Morning Wire XX
[0] Thousands of Haitian migrants have arrived at the U .S. border, leaving local and state authorities scrambling to address the humanitarian crisis.
[1] But where are the migrants ending up?
[2] Reports say thousands are being released into the U .S. We'll hear from officials waving red flags about the way the administration is handling the migrant surge, and why it's happening now.
[3] Who is paying for this?
[4] Who is moving them?
[5] Who's transporting them there?
[6] Who all is involved in this?

[21] As the situation at the border continues to worsen, reports say that many Haitian migrants are being let into the United States instead of being sent back to Haiti.
[22] Here with the latest is Daily Wire's Charlotte Pince Bond.
[23] So Charlotte, we've been watching the situation unfold on the border over the past week and specifically the large influx of migrants coming into the Del Rio area in Texas.
[24] Homeland Security Secretary Mayorka said Monday that Haitian migrants are going to be deported, but now we're hearing reports that only some are.
[25] What do we know here?
[26] Well, there's a lot we don't know, but we do know the federal government has begun flights for some of the Haitian migrants.
[27] But we're now hearing officials anonymously reporting about Haitian migrants being released into the U .S. despite the Biden administration saying otherwise.
[28] An official also said Haitians have been let go on a very, very large scale recently, saying the number is in the thousands.
[29] Right.
[30] We actually had Congressman Tony Gonzalez come on and he said it was as much as 10 ,000, but that wasn't a confirmed number.
[31] Right.
[32] They're being released with requests to come to an immigration office within 60 days.
[33] But of course, there are questions as to how many of them actually show up with reports in the past saying the majority do not.
[34] Right.
[35] DHS has reportedly been busing Haitian migrants out of Del Rio over to El Paso, Laredo, and the Rio Grande Valley.
[36] They also included more flights this week headed to Tucson, Arizona, where migrants are then processed by border patrol.
[37] And this is all still according to a U .S. official.
[38] Another said that lots of the Haitian migrants were being processed, but not put on flights to Haiti yet.
[39] Okay.
[40] And this is, just to be clear, this is still going on now, correct?
[41] Yes.
[42] The bridge we've been seeing so many congregating underneath is where people travel between Mexico and Texas.
[43] And there's likely still thousands of migrants there.
[44] Why so many Haitians coming all at once and into one place?
[45] Part of the reason might be the Biden administration's messaging on immigration.
[46] they've pushed the narrative of welcoming illegal immigrants into the country.
[47] But as to why Haitians are coming, we have to look back to May. That's when Secretary Mayorkas gave temporary protected status to Haitians already in the U .S., citing security concerns, social unrest, poverty, and other reasons.
[48] So why are we seeing this big influx, specifically of Haitians?
[49] Exactly.
[50] I mean, that's another question people are starting to ask.
[51] Governor Abbott addressed this, actually, when he spoke to Morning Wire this week.
[52] Listen, that raises another issue that no one has answered yet.
[53] How did these Haitians get there?
[54] Who is paying for this?
[55] Who is moving them?
[56] Who's transporting them there?
[57] Who all is involved in this?
[58] You know, you could see maybe one or two or ten or twenty or whatever the case may be, but 12 or 14 ,000 people all arriving there, they had to have assistance from somebody else to be able to get there.
[59] And then on top of that, some maybe even.
[60] even many of the Haitians who were there on the border actually did not come from Haiti.
[61] They've been living in other countries in Central and South America for years now.
[62] So no solid answers to these pretty important questions.
[63] That's right.
[64] Well, let's hope we find some answers soon.
[65] Charlotte, thanks for the reporting.

[71] This week, a U .N. Atomic Energy Watchdog issued a warning that North Korea is once again moving forward with their nuclear weapons program.
[72] The news comes a week after the state successfully tested a series of long -range missiles.
[73] Here with the details on the growing threat and how the world is responding is Daily Wire Managing Editor Cabot Phillips.
