[0] Welcome, welcome, welcome to armchair expert.

[1] I'm Dan Shepard.

[2] I'm joined by Monica Monsoon.

[3] What's on the horizon forecast -wise?

[4] Ooh, sunny sky.

[5] Sunny sky, smooth sailing.

[6] We had a ding, ding, ding about sailing.

[7] This is the third time we've talked about sailing in the last 24 hours.

[8] Which is three more times than we've talked about in the last decade.

[9] It should also be noted.

[10] If anyone's watched the Netflix admissions scandal documentary, we learn of the Stanford Sailing Coach.

[11] And then Monica said, they have a sailing team.

[12] I thought you meant rowing.

[13] Right.

[14] But you didn't.

[15] You were right in saying sailing.

[16] And then I started to think, like, that's a thing?

[17] That's a team?

[18] And then it became, is it in the Olympics?

[19] And I said, I kind of think it is.

[20] And I was like, I don't know.

[21] And then we interviewed someone today who had been in the Olympics, and they said that they befriended a sailing competitor.

[22] Exactly.

[23] And we had a major dingle's.

[24] Major, major, major dangles.

[25] Today we're going to talk with Rachel Bilsen.

[26] Rachel Bilsen, of course, came to great notoriety in the O .C. She was also the star of Harda Dixie and Jumper, and she has a new podcast called Welcome to the O .C. bitches.

[27] Do you like my delivery of that, or should I do it trying to take two?

[28] Sure, try to take two.

[29] Welcome to the OC bitches.

[30] I like both.

[31] You like both?

[32] Okay.

[33] Will you want to try one?

[34] Welcome to the OC bitches.

[35] Ooh, I had some stank on it.

[36] I think we're going to go with that one.

[37] Listen, join the original OC bitches friends and co -stars Rachel Bilsen and Melinda Clark for a trip back to the early 2000s.

[38] Zip up your juicy couture track suit and grab a seat by the pool while they delivered the ultimate OC rewatch podcast.

[39] This was a ton of fun.

[40] enjoy Rachel Billson.

[44] He's an armchair expert.

[45] Where are you?

[46] Monica.

[47] I'm in Georgia.

[48] I'm home with the family.

[49] Oh, that's nice.

[50] It's so nice.

[51] I haven't been here since 2019, which is rare.

[52] You're not next to deck.

[53] Yes, I am in a storage closet.

[54] Well, yeah.

[55] Why wouldn't you be?

[56] Exactly.

[57] I am at home.

[58] I converted my closet into my office.

[59] So this is normally all shoes behind me. Oh, man. I wish it was still shoes.

[60] I know.

[61] I thought about it, but I'm like, is that a little, like, excessive, obnoxious for people to just see how many.

[62] It's a problem.

[63] Oh, my God.

[64] Actually, Nicole once was like, when Rachel gets rid of her shoes, I'll give them to you.

[65] Are you a size five?

[66] Yes.

[67] No one is a size five.

[68] Exactly.

[69] She was like, she has a small feet like you and you're the only other person.

[70] Oh, I'm definitely who I'm going to come to because no one, it's literally like, okay, children or Monica.

[71] Like that's what I'm going to have to do.

[72] Yay.

[73] That's awesome.

[74] What happened?

[75] What are you guys doing?

[76] She's going to give me some of her amazing shoes.

[77] Yeah, we both have little feet.

[78] Oh, from shoe.

[79] I was telling Monica that this is usually full of shoes, my shelves behind me, because I'm in my closet.

[80] We're going to get into your incredible flair for fashion.

[81] But before we do, I guess my first question is, why are you coming for us?

[82] Why are you taking aim at us?

[83] You're launching a podcast to compete with us.

[84] We're friends.

[85] You're going to bring the full brunt of the O .C. We don't have shit.

[86] We don't have an IP to help us.

[87] And I just want to know why.

[88] Why are you doing this to us?

[89] Because you know I like to torture you.

[90] Only the people I like the most.

[91] So full disclosure, we know each other in real life.

[92] Yes, we do.

[93] Somehow via Kristen, obviously.

[94] Yes.

[95] And maybe, oh, through Nicole, maybe, right?

[96] I introduced Kristen to Nicole.

[97] Right.

[98] So this is a lovely story.

[99] So you meet Nicole Chavez on the OC.

[100] She is a costumer at the time.

[101] Yes.

[102] And she is now hands down the biggest design.

[103] designer and stylists in the world.

[104] Well, I shouldn't say designer.

[105] She's the biggest stylist in the world.

[106] Well, she has definitely made a name for herself because obviously she has impeccable taste.

[107] And when she was on the O .C., she's like, I want to try styling.

[108] So I was her first sort of whatever.

[109] I was the sample.

[110] You were the laboratory?

[111] I was the laboratory.

[112] And then Kristen, I was like, oh my God.

[113] I feel like we were at like some in -style golden globe party or something.

[114] And I think I have a picture of it.

[115] Hold on, hold on.

[116] I think you're dressing it up.

[117] It was most certainly a CW event because you're We were both on CD.

[118] I'm trying to make us fancy.

[119] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

[120] You guys are...

[121] Golden gloves, no. But you look at the outfits that we're both wearing.

[122] I think it was maybe the first thing Nicole dressed me in.

[123] When I was like, Kristen, if you want to, I have this awesome friend who's a stylist.

[124] And that's how it all blossomed.

[125] Oh, that's very Amy Polar of you to bring your friends up with you.

[126] Yeah, thank you.

[127] Yeah, I'm so self -centered.

[128] I would have met this other challenging person.

[129] And I would have said, well, the last thing I want her to be looking is cute on red carpet.

[130] So let's, let's advise her to only wear car hearts.

[131] Hey, that's actually a pretty cool fashion statement in itself.

[132] Oh, you don't have to tell me, girl.

[133] I have many a car heart overall.

[134] I don't doubt it.

[135] I do not doubt it down.

[136] So we've come to know each other.

[137] We've been around each other at, like, social events and whatnot.

[138] Well, one time in particular, I remember, which was at Josh Schwartz's house.

[139] Yes.

[140] He has a beautiful house, not far from both of our houses.

[141] Yes.

[142] And he had some kind of shindig.

[143] and I went as Kristen's plus one, and you were there.

[144] Also, your mom was there.

[145] I met Janice.

[146] Yeah, Janice was there.

[147] So Janice is a smoke show.

[148] Oh, my God.

[149] She's going to be so thrilled.

[150] She's so hot.

[151] She's a good number.

[152] She's a good piece.

[153] I got to say.

[154] Then I learn in fast order.

[155] This gal is not just a sex therapist, but she is a tantric sex expert.

[156] Oh, Lord.

[157] Wow.

[158] Well, she, you know, she dabbles in that area, I'll say.

[159] Oh, I know she does.

[160] I have rejected all.

[161] information that she likes to share as her daughter.

[162] I'm like, please.

[163] I mean, the night after I lost my virginity, I was very young, and my mom sits me down.

[164] I swear to God, she's also psychic and is like, let's have the sex talk.

[165] Now did he pleasure you?

[166] I'm like, oh my God.

[167] I'm like a teenager.

[168] And I'm like, oh my God, I'm like sweating in every area possible.

[169] But you know, now looking at it, like this is the movement.

[170] This is exactly what's been denied of women throughout.

[171] She was way ahead of the movement, clearly.

[172] Yeah.

[173] Okay.

[174] So we have this so in common.

[175] My mom, is so open about sex with me. My father was insanely open about sex with me, but at least he was a dude and I didn't have to imagine him in the way that I have to imagine my mother.

[176] I mean, just recently, she's a widow now of two years.

[177] She got on the dating scene.

[178] Yeah, she called me like elated, floating on a pink cloud because she had gotten plowed the night before and was really satisfied with it.

[179] And just shared that.

[180] And I was so happy for her, But yeah, but she inevitably starts giving me, like, details.

[181] And I'm like, you know, I got it, man. This was a great experience.

[182] I'm good with that.

[183] Let's just leave it there.

[184] That's really healthy, though, I think, for parents to be able to speak to their kids about this.

[185] I think you really benefit.

[186] And it's an open topic.

[187] So when you have to experience it yourself, at least you're safe.

[188] You kind of know what's going on.

[189] And you can talk about it.

[190] I think it's huge.

[191] Oh, I'm so into it.

[192] Now, I have two daughters.

[193] So I'm now in the camp of, like, my mom.

[194] So I'll probably try to have.

[195] like open conversations and it'll probably mortify them maybe in a few years well we'll see we'll see we'll see what comes up at dinner hold your daughter six six yeah and she must have at this point asked you some sex questions and stuff so the other day in the car she's like mom where do babies come from and i was like oh fuck uh she's six so you're like i can't really talk about a penis entering a woman's vagina i mean i could but you're six and that's probably horrifying and she's like i know it's like a dad and a mom and then I was like contemplating do I go into like the science of it like you don't have to have a dad and a mom and like you can just make a baby in a lab and it becomes this like elaborate scientific experiment and maybe that's the way to go um so romantic luckily she got distracted by us talking about pop tarts or something so I got to like move on just send her to her grandma that's also a little concerning because I'm like do I want her like when they're doing a yoga move in kindergarten her to do like a tauntric yoga move and then be like, what is that?

[196] Because that could also, that could also happen.

[197] Get those chakras wide open.

[198] Those are talked about very often.

[199] Let's have your mom on.

[200] You should.

[201] Oh, honestly.

[202] Let's do it.

[203] She would love.

[204] Are you kidding?

[205] If you think I've been inappropriate in this interview, wait to you hear how I'm going to speak to your mother.

[206] She will love it and be up for all of it.

[207] Well, when I was talking to her in the backyard of that party, I was like, oh, I met my match.

[208] Like, this gal's not going to ever blush.

[209] I'll definitely take my foot off the gas before she does.

[210] Fully get into it.

[211] No problem.

[212] Yes, it was thrilling.

[213] Okay, back to the kids really quick.

[214] Kristen has this great thing.

[215] I don't know where she picked this up, but instead of even saying the man puts his penis in the vagina and then he sends his sperm up to the ovum, she says, which is so cool, the woman puts the man's penis in her vagina.

[216] Love that.

[217] So you're like starting with this notion that you're in charge of this.

[218] You're in control.

[219] Yeah.

[220] Yeah.

[221] Yeah.

[222] That's amazing.

[223] I love that.

[224] It's really cool.

[225] But you can't even get to the ejaculation part and they're already like, they're so bored with, they heard penis vagina.

[226] Those were scientific and then they're out.

[227] Any story, just make it really long.

[228] So you don't ever have to get to the bottom of it is really the key to parenting.

[229] Now, I've actually brought this up on the show many times.

[230] Monica, you'll remember that I've said this.

[231] Every now and then we'll interview someone that has like some aspect that I would find very intimidating if I were single.

[232] I'm trying to think Monica, who we were just talking to, some female guest.

[233] And I said, like, are men afraid of you?

[234] Oh, Emily Morris.

[235] Oh, yeah, sex therapist.

[236] Yes.

[237] And she said, yeah, yeah, guys are a little nervous.

[238] So I remember telling you at that party, hey, just a pro tip.

[239] Don't ever tell anyone your mom's a tantric sex expert.

[240] Because whatever guy that hears that is going to panic.

[241] I mean, most guys are wrestling already with, like, how long can they last?

[242] Or do you think?

[243] Right.

[244] And then you go, oh, my mom, my mom taught me a, yeah, you're supposed to last.

[245] I should just have a disclaimer, like, I never listened or learned anything, so you're good.

[246] I pulled you aside and I was like, listen, just leave that part out when you're talking about mom.

[247] I do think that's wise advice.

[248] I do.

[249] It's a lot.

[250] It's a lot.

[251] Hey, at least they're not having sex with her.

[252] That's the real intimidating factor.

[253] Were a lot of boys, like when you were younger, kind of hot for your mom?

[254] That's a good question.

[255] Oh, no. We lost Monica.

[256] I'll be right back.

[257] Well, my girlfriend in junior high, Randy Hamina, her mother was so beautiful.

[258] And I would go over to Randy's house for our like daytime hangs that we were allowed to have in junior high.

[259] And I would spend the entire time in the kitchen talking to her mom about like appliances and stuff.

