Giant Bombcast XX
[0] Everyone, it's Tuesday, November the 2nd, 2010, and you are listening to the Giant Bobcast.
[1] I'm Ryan Davis.
[2] He's Vinny Caravella.
[3] Who's that guy?
[4] He's Jeff Gerstman.
[5] Yeah, he is.
[6] And she's Brad Shoemaker.
[7] Sick burn.
[8] Sick burn.
[9] Oh, man. Sick burn.
[10] Are we going to take that again?
[11] Should we take it from the top?
[12] I think it messed up.
[13] We are here.
[14] No, no. That went exactly as planned.
[15] Hey, guys.
[16] The Giants won the World Series.
[17] Let's get that out of the way first off.
[18] That was last night.
[19] Football.
[20] in Texas, although San Francisco burned because of it.
[21] Yeah.
[22] Wasn't that awesome?
[23] I was stoked.
[24] I was so happy.
[25] That cemented it.
[26] You can't really have a sports championship without a proper riot, without a car being overturned or set ablaze.
[27] This doesn't sound like it was a proper riot at all.
[28] Somebody was setting off M80s in the street outside the bar.
[29] That's just kids.
[30] That just sounds like that's not a riot.
[31] That's a street party.
[32] That sounds like another night at the 540.
[33] And a few acts of vandalism do not riot make.
[34] They set one off on top of one of those service hatches that let you get under the street.
[35] Great.
[36] So you got that reverberation of the hollow metal space over there.
[37] It sounded like they blew up a car.
[38] Wow, was Chris there?
[39] It was pretty crazy.
[40] That's kind of his trademark thing.
[41] Was it the 540?
[42] No. Or downtown.
[43] Go Giants!
[44] Oh, I was watching the...
[45] Channel 7 had the CHP chopper camera live streaming last night and was watching that and watching people set fires in the middle of the street in the Mission District and then jump through the fires.
[46] Yeah, it was just madness.
[47] That's not a proper riot.
[48] That sounds like Burning Man came back to San Francisco.
[49] Yeah, I know.
[50] And then everyone was – I don't think it's a riot if you can do a four -square check -in from it.
[51] Yo, I'm checking in for my riot.
[52] I'm here at the – I'm the mayor of this riot.
[53] I'm here at the Polk Street riot.
[54] There was definitely a moment there.
[55] As I started to hear that there was crowds gathering, I was like, oh, man, there's going to be some kind of riot.
[56] Maybe I should get in my car and drive down there.
[57] I actually thought like – I could set something.
[58] I could go steal some shoes.
[59] I could go get some shoes.
[60] There were some reports.
[61] Now I've got a laptop computer.
[62] I had heard some reports of some light looting.
[63] Yeah.
[64] I just hope nobody, as long as nobody got killed, once people start dying, then you classify as a riot.
[65] We saw a street altercation on the way home.
[66] Okay.
[67] Was it between police and revelers?
[68] No, or was it just people who got out of their cars?
[69] We didn't know what was going on.
[70] Oh, that's great.
[71] That's even better.
[72] So Jeff and I, we left the city early yesterday because of poo smells.
[73] Sorry about that.
[74] No, I had to get back and make some.
[75] That's why we ate all those hot dogs just before this podcast.
[76] We were late for a very important date.
[77] So Brad, Vinny, I imagine you were probably tucked safe and sound.
[78] I was at home and I heard some screaming.
[79] I was like, oh, baseball game.
[80] Baseball happened.
[81] I should turn that on when they hit that home run.
[82] I was like, I'm going to watch this now.
[83] I should watch the end of this.
[84] But Brad, you were actually out in the thick of it.
[85] That's right.
[86] In the field.
[87] Man in the field.
[88] That's true.
[89] Tell me about San Francisco last night.
[90] A lot of people were yelling and honking horns.
[91] I don't know.
[92] It was pretty positive, really.
[93] Yeah.
[94] It was very plur.
[95] Plur?
[96] Out there.
[97] Oh, forget it.
[98] If you could describe it as plur, then I'm glad I stayed.
[99] I mean, there were no sinister aspects to the stuff I saw.
[100] Just a lot of people like hanging out of cars and screaming.
[101] So I think it's the mindset that I had about this is why I understand how riots happen at sports championships.
[102] Because there's like all these people that are having a good time.
[103] Like, yeah, yeah.
[104] And there's people like, man, there's a lot of people here.
[105] Like, anything I do, no one's ever going to know.
[106] Because there's so many people here.
[107] It's the internet.
[108] Yeah, basically.
[109] You get that feeling of anonymity and you're like, well, what if I had all this free stuff and all I have to do is break this window RoboCop style and I can turn up this TV and steal this car.
[110] I also wonder with riots, where do the cinder blocks come from?
[111] You need those.
[112] Where do you find a cinder block?
[113] College student dorms.
[114] It's using them for shelving.
[115] It's BYO.
[116] Okay.
[117] Yeah.
[118] Come to my riot store.
[119] I've got cinder blocks.
[120] Well, yeah, you could just loot the riot store.
[121] You don't have to worry about paying for anything.
[122] But how do you break the window?
[123] God damn it.
[124] All the cinder blocks are back there.
[125] They're inside.
[126] They're behind the plague.
[127] Someone goes in and buys one, and then he throws it out.
[128] You need a bag for that?
[129] No. No, thanks.
[130] Oh!
[131] Why didn't I foresee this coming as the proprietor of this riot store?
[132] Oh, there's a button that sets it on fire.
[133] So, Brad, just lots of high fives and people wooing.
[134] Other than the occasional explosives, it was pretty positive.
[135] Fireworks.
[136] Fireworks are extremely positive.
[137] I'm sorry.
[138] And there were totally fireworks in Petaluma, and that's how I knew.
[139] I'm like, okay, yep, people are watching the game up here.
[140] Bedroom community, like, what?
[141] Yeah, totally.
[142] So, yeah, that was fun.
[143] In Texas, do you know?
[144] No, no, I don't think so.
[145] Okay.
[146] I don't know.
[147] It doesn't seem like losing teams right.
[148] It doesn't seem like that's what happens.
[149] A lot of quiet hang dog expressions.
[150] I mean, I didn't really have a ton invested in the game itself.
[151] It was cool to see the Giants win and all that stuff.
[152] But for me, it was seeing...
[153] columnists writing culture pieces out of the texas newspapers like those hippies don't deserve real sports yeah i was just like there's a great video up on youtube that i saw a dead spin of this television reporter for the Texas station that's obsessed with people smoking weed in the stadium.
[154] Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[155] Did you see that?
[156] Yeah.
[157] They're over there smoking weed!
[158] Like, every five minutes.
[159] That ain't cigarettes, that's weed.
[160] Yeah, yeah.
[161] I love that video because the guy seems super positive about it all.
[162] Right, exactly.
[163] It's like, this place is great!
[164] Everybody's really nice around here.
[165] Everyone's super positive and, you know, they want their team to win, but whatever.
[166] They're smoking weed.
[167] Yeah.
[168] And he kept bringing it back up.
[169] Yeah, exactly.
[170] He kept asking him about other stuff.
[171] There's like four or five check -ins.
[172] And he kept kind of coming back to it.
[173] Which I thought was pretty funny.
[174] Blew his mind.
[175] But no, I saw the culture piece of why the Rangers should win.
[176] They're good, hard -working folk in Texas.
[177] They're guys in San Francisco.
[178] They don't even understand what baseball is.
[179] It was stuff like, their mayor's name is Gavin Newsom.
[180] What sort of name is that?
[181] Literally.
[182] He looks like a supermodel.
[183] All right.
[184] I guess he told us.
[185] He's like, oh, damn it.
[186] He's right.
[187] Can't argue with that logic.
[188] Give it back.
[189] Our colors are red, white, and blue.
[190] They look like Halloween colors.
[191] I've got a really stupid baseball question that I felt even stupider because my wife asked me. What's a strike?
[192] Most baseball teams are city -based, right?
[193] So what's up with Texas?
[194] When you have multiple teams in one state sometimes, so it's like why they used to be the California Angels because there was already the LA Dodgers.
[195] So they just go statewide?
[196] And they could be Anaheim because no one cares about Anaheim.
[197] So now they're the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
[198] Same thing with the Warriors, right?
[199] Well, the Warriors are the Golden State Warriors.
[200] So they ended up changing their name from the California Angels to the Los Angeles Angels to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim because the hats sell better if they say LA on them.
[201] Branding.
[202] Branding.
[203] Totally branding.
[204] By the New York Jets.
[205] Why not the New Jersey Jets?
[206] I think they might be the New Jersey Jets.
[207] No, they're the New York Jets.
[208] What happens when the 49ers move to San Jose?
[209] Or the A's.
[210] The A's are probably going to end up moving to San Jose at some point.
[211] But also New York City.
[212] Sounds like the San Jose thing is moving forward.
[213] That's actually been my highlight.
[214] It's been funny.
[215] I haven't seen any shit -talking Rangers fans, but I love shit -talking A's fans.
[216] It's like, dude, come on.
[217] Just relax a little bit.
[218] I've enjoyed watching a lot of A's games over the past couple of years, but I don't have any kind of...
[219] Not enough to harbor some kind of ill will.
[220] It's just that working class burden.
[221] It's that sense that all the Giants have all this money and we're just the poor Oakland A's.
[222] We got more championships than you guys.
[223] Yeah, from the 70s.
[224] Those are good championships.
[225] They are, yeah.
[226] That's a good time.
[227] I don't know.
[228] Their last one was from beating the Giants.
[229] That's true.
[230] But that was it.
[231] Their last one was 89.
[232] That's not recent either.
[233] The two biggest players from that team are now total disgraces.
[234] So, yeah.
[235] Like, whatever.
[236] I don't know.
[237] Sports.
[238] Sports.
[239] I like when people are real happy about it.
[240] It was fun to watch.
[241] Like, I'm not a baseball guy.
[242] Like, I'll watch some games, and I haven't followed the Giants in years.
[243] But it's fun that the – everyone being excited.
[244] Everyone in San Francisco being super excited about stuff.
[245] It's been fun to watch.
[246] Next day, vote.
[247] Tear people apart.
[248] Today is vote day.
[249] And I have to wonder, like, if too many people were too hungover today to go vote.
[250] That would be a bummer.
[251] Prop 19 will not pass now because you've got one or the other.
[252] Either the Giants won last night or Prop 19 passed.
[253] Oh, man, that's not a fair trade at all.
[254] I'm saying, anyone in San Francisco, think of all the people that would have voted yes on Prop 19 that are too hungover to get out and vote today.
[255] Props.
[256] A lot of props.
[257] A lot of propers.
[258] Gosh darn it.
[259] Giving up love.
[260] All right.
[261] I'm starting to sweat out these hot dogs.
[262] Let's talk about video games.
[263] Oh, we had all these leftover hot dogs in the office from...
[264] stuff last week.
[265] I was totally baffled by when someone was like, hey, we're going to make hot dogs.
[266] Welcome to every night last week here.
[267] I picked the fucking wrong week to not fucking be here.
[268] Starting Wednesday, it was just hot dogs and chili and nachos.
[269] Bad nacho cheese.
[270] Great bad nacho cheese.
[271] Wings.
[272] Generic snack mix.
[273] Just to rewind a little bit because people might think we're making hot dogs in a microwave or boiling on a stove.
[274] We got a steamer.
[275] We got like a full on industrial.
[276] And it says hot dogs on the side.
[277] And it has the red, you know, and the hot dog sticker that is indicative of anybody selling a hot dog.
[278] You need to have that one sticker that says hot dogs.
[279] And you're like, oh, that's where I get hot dogs.
[280] Hot dogs.
[281] Do you have pretzels?
[282] No. We can take that thing outside and put it on a cart.
[283] Yep.
[284] And get an umbrella over it.
[285] We'd be in business.
[286] Some hot dogs.
[287] Some hot dogs in there.
[288] Yeah.
[289] No sauerkraut, though.
[290] Yeah, we had sweet relish.
[291] Vinny's disappointed.
[292] I know.
[293] I miss the sauerkraut, too.
[294] Kind of want another hot dog.
[295] Go get another hot dog.
[296] So it has been a week of different combinations of, oh, you know, hot dog.
[297] I'll put a little nacho cheese on there.
[298] Tomorrow I'll try a little some nachos on the hot dog and some beans and mustard and ketchup.
[299] I'll just put everything on here.
[300] Now I'll just pour the alcohol right on the hot dog.
[301] Steam it right in bourbon.
[302] After my hot dog last night, I went across the street and got a bacon cheeseburger.
[303] Did you really?
[304] Yes, I wanted to die last night.
[305] Oh, my God.
[306] God, you've got something in your colon that is super meat boy.
[307] He's got to pop out of there.
[308] That's where he came from.
[309] That's the true origin story.
[310] Vinny Caravelle.
[311] Hey, man. So you have not been distracted by Bases Ball.
[312] You've had video games.
[313] To play.
[314] It's true.
[315] Vinny, what video games have you been playing lately?
[316] So I've gotten real deep into Fable.
[317] Fable 3.
[318] The third one.
[319] The third.
[320] And I'm about 20 hours in maybe?
[321] 17, 18, 19?
[322] I don't know.
[323] That's far.
[324] Going.
[325] I like it.
[326] And you hit the...
[327] I don't think I did.
[328] Oh, you did.
[329] The part?
[330] No, not the part that I hated.
[331] Oh.
[332] But the part where they say, hey, you should finish up your business before you move on.
[333] I did hit that part.
[334] I was like, hey, go do your thing because you might not be back for a while.
[335] Did you go past that yet?
[336] No. Okay.
[337] I'm doing my business.
[338] That is the exact moment that I had stopped liking that game.
[339] No, I haven't committed yet.
[340] I told the dude I'll be back.
[341] Jeff, you've been playing a fair amount?
[342] Yeah.
[343] I saw you.
[344] I saw your little dog.
[345] Yeah, yeah.
[346] I was running around the spot.
[347] I was like, oh, I should give him some money.
[348] But you kept running away before I could give you any money.
[349] Do that little weird.
[350] I saw you once on Sunday.
[351] Yeah, I saw you too.
[352] Were you playing the loot?
[353] A little orb.
[354] What's that?
[355] You were in the loot station.
[356] Loot hero.
[357] Oh, I might have been.
[358] Oh, God.
[359] My insides are trying to get out.
[360] Oh, yeah, I was playing the loot.
[361] Man, all right.
[362] Getting paid playing the loot.
[363] You make some money playing the loot.
[364] You make some money, but those minigames are fucked up.
[365] Yep.
[366] Especially like, yeah, once you level it up to level three or higher and the yellow and the green look real similar.
[367] That part's fucked up, but also just the frame rate and the registering is terrible.
[368] Oh, you're just having to be ahead of the curve on where the lines move.
[369] You're like, okay.
[370] That stuff sucks.
[371] Those games are terrible.
[372] You should not play those under any circumstance.
[373] You make a lot of money.
[374] I wanted the money.
[375] I made crazy money.
[376] So as soon as you get enough money to buy one property, never play those games again.
[377] That's kind of what I did.
[378] Well, so I had been playing the game in one sitting, so I hadn't stepped away from the game to accumulate all that money.
[379] Because it just accumulates while you're playing, right?
[380] Every five minutes.
[381] It's in -game, yeah.
[382] But it has to be in -game.
[383] I'm not going to turn it back on and get a bunch of money.
[384] Didn't Fable 2 do it that way?
[385] Yes.
[386] What the fuck?
[387] Well, that's how people abuse the system clock and just set it in.
[388] So now I just see people who are like, oh, bought my house.
[389] It's going to leave the game on for 48 hours.
[390] That's actually what I ended up doing.
[391] I'll put it this way.
[392] I had almost 5 million gold by the end of the game.
[393] Did you reset key?
[394] What's that?
[395] How much money did you reset key?
[396] No, I think you need like 20 million.
[397] Did you guys see there's a money cheat?
[398] Really?
[399] Oh, it's like an item dupe exploit?
[400] Yeah.
[401] Yeah, I saw that.
[402] You give money to somebody, and then they reject it, and then you get that money back.
[403] Plus?
[404] Plus the money back.
[405] Well, they just keep rejecting it.
[406] Like give it to another person?
[407] Yeah, I give you five bucks, right?
[408] Yeah.
[409] And then you say, no, I don't want that.
[410] Here, take five bucks.
[411] And then you quickly bail out, and then you come back in, and it has a gift again.
[412] You're like, no, I said I don't want that.
[413] And then you come back, you log out, and you log back in real quick.
[414] I said I don't want that.
[415] And then when I go back.
[416] I get all the unwanted times that you said, I don't want that.
[417] So if I gave you $5 and you said, I don't want that five times, I get $25 in there.
[418] So imagine that with a million dollars.
[419] Yeah.
[420] Like $5 million.
[421] $5 million.
[422] It's just not even necessary though.
[423] No. Seriously, just buy every business.
[424] At this point, I'm making a million dollars every five minutes or something like that.
[425] It's like, all right.
[426] I'm in the process of trying to buy out everything in Brightwall.
[427] I'm going city by city.
[428] Okay.
[429] Yeah, their stuff is still...
[430] I've just been buying stuff at random.
[431] Yeah.
[432] Still sucks.
[433] And setting all the rents low.
[434] It's still terrible.
[435] Their property management stuff is still terrible.
[436] Now they introduced the repair mechanic.
[437] Yeah, I was going to say, don't buy rentals.
[438] Don't buy houses and rent them out because you have to keep repair.
[439] Yeah, you don't have to repair businesses.
[440] Yeah, but rentals get you some money.
[441] Initially, yeah.
[442] But as soon as you start affording some businesses, sell all your housing properties and forget it.
[443] They just need a hub to manage all that stuff.
[444] Well, you can do it from a map.
[445] But like repair all.
[446] Like repair the city.
[447] Well, there's something in there for you can set the rent or the prices of your stuff across all properties, right?
[448] No, I think you have to set the rent per property.
[449] I felt like there was something that they were saying about...
[450] Maybe I didn't go into that room.
[451] What the hell?
[452] I understand.
[453] So the thing I like about Fable 3 so far is that I can play it laying down.
[454] That game is easy as hell.
[455] It's so casual.
[456] None of it matters.
[457] I'm just going to run around and not kill stuff because I'm playing a good guy.
[458] And then I'm going to fight these guys and it's the easiest fighting in the world.
[459] it ends up just being this incredibly casual laid back game.
[460] And I understand that that's, you know, they want people, they want anyone to be able to play that game, which is why the interface is so stupid because they've tried to make it like as easy for anyone to walk up and understand it.
[461] And they got really close.
[462] Yeah.
[463] But then the map is so fucking broken.
[464] Oh man. And the breadcrumb trail breaks.
[465] Oh man. And that, yeah, the map is what map.
[466] The map is atrocious.
[467] And the fast travel is like, what?
[468] Like, where are you putting me?
[469] It's so inconsistent.
[470] In the room.
[471] Sometimes you're on top of the quest giver.
[472] Sometimes it'll put you right on top of your quest objective.
[473] Sometimes at the beginning of the entire level and you just have to run through it.
[474] Oh, I thought it always puts you at the start of a zone.
[475] I didn't realize it was.
[476] Sometimes it'll take you right where you need to go.
[477] I don't think I've ever had that happen.
[478] I don't think I've ever had that happen.
[479] What I've realized is that if you fast travel with the quest, you're like, oh, you set this thing to your quest.
[480] It usually puts you outside the zone.
[481] And if you just fast travel.
[482] You say, no, I don't want to fast travel with the quest and then fast travel with the magnifying glass in the city.
[483] It sometimes will drop you right in the city, like in front of where the magnifying glass is.
[484] Right.
[485] And sometimes it won't.
[486] And it's like, this is stupid.
[487] Yeah, that's pretty bad.
[488] The breadcrumb trail doesn't show up or like you don't know where the goddamn gate is to get into the monorail, which also has two rails.
[489] And you're like, I don't know where the entrance is there.
[490] I can't set a waypoint.
[491] There's no mini -map here.
[492] You don't give me my person icon when I'm on this other map.
[493] I'm just running around waiting to get a transition prompt to go into the next area.
[494] Be like, is this it?
[495] No, this says it.
[496] I'm going to Brightwell.
[497] Well, fucking hell.
[498] Because there's like a bunch of Balvarines over there.
[499] I ended up rebooting the game.
[500] and the breadcrumb trail started working again, and everything was fine.
[501] It slows down.
[502] It slows down over time.
[503] I would just change quests and then change back to the quest that I wanted.
[504] I had it completely break to the point where it wasn't working on anything.
[505] Oh, jeez.
[506] So I had to turn the game off and turn it back on to get that thing to appear at all.
[507] It's weird.
[508] At some point, you feel like you're watching the game trying to figure stuff out.
[509] Yeah, or it was directing me to the point where I was already standing, even though that wasn't anywhere close to where the quest was.
[510] Didn't that thing work fine in Fable 2?
[511] No, it was hinky.
[512] It was a little fucked up.
[513] Was it this bad, though?
[514] No. I never felt like you just had to stand there and wait for the breadcrumb trail.
[515] But this one does weird things.
[516] It needs some kind of interface pop -up of just calculating.
[517] It needs that GPS reticulating splines moment or something.
[518] Yeah, that's...
[519] But that being said, I am enjoying playing the game.