[74] So, Cabot, tell us a bit about the new developments in North Korea.
[75] So on Monday, the International Atomic Energy Agency gave their annual report.
[76] They're a watchdog that tracks nuclear development around the world.
[77] And they offered an ominous update on the status of North Korea's nuclear program, saying it's, quote, moving full steam ahead.
[78] They also released a report with satellite images showing that the Kim regime has reopened and expanded a nuclear plant that had been shut down back in 2018.
[79] Now, nuclear experts say the North Koreans will be able to increase their plutonium production by about 25 % now, which obviously has people concerned and has also crushed any hope that the Kim regime was cutting back on their nuclear ambitions.
[80] Right.
[81] And there were also some reports that North Korea had resumed missile testing.
[82] Yeah, that's the other big part of this story.
[83] So Kim Jong -un said back in January, that the country was focused on developing long -range cruise missiles.
[84] At the time, experts weren't sure how to react.
[85] They didn't know how serious the threats were until last week when North Korea had a successful test launch with both ballistic and cruise missiles.
[86] One of those missiles reportedly traveled over 900 miles.
[87] Now, this was viewed as a concerning step forward for North Korea's military ambitions, mainly because it showed the growing diversity of their arsenal.
[88] Right.
[89] And last month, the regime had hinted that something was coming as a response to joint military operations between the U .S. and South Korea, but officials weren't sure what to expect.
[90] And this was the first test from the North Koreans in months.
[91] And obviously, it's a clear sign that Kim is not going to give up his nuclear program anytime soon.
[92] Now, obviously, North Korea's known for being unpredictable.
[93] Right.
[94] But what does this tell us about their intentions right now?
[95] Well, you're right.
[96] Kim Jong -un is impossible to predict, and his promise is me next to nothing.
[97] The obvious point here is that North Korea still prioritizes their nuclear program over basically everything.
[98] Experts say Kim views it as sort of a negotiating chip that he can use to protect against outside intrusion.
[99] So even though the nuclear program has led to crippling sanctions and harmed their economy greatly, he's pushing forward with it because he reportedly thinks it offers him clout on the global stage.
[100] So what about the timing?
[101] Is there anything significant about the fact that they're doing this now?
[102] So experts have a few theories here.
[103] One is that the nuclear program had slowed down a bit as COVID spread, and now they've been able to reallocate time and resources, and so there's not much to the timing, except that they're picking things back up.
[104] The other is that this is actually a response to increased global sanctions, and particularly America's partnership with South Korea and Japan, which are two of North Korea's other main rivals.
[105] Last week also, when the U .S. signed a nuclear submarine deal with Australia and the U .K., North Korea issued a statement warning that the U .S. supposedly wanted to start a, quote, nuclear arms race.
[106] So that's likely playing a role here as well.
[107] And what about the Biden administration?
[108] What's the status of their relationship with North Korea right now?
[109] So there hasn't been a ton of movement between the White House and North Korea.
[110] Back in June, the president ordered the renewal of economic sanctions against North Korea that had been in place for about the past decade.
[111] And he also reached out to initiate discussions with Kim Jong -un.
[112] But according to reports, North Koreans haven't responded to those messages.
[113] That is sort of part for the course lately.
[114] There was some optimism that they might be opening up a bit after Kim Jong -un famously agreed to meet with President Trump back in 2018.
[115] But following their second meeting in 2019, things started to go downhill.
[116] And the North Koreans haven't really spoken to the U .S. since.
[117] And that silence, along with these new nuclear tests, have experts worried.
[118] Definitely something to monitor.
[119] Cabot, thanks for the other.
[120] update.
[121] Absolutely.
[122] Daily Wire managing editor, Cabot Phillips.
[123] The Emmy Awards were handed out last Sunday, but the winners weren't the ones making the biggest headlines.
[124] Viral photos showed glamorous stars socializing and posing on the red carpet mask -free, while staff standing by had their faces covered.
[125] This led many to wonder why only some of those present had to abide by local mask mandates.
