[1] It's Friday, July 14th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] Disney CEO Bob Iger says he's open to the idea of selling off the media company's traditional TV assets.
[3] Speaking with CNBC Thursday, Iger said that after returning to the helmet Disney, he, quote, realized the company is facing a lot of challenges, some of them self -inflicted.
[4] The company's linear TV business, which includes ESPN and other cable, TV channels as well as broadcast station ABC are being assessed.
[5] While Iger signaled his company plans to hold on to ESPN, other TV assets, quote, may not be core to Disney.
[6] Our cost structure reflects the economic realities of the business, and that includes disruption.
[7] Transformative work is dealing with businesses that are no -growth businesses and what to do about them, and particularly the linear business, which we are expansive in our thinking about, and we're going to look expansive about opportunities there because clearly it's a business that is going to continue to struggle.
[8] Disney has reportedly been struggling on a number of fronts, including park attendants.
[9] Actor Kevin Spacey appeared to get choked up during his court testimony today, as he recalled the intimate friendship he shared with a man who is now accusing the actor of violently groping him.
[10] Spacey claims he was crushed when he learned of the allegations.
[11] Four men have now accused the two -time Oscar winner of sexually assaulting them between 2001 and 2013, describing disturbing encounters that escalated from unwanted touching to aggravated crotch -grabbing.
[12] Savvy Costco shoppers are speculating that the wholesale superstore will soon stop stocking Bud Light after noting the quote, star of death asterisk on the product label as well as a price drop on the beer.
[13] According to consumer reports, an asterisk in the upper right -hand corner of a sign for an item does in fact indicate that the product won't be reordered once it sells out.
[14] A 22 -year -old Florida man captured a 19 -foot Burmese python near Naples on Monday night.
[15] The invasive reptile specimen was the largest ever caught in the region, weighing 125 pounds.
[16] The Florida Python Challenge is an officially sanctioned state program running for two weeks in August, where residents can hunt pythons for a chance to win cash.
[17] The program aims to protect the fragile Everglades ecosystem, which is increasingly threatened by giant pythons.
[18] Prior to the catch, the largest Burmese python caught in Florida was in October of 2020, 35 miles west of Miami, and measured 18 feet and 9 inches.