[260] I would talk to her about anything.

[261] And I would like brush up on appliances.

[262] I knew she liked that.

[263] Yeah, I was so smitten with her.

[264] That is so cute.

[265] Did she ever know?

[266] I hope so.

[267] You're like, I put it in all that effort.

[268] Okay, so I wish Monica was here for this.

[269] You're now a record setter on the podcast.

[270] What?

[271] You're ready for this?

[272] Yeah, I'm ready.

[273] Like, we had Jason Ritter on, and Ritter, of course, famously as a son of John Ritter, so he was second generation.

[274] But come to find out, he actually was third generation because his grandfather was this, like, kind of country actor guy.

[275] Oh, cool.

[276] In his own right, was quite popular.

[277] So it was like third generation.

[278] And then reading about you today, I was like, oh, my God, you're fourth generation.

[279] We certainly never interviewed anyone that like four generations of show business.

[280] Yeah, it's kind of crazy.

[281] My great -grandparents came to Hollywood, and my great -grandfather was the head of the trailer department at RKO Pictures, so it goes pretty far back.

[282] And your great -grandmother was a screenwriter, yeah?

[283] Actually got things made.

[284] She wrote screenplays.

[285] That couldn't have been popular back then.

[286] No, definitely not.

[287] It was not a place for a woman, so to speak.

[288] So pretty big deal.

[289] Yeah.

[290] Yeah.

[291] And then your grandfather was a producer and director of Get Smart.

[292] Yeah, he directed a lot of classics.

[293] He won his Emmy for Get Smart.

[294] But yeah, he did all those shows, you know, the Andy Griffith show.

[295] He did a few Brady Bunch, Mary Tyler Moore.

[296] So, I mean, that part's pretty neat.

[297] How often would you see that, Grandad?

[298] I saw him quite a bit growing up.

[299] You know, he still lives in Studio City, where he's always lived, you know, in the Valley.

[300] Oh, he's still alive.

[301] Yeah, he's still alive.

[302] He's 91 maybe.

[303] Good for him and you.

[304] Yeah.

[305] Okay, Monica, I'm going to bring you up to speed.

[306] I was just letting Rachel know that she is now the record holder on armchair expert as the person who's been the most generations in show business.

[307] So beating Jason Ritter, who was three generations, if you remember.

[308] Yeah.

[309] And Rachel is for her great grandmother was a screenwriter and the great grandfather was a work for RKO.

[310] Her granddad directed Get Smart.

[311] Oh, my God.

[312] All right.

[313] Now we're going to get to Dad.

[314] Dad wrote The Rocketeer.

[315] That's right.

[316] you have done your homework.

[317] I'm pretty impressed.

[318] That's incredible, Rachel.

[319] You're downplaying it.

[320] But it's almost impossible for any one generation to make a living in this business.

[321] And then for four growing up where anyone you would have looked above you was in this occupation.

[322] So I kind of wonder, does that demystify it or does it heighten the need to succeed in it?

[323] I think it definitely demystifies it.

[324] Like for me, it was going to my dad's work was.

[325] going to set.

[326] And my friends and I in sixth grade would go and hang out in the trailer, get our hair done, go to craft service, obviously, was the best thing ever, as much candy as possible.

[327] And that was my experience.

[328] It was just, I'm just going to go to my dad's working.

[329] It's fun and it's cool and there's things about it.

[330] But it definitely was like just kind of how life was growing up.

[331] So getting put into it, it wasn't like, oh my God, like this crazy world that you don't know what it's like or what to expect.

[332] I was a little more.

[333] more comfortable.

[334] That is so comforting to me as the dad of two daughters who yeah, go to set and then I'm constantly like, are they getting more interested in this or less interested?

[335] And I do believe it's less interested.

[336] When you say, Monica, they're not into it.

[337] I mean, they're fine, but it's not exciting, like you said.

[338] You know, like a bunch of the pod kids went to see a live taping of one of our other friend shows.

[339] Yeah.

[340] And like a kid show.

[341] Yeah, a kid show.

[342] And Lincoln was just like, she went, but you could tell she was just like, it was normal to her.

[343] And for everyone else, they're like, this is so exciting.

[344] Sure.

[345] Until hour six of the experience.

[346] Yeah, and everyone was like, we hate this.

[347] Yeah, just take a kid to like one taping of anything.

[348] And they're like, I'm good.

[349] Yeah.

[350] By the way, take anybody to a set.

[351] It's my favorite thing to do is like have someone visit from Michigan who's so excited to come to a set.

[352] They are blown away for 11 minutes.

[353] And then they're like, okay.

[354] Wow.

[355] So this is a boring fucking job, huh?

[356] Most of the day, you're just watching people light a scene.

[357] Right.

[358] That's right.

[359] Isn't it great?

[360] Now, not only were your parents in it, but also you were going to Notre Dame.

[361] Yes.

[362] So your peers are also, like, in it.

[363] Yeah, Kirsten Dunst was there with me. And she was already working.

[364] Already kissed Brad Pitt and, you know.

[365] Oh, oh.

[366] Yeah, I know.

[367] Wait, did they kiss in that movie?

[368] Yeah, she was like 11.

[369] Oh, no. Yeah, Brad Pitt.

[370] Wasn't it?

[371] Yeah.

[372] Brad Pitt and Tompkins.

[373] Isn't that interview with the vampire?

[374] Yes, it is.

[375] Tristan or something?

[376] Yeah.

[377] Hold on.

[378] Hold on.

[379] No. Oh, my God.

[380] No, no. I thought the vampire's name was Tristan.

[381] Oh, no. But that's his name from Legends of the Fall, Dad.

[382] Get Brad Pitt right.

[383] Don't ever fucking challenge me to a Brad Pitt off.

[384] Okay.

[385] But hold on.

[386] Let's back up because I remember watching that movie.

[387] And, of course, in the movie, Kirsten, Monica, is playing like a hundred -year -old vampire.

[388] But she's a child.

[389] Right, right, right.

[390] In real life, she's a child, Monica.

[391] She kisses them?

[392] I don't remember this.

[393] She definitely kissed Brad Pitt.

[394] Okay, okay.

[395] We got to really get into this for a second.

[396] I mean, I feel like this is in a lot of interviews with her where she has to talk about how it was to kiss Brad Pitt.

[397] She was 11.

[398] Oh, my God.

[399] Wow.

[400] Also, that does not age great.

[401] No. That's not great right now in 2021.

[402] Yeah.

[403] Yeah.

[404] It's not a great look.

[405] It's not a great look.

[406] But we're not blaming Brad, obviously.

[407] No. This almost goes into this week's episode of 270, Monica, where it's like, I'm my best friend Aaron when he was 10 was in karate and he had to fight a girl.

[408] His opponent was a girl.

[409] Oh, wow.

[410] So you got to like, you got to respect her by trying to kick her ass, but it's just a terrible setup.

[411] So, you know, what's Brad's supposed to do?

[412] You get this actress, she wants to be taken seriously.

[413] It's all a mess.

[414] Oh, my God.

[415] You're right, though, because I watch that and I was like, oh, he's a hundred year old vampire.

[416] Nothing to see here.

[417] Yeah, you don't even think about it.

[418] Sure.

[419] Nothing to see here.

[420] Totally normal.

[421] Just a run -of -the -mill, 11 -year -old, 100 -year -old vampire kissing the sexiest man in the world.

[422] Okay.

[423] Okay.

[424] Have you been having this lately?

[425] Monica and I have been just swirling in it.

[426] It's like almost everything we consume now is shining a light on how bonkers it was five seconds ago.

[427] So did you watch the Britney Spears doc?

[428] No, but I've heard about it and how gnarly it is.

[429] You have to watch it.

[430] I want to watch it.

[431] Well, first they show a clip of Eddney's.

[432] McMahon when she she was on star search when what was she Monica six seven eight seven or something yeah and here's the conversation rachel do you have a boyfriend no why not i don't like boys they're mean what about me i'm not mean can i be your boyfriend this is a fucking 70 year old grandpa what hey i probably would have said the same dumb thing in 1980 oh well everything has been so brought to light, so to speak, and you're just like, holy shit.

[433] Like, how did people get away with so much of that for so long?

[434] I'm almost grateful I was present.

[435] Because, like, if I were born now and I watched it, I'd be like, they were crazy.

[436] Right.

[437] But I was there and none of that stuff seemed weird.

[438] And then they keep showing clips of, like, the late night talk show hosts who are making jokes at their expense.

[439] But the jokes are, I mean, they're so misogynistic in fucking evil.

[440] Or in interviews, they're at, you know, some 50 -year -old guys like, well, you know, Brittany, I've got to ask, are your breasts real?

[441] Are you a virgin?

[442] It's so funny, because this came up recently, and I thought about all the things I watched as a kid.

[443] I was big into musicals, right?

[444] And then I'm thinking back on some of these.

[445] I don't know if you guys know this one, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.

[446] It's basically about seven brothers kidnapping women, causing an avalanche so no one can get to them, to trap them, and they fall in love and they, like, get married at the end.

[447] You know what I mean?

[448] And I'm like, maybe that's why I have so many issues with men.

[449] I'm like, yeah, Stockholm syndrome.

[450] That's a play about Stockholm syndrome.

[451] Basically, and I'm like, is that what I was raised with?

[452] I'm like waiting for someone to just come and steal me, you know?

[453] And like, yeah.

[454] But it's true because I know that's obviously way further back, those musicals and those movies back then, but thinking about it now, it's pretty crazy.

[455] Yeah, and again, this stuff that's in the, the Brittany doc, I mean, you were active.

[456] You know, you were being interviewed.

[457] I'm sure if you went through, you probably just, it's like white noise, but I guarantee if we got every clip of every interview you did, especially when you were like a sex symbol on the OC and you were young, I bet you got asked the craziest shit and have just forgotten.

[458] There was no filter, no awareness, so I'm sure there's just a bunch of shit out there that's incredibly inappropriate.

[459] I even did photoshoots that are incredibly inappropriate.

[460] Just like, if any woman at that time had been ahead of their time and had the wherewithal to be like, hey, this is kind of crazy for you to ask me that.

[461] You're not asking him that.

[462] Right.

[463] Then they would be a bitch.

[464] Right.

[465] Yeah.

[466] Ungrateful.

[467] Totally.

[468] If you were a strong woman, you were like thought of as aggressive.

[469] Yeah.

[470] I remember the argument, Monica, because some women did do that.

[471] And they said, oh, fuck you, you want to be a sex symbol and you want us to pay money for you to be sexy.

[472] And now all of a sudden you don't want to talk about being sexy.

[473] Fuck you.

[474] Like, that was the attitude.

[475] Like, you signed up for this, you wanted to be a sex symbol, and this is what comes with it.

[476] Right.

[477] But it didn't come with that for guys.

[478] Exactly.

[479] No, it sure didn't.

[480] If that was a true principle we all believed in, it would have been happening to Timberlake in every interview.

[481] Right.

[482] You got your dick wet yet, your little pansy?

[483] Yeah.

[484] You know, that wasn't happening.

[485] How big is your dick?

[486] I got to ask, the women want to know.

[487] How big is your dick?

[488] Hey, JT, we love the new single.

[489] How long do you last in bed?

[490] Have you met Janice?

[491] He will expect you to last 14 hours.

[492] Good luck with the LB.

[493] These are the questions women really want to know.

[494] Yeah, exactly.

[495] We're on to something.

[496] What the hell were we talking about?

[497] Oh, your school.

[498] Yeah, oh, right, who I went to school with.

[499] Oh, my God, yes.

[500] Kirsten Kirsten, fucking, wow.

[501] I'm still kind of spinning from that.

[502] I mean, I am jealous.

[503] I don't want to be jealous, but I am.

[504] Everyone is.

[505] Even though she's 11, you're still jealous.

[506] I know.

[507] Guys, it's a complicated world.

[508] It's complicated.

[509] It is complicated.

[510] She's a victim and a victor.

[511] Oh, man. I would never let that happen to someone, and I'd kill to have been her.

[512] Okay, I want to ask you one salacious question.

[513] So another one of your classmates at Notre Dame was Romney Malick.

[514] Now, he's a twin as well.

