[1] It's Friday, January 20th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] Russia and China will conduct naval drills in the Indian Ocean off the coast of South Africa next month.
[3] The naval exercises, which will take place on the one -year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, highlights the push by Russia and China to gain more global influence.
[4] South Africa, who will also take part in the drills, has been vocal in its refusal to side with the West, in condemning Russia's actions in Ukraine, claiming neutrality.
[5] Influential senior Democrat James Clyburn of South Carolina said this week that he believes President Biden will run in 2024 and warned would be challengers to stay out of the race.
[6] Well, I don't think he will and I don't think he should.
[7] The history is very clear on what happens when you challenge a sitting president like this.
[8] The opening 2024 Democratic primary contest could be moved to Clyburn's home state next January, knocking New Hampshire out of its status as First in the Nation primary for the party.
[9] The states of Texas and Oklahoma have sued the Biden administration, saying it has illegally given authority to the World Health Organization to declare a public health emergency in the U .S. The states claim this infringes on U .S. sovereignty.
[10] Executives of Boeing will appear in court next week to be arraigned on felony.
[11] charges related to the deadly crashes of two 737 Boeing jets.
[12] The executives have been given immunity as part of the plea deal, but the families of the crash victims urged the judge to bring criminal charges.
[13] Texas inmates across the Lone Star State are now 10 days into their hunger strike over what they say is excessive solitary confinement.
[14] The prisoners are demanding an end to the practice of being isolated from other individuals for hours each day.
[15] The protests began January 10th.
[16] A new study that compared children's brain activity between in -person and virtual interaction between 62 mother and child pairings found that electrical activity in the brain is significantly reduced during virtual social interaction, suggesting that in -person interactions are physiologically different for children than online interactions.
[17] A man who owns an art gallery in San Francisco was arrested and charged with battery after using a water hose on a homeless woman, who he said was, quote, screaming, belligerent things, spitting and yelling at him.
[18] And actor Ben Savage, best known for starring in the hit ABC sitcom Boy Meets World, is set to make a bid for Congress.
[19] According to paperwork filed with the Federal Election Commission on Wednesday, Savage's run as a Democrat will be in California's 30th district seat, which is currently held by Representative Adam Schiff.
[20] Schiff is rumored to throw his hat into the ring for U .S. Senator Diane Feinstein's seat.
[21] Feinstein has not yet said whether she will seek re -election.
