Morning Wire XX
[0] I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor -in -Chief John Bickley.
[1] It's Monday, September 18th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] 36 hours after the murder of our deputy, the men and women of our department, arrested him early this morning.
[3] I'm very proud, very proud of the work that our men and women have done.
[4] In an update to a story from this morning's episode, law enforcement in Los Angeles have done.
[5] obtained a suspect in connection to the fatal shooting of sheriff's deputy Ryan Klinkin -Broomer.
[6] Daily Wire's senior editor Cabot Phillips has more.
[7] A tip reportedly led officers to a home in Palmdale, where a relative of the male suspect provided key details in the case.
[8] According to Fox News, the suspect inside that home was taken into custody, quote, without incident after gas was deployed at the property.
[9] Clinkin -Broomer was shot in his patrol vehicle on Saturday and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
[10] While the motive has not yet been provided, the sheriff's office says they sustained.
[11] the deputy was deliberately targeted because he was an officer.
[12] The United Auto Workers' Strike has entered its fourth day with no potential agreement in sight between the Union and the Big Three automakers.
[13] The UAW is demanding a four -day work week, increased pay and other benefits.
[14] Economists warned that a prolonged strike could hamper the U .S. economy, but Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said Monday that it's too early to tell how the work stoppage will impact the nation.
[15] We want to see the two sides come to a win -win agreement.
[16] President Biden is made clear he expects them to work hard to negotiate 24 -7 to get to a solution.
[17] And so we're hoping that that will happen soon.
[18] You know, I think it's premature to be making forecast about what it means for the economy.
[19] It would depend very much on how long the strike lasts and exactly who's affected.
[20] by it.
[21] Meanwhile, Democratic congressmen and senators have joined the UAW picket line with at least one representative calling on President Biden to join the protest as well.
[22] The five U .S. citizens who were freed by the Iranian government as part of a prisoner swap have landed in Qatar.
[23] Tehran received five Iranian prisoners and the Biden administration unfroze $6 billion in assets.
[24] That money is now in Iranian accounts.
[25] When pressed about why the Biden administration agreed to such excessive demands, administration spokesman John Kirby defended the deal.
[26] This is the deal that we were able to strike to secure the release of five Americans.
[27] Getting Americans home requires decisions, sometimes really tough decisions.
[28] It requires compromise.
[29] It requires negotiations.
[30] It requires negotiations with people you really would rather not be sitting across the table from, but you got to do it.
[31] Because Americans overseas in trouble wrongfully detained need to know, and their families need to know that this president and this administration will do what it takes to bring them home.
[32] The U .S. military is still searching for a missing F -35 fighter jet that is believed to have crashed after the plane's pilot ejected due to a mishap on Sunday.
[33] Joint base Charleston, which is located in South Carolina, said on social media that efforts are underway to locate the aircraft with the help of Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, but that the government is also asking the public for help in law.
[34] locating the aircraft.
[35] The U .S. Senate will no longer enforce a dress code for senators.
[36] That's a change that comes a few months after Democrat Senator John Fetterman made headlines for disregarding the rules.
[37] Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer directed the Senate's sergeant at arms to stop enforcement, a change that will go into effect next week.
[38] Schumer told Axios, quote, Senators are able to choose what they wear on the Senate floor.
[39] I will continue to wear a suit.
[40] The change is tailored to only affect senators and not staff members.
[41] And at the Clinton Global Initiative meeting in New York City on Monday morning, Massachusetts Governor Mara Healy announced that state agencies will now be banned from purchasing single -use plastic bottles.
[42] Healy cited the climate crisis as the impetus behind her decision.
