Morning Wire XX
[0] I'm Daily Wire, editor -in -chief John Bickley, with Georgia Howe.
[1] It's Tuesday, October 24th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] Jenna Ellis, an attorney who represented former President Donald Trump after the 2020 election, pled guilty today on charges regarding alleged efforts to overturn election results in Georgia.
[3] The charges are part of Fulton County's efforts to prove that the former president and 17 others violated the state's anti -racketeering law.
[4] Ellis told the judge today that she knew.
[5] never would have represented Trump if she knew then what she knows now.
[6] I look back on this whole experience with deep remorse.
[7] For those failures of mine, Your Honor, I have taken responsibility already before the Colorado Bar who censured me, and I now take responsibility before this court and apologize to the people of Georgia.
[8] Ellis pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and abetting false statements and was sentenced to five years probation.
[9] She must also pay $5 ,000 in restitution, write a letter apologizing to the state and testify against the remaining defendants.
[10] She's now the third of Trump's former attorneys to plead guilty in the case.
[11] Minnesota Congressman Tom Emmer, the House's current majority whip, won the GOP nomination for House Speaker today, beating out six other candidates in a closely contested battle after five rounds of voting.
[12] Now, Emmer has to secure some 217 votes to win the job.
[13] That's a task that evaded Jim Jordan and Steve Scalise.
[14] The current administration is preparing for the scenario that hundreds of thousands of Americans currently in the Middle East will require evacuation if the conflict expands beyond Gaza.
[15] Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has more.
[16] According to several U .S. officials, Americans living in Israel and Lebanon are of particular concern, but they also stress that an operation like that is considered to be a last resort scenario.
[17] The Biden administration has turned much of its focus toward preventing escalation and the potential plans for relocation of a large number of people.
[18] This all follows word that Israel will soon begin a widespread ground invasion against Hamas after the horrific cross -border attack on October 7th.
[19] During the attack, roughly 600 ,000 U .S. citizens were in Israel, and around 86 ,000 were believed to be in neighboring Lebanon.
[20] French President Emmanuel Macron called for an international coalition to join forces against Hamas, saying that the fight against the Islamic terrorists should be without mercy.
[21] Macron also called on countries fighting ISIS in Syria and Iraq to turn their aim toward Hamas.
[22] Macron made the remarks during a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu this morning.
[23] I just reminded my people what we discussed about, fight against terrorism, humanitarian action, rules to be respected, but as well, political process.
[24] And obviously, I warned against an escalation, and I warned as Ebola and some other regimes not to be part of what's happening.
[25] Meanwhile, Israel called for the complete and total destruction of the terrorist group at the United Nations.
[26] Here's Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eli Cohen, who called Hamas the new Nazis.
[27] I hear the call for proportionality.
[28] I hear the calls for a ceasefire.
[29] Tell me, what is a proportionate response for killing of babies?
[30] For rape women and burn them.
[31] for beheading of a child, how you can agree to a ceasefire with someone who's vote to kill and destroy your own existence?
[32] How?
[33] A new Daily Wire investigation revealed that nearly 70 % of all inmates released by Kentucky's Democratic governor through commutations during the pandemic went on to reoffend.
[34] Here with more as Daily Wire investigative reporter, Spencer Lindquist.
[35] The report was produced by Kentucky's Department of Information and Technology Services.
[36] It found that out of the 1 ,702 individuals whose sentences were commuted by Governor Andy Bashir in 2020, a majority of them, 882, went on to commit felonies.
[37] Some of those included violent felonies like assault and homicide.
[38] An additional 252 committed misdemeanors, leaving just over 500 who committed no crimes after release.
[39] Bashir will face Kentucky's Republican Attorney General Daniel Cameron in his re -election.
[40] Cameron has worked to make these commutation.
[41] a theme of the election battle.
[42] Until a couple of days ago, I was saying only a third of those had recommitted felony offenses.
[43] Turns out I was wrong.
[44] It's more than 50 % have recommitted felony offenses, making our communities less safe and our law enforcement's job more difficult.
[45] Workers at yet another auto plant are on strike, this time in Texas.
[46] 5 ,000 auto worker union members walked off the job Tuesday at General Motors Arlington Assembly.
[47] plant.
[48] That brings the total number of striking UAW members to more than 45 ,000 across the auto industry's big three companies.
[49] In a recent quarterly update, GM reported the protest has cost the company nearly 800 million in lost production.
[50] The strike has now been going on for 40 days.
[51] And game seven of the MLB's National League Championship series is tonight as the Philadelphia Phillies and Arizona Diamondbacks battle it out to represent the National League in the World Series.
[52] Whoever wins will face the Texas Rangers who knocked off the Astros in game seven of the American League Championship Series Monday night.
[53] This will be the first time in seven years that the World Series will feature neither the Los Angeles Dodgers or the Houston Astros.
