[1] It's Thursday, November 10th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
[2] The Consumer Price Index went up 7 .7 % between October of last year and this year, revealing that inflation may be slowing down.
[3] Energy, food, and housing costs are still up as winter months' approach.
[4] According to E .J. Antony of the Heritage Foundation, inflation has effectively cost families $7 ,400 in income under the Biden administration.
[5] The president stated this week that he can't definitively say he will be able to curb rising prices.
[6] I can't guarantee that we're going to be able to get rid of inflation, but I do think we can.
[7] Votes are still being counted in Arizona and Nevada as the country waits to find out which party will control the Senate.
[8] Right now, Democrat incumbent Mark Kelly of Arizona currently leads GOP Challenger Blake Masters.
[9] While in Nevada, Republican candidate Adam Lacksalt leads incumbent, Senator Catherine Cortez Mastow.
[10] Should those races split, the GOP would have 50 seats in the Senate, while the Democrats would have 49, meaning that all eyes would be on Georgia's runoff election between Democrat Raphael Warnock and Republican Herschel Walker.
[11] Early voting begins two days after Thanksgiving, and in -person election day is December 6th.
[12] Maryland's Democratic Governor -elect Wes Moore, famed author of five books, including the popular memoir, The Other Westmore, One Name, Two Fates, reflected this week.
[13] on what it meant to be the old -line state's first black governor, noting the state's complicated historical legacy.
[14] I know the history of my state.
[15] You know, this is a state that is, you know, a place, the birthplace, and the home place of Frederick Douglass and Thurgood Marshall and Harriet Tubman.
[16] But it's also the birthplace of redlining.
[17] It's also the birthplace as some of the most historically discriminatory policies and most creative discriminatory policies.
[18] that we've seen in this country.
[19] CNN exit poll revealed that 68 % of single unmarried women voted for Democrats during the midterm elections.
[20] The CDC announced there is a Listeria outbreak affecting at least six states that led to 16 infections and one death connected to deli cheese and meats.
[21] The states involved were New York, Maryland, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Illinois, and California from April of last year to this September.
[22] Facebook's parent company, Meta, said it would fire over 11 ,000.
[23] employees, 13 % of its workforce.
[24] The social media pioneer Mark Zuckerberg addressed workers via video chat this week as shown in a leaked video of the announcement.
[25] I want to say, you know, up front, that I take full responsibility for this decision.
[26] You know, I'm the founder and CEO.
[27] I'm responsible for the health of our company, for our direction, and for deciding how we execute that, including things like this, and this was ultimately my call.
[28] Tropical storm, Nicole, made landfall on the east coast of Florida Thursday as a Category 1 hurricane, but weakened as it moved across the Sunshine State, leaving 100 ,000 without power.
[29] Mid -morning Thursday, the storm was battering Tampa and is expected to travel up the west coast of Florida into Georgia throughout the next 24 hours.
[30] A new study by the Department of Veterans Affairs shows that antiviral drug Paxlovid reduced the risk of severe COVID and symptoms of long COVID by 25%.
[31] The study was done on 56 ,000 veterans.
[32] There is still concern that a small percent of Paxlovak users do experience a COVID rebound effect where they experience a resurgence of symptoms after a brief recovery.
[33] The rebound, though typically mild, is not uncommon.
[34] President Biden, Jill Biden, Dr. Fauci, as well as CDC director, Rochelle Walenski, have all reported experiencing the phenomenon.