[520] It's just that you kind of...
[521] And I'm at this point now where the combat's actually starting to get kind of hard because I'm getting surrounded by Balvarines and stuff, and they're actually...
[522] It gets harder, but I wouldn't ever...
[523] But you can always run away and regen your health.
[524] I mean, you finished it without dying, right?
[525] You got the achievement for not getting knocked out.
[526] But this is completely the gameplay of Fable 2.
[527] Totally.
[528] And the magic is...
[529] Even the enemy types of there's going to be some Hobbs, there's going to be some Mercenaries, there's going to be...
[530] What about spell weaving?
[531] No, but I've weaved the fuck out of some spells.
[532] What am I using?
[533] I'm using Force, Push, and Fire.
[534] That's probably the best one until the very end when you get Blade.
[535] I changed to Ice and Fire.
[536] What does that do?
[537] What does Ice and Fire together do?
[538] Oh no, actually, you know what?
[539] Fire and Vortex, if you have Vortex yet.
[540] I do, but I didn't like it.
[541] Really?
[542] Yeah.
[543] I don't know.
[544] I don't know.
[545] It's a great area of effect.
[546] Yeah, the area of effect was good, but I never used the area stuff.
[547] So if you don't mix, do they just want you to mix all the time?
[548] Because if you don't mix, is it more powerful fire or something?
[549] If you're just straight fire?
[550] No, no. Okay.
[551] Yeah, once you can weave, you should always weave.
[552] Always be weaving.
[553] It's such a joke, though.
[554] So basically, as soon as I got blades, I stuck with fire and blades.
[555] The last boss of the game, I pointed the stick at him and hit B over and over and over and over and over and over, and he was dead.
[556] Great.
[557] You know, and it says when you go over the fire thing, like, this combines well with blades.
[558] Yeah, like they tell you straight up.
[559] That's a pretty good combination.
[560] So here's another kind of, again, I am liking the game, but there are tons of things to just pick apart.
[561] The weapons have those, like, little mini achievements, let's say.
[562] I thought that was cool.
[563] I like that.
[564] It's cool, but, like, having to, like, oh, now I'm going up against Hollow Man. Let me go into my inventory.
[565] Let me go get my Hollow Man gun.
[566] You have to cycle through all of them to remember.
[567] Does it just have to be equipped?
[568] I think you have to use it to kill them.
[569] So it's like you have to kill them.
[570] Killed 300 Holloman or whatever for this gun.
[571] Well, forget it.
[572] I'm never going to do that.
[573] And I've got like 700 kills on Holloman already, so sometimes I'm just not shooting them.
[574] I got that gun early on enough that I'm close to getting.
[575] Was that Bone Smasher?
[576] Yeah, the Bone Smasher.
[577] I got it last night, and then I was like, now I've got to shoot 200 dudes with the Flourish.
[578] I got it right before the fort.
[579] Yeah, I think that's when you got it.
[580] Because I was going to try and get the shoot X number of...
[581] use a ranged weapon on X number of enemies for the achievement.
[582] So kind of like along the way for that.
[583] So it's the shooting flourish, not the melee flourish.
[584] Or the bone smasher, I think.
[585] So there's a shooting flourish?
[586] Yeah, if you hold it down.
[587] It's pretty cool, though.
[588] He'll shoot at his feet and make them dance.
[589] There are a couple.
[590] There's one where he throws the gun up in the air and runs around to the other side of the enemy and then catches it and shoots it in the back of the head.
[591] Are those the flourishes?
[592] Because that's what doesn't happen when you hold it down.
[593] That just seems to happen randomly.
[594] They almost seem to trigger it randomly.
[595] I don't know.
[596] I wouldn't bother.
[597] I wouldn't bother.
[598] But there is that achievement for filling out.
[599] So get Wolfsbane.
[600] That's easily, by far, the easiest one to fill out.
[601] Is that to just kill wolves?
[602] There's like one for 50 wolves and Balvarines.
[603] There's one for 50 at night.
[604] Oh.
[605] And the other one is super easy, too.
[606] I feel like they don't do a great job of telling you that you'd ever want to switch weapons because they say like, oh, we found all these weapons that will totally change over time.
[607] And you're like, oh, well, obviously I want to keep using these weapons.
[608] Because they're the ones that change over time.
[609] So clearly this starting sword is going to also be the final sword.
[610] But then they give you all these other weapons.
[611] Like, oh, wait.
[612] Well, so I think the starting weapons change.
[613] They change even if you're not using them.
[614] Yeah, and the other weapons seem to change too.
[615] But the starting weapons don't – they don't seem to be going up in power or damage.
[616] So it's like – They totally do.
[617] They totally do.
[618] My hero sword is now 30.
[619] It wasn't 30.
[620] Because you're upgrading on the road rule.
[621] That's what increases the damage.
[622] Because I had the collector's edition, which came with this hammer that was like started at 30.
[623] And like, it was just, why would I say the evil, like the bloodstone hammer or something?
[624] Yeah.
[625] Or I don't know.
[626] Yeah.
[627] It's like, kill five people that love you.
[628] I'm like, I'm not playing that kind of game.
[629] Thanks for the useless weapon.
[630] No, it was something else.
[631] There's like the champion.
[632] It's some, it's some hammer.
[633] Anyway, it's, um, I was reading somewhere that the UK version got a good weapon and the US version got an evil weapon.
[634] Oh, somehow telling.
[635] Hmm.
[636] Anyway, that game's fine.
[637] Obama.
[638] That's right.
[639] That's right.
[640] Vote.
[641] Make your voice heard.
[642] Vote evil.
[643] So this is the best quest in that game, which is the game.
[644] The tabletop.
[645] Goddamn.
[646] Worth the price of admission.
[647] If you've played that quest, then that game has peaked for you because it never gets that good again.
[648] But it's great because I don't know that I'll have time to get back to that game ever.
[649] But that quest is excellent.
[650] It's fantastic.
[651] The writing is so good.
[652] It is.
[653] And you were right.
[654] The writing throughout, the dialogue writing throughout and the voice work that they do is really, really phenomenal.
[655] There's a lot of very dry, excellent British humor throughout that.
[656] Very cheeky.
[657] What is it?
[658] Sabine?
[659] Sabine.
[660] Sabine's a lot of fun.
[661] That's Ben Kingsley.
[662] That's Ben Kingsley, yeah.
[663] The voice work is like voice cast of the year as far as I'm concerned.
[664] What is it?
[665] Reaper's assistant.
[666] Reaver's assistant.
[667] Oh, with the speech impediment?
[668] Yeah, with the Ws.
[669] Yeah, there was some great work there, too.
[670] I think Reaver is probably the best in the game.
[671] Stephen Fry.
[672] Was he voiced by the same guy in the two?
[673] Yeah, he was.
[674] Okay.
[675] I forget who was he.
[676] He was a hero.
[677] He was...
[678] I read.
[679] He was like a marksman or something.
[680] He was the rich dude who was kind of a jerk.
[681] Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[682] He was one of the hero dudes.
[683] Oh, yeah.
[684] Shit, I forgot about that.
[685] I want you all to finish this game because if you're complaining about it this much now and none of you have gotten past that part.
[686] Again, I really like it.
[687] I think I'm invested in it.
[688] There's a lot of stuff to really like about it, but there are so many issues.
[689] I'm trying to clean up my quest before I move on to that part.
[690] It seems like from the map, it seems like I'm just going to go to that other land that's south of me, Aurora or whatever.
[691] So I'm just hunting gnomes.
[692] Well, some of the gnomes are in Aurora, so you might as well just go.
[693] Well, maybe it's going to lock me out.
[694] Who knows?
[695] Maybe the town will collapse.
[696] I also want to try and find that damn gold key because I found the gold door and I want to see what's behind it.
[697] What's the chest that's in the sanctuary that says you have to gain a bunch of money and lose a lot in the treasury?
[698] I don't know.
[699] I have no idea.
[700] But you have to do that.
[701] I was just wondering if anyone had done it.
[702] Nope.
[703] Nope.
[704] Seems like a lot of money.
[705] I've got like 2 million.
[706] My pile is like right up at the top.
[707] I can almost like climb up on there and get the key, but not quite.
[708] Oh, okay.
[709] There's a key up.
[710] I didn't know.
[711] Way up there.
[712] So you can actually run up the pile of money and get the key.
[713] Got it.
[714] Okay.
[715] The thing that bums me out probably the most about that game, the damn multiplayer achievements.
[716] I would probably go for the full 1 ,000, but...
[717] I just don't want...
[718] I don't remember what there is.
[719] It's all like trading stuff, right?
[720] There's like five of them.
[721] Some of them seem pretty easy.
[722] I did three of them.
[723] Scooter and I did three of them in about five minutes.
[724] I was going to say, there's the get married, have a baby, start a business.
[725] Start a business.
[726] Like, literally, those are just little interaction.
[727] You want to start a business with me, we can start a business.
[728] I'll start a business.
[729] Trade gold.
[730] Don't go in with him.
[731] Stab you in the back.
[732] You want to make a baby?
[733] There's a demon.
[734] Are you a lady?
[735] Is anyone a lady?
[736] No. There's a demon door that wants you to make out with another player.
[737] We couldn't get that one to work.
[738] We tried every option that it presented to us in front of that thing, and it just kept being like, oh, why don't you do something original?
[739] Interesting.
[740] I have no idea.
[741] Chicken dance.
[742] I don't know.
[743] Maybe you need to fight.
[744] Yeah, so not to keep on tearing poor Fable 3 apart here, because again, I like the game.
[745] When you interact with people and it takes like a split second to load into that little sub -menu, that's really lame.
[746] Well, for me, it's like shake your hand.
[747] I spent a lot of the early game going around talking to everybody and trying to make friends and building up relationships because I was getting all those guild seals.
[748] And early on, it was like, cool, I'm going to open up all these chests before anybody else.
[749] but those expressions take fucking forever.
[750] Yeah.
[751] And like, just like, kind of like, it's like, yeah, I get it.
[752] You're going to do this stupid dance every single time.
[753] Especially if you hold the button down to max it out.
[754] Yeah.
[755] Yeah.
[756] And then they start.
[757] This is – it's just – it got lame.
[758] See, I didn't even bother with any, like, non -quest stuff because I saw it.
[759] I'm like, oh, okay.
[760] This is identical to what it was in Fable 2.
[761] That shit was lame.
[762] I thought it was faster.
[763] Moving on.
[764] In Fable 2, you just kind of, like, start dancing in the middle of the street and people – you get a crowd and they all get the benefit, right?
[765] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[766] They just all watch you and they be like, oh, this is all individual.
[767] Then you have to do the relationship quest if you want to become friends.
[768] Once that stuff started, then I was like, I'm not talking.
[769] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[770] Basically, I cleared out my log of those because I didn't want to see them ever again.
[771] It's like, all right, good.
[772] Never talking to anyone ever again.
[773] Yeah, done.
[774] The worst part about, are you talking about just making friends with random NPCs and you have to do like the fetch quests?
[775] Yeah.
[776] And that's where my breadcrumb trail broke.
[777] So I thought that you actually had to just go randomly find dig spots and spent like a half an hour doing that before realizing like, I just fuck all these quests.
[778] Oh, that sucks.
[779] So the worst part is that if you were going for that achievement.
[780] It's like be friends with 20 people.
[781] Oh, is that an achievement?
[782] It's not make friends with 20 people.
[783] I think it's be friends at one time because you lose their friendship if you don't go back and maintain it.
[784] I actually lost progress on that quest.
[785] And if they go back to neutral, you have to do a quest again to get them back up.
[786] Boo!
[787] It's a lot of busy work.
[788] Yeah, that's no good.
[789] I do enjoy the sounds, though, because it's the same as in Fable 2, maybe even the same as in Fable 1, where it sounds like they're just really close to the mic when they're doing it.
[790] Oh, hey.
[791] Hey.
[792] Oh, hi.
[793] Oh, that's good.
[794] Oh, yeah, exactly.
[795] And then it's like it pulls back out.
[796] Oh, hey.
[797] Ah, hero.
[798] Ah.
[799] Oh, left, right?
[800] Yeah, I don't know.
[801] And I got married and now every five minutes the thing pops up saying your family would like to talk to you.
[802] Is that what the heart is?
[803] Yeah, yeah.
[804] And I'm thinking about going and killing my wife and child.
[805] Can you kill the kids?
[806] Can you kill kids?
[807] If it's lifeable to, you kill the wife and the kids automatically go into foster care.
[808] And you never see him ever again?
[809] Yeah.
[810] That's it?
[811] Okay, great.
[812] I married my villager, the villager I created.
[813] I married the villager I created too.
[814] Gross.
[815] Yeah.
[816] I married my own piece of creation.
[817] Yeah.
[818] Yeah.
[819] Incest.
[820] I have a house.
[821] That's, I don't know.
[822] I don't know.
[823] I bought a bunch of houses.
[824] I don't know.
[825] But now that I'm hearing that I have to keep the repair up on them to like...
[826] Yeah, if the repair gets to zero, it'll stop generating income.
[827] Oh, that's the worst.
[828] That's the worst.
[829] I don't know why they put that in there.
[830] Money sink.
[831] They just needed another money sink.
[832] But you should have been able to just set like an upkeep per house and it's like, hey, every time it gets to 60%.
[833] Fix it.
[834] Fix it back to 100.
[835] Or at least have that, I don't know, repair all.
[836] There's like that family upkeep or whatever you can spend money to keep them happier or whatever.
[837] I'm going to keep her happy with my blade.
[838] Like I said, the businesses give you way more money.
[839] So as soon as you start getting some businesses, just sell.
[840] They're expensive.
[841] Sell your houses.
[842] They are expensive.
[843] And also, I'll say last thing that's weird about the game.
[844] It's not necessarily I don't like it, but with all the fast traveling, different than Fable 2's, I feel like you don't get a sense of the world as much as you do.
[845] Everything feels kind of disconnected.
[846] Yeah, like...
[847] I just started running around and I was like, oh yeah, this is that lake with the hero thing in the middle from Fable 2.
[848] This is just another, like, fast travel zone in here.
[849] You don't run between the towns.
[850] And they transparently introduce, like, five or six locations to you at one time without any introduction at all.
[851] It's, like, right around the time you get to Bowerstone.
[852] Yeah, that's happened to me. I got to Bowerstone, and it's just like, oh, wait, now I can fast travel to all these other places?
[853] Yeah, by the way, here's, like, five other places that we didn't even mention, but go there if you want to.
[854] On the map, like, Bowerstone Market and Bowerstone Industrial look like they are miles apart, but then you, like, can walk from one to the loading zone of the other.
[855] It's just kind of odd like that.
[856] yeah i don't have a great like i was kind of excited of like i'm gonna go back to bowerstone and i'm gonna like recognize this this and this and it's yeah so yeah so disconnected like there's the there's the one hero statue with the the hero on the pig the knight on the oh right yeah yeah recognize that but like yeah otherwise it just seems very i don't know spent a lot of time if you able to outside of bowerstone like by that lake you know like where you first get your stuff and uh Yeah.
[857] I did find a place, though, they were like, oh, remember that bridge to the gypsy camp from Fable 2?
[858] Yes.
[859] I found a dude who was like, we're repairing the bridge.
[860] Right.
[861] And then I was like, I'll give you money because I'm never going to find this place again.
[862] Lost.
[863] No, I did that quest, too.
[864] You know, yeah, Brad, I fully agree with the...
[865] with your review and your score at this point.
[866] It's like two steps forward.
[867] You guys haven't even seen the part that I really didn't like.
[868] I can't wait to hear about that.
[869] There are still things about it that remind me of what I really enjoyed about Fable 2, but I still think Fable 2 was a better game.
[870] I haven't made it far enough to really get there yet.
[871] You're 20 hours in.
[872] I know, but there's some stuff I really like about Fable 3.
[873] I think it overall looks sharper.
[874] It seems the controls are good.
[875] The combat is what it is.
[876] I hope the controls are a little...
[877] Like just the movement.
[878] The player movement feels...
[879] He's like underwater -y.
[880] Yeah, it feels sluggish in a way that...
[881] But that was like Fable 2.
[882] Yeah, it is.
[883] I'm just...
[884] That wasn't good either.
[885] But I like the animations for, like, shooting fireballs out of your hands.
[886] That stuff's cool.
[887] And I like the little, like, gun.
[888] Did you ever get stuck charging magic?
[889] Has that ever happened to you?
[890] Yes, I did get stuck charging.
[891] It's just like, why is he?
[892] He just sits there and charges.
[893] I had to pause it and unpause it.
[894] So I ended up just hitting the magic button and he casts it and that's that.
[895] But it's like he gets locked into magic charging.
[896] That was a scary moment for me. That's happened to me, like, ten times.
[897] Like, oh, no, he's going to blow up.
[898] Well, he's just like, oh, crap, these Balvarines are just wailing.
[899] And I thought it was just like some, like, oh, I leveled up magic by using it.
[900] And he went into this animation.
[901] No, I don't know.
[902] No?
[903] Wait, what's...
[904] I don't know.
[905] The combat stuff seems cool, like when he's shooting dudes over his back and just kind of like the one -handed shots here and then a fireball here.
[906] Looks cool.
[907] And then you just roll out of the way for 20 seconds until health comes back.
[908] So that was Fable 3.
[909] Yeah.
[910] Fable 3.
[911] I don't know if I played this last time or not, but I finished Costume Quest.
[912] I think that might have been last week.
[913] I can't remember.
[914] It's been kind of a blur.
[915] When was Halloween?
[916] Yeah, I think we...
[917] That was this last weekend.
[918] I finished Costume Quest this past weekend.
[919] Hey.
[920] Brad, did you finish Costume Quest?
[921] I'm going to play it next weekend.
[922] Screw you guys.
[923] I have a copy of it that I have not played also.
[924] No, I did play it around Christmas.
[925] I bought it on Halloween, but I have not played it.
[926] That's a cute little game.
[927] I will.
[928] On Saturday, I...
[929] It's adorable.
[930] It is.
[931] It's cute.
[932] It's cute.
[933] It's quick.
[934] It's my first RPG.
[935] It's very simple as far as the combat goes.
[936] There's not...
[937] Not a huge amount to that game, and that's an easy S -Rank, as Vinny had said previously.
[938] Oh, yeah.
[939] We're real close to having S -Rank stuff back together, by the way.
[940] Oh, awesome.
[941] Yeah, all the achievement stuff was seriously broken after they did that Xbox .com redesign.
[942] And they not only redesigned it, they changed stuff.
[943] They changed some stuff, yeah.
[944] So the data available to us is different now, unfortunately.
[945] It was a real achievement drought on the Internet.
[946] Yeah.
[947] It wasn't just us.
[948] It was everybody.
[949] Yeah, yeah, exactly.
[950] Everybody lost their feet.
[951] Yeah, the important stuff, the achievement -specific stuff broke for everybody.
[952] Achievement famine.
[953] So everyone had to go employ engineering to fix it.
[954] So Andy's been working on that stuff.
[955] been up since the weekend i guess uh is when he turned it on and uh we've been basically had to recreate a whole lot of stuff just in time for my s rank but yeah so yeah if you're on the site and wondering why your achievement rarities are wrong and why your s ranks aren't counting for anything and blah blah blah it's because that stuff's all in flux and will be for probably another week or so until it all kind of settles down blame connect that's what i do Super Meat Boy is what I played more of.
[956] Oh!
[957] Remember that one?
[958] No, I still haven't played it.
[959] What?
[960] I still haven't played it.
[961] None?
[962] I haven't played any of it.
[963] I'm in hell, Brad.
[964] Brad hasn't played any Costume Quest.
[965] Don't yell at me. I bought the soundtrack.
[966] Yeah, it's great.
[967] Shout out for the soundtrack.
[968] Yeah, shout out to Danny B. I bought the flack.
[969] Did you?
[970] Oh, yeah.
[971] You piece of shit.
[972] Hell, yeah.
[973] 800 gigs.
[974] 600 megabytes of Super Meat Boy soundtrack.
[975] What are you going to play that on?
[976] I don't know.
[977] Are you going to rip it to MP3?
[978] Actually, Vinny just gave me his MP3s.
[979] I bought the MP3s, he bought the flax, and then we traded.
[980] You fucking pirates.
[981] You assholes.
[982] That's not how it works.
[983] What are you talking about?
[984] We are contributing as much money as we can.
[985] I just...
[986] Really, how much did you choose to play?
[987] I think I paid $20.
[988] Oh, yeah?
[989] Good for you.
[990] That shit's good.
[991] Yeah, and there's a lot of it, too.
[992] Maybe it was $15.
[993] $15 or $20.
[994] It was $4, wasn't it?
[995] $0 .99.
[996] $3 .99 was the bare minimum, and that's what you paid.
[997] I think that was how little you paid.
[998] It was at least $15.
[999] I can't remember if it was $20 or $15.
[1000] If they were taking cash, it would have been $20.
[1001] How much did you get to NPR?
[1002] Honestly.
[1003] I donated.
[1004] I don't doubt it.
[1005] You look like it.
[1006] I gave some money to the Masons.
[1007] What?
[1008] Last week.
[1009] Like the Freemasons?
[1010] Yeah.
[1011] Oh, were they going to kill you?
[1012] No. These girls came by and they wanted money for the Rainbow Girls.