[126] Here to dissect the seeming hypocrisy and tell us how authorities are responding, is Daily Wire Entertainment reporter Megan Basham.
[127] So, Megan, like most people, I saw the photos of the A -Lister's mixing and mingling in that awards venue, totally maskless.
[128] Exactly.
[129] And, you know, this isn't the first time we've seen this recently.
[130] Barely a week ago, the exact same thing happened at the Met Gala.
[131] The rich and famous went mask -free, while their handlers, who we all saw in the background, were dutifully shielding their faces.
[132] And I'm sure you saw, Georgia, one of the most viral images that came out of that event was Alexandria Ocasio -Cortez and her boyfriend getting ready in this small hotel room, both unmasked and smiling.
[133] Meanwhile, the women arranging her gown, that famous Tax the Rich dress, well, they had their mouths and noses covered.
[134] Well, now we have similar photos coming out of the Emmys.
[135] Not only did stars go maskless, but the room the awards were held in, the event deck at LA Live, well, it was quite small and very crowded.
[136] Right.
[137] And the pictures, it's like they're packed in, like, sardines.
[138] Exactly.
[139] And, you know, that completely goes against the regulations posted on LA County's health website.
[140] It was so bizarre, presenter Seth Rogen felt the need to comment on it.
[141] Let me start by saying there is way too many of us in this little room.
[142] What are we doing?
[143] They said this was outdoors.
[144] It's not.
[145] They lied to us.
[146] We're in a hermetically sealed tent right now.
[147] I would not have come to this.
[148] So how did the Emmy's producers respond to Seth Rogen's jabs?
[149] They haven't really said much beyond a few presenters kind of awkwardly responding to Rogan's jokes.
[150] Host Cedric the entertainer said it was fine because everyone there had been vaccinated.
[151] Instead, what Emmy producers are doing is letting the L .A. County Health Department do their talking for them.
[152] So the county currently requires all attendees at gatherings of 1 ,000 or more people to be masked at all times unless they're actively eating or drinking.
[153] Think like an airplane.
[154] Well, the officials put out a statement Tuesday explaining that the Emmys were exempt from that mandate because even though it's technically an awards dinner, because it's televised, they categorized it as a TV production, and TV and film shows are exempt from those mandates.
[155] So the statement said, quoting here, persons appearing on the show are considered performers.
[156] The Emmys reached out to public health in advance to share their safety protocols, which exceeded the baseline required, for television and film productions.
[157] That's end quote there.
[158] But they also said the health department made an exception because all the attendees had been vaxed and tested negative for COVID -19.
[159] Sure, but that doesn't explain why the people working at the event had to be masked.
[160] I'm assuming that they also had to meet those same requirements, be vaccinated, provide that negative test.
[161] Is that correct?
[162] Yes, that's exactly correct.
[163] And the county statement specifically said production crew for the Emmys did indeed have to meet those same requirements to be present.
[164] So in that case, why the masks for the help?
[165] Well, county officials didn't explain that.
[166] Well, their silence on that is really interesting.
[167] Isn't it?
[168] Megan, thanks for joining us today.
[169] My pleasure.
[170] That's Daily Wire Entertainment reporter, Megan Basham.
[171] Other stories we're tracking this week.
[172] On Thursday, White House Press Secretary Jen Saki said that Border Patrol agents will no longer be using horses in Del Rio, Texas.
[173] After some media outlets, mischaracterized the agents use of the horse reins as whips to deter migrants.
[174] At a news conference, Saki also noted that the Homeland Security Secretary told civil rights leaders about the change.
[175] And a new Iowa poll found that a total of 62 percent of Iowans disapprove of President Biden's handling of the job, including 62 percent of independence, 95 percent of Republicans, and 7 percent of Democrats.
[176] The approval numbers are worse than at any point of either Donald Trump or Barack Obama's If you like this episode and are interested in hearing more, subscribe to MorningWire on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you're listening, and give us a five -star review.