[515] Is he a twin?

[516] Okay, I need you to help me. Sure.

[517] First of all, I love DiRobot.

[518] So I have immense respect for him.

[519] his talent.

[520] Yeah.

[521] And then I met him, I think I met him, I met him at one of the, not a CW party, he actually was like, well, I know Efron who played Pedro in, vote for Pedro.

[522] Oh, Napoleon, I know.

[523] Yes.

[524] Okay.

[525] Yes.

[526] So Eifron, he has an identical twin.

[527] And the identical twin did cruise through Hollywood as Eifron all the time.

[528] So it's really cool for the brother who doesn't have to go to work but can just be famous is awesome.

[529] They don't look enough to like to do that.

[530] I mean, they do.

[531] Oh, they don't.

[532] But there were enough differences to definitely tell them apart.

[533] Now, I'm a little disadvantaged because I had never met him in real life.

[534] I'd only seen him an I robot.

[535] So again, it probably was him.

[536] But it did cross my mind.

[537] Is this his brother?

[538] Okay.

[539] I'm just going to come right out with it.

[540] Yeah.

[541] It was one of the weirdest conversations I've ever had.

[542] And I kept thinking the whole time, what is happening in this conversation?

[543] Is he, A, truly this unique?

[544] or is he be, is he building a mystique about himself?

[545] Right.

[546] Is he navigating the world with building this mystique?

[547] And I guess I was just wondering in high school, what kind of kid was he?

[548] Okay, I have a funny story for you.

[549] So Rami was a good friend of mine.

[550] Like we were all - Oh, he was?

[551] Yeah, we were the same crew.

[552] We did the crucible together senior year.

[553] We were the leads in it together, like all these things, right?

[554] We kind of kept in contact a little bit.

[555] So obviously he gets super famous.

[556] And he's always been extremely talented, a really amazing actor, even in high school.

[557] Yeah.

[558] He's a phenom.

[559] I mean, he really is.

[560] I mean, he's super talented.

[561] I had posted a throwback of us from our senior trip to New York, Broadway.

[562] We're super, like, nerdy, like, just, you know, the dorkiest picture of both of us.

[563] But I throw it up because it's funny.

[564] And I think it's so important to be able to make funny yourself.

[565] And he had like a gold chain.

[566] And I'm like, Rami, where did you get the gold chain?

[567] Whatever.

[568] So I think, you know, I'm just being funny.

[569] We were good friends.

[570] I don't usually check my DMs on my Instagram, you know, and like maybe a week goes by and I actually look, and I have a message from Rami, but it wasn't like, hey, how are you?

[571] Blah, blah, blah, blah.

[572] It was like straight to, I would really appreciate if you take that down.

[573] I'm a really private person.

[574] And I was like, oh, shit.

[575] Okay.

[576] Like, I get like really hot.

[577] I like start sweating and I'm like all nervous, like, oh my God, like what did I do?

[578] You know, because he was like a good friend of mine and it's a funny picture.

[579] Yeah.

[580] You know, I don't take myself that seriously.

[581] It's fun, yeah.

[582] By the way, I'd be flattered to have been in a photo with you on this trip.

[583] Like, it's flattering.

[584] I guess he didn't like the picture of himself.

[585] And I'm friends with his stylist and she was like, well, it's not a great picture of him.

[586] And I was like, okay, like I'm from high school.

[587] We were 16.

[588] There aren't great pictures from high school.

[589] It's a bummer if you see someone's high school picture and it is flattering.

[590] Oh, my God.

[591] You don't want that.

[592] You don't want it to look.

[593] I had some weird shows.

[594] law thing going on.

[595] I mean, it was what it was.

[596] And I was like, you know, we're just going to accept it.

[597] But it was right before the Oscars.

[598] And I remember Josh Schwartz being like, you did him dirty.

[599] He's about to be, I'm like, what do you mean?

[600] You did him dirty.

[601] It's like, what do you mean?

[602] Like, this was my friend.

[603] It's a funny picture.

[604] And I was like, well, I guess I should have found something more flattering.

[605] I don't know, you know.

[606] But I removed it.

[607] And I even wrote to him like a really nice message.

[608] Like, I'm so sorry.

[609] Go get the Oscar.

[610] Like, you're doing amazing, you know, and I never hear anything back, which is fun.

[611] No, no one was in blackface in the photo, right?

[612] It's not like a career.

[613] It was like as if someone was.

[614] Like, that was definitely how it felt.

[615] But I was super bum because he was always so nice and we were good friends.

[616] And I was just like, I'm a big fan of not taking yourself seriously, especially at that level of fame and talent.

[617] But look, he wants to be super respected.

[618] It's his thing.

[619] So I respected it.

[620] I took it down.

[621] I was just a little bummed at how it was handled.

[622] I'll have to show you the picture.

[623] I guarantee I'll find it a door.

[624] Yeah.

[625] I think it's adorable.

[626] And the gold chain, it's in fashion now.

[627] He was ahead of the time.

[628] Nicole loves gold.

[629] Nicole loves gold.

[630] She does.

[631] She brought it back.

[632] Stay tuned for more armchair expert, if you dare.

[633] What's up guys?

[634] This is your girl Kiki.

[635] And my podcast is back with a new season.

[636] And let me tell you, it's too good.

[637] And I'm diving into the brains of entertainment's best and brightest.

[638] Okay.

[639] Every episode.

[640] I bring on a friend and have a real conversation.

[641] And I don't mean just friends.

[642] I mean the likes of Amy Poehler, Kell Mitchell, Vivica Fox, the list goes on.

[643] So follow, watch, and listen to Baby.

[644] This is Kiki Palmer on the Wondery app or wherever you get your podcast.

[645] We've all been there.

[646] Turning to the internet to self -diagnose our inexplicable pains, debilitating body aches, sudden fevers, and strange rashes.

[647] Though our minds tend to spiral to worst -case scenarios, it's usually nothing.

[648] but for an unlucky few, these unsuspecting symptoms can start the clock ticking on a terrifying medical mystery.

[649] Like the unexplainable death of a retired firefighter, whose body was found at home by his son, except it looked like he had been cremated, or the time when an entire town started jumping from buildings and seeing tigers on their ceilings.

[650] Hey listeners, it's Mr. Ballin here, and I'm here to tell you about my podcast.

[651] It's called Mr. Ballin's Medical Mysteries.

[652] Each terrifying true story will be sure to keep you up at night.

[653] Follow Mr. Ballin's Medical Mysteries wherever you get your podcasts.

[654] Prime members can listen early and ad free on Amazon Music.

[655] Okay.

[656] So now we're getting into OC, which of course is what the topic of your new podcast is, which has a great title called Welcome to the OC bitches.

[657] Solid title.

[658] Thank you.

[659] Who came up with that title?

[660] I believe it was I. And Josh signed off on it.

[661] He's like, that's the only one you can do.

[662] Oh, good, good, good, good.

[663] There's a neat barometer to judge how people are on set.

[664] One of the big tells of how someone is to work with is if people continue to work with them forever.

[665] Like, that's the number one for me, like, well, that person can't be an asshole because they keep, you know.

[666] And of course, you have this great relationship with Josh Schwartz who created the OC.

[667] And so I immediately, that informed me like, oh, you're great to have on a cast.

[668] because why would he deal with it ever again if he didn't have to?

[669] Well, thanks for saying that.

[670] Josh is like my brother.

[671] I think maybe it goes back to growing up the way I did and just always being professional because my dad would always say to me, do your job and do it well because it's your job.

[672] So I don't take it for granted and I just like to consider everybody involved crew, the whole thing.

[673] So I really always do try my best to continually be grateful and professional because there's no point.

[674] You know, you work with some people that are just assholes and what, and you're just like, but why?

[675] It all comes from, I believe, insecurity, especially like I've seen it in lead people, I'll say, I won't, you know, gender, whatever.

[676] Guys, yeah.

[677] But just comes from insecurity.

[678] Like, it's how they feel more validated and in control.

[679] In control, for sure, you know, the voids that are inside them and that's how it comes out.

[680] And it's unfortunate because a lot of these people are really talented.

[681] but it does stem from that.

[682] Yeah.

[683] I did a movie with an older, I think several Academy Awards actor, a hero.

[684] And he had like three or four volcanic meltdowns.

[685] And at first I was just like, oh, wow, I wasn't expecting this.

[686] But I saw the pattern.

[687] And the pattern actually was, it was always the day before he would have a day of like tons of dialogue.

[688] And he was older.

[689] It was unexcusable.

[690] The behavior was totally unexcusable.

[691] But I realized, oh, man, he's afraid.

[692] Tomorrow's scary for him to memorize three pages of monologue.

[693] And he's letting the director know, like, if I get it, fucking I got it.

[694] You know, like, he's scared.

[695] And he's trying to set some weird boundary where like, hey, if I get it, man, that's that.

[696] And again, it's totally inexcusable.

[697] But at least I saw where it was coming from.

[698] It wasn't just like inexplicable.

[699] Right.

[700] Okay.

[701] So are you 22 when you get the OC?

[702] I was 21 when I got it.

[703] Okay.

[704] Oh, perfect.

[705] So you can drink with the cast.

[706] Yeah.

[707] because I didn't do that before.

[708] No, I did.

[709] I'm a shame that I don't know more about the OC because I guarantee I would love it because I was obsessed with Beverly Hills 90210 .1.

[710] I mean, it was just, it was my life.

[711] But you weren't originally a cast member, right?

[712] You weren't cast as like the main group initially.

[713] Right.

[714] I was a guest star, I think, for like, the first eight episodes, I want to say.

[715] But Josh just liked what I was doing with the character, really liked the Seth Summer dynamic.

[716] That's Adam Brody's character and myself.

[717] And just went with it.

[718] he liked what was happening.

[719] I think he said I had him at one of a line I had that was like, I got to pee.

[720] And he was like, okay, like, she's cast.

[721] She's good.

[722] Uh -huh.

[723] It's kind of the best thing that can happen, right?

[724] Because you, as a guest star, you're like, well, this will end.

[725] I'm like proceeding as if this will end.

[726] And then to find out, oh, my God.

[727] It's so rare that that happens.

[728] And you don't have to, like, test, which is when, you know, you go in front of all of the big wigs at the network and you've to audition for them too.

[729] And it's totally nerve -wracking.

[730] And I think a lot of people choke.

[731] I know I would.

[732] So I got to skip that step, which was super lucky because I definitely wouldn't have gotten it if I had to do that.

[733] It's so nerve -wracking.

[734] But yeah, and so it was great.

[735] I mean, obviously I couldn't have asked for anything better and for it to just keep growing and progressing the way it did.

[736] Yeah.

[737] So it was like an overnight phenomenon.

[738] It was like Beverly Hills 902 and O. It was like in the zeitgeist.

[739] It was on, everyone was on covers of magazines and stuff.

[740] That's a tremendous amount of attention to get at 21.

[741] Did you feel, like, better set up to deal with that, having been around this stuff so much?

[742] You know, it is interesting.

[743] Like, Misha was 16, okay?

[744] Oh, my God.

[745] I can't even imagine.

[746] I think I kind of got a lot out of my system early growing up in L .A. So I wasn't at the clubs falling out of the cars, panty list.

[747] Right, right.

[748] But it was a little different for me. And I was in a relationship during the show, which I think also helped keep you.

[749] With Adam or a different?

[750] Yeah, with Adam.

[751] Okay.

[752] Kept me at home, playing board games and watching really great TV like Jeopardy.

[753] We did go out.

[754] But it was just a different thing.

[755] Yeah, there was like stability within that chaos.

[756] And I did grow up kind of fast, did all the stuff a little early.

[757] So they both were working in my favor.

[758] I don't know if you know this, but we are in love with Adam.

[759] Yeah.

[760] He was on your show, right?

[761] Yeah.

[762] Yes.

[763] I think he's so talented.

[764] Yeah.

[765] He's super talented.

[766] He was super cute.

[767] He was like kind of a. a, I don't know, what he's, as they say?

[768] Yeah, but I like him because his interests are so eclectic and he's so knowledgeable on so many things.

[769] And I mean, I got to direct him in chips and just like the things you could give him and what he could do with it, like in one second was like, probably my favorite person I've ever directed.

