[2] The Supreme Court has rejected special counsel Jack Smith's request for an expedited ruling on presidential immunity for Donald Trump.
[3] Presidential immunity would shield the former president from charges that he defrauded the United States with his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
[4] The court's decision will likely delay the March 4th start.
[5] for Trump's federal trial, an outcome Trump's lawyers have advocated for.
[6] The justices did not release a statement regarding the reason for their ruling.
[7] The issue will, however, be decided by the U .S. Court of Appeals for Washington, D .C., which is signaled it will act quickly in reaching a decision.
[8] Texas has begun transporting migrants by plane to Chicago.
[9] On Tuesday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott authorized a flight with 120 migrant travelers departing from El Paso to the windy city.
[10] Abbott's spokesperson stated that the flight was a workaround since Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has begun, quote, targeting migrant buses.
[11] Abbott has facilitated free rides to blue cities for more than 80 ,000 migrants since last year.
[12] A boat found in the Latigo Shores area of Malibu on Tuesday morning is suspected of being used for human smuggling.
[13] A Coast Guard representative told the Daily Wire that it's looking into the case as a possible migrant landing, while a representative for the local sheriff's.
[14] station said it had reported the incident to customs and border patrol.
[15] The finding comes just weeks after more than two dozen migrants were spotted disembarking from a boat and fleeing about a mile away.
[16] U .S. and China military officials are showing signs of restoring long -frozen military contact after General Brown, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, spoke Thursday with his Chinese counterpart.
[17] The two officials spoke via video conference, according to a statement from Brown's office.
[18] The two discussed a variety of topics, but keeping communication lines open topped the list.
[19] Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and other U .S. officials say maintaining dialogue between the U .S. and Chinese militaries is paramount in avoiding potential miscalculations and misunderstandings.
[20] The World Health Organization is warning of a new COVID variant circulating in the U .S. The JN .1 sub -variant of the earlier Omicron variant is estimated to make up about 27 percent of global cases and has become the predominant strain in the Northeast.
[21] Researchers at the University of Buffalo School of Medicine claim JN1 may be more infectious due to an extra spike protein, but it is not thought to be more severe than the comparably mild Omicron variant.
[22] The WHO has classified JN1 as a variant of interest, but stated it poses a low additional public health risk.
[23] A recent study published by Harvard Medical School suggests that animals engage in daydreams.
[24] The researchers tracked the neurons of mice in a lab setting during a quiet waking state and noted that their neurons would often light up in a pattern similar to when the mice were shown a picture, suggesting that the mice were thinking about or remembering the picture they had been shown.
[25] The researchers concluded that mice may experience visual memories and potentially anticipate future scenarios.
[26] Honda Motors is recalling more than 2 .5 million American Honda and Accura vehicles manufactured between 2017 and 2020 due to a fuel pump defect.
[27] Per Honda, no crashes or injuries have been reported due to the issue to date, but the automaker will replace all fuel pumps for impacted cars at no cost.
[28] Car owners will begin receiving notification letters with further details in February.
