show included actor John Sina coming on stage in the buff with a strategically placed envelope to present the costumes award.
[69] Ryan Gosling performed the hit Barbie song, I'm Just Ken, alongside Guns and Rose's guitarist Slash.
[70] And the in -memorium section included a tribute to the late Russian did.
[71] dissident Alexi Navalny.
[72] Oppenheimer was the big winner of the evening, taking home awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor.
[73] Emma Stone won Best Actress for Poor Things, and The Holdovers, Divine Joy Randolph, won Best Supporting Actress.
[74] Now, the speeches were notably non -political, though host Jimmy Kimmel did take a jab at Donald Trump in the final moments of the broadcast.
[75] He read a review of his performance the former president had posted on social media.
[76] Get rid of Kimmel and perhaps replace him with another washed -up but cheap ABC talent.
[77] George Slopinopoulos.
[78] Blah, blah, blah, make America great again.
[79] See if you can guess which former president just posted that on Shretham.
[80] Anyone?
[81] No?
[82] Well, thank you, President Trump.
[83] Thank you for watching.
[84] I'm surprised you're still, isn't it past your jail time?
[85] Viewership for the 96 -year -old award show has trended steadily downward for decades, but it rebounded slightly in 2023, and industry watchers think the popularity of Barbie and Oppenheimer could possibly give it a boost this year as well.