[770] I just love him.

[771] So I'm sad you're not married.

[772] I guess that's a long way to say.

[773] What you're trying to get out is, yeah.

[774] I think we do a lot of double dating if you guys were married.

[775] Yeah, we probably would.

[776] I should just find someone that we could.

[777] double date with.

[778] I think that's the goal here.

[779] Okay.

[780] Well, let's put that out into the ether and we'll see what we put the lure in the water.

[781] That's the real reason for this interview.

[782] Of course it is.

[783] Yeah, Brody's so cool.

[784] I mean, he really could do anything with a material and just make it his own.

[785] And his choices were always so smart.

[786] And I really admired that.

[787] And I think working with him that young really helped me acting wise because I was working opposite at him and it made me grow tremendously.

[788] Well, I bet what you saw in him was a confidence that allowed him to be loose.

[789] Like a freedom.

[790] It was a freedom to kind of make it your own, not be afraid to choose improv, whatever it is.

[791] It made it so much more comfortable to like try things and just do it and be whatever you want to be.

[792] I remember even a really stupid insignificant example for me was being on parenthood like year one.

[793] And I was walking with joy through a, like, store.

[794] And, like, normally prior to that job, I would have been thinking, like, oh, what do they want?

[795] They want this emotional thing, blah, blah, blah.

[796] And I just had the moment to go, I've never walked through a store where I walked by those little squishy balls where I didn't grab one and then juggle it the rest of the time I was at the store.

[797] Right.

[798] And just because I wasn't so focused on what they wanted and I actually had a second to think how I walked through a store.

[799] Right.

[800] Like, I did that.

[801] So even if I'm saying the words exactly, I've actually just thought, like, what do I do when I want to a store not what did they want me to do when I walk through a store.

[802] Yeah, but that's so smart.

[803] And then it's also a better performance because it's more natural and it's like, you're doing what you do.

[804] Well, yeah, I'm concentrating so hard on not dropping the ball.

[805] It becomes all about the ball.

[806] Yeah, but then you're not so focused on the words than usually, I think, for me anyways, it's a better performance.

[807] Yeah, I totally agree.

[808] Now, how quickly into shooting that did you and Brody start dating?

[809] It wasn't immediate.

[810] He had a girlfriend.

[811] I think I was dating someone.

[812] first few months definitely within the first season because it went four seasons and you guys were together for three years so did you guys break up on the show and if so what on earth is that experience like?

[813] We broke up at the very end so there wasn't much after the breakup we did get married after we broke up on the show which was that's always fun that feels like they did that to you on purpose totally that was like the only scene left to shoot was the wedding.

[814] I thought you broke up.

[815] Let's give you a wedding.

[816] But yeah, that was definitely at the end.

[817] But, you know, we still got along really well.

[818] I had so much, and still do love and respect for Adam.

[819] And we went through so much together, being so young and everything with the shows.

[820] And I'm so happy for him with his family and his beautiful wife and kids and everything.

[821] She's lovely.

[822] No disrespect to her when I want you guys to be married.

[823] But they live in fucking tapanga, so I will never see them ever, ever, ever, unless we work together.

[824] Unless you pick up surfing.

[825] Yeah, so it's just a better fit for my lifestyle.

[826] Totally.

[827] Yeah, it's just logistically, geographically convenient.

[828] So your new podcast, Bitches.

[829] Yeah, it's O .C. Bitches.

[830] Welcome to the O .C. bitches.

[831] You and your friend who is on the show.

[832] Yes, she played Nisha's mom, Julie Cooper, aka Melinda Clark, is doing it with me. Yeah.

[833] She's so awesome and was always so cool.

[834] And we kind of both started off as the O .C. bitches.

[835] our characters and everything.

[836] And I thought it would just be so fun to recap them all with her.

[837] She's so entertaining and just really, really cool.

[838] Yeah.

[839] So yeah, I asked her and we are very excited.

[840] You will talk about a specific episode per episode, yeah?

[841] Yeah.

[842] So it is a rewatch based podcast, but we'll definitely talk about everything.

[843] We've done one so far and basically catching up, shooting the shit, talking about behind the scene stuff.

[844] But there is one episode in particular we're supposed to cover.

[845] Now, what is your experience?

[846] I was just talking to, oh, on Monday, Monica, one of the guests I was saying to them.

[847] I noticed chips came up on HBO Max, like they've added it.

[848] And I saw it there.

[849] And the amount of fear I had looking at the poster, I was like, I know better than to ever watch this movie again as long as I live.

[850] Because I have a memory of what the movie is.

[851] Okay.

[852] And I don't want to fuck with that memory.

[853] I love the memory of what it is Because I was one time in Europe And the only thing that was on TV in English Was punked I watched about eight minutes of it And I was like Oh my goodness This isn't anything What I remember it was And I'm like And I don't Some parenthood, right?

[854] I haven't I want to But I'm also nervous Because I remember that as being great I get it I mean going back and watching The OC I was sobbing basically Because what life was then and being that young and not knowing what it's what it is now and like what it's going to be and the fashion it was just like horrifying no it was just like it was really interesting to kind to kind of go back and see yourself in that time and not have a crazy a reaction you know emotional reaction especially after the year we've had and just being like holy fuck think sure yeah you had you had such a community and you were with those people what nine months of the year 12 hours a day Yeah, yeah.

[855] And now you're all by yourself for 24 hours a day.

[856] With a six -year -old teaching kindergarten.

[857] Life's a little different.

[858] It took a turn.

[859] It took a sharp turn.

[860] Sharp turn uphill.

[861] For me, it's just like, oh, my God, this little person that knows nothing.

[862] It is so weird even for anyone.

[863] Like, I know I'm home and I'm in my childhood bedroom and like looking at pictures and there's like cheerleading stuff.

[864] And it is so strange to look at it and think.

[865] like that person doesn't know what's about to happen.

[866] Right.

[867] And to like get back into that headspace of like, oh my gosh.

[868] It's very mind -fucky to be like, that person doesn't know what's about to happen.

[869] I right now don't know what's about to happen in the future.

[870] Like time machine, weird shit.

[871] Like, just that's basically what's happening.

[872] You and your bedroom, me watching the show.

[873] It's just like, it's the same idea.

[874] You're just like, wow, that person had no idea.

[875] And Monica, the risk of making you sound.

[876] self -congratulatory, which I don't want to do.

[877] But when you're looking at that cute little gal from Georgia from Duluth in the cheerleading outfit, are you proud of her?

[878] Yeah, I am.

[879] I am, but that's not the resounding feeling.

[880] It's weird.

[881] I think that should be the resounding feeling.

[882] Right.

[883] But it's more like, oh, life is so crazy.

[884] And you don't know where it's going to go and where it's going to take you.

[885] And it's exciting.

[886] But there's a there's a fear.

[887] there.

[888] That person had so many dreams and then she did all these, like you almost separated as you can see her as a different thing.

[889] Yeah.

[890] Watch the movie of it a little bit and it's, and to know there's more coming another movie that I don't know yet.

[891] You know, it's like, oh God, what's that going to be?

[892] Right.

[893] More like anticipatory anxiety.

[894] Yeah, it's like, yeah, it gives me anxiety.

[895] Well, let's hope it's not a year seclusion with a six year old.

[896] Sorry, Rachel.

[897] Yeah, let me just tell you One thing to avoid.

[898] No, it's been all right.

[899] Now, Rachel, what has your anxiety level been throughout your career?

[900] Is it been helpful that you, again, had three generations of people that never did starve having picked this career?

[901] Because I know most of my friends who are in this business who have moved here from somewhere else and feel like they got incredibly lucky as I do.

[902] You also have this healthy fear of like, oh, the ride's going to be over.

[903] Like, there's just too much luck involved.

[904] Have you avoided that?

[905] You know, some ex -boyfriends have called this a problem that I'm kind of like floating in a bubble, so to speak.

[906] And I'm like, okay.

[907] But it's just because, like, I'm not, like, dark and anxious or, like, negative or something.

[908] I don't know.

[909] But I try not to get wrapped up in what's going to happen.

[910] And it's hard.

[911] It's a practice.

[912] Like, it's really hard to stay present.

[913] But with my mom, as you know, raising me, aside from tantric sex, you know, is just being present.

[914] And in the moment has been a big thing as well.

[915] So I try to just be like, oh, you know, good attitude.

[916] I definitely practice trying to stay present and not worry.

[917] This is a totally inappropriate question, but I'm going to ask it.

[918] And Monica can cut it.

[919] But would you hear your mother in like the throes of these sessions?

[920] Like, these long, like it's one thing to hear your parents fucking.

[921] Like, we've all heard it.

[922] But it's over quickly.

[923] You're like, oh, this is gross.

[924] But it'll be over quickly.

[925] But if you hear your mom rev up, it could be ours.

[926] All night long.

[927] I'm sorry, I got to get over this tantric sex thing.

[928] My parents divorced when I was nine, so she was a single mom.

[929] So a lot of that wasn't brought into the home.

[930] I thought you were asking if when Rachel was having sex, if she could, like, hear her mom's, like, instruction in her head.

[931] Like, if her head was filled with...

[932] Oh, my God.

[933] I went on a talk show once, and I think I brought up Kuna Lingus, and I called it that because my mom does.

[934] And I think it was Wendy Williams, and she cut it because she was so horrified.

[935] that I said that word and I was like, but isn't that like the proper way to say it?

[936] Maybe she's like, why are you talking about it?

[937] Unfortunately, I didn't think I'd ever say this, but I'm going to have to side with Wendy on this.

[938] Only in that, it's one of the few medical versions of it that sounds way grosser than any of the colloquial.

[939] I don't think that was her problem with it, though.

[940] Right.

[941] He was just like, the idea of a dude going down on a girl was just like, this is the Wendy Williams daytime show.

[942] Right.

[943] Let's just act that.

[944] But yeah, if you say like, oh, this person went down on this person, you're like, oh, this sounds fun.

[945] If you say this person committed, conalinked on this person, it sounds like a murder.

[946] Her vagina was murdered, like brutally.

[947] Yeah, it sounds a little bit like a procedure happened.

[948] Now, it'd that go over.

[949] Okay, now here's another fun thing.

[950] And again, I kind of flatter myself into saying I was a part of it, but there isn't really any proof of it.

[951] But it did all happen at the same time.

[952] So I was shooting baby mama in New York, and I was there for that three months, and I had been in some tabloid photos.

[953] So it was like if you were in any way investigating, it would be clear I was in New York, okay?

[954] So my house was broken into and robbed.

[955] Now, I then learned your house was broken into, I knew that part.

[956] I didn't know multiple times, multiple times.

[957] Five times.

[958] Not only that, I read that one of the robbers said they got so comfortable, they pooped in my bathroom.

[959] which was a million times worse than stealing my designer purses.

[960] I was like, I'm never going back in this house.

[961] Oh, my God, ew.

[962] No, but that's what they said.

[963] Like, really, that's what you want to, like, divulge to vanity fair that you took a shit?

[964] Like, what is happening here?

[965] Oh, my goodness, Rachel.

[966] That was my biggest takeaway.

[967] Yeah, five times ago.

[968] Thank you.

[969] That was not in my notes, and that is by far my favorite part of this.

[970] Well, that's the best part of the whole thing.

[971] I mean, let's be honest.

[972] We were watching that.

[973] gruesome docus series about the East Bay Strangler, Golden Street.

[974] You know, what was the, on Netflix?

[975] Was it the Netflix one?

[976] I think so.

[977] He had like three or four names.

[978] I don't know.

[979] Golden State Killer.

[980] Golden State Killer.

[981] Yeah, and his jam was kind of like tie people up and then just relax.

[982] Eat some food, cook some stuff.

[983] It's so fucking weird.

[984] Oh my God.

[985] People are fucking weird.

[986] And think, like, that's the thing they're getting off on.

[987] Like, I would be panicked in that situation.

[988] I got to do whatever weird thing I got to do.

[989] And I got to do it on a time clock because the cops are going to show up.

[990] And this person was like, no, no, what is?

[991] I'm going to get out of paper.

[992] I'm going to sit, plop right down.

[993] Now, this is relevant.

[994] I think that there are men and women involved in the bling ring, yeah?

