Morning Wire XX
[0] Thousands of hours of footage from inside the Capitol on January 6th have been provided to Fox host Tucker Carlson, and he's begun to air it.
[1] And that video tells a very different story about what happened on January 6th.
[2] Why are some lawmakers demanding that Fox silence its most influential host?
[3] I'm Daily Wire, editor -in -chief John Bickley, with Georgia Howe.
[4] It's Wednesday, March 8, and this is Morning Wire.
[5] After being inundated with an unsustainable flow of migrants at the border, the Biden administration considers a return to a much -condemned Trump border policy.
[6] I think the Biden administration has been confronted with the reality now that you've got to do something about this.
[7] And newly revealed emails suggest that Dr. Anthony Fauci commissioned and approved a scientific paper designed to discredit the lab leak hypothesis.
[8] That's a very deceptive way of seeding that story into the media, and it was successful.
[9] We look at the timeline and potential motives for the move.
[10] Thanks for waking up with Morning Wire.
[11] Stay tuned.

[20] Fox News host Tucker Carlson began airing newly released footage related to the January 6th Capitol riots on Monday.
[21] Much of it appears to undercut claims widely circulated by other national media outlets and lawmakers.
[22] Here to tell us more about these new tapes and what they appear to show is Daily Wire Culture reporter Megan Basham.
[23] So, Megan, obviously, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's decision to give these tapes directly to Carlson rather than releasing them to the media at large has created some controversy.
[24] Before we get to that, though, what have been the biggest revelations so far?
[25] Well, you know, Carlson offered a number of what you might call headline moments with, he says, more to come.
[26] So arguably, the biggest was footage that showed the man known as the QAnon Shaman, aka Jacob Chansley, who was sentenced to 41 months in prison.
[27] He's carrying no weapon.
[28] He's walking peacefully through the Capitol building.
[29] He's being guided by police who make no attempt to stop or restrain him.
[30] Here's a bit of Carlson narrating that footage.
[31] Here's video of Chansley in the Senate chamber.
[32] Capitol police officers take him to multiple entrances and even try to open locked doors for him.
[33] We counted at least nine officers who were within touching distance of unarmed Jacob Chansley.
[34] Not one of them even tried to slow.
[35] him down.
[36] So I just want to note that this was the first time this footage has been released, including to attorneys representing Chansley and others.
[37] And then there's also footage of Officer Brian Sicknick.
[38] News reports initially claimed that protesters had hit him in the head with a fire extinguisher, which led to his death the next day.
[39] But surveillance tape here shows Sicknick wearing a helmet, appearing healthy well after he was supposed to have been injured.
[40] Though we do need to add that outlets like the New York Times did later walk back that head injury claim, and the medical examiner said Sicknick died of natural causes, a series of strokes that could have been compounded from inhaling pepper spray.
[41] So Carlson also highlighted a clip of Missouri Senator Josh Hawley that appeared to show him running away from the Capitol that day, and that's something that a lot of people on the left use to brand Holly as something of a hypocrite and a coward.
[42] Well, the full clip shows that Capitol Police were ushering lawmakers out of the building and that Holly was actually at the back of that pack.
[43] And Carlson spent some time discussing how January 6 has been called an armed insurrection by a lot of media outlets and political leaders.
[44] In fact, the arms they were referring to were flags that some of the protesters were carrying.
[45] And the argument there was that the flag polls could be used as weapons.
[46] Carlson has already received a huge amount of pushback for his reporting.
[47] Can you tell us about that?
[48] Yeah, he has.
[49] And some outlets like CNN say he is highlighting errors that they had actually already corrected.
[50] Others say he's minimizing what happened on January 6th.
[51] Speaker McCarthy is also facing some criticism.
[52] Democrats are calling his decision to share the footage with Carlson, a quote, dereliction of duty that puts the Capitol police in danger.
[53] This was Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday.
[54] Speaker McCarthy has played a treacherous game by catering to the hard right.
[55] He's enabled the big lie and has further eroded away at our precious democracy.
[56] We should note, though, that Carlson said his team consulted with Capitol Police before airing any of that video, and he says they blurred some of the details of the interior of the buildings at the Capitol Police's request.
[57] Well, there's more than 40 ,000 hours of tape, so there's almost certainly far more to come.
[58] Megan, thanks for reporting.
[59] Any time.
[60] That was Daily Wire Culture reporter, Megan Basham.

[71] The Biden administration is considering reinstating a policy that detains migrant families caught crossing the border illegally, marking the latest Trump -era immigration policy seeing new life this year.
[72] Here with more on why Biden is considering bringing back the policy he wants to ride it as inhumane and how Democrats are reacting is Daily Wire senior editor Cabot Phillips.
[73] So, Cabot, what can you tell us?
[74] Well, according to multiple officials in the Biden administration, the White House has been meeting with the Department of Homeland Security over the last week to discuss reinstating a policy that allows border agents to detain migrant families called entering the country illegally.
[75] Now, similar policies had been used by every president since George W. Bush, including even Obama, but President Biden campaigned on abolishing what he called, quote, inhumane practices like this.
[76] For example, back in 2020, he tweeted, quote, children should be released from ICE detention with their parents immediately.
[77] This is pretty simple, and I can't believe I have to say it.
[78] Families belong together.
[79] The White House has yet to publicly comment on the matter, though.
[80] Here's Press Secretary Corinjean Pierre when asked about it Tuesday.
[81] I'm just not going to comment on rumors that are out there.
[82] I'm not saying it's being considered.
[83] I'm not saying any, but I'm not saying it is, and I'm not saying it is not.
[84] So what currently happens to families when they arrive at the border?