[1013] And I said, sure.
[1014] And gave them some money and had to sign a little thing.
[1015] So my name's on a list somewhere.
[1016] And I was like, and then I closed the door.
[1017] So I was expecting pizza.
[1018] So I opened the door.
[1019] You're like, hey.
[1020] There's money in your hand.
[1021] Just like.
[1022] Kind of, yeah.
[1023] I was like.
[1024] Sure, sure.
[1025] You caught me in a weird time.
[1026] Here, have some money for whatever your thing is.
[1027] And I went and looked it up.
[1028] And it's like they have a question and answers.
[1029] It's like International Order of the Rainbow or some fucking shit like that.
[1030] And they're like, are you a Masonic organization?
[1031] And I was like, well, and the answer, I think it says like.
[1032] Yes and no. We used to be affiliate, but no longer.
[1033] Now it's open to all girls.
[1034] Interesting.
[1035] And the next one is like, do you have private meetings?
[1036] It's like, yes, it's true that some meetings are for members only, but obviously parents can attend if they choose.
[1037] What do they do?
[1038] I have no idea.
[1039] Oh, man. It's just like brownies, but not.
[1040] So Rainbow Girls, are you going to get a phone call when the apocalypse comes?
[1041] You're on the list.
[1042] Yeah, I hope so.
[1043] Come to the bunker.
[1044] No, yeah.
[1045] If this gets me in, do they show up and teach me the handshake later?
[1046] Do I go to the temple and get my fez?
[1047] Where does this go?
[1048] Where do we go to get a square deal?
[1049] Exactly.
[1050] I'm just looking for a square deal.
[1051] Tools.
[1052] Tools.
[1053] So we got Meat Boy, and then I feel like I had to buy something else.
[1054] Hey, did you get your Amazon thing for Dead Rising 2?
[1055] That was like, well, this is fucked up.
[1056] I did.
[1057] I did, in fact, get an email yesterday from Amazon saying, all right, look, now I know.
[1058] You guys, you bought Dead Rising 2 from us.
[1059] We've talked about this before.
[1060] We've gone over this.
[1061] I know I said I'm sorry.
[1062] So for Dead Rising 2, for those who don't know, for Dead Rising 2, pre -order bonus through Amazon was there was for your avatar on the 360, you got Chuck Green outfit plus you got the serve bot helmet head thing, which I'm like, okay.
[1063] Cool, right?
[1064] I was probably going to buy this game anyways.
[1065] I want the serve bot head done.
[1066] You got my money.
[1067] Amazon.
[1068] I was probably going to buy it through Amazon anyways.
[1069] Then like a week later.
[1070] So this was like the cherry on the top.
[1071] So like maybe a week or two later, you get an email from Amazon being like, so Capcom hasn't given us the stuff yet, and we're sorry about that, so here's like a $10 credit for another game.
[1072] I'm like, hey, cool.
[1073] And also Amazon throws those things out like constantly.
[1074] I think I got Fable 3 for $30 or something like that.
[1075] Yeah, I've got like $40 worth of those just sitting around.
[1076] They're like, you bought a game.
[1077] Here's another $20.
[1078] Like, oh, sure.
[1079] Yeah, they throw out $10 credits.
[1080] Like, I bought New Vegas through them.
[1081] Still unopened.
[1082] But they're like, yeah, you did that.
[1083] And it was like a day later.
[1084] Like, hey, you bought a game.
[1085] Here's $10.
[1086] Cool.
[1087] I'm like, all right, fine.
[1088] I'll buy from you again.
[1089] So we got that like a week after and then yesterday.
[1090] So we were like, look, we're sorry, guys.
[1091] But we hear the sigh.
[1092] We know we can't.
[1093] This whole thing is fucked.
[1094] We know.
[1095] We know it's fucked.
[1096] So...
[1097] How do you feel about Marvel vs. Capcom 3?
[1098] We'll just give that to you for 50 % off.
[1099] Here's a code, 50 % off Marvel vs. Capcom 3, because we don't know if Capcom's ever going to give us goddamn codes for this Avatar thing.
[1100] Yeah, this is why Inofune left.
[1101] When he learned that they were unable to reproduce his jacket in Sir Bothead, he was like, I'm fucking out of here.
[1102] Fuck you guys.
[1103] Just weird.
[1104] I kind of feel weird.
[1105] I was talking about the Japanese game market.
[1106] This is what I was talking about.
[1107] No follow -through.
[1108] You said we were going to make the helmet.
[1109] Make the fucking helmet.
[1110] I just hope I keep getting emails from Amazon that are like.
[1111] It's just this drawn out thing.
[1112] All right, so they said that we're going to get it this time.
[1113] Listen, my friend's coming over.
[1114] He's going to bring you some cake.
[1115] He's real sorry.
[1116] He's a nice guy.
[1117] I mean, I get it.
[1118] It's like, okay, it's another Capcom published game, but I don't know.
[1119] I wonder if they had to go to Capcom and go, you guys got to make good on this.
[1120] Like, what the fuck?
[1121] And they said, well, give them half off Capcom.
[1122] We did it.
[1123] We did it.
[1124] Then they changed the whole data.
[1125] All the avatars are different.
[1126] We don't have the time to make those dudes together.
[1127] I don't know.
[1128] Does he like fighting games?
[1129] Yeah, I don't know that for me necessarily the crossover.
[1130] I think Amazon has been generous in all this, but I'm like, That's not really what I wanted, but I get that you're kind of in a position here.
[1131] Sorry.
[1132] I just feel bad for reading that email.
[1133] Okay, that's nice of you guys.
[1134] Thanks.
[1135] That game doesn't even have a solid release date, right?
[1136] Marvel?
[1137] Yeah.
[1138] It does not.
[1139] It's like spring or something.
[1140] I was confused when I saw it.
[1141] I was like, oh, can I use this now?
[1142] Buy it?
[1143] Yeah, yeah.
[1144] Pre -order it.
[1145] Pre -order it, yeah, yeah.
[1146] And they'll adjust your price to whatever the actual price is once it comes out.
[1147] Drop the send.
[1148] Which, yeah, no, I totally had for Dead Rising 2.
[1149] They sent me like four pennies.
[1150] They're like, the price went down this much more.
[1151] We promised you.
[1152] And we said you'd get the lowest price.
[1153] So, yeah, I didn't touch Fallout.
[1154] Weird triage is going on with my game collection right now.
[1155] I want you to know.
[1156] I read some very angry emails from people upset with you for cheating your way through new videos.
[1157] Oh, and the NeoGAF thread, too.
[1158] People were furious.
[1159] Like, fuck you guys.
[1160] Who the fuck do you, like, what the fuck do you care?
[1161] Go fuck yourself.
[1162] Seriously.
[1163] Try and tell someone else how to fucking play a game.
[1164] I read those.
[1165] I mean, whatever.
[1166] That is like, I totally understand it.
[1167] Yeah, I am 100 % cheating.
[1168] The part that I...
[1169] But to be like that there is a fucking right or wrong, like, you're not really playing, it's like, no, fuck off.
[1170] More to the point, how the fuck does it impact their experience with the game for him to enjoy it however he wants?
[1171] Oh, I don't take it personally.
[1172] It's totally the...
[1173] Some people, that is their game that they will be playing for the rest of the...
[1174] season that is their holiday game that they will go back and spend you know 200 hours in sure uh i just i don't have that kind of time and i want to like when you lock story stuff behind walls for me it becomes a bummer and you know like whatever i played through mass effect uh two twice one again played through fable two two times like i'm willing to put that time in but if you give me the option if you tell me that like you can punch in this code and see everything right now I don't know.
[1175] I might do it.
[1176] I hate lockpicking.
[1177] I think lockpicking is stupid in role -playing games.
[1178] I understand that you can spec a character to be a lock.
[1179] I hated it in Dragon Age 2.
[1180] It was the only reason to bring a rogue around with you because he was like a skeleton key.
[1181] It was like...
[1182] Let me bash it.
[1183] If I am strong enough, I should.
[1184] I want to see all the stuff.
[1185] I want to read what's on the computer terminals.
[1186] I want to see what's behind the doors.
[1187] I want to see the world.
[1188] I want to read all the fiction and stuff.
[1189] Yeah, and I can't.
[1190] So having to spec in one way or the other or, you know, it's like to create a viable character, there's some stuff you're not going to be able to see.
[1191] So it's natural that you would want to just go, well, fuck it.
[1192] If I can see it, I'm going to see it.
[1193] And it seems like there's some stuff in Fable New Vegas.
[1194] That'd be a game.
[1195] Probably Crash List.
[1196] I don't know about that.
[1197] Where I do feel like they have given players the option now to use one of many skills to see that content.
[1198] You can get through it with a science check or repair check.
[1199] Or sometimes a lockpick check or a medical check.
[1200] But sometimes they don't.
[1201] Sometimes the door is just fucking locked and that's it.
[1202] I can't hack into it with a terminal that's over here and I'm never going to see that content.
[1203] And also, fuck you because now I put my money into science repair and you're telling me that I have both options at this one place?
[1204] If you're telling me that using a code to lock, make a door is wrong.
[1205] It's wrong that I dumped points into split the points on both so I can make sure I have both.
[1206] Now you're giving me either option, but now they're both half of what they should be.
[1207] That's kind of messed up.
[1208] Yeah.
[1209] Philosophically speaking, by including a functional developer console in the game, Bethesda is.
[1210] Bethesda clearly doesn't give a fuck about how you play that game.
[1211] Bethesda is stating this is a viable way to play our game.
[1212] When you contacted them about that way you could just unlock all the achievements last time, they were like, yeah, there's a lot of stuff you can do.
[1213] It's clear that they don't fucking care.
[1214] Console's awesome.
[1215] Get past our shitty mini -games for lockpicking.
[1216] By the logic that some people were throwing out there, you shouldn't be allowed to mod games at that point.
[1217] They're just like, well...
[1218] If you brightened up your Pip -Boy flashlight or raised your weight limit, then fuck you.
[1219] You're also part of the problem.
[1220] There is no problem.
[1221] It's not like you're fucking wall -hacking Counter -Strike.
[1222] You are in your own little sandbox -y world saying, I'm going to run through these walls because fuck it.
[1223] You're not hurting anybody but yourself.
[1224] Here's the thing.
[1225] I'm never going to see that stuff.
[1226] I just finished playing Fallout 3 not that long ago on the 360, played by all the rules, went through all that content.
[1227] So it's pretty soon to be jumping back into New Vegas.
[1228] I'm like, man, I'm real glad I can bypass some stuff because otherwise I would be burnt out already just trying to play through that game like I just did Fallout 3.
[1229] And I would never see that stuff.
[1230] Yeah, there's a ton of stuff that I'll never see.
[1231] I'm probably never going to play that game again.
[1232] Right, and that's a bummer because that game, more than anything, more, I think, than specking out your character and role -playing that character and being like, I'm a master thief.
[1233] I pick locks.
[1234] Is all the hours of content that they have put into that game.
[1235] The combat's not that great.
[1236] Some of the controls are weird.
[1237] But the content they put in it and the narrative and stuff like that is...
[1238] What's worth seeing in that game?
[1239] Storytelling the quest concepts.
[1240] That's the stuff.
[1241] That's what I want to see.
[1242] And if it's behind a door that I would never see because I'm not going back to that town, if I ever get 100 points in lockpicking.
[1243] For me, it's not the end of the world, but for me it was kind of the frustrating thing about the way that the late game stuff happens in that game.
[1244] They force you down a path earlier than I thought they would.
[1245] I was kind of keeping all the factions open for as long as I could.
[1246] and much earlier than i suspected that they would they shut off the others oh really you're doing oh like you're committed now yeah so you're just like oh it just pops up just like quest failed quest failed quest failed i'm like fuck you oh it was kind of a bummer um because there's like i wanted to see what the lines looked like for those other guys right and how those endings played out but now those those splits happen way earlier so there's a lot more stuff you're cut off from yeah so even if you had to save right kind of right at that point it's still pretty far back there's there's a lot more stuff you have to do to go to see that stuff through and see the ending so it's kind of i don't know yeah i guess it's cool because it gives them a chance to differentiate the the story more than they would normally if instead it was just like you know oh you did this now here's the ending then You know, that's a little cheap, I guess, too.
[1247] They announced DLC for that already?
[1248] Yeah, they're doing it.
[1249] But that's, yeah, they didn't say what it would be.
[1250] I can understand.
[1251] Holiday.
[1252] I can understand why people get mad at a lot of things.
[1253] I guess so.
[1254] But still, fuck them.
[1255] If, you know, people are mad at kind of devaluing some of the role -playing choices in a game, I totally get that.
[1256] But, like, that's the role I'm playing.
[1257] Cheater.
[1258] You're playing the role of cheater.
[1259] Yeah.
[1260] You're excelling.
[1261] Good job.
[1262] Level five wasteland cheater.
[1263] Whatever.
[1264] Also, that game just looks like, not to knock it too much, but that game is just jank.
[1265] It just invites.
[1266] I don't think you're knocking it too much to say that this game has some technical issues.
[1267] Well, just like, you know what?
[1268] It doesn't even seem like I'm breaking the fiction by cheating and clipping through a wall.
[1269] That probably would have happened anyway.
[1270] All these NPCs were going to do that.
[1271] I was going to wind up inside this mountain anyway.
[1272] Were you going to say something else on Super Meat Boy?
[1273] That game's awesome.
[1274] Great.
[1275] I'm in hell.
[1276] How far away am I?
[1277] I saw a lot of forum activity about hell.
[1278] Oh, that's World 4?
[1279] Yeah, I think I'm getting clearing in.
[1280] I can't get bandages.
[1281] There's a world five.
[1282] You just gave up on bandages.
[1283] Yeah, bandages are for bozos.
[1284] I'm not sure about this.
[1285] I think you can get all the characters from warp zones as well as by buying with bandages.
[1286] I might be completely wrong about that.
[1287] At some point I got it because at first it makes it look like you need 50 bandages to buy this character.
[1288] I think they might be different.
[1289] Do you think they're split?
[1290] Because I don't think the guy is on my list.
[1291] The kid?
[1292] Whatchamacallit?
[1293] I Want to Be the Guy.
[1294] I Want to Be the Guy.
[1295] You might be right.
[1296] I'm not sure.
[1297] The kid from The Guy?
[1298] The kid from I Want to Be the Guy.
[1299] He's not yet the guy.
[1300] By the time I finished all the Light Worlds and beat the End of Boss, I mean, you saw me do it.
[1301] I felt like I had done all I could do with that game.
[1302] You didn't go back and do Dark Worlds, right?
[1303] I would never go back and get all those characters and finish all the Dark Worlds stuff.
[1304] I can't even beat all the Light World levels to par.
[1305] Yeah, I gave up on the A+.
[1306] It's so goddamn hard.
[1307] But, yeah, that game is pretty fun.
[1308] It is.
[1309] It messed up.
[1310] Yes.
[1311] You're right.
[1312] You're right about those things.
[1313] Anything else, Whitney Caravella?
[1314] No, I'm sorry.
[1315] I think that's it.
[1316] Jeff Gershman.
[1317] Hi.
[1318] What have you been playing that you can talk about?
[1319] Fable.
[1320] Fable.
[1321] And Bloodstone.
[1322] Bloodstone.
[1323] James Bond's 007's Bloodstone.
[1324] 007's James Bond colon Bloodstone.
[1325] The movie.
[1326] Never the movie.
[1327] The video game.
[1328] The video game based on the movie.
[1329] Starring Nicole Scherzinger or whatever.
[1330] Yeah, no. Starring Joss Stone.
[1331] No, Nicole Scherzinger.
[1332] No, Joss Stone just did the song.
[1333] No, they just put out a press release.
[1334] Actually, that's not for Bloodshot.
[1335] Was that for Goldeneye?
[1336] That's for Goldeneye.
[1337] Oh, you're right.
[1338] I'm sorry.
[1339] She re -recorded the Tina Turner song from Goldeneye.
[1340] Too many James Bond games coming out.
[1341] Yeah.
[1342] What is going on?
[1343] What is the James Bond madness?
[1344] Activision is dumping all of their James Bond games out right now.
[1345] Today.
[1346] Today.
[1347] Is there some kind of media blitz?
[1348] No. There's no movie.
[1349] There's no movie.
[1350] No, like the movie got canned.
[1351] The movie was in pre -production or something.
[1352] It's like indefinitely postponed.
[1353] There's no anniversary we're missing?
[1354] Is it 25 years of Bond?
[1355] This is we got the license and then the movie guys fucked up and canceled the movie.
[1356] Oh, God.
[1357] We got to do something with this goddamn license.
[1358] Let's just create marketplace confusion and put out Bond.
[1359] Well, they don't.
[1360] There's no platform crossover.
[1361] There's really no confusion.
[1362] Let's just bond across.
[1363] If you want a Bond game, unless you own all platforms, there's no choice.
[1364] There's either you're getting Bloodstone or 360 or PS3 or you're getting GoldenEye on the Wii.
[1365] Okay.
[1366] So far from what I've played of both, I would recommend GoldenEye on the Wii.
[1367] All Daniel Craig, right?
[1368] If you're choosing between the two.
[1369] Yes, all Daniel Craig, all kind of modern Bond stuff.
[1370] They went and reworked GoldenEye to...
[1371] Retell it as a Daniel Craig style Bond story.
[1372] So he hits more guys in the face.
[1373] He hits more guys in the face.
[1374] I don't know.
[1375] That's craggy.
[1376] Get more Cro -Magnon -y.
[1377] And then they updated the gameplay to make it play more like Call of Duty.
[1378] So kind of victory all around on that as far as I'm concerned.
[1379] In the multiplayer, I remember it's a little swimmy with the gun.
[1380] Still leading your turns a little bit, right?
[1381] Yeah.
[1382] I think you can choose your control.
[1383] Futs with it a little bit or something.
[1384] Bloodstone is a third -person cover -based shooter and a driving game.
[1385] That's similar to that other Bond they put out, right?
[1386] Brad, we went to that event that time.
[1387] That was Quantum of Solace.
[1388] And that was third -person cover -based, right?
[1389] No, it was first -person.
[1390] That would go to third -person.
[1391] When you enter cover, pop out to third.
[1392] That was a Treyarch game.
[1393] And now this is...
[1394] It was, wasn't it?
[1395] It was.
[1396] Right, yes.
[1397] This is a Bizarre Creations game.
[1398] That was their first.
[1399] I think that was Treyarch's first game with marketplace confusion.
[1400] What's interesting?
[1401] Everything.
[1402] That was before World War.
[1403] Treyarch.
[1404] Blood Blood.
[1405] I think.
[1406] I think it was after.
[1407] And then there's Call of Duty.
[1408] There's no Blood Blood.
[1409] That's not a thing.
[1410] That's a Japanese shooter.
[1411] Treyarch Blood.
[1412] Blood Bowl.
[1413] Blood Drive.
[1414] And Kidney Stones.
[1415] There's Blood Drive.
[1416] That is out this week.
[1417] Also from Activision.
[1418] Supposedly.
[1419] So also being dumped onto the market by Activision.
[1420] How's the driving?
[1421] Frustrating as hell.
[1422] It looks really nice.
[1423] I like the look of the driving.
[1424] The driving feels pretty well.
[1425] Giant dump truck.
[1426] Yeah, I was chasing a dump truck there.
[1427] So basically, because these are the driving, these are the Project Gotham people, the Blur people, it feels like at some point they told the writer, it's like, we know how to make driving really well, so work as many car chases as possible as you can.
[1428] I'm probably like two -thirds of the way through the game.
[1429] I've already been to like four car chases, and they're all just kind of like dumb.
[1430] Like set piece?
[1431] Yeah, everything is exploding around you, which basically means you can't stop for too long because you will lose the thing you're chasing or you'll get shot up or whatever it is.
[1432] It's not like open world.
[1433] No, no, no, no. It's a track.
[1434] So the level I was playing yesterday, which is probably the most frustrating part of the game so far, is I'm chasing a train.
[1435] I'm being chased by a helicopter.
[1436] And I am driving on ice.
[1437] So the helicopter is shooting the ice, turning it into water around me kind of.
[1438] So it's kind of forming a very specific track.
[1439] If you fall into the water, you die.
[1440] And every time you die, it does the stupid blood down the camera thing, which takes forever.
[1441] And then loads up a menu that asks you if you want to continue instead of just like loading right back into the game like modern video games do.
[1442] Like Super Meat Boy.
[1443] Right.
[1444] So.
[1445] I probably died like 15 times on this one checkpoint.
[1446] And it just became the most frustrating thing because every time it would load up and it would just be like, you know, get your head down.
[1447] Okay.
[1448] Drive.
[1449] Spin out of road.
[1450] Crash into water.
[1451] Get your head down.
[1452] Okay.
[1453] Drive.
[1454] Crash.
[1455] Like cut the corner a little too close.
[1456] End up crashing on a barrier.
[1457] Shot up by helicopter.
[1458] Blood.
[1459] Menu.
[1460] Restart.
[1461] Get your head down.
[1462] off.
[1463] Does it do the...
[1464] Not quite.
[1465] If you did one more note, we were going to have to pay for that.
[1466] Just so you know.
[1467] Right up to the line.
[1468] The third person shooting is...
[1469] The whole game is fine.
[1470] This game is fine.