[995] I believe so, yeah.

[996] So is it the female that shit in your house or male?

[997] Yeah, it was a female.

[998] No shame.

[999] I would pick that.

[1000] Of course.

[1001] Yeah.

[1002] Of course it's the girl.

[1003] I mean, the guys don't give a shit.

[1004] They're like, you know what I mean?

[1005] That's nothing to them.

[1006] But this girl was like, you know, I'm going to fucking poop.

[1007] Yeah.

[1008] I kind of like this girl.

[1009] I mean, I hate to say, yeah.

[1010] No, no. Okay.

[1011] All right.

[1012] So here's how I felt about it.

[1013] Yeah.

[1014] I'm also a guy, right?

[1015] And I own a gun and I have been in a lot of fights.

[1016] So the threat level for me wasn't triggered.

[1017] Like I wasn't worried someone was going to come hurt me, which is drastically different for you, obviously.

[1018] But when I discovered it, I guess my first thought was like, I'm glad they didn't trash my house.

[1019] Like they stole shit.

[1020] That's a bummer.

[1021] But I'm glad I'm not.

[1022] replacing like windows and they didn't tear everything apart and i was out of town and it clearly happened like a month ago so it was like long over but for you it was really scary right you know what it was until i found out that it was a group of kids who just were going around stealing designer shit or expensive whatever it was it was like okay at least it's not some crazy like serial killer wanting to kill me and stab me like some kirsten duns obsessed with Brad Pitt, yeah.

[1023] Like, it made it a little more comforting for lack of a better word.

[1024] Like, these kids were just like, oh, I like how you dress.

[1025] I'm like, okay, am I flattered or am I upset?

[1026] Thank you and fuck you.

[1027] Yeah, thank you.

[1028] Were you home?

[1029] No, I was in Canada at the time.

[1030] Apparently, my door was on lock, something really stupid, you know?

[1031] Like, and they just kept walking in.

[1032] So nothing was broken just like you.

[1033] Nothing looked amiss.

[1034] Just everything was gone.

[1035] But it also taught me to not have any sort of attachment to material things.

[1036] But at that point, yeah, you had a really extensive, cool, you're super into fashion, right?

[1037] So you had a ton of neat clothing?

[1038] Yeah, I was really into the collection I had.

[1039] A lot of it was those designer bags and shoes.

[1040] And Monica, like, we talked about who the fuck is going to wear these shoes?

[1041] Who was buying these?

[1042] Yeah, were they selling them or were they wearing them?

[1043] Well, nothing was ever recovered.

[1044] I got a terrible hunch that every morning when this lady had to evacuate, she put on a pair of your shoes and went into the bathroom.

[1045] Into the bathroom.

[1046] I think it's a part of a whole twisted thing.

[1047] She probably should in one or two of the shoes.

[1048] She just really went and ran with it.

[1049] Now, you weren't ever like at court or anything, right?

[1050] You never saw these people in real life.

[1051] No. Did I go to a police station once, maybe?

[1052] That's kind of vaguely familiar.

[1053] No, I never had to see them.

[1054] And then there was a movie made about them that I never watched because I was like, let's not glorify this, you know?

[1055] Like, I'm over it, but like, that's not glorify it.

[1056] Did Sophia make that movie?

[1057] Yeah, she did, which was kind of surprising, but I didn't see it.

[1058] So in all fairness, I don't know what it was about, really.

[1059] Herein lies, the complicated part about life is like, when you know somebody, it's one thing.

[1060] And then, like, looking at it from the outside, if I live in, I'm back in Michigan, and I hear that I can almost frame it as like this punk rock thing where these people were like, we're going to just go through people shit.

[1061] And then, of course, if I know a human being and I personally was robbed, then it's like, oh it's not very punk rock it's just it's annoying and it's not cool but i can see why sophia would be drawn to that because it's just like anarchy yeah yeah no i get it and nothing against her yeah yeah and it's a really really interesting commentary on that moment in time which is what am i right in that they were picking people that they knew were out of town from tabloids isn't that part of it i think so i mean i think it was pre -in -stagram if i'm not mistaken So they couldn't just go on and see, but you could tell, you could see paparazzi photos of people going to the airport and know that they're out of town.

[1062] Yeah.

[1063] So I think that was definitely part of it.

[1064] Yeah, it was like 0 .7 or 08, I think, something like that.

[1065] Yeah.

[1066] Yeah, that sounds about right.

[1067] But it is a weird comment on the culture at that point.

[1068] Yeah, that like people are getting tracked.

[1069] I think a lot of people were like, oh, duh, yeah, that's a great way to steal.

[1070] To track someone.

[1071] Yeah.

[1072] I remember at the time, paparazzi was such a big thing then in particular, you know, with all the, Brittany stuff, everything.

[1073] Like, I remembered being in Los Phyllis and being followed by numerous.

[1074] I know it still is a thing now.

[1075] But at that time, pre - Instagram.

[1076] Right, because there wasn't Instagram and all those things.

[1077] So it definitely was heightened, I feel like.

[1078] In some ways, Instagram has kind of, in a, one of the positive things about it is it's taken the allure out.

[1079] Like, you know, celebrities are posting.

[1080] They're giving away their personal lives.

[1081] It's in their control, you know.

[1082] Exactly.

[1083] Same with the kid stuff, you know, and the whole thing that I stand with you guys as well.

[1084] It's like I don't show my kid, you know, you have that choice.

[1085] Obviously, if a poproxy gets it, it's different.

[1086] But you can control those things with social media, which is really nice.

[1087] Yeah, well, what it really did is it destroyed the marketplace.

[1088] So, like, why am I going to buy a photo of Brittany for a million dollars when I can watch her currently dancing in her house?

[1089] Exactly.

[1090] Just dance is twirling in her foyer.

[1091] She's giving us something much better than this paparazzi's ever going to get.

[1092] Right.

[1093] So there's just no value to it.

[1094] And then, yeah, you were a part and we thank you for that.

[1095] You were an early member of our No Kid Policy Coalition.

[1096] For sure.

[1097] And we kind of ruined the marketplace for that.

[1098] Like we got enough places to commit to not buying them that they then became valueless.

[1099] And it kind of worked.

[1100] I did.

[1101] Knock on what, I would hate for that to come back.

[1102] But no, I know.

[1103] But I always love what you guys saying.

[1104] What Kristen says, it's like they didn't choose.

[1105] Like they don't have the choice.

[1106] And so I just think that's a great mentality.

[1107] They didn't choose to be put in this position.

[1108] right people would say that when we started it out there was a lot of the um oh get over yourself you're so lucky and rich which is all true you chose this i'm like i did and it's annoying but i can accept it but they did not and no one else is paying for the sins of their parents in america that's not our system no you can't jail the son of some crook that's not what we do right right no that's totally true okay now i just want to stop on one movie which is jumper which i absolutely fucking loved it was so good Did you go all over the world or was it all of CGI?

[1109] No, we did.

[1110] We did travel a lot.

[1111] I didn't go as many places as Hayden and Jamie Bell did.

[1112] Like they did Tokyo.

[1113] I don't think I shot there.

[1114] But we went to Italy.

[1115] We shot in the Coliseum, which was one of the coolest experiences of my life.

[1116] Like the sun was coming up and we're inside the Coliseum and you're just like, holy fuck.

[1117] Like, this is insane.

[1118] Yeah.

[1119] And working with a director like Doug Lyman, who is so creative and just, we were on the flight to.

[1120] Rome.

[1121] I was fast asleep.

[1122] Not even in my wardrobe as a character.

[1123] Like, no makeup, whatever.

[1124] I'm passed out, probably drooling the whole thing.

[1125] I wake up to his like red camera in my face.

[1126] Oh, wow.

[1127] Grabbing some footage.

[1128] Yeah, grabbing some footage and like, okay, you're just on the plane.

[1129] And I just go with it, you know, and I forget.

[1130] Maybe part of it was used or not, but that's just how it was working with him.

[1131] That's fun.

[1132] Yeah, it was totally fun.

[1133] And it was a great experience.

[1134] We did our press junket at the pyramids in Egypt.

[1135] It was just this crazy.

[1136] Wow.

[1137] Super cool experience that, you know, I'll never forget.

[1138] Okay, now one follow -up question I have to that is I once dated to Gail and she had been married and her husband, their first date was he took her on the Concord to Paris.

[1139] And she was saying how they fell in love and I was like, certainly you really did fall in love.

[1140] But also, pretty fucking easy to fall in.

[1141] Yeah.

[1142] Also, are you on The Bachelor?

[1143] Because that is.

[1144] Bree and I fell in love at the Den, which was the back bar at Denny's here on sunset.

[1145] Like, that's where we fell in love.

[1146] That's why it's real.

[1147] Yes.

[1148] She drank them out of tequila and I drank them out of Jack Daniels.

[1149] It was time to go.

[1150] If that's romantic and you guys fall in love in that scenario, I kind of trust it.

[1151] But do you think it's easier to fall in love with someone having had that crazy experience?

[1152] There's certainly a truth to it, like, like the Bachelor with these like extravagant dates where you're like, of course you're going to fucking fall in love like on a hot air balloon over the fucking Grand Canyon.

[1153] Like, you know, you're not going to forget that.

[1154] Yeah.

[1155] I think the Rome factor, I'm sure, was an element to it.

[1156] Because it's Italy, that's a moray, right?

[1157] Italy and pizza and food and whatever.

[1158] But it was obviously more than that for Hayden and I, but there's definite truth to environment.

[1159] Yeah.

[1160] Forget the romantic part, which is definitely part of it.

[1161] But I would even go further and say it's more like the friendships that are forged in war or on the police force.

[1162] It's simply incredibly heightened.

[1163] And you're sharing this very unique.

[1164] heightened experience with another human being.

[1165] And just you two now have this shared experience which is really unique.

[1166] And yeah, to be in the Coliseum is like, who are you going to tell that to, that will understand, that had the feelings inside of that privilege.

[1167] Yeah, no, you're totally right.

[1168] Or even going through a trauma together.

[1169] Whatever it is that brings you closer because it's heightened like that.

[1170] It's this bond that can't be replicated.

[1171] Stay tuned for more armchair expert.

[1172] If you dare.

[1173] I'm gathering that you watch The Bachelor, so I'm just going to turn you and Monica loose for like 30 seconds.

[1174] Do you watch The Bachelor?

[1175] Yes, I wanted to interrupt and talk about it.

[1176] Okay, yeah, because I could talk all day.

[1177] Are you watching it right now?

[1178] I am, but I'm at hometowns, but I kind of saw something online, so I already know one of the people that doesn't move on.

[1179] Yeah, I'm not going to spoil.

[1180] I'm super bummed about it, though, because the one that I thought was, like, the most genuine, but it's not her.

[1181] he's not going to pick her.

[1182] I think they've already broken up.

[1183] Oh, who he picked?

[1184] Yes.

[1185] I think I know who it is.

[1186] I think he picks Rachel.

[1187] That's what I think, too, because he seems the most, like, you know.

[1188] Attracted to her.

[1189] Yes.

[1190] But then I think they've all broken up.

[1191] And I wonder in this, you know, you know, the whole thing with her and the antebellum and all that stuff.

[1192] Yes.

[1193] I feel like that comes up in next episode.

[1194] Like, I think he finds out during, I think this all is going to implode next week.

[1195] I'm so excited.

[1196] Oh, okay, that's exciting.

[1197] Although I will say Matt James is like the most genuine bachelor I've seen.

[1198] Oh my gosh.

[1199] Wait till you see Monday's episode.

[1200] There's like a thing with his dad that's like truly just Marco pulled me because we normally watched together.

[1201] Yeah.

[1202] Then I came home and he pulled me and he was just like sobbing.

[1203] He was just sobbing on the pillow and he was like, the dad, the short dad.

[1204] The short.

[1205] The short.

[1206] The short dad.

[1207] Oh, I'm going to cry.

[1208] I cried when Michelle saw her students and the student read the letter that she wrote her.

[1209] I was like, why are you not down on one knee?

[1210] I know.

[1211] It's because he's blinded by the face.

[1212] Yep, I know.

[1213] Maybe Michelle will be the next bachelorette.