[85] Well, under the current Biden policies, those caught by border agents are given a court date and released, usually with ankle bracelets or cell phones that, at least in theory, allow agents to monitor their whereabouts once they're in the country.
[86] But in reality, those migrants routinely skip out on those court dates and slip into the country often never to be heard from again.
[87] Now, the White House is considering a policy that would allow families to be detained for up to 20 days, but potentially longer depending on court rulings.
[88] And remember, the timing here is important.
[89] There is a real sense of urgency right now in Washington as Title 42 is set to expire this coming May. The White House has been pretty open that once that happens, they expect a huge surge of illegal crossings because migrants know that border agents will have less authority to deport those who are caught.
[90] Now, on Monday, we reported on the kidnapping of four Americans just south of the border, and yesterday we got some sad news on that front.
[91] What's the update there?
[92] So on Tuesday, we learned that two of the victims in that case were found alive, but the two others had been killed.
[93] Now, we're still piecing together to details, but we do know that one of the victims was there for a cosmetic procedure and that the other three had joined her for what was supposed to be a fun trip.
[94] That's according to one of the victim's mother.
[95] authorities say they located the four on Tuesday morning, recovering two bodies and then taking the two survivors, one of whom had unspecified injuries for medical attention.
[96] While violence and kidnappings in this part of Mexico are very common, it doesn't typically affect Americans.
[97] Cartels usually avoid U .S. nationals for fear of response by American law enforcement, and that, along with the fact that the group was specifically targeted, has some officials speculating that the four may have been mistaken for others, potentially Haitian smugglers who sometimes operate in the area.
[98] Cabot, thanks for reporting.
[99] Anytime.
[100] That was Daily Wire Senior Editor, Cabot Phillips.
[101] New emails disclosed by a Republican -led committee on the pandemic suggest that Dr. Anthony Fauci commissioned a paper that, from the start, intended to debunk the lab leak hypothesis.
[102] The revelation comes as more experts have concluded that the virus likely did leak from the lab.
[103] Here to discuss as columnist and author Miranda Devine.
[104] Hey, Miranda.
[105] Now, you've reported for the New York Post on Dr. Fauci and the paper that he committed.
[106] and at the start of the pandemic regarding the origins of COVID, can you walk us through the timeline of what went down there?
[107] Sure.
[108] So we're talking about February 2020, and we have Dr. Fauci at the very beginning of the pandemic, commissioning a scientific paper, focusing deliberately on disproving what was then called the lab leak hypothesis.
[109] And since then, various intelligence sources have increased their confidence level and gotten on board with that theory.
[110] But at the time, Anthony Fauci and his boss at the NIH, Francis Collins, seemed to be desperate.
[111] They were having these frantic meetings.
[112] They were encouraging other scientists to write this paper which put the kibosh on that theory.
[113] And that was pretty influential.
[114] And then you see the deceptive nature of Anthony Fauci about a couple of months, eight weeks after that paper had been commissioned and published when he stands at the podium at the White House next to Donald Trump at a press conference and in answer to a question from a journalist did this virus come from the Wulhound Lab Anthony Fauci sort of casually cites this scientific paper which he'd commissioned and acts as if he's at arm's length from it's really nothing to do with him says that this paper just shows that the most likely, most probable cause was that the virus jumped from monkey to monkey to, you know, whatever, went to humans in that natural way.
[115] And he said, oh, you know, I can't think of who the authors are, as if he doesn't know.
[116] And he says, we can find that paper for you.
[117] The sort of spotlight went off China and the Wuhan lab and was focused more on this, you know, the idea that it was naturally occurring.
[118] Have we had any response from Fauci or any other officials, to these new revelations and accusations?
[119] No, not so far.
[120] I would imagine they're keeping their part of dry because they will be questioned by this subcommittee, by the Republicans.
[121] And so, you know, they've had the last two and a half years pretty much being protected by the Biden administration.
[122] And now I think the gloves are going to come off with the Republicans.
[123] So I'd imagine that they're just going to ground.
[124] Zooming out a bit here, why does this matter now?
[125] and how can we have accountability?
[126] Well, I guess it matters that we know how this virus became this deadly pandemic so that we can avoid it happening in the future.
[127] If fingers have been pointed away from the Wuhan lab, and if, in fact, the pandemic did start with a leak from that lab, and if, as the documents seem to suggest or show, that research was funded, at least in part by the information, American government, then people have to be brought to account.
[128] There has to be punishment because otherwise it will happen again if everyone gets off scot -free.
[129] A lot of lies were told to the American people and this affected millions of people around the world.
[130] So it's crucial that we get to the bottom of it.
[131] Unfortunately, I think the crime scene is cold.
[132] Like with any murder, you really should get in there hot and fast.
[133] But now, so long afterwards, you know, they've had plenty of time to get rid of the evidence.
[134] But at least we can try and assemble a timeline and the evidence to point to really what did happen and with some degree of confidence and, as I said, ensure that it doesn't happen again.
[135] Well, certainly none of us want to suffer through that again.
[136] Miranda, thanks for joining us.
[137] That was columnist and author Miranda Devine.
[138] Another story we're tracking this week.
[139] A Los Angeles jury has awarded 1 .5 million to prosecutor Sean Randolph after she claimed that district attorney George Gascon retaliated against her for questioning his policies.
[140] According to the suit Randolph filed in October of 2021, she was given a transfer that she claimed was punitive after she raised questions about Gascon's criminal justice reform policies.
[141] Policies that critics have said amount to him simply being soft on crime.
[142] This is the first verdict out of 17 lawsuits alleging retaliation.