[1471] But it's fine in a very middling, mediocre way.
[1472] The shooting is...
[1473] stupid easy like you when you left trigger to like kind of aim down the sights or zoom in on a guy it almost always just aims right at his head so it's just like pop pop just left right on the triggers and a guy's dead if it doesn't it hits him in the chest then you just hit the trigger again or he's an agent man down for a little while or miss if you feather the trick yeah i mean contextually like fictionally it makes total sense obviously he's like trained he's a james bond he's a double oh yeah he's he's pretty good at shooting guys so he's got a license for that yeah yeah but from a gameplay perspective it's just like it's just kind of boring uh the and the other thing is it's got a it's got a bad case of like uh batmanitis batmania whatever you want to call it it's basically like you push down on the d -pad to stare at your cell phone and that brings up waypoints and hidden items that you can scan and locations of all the enemies.
[1474] I saw that when you were doing that, like detective vision.
[1475] Yeah, so it's basically the detective.
[1476] So the upshot of that is you spend all your time in that mode.
[1477] So it's always a little fuzzy, a little crappy looking because of that.
[1478] And also he stares at his cell phone the whole time.
[1479] So it just looks like Daniel Craig is just like, this is so funny.
[1480] I'm just going to look at Twitter.
[1481] Like, fuck this.
[1482] What's going on in the world?
[1483] Checking in.
[1484] Checking out Foursquare.
[1485] It's like, I'm at the refinery.
[1486] I'm on this attack hovercraft pushing cargo out the back.
[1487] God damn it.
[1488] Buns got me again.
[1489] Who fucking called?
[1490] I don't know that number.
[1491] We need to go to the refinery.
[1492] He's the mayor.
[1493] I'm the mayor of this evil construction site.
[1494] I'm in Russia with five others.
[1495] Do like just completely disinterested.
[1496] And he's literally just like staring down at it.
[1497] You're behind cover.
[1498] There are guys shooting at you and he's just staring at his phone.
[1499] Because they're behind walls and you want to see the icons of where they're standing and wait for them to get up close.
[1500] So you're always in that vision mode.
[1501] And it pops you out of that vision mode every time you aim.
[1502] So every time you aim and shoot someone, you have to push down on the D -pad again.
[1503] And he goes, I'll get my phone out.
[1504] Or any time he climbs a ladder or anything like that.
[1505] That's right.
[1506] Bond should have better technology, some eyepiece or something.
[1507] Yeah, basically.
[1508] So it's just kind of – It's all got to be – but he's a secret spy.
[1509] He can't be like a – he's got to have it like – No, like a contact or something.
[1510] Okay, yeah, sure.
[1511] That's too future for James Bond.
[1512] So, yeah.
[1513] It's got to be some sort of Sony Ericsson product.
[1514] Sunglasses, yeah.
[1515] I think visually parts of the game look really nice.
[1516] And it's got multiplayer.
[1517] It probably didn't need that.
[1518] I'm just kind of thrilled to hear that it's a game.
[1519] Like, leading up to this, I feel like I had zero information about Bloodstone.
[1520] Like, they put out a billion trailers, but I'm like, none of these tell me really anything other than...
[1521] So I didn't watch any of those trailers.
[1522] Like, I literally knew nothing about the game at all other than, like, there's probably some driving in here somewhere.
[1523] And there's trailers, like, yeah, it's like there's a car and then there's an explosion and, like, you can't tell.
[1524] Like, maybe this is all just...
[1525] Driving and all this other stuff is the window dressing for that.
[1526] It's mostly, from what I've played so far, it's mostly a third -person shooter.
[1527] It's mostly incredibly simple.
[1528] Is it like 007's Bloodstone?
[1529] Bloodstone 007.
[1530] It's like 007 colon Bloodstone.
[1531] Okay.
[1532] No, the Xbox, like the short version of the name is 007.
[1533] 007 usually comes at the end.
[1534] That's not true at all.
[1535] For Gold Knight 007.
[1536] For Gold Knight, it does.
[1537] It was always like 007 colon Agent Under Fire.
[1538] Oh, that's true.
[1539] Just calling it Bloodstone is like, dude, it has not penetrated with me. I thought this was about diamonds.
[1540] Fantasy hack and slash game, like Dynasty Warrior style.
[1541] Oh, we're going to get Bloodstone.
[1542] Why do we care about Bloodstone?
[1543] Because Joss Stone is in it, and it's about diamonds.
[1544] It was written by Joss Whedon.
[1545] What?
[1546] And the soundtrack features Ja Rule.
[1547] What is going on?
[1548] Blood diamonds.
[1549] Oh, no. Leonardo DiCaprio.
[1550] Shit.
[1551] Digimon Honsu.
[1552] No. Actually, it doesn't have anything to do with actual blood diamonds.
[1553] At least it hasn't.
[1554] I assumed it hasn't yet.
[1555] I assumed like Diamonds Are Forever had to do with a diamond -powered space satellite.
[1556] Yeah.
[1557] Am I pretty close?
[1558] And Moonrakers were bad leaves.
[1559] Never saw Moonraker.
[1560] What?
[1561] It's a bad one.
[1562] I don't like Roger Moore at all.
[1563] And I can't watch any Roger Moore or James Bond movies.
[1564] Man, that is some good stuff.
[1565] Cannot watch them.
[1566] I think just because of the era in which I started watching movies and television, Roger Moore totally is James Bond to me. You should check out Moonraker because there are some awesome special effects.
[1567] Quote, special effects in that one.
[1568] I've seen Octopussy and...
[1569] Is that the one where he drives the car out of the ocean onto the beach?
[1570] No, that was a Pierce Brosnan one.
[1571] Was it?
[1572] Well, a scene like that happens in one of the Pierce Brosnan ones.
[1573] Okay.
[1574] James Bond movies are fucking stupid.
[1575] I just want to say that right here.
[1576] Kind of like they always have been.
[1577] I have some affection for the Sean Connery ones, some of the Sean Connery ones.
[1578] But if they made Sean Connery ones now, it would have to be like a point -and -click adventure.
[1579] I mean, he does like a role.
[1580] They did.
[1581] They made from Russia with Love.
[1582] With Sean Connery.
[1583] He made a shooter.
[1584] Yeah.
[1585] Like that era of EA, James Bond games.
[1586] He doesn't really fight.
[1587] He just kind of karate chops a dude on the back.
[1588] I don't know what you're talking about, man. He was shooting people in the head all up and down.
[1589] Level two.
[1590] He just sleeps with dudes.
[1591] Jeff, anything else you want to talk about?
[1592] No. Brad Shoemaker.
[1593] Hello.
[1594] Let's talk.
[1595] Okay.
[1596] Let's jam.
[1597] What were we rapping about?
[1598] Video games.
[1599] Oh, yeah?
[1600] Oh, Pinball Effects 2 came out.
[1601] Okay.
[1602] Did you play any of that?
[1603] Yeah.
[1604] I played some Jackal, too.
[1605] I saw that.
[1606] Sorry.
[1607] Okay.
[1608] Sorry to totally derail it.
[1609] No, no. I don't think Brad had anything.
[1610] I do.
[1611] It's kind of, I don't know.
[1612] It's cool.
[1613] So it's like a free download, but if you want the new tables, it's actually $10.
[1614] It'll import your PinballFX 1 tables if you bought that.
[1615] So if you don't have any PinballFX 1 tables and you haven't bought anything, you download PinballFX 2, you have nothing.
[1616] Right.
[1617] Got it.
[1618] You can demo all the tables or something.
[1619] Oh, okay.
[1620] It also imports all the DLC from the first game as well.
[1621] So if you have that awful Street Fighter 2 table, you can still play it.
[1622] They say they redid the physics and stuff like that, but I don't know.
[1623] The ball still feels a little light to me. So how does it weigh in in virtual pinball land?
[1624] I think it's good.
[1625] I don't know.
[1626] The tables that they made for this one are definitely better than the ones they made last time.
[1627] They made Extreme, which just felt like a ripoff of Black Knight.
[1628] in a lot of ways, like design -wise.
[1629] It was like a mirror image of Black Knight in some spots.
[1630] Yeah, I don't know.
[1631] It's cool.
[1632] But they do a lot of really cool stuff around the games in terms of just combining leaderboards across all tables.
[1633] So there's the wizard score, the super score.
[1634] If you have more friends that play the game, your wizard score becomes higher, but the super score is how many millions of points you have in high scores across all tables.
[1635] So they kind of have a combined high score leaderboard for everything they put out, which is kind of neat.
[1636] Speaking of which, I love that in Fable 3.
[1637] Oh, the little pop -ups?
[1638] The little pop -ups.
[1639] I think those are...
[1640] The loads?
[1641] No, no, no. One game.
[1642] Like how much money you got?
[1643] So you were playing it before it was out, so you probably didn't have a bunch of people on your friends list that are playing the game.
[1644] Yeah, that stuff, they actually patched that in on release date.
[1645] I saw none.
[1646] Yeah, it constantly pops up, like, you know, your longest handhold or how long you've been playing the game compared to someone else, like, as you're passing them on the leaderboard of furthest chicken kick.
[1647] Like, while you're actually running around in the world?
[1648] Yeah.
[1649] That sucks.
[1650] That would have been cool.
[1651] It is, but it's weird because it has this adverse effect of, like, I'm about to beat this person's handholding record.
[1652] Let's keep going.
[1653] Like, I was not going to keep holding hands with this lady, but let's do some laps.
[1654] That's exactly what it did to me, too.
[1655] I'm just going to keep going.
[1656] Yeah, it does weird things to the way I play the game, but I like it.
[1657] I think it's a good idea.
[1658] We've seen Rock Band, Guitar Hero, they do things like that.
[1659] DJ Hero has that same thing where it's like the bar that kind of rises up.
[1660] DJ Hero 2, I think, does it really well.
[1661] I think Shadow Complex, one of the...
[1662] But putting it in that context, yeah, I guess Shadow Complex did the same thing, but I like it in Fable 2, 3.
[1663] Yeah, it's fun.
[1664] They have Tree.
[1665] Brad Shoemaker.
[1666] Hello.
[1667] What do you got?
[1668] Star Wars The Force Unleashed Part II is a weird, weird game.
[1669] Yeah?
[1670] How so?
[1671] Well, the first one ended with, like, okay, spoilers.
[1672] So the first one ended with, like, dude dying.
[1673] Well, it ended two ways, and they said the one where dude dies, because obviously the one where you kill...
[1674] He kind of died either way.
[1675] Darth Vader dies, can't really work.
[1676] Well, there was the one where he becomes the new Darth Vader.
[1677] Yeah, they put him in a robot suit.
[1678] Like, that's just no way canon at all.
[1679] Totally dumb.
[1680] The other way is slightly less dumb.
[1681] Still dumb.
[1682] That's not why this is weird.
[1683] They didn't really send this game out to press so much before it came out.
[1684] And then we bought it.
[1685] I played it.
[1686] And I kind of figured out why.
[1687] I want to say it feels unfinished.
[1688] It wasn't that they didn't send it out to everybody.
[1689] So I was around a lot of people who write about video games last week.
[1690] And it was a good time for everyone to sit down and compare notes about who's got Kinect and who doesn't and who's got Star Wars and who doesn't.
[1691] So it was very easy to figure out.
[1692] Basically, it seems like they were trying to min -max early review scores for Star Wars.
[1693] Totally, that's what it seems like.
[1694] If I had to guess after talking to people about who got it and who didn't.
[1695] Yeah, and having played it now, I understand why, because it's just super basic.
[1696] I don't want to say it necessarily feels unfinished, because it's a complete game.
[1697] Like, by the numbers?
[1698] It's super by the numbers, and it just feels incredibly limited in scope.
[1699] There's basically three locations for the entire game.
[1700] It's like ten levels, but they're all super short.
[1701] I inadvertently played through half of the levels on the level select screen without even realizing it.
[1702] I figured I was just getting started in the game, and I looked at the level select.
[1703] I was like, wait, that was half the game?
[1704] It was like the levels in the back half are a little bit longer, but there's like six types of enemies in the whole game.
[1705] There's probably like six quick time events that you just do over and over and over.
[1706] I've seen you fight those AT -STs a lot.
[1707] Yeah, those things pop up all the time.
[1708] There were a lot of those in the first game, though, too.
[1709] Well, I mean, that's like an iconic Star Wars enemy, so of course those are going to be in there.
[1710] Not in that kind of quantity.
[1711] Did you find a Wookiee?
[1712] No, no Wookiees.
[1713] I don't know.
[1714] I played for maybe 15 minutes past the part where you play as Darth Vader in the first one.
[1715] I mean, the first one at least felt like they had the ambition to make a really broad...
[1716] kind of epic action game yeah the first one was like underwhelming in a lot of ways but there was a good foundation there for for something else like this absolutely does not powers and stuff you're like oh you know if put into a like a better game like this character these powers could be awesome totally yeah and then like they took the same powers and put it in an even more limited game yeah that's super linear like you're just running down a lot of corridors fighting the same guys over and over and over like not not much of an upgrade path for i mean you just basically kind of slightly upgrade the stuff you have Have you played Rancor?
[1717] No. How is the Ice Cube music?
[1718] Non -existent.
[1719] Yeah.
[1720] You've got to turn that on for yourself.
[1721] Maybe I should try that.
[1722] Do you even play as Darth Vader at all?
[1723] Nope.
[1724] He's in there a little bit.
[1725] Play as Luke?
[1726] Nope.
[1727] So they made a big deal about Yoda being in this game, right?
[1728] I remember you guys probably saw that trailer that came out.
[1729] That is the weirdest thing I have seen.
[1730] Was that supposed to be a big deal?
[1731] I mean, they put out a press release, like Yoda featured in Force Unleashed 2.
[1732] Well, it's a Star Wars game.
[1733] Of course, a fucking guy from Star Wars is going to be in.
[1734] Whoa.
[1735] He's been in Soul Calibur.
[1736] You want to tell me, like, Yoda is an unlockable skater in Tony Hawk.
[1737] I'll listen.
[1738] Whoa.
[1739] That's fucking really ridiculous.
[1740] So the dude hears the word Dagobah in a cutscene, and then he kind of, like, tilts his head back, and he goes, Dagobah?
[1741] Next thing you know, you land on Dagobah.
[1742] You run through the swamp for about three minutes, fight no enemies, trigger a cutscene out of nowhere where the first frame of the cutscene is Yoda standing there talking to you when he was not in the level at all.
[1743] Go through about three minutes of cutscene and then run back out to your ship.
[1744] Still fight no enemies, fly away from the planet, that's it.
[1745] That's the Yoda?
[1746] Yes, that is, unless, like I'm on the last level now, unless it pops back up at the end somehow.
[1747] But you go into the fucking secret crazy cave while you're in Dagobah, right?
[1748] Yeah, you do, but it's all CG.
[1749] You don't do anything in there.
[1750] It's just a cutscene.
[1751] Chop your own head off.
[1752] It's a pretty bad cutscene, too.
[1753] Man, I don't understand.
[1754] And this is, canon -wise, this is creeping in on episode four.
[1755] This is creeping in on real Star Wars.
[1756] Yeah, somewhere in between.
[1757] It just feels...
[1758] Who fucking cares?
[1759] I do.
[1760] I do, because it's weird seeing...
[1761] Boba Fett is in there.
[1762] Because it's such a weird mix of the new old stuff, you know, like the episode one, two technology that's in that game and then the kind of like cool stuff, you know, that is like Darth Vader -esque and old Stormtrooper stuff.
[1763] But, you know, that stuff was gone by the time Luke was running around.
[1764] So I'm waiting for that.
[1765] So you're just talking about like the transition of – This anachronism, this kind of like – yes.
[1766] You fight all these enemies that are like, like Sith warriors that each have two lightsabers and they can block all your lightsaber hits and all this stuff.
[1767] It's like, where were those guys?
[1768] I want somebody to write that story into one of those games.
[1769] And that's what I'm waiting for.
[1770] Like the force unleashed to be where you're the dude who runs through and basically eliminates all that shit that was in episode one, two, and three.
[1771] So that.
[1772] Episode four can take place.
[1773] Listen, you need to go and take care.
[1774] Yeah, all Star Wars fiction leading up to the first Star Wars movie, there's like thousands of Jedi and Sith running around.
[1775] Everyone has a lightsaber.
[1776] Well, if you read the expanded universe, how did we get down to – So that's what it was good about Force Unleashed 1 was like you kill all the Jedi.
[1777] It's like, okay, that makes sense.
[1778] You're just out there killing Jedi.
[1779] No more Jedi.
[1780] So now this one I was hoping, all right, now go out there, kill all those fucking robots, all those weird -looking ships, the mirrored stuff.
[1781] Just go wipe that off of the kind of slate so we can start Episode 4 proper.
[1782] But no. I don't think so.
[1783] Star Wars Aesthetics Warrior.
[1784] Yeah, exactly.
[1785] I mean, everything in this just looks like the original Star Wars movies.
[1786] Like, all the Stormtroopers look like Stormtroopers.
[1787] Like, we're there.
[1788] It's nothing but Star Destroyers.
[1789] Like, none of that weird stuff from prequels is showing up at all.
[1790] Well, some of the designs look a little tweaked.
[1791] Like, the AT -STs look a little...
[1792] Like, they have those weird cannon things on the side.
[1793] Well, they're, like, regular straight -up AT -STs, and then there's, like, weird little mini ones, like AT -MTs.
[1794] No, no, there's a full -size one that have, like, bigger cannons or something.
[1795] They have weird additions on the sides of the...
[1796] head.
[1797] Maybe.
[1798] I don't know.
[1799] So you're nearing the end there?
[1800] Yeah.
[1801] It's just such a weird...
[1802] It's just so by the numbers.
[1803] It's very straightforward and shallow.
[1804] There's just not much to it.
[1805] The core combat feels maybe a little better than the last one.
[1806] Maybe there wasn't a lot of incentive to really polish that one.
[1807] I don't know why they didn't put a lot of oomph in it.
[1808] There was not a lot of heart in here.
[1809] Yes.
[1810] What about...
[1811] They let go most of the development team, I think, after it was over.
[1812] No oomph, but what about Zazz?
[1813] Nah.
[1814] No Zazz?
[1815] Any Zip?
[1816] No. Any Zing?
[1817] No. And definitely no Pizzazz, because Zazz is a prerequisite.
[1818] Yeah, you've got to have the Zazz base before you can get into the more advanced Pizzazz.
[1819] Yes.
[1820] I will say one thing for you.
[1821] It looks really good.
[1822] It does look nice.
[1823] I remember the frame rate being really iffy in the last one.
[1824] and the controls and stuff, I just remember being kind of janky.
[1825] And is that, is that, am I misremembering that?
[1826] The controls are weird because it's like, you know, it's one of those like telekinetic kind of stuff.
[1827] Like they had all those, they had all this weird, they had all that weird middleware, like the digital, like the matter and like you could bend metal and all the euphoria and like the ragdoll stuff and everything.
[1828] I feel like that, I remember that stuff being kind of janky and like it didn't all fit together very well.
[1829] It felt like tech demo.
[1830] It did not fit together was the best part.
[1831] Exactly.
[1832] In this one, like that stuff all feels like it works really well.
[1833] It's like really nice frame rate, nice little motion blur effect.
[1834] Everything looks really sharp and moves well.
[1835] If they had really broadened the scope of this and put some more into the combat, it could have been pretty awesome.
[1836] You feel like you're just running into rooms and then there's a bunch of enemies and then you put all the enemies.
[1837] It's a bunch of stormtroopers and maybe one of those robots with the shields.
[1838] It's the hard philosophical question about making Star Wars games fun is...
[1839] How do you make a lightsaber?
[1840] Also, there's that, but that's the problem with every Star Wars game.
[1841] They all devalue the lightsaber to the point that it's just completely empty.
[1842] Just whacking on dudes.
[1843] I mean, you can't have a game where everything is one -hit kill, but at the same time, that's what that thing is.
[1844] So don't give them the damn lightsabers at the beginning.
[1845] That's why I like the first Dark Forces so much, because you're just a mercenary dude with a bunch of guns and grenades and stuff, and you run around and shoot guys.
[1846] Or like Shadows of the Empire.
[1847] Yeah.
[1848] But then even the second Dark Forces, they ruined it by saying, Actually, he was a Jedi.
[1849] He just forgot.
[1850] Here's a lightsaber.
[1851] Yeah.
[1852] Well, they realized actually everybody wants to be the Jedi.
[1853] Wait, was that Dash or was that Kyle Katarn?
[1854] Dash Rendarz.
[1855] Dash Rendarz.
[1856] Shadow's the Empire.
[1857] Oh, what's his ship's name?
[1858] Renegade?
[1859] Oh, God.
[1860] Like the cut rate Star Wars protagonist ship names are always so bad.
[1861] It's like your Han Solo knockoffs.
[1862] Like it's the rogue shadow in this one.
[1863] Yeah, I can't remember what it was in Shadows of the Empire.
[1864] I remember you were fighting Prince Shizor, though.
[1865] I like Shadows of the Empire.
[1866] Let's go dig up a copy of Shadows of the Empire and ruin Vinny's memories.
[1867] I didn't much care for that game.
[1868] There's no Hoth level.
[1869] There's no Hoth level.
[1870] I really liked it when it came out, but I've actually seen video of it.