[1214] We should watch together next season.

[1215] We absolutely should.

[1216] Guys, I could have gotten completely naked during all that.

[1217] And neither of you would have noticed.

[1218] And it crossed my mind.

[1219] That was so thrilling to watch you guys light up.

[1220] Rachel, you are lit up like a Christmas tree, like you're nine months pregnant or something.

[1221] Yeah, no, I can talk about it all day.

[1222] Two things I want to bring up just to add a little to this bachelor thing.

[1223] Monica, tell Rachel about our trip to Turks and Kekos.

[1224] Because Monica at this point has meant every single A -List human being alive through being friends with Kristen and I has yet to be excited once.

[1225] Go, Monica.

[1226] We were in Turks and Kekos and have you watched all the seasons or are you your spotty?

[1227] I'm pretty well first.

[1228] Okay.

[1229] So my favorite season is Molly and Jason and Melissa.

[1230] That was pre my time, but I know who they are.

[1231] Oh my God.

[1232] I was my first season in and I loved it so much.

[1233] I'll never forget it.

[1234] I'll never forget it.

[1235] I downloaded episodes of it after on iTunes so I could rewatch whenever I wanted to.

[1236] And I rewatched like many times.

[1237] I loved it so much.

[1238] And Molly and Jason were at the same resort we were at in Turks and Cicos.

[1239] And I found it on Instagram.

[1240] I was like, oh my God, I think they're here.

[1241] Oh my God.

[1242] Well, because she stalks them on Instagram.

[1243] Well, yeah.

[1244] Well, I fall.

[1245] Follow them.

[1246] Follow them.

[1247] Of course.

[1248] And then there was some event that Dax and Kristen had to go to.

[1249] And it was like, oh, they're going to be there.

[1250] I was just sweating.

[1251] Like so excited.

[1252] But I was like, I can't eat them.

[1253] Like, that's, I can't handle it.

[1254] I totally get it.

[1255] No, the star struck factor.

[1256] The Bachelor people, I think for me, other than Larry David, who I had to run the opposite direction.

[1257] Other than him, it's the Bachelor world for me. She was on curb this year.

[1258] Here.

[1259] A very quick scene.

[1260] Isn't that amazing?

[1261] I was so jealous.

[1262] I'm so jealous.

[1263] It was very exciting.

[1264] Shut the fuck up.

[1265] We haven't been on curb and you have.

[1266] So shut up.

[1267] That's true.

[1268] It was very exciting.

[1269] It was very, very exciting.

[1270] If I had to use one word to describe Monica's experience at Turks and Kekos, I would use the word preoccupied.

[1271] Okay.

[1272] Now I want to go to one more thing that Monica just informed me about last week and my head was spinning about this detail.

[1273] Of course it makes sense, but I'd never considered it, which is there is a weekend where he just fucks all of them.

[1274] Like he, but one after another, he like fucks all three of them.

[1275] And that's just wild that that's on TV.

[1276] And I just can't, it must be so weird to be like girl number three.

[1277] And you're like, oh, you know, I had talked to Nick Vile about it.

[1278] And he told me, it doesn't always go down.

[1279] Okay.

[1280] And in his season, I feel like he maybe only slept with the girl that he proposes to.

[1281] Really?

[1282] I think so.

[1283] But a lot of the times I think they do.

[1284] But you're right, Dax, because I've thought about that.

[1285] Like, if you know she has the first date, they have to keep it a secret because no girl's going to be like, all right, I'm going to be sloppy seconds, sloppy fourths.

[1286] You know, like that's a...

[1287] I wouldn't do it.

[1288] So they have to...

[1289] I'm pretty sure they keep them sequestered.

[1290] No, they don't.

[1291] They don't?

[1292] Because, like, no, so Monday was fantasy sweet.

[1293] Of course, I arrive, I land.

[1294] And I'm like, so I got to watch the Batsar at 8.

[1295] And they're like, okay, like, we'll watch.

[1296] And we're sitting.

[1297] My dad's like, so what is happening?

[1298] What is this?

[1299] And I was like, oh.

[1300] Her dad is from India, Rachel.

[1301] You need to know that.

[1302] I think that's relevant here.

[1303] He didn't know when I said, hey, look for me. I'm in tie -dye.

[1304] I'm in a tie -dye outfit.

[1305] He's like, I don't know what that is.

[1306] But anyway, so we're sitting down and he's like, okay, what is this?

[1307] And I was like, well, there's three girls left.

[1308] And he has fantasy sweet dates with him.

[1309] So he's going to have sex with all of them.

[1310] He's like, and then he just sat there for a second.

[1311] He was like, I'm leaving.

[1312] He went to the other room.

[1313] Okay.

[1314] So I think this is misogynistic.

[1315] But I got to say, it feels even weirder when it's flipped.

[1316] So if you're the guy, if I'm the guy and I'm going third to the girl, the bachelorette, I'm getting into that sweet.

[1317] And I'm like, her vagina probably hurts.

[1318] Like, she's worn out.

[1319] Like, I'm going to be getting in there.

[1320] Right.

[1321] Oh, they do.

[1322] I don't know if it's a full week, but I think it's like a day.

[1323] You got to take a rest day.

[1324] Well, that's what I'm saying.

[1325] If I'm third, I'm like, this thing's been getting hammered for the last three days straight.

[1326] And now I got to get in here and try to give some pleasure and make my mark and convince her I'm great at this.

[1327] I mean, it feels a little different for the guy.

[1328] Like, no one goes in and he's like, this guy's penis is probably sore.

[1329] That just is not a thought you have.

[1330] That's not an issue.

[1331] Well, Hannah Brown, wasn't it like four in one night?

[1332] Yeah.

[1333] Doesn't she talk about that?

[1334] Wait, one of the gals plowed four dudes in one night?

[1335] No, one dude.

[1336] Four times.

[1337] Oh, wow.

[1338] I got to get on this show.

[1339] But he didn't win.

[1340] He did not win.

[1341] I mean, he won that night, but he did not win the show.

[1342] He won the night, but not the war.

[1343] Yes.

[1344] They are starting a senior version, which I feel like.

[1345] I know, which I feel like I would fall into because these people are 21 years old.

[1346] So I'm like, is the senior version like 39?

[1347] Because then maybe I could go on it.

[1348] The geriatric.

[1349] Oh, man. So are you single right now?

[1350] I am.

[1351] Have you ever played with the idea of joining that Raya thing?

[1352] No. I mean, you know, a lot of people are on it.

[1353] But people don't know about Raya.

[1354] It's like a dating site platform.

[1355] Yeah.

[1356] For people who have some public notoriety, I guess, varying degrees.

[1357] I think my boyfriend was on it.

[1358] Oh yeah, Ben Affleck fucking was on Raya.

[1359] I was on it for Monica and Jess.

[1360] I had to join it as a chairman.

[1361] I hated it.

[1362] I don't know.

[1363] If I were a gal, I most certainly would want to fuck a professional athlete.

[1364] Like, if I was just going to have a one -night stand, I would go on there shopping for a professional athlete.

[1365] That seems like it would be really fun.

[1366] A strictly quarterback.

[1367] Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[1368] They might have CTE and then kill you.

[1369] Well, yeah, that's a problem.

[1370] Something to look out for.

[1371] Only have you turned it into, by the way, one of the bachelors was a football player.

[1372] Do you think he had CTE?

[1373] I watched the one where Aaron Rogers' brother was on.

[1374] Oh, yeah, he was on.

[1375] And they're still together, by the way, and engaged.

[1376] Are they?

[1377] Yes.

[1378] Oh, my God.

[1379] Just like Sun Yi and Woody.

[1380] Oh, God.

[1381] Exactly.

[1382] Well, Rachel, I adore you.

[1383] And I hope everyone listens to welcome to the OC bitches.

[1384] It sounds very, very fun.

[1385] And I think it'll be huge because there's so many OC lovers and what could be more fun.

[1386] If there was a podcast about 90210, you can bet your ass I would be involved with every episode.

[1387] Well, there probably is, Dax.

[1388] Oh, geez.

[1389] Geez.

[1390] All right.

[1391] Well, Rachel's so fun to see you.

[1392] Yeah, you too.

[1393] Thanks for having me. Yeah.

[1394] Good luck with everything.

[1395] Thank you.

[1396] All right.

[1397] Bye -bye.

[1398] Bye.

[1399] And now my favorite part of the show, the fact check with my soulmate Monica Padman.

[1400] Stroke it slowly.

[1401] What a gross song.

[1402] Do you think it's gross?

[1403] Yeah.

[1404] It's really gross.

[1405] It's not what I want to talk about.

[1406] Okay.

[1407] What do you want to talk about?

[1408] Rachel Bilsen.

[1409] Oh, R .B. Roast beef Arbys Do you know what Arby's means I was thinking of RBG RBG The original gangster The original Ginsberg But you're thinking of Arby's beef and cheddar horsy sauce Oh man Yeah first of all I don't think Everyone realizes Arbys Is fanatically spelled RB I know I like that Roast Beast That's what it stands for Roast Beast And we were talking about the sauces today Okay.

[1410] And Monica in general isn't a horse radish person, and I really am.

[1411] Yeah.

[1412] Then when you got curious about, how does horse even get involved in that?

[1413] I'm going to guess.

[1414] Okay.

[1415] It's a radish that horses love to find and dig up and root around in an e. Okay.

[1416] And they prefer them.

[1417] They prefer those spicy ones.

[1418] The word horse radish is attested in English from the 1590s, formerly used in a figurative sense to mean strong or coarse and the word radish.

[1419] Okay, so a strong tasting radish.

[1420] Okay, so, yeah, horse used to be the high watermark for strength, I guess.

[1421] Right.

[1422] Now we have steam engines.

[1423] Oh, in German, it's called Mierre.

[1424] And in Japan, it's called wasabi.

[1425] So we have a big thing to talk about.

[1426] Uh -oh.

[1427] Kirsten Dunst.

[1428] Oh, right.

[1429] How old was she?

[1430] We can figure this out, okay?

[1431] All right.

[1432] Fast math time.

[1433] So, yeah, this is FMT.

[1434] She is 38 now.

[1435] Yeah.

[1436] Got it.

[1437] So 3821, that's 17.

[1438] So she was born in 83.

[1439] Okay?

[1440] Okay.

[1441] All right.

[1442] Well, here was a movie film.

[1443] Actually, ooh.

[1444] She was born in 82.

[1445] Okay, yeah, that could go either way.

[1446] April.

[1447] Right.

[1448] April 82.

[1449] Yeah, and next week.

[1450] Next week, correct.

[1451] Interview with the vampire was in 94.

[1452] So that would make her eight.

[1453] No, 94.

[1454] That make her 10.

[1455] It says she was 11.

[1456] None of these add up.

[1457] She said, the actress gave him a peck on the lips for the 94 interview with the vampire and one of her first big screen roles ever.

[1458] Now that it's been 25 years since the gothic romantic horror film was released, she still stands by her original reaction on shooting the same.

[1459] scene.

[1460] In her words, quote, yeah, it was gross.

[1461] I stand by that.

[1462] It would have been so much creepier if an 11 -year -old was like, it was great.

[1463] You'd be like there's something wrong with this child.

[1464] I think it'd be like when you have to kiss your uncle on the lips, leaving the family reunion.

[1465] I hated it so much because Brad was like my older brother on set, and it's kind of like kissing your brother.

[1466] It's weird because he's an older guy and I had to kiss him on the lips, so it was gross.

[1467] All right.

[1468] Well, it doesn't sound like she loved it.

[1469] Yeah.

[1470] Hmm.

[1471] It doesn't.

[1472] It's gross, yeah.

[1473] Is it illegal?

[1474] It's obviously not illegal or people would be in jail.

[1475] But it doesn't mean it's not gross or inappropriate.

[1476] I don't know if it's inappropriate.

[1477] I don't know.

[1478] I don't think that scene would happen today.

[1479] I don't either.

[1480] They maybe do it digitally.

[1481] What do you do if you want to write a story about a 300 -year -old vampire that became a vampire when she was 11?

[1482] Yeah.

[1483] I don't know what you do.

[1484] I guess you can't tell that story.

[1485] Or you don't have.

[1486] kissing in it.

