[1] It's Monday, October 9th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] Following the deadly attacks by terrorist group Hamas, the Israel Defense Force ordered a complete siege of Gaza on Monday.
[3] It's also called up 300 ,000 reservists under the military operation officially titled Swords of Iron.
[4] This comes as officials have confirmed the death of more than 900 Israeli citizens, a number that's expected to rise.
[5] Another 2 ,500 Israelis were injured following the attacks from Hamas.
[6] Meanwhile, the U .S. State Department confirmed today that at least nine Americans were killed during the attacks.
[7] An unknown number of hostages have also been captured by the terrorist group, and it's unclear how many of those are U .S. citizens.
[8] On Monday, former Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy, pledged that the GOP will stop at nothing to bring home any U .S. citizens.
[9] President Biden's number one priority right now must be finding out how many.
[10] Americans have been taken hostage and get them home.
[11] From last night to this morning, the number of American deaths have doubled from four to nine.
[12] This administration must also make clear that harming any American will result in the wrath of the United States.
[13] We cannot repeat what happened in Afghanistan.
[14] It must be clear that we do not negotiate with terrorists and no American will be left Meanwhile, Hamas has pledged that it will kill one civilian hostage and live stream the barbarity for every Israeli airstrike that occurs unannounced.
[15] The European Union announced today that it was immediately halting hundreds of millions of euros in Palestinian aid due to the scale of terror and brutality during the attacks on Israel by Hamas.
[16] Germany and Austria also made similar pledges.
[17] However, the EU eventually appeared to waiver, saying some aid would be sent to the Palestinians for those in urgent need.
[18] EU officials say they condemn the attack and that they're reserving all funds for peace.
[19] Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., announced today that he will seek the highest office in the land as an independent.
[20] His decision comes after he says the Democratic National Committee rigged the primary for incumbent President Joe Biden.
[21] Kennedy made the announcement in Philadelphia.
[22] This country is ready for a history -making change.
[23] They are ready to reclaim their freedom, They're independents.
[24] And that's why I'm here today.
[25] I'm here to declare myself an independent candidate.
[26] Another group of United Auto Workers' union members are on strike, this time at Mack Trucks.
[27] The UAW announced this morning that its members had rejected a contract from the company.
[28] Now nearly 4 ,000 unionized workers from Mack Trucks plants in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Florida are on the picket line.
[29] UAW President Sean Fain said he was inspired by the union members, while Mack Trucks said it was surprised and disappointed with the decision.
[30] The strike comes as workers at the auto industry's big three continue to demand better contracts.
[31] And more than 2 ,500 people have reportedly died after a pair of 6 .3 magnitude earthquakes struck parts of Western Afghanistan on Saturday, marking one of the country's deadliest tremors in the last 20 years.
[32] The initial quake struck about 20 miles west of the city of Harat, the third largest city in Afghanistan, and home to nearly 600 ,000 people.
[33] In the western Harat province, which borders Iran, the U .S. Geological Survey said it was followed by several strong tremors and aftershocks measuring magnitudes 6 .3, 5 .9 and 5 .5 .5.
[34] More than 9 ,000 have been injured and more than 1 ,300 homes destroyed.