[1871] It's not how I remember it.
[1872] I can remember.
[1873] I'm like...
[1874] That looked pretty bad.
[1875] Yeah.
[1876] Of course, I was also just looking at some original golden eye screenshots.
[1877] I was like, yeah.
[1878] Squares.
[1879] These guys are squares.
[1880] Textured squares.
[1881] This looks like Minecraft.
[1882] Yeah, it's a bummer.
[1883] I'm having fun running through it and just slashing and force -pushing everybody all over the place because the ragdoll is good and stuff.
[1884] Do enemies, do they still try and cling to each other if you're moving them around in the air?
[1885] No, not really.
[1886] I liked the stupidity of that.
[1887] It's not as absurd.
[1888] It works better and is consequently less stupid.
[1889] See, that's really...
[1890] It's good that they fixed it, but it's really tragic that the thing that seemed like it was all fucked up in the first one...
[1891] Like, they fixed that.
[1892] They get that.
[1893] The tech is better.
[1894] But then the actual game design is just...
[1895] Yeah, it's a shame.
[1896] You're not causing as much weird mayhem, happy accidents.
[1897] I did like the weird mayhem.
[1898] That was fun for a bit.
[1899] I'm just going to take this stormtrooper and just spit him in the air for a while.
[1900] Listen to him freak out.
[1901] Yeah, so I actually, as I got close to the end of this game, I went online and ordered a copy of the first game.
[1902] Oh, I had...
[1903] It was super cheap now.
[1904] Yeah, it was $10.
[1905] Not bad.
[1906] Did you play any Undead Nightmare?
[1907] No, just what we did in the quick look.
[1908] I played a bunch of Undead Nightmares.
[1909] That looks real good.
[1910] It's fun.
[1911] That looks good.
[1912] It's fun.
[1913] I loved what we did in the quick look.
[1914] I burned out.
[1915] I kind of don't want to finish it.
[1916] Does the story stop at some point?
[1917] It's not worth seeing what happens.
[1918] There's just kind of...
[1919] Does anything happen?
[1920] It's just a little draggy at a certain point.
[1921] But it's also...
[1922] Zombies are just the beginning.
[1923] Whoa.
[1924] Oh, well, yeah, they showed some stuff in the trailers of, like, zombie bears and stuff.
[1925] Well, no, no, I mean, like, zombification is just, like, one of the things that has gone fucking weird sideways.
[1926] Oh, wow.
[1927] They showed a screenshot of Sasquatch at one point.
[1928] Yeah, yeah.
[1929] Oh, man. It's an early mission, so not ruining too much, but you are out fucking hunting the last Sasquatch at one point in that game.
[1930] I have to play that.
[1931] I got two of the horses of the apocalypse.
[1932] You can find the mythical beasts out in the world, and you have to go and tame them, and then they have crazy.
[1933] I ran my regular horse off a cliff once.
[1934] Come back as an undead horse?
[1935] And whistled a bunch, and then an undead horse came back.
[1936] Oh, that's awesome.
[1937] Undead horses have crazy stats.
[1938] They're way faster and have better stamina.
[1939] Wait, so it became undead just because?
[1940] No, no, no. I think just because I was constantly whistling over and over again, and my regular horse was dead.
[1941] Yeah, because it died, right?
[1942] I don't believe this is that horse.
[1943] I believe the undead horse was attracted by my whistling.
[1944] Okay.
[1945] I think it's how the game explains it.
[1946] But it doesn't always listen to you.
[1947] Sometimes it will want to go in its own direction.
[1948] Oh, bummer.
[1949] That sounds awesome.
[1950] No, all that stuff is cool.
[1951] Like the other mythical kind of Halloween town shit that they start throwing into it is rad.
[1952] At a certain point, though, I just wish that it would pick up the pace with some of the...
[1953] So a lot of that game is – a lot of Undead Nightmare is the – you come into a town that is overrun by zombies and you have to go and like basically wipe out all of the zombies.
[1954] And you can go to like one of the survivors and they're usually like on a rooftop and they'll say, hey, we need rifle ammo or we need revolver ammo or we need some specific kind of ammo.
[1955] And there's like three caches of this ammo in town somewhere.
[1956] So it's like hop down off this roof.
[1957] brave the zombie hordes that are on the streets and try and grab these caches and then go back and give bullets to these different group survivors in town.
[1958] That will then kind of trigger an endgame of, all right, wipe out the last zombies that are in town, and then you will have cleansed the town.
[1959] They kind of pad out the length of it then.
[1960] So you're doing that in every single town.
[1961] And that's kind of like how you are pushing through stuff.
[1962] And towns can be retaken by zombies.
[1963] You saw some of that stuff in the quick look, like they were saying, in the graveyard.
[1964] But there's a lot of great return appearances by characters from Red Dead Redemption.
[1965] How do you get to this?
[1966] Is it like a separate menu?
[1967] Main menu, it is parallel reality.
[1968] Twilight Zone.
[1969] It's great because when you pick Undead Nightmare, all the menus that are red just turn a sickly green color.
[1970] It's like an undead version of the game.
[1971] It's very Monster Mash.
[1972] It's good.
[1973] It's all super cheesy.
[1974] Like, it's very self -aware cheesy.
[1975] Yeah, yeah.
[1976] It's funny.
[1977] It's funny.
[1978] I just, from what I saw...
[1979] And everything is always on fire, which I really enjoy.
[1980] Like, you go into any town, there's always just, like, random shit just burning.
[1981] I just like John Marston in that world.
[1982] Oh, yeah, because he's still straight shooter John Marston.
[1983] He's so detached about everything.
[1984] Well, his whole mission the entire game is, like, I've got to help my wife and my child.
[1985] They're still back at home.
[1986] I've got to figure out some way to help them.
[1987] But they're zombies.
[1988] And they have, so remember, like, all the crazy, like, roadside things that you would see happen, the unique events.
[1989] They've got a bunch of those that are zombie -specific.
[1990] New ones?
[1991] Oh, man. I have to play those.
[1992] He just seems like he's still the kind of, like, right down the middle like neither good nor bad like doesn't really give a shit who you are like like i don't care you're zombies sir get out of my way kind of like yeah just i love his like super deadpan delivery to everybody like the most horrific stuff is happening so at a certain point like they they kind of start trying to figure out like why are there zombies and as they actually start kind of Going down that path of figuring out what the possible cause is.
[1993] There's a couple of things that people are suspicious of.
[1994] I don't know.
[1995] It kind of starts losing its momentum when it starts following down that stuff.
[1996] But very strong start.
[1997] There's a lot of cool stuff in there.
[1998] It's $10 and it is long as shit.
[1999] Like I've played a bunch of it.
[2000] I just got into Mexico.
[2001] So I was going to ask, you pretty much roam the whole map, the whole game world?
[2002] Yeah, you're in the entire place, and there's a ton of stuff to do.
[2003] A lot of it is the same kind of stuff you were doing in Red Dead already, so it's not always...
[2004] If you have played a shitload of Red Dead recently, there's a chance that you could still use a little...
[2005] A little more cool down.
[2006] Okay.
[2007] You know, bringing your zombie horse into real Red Dead.
[2008] There are zombie -specific multiplayer games.
[2009] Okay.
[2010] But no, there's zero crossover between.
[2011] This is boot -up zombie world.
[2012] Yeah, when you come to the main menu and it's like you press start.
[2013] I'm going to go into multiplayer.
[2014] I'm going to go into single player.
[2015] You go into single player, it's like you play Red Dead or you can play Undead Nightmare.
[2016] Cool.
[2017] It's $10.
[2018] Yeah, I think it's neat.
[2019] I think it's fun.
[2020] I will play that costume quest this weekend.
[2021] I was going to say, I think now that...
[2022] You inspired me. You were like, you were hardcore about like, I'd have a Halloween weekend, get my Halloween gaming out of the way.
[2023] I'm like, fuck yeah.
[2024] Seasonal gaming.
[2025] Which is why I also played a bunch of DJ Hero 2.
[2026] Why do you think they call him Deadmau5?
[2027] His intro is cool.
[2028] Yeah.
[2029] The Deadmau5 intro is pretty neat in that game.
[2030] And headless.
[2031] So, you know.
[2032] Yeah, it's Halloween themed.
[2033] It's Halloween themed totally.
[2034] Absolutely.
[2035] Well, I was playing mostly as my avatar and I had my costume quest jack -o' -lantern pumpkin head thing on.
[2036] So I'm like, yeah, I'm bringing it.
[2037] I'm getting my Halloween on here.
[2038] And I don't know what they did.
[2039] Did you ever play with your avatar?
[2040] Yeah, it's all broken.
[2041] Like once or twice.
[2042] He looks weird.
[2043] It's like a weird glow around the edges of it.
[2044] But like even just like proportionally.
[2045] Way different than Xbox.
[2046] At this point, I've spent so much time looking at different proportions of avatars, I can't tell anymore.
[2047] Right, right.
[2048] We now have new, new avatars.
[2049] I don't know.
[2050] At least it's uniform now.
[2051] With those old avatars going away, hopefully it'll just be the game avatars will still look old.
[2052] I don't know.
[2053] I'm confused about avatars, and there's something I don't care about to begin with.
[2054] So are they going to just keep...
[2055] Having to make old versions of all of the new Avatar shit that they put out.
[2056] I don't know.
[2057] So that it'll work.
[2058] I would think that they would substitute.
[2059] No. My guess is that new Avatar stuff they make would probably not show up in old games at some point.
[2060] That they would start substituting.
[2061] That seems like the logical thing.
[2062] Stripping out of substituting.
[2063] Or they're going to.
[2064] patch all these old avatar games to use the new avatars.
[2065] That seems like the two paths.
[2066] Or Keflings.
[2067] Or a little bit of both.
[2068] Yeah, like we should go boot up Keflings and see what the avatars look like.
[2069] Yeah.
[2070] See if they're new or old.
[2071] But I can't tell the difference anymore, so I don't know.
[2072] I don't want to talk about avatars anymore ever again.
[2073] Okay.
[2074] I like DJ Hero 2.
[2075] That game's fun.
[2076] It is.
[2077] They made another DJ Hero game.
[2078] Yeah.
[2079] Is what they did.
[2080] The stuff they added to the gameplay I think is really great.
[2081] Yeah.
[2082] It's good additions, except for the vocal stuff.
[2083] That's just the worst idea in the world.
[2084] I agree.
[2085] I really like, again, the kind of dynamic in -game leaderboard stuff.
[2086] There's this big fat meter on the side of the screen.
[2087] It's like, all right, here is how many stars you're at with your current score, and then basically here is the next person on your friends list that is your next target on the leaderboard.
[2088] So it makes it...
[2089] It's a real easy kind of take focus on that stuff while you're playing.
[2090] And I think – I really feel like that is – that is as much as like the achievement stuff.
[2091] I feel like that has made the leaderboards like matter again in a really big way is kind of integrating that stuff into the play so it's not just like – And coming up with a lot of like non -standard leaderboards about stuff that's more than just like your raw score.
[2092] Right.
[2093] And having some that are just like you played a bunch.
[2094] Yeah, like Rock Band 3 has a lot of those – a lot of really good ones.
[2095] And like we were saying, Fable 3 has a ton of crazy – Well, then it at least gives you the opportunity to be the leader in something.
[2096] Right.
[2097] It's like hand -holding.
[2098] I'm the best hand -holder.
[2099] Who else is going to be this big an idiot to just literally just hold hands entire game?
[2100] I cast everyone in nice expressions.
[2101] Oh, man. You really were shaking a lot of hands.
[2102] Oh, man. Oh, that's so long.
[2103] You don't think you're going to – Oh, it just takes so long.
[2104] Oh, hey.
[2105] Oh.
[2106] Oh.
[2107] Oh.
[2108] Oh.
[2109] Oh.
[2110] Oh.
[2111] I don't know.
[2112] I feel like I'm seeing Vinny an inappropriate situation here.
[2113] I want to say something about Avatar.
[2114] My NXT update.
[2115] Wait, hold on.
[2116] It was broken.
[2117] The Avatar costume stuff.
[2118] Oh, yeah.
[2119] Like half of my stuff broke when I was doing it, too.
[2120] I couldn't get the pumpkin head off.
[2121] I was stuck.
[2122] Yeah, I'm stuck with my current shirt.
[2123] Weird.
[2124] On this machine that I have on my desk, it doesn't show my wrestling mask on, but at home it does.
[2125] These were both in the preview program.
[2126] I don't know.
[2127] When I first opened up the avatar editor thing, it said, we're importing all of your stuff for new avatars.
[2128] A bar was filling up and then about halfway through it said, oops!
[2129] Something bad happened.
[2130] Error code 0XEE3009.
[2131] I'd probably give it another day or two.
[2132] Actually, they've been posting updates on their operations blog saying, like, we think we got everything worked out, but there's still a few things.
[2133] I figured.
[2134] Give us another couple days.
[2135] I'm not worried about it.
[2136] I'm sure it'll work its kinks out, but I'm just like, yeah, okay, there's still...
[2137] Xbox Live was so fucked up.
[2138] Yeah, that game really quick is indicative of how awesome Xbox Live was when they first rolled that thing out.
[2139] I was really hoping I'd be stuck with the pumpkin head forever.
[2140] Like some kind of weird fly transporter shit where if you were wearing this shit when you came over to the new Xbox, it's merged in your skin.
[2141] It's part of your DNA.
[2142] You can put a helmet over the pumpkin head.
[2143] Just wear somebody's skin on top of the front.
[2144] That'd be pretty fun.
[2145] The pumpkin is always there.
[2146] I'm part pumpkin.
[2147] The pumpkin is always there.
[2148] Yeah.
[2149] I really want that Meat Boy doll.
[2150] You're a cantilever.
[2151] Yeah, I do too.
[2152] Oh, man. That thing looks great.
[2153] Get ready to put in some work.
[2154] Oh, I don't want to put in work.
[2155] You have to finish that game.
[2156] Can I pull up the console somehow?
[2157] Tilda.
[2158] Where do I press the tilde button?
[2159] Give Meat Man. Oh, it's so cute.
[2160] Impulse 9.
[2161] You don't think they'll sell that at some point?
[2162] It's such a good status symbol.
[2163] Yeah, it's such a good status thing.
[2164] I don't see a lot of them.
[2165] No. Tough?
[2166] Yeah.
[2167] That's a hard game.
[2168] Fucking tough.
[2169] Do you know what you get if you do the whole thing?
[2170] There's another award.
[2171] No, it's just those two.
[2172] It's a t -shirt and that thing.
[2173] The Fable stuff comes fast and furious.
[2174] Yeah, let's get all that stuff.
[2175] Avatar awards.
[2176] You can buy that puppy.
[2177] I almost enjoy being faked out by Avatar awards.
[2178] Like when it pops up, I think like, oh, I got an achievement.
[2179] I'm like, wait, no, I got an Avatar award.
[2180] That's even better.
[2181] Oh, great.
[2182] It's dumb looking shoes.
[2183] Thanks, Fable.
[2184] Yeah.
[2185] That's all part of an awesome, though.
[2186] Yeah, I know.
[2187] You get the whole thing and you look positively.
[2188] Yeah, I tried putting on just the pants and the shoes.
[2189] It doesn't.
[2190] Yeah.
[2191] You definitely need the whole thing.
[2192] My favorite fake out is the do something, like immediately do something and then a friend sends off.
[2193] Oh, I just shot.
[2194] What?
[2195] Oh, he's just online.
[2196] They should have a different noise for friends or something like just come up with them.
[2197] I love when it times.
[2198] It's just right.
[2199] I've got to get used to all these new sounds.
[2200] Yeah.
[2201] It's a new Xbox.
[2202] Yeah, man. It looks weird.
[2203] All squared off.
[2204] Mm -hmm.
[2205] I like the new dash.
[2206] I like that there's not just, like, shit off to the sides.
[2207] Like, here's what you're looking at right now.
[2208] It looks real similar to me. It's all squared off now.
[2209] I can't believe what they did to the quick launch, which was to make it less quick.
[2210] You're the only person I've ever known that ever used the quick launch.
[2211] Quick launch is awesome, man. You can be anywhere, and you can launch whatever.
[2212] What, are they taking to a menu now?
[2213] You take it to a hub world where you've got to walk around?
[2214] So before you would hit the guide button and the thing would pop up and it was like one option down.
[2215] So hit the guide button, hit down once, quick launch.
[2216] And now it's like on a page to the left and like three items down.
[2217] At the bottom of that list.
[2218] Indicative of how many people probably used it.
[2219] Some feedback on no one uses the quick launch.
[2220] How was the quick launch populated?
[2221] It's the same as your games library.
[2222] It's like the last ten things that you played.
[2223] That's like two over and one press.
[2224] And whatever is in the drive, I think.
[2225] The point is you could be like...
[2226] Don't worry, as soon as we get a Kinect camera in here, everything will change.
[2227] The point is you could be in the middle of memory management or in Netflix and you could just launch the game straight from there.
[2228] All right.
[2229] But hey, you like the new sound.
[2230] You like that taking you through the new Xbox sound, right?
[2231] I do.
[2232] I don't like it.
[2233] It was so wee.
[2234] A couple of things.
[2235] I don't like the new longer boot up sequence because it's longer.
[2236] It's like, what the fuck?
[2237] It totally.
[2238] It feels longer.
[2239] I haven't stopwatched it or anything.
[2240] I don't even get to see most of it because my TV doesn't find the sync until it's almost done.
[2241] My stuff's been.
[2242] kind of broken and i don't know if it's the xbox or my receiver or my tv but sometimes i turn so basically every time now i turn on my tv and my receiver let them go all the way on and then turn on the xbox and it never comes on i have to like turn everything off and try turn it back on and eventually it'll all catch but i can't turn on the xbox and then the receiver because it doesn't catch the surround sound just right i and i won't get rear speakers if i do it in that order you probably want to have your receiver looked at.
[2243] Yeah.
[2244] Is that kind of what yours was doing?
[2245] I've had to completely rejigger my setup because the HDMI...
[2246] Actually, all of the video throughput stuff was not working right.
[2247] You guys both have the Onkyo.
[2248] We have the same Onkyo.
[2249] I think I have the same one.
[2250] Yeah, it went tits up on me. Because mine does the same thing.
[2251] Sometimes I have to do the controller.
[2252] I just went out of warranty.
[2253] And it was largely a 360.
[2254] I got into this fucked up process.
[2255] Because everything goes into that Onkyo receiver.
[2256] And it's like the one HDMI cable out to the TV.
[2257] You're like, fucking, this is the simplest, all -digital, beautiful solution.
[2258] Did it ever display weird rainbow -colored snow or static, crazy gibberish on your screen?
[2259] Because that'll sometimes happen.
[2260] Get some of that sometimes, but mostly it was just like it wasn't catching the sink, and so the system was never coming up.
[2261] But I got into this weird process where I realized that I could always do it on the PS3 first and make it catch.
[2262] Yeah.
[2263] So then turn on PS3 so that I could turn on my 360s.
[2264] Weird.
[2265] I could then turn off the PS3 after it had found it or whatever.
[2266] Also, I found that if I just left my receiver on all of the time and didn't turn it off, that helped as well.
[2267] What did you guys get for trifling with the surround sound nonsense?
[2268] Yeah, I have 2 .0.
[2269] That's what I got, yeah.
[2270] Yeah, me too.
[2271] Hell yeah.
[2272] Me too.
[2273] Really?
[2274] And it's still...
[2275] Wait, but the receiver...
[2276] This has nothing to do with surround sound.
[2277] That has to do with video signal syncing through HDMI.
[2278] I bought a stereo receiver.
[2279] This is for everything.
[2280] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[2281] Good luck trying to find those gnomes.
[2282] I just run all that shit straight into the TV.
[2283] How many HDMI ports do you have?
[2284] On the TV?
[2285] Yeah.
[2286] Three.
[2287] I guess it's on the need.
[2288] Yeah.
[2289] I only use two of them.
[2290] You don't have a Wii, right?
[2291] Nope.
[2292] I'm probably going to buy another whole surround sound setup for my other room.
[2293] A stereo.
[2294] And a 3D television.
[2295] A stereo like God intended.
[2296] High five.
[2297] Get the high five.
[2298] I bought that receiver two years ago.
[2299] And it was stereo?
[2300] It felt awesome.
[2301] There I was.
[2302] Was it a dollar or was it like $900?
[2303] In the year of our lord, 2008, I was buying a two -channel stereo receiver.
[2304] Does it have something that says VCR in on it?
[2305] It was like $150.
[2306] It's an Onkyo.
[2307] I was also definitely thinking about buying a traditional stereo setup for my living room so I can get some music going out there.
[2308] Get an airport express or whatever and do some air tunes.
[2309] Out to that thing.
[2310] Something like that.
[2311] Technology.
[2312] It's a lot of really loud music I could be listening to.
[2313] A lot louder if I had more speakers to turn on around the house.
[2314] Your connect room in your connect dungeon.
[2315] It's coming along.
[2316] I have a big shelf.
[2317] I moved my game shelf in there.
[2318] So that's done.
[2319] Got your 700.
[2320] I'm pretty sure I know what the TV I'm going to buy is now.
[2321] It's 3D.
[2322] Yeah.
[2323] Yep.
[2324] Yeah.
[2325] All right.
[2326] News?