[1487] Maybe it's just intimated.

[1488] Maybe the older males reflecting on their kissing and lovemaking to another adult.

[1489] Yeah, or yes, CG.

[1490] We have the technology.

[1491] Oh, my God.

[1492] Think how about this is a great moral thought experiment.

[1493] What if they could just make her CG?

[1494] And then they had a full -on sex scene.

[1495] No, no, no, no, no, no. But it's a robot.

[1496] It's really easy to say no to that.

[1497] It's just animation.

[1498] Nope.

[1499] Okay.

[1500] Have you watched Bling Ring?

[1501] No. Me either.

[1502] But I wanted to after we talked about this.

[1503] Me too.

[1504] We should watch it.

[1505] Okay.

[1506] Put it on.

[1507] Okay, it's on.

[1508] Yeah, I mean, I remember hearing that and being pretty fascinated by it.

[1509] Yeah.

[1510] There's no way Rachel could have a positive view of that movie.

[1511] You know, it'd be impossible.

[1512] But again, I just thought of myself being in Michigan at 17.

[1513] I would like that.

[1514] Yeah, totally.

[1515] Okay.

[1516] So you said that she went to Notre Dame.

[1517] And I just wanted to be clear, that's a high school.

[1518] That's a high school.

[1519] Yeah, not the college.

[1520] A whole bunch of actors didn't go to Notre Dame, the college.

[1521] No. Although some certainly have.

[1522] Yeah, sure.

[1523] Not a lot.

[1524] I'm sure one or two have.

[1525] Rudy.

[1526] Remember Rudy?

[1527] Yeah, Rudy, the movie took place at Notre Dame.

[1528] But not Sean Aston.

[1529] Or John Favro.

[1530] He was in that.

[1531] Oh.

[1532] Okay, how old was Britney Spears in the Ed McMahon?

[1533] Clare search clip?

[1534] 10, 10.

[1535] She was on it in 92.

[1536] Okay.

[1537] When was she born?

[1538] He was like 70, 82.

[1539] He was what, 70?

[1540] In 92, let's find.

[1541] God, this is a math, heavy episode.

[1542] This is a math rabbit hole.

[1543] Okay, so 92 and he...

[1544] He was born in 40, something, my bet.

[1545] He was, oh my God, he was born in 1923.

[1546] Okay.

[1547] So seven, then 30, that's, what, what year?

[1548] It was 92, and he was born in 1923.

[1549] Okay, so we'll say 22 to 92 would be 70.

[1550] So he's 69.

[1551] Yikes.

[1552] Yikes.

[1553] Yuck.

[1554] And he looks 74.

[1555] Yeah.

[1556] A different time.

[1557] He's from Detroit.

[1558] Oh.

[1559] Well, he didn't need to say that.

[1560] Well, he was beloved.

[1561] He was, he was.

[1562] But he did ask a girl if he could be his boy.

[1563] Yeah.

[1564] Yeah, but he didn't, yeah.

[1565] That was a common thing to say to kids.

[1566] It was.

[1567] You'd go, are you married?

[1568] And they'd laugh because they're too young to be married.

[1569] Sure.

[1570] Then you'd say like, you want to get married?

[1571] Then they'd laugh or get creeped out, I guess.

[1572] And they'd be like, no, for real.

[1573] And they'd be like, I love you.

[1574] Let's get married.

[1575] It would get progressively.

[1576] Yeah.

[1577] Do you think his name was Edwin or Edward?

[1578] Edward.

[1579] That feels like a trick question.

[1580] Like, why would you even ask me that if his name wasn't Edwin?

[1581] It is Edward Oh, okay That was a double trick question Yeah, it was a trick within a trick Yeah Okay, you said you loved I Robot, but it's Mr. Robot There we go When was Instagram launched Because you said that the bling ring Probably came out before Instagram 2010 Yeah, it was way before that And bling ring came out Well, forget the movie The actual crimes happened in 2006.

[1582] Oh, right.

[1583] The movie came out in 2013, actually.

[1584] But, okay, yeah, the crimes.

[1585] Yeah.

[1586] That's when the dump was taken in her house.

[1587] I can't believe that.

[1588] It's pretty gangster.

[1589] I'm sorry that happened.

[1590] No, it's not.

[1591] Someone took a poop in your house and you did not like it.

[1592] Who did?

[1593] A homeless gentleman.

[1594] Oh, okay, let's be clear.

[1595] A homeless gentleman, presumably homeless.

[1596] Someone was living in the house when it was.

[1597] under construction and they pooped in a bathtub and left the poop in the tub.

[1598] I think this person pooped in the toilet and flushed it.

[1599] How would they have, oh yeah, because she told.

[1600] Yeah, because she didn't come home and discover a turd in her bathtub.

[1601] Yeah.

[1602] It was revealed in her testimony or something.

[1603] But I don't, I'm trying to think, would I rather have someone poop in my tub right now across the street that is going to be removed anyway?

[1604] Yeah.

[1605] Or someone break into my house and poop in my, active toilet i think i would pick my deserted house correct yeah i don't want to have to see the poop well i saw it and i had to dispose of it yeah that part i don't like yeah well i want to tell that story really quick because i think it was one of my my best moments of clairvoyancy so here's a brag showing ryan hanson the house he had never been that's right and we didn't live in it it was just you know we just got it and we're in one of the bedrooms and i noticed like man there's a lot there's more stuff in here than I remember there's like the big trash can and there seems to be some like work clothes and like maybe a rake and some shit yeah and some um acetane bottles which is what people huff acetone or acetone maybe acetone yeah acetone asshole tone and I said to Ryan oh my god there's I think there's more stuff in here like someone's been in here and he goes you think someone's sleeping in here and I immediately said if there's a poop in the bathtub someone's sleeping here.

[1606] We walked directly into the bathroom and by God, there was a fucking poop in the bathtub.

[1607] I couldn't believe you, you did that until you said the reason you knew is because you've been in that position.

[1608] No, the reason I knew is that if you're living in a house and you have no respect for it, why would you?

[1609] So you're going to either walk out of the house into the cold at night because it was in the winter.

[1610] There's a toilet, isn't there?

[1611] No, none of the toilets worked.

[1612] They were actually ripped out.

[1613] Oh, okay.

[1614] So your options are.

[1615] are go outside at night where it's cold and lean against something and evacuate outdoors.

[1616] Sure.

[1617] Or sit comfortably on the edge of a bathtub and evacuate.

[1618] Yeah.

[1619] You're definitely picking that.

[1620] Yeah.

[1621] So maybe what you said is that's what I would do.

[1622] That's right.

[1623] Yeah.

[1624] That's what I come to every conclusion.

[1625] Is I think like what would I do if I was living in this house?

[1626] I bet I would have poop.

[1627] Yes, I would poop in the bathtub inevitably.

[1628] Like maybe even the first few nights He did go outside And one night he was like He's huffing all that acetone I'm gonna fucking going outside My trip I'm gonna go get comfy I wish we knew I would like it more if it was a girl Yeah because you had to clean it And you probably would have liked to clean a girls I know so stupid It is so stupid but it's true But I think all humans would rather Clean a girl dump even girls Yeah Yeah The poop is poop I know The human body turns food Into the exact same thing Whether it's coming out But boys are just gross or some menorah majora.

[1629] Oh, boy.

[1630] I think it's just because boys are gross.

[1631] Like they eat all kinds of crazy shit and their asses smell.

[1632] And then they don't wipe well.

[1633] Well, I don't know if we can say that, but.

[1634] I will.

[1635] Though they have more hair in there.

[1636] Men have hairy butts.

[1637] Some women have hairy butts.

[1638] Yes, but proportionally men have much hairier butts.

[1639] I don't know.

[1640] I don't know.

[1641] I don't know about that.

[1642] Well.

[1643] I really don't.

[1644] I have seen a tremendous amount of.

[1645] female butts and male butts.

[1646] And male butts are generally covered in hair.

[1647] The butt cheeks covered, the cheek, the inside, the taint, the perineum, the anus.

[1648] Enough enough.

[1649] Okay.

[1650] It's just hair galore back there, generally for boys.

[1651] It's not hair galore for women.

[1652] Well, because girls have to shave and wax and all this stuff.

[1653] But they don't shave their butt cheeks.

[1654] Women don't get.

[1655] Some people might.

[1656] I know.

[1657] And I'm not trying to shame those people.

[1658] I'm just saying in general, we both know that women don't get super hairy butt cheeks.

[1659] I guess mostly.

[1660] But some people do.

[1661] And that's okay.

[1662] Yeah, it's great.

[1663] My house apparently has a bunch of coyotes living there.

[1664] In it?

[1665] Outside.

[1666] And then they go inside for a break.

[1667] They are living in the backyard.

[1668] How did you find that out?

[1669] Because Audra went with the designer and the neighbor came out and was like, hey, be careful because some coyotes have found a home there.

[1670] There's a pack of coyotes in your back here.

[1671] Is that scary?

[1672] No, well, no, but.

[1673] Do they hurt people?

[1674] No, they don't ever.

[1675] Okay.

[1676] Yeah.

[1677] I hope they don't love it and like come live with me. They'll keep the skunks away.

[1678] And you don't have a dog.

[1679] I know I was going to say, what if I turn them into my pets?

[1680] Your dogs, yeah.

[1681] I was one of those people who like into exotic animals.

[1682] Well, no, I think you'd be known around town as the Los Felis Coyote woman, which is a cool moniker.

[1683] Oh.

[1684] All right.

[1685] I'll consider it.

[1686] Mm -hmm.

[1687] Don't rule it out.

[1688] Don't have a knee -jerk reaction, you know, out of fear.

[1689] Okay, thank you.

[1690] They could totally protect your house.

[1691] Like, if they really came to love you and you fed them a lot and groom them and snuggled them, if there was an intruder, they would go berserk.

[1692] That's what people think when they have tigers.

[1693] Do they?

[1694] Yeah.

[1695] They think it's for home protection.

[1696] I think they think they think.

[1697] Well, they think they can tame it in the way that if I thought I could tame a coyote.

[1698] I know what I think, and I don't mind offending tiger owners, okay?

[1699] they had someone in their life that was mercurial and unpredictable, and they're trying to repair the damage of that relationship with this exotic, crazy, threatening, violent animal.

[1700] They think if they can tame that thing, they'll have tamed the person in their childhood that was crazy and unpredictable.

[1701] Yeah, I think that might be part of it.

[1702] I think it's kind of the obsession some women have with certain men where it's like, I can change them.

[1703] I'm the person that can change them.

[1704] They'll change for me. And I think women who have that generally had dads that they had wished had changed for them and didn't.

[1705] So I'm sure that's some people for sure.

[1706] Speaking of falling in love, so you said you fell in love with Bree at the Den.

[1707] Oh, the Denny's Den.

[1708] The Denny's had a bar in back.

[1709] This one right here at Sunset.

[1710] And the bar was called The Den.

[1711] But there is also a bar on sunset called The Den.

[1712] It's not that?

[1713] No, this was in the back of Denny's.

[1714] And you could smoke cigarettes in there.

[1715] And we were both heavy smokers when we were 20 and 19.

[1716] And you guys met there?

[1717] No, our first date was there.

[1718] We met and she had a boyfriend and I had a girlfriend.

[1719] We liked each other, but we didn't do anything.

[1720] And then it was Thanksgiving.

[1721] And we're both in L .A. with nobody.

[1722] And it's Thanksgiving.

[1723] And so my mom said, why don't you take yourself out with my credit card and have a good meal?

[1724] So I called Bree and said, I have a credit card.

[1725] Put on your very nicest clothes.

[1726] I'm going to take you somewhere special.

[1727] I wore a suit.

[1728] I picked her up and she was in virtually a prom dress.

[1729] And we went to Denny's Den on Thanksgiving Day and both killed a fifth of our favorite liquor and smoked a trillion cigarettes and ate turkey dinner.

[1730] They have turkey there?

[1731] Yeah, they got like a, well, I don't want to say terrible.

[1732] You know, they have like turkey and gravy and mashed potatoes and stuff.

[1733] And it was, it's probably the funnest date I've ever had my life.

[1734] I mean, at Denny's on Thanksgiving, getting pot.