[2327] Sure.
[2328] Well, news?
[2329] What's news?
[2330] A little bit of news.
[2331] I don't know.
[2332] Inafune left.
[2333] There's news.
[2334] Inafune left.
[2335] Did he say why?
[2336] Anybody put a statement out?
[2337] He just did a big interview.
[2338] Somebody translated.
[2339] He did an interview with somebody.
[2340] Did he go somewhere?
[2341] I don't think so.
[2342] No, not yet.
[2343] I'm out.
[2344] I think the statement was something along the lines of just like, I can't do this anymore.
[2345] Fair enough.
[2346] So a ton of rumors kicking around about a PlayStation phone.
[2347] Some mock -ups or early stuff leaked out.
[2348] I think Engadget broke this stuff originally.
[2349] Wait, you missed a good segue.
[2350] In other former high -profile Capcom developer news.
[2351] You're right.
[2352] That was seamless.
[2353] Transition.
[2354] How much more related can you get?
[2355] All right, go ahead.
[2356] Shinji Bikami is a freaking Bethesda employee now.
[2357] Oh, that one.
[2358] Okay, so not a good segue to the story I was actually going to segue to.
[2359] No, no, no. It's another piece of news that we should just get out of the way since we don't really know anything about either one.
[2360] Tango Gameworks, bought by ZeniMax, now part of the Bethesda family.
[2361] I mean, it seems like a...
[2362] This is the product of what everyone's been saying, which is that, ah, Japanese game development doesn't know how to keep up with the West, but there's all these known Japanese game developers that want to make games in the West.
[2363] I guess that's the gist of this interview that Inafune just did, just the stagnation of Japanese development practices.
[2364] He's kind of been beating that drum for a while, and I think he's been pretty accurate with it.
[2365] I remember him when he was first pushed up there and he was like, we're going to push on to the 360 and we're going to Western development and try and penetrate that market.
[2366] And they did a good job.
[2367] I mean, well, they did a great job, but things are different over the last like five, six years.
[2368] With Capcom specifically?
[2369] Yeah.
[2370] I mean, they went through one whole transition and then transitioned out of that transition about as far as they could go.
[2371] And now they are buying Canadian developers.
[2372] So he's like, all right, yeah, all right, you guys are good.
[2373] I'm going to get out of here.
[2374] I'm going to get out of your way.
[2375] Dead Rising 2 is done.
[2376] I'm out of here.
[2377] I got my jacket.
[2378] I got my promo code.
[2379] I'm out.
[2380] Yeah, he's got his surf bot head.
[2381] Fuck that fucker.
[2382] That's why they can't get those codes.
[2383] He's left with all of them.
[2384] That's right.
[2385] Internally, they're like, fucking kill those codes.
[2386] He's leaving.
[2387] That jacket doesn't exist anymore.
[2388] I don't know.
[2389] I don't have any.
[2390] I have no information.
[2391] I have no stats.
[2392] But I have this feeling that you have a lot of these guys that have been working for these Japanese companies for a really, really, really long time.
[2393] And a lot of them are maybe not being compensated the way that they might in the West just because of there is that weird Japanese loyalty.
[2394] employee -employer dynamic.
[2395] I could see it being like, someone out west being like, we've got a shitload of money to make a game.
[2396] If we could get a name like Shinji Mikami.
[2397] That's possible.
[2398] And Bethesda these days seems like they have a shitload of money.
[2399] You've read those apocryphal stories about how Miyamoto is paid like any other general manager at Nintendo.
[2400] I've never heard of that.
[2401] I mean, that's floated around before.
[2402] I don't know if that's accurate or not.
[2403] That's why I say it's apocryphal.
[2404] Yeah, you hear stories like that.
[2405] And you have to wonder.
[2406] Beyond even just feeling frustrated with the state of Japanese game development.
[2407] Crazy thing about Mikami is they never even made anything, right?
[2408] Right.
[2409] They founded the studio and then it got bought.
[2410] I'm sure he has some sort of thing to show them to say, here's what we've been doing with our time and all that.
[2411] Of course, then again, creator of Resident Evil is probably enough of a calling card to get you in the door.
[2412] Yeah, I think so.
[2413] All right, so get us to this PlayStation.
[2414] Oh, no, I'm out.
[2415] So one of, speaking of PlayStation.
[2416] Speaking of Acquisition Rumors phone.
[2417] So yeah, Engadget posted the leaked picture of what is claimed to be a PlayStation phone.
[2418] What does that mean?
[2419] Kind of looks like the PSP Go.
[2420] Yep.
[2421] Which when they announced the Go, like that form factor did look a lot like the Sony Ericsson stuff.
[2422] This doesn't have quite the same like rounded.
[2423] It looks a little narrower, but the same slide up.
[2424] Or it wasn't the Go.
[2425] It looked like the.
[2426] There's the weird device that Sony...
[2427] Anyway.
[2428] Sorry.
[2429] No, no, no. I know what you're talking about.
[2430] That kind of looks like the PSP Go, though.
[2431] It's got that same slide up.
[2432] That had like a keyboard.
[2433] It did.
[2434] What is the upshot of this?
[2435] When you say PlayStation, are you being funny?
[2436] Is it a Sony phone?
[2437] It's a Sony Ericsson phone.
[2438] Okay.
[2439] With like PlayStation button, like a slide up, like a PSP Go that's also a phone and is not as powerful as a PSP Go.
[2440] So it has to have its own software.
[2441] Yeah, it's not a PSP.
[2442] It doesn't have a memory stick slot.
[2443] No, it has a micro SD.
[2444] Have anything to do with PlayStation?
[2445] Is that actually in the branding or just the controller?
[2446] Well, it's all leak stuff.
[2447] Yeah, so it's like all like blank.
[2448] Like the face of it, the slide open face is just like blank.
[2449] No branding on it at all.
[2450] Does it look real?
[2451] I haven't seen any pictures.
[2452] Here's one that's real.
[2453] You can look at it here.
[2454] See?
[2455] There was like a weird back and forth chain of like confirmation, denial, confirmation, like.
[2456] Yeah.
[2457] At one point they said those are totally fake and then at some point they said actually no comment.
[2458] I'm so sure why they would make this now when Apple's just going to buy them.
[2459] Why do this now?
[2460] Just the iPhone 5.
[2461] Going back on all that stuff that Apple's been talking about.
[2462] We realize the D -pad buttons is actually pretty key to gaming experience.
[2463] I mean, okay, so the PSP is not at its healthiest state right now.
[2464] But to go and, like, make some other – what?
[2465] It's in the bed with tuberculosis right now.
[2466] It can hear you.
[2467] I thought it was being pretty nice.
[2468] It's in the other room, man. Yeah, just go keep going.
[2469] I don't want to play some Twisted Metal head -on.
[2470] You don't come by to play Luminous anymore.
[2471] I'm sorry.
[2472] I'm sorry.
[2473] Just keep going.
[2474] All right, moving on.
[2475] Fine, you guys.
[2476] So it is ridiculous.
[2477] This thing is ridiculous.
[2478] Yeah.
[2479] Considering.
[2480] Just introduce something else.
[2481] Considering like people are already working on PSP2 games.
[2482] There's that.
[2483] And that there are dev kits out there.
[2484] EA just said in some interview, some dude from EA said, yeah, we have one.
[2485] I'm not going to talk to you about it for obvious reasons.
[2486] But yeah, I guess I can say that much.
[2487] Thanks, NetherRealm.
[2488] So many things about this product that make it absurd.
[2489] Yeah.
[2490] Yeah, but I think that maybe some of these shots end up getting called from the mobile end of things, though, and not the SCE end.
[2491] I mean, that's a joint venture or whatever, isn't it?
[2492] Like Sony Ericsson.
[2493] Sure, yeah.
[2494] So it's like a completely different part of Sony.
[2495] They're like, yeah, fuck it.
[2496] We can use that stuff.
[2497] That's our stuff.
[2498] Yeah, triangle button.
[2499] Fuck you guys.
[2500] We're using it.
[2501] You know, it's like, and Kuduragi's not around to say no. I don't know what.
[2502] So this just, yeah, like putting this stuff out there or having this stuff in development, if this ends up coming to pass, like especially around the same time frame as a PSP2, unless this is a PSP2 that also happens to be a phone and it's way more powerful than anyone's talking about just yet or whatever, like that just seems confusing.
[2503] That doesn't seem like it fits.
[2504] Side talk.
[2505] That doesn't seem like it fits anywhere.
[2506] I don't know.
[2507] I don't know.
[2508] PSP2, though.
[2509] That could be cool.
[2510] If it's a real thing.
[2511] Right.
[2512] I'm not sure.
[2513] I'm not convinced.
[2514] I'm not convinced that Sony's going to make another handheld system.
[2515] Ever.
[2516] I can see why you might think that.
[2517] I put all their efforts behind the bloggy.
[2518] 25th anniversary of Super Mario Brothers.
[2519] We're in it.
[2520] Is this now?
[2521] 25 years.
[2522] Not of James Bond.
[2523] Super Mario Brothers.
[2524] No, that is your anniversary.
[2525] That's why all the James Bond games is because it's the golden anniversary for Super Mario Brothers.
[2526] Stop.
[2527] Wait, I thought, isn't 50 golden?
[2528] Yes.
[2529] What's 25?
[2530] 25 is nothing.
[2531] Silver?
[2532] 25 is nothing at all.
[2533] Diamonds.
[2534] Yeah, they don't go on the fives.
[2535] They only go on the tens.
[2536] I think they only go on the tens.
[2537] Nintendo had a little cocktail thing for that last week.
[2538] It was right near here.
[2539] We should have gone.
[2540] It was also the night of the first World Series game.
[2541] But they were having Super Mario Brothers competitions and stuff there.
[2542] So as part of this, if you're part of Club Nintendo, there's some dumb stuff that you can spend your Club Nintendo points on.
[2543] Like?
[2544] I don't do that.
[2545] Calendar.
[2546] Oh, the fucking cards.
[2547] Let's say 25, right on them.
[2548] Some dumb shit.
[2549] I'm really, yeah.
[2550] You done?
[2551] Fuck you, Club Nintendo USA.
[2552] Aww.
[2553] You guys are boners.
[2554] Aww, what happened?
[2555] It's way better in Japan.
[2556] They just get so much more baller shit.
[2557] They get the stuff that I want.
[2558] I'm like, fuck you guys.
[2559] But we are going to get Super Mario All -Stars for the Wii.
[2560] Limited edition for the Wii.
[2561] 30 Bones.
[2562] Yeah, that's cool.
[2563] I am going to buy that.
[2564] Isn't it just the SNES game?
[2565] Sure.
[2566] I think there's some other stuff on there, right?
[2567] It's Mario 1, 2, 3 in USA.
[2568] Wait.
[2569] All right.
[2570] No Mario World?
[2571] No, that's not Mario All -Stars.
[2572] I know, but it's kind of a shame they wouldn't throw that on there.
[2573] Yeah.
[2574] This is the 20th anniversary of Super Mario Brothers.
[2575] Why isn't this just a virtual console release instead of putting a Super Nintendo tape on a disc?
[2576] It looks like there might be more to the packaging, like there's a soundtrack CD and some other stuff.
[2577] And it's limited edition, so they want to throttle that.
[2578] Yeah, yeah.
[2579] Make it a thing.
[2580] That's all right.
[2581] But I guess I would have loved to have seen it.
[2582] I want another remake.
[2583] Oh, you want...
[2584] If they're going to do this again, they should remake it again.
[2585] Not take the 8 -bit games and make them 16 -bit.
[2586] Take the 8 -bit games and make them...
[2587] 64 -bit.
[2588] 64.
[2589] Yes.
[2590] Make them for the Atari Jaguar.
[2591] Yeah.
[2592] Finally.
[2593] Finally.
[2594] What we've been demanding.
[2595] They kind of already did that with the GBA games.
[2596] The GBA games were then a step...
[2597] more remade than the All -Stars games.
[2598] I think you're talking about super high -res art and stuff like that, right?
[2599] Yeah, yeah.
[2600] I'm saying if you really want to honor it, either leave them be or do the work.
[2601] Don't re -release some other re -release, right?
[2602] You're talking like hardcore Uprising style, like really high -res.
[2603] Yeah, I'm talking like either do that or, you know, like bare minimum, if you want to cut some corners, you made new Super Mario Bros. Wii.
[2604] Take that stuff and make it play like the, you know.
[2605] Like recreate those games.
[2606] Those levels.
[2607] Those levels in that tech.
[2608] But also you'd have to redo all the physics to make it play right.
[2609] And that would be probably a lot harder.
[2610] But anyway.
[2611] I don't mind this.
[2612] Like I would love to see something that had like.
[2613] Like give me Super Mario All -Stars HD remix.
[2614] Give me like super high -res crazy style.
[2615] You know.
[2616] You put.
[2617] Yeah.
[2618] Put Super Mario World in there.
[2619] And yeah.
[2620] Give me World.
[2621] Give me the Mario game that matters.
[2622] But I'm still.
[2623] And I own Super Mario Bros. 3 on Virtual Console already.
[2624] But not the SNES version.
[2625] I will pick this up.
[2626] The All -Stars version is superior.
[2627] Because you can press start and press up on the D -pad and cycle through any of the costumes.
[2628] So you go directly to Kariboshu on any level.
[2629] Kariboshu on any level.
[2630] I didn't even know about that.
[2631] It's the most game -breaking, crazy, beautiful thing.
[2632] That's not even a code?
[2633] No, you press start and you press up on the D -pad.
[2634] It's fucking awesome.
[2635] I bought that game on Super NES when it came out.
[2636] I never knew that.
[2637] Oh, maybe.
[2638] No, I think it's just player one.
[2639] Anyway.
[2640] It's easy.
[2641] Either way, it's an easy thing to do.
[2642] Well, I hope they take that out.
[2643] Why do you got to break the game?
[2644] It's not the way it was made to be played.
[2645] It was always intended to be able to play as Kribo's shoe on any and all levels.
[2646] Actually, there are a lot of levels that you really do.
[2647] I've discovered that Kribo's shoe is not the reason for the season all the time.
[2648] Always be Kribo's shoe.
[2649] A -B -K -S.
[2650] For Karibo's shoe.
[2651] Coffee is for Karibo's shoe.
[2652] What does Karibo look like?
[2653] Karibo is Japanese for Goomba.
[2654] One big Goomba?
[2655] No, it's just live in a shoe.
[2656] It's just the shoe of the Goomba.
[2657] It's not Goomba's shoe.
[2658] But they're tiny.
[2659] That's how they don't wear shoes correctly.
[2660] That's right.
[2661] They're little mushroom dudes.
[2662] They're dumb mushrooms.
[2663] They just got little frowny faces.
[2664] I bought this one shoe.
[2665] Check it out.
[2666] They don't even look where they're walking.
[2667] Yeah, they shuffle sideways, idiots.
[2668] At least the turtles know to look forward.
[2669] Yeah, they got it under control.
[2670] And they hide inside their shells.
[2671] And they don't even wear shoes, do they?
[2672] They wear little booties, right?
[2673] No, the turtles don't wear shoes.
[2674] The Goombas wear shoes, though.
[2675] Or maybe that's just their feet.
[2676] I don't know what a fucking mushroom's foot looks like, for Christ's sakes.
[2677] It's got a lot of fungus on it.
[2678] Fallout New Vegas patched.
[2679] It's probably still broken.
[2680] They got rid of lockpicking, I heard.
[2681] DLC for Monday Night Combat.
[2682] Free DLC for Monday Night Combat announced.
[2683] If anyone's still playing that.
[2684] Yeah.
[2685] All right.
[2686] Great.
[2687] I'll play that.
[2688] S -rank that game.
[2689] Let's...
[2690] It's not that hard.
[2691] No, I remember seeing it not too long after it launched.
[2692] A lot of people had that.
[2693] All right.
[2694] All right.
[2695] Rumor time.
[2696] Rumor time.
[2697] Rumor town time.
[2698] Okay.
[2699] Rumor town is loading.
[2700] Don't panic.
[2701] Don't panic.
[2702] Kotaku has received documents indicating that Slant 6 games...
[2703] Who did those PSP SOCOM games.
[2704] And the downloadable PS3 SOCOM game.
[2705] Oh, right, right, right.
[2706] The Confrontation?
[2707] Yeah.
[2708] I .e. not the SOCOM game you liked.
[2709] No. Rumor has it they're working on some sort of multiplayer Resident Evil property.
[2710] What?
[2711] Yeah.
[2712] Vinny, thoughts?
[2713] What?
[2714] Come back to me when there's...
[2715] I'm leaving Rumortown.
[2716] I'm moving out.
[2717] Is Leonardo DiCaprio's lookalike in this one, too?
[2718] I'm moving out of Rumortown.
[2719] Just Outbreak 2.
[2720] I thought you guys were going to be excited about going to Rumortown.
[2721] No. Did they make an Outbreak 2?
[2722] Yeah.
[2723] They made like a File 2.
[2724] It was like Outbreak File 2.
[2725] That's not 2.
[2726] That's File 2.
[2727] Yeah, it was not a sequel.
[2728] Totes different.
[2729] Expansion.
[2730] All my friends are not in Rumortown.
[2731] I left them.
[2732] I want to go back.
[2733] This place sucks.
[2734] There's an Xbox 360 S bundle coming with Alan Wake and Forza 3 for the same price as the existing one.
[2735] That's pretty cool.
[2736] Get that.
[2737] Yeah.
[2738] Is that a rumor?
[2739] No, that's a downloadable version of Alan Wake.
[2740] It's not even a disc.
[2741] Not a disc for Alan Wake, but a disc for Forza 3.
[2742] Weird.
[2743] I wonder if they're just rushing that thing to games on demand.
[2744] Weird.
[2745] Because I don't think it's continuing to sell that well at retail.
[2746] No. It's cheap everywhere.
[2747] Alan Wake has been heavily discounted for a while.
[2748] Have you played the second DLC?
[2749] No, I never got a chance to play that.
[2750] You've got that office copy.
[2751] You think that anything Alan Wake has done?
[2752] I need to just like 20 bucks now.
[2753] You think there'll be Alan Wake 2?
[2754] I highly doubt it.
[2755] I don't think I'm interested in it.
[2756] Well, not that I'm interested in Resident Evil, period.
[2757] So, well, whatever.
[2758] I guess I just won't say anything.
[2759] Now I want to know.
[2760] Well, the multiplayer in Resident Evil...
[2761] I was going to say I'm not interested in a multiplayer -focused Resident Evil shooter from the makers of SOCOM Confrontation, but I'm not interested in a Resident Evil game.
[2762] End of sentence.
[2763] I might as well stop the sentence there.
[2764] The multiplayer in Resident Evil has been terrible all around.
[2765] The co -op has been.
[2766] Outbreak was not good.
[2767] The co -op was okay, but the kind of like...
[2768] Oh, it was great.
[2769] But the multiplayer versus maps were terrible.
[2770] Oh, that was awful.
[2771] Yeah, it was awful.
[2772] But that was DLC.
[2773] That wasn't even part of the original game.
[2774] Yeah, Outbreak was broken.
[2775] I think the story said that this was going to be called Resident Evil Raccoon City.
[2776] Yep.
[2777] That's a place in Resident Evil.
[2778] Right next to Rumor.
[2779] Now we're in Resident Evil town.
[2780] Yeah.
[2781] Because you know what totally continues to be done?
[2782] Say it with me. Zombie.
[2783] Fuck this shit.
[2784] I would, but then I just played Undead Nightmare and really enjoyed it, and then Walking Dead was on Sunday, and that was really good, too.
[2785] People continue to play.
[2786] I guess I'm like, yeah, I don't know.
[2787] Somehow people keep doing tasteful things with zombies.
[2788] Maybe I shouldn't be shocked, but I'm shocked to hear that that Undead Nightmare is not awful.
[2789] It's pretty awesome.
[2790] Yeah, they got the right tone for it.
[2791] Yeah, I guess I shouldn't be shocked by that.
[2792] A lot of people like Red Dead.
[2793] I mean, whatever.
[2794] Coming up onto it, I was totally rolling my eyes at it too.
[2795] This is the lowest denominator move they could make.
[2796] But it's almost like their commentary on that in a way.
[2797] Yeah, we know that zombies are fucking done, but...
[2798] we can do it well.
[2799] As soon as that one trailer came out where the last five frames of the trailer, they flashed that zombie bear roaring, I was just like, all right, this is going to be so stupid.
[2800] I can't wait.
[2801] There's that one scene I saw.
[2802] Dude, zombie bears are fucked.
[2803] I think I saw you playing it, Brad, where the guy was like, all right, so you just wait here.
[2804] I'm going to run down this way to the dark alley by myself.
[2805] I'll be safe down here.
[2806] Come back for me later.
[2807] And you just wait here and wait for me to come back because it's right over here down this dark alley.
[2808] I'm going to run inside.
[2809] I'm sure nothing happens.
[2810] It should happen to be down there.
[2811] Be right back.
[2812] It takes like two steps.
[2813] Like a zombie jumps out and mauls him, and then he turns into a zombie.
[2814] Yeah.
[2815] So that kind of self -aware is pretty funny.
[2816] Yeah.
[2817] Some good winks and nods in there.
[2818] Because it's self -aware and super serious, too.
[2819] That's the thing.
[2820] It's a good mix.
[2821] It pairs both nicely, for sure.
[2822] All right.
[2823] Super Meat Boy is coming to PC later this month.
[2824] The Wii version has been delayed.
[2825] So look for...
[2826] They were asking questions if people would be interested in a disc -based version of...
[2827] Super Meat Boy.
[2828] Oh, really?
[2829] For the Wii.
[2830] Oh, because like WiiWare...
[2831] Yeah, it's like a size...
[2832] It has to be 39 megabytes.
[2833] 39?
[2834] Apparently.
[2835] Wow.
[2836] That's not accurate at all because episode one of Strong Bad was like a gig and a half.
[2837] Wow, really?
[2838] Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no. It couldn't have been that big.
[2839] But it was like...
[2840] I don't know.
[2841] It was a billion blocks.
[2842] Fucking whatever that means.
[2843] It was eight mega rams.
[2844] Oh, I only have six free MegaRams.
[2845] 16 gigajoules.
[2846] Yeah, whatever that unit means.
[2847] 27 gold coins.
[2848] It was a lot more than the other ones.
[2849] My mind crystals are full up.
[2850] I don't think I can download that.
[2851] Oh, your Microsofts?
[2852] Yeah.
[2853] My wetware.
[2854] Black ice.
[2855] All right.
[2856] Enough news.
[2857] Let's talk about news releases.
[2858] Yes.
[2859] Nope.
[2860] Nope.
[2861] Don't encourage him.
[2862] Now he's already in the car.
[2863] Don't talk to him.
[2864] Don't talk to him.
[2865] Just don't.
[2866] All right.
[2867] Here's what's coming out.
[2868] Or what's maybe already came out this week.
[2869] Poke Park Pikachu's Adventure for Nintendo Wii.
[2870] We have that.
[2871] What is that?
[2872] Wait, what is that?
[2873] Poke Park Pikachu's Adventure.
[2874] It's an adventure starring Pikachu, and he's in a Poke Park.
[2875] Pokemans for the Wii.
[2876] They don't let me into the Pokepark anymore.
[2877] Monopoly Streets!
[2878] My membership expired, and I was wearing the wrong handkerchiefs.
[2879] For the Xbox 360.
[2880] Patapon 3.
[2881] A third Patapon game.
[2882] Didn't the second one come out earlier this year?
[2883] Last year.
[2884] I remember hastily writing it into some Game of the Year stuff last year.
[2885] Oh, right!
[2886] That came out!
[2887] Fist of the North Star Ken's Rage for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
[2888] We have that.
[2889] Ken is pissed.
[2890] He does not look happy about this.
[2891] Do you have that?
[2892] Have you played that?
[2893] I haven't touched it yet.
[2894] Do you punch guys?
[2895] I think you punch guys.
[2896] Is it Dynasty Warriors?
[2897] I think Torses explode.
[2898] I don't know.
[2899] You're the first person that said that to me. It is a Tecmo -Koei joint, isn't it?
[2900] Yes, it is.
[2901] All right.
[2902] And I understand you're doubting their ability to make a game other than Dynasty Warriors.
[2903] I get that.
[2904] It's from the Koei side of the Tecmo Koei as well, I think.
[2905] Dragon Ball Raging Blast 2 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
[2906] Finally, I've been...
[2907] Never.
[2908] Go on.
[2909] God of War Ghost of Sparta for the PSP.
[2910] Ease the Oath of Felghana for the PSP.
[2911] If you like your ease...
[2912] People do.
[2913] I feel like we went like a decade without any Ease games and now it's like every three weeks there's a new Ease game.
[2914] That's not true at all.
[2915] Okay.
[2916] It's not every three weeks.
[2917] If it feels like that, you're lying about how you feel.
[2918] No, there was like just an Ease game.
[2919] You're lying.
[2920] Just came out.
[2921] I still don't think that's accurate.
[2922] All right.
[2923] Well, I'll let you fact check that then.
[2924] No. Because the minute we start fact -checking this podcast is the minute it never goes up on time again.
[2925] Blood Drive, which I thought was coming out last week, and they thought was coming out last week, but it's coming out this week.
[2926] And that's a downloadable?
[2927] No, that's disc -based.
[2928] What is that?
[2929] That's driving car combat.
[2930] Zombie.
[2931] It's what it sounds like.
[2932] You run over zombies in a car.
[2933] It's Carmageddon, but with zombies instead of people.
[2934] All right, all right.
[2935] Some kind of open arena instead of an open city or something.
[2936] It's Quarantine 3.
[2937] GoldenEye 007, James Bond, GoldenEye 007, and James Bond, Bloodstone.
[2938] Both coming out this week.
[2939] Jeopardy.
[2940] We should get that.
[2941] Nintendo Wii and Nintendo PS.
[2942] We could probably get it.
[2943] We should get that.
[2944] Oh, but also out this week, Wheel of Fortune.
[2945] When are those two going to be separated?
[2946] What?
[2947] Why is Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune?
[2948] I mean, I know they're all back to fucking back.
[2949] Back to back.
[2950] But they could not be more different and they could not appeal to more different crowds.
[2951] I know.
[2952] It's like you watch Jeopardy and it's like, all right, turn off the TV.
[2953] Not going to watch Wheel.
[2954] See, I used to be something of a Wheel watcher when I was a child.
[2955] Not anymore?
[2956] No. I don't watch Wheel of Fortune.
[2957] I evolved.
[2958] Do you guys know what's going on with Jeopardy aside from video games in this office?
[2959] Yeah.
[2960] All right.
[2961] What's that?
[2962] It's awesome.
[2963] Is somebody going to be on from here?
[2964] I'm not saying anymore.
[2965] Oh, come on.
[2966] We might have a video later.
[2967] We'll talk.
[2968] Yeah, we'll talk later.
[2969] It's not that you can't know.
[2970] It's that we're not going to talk about it.
[2971] I want to know now.
[2972] Damn it.
[2973] It's tantalizing.
[2974] Fighters Uncaged.
[2975] Xbox 360.
[2976] Yeah, all that Kinect stuff.
[2977] Oh, yeah.
[2978] So Kinect comes out this week.
[2979] Thursday.
[2980] Great.
[2981] What?
[2982] Connect Day is Thursday.
[2983] Connect Day?
[2984] I missed that countdown on my dashboard every time I turned my 360 on for like a week.
[2985] That thing was wrong.
[2986] The countdown was wrong.
[2987] Now it just says, coming in a number of days.
[2988] The countdown originally was set to expire in such a way that Connect would be out right now.
[2989] So this launch is going fantastic.
[2990] Is it an international launch?
[2991] Worldwide?
[2992] I don't know.
[2993] I don't know.
[2994] I don't know.
[2995] I think.
[2996] God damn it, Kinect.
[2997] Just get here.
[2998] Do you mean like get here into the world or get here into this fucking office specifically?
[2999] Both.
[3000] But mostly get into the world so...
[3001] People can see it and then everyone knows.
[3002] I want to live in a post -release Kinect world.
[3003] You're tired of waiting for Kinect.
[3004] I'm so tired.
[3005] As soon as I heard that Stereo MC song, I knew I was ready.
[3006] Wait, when did they play the Stereo MC song?
[3007] The press conference.
[3008] Oh, wow.
[3009] I called it.
[3010] As we were going in, I was like, man, they really need to play that Stereo MC song.
[3011] That's right.
[3012] That's right.
[3013] As soon as they announced the name, and then they did.
[3014] I was like, I'm fucking awesome.
[3015] So yeah, all the initial launch, Kinect Games, Fighters Uncaged, Your Shape Fitness Evolved, Dance Masters, Adrenaline Misfits, Motion Sports, Kinectimals, Kinect Joyride, The Biggest Loser, Sonic Freeriders, Dance Central, Kinect Sports, all that shit, y 'all.
[3016] Yeah.
[3017] Is that the whole launch lineup?
[3018] I believe so.
[3019] The fuck?
[3020] I mean, there's more stuff coming later in the month, but as far as day of.
[3021] Like there's a game party.
[3022] Warner's releasing a game party.
[3023] Game party.
[3024] Oh, whatever.
[3025] Connect.
[3026] And then Flingsmash.
[3027] Yeah, Flingsmash.
[3028] Flingsmash.
[3029] That's the new, they're bundling that with the new.
[3030] Wii Remote Plus.
[3031] Yes, which has the Motion Plus built into it.
[3032] So confused about it.
[3033] The other thing that everyone called as soon as it happened.
[3034] This last half of this new release thing is.
[3035] either making me infuriate or I'm dreaming.
[3036] Don't worry.
[3037] We've all pre -ordered Kinects.
[3038] We'll get them in here on Thursday and do something with them.
[3039] It's not even that.
[3040] And then we'll all know together.
[3041] We'll all know together if that stuff's awesome or not.
[3042] Did you just say they're bundling in the Wii Motion Plus into a Wiimote?
[3043] Oh, yeah.
[3044] But nobody makes anything for the Wii Motion Plus.
[3045] Maybe if all the remotes had the stuff built in, people would.
[3046] But it'll never be there.
[3047] But it's already too late.
[3048] But there's like 30 million Wiimotes out there that don't have it.
[3049] Kind of.
[3050] Kind of like 360s in the Kinect.
[3051] All right.
[3052] All right.
[3053] Back on board.
[3054] Fling Smash looks kind of neat.
[3055] I kind of want to check that out.
[3056] I played Fling Smash a while ago, and it seemed cool.
[3057] Wait.
[3058] Did you not say Just Dance in that launch window?
[3059] No. Just Dance is not a Kinect game.
[3060] What?
[3061] Just Dance is not a Kinect game.
[3062] Not Just Dance.
[3063] I'm sorry.
[3064] Dance Central.
[3065] I did say Dance Central.
[3066] Okay.
[3067] I just wanted to check.
[3068] Also, Dance Masters.
[3069] I know.
[3070] Which...
[3071] I'm kind of more excited about Dance Masters just to see what the fuck that is.
[3072] I know they were showing me at E3.
[3073] Yeah, I spent some time looking at it at E3.
[3074] I didn't get to...
[3075] Yep.
[3076] So what should we do?
[3077] Should we just go out and buy a truckload, get a big shopping cart?
[3078] You said about 10 games in there, didn't you?
[3079] All sorts of biggest losers.
[3080] We already have Sonic here.
[3081] Yeah, yeah.
[3082] Purple boxes, dog.
[3083] Yeah, yeah.
[3084] The Konami stuff is on its way.
[3085] I'm talking to Ubisoft.
[3086] Okay.
[3087] Yeah, we should have Dance Central here.
[3088] Briefly.
[3089] Yeah.
[3090] Soon.
[3091] Very soon.
[3092] Because we are looking to.
[3093] I've pre -ordered the Microsoft stuff as well as a Kinect.
[3094] We'll blow this shit out.
[3095] Yeah.
[3096] We're going to show it.
[3097] Yeah.
[3098] We're going to do a live broadcast on Thursday as soon as we can.
[3099] As soon as we get this shit.
[3100] Yeah.
[3101] Get connected.
[3102] You will know as soon as we do.
[3103] Before and possibly after TNT on Thursday.
[3104] Yeah.
[3105] Where we're playing.
[3106] During.
[3107] GoldenEye.
[3108] All around it.
[3109] There will be connecting happening.
[3110] All up in.
[3111] All sorts of dashboard speaking.
[3112] Xbox.
[3113] I'm just going to start doing that to your Xbox from across the room.
[3114] Xbox.
[3115] Like the guy who, like Norm, walking around the office pulling up the front row on everyone's Macs using the remote.
[3116] Or just when you, is this PS3 controller connected?
[3117] Nope.
[3118] Connect to some other PS3 on the other side of the office.
[3119] Thanks, Bluetooth.
[3120] Xbox Live Arcade releases this week include Auditorium for 800 Microsoft points.
[3121] What's that?
[3122] It's a port of the popular Flash Puzzler.
[3123] Okay.
[3124] Zoo Inc. made this.
[3125] It's not a music game, right?
[3126] I feel like I played Auditorium.
[3127] It's just an audit.
[3128] Like the beginning of audio and the beginning of the name.
[3129] So I'd suspect that.
[3130] Like a rhythmic puzzle type game.
[3131] I don't know anything about it.
[3132] I feel like I played it and I totally don't remember.
[3133] King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match.
[3134] That's actually up right now.
[3135] Yep.
[3136] You just can't.
[3137] You will not be able to play it online.
[3138] Remember when Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was released out of nowhere on the Xbox?
[3139] Vaguely.
[3140] It was like it somehow just appeared and you could buy it, but they weren't promoting it and it wasn't supposed to be released for another week or something like that.
[3141] It's the same type deal.
[3142] As soon as you launch the game, it drops you from Xbox Live.
[3143] Weird.
[3144] It goes like, what is this game?
[3145] This isn't a game.
[3146] Get off our network.
[3147] Get off.
[3148] Get off.
[3149] Like somebody posted it by accident or something.
[3150] So I bought it over the weekend for $10 and played a bunch of it, but I had to play it all offline because it doesn't connect.
[3151] It's unlimited match, so it's like an updated version of King of Fighters 2002 with some characters that were not in the original version and some updated versions of those characters that were not in the original version.
[3152] And other than that, it's kind of your standard S &K fighter with the practice modes and that sort of stuff.
[3153] Your onlines.
[3154] Either you care about it or you don't.
[3155] That sounds esoteric.
[3156] It is incredibly esoteric.
[3157] They had to take K9999 out for licensing issues or something and replace him with a guy that looks different named Nameless.
[3158] And Yu -Gi -Oh!
[3159] 5D Decade Duel.
[3160] It's 5Ds, isn't it?
[3161] Isn't it like 5D apostrophe S?
[3162] Yeah, I guess it's Yu -Gi -Oh!
[3163] 5Ds, yes.
[3164] And what are the 5Ds?
[3165] I don't know.
[3166] Dodging, Digimon.
[3167] Donuts.
[3168] Donuts.
[3169] Do -do.
[3170] That's too big.
[3171] Don't be impolite.
[3172] That's always the fourth.
[3173] I always forget that one.
[3174] Binkleberry.
[3175] So people have figured out, for game room stuff, people have figured out all the stuff that's in Pac -11.
[3176] Yeah.
[3177] Which just came out.
[3178] Great.
[3179] But we don't know if any of it is coming out this week.
[3180] But it's all 2600 and Intellivision games.
[3181] The one arcade game in this group was...
[3182] Was Jackal.
[3183] Hell of a game.
[3184] Which we saw.
[3185] Yep.
[3186] That's out.
[3187] Everything else is...
[3188] Maybe Sword Quest.
[3189] Earth World will come out.
[3190] Fire World.
[3191] Nope.
[3192] G .I. Joe.
[3193] Nope.
[3194] I'm looking at the Parker Brothers.
[3195] I'm looking at the list.
[3196] I have the list.
[3197] Read the list.
[3198] Okay.
[3199] You want to hear the list?
[3200] Yeah.
[3201] So this is what might be.
[3202] Some.
[3203] These are games that are now on my console that they may sell someday.
[3204] They must sell you those games.
[3205] That 83 meg download.
[3206] That's right.
[3207] Golf.
[3208] Yeah.
[3209] Was that Intellivision?
[3210] Okay.
[3211] I'm sorry.
[3212] Start of 2600.
[3213] Okay.
[3214] Golf.
[3215] Human Cannonball.
[3216] Okay.
[3217] Kabobber.
[3218] All right.
[3219] I don't know what that is.
[3220] Kebab or kebab?
[3221] Kebab.
[3222] C -A -B -B -O -B -E -R.
[3223] Kebabber.
[3224] Yeah, not a kebab.
[3225] Not a kebab.
[3226] All right.
[3227] Miniature golf.
[3228] Space war.
[3229] All right.
[3230] No, that's not the version of space war.
[3231] Sprint master.
[3232] What?
[3233] And super football.
[3234] For the Intellivision.
[3235] Skiing.
[3236] Slapshot Super Pro Hockey.
[3237] Space Battle.
[3238] And Space Cadet.
[3239] Space War.
[3240] Space Panic.
[3241] Space Dancers.
[3242] Space Conflict.
[3243] So you pick three of those and maybe those will come out.
[3244] Space Lance.
[3245] So that's it.
[3246] You're looking at what?
[3247] How many is that?
[3248] That's like four weeks worth of game room right there.
[3249] Just crush a man's month.
[3250] You could, I guess.
[3251] I don't know.
[3252] I don't know why they keep, like, meeting these out.
[3253] Just, like, fucking just put them all up.
[3254] Yeah, just release it.
[3255] Who cares?
[3256] Hey, listen, you bought this thing?
[3257] Congratulations, you get them all.
[3258] Unlocked.
[3259] And on PlayStation Network, there's this game, Horde.
[3260] It's an indie game.
[3261] The Horde with Kurt Cameron?
[3262] Yep.
[3263] I love that game.
[3264] Hell yeah!
[3265] Did we see that at PAX?
[3266] Yeah, it was the Dragon multiplayer game.
[3267] They were showing that at PAX.
[3268] I played some.
[3269] There's a Giant Bomb fan is on the dev team there.
[3270] Pimp that.
[3271] Part of that team, so definitely give that a look.
[3272] Try out the demo.
[3273] See what you think.
[3274] What is it?
[3275] It's a multiplayer game where you play dragons, and it's top -down view of this fantasy map, and you're running around trying to do dragon shit, and it's cooperative most of the time.
[3276] That's one of the 5Ds, dragon shit.
[3277] Yo, I'm on some dragon shit now.
[3278] I'm doing what I do.
[3279] You know, dragon shit.
[3280] A word?
[3281] Word.
[3282] Jeff, why don't you tell me about what's going on in the wonderful...
[3283] I'm actually really excited about these ones.
[3284] I saw some of these already.
[3285] The wonderful world of Nintendo.
[3286] Let's start out with WiiWare, shall we?
[3287] Yes, we shall.
[3288] Oh, fuck.
[3289] I just went and read these.
[3290] Wow.
[3291] Wow.
[3292] Yeah.
[3293] Get ready.
[3294] Get ready.
[3295] This ain't funny.

[3302] So it's a...
[3303] Probe games.
[3304] You must find amber rocks on the outside in order to obtain two new creatures.
[3305] The minute they start making typos on these is when it all breaks down, people.
[3306] Wait, so I got to get hot rocks?
[3307] Amber rocks.
[3308] If you cannot move through the interior of the robot.
[3309] You must find amber rocks on the outside in order to obtain two new creatures.
[3310] Why are they amber?
[3311] And progress through the internal circuits.
[3312] What do rocks have to do with robots?
[3313] What's rocks got to do with it?
[3314] John Travolta at the end.
[3315] Oh, come on.
[3316] Gene Labs from Frontline Studios.

[3321] The goal of the game is to distribute the antivirus solution to the cells visible under the microscope before they become infected by the deadly virus.
[3322] Drag the solution from the healthy cells to infected cells to kill them and or prevent the healthy cells from becoming infected by the bad virus.
[3323] Kind of judgy.
[3324] A little judgy, yeah.
[3325] Now let's go on to Nintendo DSiWare.
[3326] Yep.
[3327] All right.
[3328] Gene Labs from Frontline Studios.
[3329] One player rated E for everyone.

[3334] We couldn't even be bothered.
[3335] I'm thankful.
[3336] Fuck it.
[3337] We're not going to write it again.
[3338] Thank you for not pasting.
[3339] I always feel like they did that for you.
[3340] Thank you.
[3341] That shit, that guy's gonna have to read that whole fucking thing again.
[3342] My throat actually hurts after we do these.
[3343] I'm starting to worry.
[3344] I got a little pain down here that sometimes doesn't go right.
[3345] Well, maybe, you know, back off on it some.
[3346] You don't have to, you know, do it.
[3347] Don't die.
[3348] Do what's comfortable.
[3349] Paul's Shooting Adventure.
[3350] Ah, Paul!
[3351] From Agetech Incorporated.
[3352] Both my favorite developer, publisher, and game character.
[3353] Paul.
[3354] One player rated E for everyone.
[3355] Mild cartoon violence.
[3356] 200 Nintendo DSi points.
[3357] Super Baby Paul.
[3358] The ultimate pacifier stars in this classic side -scrolling shooter.
[3359] Classic.
[3360] Really?
[3361] Super Baby Paul.
[3362] Super Baby Paul.
[3363] The ultimate pacifier.
[3364] The ultimate pacifier.
[3365] The ultimate motherfucking...
[3366] So wait, is he a baby or is he a pacifier?
[3367] He's Super Baby Paul.
[3368] The ultimate pacifier.
[3369] He pacifies.
[3370] So do other babies suck on him?
[3371] Wait, hold on.
[3372] Whoa.
[3373] Rated E for everyone, mild cartoon violence.
[3374] Okay, so not that.
[3375] The player controls Paul, the son of a superhero family who was born with innate superpowers.
[3376] Paul has the ability to take flight and attack with powerful projectile energy.
[3377] But most importantly, and unique to Paul, is that he's gifted with the ability to take the form and harness the weaponry from fallen enemies.
[3378] Paul is summoned to take on an alien invasion force bent on conquering Earth's oceans.
[3379] Get bent.
[3380] What?
[3381] So this became about eco -terror.
[3382] It's up to Paul to use both his own powers and the weapons obtained from the aliens to fight back and protect Earth's most vital resource.