[1735] In the middle of the afternoon, eating that food.

[1736] Pie -eyed.

[1737] That's a ding, ding, ding.

[1738] Or is that, what is pie -eyed mean?

[1739] Drunk.

[1740] Okay, yeah, but pie for Thanksgiving.

[1741] Oh, oh, okay.

[1742] I think I told you, and we left, we had drank them out of our favorite.

[1743] For me, it was Jack Daniels.

[1744] I had drank, there was no more Jack Daniels.

[1745] And she was drinking some kind of tequila, and they had run out of that.

[1746] Oh, boy.

[1747] Did your mom, so she didn't want to spend Thanksgiving with you?

[1748] She had come here to spend Thanksgiving with you.

[1749] No. I had a credit card for emergency.

[1750] That was her credit card.

[1751] Oh, I see.

[1752] And she said, take the emergency credit card and go have a really nice Thanksgiving dinner.

[1753] I thought she was here for Thanksgiving and said, here, take my credit card and go.

[1754] What?

[1755] That would be bizarre as hell.

[1756] Okay.

[1757] I see.

[1758] Oh.

[1759] Yeah, because I always went home for Christmas, so I think maybe I wasn't going to go home for Thanksgiving right before.

[1760] That's what I do.

[1761] Yeah.

[1762] But I didn't have anything to do.

[1763] That's really funny and cute.

[1764] Okay.

[1765] Well, I thought you were talking about the den, which is a bar on sunset, that Rachel and I loved because we heard that Jason Siegel would go there.

[1766] So we would try to go to scout out for Jason Siegel.

[1767] I actually, I forgot about that.

[1768] I never had a friend that was so star -obsessed as you.

[1769] It's so cute.

[1770] Yeah.

[1771] I'm sure you have.

[1772] They're just probably not as honest as I am.

[1773] That's possible.

[1774] What other places did you go to because you heard people went there?

[1775] I mean, when I first visited with Anthony, before we lived here, we went to the Ivy.

[1776] Oh, wow.

[1777] An eight?

[1778] Uh -huh.

[1779] That's expensive.

[1780] Yeah, I doubt we ate very much.

[1781] We probably, like, split us out.

[1782] I remember he had a really bad headache that day, and I was like, oh, don't spoil this for me, Anthony.

[1783] We're going to be cool.

[1784] Yeah.

[1785] Although you didn't see anyone, right?

[1786] No. I have never eaten at the ivy in my life after that.

[1787] Where else would I go to C &BC?

[1788] To CMBC.

[1789] We go to CMBC headquarters.

[1790] Like, did you ever figure out where Ben Affleck or Matthew Damon hung out?

[1791] I think I tried to find out where they lived, but I couldn't.

[1792] I think they live in.

[1793] Palisades?

[1794] Yes, I think I did learn it.

[1795] It was in the palisades, and I'm not close to that location.

[1796] That's not our side of town.

[1797] No. I'll keep thinking on it if there are more locations.

[1798] Yeah, just maybe that's something you update us on throughout the years.

[1799] Okay.

[1800] I have to imagine there's more.

[1801] There has to be.

[1802] Yeah.

[1803] Because I'm trying to think of even I had.

[1804] I just wouldn't, I wouldn't go anywhere and spend money.

[1805] And that's probably the only thing that kept me from doing that.

[1806] Well, we were also, you know, Rachel and I were, we.

[1807] We wanted boyfriends and we love Jason Siegel.

[1808] Maybe he could be our boyfriend.

[1809] Sure, sure.

[1810] And if he couldn't be our boyfriend, maybe there was someone at the den who could be our boyfriend.

[1811] Right.

[1812] No one was our boyfriend there.

[1813] And you never saw Jason Segal there, I can't imagine.

[1814] I did not.

[1815] Okay.

[1816] Oh, boy.

[1817] All right.

[1818] Well, that's all.

[1819] I think I almost went to a bar.

[1820] Oh, this is a good story.

[1821] Okay.

[1822] I may have already told it on here.

[1823] Let's hear it.

[1824] Scotty Johnson, one of my best friends.

[1825] He was my best friend in L .A. I love him so much.

[1826] You moved back to Michigan.

[1827] He looks a lot like Kiefer Sutherland.

[1828] He does.

[1829] And he used to even more.

[1830] Uh -huh.

[1831] And so he was at a bar in Silver Lake.

[1832] And he's in the bathroom washing his hands.

[1833] And all of a sudden, Kiefer Sutherland straddles up next to him to wash his hands.

[1834] And Scotty says, listen to how clutch this is.

[1835] Scotty just looks at me, he goes, you get sick of here and you look like Scott Johnson.

[1836] Oh.

[1837] And Kiefer loved it.

[1838] And they partied all night and he went back to Kiefer's house.

[1839] Wow.

[1840] Scotty.

[1841] Of course he did.

[1842] Scotty is the best personality.

[1843] So I think it crossed my mind that I wanted to go to that bar and like mix it up with Kiefer Sutherland.

[1844] But I never did.

[1845] Yeah.

[1846] Oh, that's so funny.

[1847] What a great opener, right?

[1848] Great.

[1849] Oh, clutch.

[1850] Clutch.

[1851] I do remember one time when Cali was, I had just moved, Cali came to visit, and we went to, we went to Chateau Marmont.

[1852] Oh, yeah.

[1853] Went to the bar.

[1854] But I just remember it was so goddamn stressful trying to figure out parking.

[1855] Oh, I don't know how you got in.

[1856] No, we had to valet, which was like probably $40, and I had no money.

[1857] It takes 25 minutes to.

[1858] I can feel.

[1859] feel the stress.

[1860] Like, I remember being like, this is a nightmare.

[1861] What am I doing here?

[1862] What am I doing in this city?

[1863] Yes.

[1864] I do not belong here.

[1865] Well, that place in particular is very intimidating.

[1866] John Belushi died there.

[1867] Again, I've only, I've never been to that bar again, and I've only been to the Chateau one other time with our friends for dinner for my birthday.

[1868] Yeah.

[1869] That was an accident.

[1870] It's fun, wasn't it?

[1871] We were trying to go to an escape room, and it was scheduled for the wrong day.

[1872] So we decided to just go next door to have dinner, just happened to be right there.

[1873] Why?

[1874] I said, let's go over to Chateau and have the spaghetti.

[1875] I saved that birthday party.

[1876] Thank you.

[1877] You're welcome.

[1878] And then we saw Wardogs.

[1879] Because Kristen hates that place.

[1880] Oh, I thought you hated it for some reason in my head.

[1881] Oh, you do?

[1882] I love it.

[1883] But it's so, it is so CNBC.

[1884] Like, there is something about it.

[1885] that I get the gross, like I get why she doesn't like it, I guess.

[1886] Yeah.

[1887] And I would think you wouldn't like it.

[1888] No. No, because here's what I figured out.

[1889] So this place opened in L .A., the Soho House.

[1890] Yes.

[1891] And I heard for maybe seven or eight other people that they don't like it because everyone there thinks they're so cool.

[1892] And to be honest, when you say that, what you're saying is, I don't feel cool there.

[1893] That's really what you're saying.

[1894] You're there and you start feeling insecure that you're not as cool as everyone.

[1895] So you go, everyone thinks there's such hot shit there.

[1896] Well, you don't know what anyone thinks there.

[1897] You don't know what people think.

[1898] You just feel insecure there because seemingly these people have, I don't know, they have more style or more status or whatever, but the people aren't doing anything.

[1899] They're just, they're existing and you feel insecure and less than.

[1900] And so I'm very aware of that now.

[1901] When I go to places and I'm starting to ramp up and say that kind of thing, like, everyone here thinks they're too good for blank.

[1902] You don't know what anyone thinks.

[1903] But this is not.

[1904] I feel self -conscious that I'm not cool enough to be there or not hip enough or not famous enough or not.

[1905] That's all, that's my stuff.

[1906] Yeah.

[1907] This is not on brand, just so you know.

[1908] Your whole thing is class warfare, is people being above other people thinking they're better.

[1909] than other people.

[1910] That is what's happening.

[1911] Those people don't think that.

[1912] But no one thinks that.

[1913] But whenever you're projecting it.

[1914] Rich people who go to country clubs and talk about how rich they are are actively trying to establish that their worth is their wealth.

[1915] But that's not what people at Soho House are doing.

[1916] That's not fair to say that the people at the country club are doing it, but the people at Soho House aren't because you happen to like the Soho House and did not like the country club because you grew up there.

[1917] They're doing, in my opinion, the exact same thing.

[1918] You can like it or not like it, but...

[1919] No, I just think my thing is more specific than you know it is.

[1920] Like, what gets you into Chateaumarmat, like, Salman Rushdie was there one night.

[1921] Like, the first time I ever went there, like, Salman Rushdie was in one corner.

[1922] I'm like, oh my God, Salman Rushdie.

[1923] That's interesting.

[1924] He's an interesting guy.

[1925] And maybe Sean Penn was there and then some other eclectic, weird, interesting person.

[1926] Their talents, got them there their actual contribution into the bar your talent shouldn't get you into a bar you're a person on earth and you should be able to go to a bar if you want to go to a bar and if if you can't what i'm saying is i look around certain concourse to elegance car show and it's a bunch of rich guys bidding 59 million dollars for ferrari and they didn't even like cars two years ago and And they don't seem deserving of anything because all they did is make money.

[1927] I don't, I just, I'm not in awe of that.

[1928] That's not something I'm impressed by.

[1929] I'm impressed by Salman Rushdie's writing tremendously.

[1930] Like he, in my opinion, he has an output that is of true value.

[1931] Not that he bought one stock at a certain price and became a billionaire.

[1932] That to me is not.

[1933] But that doesn't mean he's a more valuable human than another person.

[1934] No, what it means is there's two exclusive clubs.

[1935] One of the exclusive clubs, the entry, barrier to entry is wealth.

[1936] And there's another exclusive club where the barrier of entry is creative genius.

[1937] I would prefer to be around the club that's the barrier to entry is creative genius.

[1938] Every time, 10 times out of 10.

[1939] How about you?

[1940] What one would, if you've got to go to one of the two.

[1941] I don't like that there's a barrier of entry at all.

[1942] Well, that's a reality of a bar that is everyone wants to go to and they have to turn people away.

[1943] So that's just a marketplace reality.

[1944] Then I just don't want to go to that place.

[1945] That place is doing something that I think is a problem, which is picking humans over other humans because they are, quote, better because they're in movies or they wrote a book or like, yeah, I don't like that.

[1946] And I'm really surprised you do.

[1947] I don't like that.

[1948] What I'm saying is I'm not there going, I don't like these people.

[1949] I'm often at like yacht clubby things where I'm like, gross, I don't like these people.

[1950] They're bound together because they have money.

[1951] That's not why the people are bound together at Chateau -Mormand.

[1952] They're bound together because they have these artistic endeavors.

[1953] And I don't mind that.

[1954] Yeah, I guess.

[1955] I also, I don't like when a whole bunch of artists are sitting around talking about the impact of art or, like, speaking.

[1956] I actually, I find it pretty repulsive.

[1957] Well, I don't think Salman Rushdie was sitting around talking about the impact of his work.

[1958] Well, they might.

[1959] When sometimes people are high on their, quote, value.

[1960] And what their value is, is their artistic output.

[1961] Sometimes some people can elevate that to a status that I think is silly.

[1962] Well, yeah, those people are abhorrent.

[1963] But someone like Sean Penn, who's just this tremendous actor, maybe one of the best to ever live, is processing the world differently than I am.

[1964] And that's interesting to me. I would like to know his opinion on many things.

[1965] A guy who manages a hedge fund, I don't know.

[1966] Maybe he's got some cool.

[1967] He probably does.

[1968] Like, again, I don't think it's fair to say.

[1969] this person had some crazy adventurous life, so that makes him more valuable or interesting.

[1970] I'm sure the hedge fund manager has a bunch of stories and stuff, too.

[1971] I don't mind saying that I think you can put a value on people's contribution to our society.

[1972] And I think the people who make money on other people's money are contributing less than artists and novelists and poets and stuff.

[1973] That's my position.

[1974] Okay.

[1975] All right.

[1976] Fun, fun dance.