[3383] His action -packed adventure goes from the seas to the stars themselves.
[3384] Let's hope Paul can save our oceans before nap time.
[3385] Paul's shooting adventure.
[3386] That's the name of that game.
[3387] That's the name of that game.
[3388] I could think of...
[3389] We need a character page for Super Baby Paul.
[3390] With an alias of the ultimate pacifier.
[3391] Wait, wait, wait, wait.
[3392] Is that his title name?
[3393] All caps.
[3394] Super Baby Paul.
[3395] Okay.
[3396] It's not like Super Mario Brothers.
[3397] Okay, but Super Baby Paul.
[3398] So it's not just like, he is Paul.
[3399] That is also very good at being a baby.
[3400] Super Baby Paul.
[3401] Maybe his name is Baby Paul because Super is the start of the sentence.
[3402] Paul is the worst name for a baby ever, by the way.
[3403] That's not evocative of, oh, this is a baby.
[3404] It's biblical.
[3405] Paul.
[3406] Paul.
[3407] I don't know.
[3408] Paul is like an accountant.
[3409] You know, I could see.
[3410] Okay, Super Baby Pauly.
[3411] Then it's just like, Rock, I gotta save the oceans, bro.
[3412] I gotta watch.
[3413] That's fine.
[3414] Okay.
[3415] I would play that game.
[3416] So I would think more of a, Buddy, we gotta save the oceans.
[3417] Yeah, that's it.
[3418] I don't.
[3419] That's my Paul.
[3420] Paul's Shooting Adventure, Super Baby Paul.
[3421] The ultimate pacifier.
[3422] It's hilarious.
[3423] Peg Solitaire from Circle Entertainment.
[3424] One to two players.
[3425] Rated E for everyone, 500 Nintendo DSi points.
[3426] That's 300 points more than Paul's Shooting Adventure.
[3427] That's how you know it's good.
[3428] That's the quality.
[3429] A classic thinking game.
[3430] Peg Solitaire is a board game for solo players.
[3431] Where you have to move pegs strategically on a cross -shaped board with 33 holes.
[3432] Some boards use marbles that sit in shallow indentations.
[3433] In the United Kingdom, this game is known as Solitaire.
[3434] And the card games are called Patience.
[3435] The game has five levels with 41 stages to allow players to learn the gameplay techniques step by step.
[3436] Known as Hellman's, East of the Rockies.
[3437] Really go for a Hydrox right about now.
[3438] Haberdine.
[3439] Virtual console.
[3440] Yeah.
[3441] Street Slam!
[3442] For the Neo Geo from D4 Enterprise, one of two players, E. For everyone.
[3443] 900 wee points.
[3444] This three -on -three street basketball game was released in 1994.
[3445] Players choose from 10 teams vying for the position of the strongest street basketball team in America.
[3446] The excitement of this game comes from the players' ability to enjoy an exhilarating game of street basketball.
[3447] Okay, so the game's exciting because the players can enjoy it.
[3448] Wait, the players that are in the game or you, the player?
[3449] They don't really indicate.
[3450] Street basketball.
[3451] They don't really indicate.
[3452] In addition to pulling off fancy slam dunks, players can enjoy the thrill of basketball with simple controls that allow them to make passes to players in midair to throw down a slam dunk or dunk when rebounding the ball.
[3453] I'll tell you my favorite part about basketball.
[3454] I just went to a basketball game last week.
[3455] My favorite part?
[3456] The fanciness.
[3457] I like it when it's fancy.
[3458] Yeah, I like a good fancy basketball game.
[3459] You know, like my mustard or my ketchup.
[3460] I like it fancy.
[3461] Was it like mid -court or were you like, you know, under like home team, like warrior section?
[3462] We were kind of lower level, kind of behind one of the hoops.
[3463] Oh, in the fancy seats.
[3464] Yeah.
[3465] Right.
[3466] Or fancy ball.
[3467] With your fancy viewing glasses.
[3468] Yes, yes.
[3469] Additionally, I had my little opera glasses that I was wearing.
[3470] My white gloves.
[3471] Additionally, if players charge up their gauges, they'll be able to make an earth -shattering super shot that can break any defense.
[3472] This game successfully combines adherence to the basics of basketball.
[3473] With some outrageous special moves.
[3474] They nailed it.
[3475] They nailed it.
[3476] It's both description and review.
[3477] We don't even have to touch that one.
[3478] Apparently it's awesome.
[3479] I don't know.
[3480] Actually, wait.
[3481] It's Street Slam.
[3482] Not a good game.
[3483] Oh, okay.
[3484] But they successfully combined something, something.
[3485] Not a Neo Geo classic.
[3486] Something, something.
[3487] Not in my book, anyway.
[3488] They successfully combined some shit.
[3489] All right.
[3490] Let's take it to emails.
[3491] What do you guys say?
[3492] I say emails.
[3493] Fantastic.
[3494] Bombcast at giantbomb .com is the email address.
[3495] So last week we had some puzzlers.
[3496] We had some head scratches.
[3497] Whoa, a puzzler?
[3498] Is this car talk?
[3499] We had...
[3500] What?
[3501] What?
[3502] I don't know what that reference means.
[3503] So we had some people writing in, describing some games that they could not recall the names of.
[3504] Oh, yeah.
[3505] We got one, and we kind of couldn't figure out a couple of the other ones.
[3506] Were we right on that other one?
[3507] Which other one?
[3508] The one where we got one?
[3509] Was that a verified success?
[3510] No, but that was totally it.
[3511] Okay.
[3512] No one said, yes, that's it exactly, but yes, I know.
[3513] Good.
[3514] Torrente.
[3515] Torrente.
[3516] Torrente is the name of the first -person shooter with the asshole, bald, fat Spanish cop.
[3517] That's where I go to download.
[3518] Pirated episodes of Sabado Gigante also.
[3519] It's actually Spain Spanish, I believe.
[3520] You're Spain Spanish.
[3521] Continental.
[3522] Not Mexican.
[3523] Series of films or TV shows.
[3524] My favorite Torrente sites.
[3525] There is a Torrente license that they had to acquire to make this game.
[3526] Adding a layer to its sucky assiness.
[3527] It's like Crash Time.
[3528] Oh, God.
[3529] Crash Time.
[3530] Is that series still going?
[3531] Yeah.
[3532] Get that in here.
[3533] Connect.
[3534] I bought like Crash Time 2 and 3 on Steam, and then we never did anything with them.
[3535] As much as I do hate myself, I don't hate myself that much.
[3536] All right, so we have three.
[3537] So there was the helicopter game in caves last week that we couldn't figure out.
[3538] Three different suggestions from listeners on what it might be.
[3539] This is great.
[3540] I don't have the original email, so I can't reread that, unfortunately.
[3541] It was like shooting stuff to unlock water and fill the cave.
[3542] Water would flood the cave.
[3543] Right, okay.
[3544] Brian Wade suggests that it's a game called Blood Money.
[3545] Does that ring a bell to the C64 kids?
[3546] No, no, no. All right.
[3547] Let's see here.
[3548] Twerpsalot suggests that it is Buried Bricks, but he says that's an 800XL game, so that's not even the right platform.
[3549] Well, I'm a big winner.
[3550] Mike Hansen suggests that it is a little game called Fort Apocalypse.
[3551] Oh.
[3552] You know, it might actually totally.
[3553] Of the bunch, he seemed the most confident.
[3554] Like, I was screaming at my thing saying, oh, it's totally Fort Apocalypse.
[3555] I don't know that one, but yeah.
[3556] Boot it up, baby.
[3557] All right.
[3558] Let me get my C64 out.
[3559] Load colon Fort Apocalypse colon comma eight comma one.
[3560] I used to type in comma 8, comma 8.
[3561] Really?
[3562] It still works.
[3563] Wow.
[3564] Faster.
[3565] I don't know what it is.
[3566] Comma 8 is just the tape drive or something?
[3567] No, no. You didn't put the 8 on it at all for the tape drive, I think.
[3568] Or you want a 4?
[3569] It's comma 4.
[3570] List.
[3571] Some games would only run if you put the comma 1 on there.
[3572] I think it would specify, like it would force a binary load.
[3573] Isolode.
[3574] Load, quote.
[3575] Asterix quote.
[3576] Yeah.
[3577] And then something, something.
[3578] Or just list.
[3579] Run.
[3580] Run stop.
[3581] Not list.
[3582] Catalog.
[3583] No, that's Apple II was catalog.
[3584] Yeah, I think it was list.
[3585] You'd have to load dollar sign.
[3586] Yes.
[3587] Comma eight to get the directory of the drive.
[3588] Oh, man. I miss it.
[3589] Moving the fuck on.
[3590] Yeah, yeah.
[3591] I had a fast load cartridge.
[3592] So you just had to kind of like hit two buttons.
[3593] This is what listening to you talk about StarCraft II feels like.
[3594] Just so you know.
[3595] And eventually I got to the point where I was typing L shift O. Because that was the shortcut for load.
[3596] So you don't have to type all of load.
[3597] What?
[3598] Yeah.
[3599] Fancy.
[3600] You played a lot of StarCraft 2 last week.
[3601] In front of people.
[3602] A little bit.
[3603] Fair amount.
[3604] Decent amount.
[3605] You imagine.
[3606] Next email comes in from Vlad Tiberius Tarlungenu.
[3607] Lord?
[3608] Lord Vlad?
[3609] Not, not.
[3610] Guess my liege.
[3611] His first name is the hyphenated.
[3612] It's Vlad Tiberius.
[3613] If that is your real name.
[3614] Van Glorious.
[3615] So he's got, much like these other emails, he's got a stumper for us.
[3616] He's got another melon pickler.
[3617] How did we end up down this road?
[3618] We answer these questions and then more people say, hey, I have a game I can't remember.
[3619] Help me out.
[3620] Gerken Scrabbler.
[3621] I don't like emails anymore.
[3622] You never liked emails.
[3623] I did.
[3624] You just like saying emails.
[3625] I did like them.
[3626] Hi, guys.
[3627] Hi, guys.
[3628] I recently had a flashback to my childhood, early 80s, of me playing an arcade game in which you controlled a submarine, mostly the front of it from a top -down view, strafing from left to right while shooting torpedoes at several types of ships and a plane.
[3629] Once in a while, you only had two buttons, the torpedo shooting button and the anti -air missile shooting button.
[3630] During the game, the ships traveled and intersected with each other from left to right several times, and each type of ship had a point value assigned to it.
[3631] it sometimes an electronic one character passed across the screen and as an enemy submarine sail and periscope that you could shoot also as a bonus you had to uh Hit a faster ship, a speedboat for 200 points, while the anti -bonus was avoiding to shoot a red cross ship minus 300 points.
[3632] Also, as I said once in a while, a plane flew over your ship, dropping bombs that you had to avoid while trying to align yourself to shoot down the plane.
[3633] Also, the enemy ships left slow, leaving mines for you to avoid or even shoot at.
[3634] Basically played like Space Invaders or Galaga, but it was faster and more challenging.
[3635] And a submarine.
[3636] So is it like there was a periscope that was part of the arcade cabinet?
[3637] Is it like that?
[3638] Is it an arcade game, did he say?
[3639] He did say it was an arcade game.
[3640] Like a first -person view of the tubes, or are you at the bottom of the screen?
[3641] It sounds like you're at the bottom of the screen.
[3642] I was going to say Seawolf, but that's not Seawolf.
[3643] No, Seawolf.
[3644] Yeah, if it had the big periscope -y thing, that's an easy find.
[3645] The plane strafing.
[3646] I don't know.
[3647] Sub hunt.
[3648] I don't know.
[3649] 680 attacks.
[3650] If it was a Gradius style shooter, it would be in the hunt, but that's not it.
[3651] No, no. It sounds like you were bottom of the screen.
[3652] It'd be way older than in the hunt.
[3653] It sounds like you are bottom of the screen, like fixed screen.
[3654] Yeah.
[3655] Silent service.
[3656] It's real old.
[3657] Yeah.
[3658] Because they didn't make games like that for too much longer out of that phase.
[3659] You know, it's kind of.
[3660] If you think you know.
[3661] Throw Vlad Tiberius into the subject line.
[3662] Send us an email at bombcast at giantbomb .com.
[3663] Say it in the comments, too.
[3664] And we'll see if we can figure it out.
[3665] Yeah, yeah.
[3666] If you guys can grind it out in the comments, do it there.
[3667] Or however you want to do it, do it.
[3668] We don't know.
[3669] Text Vlad Tiberius.
[3670] I'm confused by there being two different types of shots for a game in which you're at the bottom of the screen.
[3671] That's really confusing to me. Maybe it's because I was picturing Seawolf, like the periscope perspective the whole time you were talking about.
[3672] Yeah, I guess if you're at the bottom of the screen, it's weird because you think like, okay, if I'm doing the sideways ones for other, like torpedoes for other ships, but then you're going surface to air for the planes above you.
[3673] I don't know.
[3674] Sounds weird.
[3675] So I got this email from several people.
[3676] I'm going to credit this one to Arcity from the boards.
[3677] about the pronunciation of Caesar or Kesar in Fallout New Vegas.
[3678] Apparently the Kesar pronunciation is the classic traditional Latin pronunciation of that name.
[3679] Yeah, C's are hard K sounds.
[3680] So, and I guess in the game it's mentioned that Kesar actually speaks proper Latin.
[3681] So that's why his dudes are like that.
[3682] Yeah, but it's not consistent.
[3683] Like some of his dudes are not like that.
[3684] Well, there is debate.
[3685] There is debate because Latin being a dead language.
[3686] Who knows?
[3687] Not a whole lot of agreement in academia about how everything is pronounced.
[3688] Especially after a nuclear holocaust.
[3689] Yeah, sure.
[3690] That probably gets even dicey.
[3691] Although that is a learned bunch of mercenaries and wastelanders.
[3692] No, Kaisar is a learned dude.
[3693] Okay.
[3694] The rest of his...
[3695] His leg is legion, not necessarily.
[3696] Okay, interesting.
[3697] Next email comes from John Hudson in Canfield, Ohio.
[3698] Hey, Bomb Squad.
[3699] I noticed you didn't mention during your Fable 3 discussion on last week's Bombcast any possible applications for Kinect support in the game, so I was wondering if any of you fine gentlemen noticed any.
[3700] There is none.
[3701] No, but they are adding it, right?
[3702] They said, what could you do?
[3703] What would lend itself to being?
[3704] Yeah.
[3705] Expressions.
[3706] Yeah, I guess.
[3707] Jobs.
[3708] Pull up a fucking mini -map.
[3709] Yeah, wave your fucking arms frankly at the TV screen and scream map over and over and maybe they'll show you the map.
[3710] Strawberry candy.
[3711] I think it's going to be the expressions.
[3712] I think you'll do things for that.
[3713] I don't think that doesn't sound good.
[3714] But look at all the button presses, too.
[3715] It's almost like they have been leading towards Kinect since Fable 2, where you have to hold the A button for everything.
[3716] It does all the eye toy, like I'm waving in front of the thing.
[3717] Totally.
[3718] It's like, so hold the cursor over the thing for 20 seconds.
[3719] I shouldn't say this for sure, but I would not be at all surprised if that never makes it in.
[3720] Just don't do the Kinect support.
[3721] Yeah, we'll see.
[3722] Steve from Bristol in the UK.
[3723] Hi, Bombcast.
[3724] Question of burning importance for you.
[3725] Given their respective potential, which has been the greater disappointment?
[3726] 360's Game Room or the DSi Store?
[3727] Probably DSiWare to me. Yeah, DSiWare, I think, had a lot more potential.
[3728] Yeah, they could have done a lot more with it.
[3729] If they ever released...
[3730] Game Room was always just legalized emulation.
[3731] I don't know.
[3732] Well, it seems like with the 3DS store that they're going to get.
[3733] Game Boy stuff.
[3734] Yeah, with having the emulated stuff in there.
[3735] They're getting to what that store should have been when they first launched it.
[3736] Or a lot more room for disappointment.
[3737] Of like pretty much setting up the game room of like, yeah, we'll have all this stuff in there.
[3738] And then what the fuck are they releasing?
[3739] This is all crap.
[3740] Oh, just release the good games.
[3741] It's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 for the Game Boy.
[3742] Original Game Boy.
[3743] They're going to put Dreamcast games on that.
[3744] What a kick -ass game.
[3745] I have that.
[3746] Yeah, what a great game.
[3747] It's not bad.
[3748] Come on.
[3749] It's all right.
[3750] Come on.
[3751] Run to the side.
[3752] Fight dudes.
[3753] If you want to tell me you think it's like marginally better than the NES game, I think it's remarkably better than the NES game.
[3754] The NES game is.
[3755] Terrible.
[3756] The NES game left scars.
[3757] See, I agree with you.
[3758] I agree with you there.
[3759] NES game?
[3760] Yeah.
[3761] Yeah, that was bad.
[3762] It was hardcore.
[3763] Battles are going to explode, boy.
[3764] This was not as, I guess, ambitious as that game was.
[3765] This was a simple side -scrolling platformer.
[3766] Yeah, so it was a little bit better, but it still was pretty suck -ass.
[3767] The sprites look good.
[3768] Yeah, but the way they moved and the combat, all the weapon stuff was god -awful.
[3769] Oh.
[3770] I was like eight.
[3771] So what do you know?
[3772] Just like, no. What do you know from games?
[3773] I was in high school.
[3774] All right.
[3775] That answers that question.
[3776] That's going to do it for emails.
[3777] Thanks, everyone, who wrote in.
[3778] I want to give a shout out here to Jeff Kimball for creating the giant bomb form thread topic generator.
[3779] I think it was funny.
[3780] Which is awesome.
[3781] But, I mean, gb .jeffkimble, G -E -O -F -F -K -I -M -B -A -L -L .com slash thread .html.
[3782] Make up your own.
[3783] What does that do?
[3784] You haven't seen it?
[3785] No. Oh, it's fucking phenomenal that someone has taken the process out of it.
[3786] Hey, read one.
[3787] Here, I'll make one for you.
[3788] Yeah, make a thread.
[3789] Here's a thread topic.
[3790] Best character introduced in a sequel this generation.
[3791] Let me make another one.
[3792] Most controversial collection quests introduced in a sequel.
[3793] Let's do another one.

[3810] There was no face and neck stabbing in the 8 -bit era.
[3811] What a cosplay.
[3812] It's awesome and kind of a bummer.
[3813] Because it's so accurate.
[3814] I found it to be a huge bummer.
[3815] I love it.
[3816] I love it to death.
[3817] I love it to death.
[3818] You know what?
[3819] There's only so many forum threads you can make about video games.
[3820] Turns out.
[3821] Yeah, I guess you're right.
[3822] That's great.
[3823] When do we give props to I'm calling it the game?
[3824] Are we waiting until it gets out of beta?
[3825] That was interesting.
[3826] I don't know.
[3827] Is that working?
[3828] I heard about it.
[3829] No. So I saw someone post about it and I thought it was something that like was happening in these walls.
[3830] And I was like, what the fuck is going on?
[3831] I'm going to leave town for like – holy shit.
[3832] It's a meta meta game.
[3833] Somebody has made a – Use your points, right?
[3834] You have to use your Quest XP on the site as currency on this other site to bet on what we are going to give games review score -wise.
[3835] I think that's an idea that we have, not necessarily with the Quest XP stuff.
[3836] I know we talked about having some kind of official bet on review score stuff, and I feel like I shot it down every time because it would be too open to...
[3837] Yeah, like people saying that we were bending our scores.
[3838] I didn't want anything to get in the way of the sacrosanctness of review scores.
[3839] I'm running this leaderboard here.
[3840] So I basically refused to officially endorse said product for that reason.
[3841] I'm all about violating sanctity here.
[3842] That's right.
[3843] I just can't wait to bet.
[3844] All right, fine.
[3845] I'm going to bet all mine on.
[3846] I can't wait to bet on what I'm going to give a game.
[3847] See, I'm going to take that shit.
[3848] See, I'm going to make you all go fucking bankrupt by lying about what I'm going to get black off.
[3849] I was just going to say, now use the podcast to talk shit and be like, you know, Force Unleashed fucking suck.
[3850] Five stars.
[3851] Then we're going to go in there and change the scores.
[3852] I am thrilled.
[3853] This doesn't read like a – I'm thrilled to know that that exists, but I will – yeah, I will never look at that.
[3854] No, it's funny.
[3855] I just like that people are – yeah, it's cool.
[3856] Poke fun.
[3857] It's still video games and it's still goofy shit and scores have their place.
[3858] The fact that we are not officially involved in it makes the idea totally valid.
[3859] It makes it – you guys have your fun.
[3860] Enjoy it.
[3861] Enjoy your guessing games.
[3862] For sure.
[3863] Yeah, once again, that's it for emails.
[3864] Bombcast at giantbomb .com is the address.
[3865] Folks, we are out of time.
[3866] We have made these Halloween figurines stand in as obscene a position as we possibly can.
[3867] It's true.
[3868] Pumpkinhead man is humping the ghost man. He wants to go eat some hot dogs, huh?
[3869] Yes.
[3870] I'm with you.
[3871] Go re -up on some hot dogs.
[3872] Thanks for listening.
[3873] We'll be back next Tuesday with another edition of the Giant Bombcast.
